Reviews for Hilton Royal Parade Hotel

Review 1:I upgraded our room on line, and was promised a very large room with a seaview, but when we opened the door the room was disgusting! So small, the curtains were hanging off and the window sills were filthy!!!After speaking to the receptionist she gave us another room which was better in size. The bed sheets were dirty, which I noticed on the morning of our checkout!!

Review 2:We liked the location, paying £1 for all day parking outside the hotel was brilliant!! The receptionist, she was lovely and helpful

Review 3:There was a massive draft coming through the window so I kept the curtain closed all the time and put something in front of the window so that the draft wouldn't be so bad. It served well as a fridge, though. (I had one of the back rooms without a good view)

Review 4:There is a piano to play on in the hotel but it was so out of tune that everything sounded horrible. It was hilariously funny, though. Let's hope they get it tuned soon. Would play on it again.

Review 5:There was no English food being served in the evening only Indian food at the attached restaurant, which is fine if you like spicy food my wife is allergic to some spices. Therefore we had to eat out and my wife's mobility is poor so going out in the evening was difficult.

Review 6:The view was overlooking the sea which we asked for. Parking was ok we paid £1 a day for a pass. Room was reasonably comfortable but very cold even with heating on

Review 7:Parking was an issue as usual in Eastbourne. Not a fault of the hotel though.

Review 8:The location was ideal, room was comfortable and warm. Indian restaurant on site was good as we arrived late. Staff couldn't have been more helpful or pleasant. Would definitely recommend this hotel as good value for money.

Review 9:Only slight negative was the table service in the dining room-good staff, willing and friendly but a bit disorganized ,so some people got irritated by long wait-just needs a little attention -maybe give the servers their own areas to take care of?

Review 10:Staff were lovely, room was warm clean and comfortable, food was generally good given the amount of people being served and the cost of the stay, and entertainment thrown in.

Review 11:Felt that facilities could have been slightly more cleaner room was ok but public corridors ext where dirty

Review 12:Location very good as being on the seafront, and only a short walk to the Pier and shops

Review 13:Very disappointing. Hotel almost empty. Facilities not as described on website.Only food available was indian. Bucket in bar cos ceiling leaking! Heating in room did not work. So they moved me to another one but no sea view which I had requested. Scruffy frayed carpets. Poor lifts - one not working.

Review 14:By the sea though no sea view as I had requested.

Review 15:Windows filthy in room had sea view but couldn't see through them paint on Windows and curtains. shower and toilet separate very small .no socket near mirror for hairdryer Television in stupid place right in front of the window

Review 16:Location

Review 17:When I arrived my room was dirty. It looked nothing like the pictures. The receptionist looked Pissed off that I interupted his dinner and wasn't very helpful or friendly. My remote control didn't work and the hot water takes about 10 minutes to even get warm. The sink was so tiny and the taps were so low that it was hard to even fill up a cup. The saving grace of the hotel was one of the night porters and the maintenence guy. However I wouldn't stay here again especially not for that price.I had a disgusting view of the back of some buildings. Too much money was spend doing up the lobby.

Review 18:It wasn't too far from town to walk in and out as I pleased.

Review 19:staff rude, no hairdryer and when asked was told nothing they could do sheets dirty and 1 towel will not stay again.

Review 20:breakfast staff where good, breakfast ok

Review 21:Reception staff rude on arrival. Bar selling out of date products crisps n snacks. Room was tired looking curtains hanging off the curtain track. Windows filthy.

Review 22:Bed wasn't really comfortable, old windows, underground restaurant looks old, dirty dishes.

Review 23:Close to sea, cheap parking over the road, nice personal, food was fine.

Review 24:No hot water on tap, had to run the tap for 20 minutes to finally get hot water. Hotel could do with redecorating

Review 25:Location near to theatres and sea front.

