Reviews for Cristal Hôtel Restaurant

Review 1:Panic opening front door turned out was not exerting enough force. Had to get helpful staff in neighbouring restaurant to assist.

Review 2:Friendly English speaking staff. 2 windows each with river view. Excellent restaurant good breakfast and proximity to town centre.

Review 3:We were delayed and had to arrive in the middle of the night. The hotel called my cell phone and gave instruction on how to access our room and all went smoothly. All of our needs were met; breakfast was good and the location is excellent. Lots to do and see within walking distance. Fee parking not too far away.

Review 4:Everything was fine. No complaints!

Review 5:Located facing the lovely Loire river and a short walk from the chateau. We had a very comfortable and spacious room.

Review 6:Room to front of hotel, over restaurant, so noisy 'til business closed - but small price to pay for stunning view of river.

Review 7:Lovely location in our favourite French town! Spotlessly clean room, great breakfast - and outdoors!

Review 8:Young and motivated staff - very good. Excellent location. Good dining facilities in hotel and in walking distance! Nice room with traditional flavor

Review 9:The rubbish truck was outside at 6.30am which was a bit noisy.

Review 10:Great location, friendly staff, good restaurant and a very comfortable night's sleep. Large room and bathroom with a good shower.

Review 11:Bed a bit firm, but that's probably me!

Review 12:Great location for exploring Saumur. Period propertiy with all that goes with that. Nice restaurant attached to hotel serving good food.

Review 13:Wi-Fi was a little more of a faff than usual.

Review 14:Great location, really lovely room with good views of the river and happy sounds wafting up from the street cafes. The staff were friendly and professional without being stuffy and happy to speak English. Excellent food in restaurant, easy parking out front.

Review 15:The room was a bit squeeze with the extra bed in it.

Review 16:A great location on the river, and the whole feel of the place was warm and cosy. Hotel staff were lovely.

Review 17:None at all!!!

Review 18:Location overlooking the Loire but sheltered from road noise (car park between hotel and road). Excellent fare for dinner and adequate breakfast!

Review 19:Absolutely nothing we did not like.

Review 20:We had room 31 on the 3rd floor and seeing as we grabbed the last room at the hotel for that night expected to get some dingy back of house room. It we could not of been more wrong. The room was large and comfortable. Well decorated with a good ensuite shower etc. the dog was welcome and the staff were great. Situated right on the river near the bridge, free parking 30 metres away down on the river car park. Old town plazas 2 minute walk right behind the hotel. Good food available in the hotel but didn't have breakfast due to going out walking. Overall I would whole heartedly recommend this hotel and the value for money was excellent.

Review 21:No lift! Narrow stairs so unless you are happy with climbing to your room, maybe not a good choice. Staff did offer to carry bags up on our arrival and departure

Review 22:We had a lovely room at the front, overlooking the river which was very relaxing both day and night. Other rooms without the view weren't quite so nice Friendly staff Excellent location for the town, restaurants etc Attractive decor in the room and good bathroom

Review 23:The information pack said the car parking 'by the river' was free - turns out there are a few of these and the one where we parked wasn't free - definitely check before you leave your car!

Review 24:Beautiful location, lovely room with a balcony overlooking the Loire

Review 25:No tea or coffee or water in the room

Review 26:Really friendly helpful staff. Great location right next to the old part of town, and five minutes from the chateau

Review 27:Attrocious bedroom position up 2 Flights of unlit narrow wooden stairs. Only French programmes on TV. Outlook from window was an adjoining building stone wall. Breakfast self service was not in the breakfast room .generally run down bathroom and shower and the lighting in the bathroom was extremely poor and plumbing was only third rate.

Review 28:The position of the hotel is good what a pity that the hotel experience was so dreadful.

Review 29:Unbelievably small room, although there was a view of the Loire if you knelt down to see through the tiny, low window. The bathroom was very poor quality, outdated and scruffy. There was a kettle in the room - with 1 teabag! We didn’t eat evening meal or breakfast there so can’t comment on the food. I think it was expensive for what it was.

Review 30:The location

Review 31:Stayed 7 Nights, Premier room with a balcony complete with bistro table and chairs overlooking the Loire River.Good restaurant.Staff friendly. Great place for a base. will go again.

Review 32:Did not like 'plastic' mattress cover which reflected body heat on warm nights! Also bedroom looked out on roofs about 1 metre away! Maybe I could have got a better room by booking direct or through Logis de France.

Review 33:Great location in centre of Saumur. It is in area away from passing traffic but adjacent to Loire. Breakfast was good in nice bright room. Parking was in public car park which was free from 7.00pm 'til 9.00am but payable during daytime.

Review 34:The lack of an elevator made this a very difficult for anyone who is not extremely fit and strong and able to carry up suitcases. The outside restaurant was noisy.

