Reviews for The Winning Post
Review 1:Leaving :-(
Review 2:A must for all pet owners who like to take a break with there pets. We took to dachshunds along with us and couldn't be happier with our garden room.the staff where fantastic with the dogs and us on arrival and during our stay couldn't fault them in anyway.the room was faultless also and believe me we've stayed in many five star hotels that aren't as nice.the food in hotel was fantastic and reasonable priced as where the drinks in our opinion.were definitely booking again :-)
Review 3:Menu quite limited and very expensive for what it was. Breakfast was all to order with no self serve on anything so waiting times quite long when up against the clock.
Review 4:Shower was superb, room warm and comfy
Review 5:The shower wasn't great as it didn't have a hook so I had to sit in the bath and also the tap converter didn't work properly.
Review 6:really comfortable, quiet room and I had a nice meal.
Review 7:Stained carpets in Bedroom and hall ways. Accommodation was described as luxurious, but in reality was ordinary. Rated as four star, but three star standard
Review 8:Bed was comfortable. Food was good but expensive
Review 9:mattress was far too soft, no choice of herbal teas in the room.
Review 10:fridge in the room, bottles of water and fresh milk in room. The restaurant served excellent food, breakfast all served to order from the kitchen.
Review 11:I wouldn't say a bad experience, however, we were 4 in party and ordered simple pub fayre of ham eggs and chips, they did not have enough for 4 of us! and on one day at breakfast they didn't have black pudding. I feel that basics should be in plentiful supply.
Review 12:It was as stated when booking. A comfortable niche pub accommodation, off the beaten track somewhere you'd have to know where it is not for passing trade. Comfortable rooms good linen and plentiful towels. The food we got was good, well cooked and presented. Staff were all friendly and welcoming.
Review 13:The shower above the bath was in a very weird position so that every time you used it the window got drenched. Drinks in the pub expensive.
Review 14:Lovely food available in the pub!
Review 15:Even though it was a great place in an expensive part of the UK, I still felt the price was right at the top end of what was acceptable.
Review 16:Everything! Room, bed, staff, food, location.
Review 17:Nothing
Review 18:Booked for a last min weekend away without kids. Rooms were comfortable and clean, located at the back of a great village pub. We ate in the restaurant on sat which was excellent food and not overpriced. Staff were all brilliant and really helpful. Would certainly book again.
Review 19:Noisy. No insulation could hear all noise from other adjacent rooms above and at side. Plumbing was so noisy as well. Not great customer service when advised of this issue no mention of it at check out or even asked whether we enjoyed our stay. Would not return.
Review 20:Liked the charm of old pub and location to Windsor. It was chosen because it allowed pets.
Review 21:Breakfast - not the food the service or should I say lack of it. I was there for 45 minutes just to get a slice of toast and cup of tea!
Review 22:Peace and quiet, room comfort.
Review 23:Was a lovely pub, most of the staff were friendly and helpful. Ate dinner in the pub and the food was very good. Breakfast was excellent. The lady serving breakfast had been let down by staff, so was rather chaotic, but she was apologetic when we checked out.
Review 24:Room was a little chilly on arrival as radiators had been left on zero.
Review 25:Excellent value, wonderful welcome and traditional English pub/restaurant feel
Review 26:Found breakfast to be a bit disappointing no offer of orange juice or cereal and only allowed to select one item off the menu. Room noisy you could hear the people in the next room especially their hairdryer and the plumbing was also noisy.
Review 27:The location was ideal for our visit to Windsor and also for dropping off our son at Heathrow. Food very good although a limited menu on the Sunday. Room large and clean.
Review 28:The on-site restaurant is overpriced and the portions are not generous, neither is the culinary expertise. Duck salad was mostly a green salad with a few strands of pulled duck. Dinner was a disappointment but not nearly as bad as the breakfast. "Over easy" eggs were burned to a crisp at the bottom and raw on top.
Review 29:Comfortable and clean rooms in a quiet garden setting attached to a pub with real ale.
Review 30:We had a room with 2 single beds as all the doubles were sold out . Still very comfortable .
Review 31:Very welcoming friendly staff really made to feel at home. Excellent breakfast.
