Reviews for Rock n Bowl

Review 1:I only stayed one night, but it was a very pleasant stay. The kitchen was well equipped and the chill out areas were spacious. The people were all very friendly. I would definitely recommend this hostel!

Review 2:Room was unclean when we arrived- empty water bottles and tissues on floor and stained carpet. Sheets were clean though (phew!). We realized quickly that we wouldn't want to stay here. I'm sure for a bed in a dorm this hostel is fine, but the double room was disappointing, unclean and overpriced. Receptionist wouldn't refund us to allow us to find alternative accommodation - even though we were willing to stay the first night and pay for it. Just know that if you book here and you don't like it then you're stuck with it. Personally I wouldn't take the gamble, I'd just spend a bit more and get a hotel. Also of note was the state of the showers nearest our room- we discovered a massive clump of hair left on the ledge and it really put us off. I know there were more showers available and I've done the backpacking/hostel scenario many times before - but I've also stayed in a double room at a hostel before and got more value for the money I paid.

Review 3:Location

Review 4:Having not stayed in a hostle in the UK before the 'breakfast included' was a bit misleading. This may because it is the norm to just provide toast, tea, coffee and juice, which was in fact very nice but I was expecting more.

Review 5:Booked last minute after we decided that we wanted to go out after a meal in Bristol. Easy, clean and comfy beds. Shame about the snorers in the shared dorm but earplugs were provided. Would definitely use again

Review 6:Dirty guests leaving a hell of a mess for the staff. Still they were doing a really good job cleaning up. I felt really bad for them though because it is a hostel yes but you can still keep it tidy.

Review 7:Bathrooms far away from bedroom! Bedrooms very plain, not even any hooks or shelves to hang your things up. The bed is very comfortable though !!

Review 8:The location is amazing! Everything is so close by and you're right in the middle of the city! The shopping streets, Stokes Croft and St.Nicholas Market all a very short walk from the Hostel! Really friendly and helpful staff! The people at reception were really smiley and welcoming :) Good value for money! Rooms are very simple but have all you need if you're just going for a short while! Happy with my stay!

Review 9:The emergency light in the bedroom was very bright and right over our beds. The plug socket next to my bed had the holes filled in. The room wasn't very well ventilated. The staff weren't always available or friendly. The secure cupboard, which was the only place we could leave valuables, was shared and didn't feel particularly secure, although we had no problem.

Review 10:The bedrooms were clean. The kitchen was well equipped and had an open feeling. The beds were comfy and the £1 charge for a towel resulted in a large, fluffy towel. The included breakfast was a nice addition.

Review 11:Chair was broken on the smoking terrace, Some bedrooms have an issue with sound from the bowling alley.

Review 12:Friendly understanding Staff, Comfortable beds, and a property that is well cleaned

Review 13:The placemebt if the private rooms are rigt next to the stairs and the game room so u can hear ppl walkigand talking all night, not very private and the bathroom showers were very "cheap" and we had no sign sayig "hostwl this way"

Review 14:Beds were very comfortable and staff at night was lovely

Review 15:Very noisy location.

Review 16:The overall rating depends mainly on your purpose of stay. If you want to be in the city center and go out it is perfectly located, however if you want to get some good sleep I would not recommend it. The staff was very nice and they try to keep cleaning facilities clean even though it was diffucult as there were a lot of people staying. The good thing you can leave your luggage there as well.

Review 17:They do say it's loud in the description, I was warned :-) above a karaoke bar with the dorm window open, still slept fine

Review 18:Friendly helpful staff, good facilities, central location

Review 19:It was just a bit grotty, communal areas / stairways smelled smoky, only 1 plug socket in the room, free 'breakfast' was toast. On a weekend after a certain time you can't use the bar/restaurant downstairs as 'private' club nights are held in there with a cover charge. I've stayed in hotels that are so much nicer than this hotel for way less money!

Review 20:Close to city centre

Review 21:Toilets really dirty at any time. Worst and poorest breakfast I ever had, only white bread, cheap jam , basic cereals.

Review 22:Good position. Cheap accommodation.

Review 23:There was too much noise outside the room because of a construction area. I woke up very early.

Review 24:The management was very professional. They compensated me because I had an unpleasant experience

Review 25:Building and facilities difficult to keep clean. Central location, but noise not conducive to sleep, especially but not exclusively at weekends.

