Reviews for Château De La Motte Fenelon
Review 1:Location somewhat compromised by situation in a private park in a suburb of Cambrai
Review 2:Grand salons with classic chateau decor. Restaurant well frequented although we arrived too late to sample the cuisine.
Review 3:Beware of lack of Sunday evening restaurant - McDonald's is a challenging drive.
Review 4:Real French Château with suit of armour on the landing. Fine cuisine in the basement restaurant.
Review 5:The staff were extremely helpful in printing out our work-related contracts, scanning them and then sending them on. The buildings and park are outstanding and the food in restaurant "109" better than good!
Review 6:Difficult to find late, no signs. Rooms in orangerie not so charming., conference-style. No towels in room. Entrance not clean, a little forgotten
Review 7:Beautiful old house and orangerie. Lovely park. Quiet.
Review 8:Short on towels. Restaurant more pretentious than its capabilities can justify. Pointing out incorrectly cooked food and lack of towels resulted in no reaction.
Review 9:The room was lovely, very elegant, the bed was comfortable but oh my goodness the pillows were hard. Told the man in reception and said i would bring my own next year. Joking apart it meant we didn't sleep well at all and after my husband having driven 5-6 hours he was very tired. Also we didn't think it was such a varied menu as we've had in the past.
Review 10:We have stayed here several times before. The history of the building is interesting. If you don't have SatNav then not easy to find. We had a Prestige Room this time and will go for that again next year on journey going and return journey.
Review 11:Although big not Deluxe room by any stretch of the imagination Hard pillows and no choice. Public areas very dusty. Restaurant over rated. Surly maître de who fussed over some guests and not others. Food OK but pretentious. Hotel difficult to find and a long way from any other facilities in Cambrai Decided against expensive breakfast after previous evenings experience and other reviews prefer Paul's on nearest services on A26
Review 12:Small double but comfortable bed. Female afternoon staff.
Review 13:The lift only goes to the first floor and we were on the second
Review 14:The room was excellent with a view over the Chateau gardens. The food was the best we had during the two week holiday, it was wonderful.
Review 15:Our room was in a separate building but we walked past it as no entrance lights or signs. As it was dark it would have good to have been shown by someone. Windows dirty in breakfast room. Brick dust on skirting a in restaurant. The sill behind the sliding window in our bathroom had not been cleaned for a long time as there were a lot of dead flies and dirt. Grounds rather run down.
Review 16:Bedding good quality. Good strong shower. Friendly receptionists. Restaurant food well presented and tasty.
Review 17:A little down-at-heel. Clean but somewhat worn.
Review 18:Charming French Chateau hotel in quiet, green surroundings. The picture is from my room in the Orangerie at my late arrival.
Review 19:This hotel needs some maintenance to the rooms and building.
Review 20:Nice historic setting, although the building is looking a bit shabby and could do with some extra work to tidy it up. The room was comfortable, although a bit old fashioned with some room maintenance needed.
Review 21:They are not set up to handle guests that arrive by train like we did. They did not offer any sort of shuttle service.
Review 22:Beautiful hotel with fine facilities. Very helpful reception desk personnel.
Review 23:No bar, had to order drinks at reception, came as lukewarm beer and ice in gin and tonic. Very little staff.
Review 24:The restaurant was nice, although steak inedible.
Review 25:room supposed to be deluxe but was basic, hair dryer did not work .Restaurant expensive, food average, dessert frozen solid.
Review 26:Nice building.Good breakfast.
Review 27:Had to wait 15 mins at 10pm to secure access through entrance gates. Relies on sensors that do not detect a quiet motorbike. Why not have a bell to ring just in case the technology fails?
Review 28:Convenient stop from Calais in historic house.
Review 29:We were in the orangery which is a separate section to the main house. There was a stale odour through out. The bed was a small double bed. No double glazing of the windows so this would be hot in the summer & cold in winter.
Review 30:Bathroom had a bath. Grounds appeared well cared for.
Review 31:Booked this hotel to be closer to Calais for the euro tunnel home. All was good to start off with until we both had a very uncomfortable feeling. It doesn't show the huge metal fence surrounding the building and the police was patrolling the area. People going past on quads and the English car was getting a lot of attention. On that note we only stayed for around 2 hours and booked a earlier euro tunnel home so didn't spend the night there.
