Reviews for Windlestrae Hotel & Leisure Club

Review 1:Guest information booklet was lacking in relevant information eg. breakfast times or check-out. It also had some typos. There were cobwebs in the bedroom. Looked like windows had not been opened in some time. Some fabrics and furnishings have seen better days and need replaced. The bathroom was functional but not modern.

Review 2:Very large and comfortable room, we enjoyed the extra space. Suitable for us with infant, with traditional wooden cot supplied. Tasty meal and good service enjoyed in Jock's Bar. Helpful and friendly staff on front desk. Wide choice for satisfying breakfast.

Review 3:We were put in the sister hotel across the road from windlestrae as it was closed so my review is on the Green hotel. Just off motorway services. Warm comfortable rooms and beds huge. Staff helpful. Great breakfast for reasonable price. Could use the spa at the windlestrae if you wanted.

Review 4:fire alarms!! need to get checked out and management needs to know proper roll call as was a shambles last time we were there!!

Review 5:lovely place and comfortable to stay

Review 6:Nothing. We were moved to the green as they were aware of a party being in for the evening and didn't want to risk us being disrupted. Swimming pool was closed but these things happen and rest of the facility was great.

Review 7:Staff were lovely and very welcoming. The duty manager sent two glasses of prosecco to our room as it was my partners birthday. Spa facility is great dispite the swimming pool being closed due to tempreture. Bar/restaurant were also very good.

Review 8:Steam room in need of refurbishment. But still usable.

Review 9:There was a christmas party night on in this hotel so they suggested that we move to the sister hotel, Green Hotel, which we did.

Review 10:When we arrived we were told the hotel was closing down the following night. Since we had booked in for two nights we were annoyed we had not been told. The hotel blamed booking.com

Review 11:When we arrived we were told the hotel was closing down the following night. Since we had booked in for two nights we were annoyed we had not been told. The hotel blamed booking.com

Review 12:Hotel was cold, no details of room service, no toiletries in bedroom, very limited snacks in the bar.

Review 13:Comfortable bed, good breakfast, good location close to motorway.

Review 14:Bar not open until 4pm. Room windows badly needed cleaned. Pool not working whilst there.

Review 15:Great cooked breakfast made with quality products. Staff happy to help.

Review 16:Where do i start? We were promised a nice quiet room but were put in a room above a conference. We were awakened Sunday night at midnight by noisy staff moving furniture. When i went down and asked them to stop they refused. The decor and the rooms are very dated. It's a shame because it could be a nice hotel and 99% of the staff were nice. We went there for a relaxing break to help my wife get over her cancer treatment but came home tired and angry. I doubt i'd go back there to be honest.

Review 17:The food, bar staff and resturaunt staff were good.

Review 18:Without any consultation with us, we were transferred to the Green Hotel. Review and scores are for the Green Hotel. Wi-Fi wasn't working until the last 2 days (we stayed 8 days). Pool table was broken. Heating was hardly ever on - room was cold. Food was very disappointing - with a few exceptions.

Review 19:Apart from lack of heating, the room was excellent. Staff were courteous and friendly.

Review 20:The interior of the steam room was very shabby - paint peeling off walls.

Review 21:Staff were very welcoming. Food in the Italian restaurant was lovely. Pool was lovely.

Review 22:My husband and I found the beds a bit hard.

Review 23:Good location for the start of our holidays as it was close to Kinross fishery. Really enjoyed the Ceilidh on our last night , great fun and the caller was fab!!

Review 24:The bed in our room was very uncomfortable, it creaked and groaned all the time. It was also a small double, the space looked like it should have been a king size, and it also could have done with new pillows.

Review 25:The staff were excellent, food was very good. The locacation for us was just right.

Review 26:Not much,

Review 27:Excellent staff, so helpful nothing to much trouble. Very well looked after for my wife 50th birthday stay last weekend, Bubbly at the table as a gift along with a card Excellent amenities, pool, steam room, sauna etc etc. Great food in the restaurant and a lovely breakfast. Thank you.

