Reviews for Best Western The Watermill

Review 1:There wasn't anything to not like

Review 2:I got a very good rate last minute for this room so to be honest I wasn't expecting too much. On arrival the receptionist was very pleasant and efficient When I was told the room was in an annexe ( not part of the main building) I expected it too be cold but there was a large radiator in the room which was on and even better a heated towel rail that meant the bathroom was toasty warm too.

Review 3:Having to complain about no heating 4 times before being moved Waiting for 1 1/2 hrs for dinner No hot water in the morning The 'offer' of compensation

Review 4:Newly furbished room (after being moved)

Review 5:The room was reserved for my elderly Mother. She is over 90 and is somewhat disabled. We asked for a disabled room when booking through the Booking.com website. She did not get one. At 5pm on Christmas Eve one has very few options to change hotel. For the entire 4 nights my Mother stayed there I was worried she might fall in the bathroom. All the reception staff could say was "Sorry". An alternative room disabled was offered sometime into her stay - a bit late in the day.

Review 6:Convenient location

Review 7:The food was awful. Paid £7 for a brie and tomato salad that was literally a sliced tomato with some sliced brie. The chicken in the other salad we ordered was reheated. Cooked breakfast obviously had been sat under a warming plate for some time as was far from fresh.

Review 8:The room was spacious and clean

Review 9:cocktail menu in room but didn't actually serve them anymore took a while to get served at bar even though no other guests about Room picked up noises from adjacent rooms

Review 10:nice place, like the location and ambiance Breakfast very good

Review 11:If you go for breakfast early and because of its popularity as a base for people working in the area, there is a quite a rush, though not so you have to queue up. Though this is everyone's fault not the hotels, unavoidable really.

Review 12:Comfortable modern rooms, helpful staff, extremely convenient location within walking distance of a couple of good pubs as other eating options.

Review 13:Reception couldn't find my reservation (a little worrying!); the chain on the room door fell off; there was no hot water in the morning.

Review 14:The room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was good.

Review 15:There was no-one on reception when we checked in and I had to find someone at the bar to attend to us. I was given a pencil to fill in and sign the registration form and when I declined and requested a pen it took an age for the member of staff to find one. When we went to our room the hallway was obstructed by an ironing board and iron and a tray of dirty crockery. These were trip hazards and the next morning the carpet was soiled with food waste and the items were around the corner on the landing of the stairwell. On the first morning of our stay we found there was no hot water available and had to go to a friend's home to have a hot shower. Returning to the hotel later in the day I enquired whether hot water was now available. I was informed that it was by a young man who called me "darling" which was unwelcome and in my opinion unprofessional. On the morning of our departure I mentioned the lack of hot water to the person on reception and waited for an offer of compensation. When none was forthcoming we then negotiated a £30 discount.

Review 16:The hotel's proximity to the refurbished White Horse pub.

Review 17:- Staff doing duel roles (reception & bar etc) meant customers kept waiting - Bedroom very old fashioned in decor, walls paper thin and had a nasty musty smell...the whole place looks in desperate need of a refurb - Sold bottled J20 soft drinks that were part of multipacks and 'not for individual sale' - I'm sure that's actually a fineable offence!!!!

Review 18:Location

Review 19:Ordered room service, when it arrived i was handed the two plates with no cutlery and they advised they would go and get some for me, 15 minutes later they come back by which time my meal was now cold, they also had to come back again with a seperate order of a roll with butter.

Review 20:Nice Location

Review 21:Stayed three nights last week. Night one - no heating no hot water inthe morning. No apology at all. Next night, shocking meal - have youever ordered a burger and got it cold, but the beef burger was betweentwo stale slices of bread??? Complained, reordered, guess what. Anothertwo stale crusts with a burnt burger in between. No apology. Nextmorning ? No hot water again. No apology. Spoke to duty manager -basically told to do one....,,.

Review 22:Convenien

Review 23:I was booked into a room with no heating or hot water as their boiler was broken. I had to ask for a heater and an extra duvet even though they were already aware it was so cold. The staff were polite and friendly but did not apologise. They did reduce my bill by £10.00 but it was a disappointing experience

Review 24:Room very basic. Shower was less than a trickle, no hot water or heating in the morning. Mattress very worn.

Review 25:Bar and reception area was well appointed.

Review 26:The hotel room was freezing and the bedding was very thin, I was really cold all night and normally I am a very warm person, myself and my partner were freezing all night, but the breakfast room was very hot, the food itself was cold, so had cold fried breakfast and staff couldn't speak English properly so didn't understand what we were saying. Last visit to this hotel was far better which is why we came back.

Review 27:The setting for this hotel is lovely, with the water feature.

