Reviews for Dunford House

Review 1:Room was fairly basic. Perhaps a few pictures on the wall would have livened it up a bit.

Review 2:The location was amazing. greeted by a couple of pheasants as we arrived. However in the winter it's dark early and obviously difficult to make use of the grounds especially when it is raining. The perfect spot for a summer get away though. The staff were so helpful and friendly.

Review 3:There was no obvious bar area, but they do have a lounge for relaxing in away from your room. Unfortunately no evening restaurant either but we visited The Royal Oak which is a short distance away.

Review 4:Dunford House is a really lovely place to stay. It is in a very quiet and out of the way location, we even came across a deer in the grounds as we arrived. The staff member who greeted us was helpful and friendly. I noted how quiet the house seemed because there were not many guests and I really cannot understand why. Even though the house is old we found it remarkably warm and cosy. The room we had was more than enough for the two of us for the night we stayed and I really wish we had stayed longer. Breakfast was good, giving a mix of continental buffet and cooked breakfast. I possibly ate more than my share but only because I was enjoying it.

Review 5:only downside was that access was along a single track road with very few passing places

Review 6:Peacefulness of location. Rooms were a good size and breakfast was plentiful buffet and delicious. Staff were very efficient pleasant and helpful.

Review 7:We didn't appreciate breakfast was in a building a few minutes walk away. Thankfully dry. And breakfast excellent

Review 8:Out in the sticks with great Autumn views. Old family house duly extended. Bit ramshackle. Comfortable.

Review 9:It was unfortunate there are no dining facilities

Review 10:The excellent surroundings, the well-appointed bedroom, the helpful, friendly staff, the perfect breakfast cooked by Mark, excellent WiFi

Review 11:The bathrooms are very small and dated .

Review 12:Very helpful friendly staff , lovely country house , excellent breakfast . Great pub down the road Royal Oak fab food and atmosphere for Dinner

Review 13:We were just asked ?Do we want the cooked breakfast ?" without being given options ! I might have liked to have had Bacon and eggs, but he was so fast we couldn't stop him to suggest it !

Review 14:Serene tranquility and peaceful setting.

Review 15:Nothing

Review 16:Comfortable rooms, lovely breakfast with home made bread & wonderful staff especially Mary. Really enjoyed our stay & will be back again when in the area.

Review 17:"sleepy hollow" would sum this up. Poor signage, very dodgy bridge over a stream on the approach road, no staff in the main house at breakfast time (felt like the Mary Celeste) and reception unmanned at checkout time! just left my key on the desk.....

Review 18:location and the fact it was quiet

Review 19:Lack of mirror in the bedroom and no bottles of water or biscuits. Information leaflets about the area would have been useful.

Review 20:A peaceful and secluded rural location. Excellent breakfasts. Very pleasant staff.

Review 21:Bathroom facilities let it down. No bath and bathroom and shower cubicle very small and old fashioned.

Review 22:Location close to Goodwood and beautiful grounds, breakfast very good.

Review 23:There was no mirror in the bedroom - only the bathroom. Breakfast was served in a separate building across the car park - not ideal if raining! Everywhere was extremely hot!It

Review 24:Close to Goodwood and Midhurst.

Review 25:Bathroom dated as is decor, pictures make it look like a grand house but it is more akin to a hostel.

Review 26:There for a wedding nearby so did not stay for long or have breakfast. Room was big and clean

Review 27:It's more set up for corporate clients than couples, to be fair the did say they are just opened up to the family market, I would stay there again

Review 28:Nice location, set in nice grounds

Review 29:Upon arriving found our room coverd in numerous bugs am guessing window was leftopen before arrival. Got rid of them and was fine. Would have liked bath in room for 100 a night

Review 30:Nice place in kovely setting comforta le with decent breakie too

Review 31:The staff were so friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. The rooms were well quipped furnished and maintained. Very comfy beds. Beautiful grounds. Breakfast was tasty and a great continental all round.

Review 32:There was nothing not to like.

Review 33:Staff were friendly and very helpful. The surroundings were very peaceful. Breakfast cooked to order, no sitting under a hot plate!

Review 34:The location is very peaceful. There was no conference on a Sunday evening, just a few travellers like myself. A kind welcome, a quiet night, an excellent breakfast, and a pleasant walk in the wooded grounds.