Review 32:As other reviews, the evening meal was a mixed bag. Both my wife and i had the belly pork. Plenty of taste but sadly overcooked and rather dry. About a 45 min wait too. Which was a tad long as we had no starters. My daughter had fish and chips which was very nice. Slightly over priced but fare with the area
Review 33:Nice location. Plenty of atmosphere. Room was of a good size. Nice bathroom with very powerful shower. Tea and coffee facilities with milk in the fridge a bonus. Breakfast was excellent
Review 34:Having a young baby, noise from other rooms quite loud, especially the room doors which close automatically but they crash closed not quick just loud
Review 35:Location, quiet secluded, yet minutes drive from attractions.Food excellent, staff welcoming very friendly, as were locals. Nice to have access to a garden from downstairs room.
Review 36:Noise of other doors - all had to be banged shut rather than closed with a door handle..
Review 37:Room very cosy, bed very comfortable; well decorated. Dinner excellent value for money and very tasty. Good, attentive service.
Review 38:The staff were very friendly. We were travelling very late, having just flown in from Australia and we got lost on the way. They stayed on the phone and directed us to the accommodation. Nothing was too much trouble. The accommodation was very comfortable and the breakfast was delicious.
Review 39:One bed in our room was far too soft to get a good nights sleep in.
Review 40:Very friendly owner and i assume it was his son. Lovely peaceful location, quality food.
Review 41:excellent friendly staff, fabulous food , room excellent value for money , lovely atmosphere, love the decor in the bar with the horses heads in the restaurant.
Review 42:Breakfast was not too good. Full English was 2 overcooked fried eggs on over done dry toast with 3 slices of streaky bacon. Disappointing compared with the rest of the experience.
Review 43:Room and facilities. Staff were friendly and helpful. E eni g meal was really good.
Review 44:Noise from shower in neighbouring rooms however my son, aged 9, slept fine!
Review 45:Fantastic location - 10 mins to Legoland (and bonus at the end of the day you travel in opposite direction of traffic queues) and Maidenhead Heritage Centre (spitfire simulator). Staff wonderful - very welcoming, friendly and helpful. Food fabulous and very reasonable - overall exceptional value for money.
Review 46:I had read the reports about the noisy systems... however, I have never heard systems as noisy as this. They kept waking us both throughout the night! Arghhhh!!
Review 47:Great place and ideal for what we needed it for.
Review 48:the only down side as far as we were concerned was we needed the car for everything we had planned. Our fault for not checking the location more carefully
Review 49:the lovely feeling of the pub/restaurant.We came home feeling we had chosen well for our 3 day breakThe room also reflected this
Review 50:The service at breakfast was slow and haphazard but the breakfast itself was nice.maybe due to inexperienced staff.
Review 51:Relaxed atmosphere in a very nice location. Food very good and rooms excellent.
Review 52:I decided to stay at The Winning Post because I had an appointment at 9.30am in Windsor and I didn't want to be late. Breakfast wasn't available until 8am and then took so long to come that we got caught in traffic and I missed the appointment. Just coffee and cereal/toast would have been fine but no help yourself on offer.
Review 53:Everything was perfect - Except...
Review 54:Very Poor WiFi, lots of noise from adjacent room. Outdoor metal furniture provided looks ok, but surface leaves marks on clothing. Lots of airport noise
Review 55:Good location for the purpose of our trip, unlikely to return
Review 56:I was given a room with no shower which for £120 a night is outrages. I reported this and nothing was done. I then ate in the pub area only then to be asked to move tables because locals wanted to use the table. I then retired to my room to be kept awake by occupant in a connecting room with TV on very loud When I asked to speak to the duty manager I was presented with a French gentleman who was intimidating and couldn't care less. Give this place a miss if you are a business traveller. Finally to put this experience into context; I on average work away 3 days per week and this establishment is by far the worst I have experienced
Review 57:serving of breakfast is taking (too) long (and starts late, from 7.30 only) - had a business appointment, and needed to hurry to get there on time; bit stressful
Review 58:atmosphere is very nice, relaxed, friendly
Review 59:Nothing to complain about
Review 60:Stayed for two nights for my birthday we had a fantastic time food was lovely staff were very helpful and friendly can't wait to go again
Review 61:There is a noise in Room 1 which happens about every 15 minutes - it is like a pump or motor going off
Review 62:Food excellent and their own beer was wonderful!!
Review 63:The food in the restaurant was fairly average. The shared starter platter was good, however the main courses had elements which were overcooked and undercooked, indicating timing issues
Review 64:The room was well decorated and had a lovely feel to it
Review 65:No negative points during my stay
Review 66:The staff were fabulous and the food and service was exceptional. Wil definitely be staying there again in the future and would recommend this to my friends.
Review 67:Actually : everything was really nice - great little hotel, very hospitable. Owner was super friendly, a small bite (some excellent cheese) was put at my room, as I arrived too late to have dinner. Together with a glass of wine, it made for a fine evening still !! Definitely worth to return to !