Review 32:Location,damp bedroom in orangery which was very small, rude staff, poor service and damp dining room that had such slippery floors that 3people fell over...just truly awful experience and so expensive for the experience
Review 33:Nothing
Review 34:More could be made of the lawns, i.e. some tables and chairs for guests to relax in the garden would be good
Review 35:Lovely huge light and airy room with beautiful modern large bathroom with Jacuzzi bath. Breakfast was good.
Review 36:Breakfast was the worst we experienced on our travels through There was very little choice and it was poor quality. Because the evening meal had been so delicious, we were anticipating the same high standard. Hmmm!
Review 37:Dinner Quiet bedroom, quiet grounds Beautiful public rooms. Very formal, but attentive staff
Review 38:Breakfast was too simple, with very limited selections. Room cleanlyness could have been better.
Review 39:Nice chateau hotel quietly located in the outskirts of the city, reasonably priced. Good restaurant in the hotel.
Review 40:In the OrangeryThere is a step on the landing on the way to our bedrooms. Not easy to see with the pattern of the carpet. Needs a little strip or something to show it up .
Review 41:Nice place , nice staff. Comfortable and convenient. For city centre and other sites around the city.
Review 42:no anti-slipping mat in the bath
Review 43:Where to start! The staff is very friendly, the room is spotless and the bed is a dream to sleep in. Wonderfull diner in the cellar restaurant with a delightful maitre.
Review 44:The WiFi in the Orangerie was weak, as was the TV. Only single glazed so a bit noisy, may be cool in the winter. The directions were OK until road names ceased. There is also another Charron Road that the sat nav took us to, the hotel then took a bit of finding!
Review 45:The building, the grounds, the staff. Probably might stay there again.
Review 46:All good
Review 47:Very friendly staff , made a great effort to speak English to us & especially Mathiue who gave us great info about the chateaux even though it was late in the evening & showing us around .
Review 48:The restaurant was closed and we had to spend a lot of time in town looking for food, which spoiled our enjoyment of the Chateaux. We feel we paid hotel prices for B&B facilities.
Review 49:The bedroom
Review 50:The bed was hard and get rid of the mini bar and put tea and coffee making facilities there instead.
Review 51:Friendly staff, lovely grounds for walking our dog.
Review 52:Slightly dated interior of rooms in orangerie annex
Review 53:very friendly welcome, great meal which was a little on the pricey side, very comfortable bed in a quiet location
Review 54:The meal in the basement, fantastic space, table settings and waiter dressed 5 star, however service was arrogant and non existent , made our experience forgettable
Review 55:The chateau is an amazing building
Review 56:Further off the peage than ideal for a stop over.
Review 57:Booked online from peage at 10.20pm, arrived 11 pm. Friendly welcome and happy to bring us tea and wine. Rooms confortable. Main hotel a period gem. Unusual and memorable stopover. Late booking was great value for money.
Review 58:The pillows were too soft/worn out? Full tea/coffee making as standard not provided. Stairs.
Review 59:The immediate surrounding lawns and house are impressive. The staff are conversant in English and very pleasant. The accommodation was clean.
Review 60:Complete absense of "front of house" ie no one to greet/ show rooms/ dining area/ breakfast area. Super reception staff in office - but they need support.
Review 61:Time capsule. Genuine feel of latter day grandeur. Wonderful Dining - beautifully presented, priced appropriately! Superb Reception Desk prior to visit and during. There were 7 of us in the group aged 81 down to 16 ( with disability) occupying 4 rooms in the Orangerie. The Chateau is glorious, but HAVE to say reminded us of " Fawlty Towers" à la française !
Review 62:Easy driving distance from Calais Ferry port. My first time in France and I didnt want to drive too far to a hotel or have to navigate French roads for the first time in a large city. Cambraii was an excellent place to cut my teeth! Hotel was clean and practical. Room was a a little small and pokey in comparison to others I have stayed in within the same price range. Basic amenities not in the room. ie. kettle and Coffee!!
Review 63:- At arrival we were asked to remove our car from the parking of the chateaux and move it to the smaller parking at the gate of the property, were our room was situated in a smaller builing. I don't understand why; - The staff at the restaurant was unprofessional: when asked if we could order our dessert after our main course, this whas impossible, because, according to the male waiter, " the chef is a woman, and you know how women are". The female waiter appeared very stressed, which made us feel uncomfortable and stressed as well. After dinner we wanted to sit in the lobby, which should be open untill 23:00 (why would you even close down the lobby?). However, at 22:30 is was already closed. When we asked why, the male waiter didn't appologise, but stated it was a management decision. So we sat down in the smaller lobby, were the waiter proceeded to engage the dishwasher. Because our conversation was inaudible, we decided to just go to bed then. - Dinner was dissapointing, especially given the price point; - Compared to Chateaux La Fleunie, whre we also stayed and which is fantasic (for the same price), this chateaux has a lot to learn!