Review 26:Staff very helpful

Review 27:If you're in for english breakfast you have to make your own. The included one is very basic.

Review 28:Perfect located in city centre, cheap priced but no cheap set-up. Loved the inside "street art"

Review 29:Having to wait 20 minutes at reception to check in at a 24/7 reception and other people making a lot of noise in room whilst trying to sleep got woken up 3 times between 10-12pm

Review 30:Great location to city center, aquarium, museum, and Colston Hall

Review 31:toilets and showers are in the same room

Review 32:the decor was amazing i loved all the wall paintings, plenty of sofas to chill and computer space. good tv and spacious kitchen. perfect location

Review 33:Below our room was a discotheque playing music until 3am which made sleeping impossible. Management refused any responsibility as this is mentioned in the booking.com fine print. But it would be impossible to move this information in the main hotel description text. This is really ridiculous and fraud! Bathrooms needed more cleaning, shower wasn't really warm.

Review 34:located in the center, nice backpacker atmosphere

Review 35:Nothing

Review 36:Friendly staff, clean facilities, artistic painting, many showers and good free-wifi. 5minits walk from coach station. The best hostel in my experience . I recommend here!

Review 37:I liked that this hostel is near many bus stops so I was able to travelfree on my bus pass from Temple Meads and around Bristol. It's alsoeasy walking distance to many attractions. Ear plugs were issued onarrival. It was Saturday pm and, I was on the 1st floor, the music fromthe nearby dancefloor was as if in the room but I enjoyed it. Every songa good'un. Didn't bother with the ear plugs & higher up isquieter if that's what you want.

Review 38:Was really tired one night, but couldn't sleep very well as the place has got a music venue downstairs. Which i suppose it could be a good thing in way ;) and in the morning the building site in front of our window was noisy

Review 39:The place is so cool! I'd recommend going. Love the venue (was free for us as guests at the hostel) Plus Kettle, tea and coffee in the room.

Review 40:Showers should be cleaner.

Review 41:Great location, offers discounts on pizza (great pizza, I'm a foodie) and free bowling. A big kitchen if you fancy cooking, pub is nice and the beer garden is good too.

Review 42:Some guests were noisy troublemakers, and staff made no effort to keep them in check at night.

Review 43:Great location. Good common facilities. Nice atmosphere overall.

Review 44:no idea how to turn on the radiator and no assistance available to refer to(partly because i arrived too late)

Review 45:when i arrived i had already miss the checkin time but the reception had made a very wise plan-B to solve this problem!have to say i am very grateful for what they have done!

Review 46:i have a big complaint about the noise which i was never informed about. i will be emailing them later to request a refund.my reason 2visit bristol was 2attend a 3day dance festival so i wanted to feel on top form and rested for the bands i would see. i had 2hrs sleep fri nite the noise from outside bar 2floors below ending at 4.30am.i complained at reception and was told this party was every fri and sat nite. i felt physically sick most of sat due to exhaustion, i booked another hostel for sat nite, and was able to sleep there.i hope they return the money i spent that night, 18pounds and the nite i did not stay at rock and bowl.i was misled i feel i would never have booked if i was told of noisy parties in the early hours.

Review 47:Showers are of the type where a toilet, sink and shower are in one tiny cubicle.I can see their making the best of their situation but I don't like it.

Review 48:12 bed dorm was a lovely bright airy room.Staff very nice.big kitchen.nice building

Review 49:The weekend noise; fortunately it stopped after 2:30 am.

Review 50:The central location is very convenient. I also found the combination with the bowling center.interesting.

Review 51:Be careful for the weekends, is laisure and noisily zone, with many clubs, one under the hostel. The rooms of the ground floor don't have shower, you must go up to the first floor.

Review 52:Location, city centre

Review 53:All of it! Don't expect to get any sleep, most of the dorms back onto bars at the back which are noisey through the night and early morning. They have no lockers so your stuff isnt safe! they have a big cupboard you can put your stuff in...along with everyone else staying so defeats he objects. Beds are rock hard and pillows thin as paper. It was cold and dark in the rooms. The place was full of wierdos and the staff are stereotype hippie travellers

Review 54:Getting to check out, the only positive thing I can say was that it was clean

Review 55:The communal facilities such as the kitchen and toilets where very good. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay. Much nicer and cheaper than the £140 per night alternative at the holiday inn

Review 56:Staying on a Saturday we were forwarned about about the late night music which certainly rocked the building until 3am. Ear plugs were offered. I slept through it all though my partner was more sound sensitive. Not a complaint and if we were younger we'd been likely to have relished it, but something to be aware of.

