Reviews for The Rowan Tree Country Hotel
Review 1:I was in a room the same side as the boiler so it was a bit disturbing but other than that it was a great place to stay.
Review 2:Lovely friendly staff and delicious food. Would recommend it.
Review 3:We were the only people staying in the hotel and it was absolutely wonderful. Roaring fire where we did some work in the evening, toasty bedroom. Could not have been more perfect, a lovely cosy little getaway in the mountains. Oh, and the breakfast was delicious... we had the full Scottish, but the eggs Benedict was very tempting. Thank you so much!
Review 4:Great hotel. Great breakfast range! Great rooms of hotel. Great location to near campsite for my bother family who live in caravan it I can ride the bike to campsite from hotel for visiter my brother family at there caravan! It very easy to park from main road and very easy to drive to Aviemore!
Review 5:The fact that I had to leave and move on because of other commitments!!!
Review 6:The comfy bed,the comfortable lounges, the ambience, the food and most particularly the friendly welcome.
Review 7:Huge room (number 5), tastefully decorated and yet cozy at the same time. The bar has Cairngorm Stag on tap and the wine list is eclectic and well proced. Great food with large portions presented mouthwateringly, similarly breakfast is a sheer delight with a wide range of temptations if you can tear yourself away from the thought of an excellent "full Scottish" with quality ingredients.
Review 8:Really outstanding cuisine. Among the best I've had in any hotel. This and the very friendly helpful staff easily made up for slightly dated decor etc. And what a lovely setting.
Review 9:Showers could be better. Poor pressure. Wifi also erratic particularly in the bedroom.
Review 10:Staff welcoming and friendly. Great food. Room was very nice and well maintained. Lovely location.
Review 11:Nothing
Review 12:Staff were so friendly. They couldn't have been more helpful and accommodating. Went down on the second day to find a table laid out for us specially for us in the bar so we could eat with our dog. Ate in the restaurant at night and the food was gorgeous. Room was nice and clean.
Review 13:Wifi poor in room 6 Room very small, ok for a single traveller but a bit tight for 2
Review 14:Great location, just outside Aviemore Good value for money Comfortable room
Review 15:It's a shame that this property is right on the main road but then it was very easy to find!
Review 16:The room was excellent; tea coffee and fresh milk were available. The owners are lovely, made us feel especially welcome. Dinner was exceptional and breakfast was equal to that!
Review 17:Everything was really good from the hotel room to the chef who will tho out of his way to cook you something you like. My family are vegetarians but not too keen on the veggie meals on the menu, the chefcooked them different meals. Cannot praise him or the other staff enough.
Review 18:Mattress was very soft, but it wouldn't stop a return visit.
Review 19:Quiet location on the outskirts of Avimore with an excellent evening dinner service - that was, by chance, also highly recommended by local tourism office. Warm and cosy, open fires to relax by with a drink from a well stocked bar. Comfortable room with nice design touches. Be aware, there is no lift so keep in mind if any mobility problems.
Review 20:Rude staff. We were made to feel like a massive inconvenience. Refused to give correct internet code, made comments about how they were too busy to help when we asked why we were getting an 'incorrect password' message. We needed to send an important message home but were unable to do so, especially since there was no mobile signal at the hotel. Booked table and sat in lobby with half an hour to spare before going to restaurant. Staff handed us menus and pushed us to place our order even though we weren't ready and wanted to change before dinner. They made a big deal about making food 'fresh to order' but were unable to cater for member of party that had an allergy. Had to go somewhere else to eat. Hotel noisy at night; lots of crashing about upstairs and banging of doors. Shower barely good enough to wash in. Room extremely small. Definitely wouldn't recommend.
Review 21:Fantastic hotel, with lovely welcoming staff who made you feel very much at home from the second you arrived.Fantastic breakfast and evening meals in the restaurant, with food fit for kings!! Lovely Cosy immaculately clean rooms, with two lovely lounges with real burning open fires set in a beautiful location not too far from town.