Review 26:The furniture was old and far too big for the room, the doors banged all night - not a restful nights sleep. Staff were hard to find and even reception didn't answer - no hairdryer in room. The hotel was far too hot for us, due to the size of the furniture it was extremely difficult to even reach the window to open it. Overall the hotel is looking and feeling very tired

Review 27:The price of the room was very reasonable and I didn't expect the ritz however we've stayed in caravans with bigger bathrooms

Review 28:It was dirty, heating didn't work. The bathroom rail was hanging off the wall. The air vent was also hanging off the wall. You couldn't close the toilet door. You had to hold your finger down on the kettle for it to work. I know it's an old building but it smelt very discusting. This is a 1 star hotel.

Review 29:The staff were friendy

Review 30:Everything. The advert is missleading and nothing to do with the Hilton group. Downstairs is beautiful and classy but the rooms and corrider are like stepping back in time to the 80's. Toilet blocked. Shower leaked. Door opend onto the bed. The bed had springs sticking out. The duvet was falling apart. Its smelt musty. Draws were broked and filthy. Were tempted to sleep in the car as a better alternative. After reading the reviews and listening to other guest we checked out at 5am. Was refused a refund or alternative Never been to somewere so filthy and discusting. Looks like no one has cleaned or updated anything since the early 80's. 1 Extra blanket offerd in the room was from the local hospital. Vile

Review 31:Nothing

Review 32:The heating was not adjustable and it got very cold

Review 33:There were too few staff members for the size of the hotel but the service was for the most part remarkably good meaning to me they were more efficient than most.

Review 34:The bedroom window would neither open nor close. Could not get radiator to work. Restaurant very hot.

Review 35:Good size single room, constant hot water, easy to use shower, comfortable bed, towels changed daily. Nicely cooked food with plenty of menu choice. Diet catered for.

Review 36:The sink and shower blocked every time we used it, filling with water, not a nice experience at all. Very inconvenient.

Review 37:Location was good, had a lovely sea view.

Review 38:TV reception was poor depending on the wind speed affecting the signal. Did want to watch late at night and in morning for news but poor reception was disappointing. Room 132.

Review 39:Convenient location. Excellent housekeeping with clean towels daily, bathroom cleaned, bed tidied and room smelled fresh. Friendly and helpful reception staff

Review 40:Creaky floorboards, the bed was awful and extremely uncomfortable, no phone in room to call reception, the shower was broken, the shower was awful...plastic flooring in there, the bedroom door was extremely heavy and with a broken bone in my back it was hard to shut without letting go and causing it too slam! Never staying there again.

Review 41:The view from the room was beautiful!

Review 42:The room was compact despite paying for the sea view. The toilet didn't flush properly, the shower was very low pressure and not adjustable. The TV turned itself on in the middle of the night - 2 nights running! Oh and the plug socket was hanging off the wall. Some areas need improving.

Review 43:Excellent location

Review 44:We were given a ground floor room right next to the lift at the bottom of the staircase and near to the restaurant it was extremely noisy not to mention the smell of the food wafting under the door and the chattering of people waiting for the lift or sat in the restaurant even. Hardly relaxing and every time the lift stopped you could hear "going up" etc

Review 45:Budget hotel

Review 46:Worst bed I have used, very uncomfortable. Staff when I arrived the night was very unfriendly. Next day staff was better

Review 47:Cheap and good location but not staying there again.

Review 48:Night staff rude. Shower/wc very small and needs updating Freezingroom when got in .. Couldn't stay for more then 1 night

Review 49:Lovely bed comfortable and soft All clean room

Review 50:Asked for cot when booking on day of travel received an e mail saying travel cot is an extra £10 per night when arrived both rooms were above the boiler room and heat was unbearable also cot was broken hence did not stay for second night and did not receive refund on room

Review 51:The only 2 issues I had was that there was no one on reception at first and no indication of how long or where they were - about a 5 min wait before she arrived. The other issue was the dirty outside bedroom window which needed cleaning badly

Review 52:The receptionist on arrival was very pleasant and made me feel welcome - the room was lovely and spacious with plenty of storage. My one night stay was most enjoyable

Review 53:Although the room was relatively clean the furniture was of a poor quality. The st9airs and landing areas are dirty and the decoration is extensively damaged.

