Reviews for Cavendish Hotel
Review 1:Although the room was comfortable, and clean, the carpet had seen better days, and the wall paper was peeling a little. Also when someone walked in the room above us, the light fitting in the bedroom ceiling rattled. The room had been described as an executive with sea view, and had we paid the full price, and not had the complimentary upgrade, we would have been disappointed.
Review 2:We chose this hotel based on the reviews we had read,it's position and traditional grand character. We stayed in room 120, having been given a complimentary upgrade to a sea view, which I would recommend. The bed was comfortable, and bathroom had recently been renovated, so was a pleasure to use. The toiletries and towels provided were excellent quality too. Coffee and tea making facilities, together with biscuits replenished daily was also very good. The lounge and library had plenty of comfortable chairs. The breakfast was certainly more than adequate. The staff in the hotel were all pleasant, and we felt very at home and enjoyed the 3 night break we had.
Review 3:Nothing bad although a slight lack of choice on the menu. The food we had was good though
Review 4:The common areas were very good, staff very friendly and hotel very well situated for the town and sea front
Review 5:Room was too hot and bar area rather soulless
Review 6:Excellent seafront location. Really helpful and friendly staff. very nice dinner and breakfast especially if you have a table by the window
Review 7:The connecting door to an adjoining room was not sound proof, therefor every sound made in either room was transmitted to the other. It would not be a massive investment to soundproof the door.
Review 8:The location and helpfulness of the staff, along with the general feeling of welcome experienced.
Review 9:The spa was one of the reason why we chosen this hotel, but it wasn't working, and nobody told us anything when we came.
Review 10:Very good location, the breakfast room has lovely views
Review 11:Double glazing in bedrooms was ineffective allowing cold drafts
Review 12:General ambience and cleanliness. The breakfasts were excellent, dining room staff were welcoming & attentive.
Review 13:The staff throughout the hotel were so polite, helpful and friendly. In particular, the staff on reception made us feel so welcome and couldn't do enough to assist us during our stay. An absolutely perfect place to stay - couldn't praise the hotel enough.
Review 14:Too hot! Had window open but overlooked generator so was noisy. Light fitting rattled every time someone walked above us!
Review 15:The hotel is lovely and staff were friendly and helpful. Good choice for breakfast.
Review 16:The hotel was much better than i expected for the price we paid! Clean, rooms were a good size, comfortable and the room service was lush! Great selection for breakfast and nice views out to the sea. Would certainly book again.
Review 17:Poor standard of cleanliness in room. Lumps of Tarmac? On carpet and table legs. Light bulbs missing. Nothing done after reporting to Maintenance and housekeeping staff
Review 18:Very little
Review 19:I think that if you are paying £9 for a cocktail then the bar stuff should be able to do it rather then asking you to do it i.e Bloody Mary!!
Review 20:The excellent value for money The food The spa
Review 21:unfortunately the room prices have recently increased to much to be our regular short break and are now enjoying trying the abundance of excellent hotels in eastbourne at far lower prices. Sorry Cavendish, or should i say Britania, but we will have to say goodbye
Review 22:staff and food and acomodation are always excellent
Review 23:housekeeping knocking on door at 8.30 when still in bed and have room till 11am, they should check with reception if guest has checked out
Review 24:a good car park , lots of room to sit in private and talk ,pleasant bar staff, reception need to have a little more welcome smile
Review 25:The spa was closed which was disappointing especially as we had no warning about this.
Review 26:The staff couldn't have been anymore helpful, even the cleaners! They were great. It's a stunning little gem.
Review 27:Double bed was not a double bed. It was what they call a zip bed, two singles with a double mattress topper. My side of the bed was terrible, I slept very badly even after a good drink. I kept on waking up because I could feel the springs of the single mattress through the mattress topper. My partners side of the bed was fine, she slept okay, though somewhat disturbed by me. We didn't have the breakfast so can't comment on that. The service was acceptable, nothing more, nothing less.
Review 28:Sea view was great, room was spotlessly clean.
Review 29:upstairs creakie floorboards.steak sandwhiches from bar menu very poor quality value for money.
Review 30:no reason to complain staff all friendly and polite. immaculate room with very comfortable beds.
