Reviews for Hôtel de Toiras
Review 1:Old, historic building but the mix of dark, antique furniture in the suite - mainly in the lounge area - gave the room a rather gloomy feel.
Review 2:The staff - so friendly, warm and helpful. The location is very convenient and although the suite had no view it overlooked a lovely courtyard. It exuded a comfy, intimate atmosphere.
Review 3:Staff defines impeccable service at this exquisite property. very good food in a lovely intimate restaurant setting overlooking charming garden. Room was beautifully furnished with lovely welcoming personalized note and fruit plate. Remarkable facility and great experience. Highly recommend.
Review 4:Nothing really; could do with a couple of bottles of water in the room but that didn't reduce the 10 score for us
Review 5:Very comfortable and luxurious hotel, picturesque location; beautiful and tastefully designed rooms and lobby; very friendly and knowledge staff; first class service. We couldn't fault it and would certainly like to come back
Review 6:The room was far too hot and stuffy Shame the restaurant menu was expensive, during our stay the restaurant was always empty.
Review 7:The staff added a very personal touch and could not have been more helpful.
Review 8:What they didn't tell us was that the chef was taking two days off - exactly the ones we had booked for. So the restaurant was closed. That was a real shame as it was one of the main reasons we booked... They could have told us...! But did give us a good upgrade.
Review 9:Very well positioned friendly hotel. The one to go for in St Martin.
Review 10:The hotel was beautifully decorated and furnished and in the best location. The staff were very welcoming and extremely helpful. One of the best hotels we have ever stayed in for customer service.
Review 11:The room was approached through the tiny garden area and up a flight of narrow wooden stairs perhaps 20; another flight upwards to reach other rooms. This could have been a problem if heart troubles or disabled and was not mentioned to our knowledge upon booking. There was a lift in the main area. However, this was not a problem for us but coukd be for some: this approach to a charming room regrettably removed a star for me making it 4 stars. Aircon, although it worked, it could have been a tad cooler as the room got very stuffy during the night; it was fixed to a certain degree. VERY expensive breakfast for what it was: served at the table as no room in the small eatery for a good buffet. The actual breakfast however, was fine and served with a smile. A kettle in the room for tea/coffee later in the day would have been helpful as no normal bar facility. So definitely 4 stars in our long experience of hotels: we do realise that because of the age of the hotel there are certain limitations.
Review 12:The charming property is in an excellent location: very quiet even though on harbour side. Room 17 is large with sitting area. A good large bathroom with bath & separate shower area & separate. WC. Breakfast was up to lunchtime as no lunches served. Valet parking as the parking was 10 mins walk away. The staff were polite, attentive and friendly.
Review 13:The air conditioning was faulty but luckily the temperature was in the low - mid 20s - it was nice to have a sea breeze in the room at night.
Review 14:We had a beautiful suite, tastefully furnished and decorated overlooking the harbour. Facilities at the sister hotel were excellent too. Staff were extremely helpful, knowledgable and friendly. We didn't dine at the hotel, but staff made dinner reservations for us at local restaurants each evening.
Review 15:We were surprised and delighted to have such a large and well furnished room and with an amazing view of the harbour. the staff were always smiling, helpful and completely delightful.
Review 16:Plumbing was playing up in our room , it made horrendous noises and aromas in the middle of one night. The staff were very apologetic and the plumber was called and rectified it
Review 17:Superb location . Bedroom overlooked the bustling harbour. Use of swimming pool at villa Clarisse was a huge bonus
Review 18:Superb attention from impeccably trained staff who genuinely cared and went the extra mile to make sure your stay was all you could wish. The Toiras is in the very heart of St. Martin right on the harbour and yet is a cool oasis of perfection in which you can relax and be pampered.
Review 19:There was nothing I didn't like about it. I wish the swimming pool had been in the hotel.
Review 20:Love the hotel. The staff were excellent we didn't want for nothing I would highly recommend it.
Review 21:It was fine, but I didn't realise that the pool was not based at the actual hotel, but at the sister hotel around the corner.
Review 22:Staff were fantastic, nothing was too much trouble. Amazing views.
Review 23:Expensive breakfast and seriously outdated decor which was not to 5 star standard. Very overpriced for what it is and trading on its name.
Review 24:Staff very friendly and helpful
Review 25:Nothing.
Review 26:Excellent location. Valet parking (at a fee). Beautifully decorated, the photographs do not do it justice. The staff were accommodating and friendly at all times.
Review 27:Over-priced for what you get. Lovely hotel, very attentive staff, but in my opinion, not 5 star. We found the meals too expensive to try so cannot comment on them.
Review 28:Perfect location. This is a small boutique hotel in the centre of St Martin-de-Re. It is spotlessly clean and the staff are very attentive.