Review 28:I woke up in the morning to leave for work early and there was no hot water in the room. A cold shower at 5am is not my idea of fun

Review 29:The location was excellent and the rooms very comfortable. Huge bed!!!

Review 30:The first room offered to us smelt very strongly of stale cigarette smoke. The second room was slightly less smelly. The bath was very worn. The rooms need updating. The bed too small and very uncomfotable. The no smoking signs need to be bigger and enforced.

Review 31:Every day I had to go back to the desk to get my electronic room key charged. On the third day I was advised that the reason for this is that someone had logged it each time as a one night stay. This was irritating because it was raining each time and I had to go outside to reach reception. Also I was travelling with my 81 year old mother, I booked the rooms at the same time but we were in different blocks about 3 minutes walk apart.

Review 32:When I checked out they gave us a better deal than the one suggested by Booking.com

Review 33:Didn't like being rang at 8.30 in the morning from reception saying a complaint had been made about noise from our room this was deeply embarrassing and false

Review 34:Mattress was awful in the room, literally went to about an inch thick every time I moved. Should have been replaced years ago. I was moved to another room, which was a little better. Food was absolutely abysmal, I did not have breakfast the second day as it was either over or under-cooked. Dinner was no better. Management response to my complaint was totally unacceptable. Was not at all interested in what I had to say, it seems customer care is not important at The Watermill.

Review 35:Dated needs new decor or refurbishment.

Review 36:A bit dated hotel paid for an executive room I would call it that but staff were nice and breakfast was so so . I'm used more from a best western and it wasn't cheap too although I'd stay again at a push.

Review 37:Staff did not understand English vary hard work.took my credit card online then when we got there and then wanted it when we left.not very happy under the data protection policy this carnt be right 3 different people had are card details there.

Review 38:You get what you pay for

Review 39:I thought the brekfast area could have been run a lot more efficiently and smoothly. The quality of the cooked breakfast was not great the tables were not cleared from previous guests who had breakfast there and there was not individual tea pots put on the table where you could help yourself. Also there should be a choice of mile ie skimmed semi skimmed or whole milk. I am allergic to full fat mild and there was no alternative, so breakfast was the big down fall for me. Also there was no extra blankets at night as i was cold with just one quilt.

Review 40:The staff were very welcoming and friendly as soon as you came through the door which was very pleasant. Also efficient informative as regards where our room was etc

Review 41:I am not sure if my room had been used for a while, the sheets on the bed felt damp. Hated having to go outside to reach reception and dining.

Review 42:Very nicely appointed with excellent bathroom facilities.

Review 43:The menu was very limited but what there was was well priced and good quality.

Review 44:The room was larger and rather better equipped than we had expected for the price. The bed was super comfey!

Review 45:Buffet style breakfast very poor. Scrambled eggs rubbery, bacon dried out and leathery, sausage of poor quality .. the whole meal luke-warm / tepid. Do-it-yourself toaster painfully slow.

Review 46:The ever smiling receptionist.

Review 47:The room was idealic being close to the water, pillows and bed were very comfortable, the staff were warm and friendly while being very professional. Breakfast was lovely too. Rooms a little dated maybe, but that was kind of nice too.

Review 48:Sleepless nights as the room I was accommodating was freezing in the evening as the radiator wasn't working and the duvet covers were too thin to shed any sort of warmth so I decided to speak to reception to ask for a portable heater only to be told that they didn't have one and there was nothing they could do!! Luckily the following morning I requested an extra blanket from housekeeping who was kind enough to give me one but this made no difference as it was still freezing! The walls and windows are very thin so beware as you can still hear the water from the Grand Union Canal and noise from adjoining room! Food was satisfactory

Review 49:Staff were friendly and attentive

Review 50:Asked for ground floor room but given disabled one, wet room, no plug in sink so difficult to have wet shave. Couldn't fill kettle in small sink Interconnecting door, noise from next room Bar prices expensive poor selection of beers, staff not knowledgeable Cooked Breakfast food was cold, think scrambled eggs were from dried egg powder, stewed tea served from a flask jug. And where do I start on dinner. Prawn cocktail - wet defrosted tasteless prawns with little or no sauce on bit of wilted lettuce yuk and the mains were nothing to write home about. Used pub across road on second night apparently lots of people do. Very nice food there!!! Only thing in favour was proximity to Harry Potter your

Review 51:Only thing in favour was proximity to Harry Potter tour Polite staff but not always informed

Review 52:cooked breakfast poor booked a double delux, was given a twin although was told it was a family room!! (fell out of single bed) Corridoors smelt funny

Review 53:The food for breakfast was good quality, but was only warm, the equipment was not designed keep food very hot. The staff in the breakfast room were very poor, they had not cleared away all the previous diners things away, nor did they clear away ours as we finished each part and we had to move them to another table to give room on ours. Also they brought us tea after we asked for coffee.