Review 57:Excellent city centre location for a budget price. Basic but very clean and well managed. Loved the art graffitti.

Review 58:Noise is expected as it was a dormitory type; but as a whole, it was tolerable and I had a good sleep.

Review 59:It is central and good value for money for a hostel standard.

Review 60:Not a fan of sharing a room with strangers. Never visited or seen a hostel in my life. Instead of staying in the hostel, I slept in my car (even after paying £25).

Review 61:French lady on check in/out desk - friendly and well mannered. The lady who showed us to our rooms - friendly well mannered and beautiful. I fell in love all over again from the second she smiled. I would return just to say I love her. (Could of been French with Spanish skin tone).

Review 62:Showers are on the top floor, and only 3 cabins are convenient to use. Had problems to connect to wifi using smartphone, but with laptop was ok

Review 63:I really nice atmosphere, good people, huge kitchen, video games, bar - lot's of cool places to meet other folks.

Review 64:I was unlucky to have an early morning flight on Sunday morning and the music was booming loud just below the room all night, people coming in drunk and making noise in the room right until I had to get up at 4.30am. I understand it was Saturday night but a hostel should be where people rest, it's not a club...

Review 65:Good location.

Review 66:The noise from downstairs on Fridays and Saturdays is horrendous. Be sure to use earplugs and you'll be fine. The front desk has them available. The big rooms can be smelly sometimes.

Review 67:The staff is ever so friendly and the atmosphere is positive and energetic. The showers have great flow and are always warm. Plenty opportunity to relax, play, work on your laptop and mingle with the international crowd. Wifi is excellent and free.

Review 68::) it was great.

Review 69:We had made some hectic "where is my lost phone" call to the hostel after we left, they were extremely helpful in helping us to look at the possible places where we would've dropped it. Thank you!!!

Review 70:In my large dorm room, power outlets were not at the beds (but were available along the outside walls of the room.

Review 71:The bowling alley pub place downstairs was cool; nice sizeable kitchen, plus nice sizeable lounge area.

Review 72:Too noisy if u want to sleep on day time doesn't seem so clean

Review 73:One tall guy at the reception don't know how to talk with customers was rude and the lady at the reception was very polite

Review 74:The showers are separate independent units with toilets but there are no separate toilets which is inconvenient in case all units are engaged. There are live concerts in the adjacent bar, nevertheless with the ear plugs you will be fine.

Review 75:The rooms were nice, the bed comfortable, nice people, good location, good kitchen facilities.

Review 76:It can be noisy at night especially if you are staying on a saturday night, the bar below played loud music until about 3.30am and our room was just above that! The showers were upstairs and could have been cleaner but still good standards for a hostel

Review 77:The staff were really friendly, the hostel had really good facilities offering free pingpong and a good bar below the hostel

Review 78:The person in charge of the bar downstairs and the bowling was particularly unpleasant. Never offered a smile and refused any help when the bowling was not working, he would barely take our orders. The hostel was awfuly noisy, especially as our dorm was in the kitchen hallway, which means that anytime someone was coming through that door (every two minutes all night), our dorm room was banging. The staff was unhelpful except for one French girl who went out of her way to be helpful and nice.

Review 79:Very well situated and a lot of people of all horizons

Review 80:Bathrooms were really depressing to use, no mirror in the room, could feel the bed springs on my back when I laid in bed, window blinds were super dusty and there's only one hairdryer, but it's spoilt!

Review 81:Really good location

Review 82:No showers on ground floor. You could hear the bowling on the lanes in the bedroom while trying to sleep.

Review 83:Loved the communal room and the free bowling on monday. Staff was really nice.

Review 84:The hostel achieves an excellent balance between liveliness and privacy. The facilities are all clean and pleasant. The other guests are very considerate. And there is a general air of welcome. It's perfectly located in the middle of the city and the staff are always cheerful and helpful.

Review 85:The shower rooms include toilet, sink and shower, which make them always wet and smelly. Not very pleasant hygiene conditions. Hair dryer on the floor I stayed was broken as well.

Review 86:Helpful staff. Emails were sent to us before arrival with very clear directions and useful info. Appreciate its large kitchen with many utensils provided.

