Reviews for The Old Vicarage Hotel

Review 1:Could hear people next door quite clearly. Also reception could do with a tidy up be more welcoming not the staff the actual reception.

Review 2:Location was good and booked as special price, parking too.

Review 3:I am short and all the mirrors were hung by a giant, so I could only peek at the top of my head!!

Review 4:Second stay here, accidental duplicate payment on stay 1 was sorted out quickly. Rooms really lovely, comfy bed, easy to control heating, good WiFi, powerful shower. Great breakfast. Staff easy going

Review 5:Despite requesting a gluten & dairy free breakfast at time of booking and e mailing again a week before travelling no provision had been made. I could only eat fruit and poached eggs for breakfast.

Review 6:Quirky very old building right in heart of Bridgewater. Very efficient heating! very clean room.

Review 7:This was the 3rd time we have used this hotel and was not so impressed with the service and breakfast this time. Don't know if the management has changed but it was new front of house staff, not as good as the old staff. On going to our room we found someone else's luggage in the room. On informing reception it was removed and a poor excuse for it being there was offered, but this left us felling uncomfortable and wondering what was going on.

Review 8:Currently undergoing refurbishment. Also access to car park very restricted. I have stayed here before and I am sure when refurb is finished it will be back to its best. Unless you have a small car the car park is a very tight squeeze.

Review 9:Central location in quaint historic building. convenient to lots of local restaurants etc.

Review 10:Not enough room to enter the shower.so had to struggle. Getting the tea for breakfast was not easy - guest continually walking to the drinks bar. I think it may be best for each table to have a small jug of milk for the teas.

Review 11:Staff very friendly - cleanliness excellent - dri Drnks in room excellent - breakfasts 100% Shower easily operated and everythinbg ok except entry by sliding door.

Review 12:The room had a musty smell with a damp wall behind the bed. It should not have been used for guests. Due it being carnival weekend we had no other choice.

Review 13:Great location

Review 14:Shower tiles mouldy. Carpet stained. Only tea and coffee available at breakfast no hot water. Nobody asked us what would we like to drink or advise us how to find cereals etc. Unfortunately we were constantly disturbed by street noise, drunk people, not the hotels fault. Also cars passing their lights reflected in our room from an uncovered top window. Room to close to the pavement. Also could not have ventilation at night as windows seem to be truly fixed.

Review 15:The location next to St Mary's Church was very pleasant. The parking fine. Breakfast tasty.

Review 16:The only point I would make is some parts are looking a little tired around the hotel and in the room but there was a sign stating renovations were taking place so really there wasnt anything to complain about!

Review 17:Where to start!! 1. The staff were very pleasant. I made the booking for my mum who was coming to visit. The booking included breakfast and the staff were more than happy for me to come and join my mum for breakfast during her two night stay which was nice of them! 2. The room was very clean, a little tired in some places, such as the bathroom and wallpaper but there was a notice up stating that renovations were taking place so maybe on a next visit there may have been some changes. 3. The room felt warm and cosy and the furniture in the room was very nice and good quality. 4. Breakfast was lovely, we did overhear a guest complain that his full english tasted like it had vinegar on it...we also had a full english and couldnt taste any vinegar whatsoever so we couldnt quite understand his complaint...some people will do their best to have a moan!! We were a little concerned that the hotel was a little closer to the town centre than we had liked and were worried there might be a bit of noise from the pub at the end of the street but actually there was no noise at all and you wouldnt know that you were in the middle of a town centre! All around thumbs up and im sure I will be making more bookings in the future for more of my family at this hotel.

Review 18:Service was poor, reception not particularly welcoming. Breakfast was very small. Room, although adequately sized, smelt musty.

Review 19:The location of it was the best.

Review 20:Bit run-down, in need of TLC (like the town) In need of insulation - could hear every move of family staying upstairs

Review 21:Comfy bed Good breakfast Good shower Good friendly staff

Review 22:Was spoken to very rudely by an easter European at 6am stating I was unhappy and wanted a refund, the which she replied by laughing and said no chance,

Review 23:None couldn't find a fault

Review 24:Amazing really recommend! The manager was really helpful and made a great full English if you're looking for a hotel in Bridgwater look no further!