Review 31:Excellent location, spacious room, good breakfast in seaview dining room. Bedroom/landing staff v.pleasant. Good service.Value for money. We would return
Review 32:the pillows they need to be softer
Review 33:lovely sea view room bed so comfy additional items in the bathroom and plenty of hot water food good perhaps a bit more choose in the bar area staff happy to help breakfast good and hot overall we enjoyed our short stay although we were there were there for a family funeral.
Review 34:Our room 130 had a inter-connecting door to the next room 131. We could hear every sound from that room. This spoilt our stay as it compromised our privacy. These rooms should only be used for families, not random guests. The wardrobe also had a rank smell when opened.
Review 35:The location, and breakfast buffet were excellent; also The Library lounge area was very pleasant.
Review 36:can be a bit warm - mind you, it is a very mild winter!
Review 37:we always like the Cavendish. the room view is excellent, as is the staff. Breakfast is always good. We could not resist the off season room prices via booking.com
Review 38:Great value accommodation with a stunning buffet breakfast, all staff were helpful and nothing too much trouble. We are regular visitors to Eastbourne to see relations and will certainly stay again - hopefully for longer!
Review 39:Bed had very hard mattress The Bar does not have a particularly nice atmosphere. Had a bar meal, enjoyed the food and good attention from staff but would not rate the atmosphere with the cold "whiteness". Very uninspiring
Review 40:Very efficient, friendly staff. Beautiful Hotel Building Nice food Exceptionally clean
Review 41:The room was way too hot even though the radiators were off, we over came this by keeping the windows wide open,so not a major problem. Some areas like the dinning hall and some of the carpets are in need of updating.
Review 42:Plenty of space to relax, the library is very nicely decorated and a nice place to sit and chill. friendly staff. Well located.good value for money.
Review 43:Car parking in the hotel car park is limited and charged (not known before we arrived). On-street parking is available, again charged, but is difficult to find a space within a short walk of the hotel - it was raining and we got soaked. For the price we paid I would have expected free parking in a secure car park.
Review 44:The room was excellent, with a great sea view and the staff were friendly and efficient
Review 45:The Devonshire Suite was not that well cleaned, e.g., chewing gum stuck on the t.v. screen and chocolate balls and sweet wrappers under the sofas and chocolate on the t.v. controllers. (we did however change rooms in a hurry and they had a short window in which to clean the room before our arrival).
Review 46:The service and staff attended to every detail to make us welcome and the service was prompt on every occasion.
Review 47:nice comfortable bed in lovely room. For the money paid would have liked full sea view room, but side view was nice and as it was new years eve it was good.
Review 48:Got a twin room instead of double and was not possible to change the room due to fully booked hotel. Was very uncomfortable to sleep on two beds stuck together.
Review 49:Location is brilliant, stuff is very polite and helpful. Nice breakfast and beautiful atmosphere.
Review 50:When my partner lifted up the seat of the toilet, it had not been cleaned and was stained from previous occupants. Bathroom floor looked very dirty with water marks all over it especially round the base of the toilet, hair in bath and on floor.
Review 51:View from bedroom window of sea was great
Review 52:It was a new years dinner and dance. The average age approx 60. The disco was set at 20-25 level!!
Review 53:Good welcoming staff. Room good, bathroom needs a bit of TLC. Food very good.
Review 54:The blonde Polish woman in the Coronet bar was very rude and unhelpful - not just to us but other residents, including rudeness to an elderly couple who she refused to serve coffee to.
Review 55:Reception staff were friendly and helpful
Review 56:We were visiting family and not enough beds so stayed in hotel. We got there late so didn't experience dinner there or day facilities. Check in was easy and quick. Bed super comfy and room lovely. Breakfast plentiful and delicious
Review 57:Had to wait to be seated for breakfast. No response from reception when busy had to go downstairs to order room service.
Review 58:Lovely big room with a sea view. Very clean room. Good breakfast.
Review 59:Our room was a tad on the small size and the bed was a very small double bed
Review 60:Hotel is ideal location and it was immaculately clean. The car park at £4 a day is great.
Review 61:The lift had a mind of its own, went where it chose not where I asked.Extremely stuffy, window only opened a fraction and wouldn't stay open, general tiredness of wood and decor...