Review 22:Train line close by. No work area to place lap top in room.
Review 23:Evening meal and breakfast excellent Bar and dining area excellent. Lounge excellent Views from window excellent staff Free parking Outside areas to sit and watch the world go by
Review 24:The bed was uncomfortable. The ceiling was low - I'm 5'4 and had to bend to avoid hitting my head. The staff appeared to struggle with the concept of a packed breakfast. The decor was dated.
Review 25:Very convenient place to stop.
Review 26:It's an older property so the floorboards creak a bit! So can be a little bit noisy with guest being a bit heavy-footed and children running about...
Review 27:Wonderful spot, very picturesque and convenient for all this wonderful area has to offer. Staff are amazing - friendly, knowledgeable and keen to offer assistance - they're a credit to this lovely hotel.
Review 28:Bathroom was a little dated but still very functional. Bed was quite soft
Review 29:The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Room was comfortable and clean. Food in the restaurant was very good
Review 30:We have no complaints.
Review 31:The rooms were beautiful and the heated floors in the bathroom were a special treat. Sue and Len were wonderful hosts and made us feel very welcome. I loved the rural setting with water views. Be sure to try Sue's pooridge for breakfast. It was very creamy and she decorated the bowl with Borage and Lavender flowers.
Review 32:If I stayed again, I would ask not to have the (only) room by the main road as the road was noisy. The other rooms are away from the road so I would request one of those next time
Review 33:This hotel is in a great location - near to Aviemore but away from the crowds. The food was excellent.
Review 34:The staff and owners of the hotel were so friendly, and helpfull towards guests. The food was delicious, and the generous portions left us unable to order a sweet. There was a dog walk right at the hotel, which meant we could enjoy our evening without the need to change into walking clothes.
Review 35:It felt luxurious, as if we were indulging ourselves. We also appreciated the size of the town with its shops and services, and the ease of walking around. My husband enjoyed socializing with other guests in the evening--I was too tired.
Review 36:Comfortable hotel with everything I needed for a relaxing stopover. Staff welcoming and it was really good value for money. Great location without being too remote.
Review 37:The wifi (1 of 3) available did not work perfectly but good enough. For my taste the bed was a little too soft but ok.
Review 38:A pretty big house with an excellent restaurant. Everything made to order. Some veggie meals, good quality. A very nice lounge area on the ground floor. A small but nice bathroom with all you need.
Review 39:Noise from nearby road and railway make sleep difficult. Double bed very small. Bathroom also small.
Review 40:Food in restaurant and for breakfast was good. Comfortable downstairs lounges and deco. Staff friendly. Parking easy.
Review 41:Our room was beautifully decorated but rather small which made it difficult to find a place for our two suitcases. Also the bed was just a double not a king size .
Review 42:The hotel is very well appointed with great public rooms. The staff were all very welcoming and the food in the restaurant was excellent and very reasonably priced.
Review 43:2 Flights of stairs up to the top floor rooms height restrictions in the rooms with the sloping ceilings will certainly come again providing the room is on the first floor.
Review 44:Service was good staff very friendly.
Review 45:Staff made us feel very welcome. Nothing was a trouble to them. All meals were delicious and beautifully presented; good variety to suit all tastes. Location was superb with trees, birds, walks, loch......
Review 46:Clean, comfortable, quiet (there is a road and a railway line next to the hotel, but noise was minimal and infrequent). Staff friendly, cheerful, welcoming, and professional. Food was excellent - I found the portions generous.
Review 47:No lift so had to carry heavy bags up two flights of stairs.
Review 48:Room was small but comfortable and clean. The evening meal was excellent and the breakfast menu was extensive and most enjoyable. The location was very pretty
Review 49:I liked pretty much everything about this small hotel. From the cordial welcome, through the tasty dinner and local ale to the comfy sleep and very good breakfast. The staff was helpful and willing to answer questions. The room as well as the bathroom was clean and tidy. I would return anytime.
