Reviews for Aviemore Youth Hostel

Review 1:The building is of basic construction and floor boards, doors etc are very creaky and walls are thin. Take ear plugs!

Review 2:Immaculate kitchen, good communal spaces

Review 3:Nothing at all to dislike.

Review 4:Excellent facilities, bright and clean. Good kitchen and lounge facilities. Excellent drying room. Dormitory bedroom functional but comfortable.

Review 5:none.

Review 6:the room is clean. suitable for small kids. the shower room, toilet, kitchen and dining area are clean too. staffs are friendly. If I come again, definitely will stay at this hostel. thank you.

Review 7:Did not like that the hostel was closed between 2 and 7 at night (also on weekends). They should have keys so that you can get in at night. Other hostels around the world gives you outdoor keys. It's such a party pooper :(

Review 8:Cool place! Close to everything! Great hiking area and personnel that help with whatever you need. Clean and nice. Close to town!!

Review 9:The wifi was a bit shakey, but was fine when it got going. Can't really complain, I enjoyed having it, you know.

Review 10:It was really reasonable - I liked almost all of it.

Review 11:It was freezing cold as the window was open in the room when I arrived even though it had been snowing that day. Later on it did warm up but it did take hours. That wasn't my only gripe. There is a TV room but they couldn't turn the sound up. The door didn't close on the shower. I only stayed one night to save money.

Review 12:They had free tea and coffee and they had bird feeders which weren't protected from the red squirrels so that was nice to see them. It is situated close to Aviemore shops so if you want facilities such as a Tesco and bars then this is a good location.

Review 13:Not very well signposted driving to it , WIFI was not great but that was the case in the whole area.

Review 14:Well situated & value for money. Good size lounge, kitchen & ample parking. Staff were helpful & friendly.

Review 15:Staff were lovely, especially as I was travelling on my own and the grounds were magical with the wildlife and beautiful cropped grass and pines. Kitchens were large and easy to use. Sofa's comfy.

Review 16:Wordt hostel ever! Way too big so very busy! We booked and payed three nights but left after the first night. We didn't get a refund but still left to stay at a better place.

Review 17:Nothing

Review 18:No complaints

Review 19:Booked fo hubby for Thunder in the Glen Harley Davidson festival. Really pleased with staff and location. He had a single room so value for money.

Review 20:WiFi is terrible and phone reception very poor.

Review 21:Chose the hostel again for my 2nd visit to the HOG rally Thunder in the Glens. The hostel's location is excellent, staff very helpful and you meet many interesting fellow travellers. Will be back next year.

Review 22:Lounge room had comfy looking chairs, but a strange damp smell so didnt stay. Wifi was poor and hardly worked away from the reception. Very strange lockers where the one of the doors gives you gives you access to two of the lockers. Breakfast was a little steep for some basic options, but it was 'all you can eat'. Items in the hostel shop had a ridiculous markup.

Review 23:Lovely little hostel, the rooms smelled fantastic and the beds were solid and didnt creak or squeak, lovely garden and a really nice interior.

Review 24:Pillows & duvet didn't really work for me. Pillow was way too high and duvet a bit lumpy and hot. Maybe just me though! Door is quite cumbersome to open/close which may have disturbed my roommates as i got ready.

Review 25:Great kitchen facilities & very clean

Review 26:the only issue was that i had to book for breakfast on the night before, so i didnt get any the next day, i shouldve read the leaflet.

Review 27:the people make you feel welcome, beds well organised, plus theres a tv and couches in the main room to make you feel more at home.

Review 28:Paid wifi - really?! Quite noisy - walls are paper thin.

Review 29:Nice common room with comfortable couches and armchairs. Well equipped kitchen. Friendly staff

Review 30:Would be nice to have handtowels/handriers in the toilets; saves people using toilet paper to dry hands and throw down the loos which will eventually block them up. Expensive for a youth hostel but cheap for Aviemore, which has London-priced hotels.

Review 31:Lovely staff; everyone super-welcoming, friendly and helpful. Great to have a kitchen to cook in. Go to the fishery and catch your trout and cook it for tea! Rooms are basic as you would expect.

Review 32:Needs a bigger sign-post. If you want quiet zones make sure the doors close easily and the floor boards do not creak!

Review 33:Quietness away from the main road!

Review 34:Bed was slightly too small for me at 5'11 and quite a bit too short for my mate at 6ft. It was good that they had bike storage but the lock was not adequate, needs to be a lot more secure.

Review 35:Staff were great, comfortable in terms of amenities, good location, very clean.

Review 36:Single room could have had more useful drawers. Expensive for a single room

Review 37:Near Aviemore .Shed for storing bikes .Free coffee and tea . Red squirrels around hostel

Review 38:Curfew is 2am - disturbed on two nights by people in my dorm coming back in the early hours. The hostel is supposed to cater to outdoor types who need their sleep - why isn't the curfew 11pm or midnight?

Review 39:Great location, friendly stafff, spotlessly clean. Loved the wildlife just outside the lounge windows!

Review 40:Staff were very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. I felt very 'at home, and able to come and go as pleased. Lovely location with regular red squirrels at the bird table. Central location but secluded. Lovely garden furniture, plenty of free parking. Perfect for a short break ski-ing.