Review 28:Bed uncomfortable as two pushed together. Breakfast staff unfriendly , didn't explain anything te breakfast or ask what drink we'd like. No milk for cereal - again had to ask. Actual breakfast very nice. Customer care average

Review 29:Golf course, receptionist, Jocks Bar, pool and Gym

Review 30:Easy access to M90, good location for places of interest. The staff were very welcoming and helpful and it was a good place to stay with a dog. WIll stay there again the next time we visit Scotland.

Review 31:Beds not very comfortable. The hotel just looked very "tired" in need of an over all upgrade.

Review 32:The bedroom and bathroom had obviously been renovated fairly recently.bed

Review 33:just a stop over going south so not able to take advantage of all the facilities. looked good though.

Review 34:very good receptionist heather, helpful and gave us a great welcome very friendly

Review 35:1) Sign on entrance door directing us to call another hotel on arrival. 2) Restaurant & Bar closed on evening of stay - advised we should use facilities at another hotel with no explanation. 3) No lift or offer of assistance with stairs when booking in with heavy luggage. 4) Various issues with lights not working (both in room and external safety lamps). Narrowly avoided being hit by departing vehicle when walking along unlit entrance road to hotel (lighting in place but not functioning). Plumbing problem with intermittent water flow. 5) No hairdryer in one room despite being included in inventory. Shower curtain old and smelly. 6) Musty/stale unpleasant aroma throughout hotel corridors.....

Review 36:Good breakfast apart from the fact that fish option was (perhaps unsurprisingly) not available which was disappointing.

Review 37:Upgraded bedroom as it was my partners birthday, then delivered glasses of Prosecco to the room. Pool attendant friendly and very helpful. Reception staff were excellent

Review 38:I was on a bicycle, and the hotel wanted me to park it 5 minutes away in another location in a shared storage using a combination lock.

Review 39:The staff have nailed their customer service, thy make you feel very welcome. This is my third stay here, I always enjoy iy.

Review 40:The quality of the breakfast was really poor. No healthy choices were offered on the buffet, no fresh fruit, no fresh dairy products, everything was sweetened. The choice of cooked breafast was very limited and only one type of bread was on offer. Both breakfast service and lounge bar suffer from some surly and untrained staff. Saying that, bartender Ed is a star.

Review 41:The leisure centre with swimming pool.

Review 42:Had a treatment paid for me by family but did not get what paid for initially as leaflet out of date. Son explained this to them and they then gave rest of treatment next day.

Review 43:Good breakfasts. Friendly staff.

Review 44:Great location, friendly staff, room very clean with king size bed, shower was excellent with plenty of hot water and breakfast was lovely can't wait to return (hopefully soon).

Review 45:The bed was two singles pushed together and these were not connected very well so hence there was a ridge running right down the bed so not the most comfortable experience ever. Very little by way of vegetarian options for dinner and the pasta was so bland I'd have preferred a bowl of pasta, herbs & butter.

Review 46:Staff were great and breakfast was too. The fish and veg were great for dinner.

Review 47:Restaurant needed a bit of updating, one girl seemed like she couldn't be bothered working there,so just pretended to be busy!

Review 48:Friendly staff, facilities were excellent and a great location, room was lovely

Review 49:Room wasn't very clean, staff unsure of information and was told spa had availability and went to book and no one there it was empty and closed each time I tryed to book! Breakfast was over cooked and not a lot of choice was very disappointed .

Review 50:The sauna, steam room and jacuzzi was fab, the jocks bar food was fantastic and the village was lovely. The night porter was the nicest and full of help

Review 51:Bed in room 332 needs replacing and upgrading to either a king size or split and link. Staff at breakfast some needed training as the experienced staff seemed to be doing everything........need hospitality training and efficiency to run a busy breakfast service.

Review 52:Warm welcome from reception staff and very good quality breakfast. Very good pool and good sized pool towels complimentary

Review 53:Woman travelling alone and put in a ground floor room opposite the car park. Picture window with no net curtains so had to peer out of the bathroom to see if it was all right to return to the room unobserved. No hotel information in the room. Breakfast was poor.

