Reviews for Hotel et Residence Chez Gino
Review 1:The mattress wasn't wonderful, the bathroom / toilet had only a curtain, not a real door, and one of the electrical outlets was not properly fixed in the wall. Not a problem for adults, but wouldn't want to have small children staying.
Review 2:Staff was friendly, location was great, stay was quiet and private, price very reasonable, kitchen was well equipped, enjoyable stay.
Review 3:There's nothing we didn't like but the rooms are functional in case you expect anything fancy (i.e. no frills)
Review 4:The owner is really nice and helpful. The location is really good for Le Toquet and other places, corner Le Carre for food, and local main street. Also lots of genuinely fresh fish available. Secure parking. We have stayed twice and would return. Good if you want to make your own meals.
Review 5:Toilet/Bathroom didn't have a door - just a curtain. Not much privacy as it was part of the Bedroom.
Review 6:We had the separate garden apartment which was great as we had our dog with us. Excellent secure parking. Nice big TV. !! Kitchen well equipped.
Review 7:couldnt figure out all the buttons in the shower etc.
Review 8:easy to get to and well located in the town.it was a comfortable room with all the mod cons etc.clean and cosy.
Review 9:Excellent location, secure parking, shops, bars and restaurants in walking distance. Apartment was very clean, comfortable and well-equipped.Fresh towels provided every day. Our two dogs enjoyed lazing in the sun in the lovely garden . Thank you from Tony, Brenda,Caesar & Lottie
Review 10:This was supposed to be an apartment, when you opened the door you went straight into bedroom with 2 beds, with a very very small ketchenetre off to the side with no windows and an even smaller toilet with a shower in it, again with no windows!!! How anyone can say this is an apartment is beyond me!!! We was right by reception with a seating area right outside our room so whenever we opened the curtains for the only windows we had ( looking straight into our bedroom) everybody just looked in so we spent a week with no natural light in semi darkness.... Fantastic!!! Not !!!
Review 11:Nothing
Review 12:Wifi could have been easier to connect and stronger. Bed little old and dipped in the middle a bit. Bathroom lacks ventilation was like a sauna in there.
Review 13:Easy to find. Helpful and polite staff. Parking available off street so you don't really need to pay for the secured car park. Location great. Didn't explore etaples but went into le touquet which was lovely. Room was large and we'll equipped for the price. Little bit tired could do with a few homely touches. TV was working but channels all french obviously. Nice for a cheap getaway. Our room had a lovely skylight we could see the stars as we went off to sleep... lovely.
Review 14:Realise they have to use mattress protectors for hygiene but type used could have been more comfortable. Could not get wi-fi even with hosts help this was a 1 off for us as everywhere else it has been ok but that is something one can do without.
Review 15:Gino was very helpful very secure parking and very convenient for shops restaurants. Couldn't have wished for nicer hosts.
Review 16:A grat little hotel/B&B in the old part of Etaples close to the river and within walking distance of the best restaurants and the town square for the twice weekly markets. There is off street secure parking which is an added bonus best to reserve a space when booking
Review 17:Great place, full of character. Good facilities and 24 hour automated check in if needed. Only a 40 minute drive from Calais, so a really handy stop over to or from the port, in a lovely little seaside village.
Review 18:No negatives whatever
Review 19:Secure parking Spacious rooms Comfortable bed and sofa Excellent shower/bathroom facilities Helpful staff Great location near main attractions
Review 20:Breakfast was poor quality and limited choice - no meats or fresh fruit for example. Room was small with barely adequate furniture and lighting. Double bed was small and dipped in the middle. No plug in wash basin (though one provided when I asked).
Review 21:Location - very close to town centre and lots of places to eat. Staff (parents of the owner, I think) who were very friendly and helpful. On-site secure parking. Fridge and microwave in room.
Review 22:Gino was lovely - very cheerful and helpful. Breakfast much better than I expected for the price.
Review 23:Etaples not the nicest place I have been to in france.