Review 87:There's an amazing atmosphere in this place. Friendships seem to flourish easily and in weeks here I haven't seen any arguments. The staff work really hard – the cleaning goes on continuously around you, vacuuming, floors washed every night, toilets and showers constantly cleaned, toilet rolls replaced, fresh towels hung. They're friendly but direct, which is good, and reliable. They do what they say will do and if they can't do it, they tell you.

Review 88:WiFi signal is not good. Showers and toilets are not that clean because there are a lot guests.

Review 89:I stay in the 4 female dorm, the mattress is quite comfortable. The location is good. Common area is big.

Review 90:People who go out drunk and came back disturbed others who have to go work in the morning. Also people take their belongings and leave it in the walk way of the room, if fire we would be trapped.

Review 91:The girls at front desk very professional.

Review 92:Really loud on the weekends, on friday killer party extremely loud, up to 4 am.

Review 93:Close to the queen's square, cheap and a lot of facilities such as pingpong, bowling and lots of friendly people on the balcony

Review 94:Only one problem which is the info given states there is free parking on two streets however this isnt the case at all so ended up parking in the NPC next door which was fine. Not an issue for us however this info should be changed.

Review 95:Perfect location in the heart of Bristol! Above a bar with courtyard, bowling alley, pizza place and amazing cocktails! Basic but more than comfortable and value for money.

Review 96:The showers are hard to find and are in the same room as toilets, so they smelt and were a bit gross.

Review 97:I liked the kitchen, and chill area. The place had a great amosphere and brilliant wifi. It's in a great location between the bus station and key Bristol tourist sights.

Review 98:In my 1 week in this poundland place, where with efforts I could resits, I found out that the place suffer from accute misser, as the building is a very old one, presumly with risk of distruction, the walls look like in a suburby, with turists accordingly and from the staff perspectives I asked to move in other room as I was just me and couple of drunked males, and I received the answer from the receptionist, actually was the manager of the place, that they cannot give me other place as is everything booked, even if on booking they have aviability and their staff started to be rude with me as I did nt wash my dishes and asked me for couple of coins for that. So my vacation was simmilar with an E division footbal match in the most cheap place from the arena. Conclusion, one after another, if you want to be brutalised by a manager and the staff from Rock and Ball, and ending your vacation in a poundland place with poundland peoples that you don t want them around, maybe you can put yourself together in your mind with the homless beggers from the streets, try to come there.

Review 99:Only negative side, because of the location it can be noisy in the morning if you enjoy a lie in! And the building site opposite doesn't help - but that it temporary.

Review 100:Clean, welcoming, friendly helpful staff - plenty of space to relax and enjoy the atmosphere. All the facilities you need, central location. 10/10!

Review 101:The incredibly loud music from the bar underneath played til 3am. The bathrooms were really clean but stunk like high powered bleach and disinfectant.

Review 102:Great location and the staff were really nice.

Review 103:The place was very dirty. I could not even brush my teeth or have a shower. The bad room was dirty and there were wet towels on the floor. The place is run down. There is nothing in the room to hang up your clothes or jacket, not even a chair. One bright light on the ceiling, no individual lights.

Review 104:Staff was very friendly. Big kitchen. Free filter coffee in the morning.

Review 105:beds vibrate with the bass coming from the night club downstrairs But nothing I would have not expected

Review 106:Good coffee in the morning Convenient for someone who is just looking for a bed, shower and place to keep stuff on a small break with a definite plan

Review 107:I loved everything about the Rock n Bowl from the moment I stepped in! Great staff, great location, great facilities, great building.....clean, spacious, comfortable...just stay here, you will love it!

Review 108:In the room we heard all the party music and banging of the dancing dudes from downstairs - until 2 or 3 am that night

Review 109:The bed are quite comfortable, security is good with the card system.

Review 110:Nothing bad to say about this place. If your looking for a cheap placeto stay with good vibes this is the one!!!

Review 111:The staff here were amazing. Recommending places to head out for a goodnight and very welcoming upon arrival. The people who stay here were allon the same level, dead friendly and chatty. Me and my friend stayed ina mixed dorm of 20 people, it was very spacious and relaxed. Bathroomswere great, private showers had a cubicle of toilet and shower. Amazingsmoking terrace to have a chat with others staying. Also discountedpizza which we didn't actually managed to eat because we were sobusy. Great little pub just around the corner and insanely centrallocation!!!! Cant fault this place. Will be returning again next year.