Review 41:Little bit pricey for a youth hostel. Opening hours on the website do not reflect actual opening hours and caused a little worry. No reply/reassurance to the special request for late arrival

Review 42:Central location. Beds already made up, so late at night we could just fall into bed. Wonderful log fire in the communal area

Review 43:Stayed in twin room which was great. Not sure I fancy the small dormitory for males. Bigger is better

Review 44:Spacious,friendly staff, relaxation room, location.

Review 45:Not sure the breakfasts were up to much but could have been due to the kitchens being refurbished - only continental available.

Review 46:Beds were comfy and the rooms were nice and clean.

Review 47:only continential breakfast which we felt to be expensive at £4.50 per person - other YHAs provide full breakfast for similar prices. bit shocked that you had to pay for wifi - its normally free at most places.

Review 48:space, location, good sized rooms, kitchen and lounge. nice staff.

Review 49:creaky old metal beds every time i moved

Review 50:male member of staff only on his second shift, however he was so helpful. even printed off train times and brought them to me.. top bloke! Thanks mate

Review 51:Rien

Review 52:Thanks to Annabelle and all the staff at Aviemore for their warm hospitality and advice on what to see and do! The hostel is laid back off the A9 in a quiet location yet just 2 minutes walk to the centre of town. Perfect!

Review 53:Too noisy for any decent sleep (consider ear plugs seriously), bunk beds squeak due to cheap metal framework, economy modular building design means no sound deadening between rooms, creaky floor and fire doors banging along passageways. WiFi charges ought to be free in reception area.

Review 54:Location really is excellent, staff are great, a short walk into town to all services including petrol station/ Spar and also Tesco supermarket. The hostel Kitchen areas and food storage facilities are substantial, games and living room is also very good.

Review 55:although clean some areas a bit scrappy and in need of refurbishing, some of the hand driers didn't work, and one of the sockets didn't work in the room, I thought it was a little pricey for a youth hostel.

Review 56:Greeted by informative, helpful staff, the room was clean and the beds were comfy. Lots of toilets, shower and washrooms all over the place. The kitchen was large and well appointed/organised

Review 57:High hourly Wifi charges, even for hostel members. No discount for hostel members through booking.com.

Review 58:Scenery, hiking available out the back door; nearby buses for further-out destinations. Cute town aimed at outdoor enthusiasts.

Review 59:Wi-Fi connection available but not free, you had to pay for this.

Review 60:2 of us shared a 4 bed room so plenty of space. Large, efficient drying room. Plenty of good shower and toilet facilities near to bedrooms. Large, well-equipped self-catering kitchen. Close to centre of Aviemore.

Review 61:Attitude of staff Offer of a shower after our departure time Excellent kitchen facilities Beer in the fridge at reception!! Option of 3 and 4 man cabins Well set up for mountain bikers

Review 62:Matraces in the rooms could need a replacement

Review 63:very helpful stuff, even after technical issues of booking they organized me another hostel and taxi transfer

Review 64:Mattresses were really the most basic sprung ones, albeit beds were clean. Wifi access was not free and the breakfast is nothing extra, just a standard continental (no warm food)

Review 65:The owner was super friendly, gave direct and helpful suggestions about Aviemore and its surroundings. Liked the lounge and availability of beer.

Review 66:Door locks were sometimes a problem as doors were stiff and heavy.

Review 67:Staff were very welcoming. group facilities were impressive. rooms were comfortable and basins in rooms were a great addition.

Review 68:Squeaky bed. The kitchen is separated from the dining room by a door. The kitchen doesn't have a lot of preparation areas and what there is is next to kettle and toaster. Trying to cook and serve a meal can be quite a stressful experience. Youth hostelling is not a cheap option.

Review 69:Lovely staff who were very helpful. Everthing was clean.

Review 70:Friendly staff.

Review 71:Shared showers were poor

Review 72:Lounge and pool table

Review 73:Wifi connection was poor

Review 74:Good location, friendly staff, good value for money.

Review 75:Location and was very warm and clean.

Review 76:VERY HAPPY WITH OUR STAY, JUST WHAT WE WERE LOOKING FOR.

Review 77:Not much interaction with staff, no advise on what to do in the area or local amenities.

Review 78:Not having en suite in twin room. Beds not very comfortable.

Review 79:Extremely kind, helpful and patient young lady on reception. Kitchen

Review 80:Wifi access was rather complicated.

Review 81:Great location, good value.

Review 82:The location The Trust from the staff to let u do your own thing.

Review 83:Bad smell in kitchen and dining area on our first night.

Review 84:Friendly and helpful staff. Comfortable beds. Decent shower.

Review 85:Wifi, 3/hr in this day & age is a bit excessive. Inverness hostel week before was free I think.

Review 86:Great location, good lounge & kitchen.

Review 87:No fridge

Review 88:Location

Review 89:Great facilities, friendly staff

Review 90:Beautiful place, stunning location! Friendly staff and well-kept facilities

Review 91:I found the staff a bit unfriendly. Not all of them, but with some I felt like asking them a question was already too much.

Review 92:Comfy bed and showers.

Review 93:Probably the best youth hostel I have stopped in. Helpful staff, good facilities and in easy walking distance of the town

Review 102:Friendly staff, nice facilities (especially kitchen)

Review 103:Wifi in lobby only.

Review 104:Good value

Review 105:Great location. Relaxed atmosphere.

Review 106:Nothing really. Maybe some more power points in rooms for charging phones or a stacked connector in the common room would be ideal