Review 35:Very basic, small room, thin walls, and that's all you get, it had YMCA on the outside and this summed it up. No bar or food facilities so have to drive or have a long walk to get anything other than coffee and biscuits if that's what you want then it was ok. Wifi was free which was good.

Review 36:No much other than free WiFi

Review 37:The hotel was not easy to find because sat-nav took us along the wrong road and then told us to drive 0.5 mile cross-country! But that is not a fault of the hotel!

Review 38:A somewhat 'quirky' property that has been used as a conference centre for many years but has now broadened its approach to provide B&B. A Continental Breakfast was served in the old coach house a few yards walk away and was excellent. Evening meals are not provided but there are several good pub-restaurants a short drive away. The location was peaceful being down a long lane and the gardens provided opportunity for quiet walks. The staff were friendly and very helpful and other guests were also friendly. The location would be ideal for a walking holiday.

Review 39:The only downside was that during my visit there was not a chef, so no cooked breakfast. That is being resolved in a couple of weeks.

Review 40:The remote location of the house in 60 acres of gardens / land is wonderful. Very tranquil. All the staff are extremely helpful. There are 2 good pubs in close proximity. I walked to both and they are just over 1 km to each up the narrow lane that leads to the property.

Review 41:The hotel needs to be more clearly marked from the A286. Even when you leave the main road the slip road to the hotel is obscured by greenery. If the intention is to be much busier with hotel guests then the long lead in on a single track is likely to be inadequate as there is only one decent passing point. We had hoped for a light cooked breakfast for the money altho' what was provided was beautifully served and very varied. We also felt that a bedside table and bedside lamp should be provided at each side of the bed not just on one side.

Review 42:The location and surroundings were lovely. All the staff were lovely and very helpful.

Review 43:Poor value for money. Described as a luxury venue - true if you are a young backpacker. A couple looking for a luxury, romantic stay should look elsewhere. First room we were offered had been recently refurbished but was tiny and very basic - bathroom was tired and windowless. On complaining, we were offered one of the "older" rooms - more character, lovely view but still basic and tired. Bathroom again dated and windowless. We declined the extra cost "continental" breakfast. Staff were willing to please but have limited options to appease disgruntled guests. Quality of rooms and lack of facilities mean this should not be considered a location for a quality, luxury stay - this is not made clear in the description. The establishment retains its YMCA roots.

Review 44:Tranquil surroundings

Review 45:The breakfast option was continental, which is fine, although it cost £6.75! Not quite sure how you can charge that much for a croissant and some toast.

Review 46:There wasn't a variety in the breakfast provided although I must thank them for providing me with Gluten Free rolls

Review 47:The staff were super helpful and polite. The room we were given was faultless.

Review 48:Not a bad experience, but I think you should have made clear there were no bar facilities, evening meals (I believe) and that it was a YMCA establishment. For dining, one has to be prepared to sit with others, refectory style. Overall, it was fine for my purposes for that particular stay, but would not have been in different circumstances.

Review 49:The standard to the hotel is a huge disappointment given the way it is described on the website, it is also highly over priced, especially considering that breakfast is not included. We were offered breakfast at an additional (and expensive) cost, but the option was limited, it only included cereal or pastries. The shower was awful, it couldn't maintain a constant temperature and was either scalding hot or cold. My boyfriend was actually burned when the water changed temperature while he was stood under it. We mentioned this as we checked out but the lady at reception was not interested. If I could get my money back, I would. I would rather have stayed at a premier inn!

Review 50:Peaceful & tranquil surrounds. Staff very friendly & incredibly helpful. Good breakfast & plenty of it. Dealt well with special diet requirements. Will definitely be back!

Review 51:Beautiful well maintained period building, very clean and confortable. Absolutely great staff, friendly and helpful.

Review 53:The friendly welcome, all of the staff are so helpful it was a pleasure to return, we look forward to another visit.

Review 54:Great B & B facility - surrounded by good access to country walks

Review 57:Quiet location, warm and comfortable, staff friendly and nice breakfast.

Review 58:the staff were really friendly and nothing was too much bother

Review 59:The history of the building sympathetically featured without losing comfort. The staff were so polite and attentive. Great place to stay.

Review 60:Access via a very long drive with very inadequate passing places.

Review 61:Peace, quiet and quirky.

Review 62:Lack of any possible refreshment in the evenings, had to go out again.