Review 35:The room was OK. The staff was friendly and helped by carrying the luggage up the 3 flights of stairs.

Review 36:Bathroom a bit tatty eg no basin plug and safety button from shower hot water tap missing.... Loose sharp bolts in shower....view from room 23 is not nice ....

Review 37:Location Wi fi

Review 38:beware the standard room. our standard room was up a most perilous winding dark staircase in the roof. we said that this was unacceptable upon which we were changed to a first floor room which was ok. no extra charge and no hesitation be the manager.

Review 39:the friendliness of the staff. the restaurant was also excellent. breakfast was good.

Review 40:None

Review 43:great location, an adorable room with a view on The Loire, good price quality value

Review 44:Quirky but comfortable hotel with a nice restaurant and good food.

Review 45:Felt like we were in servants quarters, no tea or coffe facilities in room, no view, access via steep and poorly lit staircase

Review 64:nothing to dislike

Review 65:all of it

Review 66:Hotel was in a great spot and the rooms were nice, comfortable and clean.

Review 70:Food was good and staff very nice spoke in English

Review 71:nothing

Review 72:view of the Loire from the room excellent meal in the restauant

Review 73:Location, at the heart of Saumur and the Loire

Review 74:Noisy at night with people going home late

Review 75:Position and light airy room Restaurant at the hotel

Review 76:Beds were really hard The food was lovely but too many add ons on the price of the food Drinks expensive

Review 77:Breakfast good Room nice Staff good

Review 79:Location. Cheap parking right outside hotel.

Review 80:everything, this was our third visit and it is still a wonderful place to stay

Review 81:No air con.

Review 82:Location. Cute rooms. Good value for money and friendly staff.

Review 83:A big room

Review 84:Car parking was a problem when the square in front of the hotel was shutoff for festivals etc. Worth checking what is on before booking.

Review 85:View of the Loire from the bedroom. The room itself was light and airy - good soundproofing and well equipped with comfortable bed.

Review 86:no lift. narrow stairs.

Review 87:the reception staff, particularly the one who was on duty in the mornings when we were there. a really helpful, cheerful charmer.

Review 88:Parking is on public square outside hotel and might be busy/full.

Review 89:Excellent location when touring France & Loire Valley, with first rate kitchen. A regular stopping point for us.

Review 90:.......No lift! Stairs were steep and poorly lit

Review 91:Ideally situated overlooking the Loire river. Close to shops/bars/restaurants etc. The hotel restaurant was very good and reasonably priced. The weather was wonderful for early March.

Review 92:Central spot overlooking the Loire River, very decent restaurant. Lovely big room in the annex, with a balcony overlooking the Loire, but reached by a steep and rather dark staircase.

Review 93:Not enough drawer space for clothes in the room.

Review 94:Excellent location with many cafes and restaurants within a short walk. Comfortable room with view of the Loire.

Review 95:Wish I'd read the previous review about the hairdryer as I expectedone in the room and was disapointed.

Review 96:Very friendly and helpful staff and a good restaurant which we werelucky enough to sit outside of on a night in October. Very goodlocation. If you want an original old hotel right in the centre this isthe one to go for.

Review 97:Stairs a little challenging to the second floor with luggage.

Review 98:The room had a fantastic view of the Loire from two large windows. Good food in the restaurant. Free parking and cycle shop nearby.

Review 99:There isn't a lift but that added to the character

Review 100:A lovely quirky hotel in a fantastic position close to all the points of interest. The restaurant was reasonable and the food was delicious.Very friendly ,courteous and helpful staff

Review 101:Nothing to dislike

Review 102:I was lucky enough to have a room with a view over the beautiful river Loire, with the bridge illuminated at night and the general beauty of Saumur on display. We booked at the last minute, so we didn't have much of a choice of rooms so, unfortunately, my friend got a room at the back of the hotel - which, although very comfortable, had a far less inspiring view (I would like to say, in my defence, that she lives in France and volunteered to take the short straw, being more able to visit Saumur on a regular basis than I!)However, this is what you must expect if you want to stay in an original building in a old town; nothing is perfect and so if you want a spectactular view out over the Loire, it would be best to specify that.We were only staying one night as we were en route to another location in France, but I know Saumur pretty well and picked the hotel mainly for its very central location (you can walk to anywhere in the town from there) and the fact that it had parking outside. It is not free, but it is incredibly cheap - and after (if I recall correctly) 7pm, it's free until 9am the next day anyway. It's also free for 2 hours during the lunch break. There is no lift at the hotel as it is a genuinely old building - which is why it is so attractive and in the heart of town - but if you have difficulty with stairs, that might be something to consider. The lady of the couple who own the hotel helped us with our cases up to our rooms, but we decided to bring them down for ourselves the next day. However, both she and her husband were very friendly and willing to help, so if you're less able-bodied than us, that shouldn't be an issue.I also asked for a hairdryer, which was promptly offered, so if you can't find one in your room, don't fret - you can borrow one!We didn't have dinner at the hotel, but we thoroughly enjoyed the breakfast, which had lots of choice and an array of fresh fruits, yoghurts, teas, coffees, etc.