Review 62:The location and the building itself
Review 63:the evening that we stayed for our first time in Eastbourne was really lovely, as we normally do caravan and found that a late night away for me being a lorry driver would make for a relaxing change. where the hotel was situated made it ideal for going for a walk both along the front and also into town. We found a really nice restaurant just out of town and had a lovely meal. We were not worried about the noise from the xmas party as we were at the back of the hotel. In the morning when we got up for breakfast we were not sure what to expect as we have stayed in a lot of hotels all over England and breakfast have been really variable in all of them, Well, what a restaurant area with a view out to sea and the rest was really a joy to behold what with excellent food and really excellent staff right from the word go on arrival, the cost was also excellent and we would love to come back again as long as my partner is well enough too. all the best and a happy new year to all staff at the Cavendish Hotel from Terry and Carol. p.s. king size bed would be nice if not king size quilts.
Review 64:Time it took just to get a cup of coffee from the bar. Heat in the bedroom like a sauna and not adjustable. The window could be opened but there was a howling gale blowing during our stay. The room and furnishing not up to 5star standard in my opinion. Soft Furnishings need upgrade.
Review 65:View from the bedroom window and our table at breakfast Excellent selection at breakfast
Review 66:The only thing I would suggest is for the gym to be open earlier!
Review 67:Very pleased with the position of the hotel, staff were friendly and breakfast was fantastic.
Review 68:Only one irritating experience; Whilst in the bar on 29th Jan am asked the barmaid to turn the TV down. She didnt respond to my request so I left the bar area. Could have done with a quiet room where children were not allowed.
Review 69:Comfortable room with great sea view. Great location. Generally speaking the staff were pleasant and helpful
Review 70:The staff on reception were pleasant but their English was surprisingly poor given the need for their interaction with guests.
Review 71:The pleasant dining room and excellent breakfast.
Review 72:Evening meal very uninspiring. Charged double on our final bill for evening meal + bottle of wine! Unable to get drinks on our tab in the bar as their computerized till did not recognise our our room tab.
Review 73:Good position on the sea front . Good price for sea view room. Spacious room with 2 comfortable armchairs. Good breakfast with plenty of choice. Car park.
Review 74:The room was rather cramped in size/layout, and gave the feeling of being well worn. There was a lack of attention to certain detail - like the toilet seat would not stay up and the rubber fittings were missing. A swimming pool would have been a great benefit. A single lift was somewhat inadequate for a hotel of this size, as was the arrangements for breakfast where guests had to wait about 20 minutes one morning to be seated.
Review 75:We had a very enjoyable stay, and the hotel was very well located for restaurants and shops. The few niggling dislikes I have mentioned did not spoil our stay. The staff were very helpful and friendly.
Review 76:The seal was broken on one window in our room. Probably not an issue normally but was quite noisy due to storm "Frank". Helpful staff offered us another room and made a temporary repair to the window.
Review 77:Wonderful location. Great view, nice staff, good breakfast!
Review 78:I booked this room for a young friend who found herself locked out of home late one evening while her family was away. We struggled to find a hotel that we could book into at nearly midnight but the reception at the Cavendish was excellent. Extremely helpful and accommodating, particularly as we couldn't get the online booking to go through immediately, and I was paying at a distance on behalf of the young lady we were helping out. The staff assured me that they would look out for her and make sure she was ok and I was able to relax knowing she had found a safe and secure place to spend the night. What a relief being able to speak to a real live human being when it counted and not just battle with an online form! Thanks to your wonderful staff for their care of a young person at a critical moment.
Review 79:I wouldn't say that it is a 4* hotel. The beds are very uncomfortable and we both had a awful nights sleep the first night. In the morning we asked at the desk if there is anything they could do. The girl said she would get another duvet to put underneath but all we got was a sheet that didn't make any difference on the second night. The room size is very small. Also the whole building was blazing hot. The breakfast was lovely but when I asked a waitress for some more condiments, she said she would get them.... I then waited for ages with some other people before another waitress asked if I was ok and got them filled up.
Review 80:Location was super. Breakfast was good.
Review 81:Even in a mild December (2015), the Hotel was very hot. As we were on the 4th floor, the wait for the lift took a long time to arrive.
Review 82:Location cannot be beaten
Review 83:Our bedroom encompassed all of the above but a sea view would of capped it off. Our fault not the hotels as we should of upgraded.