Review 25:The pictures of this hotel on booking.com is not the hotel that we went to and was so dark, depressing and dirty we didn't stay for the 3 nights booked

Review 26:Nothing

Review 27:A lovely quirky building, very friendly staff, would do anything to help. Comfortable, clean room overlooking the church. Beautiful gardens taking shape

Review 28:Sadly the restaurant wasn't up and running due to the fact "new owners" although they did manage to serve a full English which was nice! The young Polish waitress kept forgetting things and I felt let Justin the Manager down as he was so "on the ball" she totally forgot a ladies breakfast and she had to be reminded about the extra toast, then it came out on brown and we asked for white.. going past our table empty handed back to the kitchen and leaving our used cereal bowls etc until after we had completely finished was just creating more work for herself and not a pleasant sight for us or anyone else.. and there really wasn't many people in. But hopefully she just had an off day like we all do.. and when we return she may have read this and learned ;o) The room we had was no19 a suite, a very old damp room which had a cold feel to it.. Justin soon warmed it up with boosting the heat for us and it soon became cozy.. a lovely room with a massive open fire place (sadly couldn\t be used)

Review 29:The Manager Justin was friendly and nothing any trouble at all, in fact he covered everything more or less on his own, from reception, bar man and waiter! - He deserves a good pay rise, he has lots of ambition and it is a pleasure hearing him talk of the Old Vicarage's future and the History! Hope to pop back next year and see all the changes and to see Justin again and that burst of enthusiasm that warms the place..

Review 30:Really needs a bit of a re-vamp and general improvement. Historic should not be an excuse for worn-out. Marmalade would be nice at breakfast !

Review 31:Convenience from station and to my venue

Review 32:We took my sister with us for a three day break, but although the bedding was clean and the bathrooms also the whole place could really do with some serious updating and should be called a B&B not a hotel as they do not offer any evening meal and the breakfast was very basic, and no where to sit of an evening if you wanted to.

Review 33:It was easy to get to the places we wanted to see, but didn't like Bridgwater town !!!!

Review 34:Not too keen on the entrance to the car park but that can't be helped - structure cannot be changed. Had to concentrate on getting through the arch!

Review 35:The breakfasts were delicious. Well cooked and good quality produce. The room we had was very spacious and could easily be made in to a family room. Would definite stay again if in the area.

Review 36:Heating in bathroom on all night - very hot. Couldnt open window as on ground floor. Pity it didnt have a restaurant or bar for evenings.

Review 37:Excellent location with parking, friendly staff. Lovely old building.

Review 38:The stairs upto the room, the sloping bedroom(hubby loved it though). Parking was a bit of a nightmare, although I think our car was the car without a scratch on it after getting it through the gateway into the courtyard

Review 39:Hubby liked the hotel because it was old and quaint and it was across the road from the church. Breakfast was good.

Review 40:bar not open so no atmosphere at night.

Review 41:The largest room in the house far exceeded our expectations. It was rustic, very romantic and very spacious. Had a awesome stay and location good for shopping. Definitely will return in the near future.

Review 42:Double bed was smaller than we are used to and tendency to roll into the middle, Disappointed that the restaurant was closed - not sure if this is temporary or permanent.

Review 43:Well located in centre of town.

Review 44:The wifi was very poor - i don't generally worry but i had work to do!

Review 45:The staff were lovely, the building was extremely old and very historic - we had breakfast in the old vicars office - truly amazing! Beds were comfy, room immaculate and breakfast lovely! If you want the ritz then don't book this hotel but for 99 GBP for 4 of us including breakfast and parking, an absolute bargain!