Review 54:The staff were helpful.

Review 55:The room was very warm! The bed was creaky and our room was above the kitchen where we would hear the kitchen staff talk, cook and listen to the radio early in the morning

Review 56:Good location, clean room and easy check in and out.

Review 57:Shower took several minutes to reach a decent temperature, although our expectations were managed by a sign in the room, on the 2nd floor, stating this. There is a sink in the room with a separate shower & separate loo.

Review 58:The hotel is very tired and basic. I'm baffled how they get away with using the "Hilton" name. It couldn't be more removed from that brand if it was a down-at-heel hostel!

Review 59:The staff are amazing. Very helpful letting us have access to all our rooms and hour ahead of check-in time. They were just so efficient and polite. The sea view was beautiful and a great sight to wake up to.

Review 60:The bed was extremely noisy and as a young couple activities had to cease.we checked out at 11pm instead of.staying the whole night.

Review 61:Good value for money

Review 62:Dirty Windows. Everything else couldn't fault

Review 63:Lovely room 106 on first floor beautiful sea view which you pay extra for, but the windows were dirty so impaired the beautiful sea views. Full English breakfast in the morning was delicious only criticism could have had 2 sausages instead of 1.

Review 64:Needs updating especially bathroom facilities Not very nice having breakfast in basement area

Review 65:Sea views, shame breakfast room didn't overlook the seafront

Review 66:Rooms were drafty, the TV didn't work and the shower had no hot water even after waiting 5 mins as recommended.

Review 67:The staff tried to help with the issues but they were unable to resolve them.

Review 68:Reception staff too busy, difficult to understand. No telephone in room (single person)? Torn curtain, noisy lift, water cascading down walls, noisy. Limited dinner times.1 hour - 6.30- 7.30. Waiter not happy when I appeared at 7.05. So went elsewhere! Bar dismal, nobody in it.

Review 69:Room, clean but very basic. Bar attendant helpful and courteous. But had to ring bell. Very unwelcoming!

Review 70:the location of both rooms meant they were susceptible to an unacceptable level of noise throughout the night. staff were unable to control a volatile situation and therefore guests felt unsafe in the hotel

Review 71:good mattress in one room

Review 72:Decor, carpets and fittings were in a great need of updating. Toilet seat very loose Restaurant was wasted in the basement as we would have liked to view the sea whilst dining Directions around the hotel were not at all clear - we ended up walking into the restaurant via the staff stairway and door.

Review 73:The staff were helpful and the sea view was lovely

Review 74:Room was cupboard with no chair or coat hangers, and no spare blanket or pillow. Curtains were tatty and carpet somewhat tired. The ambience was akin to a low quality bed and breakfast establishment. Breakfast was very poor quality - coffee quite undrinkable.

Review 75:Staff member who checked us in was not helpful regarding breakfast as we needed it earlier than 8am. Shower pressure was none existent and bathroom wasn't very appling.

Review 76:Comfy bed

Review 77:Extremely poor room no internet connection there and even in the lobby where supposedly the wifi worked absolutely nothing! Very average breakfast and I had to ask for another room because the window handle was broken!!!!!

Review 78:Excellent location and very friendly staff that tried enormously to cover the very bad facilities

Review 79:Bed uncomfortable, dirty hallways.

Review 80:The staff lovely, the bed vey old and uncomfortable, bathroom was a cupboard and needed to run shower for ten minutes before hot water came through. Communal hallways and stairs dirty and in need of decoration , as well as communal toilets. This was a shame as hotel has an amazing view and its location good, it also has a fantastic Indian restaurant.

