Reviews for The Bluebell Inn

Review 1:All the staff we met were welcoming and friendly. The room was cosy and the bed was comfortable. Breakfast was very tasty, there was a wide range of items available and service was swift. Lovely place to stay.

Review 2:This was a lovely clean and comfortable hotel in a great location. The restaurant downstairs served good food at a reasonable price. The rooms and beds were very comfortable

Review 3:Late start times for breakfast meant missing parts of a course at West Dean College every day. 8.30 is unusual; every hotel or B&B ever used operates from 8.00 or earlier to allow a normal start to the day.

Review 4:Young keen staff. Good breakfast.

Review 5:There was a strange deep fat fryer smell which I coudl not explain as the food was not deep fat fried!? Being an ex-chef I just couldn't get my head round it.......shame as the place was lovely and the Manager was great.

Review 6:The Manager and Staff were great, and the breakfast was top!

Review 7:The friendly staff, the great breakfast, good pub food, excellent wifi reception and the feeling that I was the most important person to them. Thank you so much. And really easy access to Chichester. I was doing the South Downs Way so the location was ideal. Just 15 minutes from the trail.

Review 8:Room was dimly lit. Main meal was OK. Couldn't work the TV, probably my fault. Cooking smells in the bedroom Flat southern beer is not to my northern taste

Review 9:Staff were friendly and efficient Nice informal atmosphere Breakfast was nice - nicely cooked and lashings of good coffee The bar was OK Good shower Easy parking Good value for the area

Review 10:Having to share a bathroom but it worked out OK.

Review 11:From the moment we arrived, ate and left the staff were very attentive. Nothing was too much trouble and the food was great. Spoke to the owner and a member of staff after breakfast and expressed this to them. It is always nice to get good feedback from the public.

Review 12:The whole building smelt of cooking oil, noise from the kitchen whilst it was in operation. The smell never went away even with the windows open. All bedrooms on the 1st floor above the pub restaurant and kitchen. Room quite small and a bit dated

Review 13:Good breakfast with pleasant member of staff.

Review 14:I didn't like the fact that overnight there are no staff employed by the hotel who remain on site. Also althought we paid for breakfast this was not available until after 8.00 because it was dependent upon the arrival of a first staff member at8. We had to be away by 7.45

Review 15:It was good value for money and well located for Goodwood Motor Racing Circuit ( 15 minutes drive) food nor inspiring but okay....

Review 16:It took a little while to connect to the Wifi, but once we were connected it was all fine

Review 17:Lovely staff, delicious dinner, and one of the best breakfasts I have had in a B&B!

Review 18:We were caught out by the restaurant closing early on Friday night but had a nice meal in Midhurst. Our room was very small for a double.

Review 19:Great location for cycling on the South Downs way. Food in restaurant very good.

Review 20:All good

Review 21:The owner/ manager was very welcoming and professional in his manner, the rooms and decor were tasteful and immaculate, the breakfast was beautifully presented and tasty too

Review 22:Shared bathroom for 2 of the rooms can be inconvenience if you have schedule and bathroom is in use. Not a major issue though.

Review 23:Staff are extremely helpful and hospitality is excellent. Very friendly

Review 24:Unfortunately the smell of chips pervades the whole place including the bedrooms. Bedroom and bathroom were very pokey. Would have been ok if the room wasn't so expensive!

Review 25:Excellent breakfast. Lovely real ale in the bar. Friendly and helpful staff.

Review 26:The room we had was quite small and we struggled to get past each other at times.

Review 27:The pub was beautifully decorated. Champagne by the glass and a lovely breakfast. We were given a front door key so it didn't matter that we were late back.

Review 28:We had the King size room but didn't realise till we arrived that it was a shared bathroom. It did say it in the small print but it wasn't obvious. We were both disappointed with for the price of the room.

Review 29:Lovely food and nice views

Review 30:I was in room 2. Unfortunately this is directly above the kitchen, as I suspect the neighbouring room is, and the sound of the refrigeration unit can be heard the entire time and at night time it is particularly disturbing. I'm just glad I travel with ear plugs. Whilst the room is comfortable enough, having stayed in better for cheaper, I felt £85 was expensive.

Review 31:More power points required in room #3 - the only sockets available to plug in the hair-dryer were nowhere near a mirror! Also, a double bed requires a bedside table and lamp on both sides - it should not be necessary to wake your partner or get out of bed if you require a light in the night.

Review 32:Friendly, helpful personnel; comfortable bed; excellent location close to Midhurst and within easy reach of most of Sussex/Hampshire; superb food in the restaurant; chilled water available just outside the bedroom door was a very welcome touch.

Review 33:Bedroom very small. No chair on which to sit. Hardly any room to walk about. Breakfast OK but some fruit could have been offered with cereals. Prices for lunch and dinner expensive.

Review 34:Simon staff member who was covering everything it seemed on his own and was brilliant.

Review 35:The owner and staff were friendly, helpful and professional. The location was excellent as it was so near the South Downs Way. The rooms were well appointed and comfortable, and there was a varied menu.