Review 29:The staff were attentive without being intrusive. They were knowledgeable about the local area & bi lingual, which was a great help. The manager took the time to speak to his guests & for all the staff nothing was too much trouble. Great location too!
Review 30:Nothing
Review 31:Wonderful staff members, warm and genuine. They are truly dedicated to ensuring that you have a pleasant time in Saint Martin. Breakfast Chef cooks the best egg white omelettes in France.
Review 32:The staff were so kind and attentive even before we arrived ringing to arrange dinner reservations as they were worried the Island would be busy when we arrived they upgraded us to a beautiful room and were so helpful throughout our stay
Review 33:Had a magical stay. The hotel is beautiful and elegant. The staff were wonderful - service at its best. Helpful and friendly and at your beck and call. A special mention to Dominic - a true gentleman.
Review 34:although the hotel has a prime location on the quayside this means that the only lounge space is at reception and there is very limited outdoor space.
Review 35:The service we were given by fantastic staff was exemplary. The room was very luxurious and serviced several times each day.
Review 36:Very much a tourist trap that I can only imagine is chaotic in the summer - only the Hotel de Toiras could make it an option for us.
Review 37:The location of the hotel is perfect - overlooking the harbour. We were fortunate to be there out of season enjoying some good weather. The decor throughout the hotel is charming. The food is outstanding - the staff are excellent particularly Caroline.
Review 38:The fact that we were not aware that Villa Clarisse would close at the end of September and after that date we could not access the pool.
Review 39:All the staff are so competent and helpful. The location was perfect so central and yet so calm.
Review 40:Absolutely nothing!
Review 41:Excellent welcome, very friendly and helpful staff - nothing too much trouble. Unexpected room upgrade was a real treat and bonus. Very well appointed room, nice toiletries and well stocked mini bar (though we didn't use this). Sorry our stay was only one night. Also perfect location overlooking the harbour in the beautiful town of St Martin de Re.
Review 42:No proper shower in room - shower head with bath. No traffic zone made it difficult to get to hotel - shoudl warn guests abotu this in advacne. Pool at separate hotel.
Review 43:Very comfortable. Very helpful staff. excellent location near lots of restaurants, bars and the quayside.
Review 44:A shade expensive. Had to walk to pool as not on site -but not far away.
Review 45:Great service. Super breakfast. Lovely soft white towels and robes. Sky tv. Nice pool at sister hotel. Charm and character. Take staff recommendations for restaurants when dining out. Staff make every effort to please. Lovely Limoges. Charming decor.
Review 46:I booked an expensive room and the bathroom was up narrow stairs. There was a toilet at the same level but it did not have a wash basin - very inconvenient, had to go up the stairs, turning lights on at night after going to toilet. Too many staff with nothing to do but be over-attentive. I did not find this luxurious, it was intrusive and the opposite of relaxing. It was an expensive hotel and they charged extra for breakfast! I booked B&B. This is unbelievable! I don't mind paying for a quality hotel but adding in extra costs if very poor.
Review 47:Location excellent Style of hotel is nice Room was nice apart from the bathroom arrangement
Review 48:Inferior to other Relais & Chateaux we have been to for: bathroom (no shower), coffee machine (none in the room), TV set (21" only?).
Review 49:The staff was very kind, attentive and efficient. Location, building style and decoration are just great!
Review 50:There was an unpleasant smell at some points in the day. Nothing to do with the hotel but a sewage smell that drifted up from the streets.
Review 51:This hotel has an unbeatable location, delightful staff and a fantastic restaraunt.
Review 52:This hotel exceeded all our expectations from the minute we arrived. The reception staff were very welcoming and well informed ,nothing was too much trouble .We received excellent suggestions for lunch in the nearby restaurants .Our room was amazing, beautiful stylish French décor with luxury bathroom and all amenities and overlooked the beautiful port. You are given a code to access the valet parking which keeps the small town almost car free. The pool at the nearby Villa Clarisse was a hidden gym in a walled Garden .The location is perfect ,close to restaurants ,shops and the small night market. We were on a short break from our holiday campsite and we could not have picked a better location or hotel .Again breakfast in the walled courtyard was very special .We are not that mature a couple 45-50 ! We intend to return to this beautiful island and hotel.
Review 53:We booked a deluxe room at €360 a night. We found it to be small, dark and without any view at all. The hotel lists that it has an outdoor pool, however this is a 10 minute walk away at a small sister hotel. The breakfasts were very expensive. The fact that we were at the hotel on our honeymoon wasn't acknowledged by any of the staff, which was a little disappointing.
Review 54:The staff were all incredibly attentive. The hotel is ideally located right in the middle of St Martin de Re. The staff recommended three places to eat, all of which were fantastic.