Review 50:Mattress too soft and only one chair in our double room. Also room was in the roof space and we both banged our heads on the sloping ceiling
Review 51:The welcome and the food
Review 52:We didn't like having to leave, could have stayed longer no problem but the hotel was fully booked aww ...
Review 53:As soon as we walked in to this hotel it had a lovely atmosphere, very quiet and calming. We were given a top floor room(12)with a stunning view of the loch and mountains while you are lying in bed enjoying a cup of coffee. Now I have to say ALL the staff here are very friendly and helpful and make you feel at home.We had a couple of drinks in the lounge complete with roaring open fire before dinner,it was that nice we nearly feel asleep in the leather sofa it was that cosy. The food and service both at dinner and breakfast were excellent. The restaurant is not big and does get booked out so book in advance and though it is busy it still seems to have nice quiet feel to it.We had a great night's sleep just so peaceful. This is now our favourite hotel in Aviemore and we have been going there for 25 years.cant wait to go back.
Review 54:We were surprised about the carpet in the bathroom which is quiet questionable. Unfortunately a little bit noisy due to the train nearby.
Review 55:Lovely view from the terrace over the Loch nearby. Very nice personel and a good breakfast.
Review 56:Staff were very helpful I am allergic to feathers so they gave me blankets in place without any trouble. I then burned my hand badly with boiling water from kettle in my room, the staff were quick to help me
Review 57:This was the second time we had stayed at Rowan Tree and it was a disappointment. We had a small and noisy room on the road with a shower that struggled to deliver water.
Review 58:Once again the food was great. Steve is a great Chef.
Review 59:At check in we were given room on top floor but when I explained that I'd had knee surgery and withy no lift they changed it to a room on first floor - Thank you
Review 60:Spectacular food, quiet and comfortable accommodations and facilities. This is the best place I've found on Booking.com, after stays in over a dozen countries.
Review 61:I hate to say but the hotel advertises that it has free wifi in the corridors and such but I could barely get onto the Internet which was a bit rubbish! Staff were not very attentive, they have you your key and that was it. When we had a problem with our room the main lady on reception was quite rude about it. Breakfast was okay but not the best! I did love the cosy log fire they had gave it a nice touch. It's not for the young people, that's for sure. It's quite old like really old.
Review 62:It had the comfiest bed in the world, not kidding had a fabulous sleep! In fact I have never slept better in a long time! AAAAA++++ for bed .p.s it's in room 8.
Review 63:Large well appointed, comfortable and cosy room with fabulous views. Excellent food, wonderful ambience and friendly staff for whom nothing is too much trouble. I recommend a stay here and we will definitely return. The best hotel we've stayed at for many years. Thankyou to our hosts Steve and Monique, and their hard working staff.
Review 64:Shower was electric and so had limited water flow, the shower base was partly blocked. Breakfast room could have been a little warmer.
Review 65:Hotel: attractively furnished and fitted to a high standard throughout. Reasonable price. Location: excellent, quiet, rural, away from the bustle of Aviemore; vast range of outdoor activities and wildlife. Staff: all very pleasant and friendly, very good service Room: we had room 8, good sized room and bathroom, plenty of cupboard space and good sized bed. Bar: very comfortable and good to see a local beer on tap. Food: excellent dinner menu, interesting, varied, well prepared and presented. Very reasonable prices. Superb range of breakfast dishes. Dining room: quiet, comfortable.. Breakfast room: great view towards Loch Alvie.
Review 66:Did intend to go into Aviemore of an evening for both for refreshments but found the Hotel much more inviting, very friendly and welcoming proprietors and staff.
Review 67:Not being part of a chain we really loved the homely relaxed atmosphere. The owners and staff were friendly and attentive. The food in terms of choice and quality was of an exceptional standard.