Review 46:I did not realise that there was wifi as there were no instructions and I tried to connect but couldn't. Information in room re wifi connection would be good

Review 47:Lovely old building, full of characture, staff very friendly and parking off road

Review 48:no water glasses in the room was the least of my worries. This hotel creaks at top volume. so it sounded as though all the early-morning leavers were tramping through my room. Not that I could sleep for the racket of the seagulls (not the hotel's fault), followed by someone pulling out the wheelie bins below my window, followed by the cooing of pigeons in the roof eaves directly above my bed. Ate my entire breakfast with a used and uncleared place setting in front of me on the table. An old building maybe, but a service experience from the last century.

Review 49:Loved everything.. looking forward to the restaurant opening.. but was no problem as plenty of local restaurants too..

Review 50:Charming, friendly, helpful, would definately recommend.. Thank you for a lovely stay.. We hope to be back!!

Review 51:Car parking was a minor issue, couldn't seem to get my car (trajet) into the car park. Also could not seem to access Wi-Fi.

Review 52:Lovely hotel and helpful staff. Breakfast was good.

Review 53:The staff were rushed, the room smelled horrendously, the bathroom was ooold. Every time I flushed the toilet it sounded as if I'm remodelling the bathroom-the noise was horrible. The bed was tiny and very uncomfortable. It was on wheels so that every time is moved the bed moved too. The breakfast was not that good either. Would never stay there again.

Review 54:Initially allocated to a room which was inaccessible to my wife and I - we are both of mature years. However, the room was changed without any fuss, and a ground floor room provided.

Review 55:Comfortable and good value for money. Staff very helpful.

Review 56:bed was hard, pillows were harder. Room tiny, needed steps to get in and out of the shower!! very dated and tired looking. Told it was no longer a hotel but just a BB, wouldn't recommend to anyone to stay there.

Review 57:Horrible smell all over the place, needs updating and deep cleaning. Very late check in time (15.30) and far too early check out time (10.30am). Full English breakfast too fatty. Kettle in the room doesn't work, only one bath towel provided for two adults in a double bedroom. Carpets needs changing.

Review 58:Lovely dinning area.

Review 59:The room needs a little TLC. But didn't spoil our stay.

Review 60:Quirky little hotel. Very efficient man checked us in and seemed to do everything else as well.

Review 61:I rang the hotel I advance as it was our anniversary and I wanted to be sure that we had a room like the one in the photo, I was assured that we did. However although our room had a nice Church view it was really tatty and old fashioned, The net curtains had holes in!

Review 62:The hotel had a lot of character

Review 63:Quite a tight car park. Noisy seagulls at 4am each morning but that is something the local council should deal with.

Review 64:Lovely old place opposite the pretty church. Easy access to the Quantock Hills. Friendly and helpful staff. Room was small but clean and cosy, breakfast of good quality.

Review 65:In need of redecorating. But clean. Noisy seagulls and people partying nearby til early in the morning!

Review 66:The staff were extremely polite and really pleasant. Made to feel really welcome. Excellent evening meal.

Review 67:The room was rather dirty - cobwebs in toilet, black stains in all of the shower grouting which a blast of bleach would correct and stains on the dressing table

Review 68:Staff very friendly and the breakfast portions were generous

Review 69:Very Narrow stairs. Wi-fi didn't work in our room,it worked only where we had breakfast.

Review 70:Near town, you don't need to pick up the car to reach it. Good parking.

Review 71:Had to park outside on the Road, not enough spaces on B&B grounds. Little old fashioned in places and loose tiles in bathroom. Few Staines on the carpet.

Review 72:Quite private large room and a clean looking bed.

Review 73:There was mold all over the bathroom, stains all over the carpet, sojust ended up going straight to bed I also had to retune the tv as therewas no signal and the phone in the room did not work! Wifi had goodconnection but very slow internet speed, could not even load mobileFacebook on the wifi

Review 74:Breakfast was very nice

Review 75:The bathroom was a complete disgrace. The toilet had not been flushed by the previous occupant. The shower flooded. The carpets in the room were filthy and could do with a clean. The room was noisy and could do with some double glazed windows. I did not feel safe.

Review 76:The location was good.

Review 77:Nothing. It was excellent!