Review 54:Reception staff were friendly and helpful.

Review 55:The breakfasts were pretty basic with horrible coffee and very greasy options (not much healthy or fresh options), we didn't bother with it the second morning and went down to the Boat House for breakfast on the Loch - amazing!

Review 56:The pool and facilities are really good and the staff very friendly.

Review 57:Staff changed our room as shower hose was broken, also shower drain blocked. Consequently bathroom got Flooded. Also toilet seat broken. However staff very apologetic.

Review 58:Location, useful for visiting friends. Enjoyed the lovely pool. Also dinner and breakfast very nice.

Review 59:the mattress not to our comfort, not use to a sprung mattress, thou think ours had seen better days.

Review 60:the facilities where excellent as was the rooms décor, settings around building very nice.

Review 61:We were not impressed by the restaurant especially certain waiting staff. We had to ask 3 times for a pot of tea at breakfast and they only removed used plates when asked. They seemed more interested in setting tables than serving.

Review 62:The rooms were well fitted out. The fitness suit and pool/ jacuzzi/ steam room/ sauna were well run and quite quiet. It is a good central location to explore Scotland. Situated near the main route to Perth, Edinburghand within easy travel of St Andrews and Gleneagles

Review 63:My only criticism would be the lack of choice of fresh fruit at breakfast along with staff who were not particularly paying attention to levels of items needing replenished. Lots of guests were having to ask for bread for toast, more milk for cereal, butter etc. Also the 'Italian' restaurant is tired and in need of a refurb (this doubles as the breakfast room).

Review 64:Bedroom was modern and spacious and the swimming pool was fantastic for my 7-year-old. Staff at reception and in the bar were friendly and chatty.

Review 65:Needs updating in parts and the windows in the swimming pool area were in serious need of a professional clean.. That said I would visit again when next in the area..

Review 66:Very friendly reception staff especially Leigh.. Our room was comfortable and the leisure facilities were great.. Pool, sauna, steam room and jacuzzi all working and clean..

Review 67:The golfing group who were very noisy late on Friday night. There wasn't any hot water on Saturday night. It would have been useful to have somewhere to hang up damp towels in the bathroom - there are hooks on the door but not big enough.

Review 68:The swimming pool is lovely. The staff are very friendly and helpful.

Review 69:Nothing

Review 70:Friendly helpful staff. Good food. Quiet hotel at night not the usual banging doors to all hours. This I found unusual and the hotel was full.

Review 71:Lack of enthusiasm at spa. Didn't seem interested in my potential custom. Shabby chair at reception computer - Get a new one, guys!!

Review 72:Lovely hotel, great facilities, some fairly apathetic staff - some, not all. Made me wonder about working conditions

Review 73:The food was lovely and the young waitress in the restaurant was nice but the elderly lady was very odd and moans as she serves?!

Review 74:We stayed here as a short beak following out wedding. We were upgraded to a lovely king sized four poster bedroom and the staff left us a lovely card too!

Review 75:Parts of the hotel a bit tired. Small omissions in room - no towel rails or hooks, no soap dish or toilet roll holder. View from room was of leisure club roof and noisy ventilator which ran through the night.

Review 76:Location. Comfy bed.

Review 77:rooms are a bit dark decorated, reception lady (Susie ?)very friendly and helpful. barman very good and helpful, but service by the two young ladies in the bar is a disaster

Review 78:beautiful garden

Review 79:the constant noise (sounded like a heavy fan or something) in our room in the evening. It seemed to come up from the leisure centre but thankfully it cut out by 10 pm

Review 80:The overall relaxed atmosphere and the friendly staff

Review 81:Enjoyed use of the pool, spa, sauna, steam room. Loved the gym (take ear phones! You can plug them into the machines and watch TV whilst doing your exercises) Breakfast was amazing!!

Review 82:first room tv room did not work.2nd room toilet did not flush but was told by receiption staff there was a certain way you had to push it.nonsense!!!!!! key did not lock door waste of time complaining, when checked out girl said she did not know there was a problem with lock, boy joined conversation&said oh yes that lock dose not work. lots of issues needing fixed before letting these rooms.