Review 68:Breakfast was yummy and as we were skiing early we were given an early one, which was much appreciated. The location just a 2 minute drive from town meant we had the benefit of the bars and restaurants but were surrounded by beautiful countryside. Lovely stay.
Review 69:Had a lovely feel as soon as we walked in. Very attentitive staff. our room was beautiful and the cleanliness was 10/10. comfiest bed we've ever slept in. Amazing food & drinking sitting by a fire was just the highlight I could go on and on...would deffinetly book again!!!
Review 70:Wi-fi bit hit and miss in our room - ok downstairs.
Review 71:Location was nicely secluded and scenic by Loch Alvie yet really near to Aviemore. Food was hearty, wekk cooked & nicely presented. Staff were friendly and made you feel at home.
Review 72:The hotel was homely with the open fires & lounge areas. We found the food excellent & to a high standard & did not feel rushed to eat are meals. Staff were friendly & helpful
Review 73:The standard bedroom was somewhat small and the bed was too short for my 6ft2in frame.
Review 74:Quality of food and comfortable lounge/dining areas. Politeness of staff. Location.
Review 75:A warm welcome in a lovely hotel. Owners go out of their way to make you feel at home, as do the staff. Food was delicious and will definitely stay again next time we're in Aviemore.
Review 76:Our room didn't have a bath and shower was inconsistent. The wi-fi situation could be improved in the rooms especially since service can drop easily. Our room appeared to be next to a staff room and it was regularly noisy
Review 77:the room was very comfortable and the bed was amazing. The location was perfect for travelling to any location in the area and not too far from inverness. Really nice area to walk around the hotel down next to the loch.
Review 78:There was not anything we did not like about this place.
Review 79:Very homely with a wonderful warm welcome. Staff were very pleasant and the food was beautiful and very well presented. Rooms were very warm and comfortable. I would definitely recommend this hotel to friends and family and I would stay here again.
Review 80:A warm welcome. Friendly, knowledgeable owners with chatty, helpful staff. An excellent choice for breakfast. Well stocked open fires, nice atmospheric bar. Excellent dinner. Wifi in public places.
Review 81:Nothing.....
Review 82:Had a great nights sleep, bed was massive and very comfy! Very dog friendly, was perfect for travelling with our dog. Breakfast and dinner were great, great value for money. Staff very welcoming and friendly. All in all a great hotel and will defiantly return in the future.
Review 83:We didn't like being rushed through the courses of our meal. It gave us the feeling that they wanted us to eat up and leave the table as soon as possible. and we weren't eating late, either. We had hardly finished our starter when the main dishes appeared on the table. There was no chance to even take a breath or appreciate our lovely starters. So, please, folks, slow it down a bit. If other diners wish to gallop through their courses, then let them do so. But if that wish is not expressed, then please give diners a chance to take a bit of a break between courses--your food is worth being able to savor and enjoy!
Review 84:The owners are lovely people and very friendly. We arrived a bit stressed in the midst of a snow storm but quickly got checked in and out of the bad weather. From there, we were able to enjoy the wonderful roaring fireplace and Christmas tree. Staff members were very nice and attentive. The evening meal was excellent. Breakfast was delicious as well (what an omlette!).
Review 85:The WiFi is very spotty, only available in specific areas.
Review 86:The food is excellent, their breakfasts set you up whatever activity you have planned for the day. The staff are very friendly and give the place a homely feel.
Review 87:Wifi was acting up.
Review 88:Staff is absolutely lovely and accommodating. Bed was comfortable, food at the restaurant was delicious. 2 fireplaces to enjoy and full bar as well!
Review 89:We love everything about The Rowan Tree. There is a bath rather than a shower (important!). We love the breakfast - the fruit salad with fruit and nuts is amazing. There is a perfect dog walking space just next to the car park. The biscuits and drinks in the room are lovely. This is our fifth visit.