Review 55:There was a bad smell in our room when we arrived back from our evening out which the hotel explained was a very rare occurance in our room due to the very unusual tide that day. They couldn't change our room as hotel was full but they offered a good discount on the bill.
Review 56:Stunning historical building set in the perfect location at the port. Hotel bedroom was beautifully finished and fabulous. Staff were truly wonderful and professional.
Review 57:Nothing to not like but would've liked some outside space to sit and enjoy a drink, the courtyard was very small and mainly used for external dining.
Review 58:The location, lovely, friendly staff, comfort of the bedroom, cleanliness and turn down service at night.
Review 59:The noise of the"empty bottle" lorry rumbling past our window at 4am!!
Review 60:The friendliness of the management and the most delicious food!
Review 61:attitude of staff and quality of food
Review 62:Breakfast service was slow. Breakfast poor value.
Review 63:Beautiful building, well furnished with comfortable bedrooms. Lovely, helpful staff.
Review 64:Staff was very accomadating. While some rooms have poor cell service they moved me where I could work Pierre was very accomadating to my needs
Review 65:Beautiful rooms, in a wonderful setting. Staff very helpful.
Review 66:Beautiful room and excellent staff
Review 67:Staff wonderful and friendly. so helpful. wanted to stay longer. will definately return
Review 68:The staff and service
Review 69:friendly and helpful staff. excellent room and garden
Review 70:The staff were very helpful and friendly The little garden
Review 71:The staff were wonderful and our room was excellent
Review 72:The fact that it is easy to spend the day bicycling round the island having picnics on almost deserted beaches. Very good seafood restaurants.
Review 73:Atmosphere in the hotel and friendliness of all staff.
Review 74:The dinner ,the food was tasteless and old fashioned catering.
Review 75:Breakfast was very good
Review 76:Nothing!
Review 77:Comfortable, massive bed Shower Views Location Decor
Review 78:Service in restaurent slow
Review 79:Decoration. Staff. food.
Review 80:Nothing at all.
Review 81:The sensational location, the excellent staff, the food, and our room. Pretty well everything really.
Review 82:Everything, the location, the room
Review 83:Not happy with first room but moved us to a much lighter comfortable second room . Very impressive lady manager All staff helpful ,great service!!
Review 84:Hotel facilities lacking. Very expensive breakfast
Review 85:Hotel nicely positioned on the harbour. Friendly and helpful staff
Review 86:Really exceptional service made us feel comfortable at all times.
Review 87:Expensive breakfast
Review 88:Excellent location
Review 89:nowhere to sit and relax outside. No private terrace area outside.
Review 90:staff very friendly
Review 91:For us the general style of the hotel felt 'old fashioned' though people will love it, it was not for us. Our toilet didn't flush.
Review 92:Wonderful location and very friendly and helpful staff made it all feel so effortless.
Review 93:Nothing that we didn't like. We probably would have preferred a shower rather than a bath but this might have minimised the overall quaint French experience.
Review 94:Superb staff. Extremely friendly and helpful. The ambience of the hotel was wonderful. Having breakfast in the small gardened courtyard was lovely. The location was superb. Walk outside and the harbour greets you along with a plethora of excellent restaurants, shops and bicycle hire.
Review 95:As a returning customer I was remembered and well received. Given same room that we had admired previously. Both manager and staff could not have been more helpful
Review 96:It wasn't possible to control the temperature in the room, so we slept with the French doors open. We stayed in a deluxe room, but there was only a bath and no shower. The bathroom was open to the bedroom with only curtain screening.
Review 97:We liked it's location within the port/island. Staff were welcoming, helpful and friendly.
Review 98:Excellent staff who were friendly and helpful. Bedroom and public rooms were well presented, clean and comfortable. Off site valet parking was efficient. The chef will cook your own food if required.
Review 99:Sadly unless you have the most expensive rooms, there is no harbour view, but internal courtyard very pretty in summer.
Review 100:Fantastic location for St Martin. I would go back, but possibly to Villa Clarisse which has the pool and more outside space and is slightly less expensive!
Review 101:Expensive but good location
Review 102:Hotel is situated perfectly for the port and to be able to use the many cycle paths on the island. The staff were very helpful.
Review 103:No lift, narrow wooden staircase , considering 5* classification, this was unacceptable. Restaurant very small, had to reserve table 2 days in advance. Quality of food average e.g. asked for lamb to be rose, but came medium.Extremely expensive for the facilities offered and the standard of service. very small, had to table 2 days in advance
Review 104:The location was excellent, situated in the centre , our bedroom looked directly over the port. Large ,lavish bedroom.