Review 83:leisure facilities and breakfast good

Review 84:Basin had no plug - staff provided one, on request. Basin is also poorly designed - water from tap spills outside the basin due to the poor positioning of the tap. Décor was dull and dated.

Review 85:Comfortable bed and pleasant staff

Review 86:Was informed of the exact cost of having dogs in room til we checked out - thought £20 was a little expensive.

Review 87:Breakfast was fabulous - "proper" sausages :))

Review 88:Internet wifi was slow and had trouble browsing.

Review 89:Room was very large, clean, comfy bed and a nice view out of the window. I asked for a quieter room away from any functions and was happy with what was given.

Review 90:Receptionist took 3 attempts on finding us an appropriate room. First one smelt like cigarette smoke and the second didn't have a lock on the door.

Review 91:Breakfast was really good and staff very pleasant

Review 92:bed uncomfy room next to fans. staff seemed rushed off feet 2 tables in at night breakfast was poor not much selection only fryed eggs to offer

Review 93:swimming sauna steam room

Review 94:Food and service in Month's Restaurant for dinner was less than satisfactory.

Review 95:Excellent b&b value. Clean, quiet and comfortable. Great facilities

Review 96:Coctails advertised on website but don't do them any more. Had to wait 20 mins on a bottle of white wine. They went to adjacent hotel.

Review 97:Was a nice wee break

Review 98:Disappointed that the bar closed at 10.30 pm on the Monday night - just as well we were already in the hotel and not returning later expecting a bar to be open.

Review 99:Included in the hotel price were the leisure facilities where we made good use of the swimming pool / jacuzzi/ sauna. Great after two days of hillwalking.

Review 100:The view from our room wasn't nice we could only see the roof of the leisure centre below but this didn't affect our holiday. Could have a bin outside. We used poop bags for our dogs and had no where to put it.

Review 101:We had a lovely weekend with my 2 dogs. Rooms are spacious and clean . Leisure facilities are great. Lovely outdoor space and the breakfast was very nice.

Review 102:Low water pressure in the shower, but lovely receptionist changed our room.

Review 103:Very central for Stirling, Perth, and Dundee etc. Modern rooms and bathroom.

Review 104:Not a negative comment in any way but the bar not opening till 5 o'clock might not suit some people. Peresonally we weren't bothered as we went down to jocks at the green hotel for a drink.

Review 105:Room was great for the price, the breakfast was excellent. The best of all were the leisure facilities, Fantastic.

Review 106:Nothing really. Only disappointment no 'doggy welcome pack' would have been interesting to know what would have been in it.

Review 107:Staff were very friendly and helpful. Had our dog with us, allocated a ground floor room at the end of the corridor. Room was large with plenty of space for the dog bed. Room was clean and presentable, shower was good plenty of hot water. Leisure facilities were good.

Review 108:Come on what has happened to jocks bar what happened to pub grub very expensive now and it was empty we used to go here all the time and queue for a table disappointed we left without purchasing anything

Review 109:Service was good and the pool was spotless nice food as well

Review 110:Carpet and curtains are terrible. Windows need cleaned. Need new lamps! Think they are older than me! Rooms a bit dull. Need brighter lights!

Review 111:I stayed in room 301. Warm room. Warm water. Nice big room and big window. Nice view. Big mirror for getting ready.

Review 112:We liked the jacuzzi and pool. The staff were so friendly and nothing too much trouble. We ordered room service for breakfast and would recommend it. A real treat.

Review 113:Not being able to play pool with my 17 yr old. Due to licensing laws yet there was nobody in the bar after 8 pm. But we're allowed to drink in the lobby.

Review 114:The bed was not very comfortable. You could feel the springs. A quilted or memory foam mattress topper would make a big difference.. The croissants at breakfast were not fresh.

Review 115:helpful friendly staff, lovely spacious, quiet room. Very good bathroom, nice breakfast. Good bedding.