Review 78:Everything. The most we liked was the friendly staff of this hotel. They were very helpful everytime we asked for something and very easy to talk to.

Review 79:Clean and comfortable with a good breakfast and pleasant staff, The Old Vicarage is handy for the town centre but our room was quiet enough at night (apart from some noisy gulls!)good value for money and would stay there again.

Review 80:Lack of attention to detail always lets a place down, this isn't the only place where marks on carpets, mould in bathrooms let the place down. There was secondary glazing on the window, but as their door hadn't really been blocked up, if the road had been busier it would have been a noise problem

Review 81:Good location very old with some lovely original features and very friendly staff

Review 82:I couldn't get the free wifi at all. Was woken up at 2.40am by what I assume was a local Club turning out its customers. This disturbance went on, in one form or another, over a period of two hours. The

Review 83:The room was clean and the complementaries sufficient. Our dietary requirements were seen to.

Review 84:Plumbing was a little noisy.

Review 85:Excellent and friendly manager welcomed us late in the evening and helped with cases. Comfortable beds, lovely historic building, excellent breakfast. Would recommend.

Review 86:Room was very dirty shower was mouldy toilet didn't always flush.Everywhere needed a deep clean and redecorating

Review 87:Not much, breakfast was acceptable.

Review 88:The hotel is in dire need of decorating and some basic modernisation, which could be easily done in keeping with its history / period design. The car park entrance is quite challenging; OK for a 14th century cart, but a difficult approach for a large car!

Review 89:The Old Vicarage is a charming hotel with bags of character and, with some sympathetic decoration could be an absolute gem. The staff were very helpful and obliging, the breakfast nicely presented and, all in all, the stay was satisfactory.

Review 90:One bedroom is next to the extraction fans which is a bit noisy. Because it is a wonderfully old and quirky building, some of the rooms are difficult to access with suitcases etc but the staff will help you.

Review 91:The building, the quiet, the pleasant and happy staff. No fuss.

Review 92:The room was far too small for two people, the toilet/shower room ridiculously small and the carpets were marked and dirty.

Review 93:The manager was obliging and the breakfast good

Review 94:could do with a new mattress or base. The two of us rolled towards the middle of bed. Poor sleep. Parking space is very tight for a mid-size car.

Review 95:Good breakfast

Review 96:Given family room ,very strange layout ,I think it must have been used as some sort of private acc as old furniture had been left in there plus thick dust around the edges of the room ,nothing as been moved for a very long time.

Review 97:Polite manager, good quality breakfast, plenty of hot water and clean bedding.

Review 98:Room in need of decorating badly. reception person did not know how hot water worked or extractor fan. Took some time to get all this sorted. At breakfast was served Eggs before Porridge ! Seem very disorganized.

Review 99:Good position in town just opposite great church. Old & interesting building. Great potential where it is if the most made of it.

Review 100:The location is adjacent to many bars/nightspots, which should be noted. The hot water failed due to power outage.

Review 101:Room was spacious and a quiet night

Review 102:Old building with lots of history but in need of some investment and TLC. Rooms and bathrooms need renovation. Standard of comfort offered could be improved. Charming old-fashioned garden needs gardener.

Review 103:All staff were very helpful and friendly - great sense of humour. Breakfast and evening dinner were excellent. Great location in centre of town with free off road parking. All in all exceptional value for money.

Review 104:having to make own tea with teabag in cup!we like to be served freshly brewed tea in teapot at table with breakfast

Review 105:nice size room and bathroom nice garden

Review 106:Requested a quiet room when booking, was given probably the nosiest room, which overlooked the main road, this had a large pothole, windows are not double glazed, so a night without any sleep. Had booked for 2 nights but checked out after one night. Not the cleanest, e.g. window sills dusty, windows had caked on birds mess and the sealant around the shower tray was very mouldy.

Review 107:Some of the more modern furniture was out of place.

Review 108:The over- and - above service provided by Norbert was friendly, knowledgeable, attentive and courteous. The gluten free options were much appreciated.