Review 24:Fantastic value for money, great bathroom and projector TV in bedroom.
Review 25:We were given a larger room then we booked . The manager was very helpful .
Review 26:Great location, friendly staff, lovely well equipped room
Review 27:Handy location near Le Touquet. Quiet and friendly. Coffee and snack machine useful if you arrive late as no late opening shops nearby
Review 28:none
Review 29:location, cleanliness, value, staff
Review 30:No door on bathroom. All rather "tired". Needs updating. Etaples isn't very interesting.
Review 31:Clean. Friendly manager.
Review 32:The shower room needs to be changed so the shower doesn't make the bathroom wet .
Review 33:Spacious room and the breakfast was really great.
Review 34:Freezing cold fruit salad
Review 35:Breakfast
Review 36:Nice little self catering cottage in lovely working fishing town.
Review 37:Gino!
Review 38:Warmth in the room Blackout curtains
Review 39:quiet - clean and good parking , very cental
Review 40:Very hot room.
Review 41:WiFi Friendly, helpful staff Location
Review 42:The Owner was extremely hospitable buy opening breakfast an hour earlier for us, so that we could catch an early tunnel crossing. Breakfast was varied and excellent, great value.
Review 43:The owners' dogs can be noisy.
Review 44:The hotel is very well placed in the centre of town. The rooms are not 'standard' but all have their own character.
Review 45:Having to hold the shower head while in the shower was quite tricky. Would be nice to have a holder mounted on the wall.
Review 46:The large apartment was nice to have with a large family.
Review 47:We are used to a king sized bed so unless we have twin beds, we find normal sized doubles uncomfortable.
Review 48:The staff once again were very cheerful and attentive. Relaxed atmosphere but slick and professional service. Shower piping hot brilliant.
Review 49:A very friendly and efficiently run hotel. A charming place and the studio was well equipped and comfortable. The price was very fair. Would recommend anyone to go there.
Review 50:Decour is tired. Insufficient crockery and glasses. Would make self catering tiresome for more than a night or two. Did visit 2 years ago and apartment was very well equipped. Standard appears to have slipped.
Review 51:Space, location and secure parking
Review 52:On arrival no offer to carry bags Room and shower room tired, in need of redecoration On return from dinner (only 9pm) reception had closed so could not access wifi code Returning to room. no overhead light just 2 bedside lights one of which had no bulb in it. No telephone in room and a closed reception so couldn't read or use computer By the time you paid for breakfast and parking rate almost €100. VERY poor value. I cannot understand how this had an 8+ rating on booking.com
Review 53:Good secure parking
Review 54:It is amongst the worse places we have ever stayed. Do not book here. We don't understand how the other reviews can relate to the same place we had the misfortune of staying at. We left after one night of four and are currently fighting to have the remaining nights refunded on the basis that the room did not match the advertised description (see below - no wifi, no working shower, dangerous bathroom, broken wardrobe, bad room security). Main problems with this run-down motel: 1) The owner-manager is the very worst types of hotelier (resentful of his job/business and customers, sarcastic, unhelpful, takes pleasure in saying no - think Basil Fawlty but short and with French sarcasm), 2) The description on booking.com is inaccurate and (I believe) intentionally misleading, 3) The quality of the rooms reflects an attitude of "I"ll fix that broken thing only after enough guests complain, and then only if I really have to"), and 4) He appears to use the breakfasting room as some sort of SEX SHOP in the evenings (I'm not kidding - there is a really big sign above it, visible from the street, calling it "Obsexion" with some lewd sub-text). I hope we can save someone else the misfortune of booking here on the basis of the ads and other (inexplicable, irreconcilable) reviews here and elsewhere. Happy travels.
Review 55:Sorry but there is very little we found to like about this motel (not a hotel), it's staff, or the location.
Review 56:The outside steps to the room but having said that we would definately go there again.