Review 116:Not really a bad experience but the pool area could do with an update and clean and some repairs need doing. Area round the pool and jacuzzi had broken grills. Reception area looked very tired.

Review 117:The staff were very friendly, the room we got was modern and clean. The restaurant was nice. Breakfast was good.

Review 118:Creeky floorboards really bad. Car was stuck in a pool of water asthe carpark at the back of Hotel flooded on our second night. Had to move car at night.

Review 119:The room was really big and the leisure facilities sold it for us. Very good.

Review 120:The worn entrance hall carpet is but a small detail compared to the rest of advantages

Review 121:Pool, sauna, bedroom all clean and fresh. Good breakfast selection. We travelled around Loch Leven, saw beautiful paintings in Kirkcaldy Art Gallery, went for walk in Crieff, as well as good local curry and car auction!

Review 122:Steam room was broken but it didn't affect our stay

Review 123:Great location very close to Loch Leven. Beautiful place to relax. The hotel is a little quirky but a great place to stay. The food in the restaurant was great but service is a little slow. But so is the pace of life here. I say just relax and enjoy. Great gym and pool facilities. Free wifi

Review 124:Hot water was a problem. Organisation at breakfast left a lot to be desired but the food was fine

Review 125:The staff were fantastic - friendly and helpful. Room was lovely and big

Review 126:Hotel needs a complete refurbishment especially the entrance at the back and also reception area.We always enjoy our stay at the Windlestrae but we could see the faults this time. Also no Sky television channels. The bar had no lemon or lime when we went for a drink which you would expect in a hotel. There was also a problem with the water which was unfortunate. When going for a shower it was only cold water and later when wanting to brush my teeth it was only hot!!Hopefully they will take these comments on board.

Review 127:Location is good, pool is nice and staff very nice.Grounds are nice too and are good for sitting out in summer

Review 128:Some strange noises that came from the water pipes. This was being addressed.

Review 129:The hotel staff were excellent, very helpful and friendly. You couldn't pass reception without a cheerful hello. The gym and pool facilities were very good and again the staff were very helpful and pleasant. Great breakfast, I would stay again.

Review 130:there was a wee problem with the water temp and pressure in the morning , but the staff said they were working on it.

Review 131:Staff were really friendly and very efficient. Food was freshly prepared and tasty. Liked the use of the swimming pool and leisure facilities. We had several beauty treatments, all were excellent and really good value for money. The room was modern and clean and warm. We had a really good break here and we will be back. Thankyou.

Review 132:The main reception and stairway are a little bit worn but you can see that the hotel are carrying out refurbishments.

Review 133:We got a good price ona one night stay on booking.com and it was fantastic value for money. The refurbished leisure and rooms were perfect. Lovely staff. We will definitely be back for longer next time.

Review 134:Twin beds pushed together to make a double. Cold water tap ran warm water. Shower occasionally ran cold

Review 135:Leisure facilities excellent. Room good size. Food was good. Staff helpful.

Review 136:parking was busy at times

Review 137:we booked hotel as we were attending a wedding in the hotel and upon arrival found hotel staff very helpful and kept us informed of all that was happening with wedding, venue was good and had a excellent night

Review 138:Dog welcome package promised but didn't appear.

Review 139:Easy to book and to find. Good location near main road but quiet. Just what was needed as a break in the journey. Good setting for exercising dog.

Review 140:Communal areas threadbare and dated. Bedroom was next to gym and was noise transfer through the walls, and took two complaints to get gym music turned down. Bathroom plug did not seal properly making filling the bath take longer. Steam room smelled of sewerage. Sauna dirty under benches and noise from overhead ventilation duct. Much of car park was flooded. Loud Background music at breakfast - not necessary. Waitress took breakfast order whilst ambulatory at buffet rather than waiting til seated.

Review 141:Large double bed (two singles together), nice bed linen, spacious room, modern decor in bedroom & bathroom

Review 142:Furniture and carpets, communal area dated, furniture in the bar needs to be re-arranged to make it at more pleasant, at the moment it is like a station waiting room

Review 143:Wellness facilities