Review 84:Wonderful old building with traditional charm coupled with exemplary service
Review 85:Not enough vegetarian options at breakfast ie no veggie sausages plus more choices on the restaurant menu needed. We ate elsewhere because of the lack of choice and price.
Review 86:Lovely sea view from room which was spacious and clean. Nice communal areas.
Review 87:Our original room was noisy due to an extract fan, but was readily changed when we notified reception
Review 88:Very amenable and cheerful staff, and excellent food at breakfast & dinner.
Review 89:We loved everything about the hotel. No swimming pool but the Espa Spa, although small was very nice. J
Review 90:Eastbourne is a quintessentially British seaside resort with lots of lovely vistas. The Cavendish Hotel is a really good 4 Star with really friendly & helpful staff. Huge rooms with lovely, comfortable amenities. Loved the decor & the food was first class. Well done The Cavendish Hotel. Our stay was fantastic.
Review 91:Too hot at times. Would have preferred a bigger double bed and more comfortable pillows.
Review 92:Clean, spacious hotel. Good bathroom with bath and shower. Very nice breakfast with plenty of choice. Helpful staff. Excellent value for money.
Review 93:BED Rock hard they need replacing
Review 94:Bed Rockhard pillows need to be renewed staff excellent and the credit. Bar food desperately needs attention and a change of menu needs to be served hot not cold. Morning breakfast good value for money for staff in the dar great attitude
Review 95:It was boiling hot everywhere. We had to sleep with windows wide open! There weren't enough staff so we had to wait for everything A swimming pool would be nice.
Review 96:Great location right on the seafront Spacious lounge area Restaurant was very good Room was big and clean Staff were helpful
Review 97:Hotel was very hot especially room 221. The air was so dry I had a sore throat and cold by the end of the first day. Also due to the heat and stuffyness unable to sleep for the 2 nights of our stay. Surrounded by young children in the restaurant running around our table, parents didn't seemed bothered to control them. Hotel staff also did nothing? Restaurant was very hot during breakfast, felt like I was going to pass out so ended up sitting outside the Hotel to cool down. A shortage of staff in the Spa made booking a treatment almost impossible! Must admit we did get a good deal price wise, but it wasn't a pleasant stay.
Review 98:Location excellent
Review 99:Too warm in the hotel, even with windows fully open in room and fan on!
Review 100:Excellent location, nice sized family rooms, kids channels, water bottles in room, lovely atmosphere around the hotel and nice decor in the library.
Review 101:Noisy and very unpleasant guests in the room next to us. Our room had a side door connecting two rooms, hence the noise.
Review 102:Everything apart from the side door in our room.
Review 103:Room was on the third floor which if using the very slow lift takes ages. Decor very scruffy, old carpet.Would expect a much better standard for £150 per night.(4nights)
Review 104:Position of the hotel is fantastic, right on the seafront adjacent to the bandstand. House-keeping standard was high. Staff attitude helpful and professional.
Review 105:The standard of both rooms we stayed in was below 3 stars not to mention 4! We prepaid the Christmas lunch and even though I had checked the night before that everything was OK, upon arrival, the staff could not find us on the list. When checking out, they asked for the money again!! No fridge in the room and no air conditioning. The weather outside was about 15 degrees and yet the heating was on, which made the air within the building not only unbearably hot but also very dry.
Review 106:The location was fairly good.
Review 107:TOWELS, BLANKETS WERE HARD...THEY WEREN'T IN OCTOBER. PILLOWS LUMPY
Review 108:BEAUTIFUL OLD BUILDING, REFURBISHED. SUPERBLY COOKED FOOD....IMPOSSIBLE TO CRITICISE IT. AFTERNOON TEA WONDERFUL - SEE PHOTO (ALSO INC. CLOTTED CREAM, JAMS)
Review 109:There was nothing that I did not like about my stay.
Review 110:The food in The Marine restaurant was great value for money. The rooms were good but very hot. Staff were helpful and nothing is too much trouble.
Review 111:On departure we discovered thete had been a bar chatge to our room. We were not happy and suggested the receptionist.check the cctv. After a few minutes our.bill was altered to remove the charge. This left us with a bad taste after such a lovely stay
Review 112:Location was great. Lovely food and service.