Review 36:Very nice room, comfortable bed, great food. peaceful location. Free Wifi. I was up to early for breakfast but they made some exceptionally good sandwiches instead which was a better option for me.

Review 37:Noisy all night with boiler burning throughout. Strong smell of cooking fat in room from kitchens below. Prices too high for what is offered.

Review 38:Nice location

Review 39:Room well equipped but uncomfortably small - no room for soft chair and a squeeze to get in one side of bed

Review 40:Very friendly and helpful staff. Excellent atmosphere, lovely food.

Review 41:The staff are not on site overnight but they do leave an emergency telephone number in case it's needed

Review 42:The food was excellent and portions were bigger than expected. The staff were friendly and helpful

Review 43:horrid pillows, no tumblers, teaspoons, mingy with milk. Over-priced considering it was shared bathroom and smallish room

Review 44:breakfast and serving staff were good nice atmosphere throughout

Review 45:The price, £160 for a one-night stay for 2, DBB, is too expensive - especially when booked at last minute.

Review 46:The food - and the hard-working publican, who did everything himself!!

Review 47:Unfortunately there was a cooling unit motor near the room and with this motor running all the time, sleep was a problem

Review 48:Very nice room and bathroom. Had luxury feel, lovely breakfast, free wifi, nice atmosphere in pub, nice staff

Review 49:The Inn is cosy and has a nice mix of locals and guests of the Inn. The food was fabulous, we ate dinner and breakfast. The room was very clean and comfortable. Simon and his staff were great hosts. All in all a very pleasant stay and we will definitely be back.

Review 50:I had a constant buzzing noise coming from one of the fridges/freezers all night long as my room was over the kitchen/court yard area.

Review 51:Very clean room & pleasent staff with excellent breakfast.

Review 52:Great pub, great food. Business run by somebody with a huge knowledge of the industry and great attention to detail. Staff attentive. Fantastic value for money.

Review 53:The owner was pleasant but could have smiled more. He was helpful when questioned and the breakfast was good. We were in a twin bedded room and it needed a couple of chairs for somewhere to put one`s clothes when removing them. 2 small bedroom chairs would have been adequate, as there was not room to put anything bigger. We would certainly stay there again if we were in the area.

Review 54:There was a shared bathroom that I did not realise when booking. However the other room to share was unoccupied so I didn't have to share. I would have been terribly unhappy if I had to share with people I didn't know

Review 55:It was okay, nothing wrong for the price. Breakfast was very good.

Review 56:Nothing to complain about

Review 57:The room was nice, clean and bright. Tea/coffee facilities. Flat screen TVs. Two deep comfortable pillows. Bed also comfortable, service was excellent from proprietor, food was excellent.parking outside

Review 58:While the bar was open, the boiler made some strange noises that seemed to rattle something in our room (room 4). This stopped as soon as the bar closed though.

Review 59:Simon was a fantastic host, always easy to get hold of by phone and did a great job of looking after us during our stay. The bed was amazing and I wouldn't have wanted anything more from the facilities - except perhaps more than 4 mini milk cartons per day!

Review 60:There was nothing I didn't like.

Review 61:My room was superb with everything one might expect, very comfortable and clean. The food was excellent. Indeed one of the best breakfasts I have had on my travels and Simon couldn't have been nicer; very friendly and helpful.

Review 62:Could nt check in untill 18.00 hrs (to be fair I got an email telling me this, but I was in bad reception area all day and didn't get it untill I was sat in car park at 17.15.) Got to reception and was aaked to pay in advance, by card, I wanted to pay with cash. The absent owner was summoned on the phone and basically he said he didn't take cash, ,the legal currency of this country, and that it was my problem if I hadn't read the website correctly. I then told breakfast was at 08.30...far too late as far as I am concerned for midweek so had to forego that delight. Don 't think I'll ever stay here again!! I stay in hotels 3/4 nights per week 46 weeks per year

Review 63:Room adequate , clean, warm.

Review 64:Room itself and internal bathroom pretty small. Bathroom smells of damp, & could do with a change of toilet brush. Limited catering of breakfast options due to having to leave early, i.e. 7am on a Sunday.

Review 65:Location for Goodwood. Staff efficient and nice food in the pub.

Review 66:-Staff were efficient, helpful and friendly -Food in the pub was fab! including the wine. (I loved the bangers and mash, fishcakes and creme brulee) -the room was spacious and beautifully presented - breakfast was lovely...cooked to perfection! -central location for me to get to Chithurst the next morning.

Review 67:Bedside table had a thick layer of dust on it. Asked what time I wanted breakfast earliest being 8.30, but also if I got down early there would be someone there, which there was, however chef didn't arrive till 8.30 and then stood outside having a cigarette before starting to cook

Review 68:Staff very friendly and helpful. Room was very comfortable.

Review 69:The check-in time was not as advertised on the Booking.com confirmation. Instead of 14.00 onwards, check-in does not appear to be possible until 18.00 when the staff arrive. Breakfast was not available before 9am, which might be a bit late for walkers keen to be getting a move on. No staff on site overnight.