Review 64:- Beautiful chateaux; - Nice surroundings and close to Brantome;
Review 65:Tired rooms (but generally clean apart from mould around the bath). Thin towels For a Brit no good tv channels (only BBC news) No facilities for making a drink
Review 66:Staff friendly, breakfasts ok. The town is quite nice but too far to walk. Clean firm beds. The chateau is very pleasant but most guest rooms are in the orangery outside. Its grounds are spacious but the area outside a bit industrial
Review 67:Restaurant expensive but a pleasant way to spend an evening. Orangery rooms not as impressive as the main house.
Review 68:Easy to find with sat nav. Impressive exterior and grounds. Very good value for money. Comfortable room in the Orangery. Restaurant very French - probably not to everyone's liking.
Review 69:The surrounding area is not as salubrious as the Chateau itself.
Review 70:The Chateau is like a time capsule. An amazing building with a superb restaurant in the cellar. A good stopping point when travelling to visit war graves and battle fields.
Review 71:No coffee/tea making facilities in the room
Review 72:Surroundings. Breakfast was lovely and it was really nice to be in such grand rooms for it. Cleanliness of the rooms and helpful staff
Review 73:very agreable to find a place like this in a rather small town like Cambrai. old fashion French hotel in a beautiful small castle. and the restaurant le 109 is also surprisingly nice.
Review 74:Not very clean
Review 75:Historical aspect, nice and helpfull staff
Review 76:2nd time on this hotel. In two words, pure luxury.
Review 77:breakfast poor, tables not cleared; no outside lighting at Orangerie.
Review 78:Good location, quiet and attractive surroundings; chateau well restored
Review 79:Could have done with better instructions on how to get there.
Review 80:Restaurant meal was great. Good area for exercising the dog.
Review 81:The Bed was very small. and not big enough for a couple
Review 82:The room and bathroom was good
Review 83:very friendly staff
Review 84:Old chateau.....history.
Review 85:We didn't know that our room was in the Orangerie, not the Chateau itself. The wifi was useless!
Review 86:Nice chateau
Review 87:Good restaurant
Review 88:Service in the restaurant for the evening meal was very slow and a little desultory, although the food was excellent
Review 89:Location, setting, room and food
Review 90:Low cost housing close to the hotel
Review 91:Comfort and quiet
Review 92:Lack of bar. Unimpressive breakfast. In need of a vacuum cleaner.
Review 93:Restaurant. Building. Space. Quiet (apart from the cockerels).
Review 94:On the wrong side of Cambrai for quick access to Calais. No local restraunts on a Sunday evening
Review 95:Comfortable and quiet - excellent nights sleep

Review 97:Slightly worn down
Review 98:Excellent dinner in the cave. nice setting and elegant. Good value.

Review 100:Attitude of some staff - we were unable to have a hot drink in our room at any timid during our stay

Review 102:Breakfast equal to nothing. Coffee and croissant, thats it. Not clean.
Review 103:Absolutely nice property.
Review 104:Friendly staff. Excellent room. Excellent food served by attentive staff. An overall air of quiet sophistication.
Review 105:Schlepping the suitcase up the stairs. Bad internet connection in room - had to go one floor down to connect.
Review 106:The room is spacious, comfortable bed.
Review 107:Very straightforward, nice old hotel. We liked our room on the top floor with dual-aspect windows looking out over trees.
Review 108:Nothing, other than my wife and I both had colds during our stay
Review 109:The whole experience....very historic spot
Review 110:No local signs, no bar, seemed deserted, with an air of not being open.
Review 111:The only redeeming feature was the food, which was outstanding.
Review 112:The lift only went up to the first floor
Review 113:Antique furniture and decoration
Review 114:Excellent value for money.

Review 117:Not as much character in the rooms as you would expect
Review 118:Attractive hotel with excellent restaurant
Review 119:nice old hotel in a great park, good restaurant and very good breakfast.
Review 120:Rude staff that don't help in anyway regarding luggage Rude waiters in the restaurant No care at all for the hotel by anyone
Review 121:Food and wine were very expensive and not good value or best quality either
Review 122:Architecture and historical and romantic atmosphere created by the décor.