Review 105:Mezzanine bathroom - not advised about this at time of reservation. Advertising mis-leading re. swimming pool as this facility is in "sister" hotel, quite a walk away.
Review 106:Lovely harbourside location. Very helpful staff. Pleasant, quirky room but "open" bathroom not ideal.
Review 107:Would have loved to stay longer
Review 108:Hotel De Toiras is a beautiful hotel in a great location accessible to local restaurants, shopping and central for cycling or touring the island. The staff in the hotel were exceptional and live up to 5 star service. The atmosphere was calm and relaxing. Breakfast was always enjoyable with waiter service and dinner on the 2 occasions we booked during our stay were the highest standard we experienced during our week in St Martin
Review 109:Very small restaurant was already fully booked on arrival.
Review 110:Very comfortable bed. Very helpful staff who booked local restaurants and suggested walks. Spoke English well. Pleasant courtyard garden. Located right on the portside.
Review 111:There was no Spa or pool, which one would expect in a 5 star hotel.
Review 112:The staff were absolutely charming, and couldn't do enough to make our stay special. Also the hotel is really beautiful and very very comfortable, in a fantastic location. Really had a wonderful time there, and did not want to leave. Excellent hotel, and one I would definitely return to.
Review 113:We did not like the difficulty of access to the Hotel resulting from newtraffic restrictions imposed during "holiday" periods whichhave had a major impact on the town. We had to park some distance fromthe Hotel and walk into town just to find out what new procedures wereinvolved. Some mention needs to be made, somewhere, that this problemexists although it is not of the Hotel's making. When access isfinally gained, valet parking for cars is available at the hotel'ssister site but this requires a somewhat "clunky" procedurewhereby staff walk around to the other establishment to bring yourvehicle back to the hotel. If they are otherwise engaged, matters maynot be handled as promptly as they could be, so allow sufficient time ifgoing to the airport! Wi-Fi is available at the Hotel, but coverageneeds to to be extended, without the need for "connections "to be installed on an individual basis as in some rooms. We would advisethat travellers pay particular attention to the French"Departement" regional / school holidays which can extendover several weeks in rotation. Information is available on the Internetand you can avert any periods when St Martin can be overwhelmed byvisitors. The queue for the ice cream can block the road!
Review 114:Superb location right in the centre of St Martin. Although this meant itcould be quite busy and noisy outside, at times, the rooms themselveswere quiet and restful, overlooking the central garden. Due to workbeing undertaken on the roof above our intended rooms, the helpful, efficient and discrete staff upgraded both rooms without mentioning thefact. We all enjoyed the upgrades and especially the very comfortablebeds that came with them!.
Review 115:The restaurant was rather formal and relatively expensive compared to some of the better local ones.
Review 116:The position, the decoration but mostly the people who ran it.
Review 117:The breakfast is over priced and not very good. Had breakfast near by on second day for €9.50 whereas it was €22 in the Hotel.
Review 118:Excellent location and very helpful and friendly staff
Review 119:The design and decor are absolutely first-class, beautifully thought out. The ambience reflects charm and character. The staff are superb, warm, friendly, helpful, professional. They make the hotel what it is. Food and wines top notch. Bedrooms spacious, well-equipped, very comfortable beds. the finest hotel we have stayed in for years, possibly ever.
Review 120:The fact that guests are allowed at 3 am to talk loudly outside in the tiny courtyard when you are trying to sleep! The swimming pool while in a lovely setting is more than a ''Stones throw away''!!The dinning room is VERY small for a five star gourmet hotel.
Review 121:The staff were incredibly helpful and thoughtful. The room was beautiful.
Review 122:Room in category "Superior Double Room' is one room including bedroom and the bathroom is in the same room separated only with the curtain which is not very convenient. Plus it is wet in the room with a little bad smell. The description "this room has direct access to the garden" does not reflect the reality - it is wet in the room with a bathroom smell you can not open the window because the window is facing directly the breakfast tables which are 2 meters far from the room. The staff is extremely willing to help but absolutely unable to. Breakfast is served for extremely long time and you have to wait for a table to be dressed up etc though there is absolutely no choice and I think it is possible to prepare tables in advance. The restaurant is not worth it's money.
Review 123:A great location to explore the island (if you find anything to be explored there). Nice hotel to stay for a weekend.
Review 124:It is important to clearly specify that you wish to stay in the main hotel, because there is a sister hotel further away that is used to house guests when it is busy - and this is not always made clear on booking.com
Review 125:The position of the hotel - next to the port in St Martin de Ré - made it easy to enjoy this lovely town. The staff were superb, and the bed in our room was the most comfortable I think I have ever slept in. The dinner in the intimate restaurant was freshly prepared by the chef - really superb. We felt as if we had stepped into another world of luxury and comfort.