Review 112:tea and coffee runs out if you don't get it quick Have to walk up 2 flights of stairs to get to the shower but it's not so bad

Review 113:grear location walkable to all city attractions Fairly secure nice guests and staff groovy place

Review 114:Lovely place in the middle of Bristol. I had trouble finding it because it wasn't actually on Nelson Street. 20 beds in a room almost all full but the room was quiet. The common room and bowling rooms were noisey and it's not a good place to get an early night but great if you want to party and meet people.

Review 115:In the common area of kitchen/dining area, the smell of cooking was overpowering/ not fantasic. This may have been because so many different nationalities were using it (which is a positive thing) and cooking various types of food. I did not use it myself but it was very spacious and organised and fairly clean.

Review 116:great location, great common areas, I did not use kitchen myself but it was very spacious and organised and fairly clean.

Review 117:The first night I stayed on the second floor, I took up the offer for free ear plugs. But they didn't really help with the extremely badly smelling guy sleeping in the top bunk. Or the fact that the bed was super squeaky. The next night was a smaller room, level one though..and on a Saturday night. Let me tell you, the ear plugs don't stop the room from shaking due to the music downstairs.

Review 118:The location was amazing. So central. So easy to get to, a short walk to Stokes Croft, Wharfside and St Nics markets, the train station too.

Review 119:The noise from the night club on the lower level of the property especially on the Saturday night I stayed. It was worse than loud!

Review 120:Great location, value for money and very helpful staff.

Review 121:This was by far the most disgusting and dirty hostel we've ever been to. We stayed in a four beds room - the WIFI in the room wasn't working, which was the least problem. The hostel is located in the middle of the nightlife area of Bristol - even with closed windows it is impossible to sleep before 3am, because of the noise outside. Moreover, there were only a few private bathrooms around, which were not cleaned at all. It was a challenge to take a shower without touching anything in the shower boxes (yes, boxes!!) The whole hostel was covered in a terrible smell - mostly of urine!

Review 122:definitely NOTHING!

Review 123:There were a few glaring cleanliness issues and a lack of shower cubicles for the amount of people using them. The kitchen is relatively small and difficult to use when others are also using it.

Review 124:The hostel has a great vibe that puts you at ease immediately. The beds were more than adequate for a good sleep. The staff are helpful and allowed me to change from a loud room to a quieter one. Stay here to meet new people and relax in a homely environment.

Review 125:The living room was repairing not much public space for many people. If you find a place to sleep, I don't recommend this hostel. When they have a party, it was very noisy til very late night. The shower wasn't convenient.

Review 126:The location is very city center, the staffs are nice and the price is quite cheap.

Review 127:someone come to our room very late, just sleep for a night but didn't put his name card. we even dont know he is staff or guest, feel not very safe.

Review 128:people live in there are really nice

Review 129:The heating unfortunately didn't turn on when it was cold at evening/night, but it was on at noon. And the room could have a quick spring clean as there's dust on some surfaces.

Review 130:The communal kitchen area has a very friendly atmosphere, everyone was friendly and staff were very helpful! On Mondays guests even get free use of the bowling lanes downstairs!

Review 131:The bed was too soft and bended in the middle. The bathrooms were sort of clean.

Review 132:The staff was very helpful. Proximity to the city centre. Clean linen and room.

Review 133:The management is simply horrible. They treat people, even their own workers, like disposable way of income and cannon fodder. They have zero consideration for the guests, moving them from one room to another when they feel it. Some receptionists are extremely apathetic and have an arrogant attitude. There are signs with threats to bill you for anything everywhere. There is just no management there, it's some kind of a madhouse with zero organisation or logical sense, which gets fully booked just because of the inmigrants from crisis torn countries and the nightmarish real estate market in Bristol.

Review 134:The volunteers are really good people. Also some of the long term guests. They deserve a better place.

Review 135:Absolutely no use for people who want to sleep before 2 am, if you get a room above the bar. I was on floor 2 but even with earplugs, I could hear every title! The prices should really reflect this. 25 quid for a sleepless night is too much and there was neither an adequate warning during booking nor did the staff point this out clearly.

Review 136:Good location, friendly staff, big room, enough showers etc.

Review 137:It appears that some other guests are not travellers but residents from certain lifestyles, gave the place an edgy feel. Woken up at just after 7 by building work then to cap it off checked my bank statement and found I've been overcharged by £10!

Review 138:I liked the location