Review 54:The room was very comfortable with a large double bed. There was tea/coffee making facilities, with biscuits and bottled water provided.

Review 55:Room was above wedding reception so loud music until 12. Shower was a bit week, and run off the bath tops. Buffet breakfast was not hot, they usually aren't but this was a bit lukewarm

Review 56:Lovely location and building

Review 57:Room 145 definitely needs upgrading as carpets are filthy with burn holes either from cigarettes or irons !! Soundproofing - virtually none. Could hear everything from adjoining room as if standing next to me !!

Review 58:Reception staff good. Parking good

Review 59:Shower had no hot water, TV remote did not work properly, staff could not speak English very well, breakfast did not have much choice/struggled to be served hot drinks.

Review 60:The bed was comfy, complementary bottled water in room

Review 61:The receptionist asked me if I was pregnant, with a horrified look on her face since we were travelling with a young baby. Not the best comment to make to a new, not-pregnant mother!

Review 62:The room was huge and the bed was huge too. Breakfast was nice

Review 63:The first night was awful, the room ( 119 ) was freezing cold, though on requesting at reception in the morning an additional heater was provided. The duvet was the thickness of a tissue and the mattress not the most comfortable. The bathrooms, though "updated" could do with a better clean from housekeeping and additional maintenance. WiFI was "intermittent" for connection

Review 64:The staff were very pleasant and helpful, I feel sorry for them. Location was convenient. Pleasant enough, though could be so much better, with just a little effort on maintenance and upkeep.

Review 65:Room far too hot and no obvious means of control. In room kettle didnt work.

Review 66:Price was good compared to local alternatives. Englush breakfast was good.

Review 67:The room was too cold even though the radiator was on full the temperature was very cold. I didn't sleep too good as it was far too cold during the night.I woke up at 5.45 - 6am ready for work and the room was freezing. I complained to staff on my return to hotel on Wednesday evening and they bought me a portable heater. The staff even said "it is cold in here"

Review 68:The room was kept clean and tidy the bed was comfy..

Review 69:The very noisy extractor/similar device somewhere outside which could be heard clearly in room 123

Review 70:Piping hot water Good lighting with sensible positioning of switches, especially by bed Efficient handling of problem when I discovered I had left my diary behind

Review 71:Waiting at reception for 20 mins, being told to take a seat as no one was around - no apology Spiders webs and several spiders in the shower

Review 72:Free wifi

Review 73:Had a convention in so very busy for breakfast at 9.30. No tables and had to eat in bar, also had long wait for eggs and not much of other items left.

Review 74:The bar & restaurant area was very small & can't accommodate all it's guests. We would have spent more time ( & money) if we had been able to sit down !

Review 75:The hotel staff were extremely friendly & helpful & the room was adequate & clean. The hotel is situated by the grand union canal, easy walking distance to good pub for lunch/dinner but also a short taxi ride into Berkhamsted & it's restaurants.

Review 76:Shower was,nt hot enough. Couldn't be bothered complaining due to language problem.

Review 77:Hotel was clean. Breakfast nice, staff attentive. However, language problem with reception. Pleasant but struggled to be understood.

Review 78:Breakfast was a disaster.Nowhere to sit ,no hot food to eat and very noisy. Dining area to small for the number of rooms.

Review 79:Plenty of parking and very clean. Overall feeling of the hotel is that of a Premier Inn. Staff helpful and friendly. Bedrooms well equipped and extremely clean.

Review 80:Separation required between residents parking and the large number of visitors.

Review 81:Despite the hotel being hyper- busy I found that I was dealt with promptly on arrival and was hardly aware of the intense activity elsewhere.

Review 82:Shower curtain too short WC bowl too close to radiator Seat too small, could not sit square on seat,M&F. Only one suitcase rack Waiter pouring tea dregs from teapot Scrambled egg instead of fried or poached .DIY toast.

Review 83:Bed and duvet OK Millstream sound Pillows OK

Review 84:Nothing

Review 88:Food was great

Review 89:Was put in a disabled room and not disabled, so not sure why. But still ok.

Review 90:The room was clean and tidy and very comfortable.

Review 91:Friendly staff and good clean rooms Good breakfast with well mannered staff who helped but didn't interfere

Review 92:No hot water for shower with a begrudging apology. Not impressed. ! Paper-thin walls!

Review 93:Comfy bed. Location. Price

Review 94:Had to wait around for breakfast it arrived at the buffet in dribs and drabs

Review 95:The location was lovely

Review 100:could be a little cheaper.

Review 101:inbetween hemel and berkhampstead, plus good bus links and service.

Review 102:Queit and cheap