Review 109:family suite not as described - one bed in adults' room and one in lounge area - not in their own adjoining room which had been blocked off. Terrible condition generally - old failing decor and noisy plumbing. Poor quality furniture. Wifi doesn't work. Parking insufficient and very tight if you can get a space at all. Very poor value for money - you can get much better hotels and B&B for the rate. Breakfast adequate at best.

Review 110:near the M5 and nice spot opposite church but pity about Bridgwater generally.

Review 111:Some of the fixtures and fittings could do with a bit of attention - broken lamp in room for example. Also a bit dusty. Breakfast was a modest offering which is a shame as the local area is a haven for fresh produce. Just needs another 10% effort to make it really special!

Review 112:Characterful property with very central location. Host was pleasant and helpful. Like going back in time, you get the impression every inch has a story to tell.

Review 113:The entire comfort and friendly atmosphere was so enjoyable. I was so blown away by the way that the owners had maintained the architecture of the building yet supplied such a first class accommodation. Well done we will definitely be back

Review 114:My room was extremely cold in the night, I used the spare blanket and put the heater on but I was still shivering

Review 115:The manager was extremely helpful, polite, friendly. The food was outstanding.

Review 116:Not so much a problem with the hotel itself but the website I booked it on should have been more clear that if have to pay up front as I'd believed I'd already paid online.

Review 117:Loved the shower but unfortunately missed the breakfast

Review 118:Ground floor room on roadside very noisy at night (saturday), restaurant closed, room heating not working, moved to smaller room, tiny bathroom, was given not very generous discount!

Review 119:Breakfast good, staff friendly, room clean, limited off street parking.

Review 120:This was our 3rd stay at the Old Vicarage and we had a great time once again. The Staff were extremely helpful and accommodating, the surroundings were lovely and being right in the heart of Bridgwater was another bonus. I had made a mistake with the dates of our booking but even that was no problem for the hotel. We will be back soon for another stay.

Review 121:The hotel was friendly. The room was warm and the bed was very comfortable. The breakfast was very good and I would recommend the hotel. I would stay there again.

Review 122:Wifi range for the children , plus the third bed was in the lounge which we didn't use.

Review 123:Good location , friendly staff who were happy to help us. The family was good and spacious but prefered

Review 124:Kettle in room did not work Uncomfortable mattress! Dirty stains on carpet Dirty stains on bedside cabinet lampshade The room was pokey looked like it had been made by robbing some room from the first floor landing ! Breakfast Sausage was cheap and nasty like the mattress

Review 125:Location

Review 126:Wifi is a bit temperamental but that cant be helped and we were not informed prior that the restaurant was shut for the weekend. So we had to eat out all weekend, lucky the town was so close.

Review 127:Room was good, bed was comfy, food was superb! Right near the town and close to the train station. Lovely area, friendly staff.

Review 128:the bed was on the small side to say it was a double.

Review 129:The parking was easly accessable. All the staff where plesant and helpfull from booking in to booking out. The breakfast was very good and well presented. the room was layed out well with a good size shower unit

Review 130:No heating in the hotel. We had to ask to have heating put on in our bedroom, as it was the 20th December we felt it was very unwelcoming. Would never stay there again and would not recommend the hotel to anyone

Review 131:A hotel full of character and in an excellent location. The staff were friendly and helpful, the room was warm, very clean and the bed comfortable. There was a very strong wifi signal in our room. Breakfast was excellent

Review 132:Old building lights were out in the stairs for one night, also hotel computer playing up although they managed to get our bill OK

Review 133:Very near the shops and restaurants

Review 134:Parking was a bit tight and seemed limited spaces

Review 135:Friendly and helpful young girl at reception and breakfast, good sized room, clean, quaint character of old building(young girl told us a bit of the history of the building), ideal for our stay to see the carnival

Review 136:Double bed was only 4'6" wide. Very hard and sheets not changed while there.

Review 137:The hotel was well situated for the carnival weekend as we could park our car at the hotel and basically just walk to where we wanted to be.