Review 81:Booked two rooms but ended up apart with two set of stairs and a door in between, would have been nice to at least the same part/floor

Review 82:On the sea front, would use again

Review 83:The corridor on the first floor stinks like something between Swiss cheese and vomit. It was probably rotten carpet. This horible smell was noticeable in our room as well. Unfortunatelly, we couldn't open the windows in our room, so the situation was not great. Another problem was the shower. We couldn't figure out how to swich on hot water, but we found a very helpful leaflet explaining the situation: the rooms on the first floor need "some time" for water to get warm. Well, after 30 minutes it was not, however it was less chilly.. The sink in the toilet is squeezed in narrow recess space, so normal size human has no chance to use it.

Review 84:Friendly Romanian receptionist called Maria. The location of the hotel is good.

Review 85:Horrible smell from the carpets. Very tiny room..view was not good piles of glass was all we could see from the window. Bed sunk in and it very uncomfortable both woke with bad backs, very much needs updating.

Review 86:Friendly staff

Review 87:Average age of guest was 70. So quiet place, no entertainment. Old furniture, squeaky bed, dusty stairs, cosy corridors.

Review 88:Convenient location, see view, clean room, privacy.

Review 89:Needs a bit of a refurb.. But for the price you can't complain...socket behind bed dangerously hanging off ...335...

Review 90:Very clean .. Polite staff .., breakfast ok...quiet in room .

Review 91:Room was lovely and clean staff were excellent nothing was too much trouble and the overall hotel was excellent can NOT fault it at all very happy will return

Review 92:Minimal staff available and those that were had a very poor command of English. Menu very restrictive and not of the best quality

Review 93:The location of the hotel was good overlooking the seafront.

Review 94:Receptionist was a little frosty while appearing to be helpful.. The curtains in the room didn't fully span the window so there were gaps seeping light through first thing. The lifts and some decor were almost archaic while other bits were thoroughly modern. Wouldn't stay again

Review 95:Good location and nice Sea view

Review 96:On arrival curtains hanging off pole , tv didn't work, no wi fi in 317 , cold room at bac of hotel , mould / damp in bathroom, radiator no knob on it to switch it on , reported it , nobody bothered , so cold slept in clothes , since complained to both hotel and booking .com , this hotels standard double rm 317 does not meet booking .coms criteria not worth £59.00 a night .

Review 97:Only location right on sea front would not recommend anyone to go though.

Review 98:Family room had high window what pulled up, from the bottom leaving an 800mm gap from the skirting board up. What were left open by the maid, and my 1year old son crawled out off on to the balconey leaving me in a state of panic then shock. !!!!!!! sink was in the most ridiculous position and was so diffacultfor us to use

Review 99:Bar area was good , bar was unattended and we had to ring a bell took an age for someone to turn up. !!!!!

Review 100:We told the cleaning staff it was taking longer to get ready for a wedding & they kept bother us & had the front desk person call our room to explain we were taking too long to leave. It's not like a horde of people were lined up wanting to take possession of that room.

Review 101:Went down for dinner the restaurant and corridors smell of damp felt sick didn't. Go down again dinner was of very poor standard.

Review 102:The sad veiw room didn't say when booking you have to pay extra

Review 103:The bed was not very comfortable, in desperate need of new mattress! Wash basin was in the bedroom itself. Didn't like going into the basement for breakfast with no proper natural light.

Review 104:Staff were friendly and adjoining indian restaurant very good. Breakfast was nice.

Review 105:smaal, not clean, very old, no maintenance

Review 106:bad hotel and wrong name because it suggest quality from the hilton but this had nothing to do with this organization

Review 107:The only thing was the lift situation, with a 97yr old in tow walking from one area to another for lift was a challenge

Review 108:The staff were very helpful, the room was clean and breakfast good value

Review 109:I asked for a double room and got a twin room, staff could not find a solution to the issue, no apology, power sockets in stupid areas ie: at the top of a wall so plugging electronic items in was impossible, window that would not shut so the cold air came in, shower curtain then kept trying to grab you while you showered, rooms could do with a revamp, very out of date, furniture that was broken, not enough towels, they were to small, the three times I went to reception for help there was no one there, only time they were was on check in.