Review 57:The room ,the bed,the tea and coffee making was exellent Gino was friendly and helpful and the terrace was lovely and the gardens to sit in,The price exellent also a very good breakfast.
Review 58:If you are travelling with a Dog ( which they accept) book the ground floor self contained flat, since the upstair one has to difficult set of steps to climb
Review 59:The self contained flat was well presented with usefull cooking impliments
Review 60:nothing to be honest.
Review 61:A very enjoyable stay, the hotel was clean, well appointed and excellent value for money. The owner was very helpful and friendly and his english was considerably better than my school boy French. Our room overlooked a lovely garden and we had access to a large and secure carpark. The hotel is a short walk from the main town square and the harbour, excellently located.
Review 62:Downside was that the only access to le touquet is by a bridge which suffers bad jams.
Review 63:Very unusual, slightly quirky...well it is France. Handy for Le Touquet without the price and crowds. cosy and secluded garden.very friendly staff, secure car park adjacent.quiet location.very good restaurant nearby at the fish dock area.
Review 64:no-one available to check us out
Review 65:The welcome was very friendly and the staff support was great and the few questions we had were answered immediately - there was a range of superb restaurants within walking distance and the parking facilities were convenient and secure
Review 66:Electric hob slightly awkward if used to gas
Review 67:Cosy apartment; living area with sofa, table/chairs, tv & mini-kitchen; nice bedroom with tv; private parking; quiet; handy for the town centre and Le Touquet
Review 68:The room smelt damp, it could have been aired. Also the shower wasvery small and there was no place to hang any shower gel orshampoo....also, this is the first hotel I have been in where notoileteries were provided.
Review 69:Great location.
Review 70:Basic facilities in the room. Smoke smell despite no smoking room.
Review 71:Keenly priced. Clean. Access controlled parking. Slept 3 people in a small apartment including kitchen
Review 72:Friendly reception. Secure parking, Quiet location near to shops andrestaurants, Good sized comfortable room with quirky décor which makesa pleasant change from the many 2-star chain hotels we regularly use inFrance. A good self-service French breakfast in immaculately cleansurroundings. Wide range of room types. Very high standard for a 2-star hotel.
Review 73:Only thing for us was we happened to stay when the big local fete(Ducasse) was being held and the whole village square and surrounding streets were filled with fun fair stalls. It didn't really affect us though for one night. Couldn't hear anything inside, which surprised us. Can't really count it as a negative on the hotel.
Review 74:Good budget friendly accomodation. Booked two rooms -one double one apartment for family trip. Both basic but clean and as you would expect for budget price. Apartment was equipped well with hob, microwave, washing machine, fridge etc.
Review 75:Stayed at the hotel 4 years ago and was equally as pleased this time round. Stayed in 2 bed apartment had all the facilites needed to make our stay enjoyable. Room cleanliness excellent and towels changed daily or as needed. Also free wifi was excellent value money. Beautiful beaches nearby.
Review 76:My wife and I are not keen on animals, but a number are resident, (they belong to the owner). However they were generally well behaved, apart from a cat which jumped through an open window into our bedroom in the middle of the night! Not a big problem, only be put off is terrified of small animals!
Review 77:Secure car park, buffet breakfast, generally not noisy. The location was good for my purposes.
Review 78:We stayed 7 nights and would have liked the sheets to be changed once during the stay. The kitchenette is not really equipped enough to cook a meal. There was no saucepan and only 2 knives but it was fine for breakfast, salads or sandwiches. There were no chair to sit on to watch TV at night. We will return when in the area but will choose a 2 people apartment.
Review 79:Excellent location near many beaches and places to visit. The studio allowed us to have breakfast/snacks when needed. It was nice to have the room cleaned and towels changed as in a hotel. We slept well as the room was very quiet. The private secure parking was a bonus. Good shower. Many good restaurants in the area.
Review 80:No shower curtain, but when towels are changed everyday and theapartment was cleaned it wasn't really an issue.