Review 113:A lady had died in her bed (3rd floor), Ambulance personnel had arrived but the door was left open for all to see - and the room was being hovered at the same time!!
Review 114:Too hot! The communal areas and our room was so hot we slept with the window wide open all night in December. Such a waste of heating.
Review 115:Huge room and bed. Staff extremely polite. Breakfast had a good choice and the coffee was lovely. Checked in very late Christmas night with ease.
Review 116:Poor or non-existent wifi reception in some rooms (mainly SW wing I think). Reception staff could learn how to smile.
Review 117:Location, spacious rooms, almost everything
Review 118:Room was excellent with great view. Breakfast superb. Only one minor problem - the radiator in the room didn't work - we were supplied with an electric one as a replacement which was fine.
Review 119:One room was very hot from previous heating and/or location within hotel. Other room ajoing room door only had a small bolt on our side and no lock
Review 120:Good sized rooms, helpful staff Facalities fine although no swimming pool. Rooms generally comfotable apart from one room hot
Review 121:Several of the chairs in the bar window area where I had afternoon tea, had tawn fabric on the back. What a poor show. Wouldn't cost much to repair. At 3.30 I reported the ladies powder room at reception as unclean. Blocked look and tissues on the floor. Not checked since 11am and still not cleaned by 5pm approx.
Review 122:A Great welcome and Very well looked after by Alex from the evening staff. Excellent customer service.
Review 123:Didn't like packing up and coming home. That's it. Cannot find a single bad thing to say about The Cavendish.
Review 124:Everything about this hotel is first class. Huge, beautiful rooms which were immaculate. The staff were very friendly and very helpful.
Review 125:I was disappointed that the restaurant was closed on the Friday and Saturday nights, as with my immobility I had intended eating in. We used the bar menu the first night, but felt in view of the restaurant being closed to guests, more attempt could have been made to expand the bar menu. Having exhausted our preference on the bar menu , we were forced to eat out on the Saturday night and would recommend the West Rocks Hotel. Surprisingly we were not appraised of the restaurant being closed when booking in. .
Review 126:I was recuperating from a leg operation and the whole ambience of the place was reassuring and we would certainly look to using the hotel again..
Review 127:Car park could be better signed, but it's a minor thing.
Review 128:Traditional style seafront hotel... Warm, cosy hotel even with the big, grand style... New decor in room... Breakfast included and only £3 extra for breakfast in bed... Highly recommended!!
Review 129:The entire hotel was very hot albeit it December and I really feel the cold! The main reason we booked was for the spa which closed early and could not offer any treatments, I realise they are separate from the hotel but it should be clearer in the advertising of the hotel that this may be the case and to check prior to your trip.
Review 130:The hotel was very nice, great location and good value
Review 131:The whole hotel has a very tratidional look. For 5 stars I would like to have a bigger room, better windows etc. As well I would expect an indoor pool.
Review 132:Cleanliness is good. Breakfast buffet meets good standard, special toats or sides improve the breakfast impression. Free wifi worked at propper speed.
Review 133:Explained the shared room View not good but I should have asked for upgrade to sea view and paid a bit more
Review 134:Comfy bed and room except for the shared door it was like sharing with the occupant as I could hear tea being mad and the tele at 4am and of course the light shining under the door
Review 135:Lovely comfortable room and double bed which recently met sixties couple enjoyed very much! Only complaint, shared by other guests, was TOO MUCH HEATING!
Review 136:My only cause for concern was the room being too warm for me - despite the radiators being turned off. This was sorted out by the opening of the main window in my absence (I had tried opening it myself but assumed it was locked shut . . .
Review 137:Found all the staff very courteous - and attentive (over-warm room sorted out without any to-do in my absence : excellent buffet breakfast : exceptional value based on 51% online discount
Review 138:Broken & sharp tile as going into bathroom, which could have been very dangerous & cut feet. We did report. The sheets seem to be too small for beds, as don't reach to the bottom of the bed. Poor quality & flat pillows/ Poor quality toilet tissue, which is a false economy as you use more.
Review 139:It seemed to be better quality & unfrayed towels in the sea view rooms. Excellent selection of toiletries provided. Bottled water in rooms & glasses. Fridge in sea view rooms which is very useful. Very comfortable beds.