Review 110:Location was good, plenty to do in the area, hotel was a disappointment, the pictures I saw on booking was not what I experienced.

Review 111:The lack of parking, the shower was hard to use, hot water took forever to warm up, TV was too small had to sit at the end of the bed to watch, bed felt like sleeping on concrete, dusty and untidy

Review 112:The balcony where to drink is a lovely place to sit.

Review 113:Decor needs a lick of paint and change of carpet and stronger lighting. Room tiny. Windows didn't open enough and so room was sweltering even though it wasn't particularly hot outside.

Review 114:Sea view

Review 115:Staff are rude, we left some items and came back to check it and its gone. Travelled with disabled son no one even mention they have ramp adjacing from the other hotel.

Review 116:The dinning room for us was the only draw back being in the basement of the hotel, it seemed rather cramped and not enough room to collect tea/coffee when everyone came down at the same time, but the food was good

Review 117:The location for us was great, we went for Airborne and watched the Red Arrows and others from out sea view window it was excellent.

Review 118:Room cramped Two single beds pushed together awful pillows cold greasy breakfast in weird room in basement really rude horrible barman should not be working with paying public

Review 119:Good location

Review 120:The shower and wc room was a joke. It was just a cupboard. The basin was only any good for washing your hands and cleaning your teeth. But we just laughed about it. The price reflects this.We had water pouring through the ceiling at 5 am on our last morning. The night porter offered to move us. But as my mum is 86yrs old & I am disabled this would have disrupted the whole hotel. also we were checking out at 11am. But the night porter did offer me a bucket.Lol!!! I had to move both beds as the water was seaping onto my mums bed. It would have been nice if he had offered to do this for me.

Review 121:The food was very good and the restaurant staff were very pleasant. The beds were very comfortable. The evening entertainment was good except for one night. The DJ played the music so loud it was awful. Also he had no humour & didnt say a word. Boring!! sums this up. But I would stay here again, just not on the 3rd floor.

Review 122:The shower took ages to warm up, the sink fittings were loose and there was a fair bit of dust on the headboards.

Review 123:The girls on reception had excellent customer service skills and we're very polite. Room decor was a good standard.

Review 124:Only stayed one night but would have happily stayed more, room was lovely and spacious. close to all facilities. We didn't have breakfast there so can't comment. Very good value for money and would return when next in area

Review 125:Well it all started with a late payment for the booking which I was toldwould go out the same night-5days later it's bounced in my bank -!then we requested a ground floor as our mobility needs are bad and wehad our son and his pram-only to find that we were on the 2ndfloor!!!when I questioned this she said "well it's larger andwe wouldn't of got the cot in the downstairs one so we perciveredanyway as she said there was a lift.....I Would of called it a"dumb waiter" as the main lift was "out of order"well we couldn't get the push chair in it ....that's how smallit was and it took 5 journeys to get all our stuff and ourselves to theroom-then - omg-if the downstairs room was smaller then it must of beena CUPBOARD!!!!!!!it was tiny and with the travel cot in as well we hadjust enough room to get round the bed to open the window as the room wassweltering hot that I had to go ask for a fan -as there was no airconditioning! It was not sufficient for 2 grown adults and a toddler atall-and the window ledge was very low and had the pigeon deterrentspikes on the window ledge so we had to keep him away from them!!!! Asthey were very dangerous and to top it all then ..... The extracted fandidn't work although you had to be 8ft tall to switch the switch on!I cut my leg on a sharp staple sticking out the bottom of the bed Base! The bed was so soft we rolled into the middle! Not enough tea+coffeemaking items -no choice for de-caff! The travel cot they supplied wasmining! And the headboard over the bed fell down on us -! We had noapologies or offers of sympathy or change or discounts etc! And when Iwas struggling to get all the stuff in the silly tiny lift I had got oneleg opening the door so the lift want go up and trying to reach for mybbags-as a waiter/barman went by -looked-and walked straightpast!!!!! Good hospitality there......