Review 68:You could sometimes hear the people in the next room. You could hear the water running/being used in the morning.
Review 69:Food was out of this world Lovely staff Lovely setting Rooms were well cared for Bathrooms were clean and fresh
Review 70:Staff not willing to serve breakfast slightly earlier even though most rooms requested this !. A little disorganised.
Review 71:Location, Pet Friendly, Clean Room, nice facilities, nice decor, lovely food.
Review 72:No mini bar in room Very over booked, cramped dining room. Staff somewhat over attentive..will hover and take away your empty plates before you catch your breath.
Review 73:Quiet, comfortable rooms Excellent food. Great wine list. Fabulous breakfast... No buffet, perfect service to the table. Just how it should be. First class.
Review 74:nothing
Review 75:bed was comfy and staff very friendly. Breakfast and evening meal top quality. Thoroughly enjoyed the log fire and atmosphere after a day at Ascot.
Review 76:Initially was put in a twin room despite booking a double. Error corrected quickly however.
Review 77:Nice, well decorated rooms, comfortable bar area with excellent food. Shower was very powerful
Review 78:Food service is slow. We had dinner at the pub/restaurant attached to the B&B and the food only arrived in three quarters of an hour. Breakfast took half an hour to be served.
Review 79:The decor and the environment is simply lovely. We needed a quiet countryside getaway and this was perfect. Requested for lower level adjourning rooms and they were graciously given to us. The staff was friendly and attentive. I would definitely recommend this place!
Review 80:The only small point was that the room we were staying in (Room 1) must have been sited near a pump which on occasions during the night could be quite noisy.
Review 81:Rooms were very nicely furnished and spotlessly clean. Plenty of tea/coffee/and other beverages - fridge and 'real' milk. Bed was very comfortable. Really liked the way the French doors opened from the room onto the garden. Bathroom was very clean and warm. Nice toiletries. Food in restaurant was superb - our compliments to the Chef! (The food was exceptional both evening and at breakfast) The staff were very polite, helpful and friendly and were able to give useful advice about the local area. Parking was easy and there was plenty of space. Looking forward to returning here soon.
Review 82:Nothing not to like!
Review 83:This small hotel in Windsor is in a beautiful location, close to Heathrow, Windsor Castle,Ascot and Legoland. It has an intimate feel and is in a quiet, peaceful location but has all the facilities of a 5 star hotel. The restaurant delivered fine dining in it's 18th century building and staff were friendly and attentive.
Review 84:The television was a little bit small considering how far from the bed it was .... Minor point though !
Review 85:The pub itself seemed really nice but we didn't get a chance to eat there as we were off to the races ! The room was lovely , nicely put together , very clean - and the breakfast had the best scrambled eggs I've had in a long time!
Review 86:I thought the breakfast was a little disappointing. What we had was nice. But to limit it to one item was very tight. At the very least toast, fruit and yogurt should of been available on a side table. For the price of the room i felt it let the whole experience down. Plus of course breakfast is your last part of your stay so it sticks in your mind. It left me with the feeling that it was very tight money wise and perhaps taking advantage.
Review 87:The room and food
Review 88:Needs a shower over bath to get a 10+
Review 89:Good Pub fare! Great breakfast, in fabulous old Pub. Room was clean, nice comfy bed with plenty of space...& quiet.
Review 90:Bed very uncomfortable - a big dip in the middle
Review 91:Have eaten here many times over the last 20 years, but this time the restaurant lacked buzz and the service was slow (despite being quiet). Price is at the very top end for the quality of the rooms / establishment.
Review 92:-absolutely nothing!
Review 93:-food excellent -rooms clean -nice showers -quiet -good location to airport, Windsor, Eton -staff friendly and helpful -sitting outside to dine a bonus -nice adjoining rooms for families
Review 94:Curtains/blinds fell down when I tried to close them and room was too warm. Very minor things in an all round excellent experience.
Review 95:Fantastic food and drink. Staff very accommodating and child friendly. Will definitely return. Perfect place to spend a night before/after a long haul flight, I'm never staying at an airport hotel again.
Review 96:Not enough butter with toast!
Review 97:Comfortable and spacious room, great food friendly staff. Would have booked a second night but unfortunately they were full! Hope to visit again a great find!
Review 98:No negatives from my point of view.
Review 99:Good location, close enough to Windsor but peaceful at the same time. Very comfortable and well appointed bedroom. Fantastic evening meal and breakfast, would highly recommend it.