Review 90:Not much ! Passing trains do make a rumble now and then but I was not disturbed by this.
Review 91:Friendly staff , very comfortable room and bed Nice atmosphere to the whole place .Excellent meals Scenic location not far outside Aviemore
Review 92:We enjoyed this hotel last year and the previous year, hence our return. As usual, great staff, excellent food and very comfortable, particularly in the lounge and bar areas with two coal fires burning.
Review 93:Loved the family atmosphere here. All the staff were delightful. Comfortable well decorated room with very comfortable bed and reasonably good shower. The food was delicious but gigantic in it's portions. We could easily have satisfied the three of us with one dish!
Review 94:We have visit this area for approx 30 years, so much to do within a beautilful part of the Country, walking, fishing & golf etc, if you like outdoors, this is where you want to be. the Rowantree is also a very comfortable hotel to stay at and the service & food is first class.
Review 95:I like dogs as much as the next person, but when 'people' have a whining dog should they not put the bloody thing in the car or make it shut up if they want it to stay in the bar?
Review 96:A small hotel which gives the personal touch ... Excellent food ... Friendly staff ... Good value for money ...
Review 97:There was nothing to dislike
Review 98:Very comfortable stay, with cheerful and helpful staff. I would definitely stay there again, and recommend others to do so.
Review 99:The food was of the highest standard, with a varied menu and at a reasonable price for the quality. The service was friendly and efficient, without being OTT. Nice, quiet friendy plae to spend some time.
Review 100:From its friendly welcome to its cheery goodbye, I was well impressed. Public areas were clean and well cared for, roaring fire in the evening, food of a high standard and good selection on the menu. Room was again clean, comfortable and good facilities. Breakfast was super and well presented. The hotel is a credit to the owners and the staff. Had a haste ye back feel about it. Thanks to all.
Review 101:The shower in our room was a bit on the small side and the plumbing is old so hot water, drainage etc. is slow
Review 102:Very quiet, comfortable bed, superb breakfast choices, excellent location
Review 103:There was candidly nothing I did not like.
Review 104:The hotel was a top class place fantastic location nice rooms and the restaurant was great with fabulous food a five star experience.
Review 105:Drinks on pricey side, bathroom extractor did not work.
Review 106:Evening meal excellent, good breakfast choice, great range of whiskies. Room very comfortable with good range of toiletries. Very quaint.
Review 107:Location was the only downside - it's meant more for travellers with cars - not so easy to access with public transport.
Review 108:The staff was very welcoming and friendly - they let me store my huge backpack there for the day although I had already checked out. The room was lovely and clean. The restaurant downstairs is worth the try and the staff are, again, very nice.
Review 109:My husband had a poor nights sleep as the duvet was to heavy and hot and no top sheet to use instead we were in room four
Review 110:Very nice breakfast Very nice ans help full staff
Review 111:Nothing negative to say.
Review 112:Great country location just a few miles from the bustle of Avimore. Staff friendly and helpful, room excellent, food excellent, good value for money.
Review 113:Nothing to dislike !
Review 114:Everything, well appointed hotel with friendly staff, lovely room and very comfy bed and the food was absolutely wonderful. Would definitely stay again - oh yes, and the breakfast was delicious !!
Review 115:Room was a bit small
Review 116:One of the best places to stay while visiting Aviemore. It's a bit outside the town but it's location is amazing. It's by the Loch and the view from our 2nd floor room was stunning. The staff and owners are extremely friendly and allowed us to use the kitchen facilities to warm our babies food / milk.
Review 117:Couldn't get wifi in the room (12) not the end of the world but would of been an advantage!
Review 118:Excellent welcome, rooms, staff and food are exceptional, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend to family and friends.
Review 119:Wifi only on ground floor, hotel is on the road. It suits only for someone who travells by car because there's nothing else around (no shops, no farmacy, places to see, etc.)
Review 120:Very cosy hotel, perfect cusine, picturesque view