Review 81:Loved the warm welcome from the staff and the fact the 'kitchenette' wasactually a kitchen where we were able to cook several meals. The loungeand breakfast bar space was brilliant and free wifi was a bonus!
Review 82:Great room for a family. Well-equipped kitchen but oven was a bit smelly!Fantastic and spacious . Staff were discreet and not over-friendly .Information in the room was minimal but could be easily worked out . avery pleasant experience.
Review 83:The room was spacious and newly decorated but the neon lightning is notvery appealing. It seems as if the last touch in the rooms is yet to bedone, not a major issue though but kills a bit the atmosphere of therooms. The neighborhood is not so appealing, but luckily the hotelsticks out with its welcoming setup. One last point: the bed was aconstruction of a mattress on a a plank. That´s ok for a few nights butcan be stressful for one´s back after a while.
Review 84:The staff is very friendly and helpful (!) - to my experience not thatcommon in France - , the breakfast is compared to let´s say chain hotelsin France a very good one: decent price, good choice of beverages andfresh bread and vienoisseries. The hotel as such is definately a goodchoice if you need a solid base for trips into the surrounding areasalong the coast.
Review 85:We were offered a small attic room with roof window up 2 flights of stairs but asked to change. We took a larger room with 2 beds. The room was miserable with no view looking onto a dirty wall, the staircase leading up 1 flight was shabby and dark. The bathroom was70s style with "avacado bath" and no shower,we were given very small towels hand sized really to shower with. It is what is says I suppose 2 star, but the photos looked much better than it actually was, We wanted a cheaper few days holiday, but you get what you pay for I will be going3 or 4 star in future, but as I say the photos are misleading. It was not a room I looked forward to going back to sowe stayed out more than we usually would.
Review 86:The garden was lovely but as it was bad weather wecould not sit in it. The kitchen was well equipped and the room was clean. The town was ok and nearby Le Touquet.
Review 87:Somewhat noisy equipment running during the night from time to time.
Review 88:Proximity to my favourite restraunt "Aux Pecheurs D'Etaples" Cooking facilities in room Highly automated facilities Friendly Patron Secure Parking
Review 89:The only negatives was that they provided no information in the room, and therefore we couldn't use the Internet and one TV did not work and because reception is only open for a limited time we couldn't ask for any assistance until the following day.
Review 90:The apartments were great in terms of size. For a family having a reasonable sized living area is great. The car park was also useful as the streets in the area were rather crowded with cars.
Review 91:Small hand sized towels only in bathroom and no hair dryer.
Review 92:There was much to like about this hotel - quiet road, secure parking, lovely garden, good breakfast, nice rooms. Overall very good value.
Review 93:Stayed for a night, all was ok. Clean and close to the centre.

Review 99:No aircon that I could find.
Review 100:Gated car park. Excellent town-centre location.
Review 101:breakfast too expensive
Review 102:car parking-but you should not have to pay for this service
Review 103:Etaples isn't a particularly attractive town. I thought Chez Gino was a bit overpriced.
Review 104:Close to le Touquet. Good to have secure parking on site.
Review 105:Friendly staff and good value of facilities for that money.
Review 106:To be honest everything about the place was good. We only stayed one night en route, but could easily have stayed longer.
Review 107:Breakfast wasn't worth the extra 8 euro
Review 108:Extremely clean, rooms comfortable, parking available. Staff very friendly and helpful
Review 109:Was able to park our tandem securely. The place was clean. Great breakfast. Staff very friendly and understood Australian:-)
Review 110:Town was shut but lovely restaurant nearby
Review 111:Pet friendly with contained garden.
Review 112:Watch out for the one way system around the town which didn't showup on our gps!
Review 113:Good Location, Warm welcome, good shower, excellent wifi.
Review 114:minor maintenance shortcomings
Review 115:value for money

Review 121:Staff friendly and helpful. It's in a good location with private parking
Review 122:Functional
Review 123:Very friendly,helpful staff.good welcome.good breakfast.secureparking.inexpensive