Review 70:Proximity to South Downs Way - not directly on the route but very accessible from/to it. Comfortable bed. Facilities in room. Good en suite. Chilled water available in cabinet on landing. Excellent breakfast. Helpful staff who went out of their way for me.

Review 71:£175 for that room was a rip-off even for Glorious Goodwood. The shower was very poor,if the hot water was that temperature in the winter it'd be freezing and the water pressure/flow was abysmal.

Review 72:The food was excellent,as was the real ale and wine.

Review 73:I booked because this was the only place in the area that had three rooms free on the night. It had no connectivity with my devices (O2), and for me, wasn't great value at the price I was charged.

Review 74:food was good and staff were friendly and helpful

Review 75:I would have preferred an en suite for the price

Review 76:I liked the staff and the food. I was on a back packing holiday and felt a bit scruffy but was made welcome.

Review 77:Floors in communal areas and in the rooms had not been cleaned in ages. Dinner was quite expensive. It was generally good, but I had a roast pork shoulder for dinner which had not been cooked so the meat was raw, but even though I pointed it out to the owner, they apologised but no concession was made to the price of the meal even though I was unable to eat the meat. My friend's meal was fine though. Overall, I felt the rooms were too expensive at £80 a night (single occupancy in a double room), considering the location.

Review 78:Charming owners, lovely rooms. Good beds, quiet night's sleep.

Review 79:-On busy road so noisy -hot on a summers night, especially as opening a window meant more noise. -Strange décor in bedrooms!

Review 80:-Friendly staff -Convenient location for the wedding being attended -excellent breakfast

Review 81:Noisy late night arriving guests (not the pub's fault)

Review 82:Food was delicious and outstanding. Simon was a very good host. Value for money was very good

Review 83:After last customers have left after say 10pm the place is closed. You have a key but arrive to an empty place so a bit more like a traditonal b&b in that sense. However if you want a late drink this can be left in the fridge for you. Also no TV but wifi is good.

Review 84:Stayed for 5 nights, Simon and staff very good. Comfy beds and free wifi great. Lovely breakfasts and evening meals, made packed lunches for my work days and made a dinner 'off menu' for me as I wanted something different one night. Good real ale.

Review 85:I had a twin room which shared a bathroom with the room next to it, I admit I didn't see it on the booking and with no other options available in the midhurst area that night I had to stay. The twin room was tiny, with no TV, or even a sink or even a little bedside table it was the most basic accommodation I have stayed in for years.

Review 86:The Bar and restaurant were lovely and the breakfast was perfect, the staff were very pleasant.

Review 87:Very nice and cozy inn, great rooms, excellent food.

Review 88:Nothing.

Review 89:Lovely welcome shown to our room and generally well looked after. Breakfast was really lovely. Definitely would use the Bluebell Inn again.

Review 90:Lovely staff, friendly and helpful. Room was great for a short stay.

Review 91:the food was excellent and the staff were friendly and very helpful

Review 92:I would have liked an en-suite room

Review 93:Food is excellent

Review 94:Some noise from the kitchen fans in the bedroom.

Review 95:Comfortable bed and excellent breakfast. A good evening menu.

Review 96:Noisy shower/water pump

Review 97:Very friendly, good food

Review 98:Comfortable bed. Breakfast very good

Review 99:The staff very friendly and very helpful

Review 100:Up-market B&B but ultimately generic and uninteresting.

Review 101:Being attached to the pub and restaurant. The room was clean and comfortable.

Review 102:shared bathroom.

Review 103:friendly service good evening food very near to Goodwood Motor circuit

Review 104:May be a door could be put between the kitchen and the rooms

Review 105:Price/quality A confort and quiet room Good breakfast Staff nice

Review 106:Staff pleasant and helpful. Wi-Fi worked a treat. Room cosy. Breakfast generous, great quality and cooked to order.

Review 107:Disappointed that the room was not en suite and had to share the bathroom with another room

Review 108:Dinner was very good as was the breakfast

Review 109:Dinner was possibly the best meal I have had in a very long time.

Review 110:The breakfast was absolutely perfect! And rooms very pretty and cosy. Made for a very comforting stay. Staff eere alsi helpful and friendly!

Review 111:Would have been nice to be open through the afternoon

Review 112:Good location for the South Downs Way.

Review 113:All very nice, nice people, lovely food

Review 114:Food and location

Review 115:Very friendly helpful staff, lovely room

Review 116:Close to South Downs Way, quiet room, good meal.

Review 117:Everything!

Review 118:Front room has road noise.

Review 119:Food was good Staff were good

Review 120:Excellent. Even though travelling alone. I felt very welcomed. Even made me a packed lunch the next day to take to my course.

Review 121:pleasant welcome and very clean with a good size room and very good value for money

Review 122:The position of the inn was central to most points of interest in the area. Friendly host and staff.

Review 123:The staff and food were excellent