Review 126:Nothing much even the bed was Un comfortable and a bag of springs-

Review 127:The room was awful the bed was falling apart the, inside of the door was unfinished , the toilet nearly fell of the wall when you flushed it , badly furnished and you couldn't move around the bed ! In my opinion it was a very tatty room , I would not stay there again

Review 128:The bar and downstairs area looked nice , it was a great location.

Review 129:The location of the Hotel to the shops is quite a distance and in my opinion its not ideal for the Elderly or infirm. The hotel is tired and needs a refit.

Review 130:Staff very good all very courteous, nothing was an issue for them, most of them had various tasks to carry out, ie. waitress at breakfast then straight on to cleaner, the bar tender had his work cut out due to the appalling weather but was great throughout.

Review 131:I did not like the hideous carpet. It hurt my eyes. I did not like the bathroom door that didn't shut properly and the hot water tap that didn't close. And the worst thing is that there was no aircon in the room. One day out room wasn't cleaned even though I had called the manager to make this request.

Review 132:The hotel is very dated. It was a very big shock walking into the hall way to our room. I really did not like the decor and the owners need to make an effort to bring that beautiful hotel into the modern times. Our bathroom door was broken. The place just needs a revamp. It's got so much going for it.

Review 133:Both lifts were broken on both the days we were there with no sign of an engineer. This didn't bother us, but be warned if you don't like stairs. The coffee machine in the bar was also broken which meant no hot drinks in the bar or restaurant (could no-one boil a kettle?). So a bit more maintenance needed and a second coffee machine please. They seemed short staffed. The bar was quite busy late on Saturday night and there was just one barman who was also acting as receptionist. The restaurant had two waiters and they seemed to be struggling with the number of diners. The hotel appeared to be "on the up" with some nice refurbishment, but the staff numbers need to catch up. The staircases were were narrow and twisty, with lots of fire doors and scraped paintwork, this was unappealing but an unavoidable feature of an old building. The breakfast room was in the basement, which was a shame as there was no view. Breakfast was indifferent, with only one flask of hot water and one milk jug for a large and busy room, which kept running out. Two pots of coffee/milk/hot water would have made a big difference. Again, they didn't seem quite prepared for the number of guests. All these are minor niggles, which hopefully can be sorted out.

Review 134:Fabulous location right on the sea front - the sea view was well worth the small supplement. There is a road between the hotel and the sea, but this didn't intrude and the background noise came from the sea. Close to the pier. Attractive public spaces with an Art Deco feel. The room was excellent, and appeared to have been recently refurbished. Very nice timber framed double glazed sash windows worked well and gave plenty of sea air. Comfortable beds and new good quality bathroom fittings. Pleasant art work on the newly painted walls. Heavy luxurious curtains. Indian restaurant in the hotel was also very good, worth a visit even if you are not staying there. The had a handy ground floor room for storing bicycles. Large public lounges and bar with sea views which would be very pleasant on a wet day. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely go back.

Review 135:The only thing was the lack of hot water when we needed it. Hopefully they can rectify this for other guests

Review 136:I liked the location not far from the station and convenience of shopping area. Site seeing was easy

Review 137:Nothing really. The lifts didn't work but for me was not a problem. We all need to get fitter . :) .

Review 138:Location,Breakfast really good and really comfy bed. Pleasant staff

Review 139:Rain came through the ceiling. Crutches skidded in the entrance hall. Avocado toilet No room in shower or toilet. Very poor reception on TV and internet _could have been the weather.

Review 140:Location and easy parking. Helpful staff.

Review 141:booked a family room as we had child with us. On arrival we were told that our rooms were separate and they were not next door to each other.

Review 142:the room was nice. Clean comfortable