Review 103:We were put in rooms on the third floor which was quite a climb.

Review 104:The hotel was very well situated right in the town centre, and was veryclean. The receptionist spoke very good English!

Review 105:As mentioned in a previous review, we wondered about the stairs problem but don't know what the fuss is about - we are both in our mid-60's and didn't find the stairs at all difficult. Anyway, the very helpful manager insisted with helping with luggage. There is plenty of public parking at very little cost immediately outside the hotel and the location is ideal for exploring the centre of Saumur on foot. The food in the hotel is perfectly adequate - as in any Logis - and there are plenty of other eating options just behind in the Place St. Pierre. We found the staff very friendly and the cost of accommodation and food is very reasonable for a city-centre hotel in the Loire region. Our first-floor room to the front was really nicely decorated also.

Review 106:Climbing sixty stairs to our room! We shall stay there again, but ask for a bedroom on a lower floor.

Review 107:Location, friendly, helpful staff.Secure garage storage for our bicycles. Excellent, good value food in hotel restaurant. Near the town centre and views of the river.

Review 108:We really enjoyed our stay here, the staff were very friendly, warm and helpful, the hotel was clean and the breakfasts were good also. Location wise it was perfect and situated near the town centre near the river. Very good value for money.

Review 109:The original room was 50 + steps up a fairly tight spiral staicase. Room was pleasant but 'Loire view' was limited (out of a high small window). An alternative was offered but only at a supplement.

Review 110:beds incredibly hard and noise from electrical equipment through the night. Bathroom very small but just adequate

Review 111:staff very helpful and restaurant good

Review 112:There was no lift and for my wife stairs are very difficult, and we were on the second floor.

Review 113:It was warm and the staff were friendly, the meals excellent.

Review 114:food only average. restaurant staff totally disorganised. forgot our wine order, forgot to bring water we requested, forgot the menu we had ordered from, left service until quite late and were clearing up around us, developed an attitude towards us as their own organisation issues seemed to have become for them our fault, especially as they not only kept us waiting but also made themselves late. they spoiled our dinner and evening.

Review 115:reception staff good, room ok

Review 116:Parking is on public car parks and can be busy at certain dates/times.

Review 117:Hotel has excellent location on banks of River Loire in centre of city, just 10minutes walk from the famous castle. It is well placed for visiting the Loire and its many attractions. The hotel has an excellent kitchen/dining room; excellent food. This was our 3rd visit.

Review 118:The bathroom was very small but clean.

Review 119:The location of the hotel was very close to all amenities and the restaurant was excellent with good food and service. The Receptionists were very helpful and showed us to the garage personally so we were able to park our motorcycles. I would certainly come back and bring my wife. use this hotel again.

Review 120:We would have liked a room with a view over the river - or to know that we weren't going to have one. The photo shown on the website when we booked suggested that we would have a view, but this wasn't the room we were allocated. The wifi worked spasmodically only.

Review 121:Great location. Friendly staff. Good standard of cleanliness.

Review 122:Small room, big step down into bathroom, shower cream dispenser ineffective, no air con. meal not up to 2 pot logis standard and they fogot our deserts.

Review 123:Not a problem for us but no lift...a long way up 2 or 3 flights ofstairs carrying suitcases would be a problem for less able travellers.Very hot with no a/c but quiet enough to open bedroom windows.

Review 124:We have stayed here twice now and will certainly return as the hotel iscentrally located with easy (payable) parking outside. The rooms arebasic as expected for the price but clean and comfortable. Perfectlocation for exploring Saumur and the Loire Valley. Fantastic range ofrestaurants and shops all within 5 minutes walk. Hotel breakfast isbasic for the additional charge.

Review 125:Cheap sheets. Also suggest you don't have breakfast but go round thecorner for cheaper and better one.

Review 126:The position over the Loire is great. Staff were friendly.

Review 127:Hardly a criticism but a picture on the bedroom wall would have been nice. A view of the chateau perhaps.

Review 128:A room with a view. The staff kindly gqave us a room looking over the square and with a view of the river and the old bridge which was illuminated at night. We were right in the centre of the town with the chateau just a short walk away. The staff were extremely friendly and we felt as if we we were very welcomer there. There is a restaurant and bar on the ground floor so everything we wanted was at hand.
