Review 1：Excellent value for money, friendly staff, comfortable bed, clean room and great location. This hotel is better than we expected, will stay here again.

Visit often to dine at Restaurant Les Pecheurs de Etaples which is situated above the fish market - upmarket dining but quite expensive. We also frequent Restaurant/bar Le Roulis, which is opposite, for the fish stew which is to die for!! Very good menu at reasonable prices. Etaples is convenient for visiting Le Touquet.

Review 51：The Escal is well located in the heart of Etaples - but on a side road little used by cars and accursed mopeds. It gives you an idea of what hotels in France used to be like, tranqui with a certain style without the cost (devoid of pretentiousness) that today's mass-produced hotels can only, at the very best, parody. Superb value, with comfortable bed, ideally sized bedroom. NB: Etaples is a real town, as opposed to Le Touquet-"Paris Plage" which is overpriced and infested with pretentious nouveau-petit-bourgeois French - no less than some English, pr--ks/-ettes. Also good museums and fine Office de Tourisme, compared to crappily inefficient one in Le Tutt.

Review 60：Great location for our overnight stopover after travelling up from the Vendee before getting an early tunnel crossing the following morning. The hotel is basic, clean, exactly what we needed. We stayed in the family room with 5 beds which was a great size. The hotel is right in the centre of lovely little Etaples which was only a 35 minute drive to the tunnel the following day. Would definitely stay here again when looking for overnight accomodation close to Calais. Close to the motorway - only 5 mins from the junction- but far enough away to be in the heart of a lovely little french town with bars and restauarnts a plenty. Our only problem was all these places were only serving food from 7pm and as we had 3 small children to feed and an early start the next morning we did end up venturing over the bridge to mcdonalds for an early dinner and a play on the play area! A sin I know but so handy and a great play for them all the let off steam after being trapped in the car all day on our long journey up north!

Review 70：I found the staff very friendly. With my little French, and the receptionists little English we got by. The hotel was imaculately clean and well presented. It is only a small hotel, but I was more than happy with our room. The hotel is central, but Etaples isn't a large town. We stopped off because it wasn't too far to get the Calais ferry the following morning. It isn't an expensive hotel, so don't expect the world. In my opinion much nicer than a large hotel chain. I would return to this hotel.

Review 71：The owner was as miserable as sin! I don't know if this is because we were English but my wife speaks fluent French having lived in France for a number of years. She just couldn't be bothered. We stayed with our two young children and at 8am we had a phone call complaining about the noise they were making. All they were doing was walking over the laminate floor!! The people in the 2nd floor room above were making significantly more noise throughout the night! Suffice it to say I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone. A pity to end our fantastic holiday with this poor stop-over.

However the room was very dated and didnot have a comfortable feel about it or look particularly clean.
