Reviews for Great Hallingbury Manor
Review 1:First room offered completely unacceptable to us tiny room, no headboard, bed shoved up against wall, ting TV, away from the main building across the road. Health and Safety nightmare will be formally complaining to the management and the Health and Safety Executive. Upon complaining staff moved us to a beautiful room but small points let it down no remote for TV lightbulb out. Very noisy and no security on external building.
Review 2:Staff pleasant and helpful. The only thing positive about the whole place
Review 3:Ive never had a bad experience in all the times I've stayed.
Review 4:We have stayed here on many occasions, it has been brilliant every time, the beds are comfy, the food is very enjoyable and the staff just make it that much better!
Review 5:Not the hotel's problem but on the flight path to Stanstead. Doesn't bother me I could sleep on a washing line!
Review 6:Great hotel, friendly helpful staff. Stayed a few times, rooms always spotless. Best bit ordered breakfast and not the usual help yourself
Review 7:They could have provided more cooked vegetarian breakfast options and, although it didn't affect me, there didn't appear to be any gluten free food.
Review 8:Beautiful setting. Very stylish but comfortable hotel. Staff were helpful. I didn't eat there but the breakfast was well cooked with a reasonable choice.
Review 9:They charged us twice they pre authorise and take the money and then take the amount again on departure you then have to wait 3-5 days for the first payment to go back to your account it's disgusting so where it should of been 216 it was 416 to stay Iam disgusted and will not be staying again , also no staff to attend to u in bar etc
Review 10:Pretty grounds
Review 11:Computer system playing up when I was leaving, so checking out a bit tedious.
Review 12:Location perfect for airport, staff friendly and very helpful, perfectly comfortable.
Review 13:the noise of the planes taking off from Stansted really bothered us. We couldn't get the heating to work but luckily it wasn't so cold outside.
Review 14:the food was excellent
Review 15:New rooms have no sound insulation. Staff were defensive & a bit aggressive. Lounges too warm. Too noisy with competing music. Maybe new, but not great!
Review 16:Location
Review 17:I was checking in at 2 am and it was no problem, i called ahead and was able to order drinks to my room as I was arriving after the bar would be closed, again no problem.
Review 18:Very noisy! No triple glazing so you hear planes until late at night then very early in the morning. Some of our friends had very small rooms for the same rate as our much larger room.
Review 19:Nice looking building, some rooms are large and comfortable.
Review 20:It was a difficult to find your room as they were across the road and very poor external lighting Adding gratuity to the bar bill very naughty
Review 21:Lovely room and very comfy bed nice en-suite
Review 22:The weekend was so good that one of my friends couldn't stop crying from being sad we aren't there anymore.
Review 23:The staff and neighbours were very friendly and welcoming we had a great bonfire night! The house was lovely with great views all around, the cave was a great attribute none of us died haha, overall brilliant weekend!
Review 24:TV didnt work correctly. Staff didnt give clear directions to room which was over the road. Ceilings were very thin and could hear people moving around upstairs. On the flight path of Stansted - very noisy!!
Review 25:The bedroom and en-suite were spacious with more than enough quality furniture, fixtures and fittings. The restaurant food was excellent both for the evening meal and breakfast. All the staff we encountered in reception and the restaurant were very helpful and friendly.
Review 26:Too cold in the room, no possibility of adjusting temperature. Shower too modern, personal prefer mobile showers to the fixed ones.
Review 27:Elegant, comfortable, beautiful landscape.
Review 28:Unfortunately I was put into a building across the road from what I thought I was purchasing. I wasn't staying in the lovely Tudor house but in an unattractive building over the road. Also my single bed moved all over the floor, even when I just sat on it to put on my shoes!
Review 29:The restaurant is lovely as is the food
Review 30:Given misinformation about dining facility. Room was far too hot and did not seem able to adjust so hardly slept. Not able to open window because of noise of flights.
Review 31:Easy to find
Review 32:Right under a flight path, no double glazing, very noisy but fortunately not all through the night, last plane about 10.30pm and first about 6am. Restaurant was overpriced for average pub grub.
Review 33:Close to airport, reasonable room price, clean room with fantastic shower
Review 34:Absolutely no sound proofing in the rooms! I could hear every other guest arrive, go into their rooms, go to the toilet, turn on the fan... The list continues. The downside of the location also means you hear every plane come and go like an alarm. I will not stay here again. Please invest in sound proofing!!!
Review 35:The room we were given was not within the main building as advertised. Small low ceiling room but with all the facilities expected of a 3-4 star hotel in a converted house opposite the main building.
Review 36:Location near airpot
Review 37:No parking available when I arrived - had to call reception to be directed to a free space Had to ask for help to room with cases - wasn't offered The toilet had a bad plumbing smell The kettle didn't work
Review 38:Great proximity to Stansted airport, lovely comfy bed
Review 39:Hotel is near Stansted airport, possibly located right under flight path as noisy until 11pm. Had to be up at 4am, was hoping for more sleep. Taxi is 14 GBP each way from airport, no shuttle from airport
Review 40:Great rooms, interesting building and lovely bathrooms. Good restaurant.
Review 41:There is noise from planes of course but staff gave me earplugs and it was fine.
Review 42:Room was clean and spacious, restaurant food was good and gardens beautiful. Staff were all great and very helpful.
Review 43:room very very small - no where to hang wet towels
Review 44:small room - room 15 which was disappointing knowing other rooms were very large, staff and food great, location for airport very good and hotel grounds were very lovely
Review 45:only fault would be the aircraft noise but this is no fault of the hotel
Review 46:Very close to the airport, high standard of furnishings, helpful friendly staff
Review 47:paper thin walls so had trouble sleeping with the noise from other guests in next room. Very noisy from aircraft as on flight path which I didn't know before hand.
Review 48:very friendly staff, large rooms with huge beds and wonderful showers. Food is excellent and room service very professional. Lovely building and grounds.
Review 49:A little more attention to detailed cleanliness would greatly improve the status of this property.
Review 50:Nice location, peaceful sleep despite the fact that it is directly below the flight path of incoming aircraft. The staff were pleasant and helpful.
Review 51:The hotel was on the airport flight path and the noise level was quite high. Also, my room was next to the road which there was also a lot of traffic noise.
Review 52:Room was ok as was the food. Staff was very helpful
Review 53:The hotel is is very close to Stansted. With a hot day and no air conditioning - it means my room windows were ope which meant the noise from flights was unbearable
Review 54:Price
Review 55:Wife and I had a 0730 AM flight from Stansted with a 0400 AM wake up call. When we got to the hotel reception, the lady working reception looked a bit sheepish and said she had to change our room around due to a wedding and that it may be a little loud. At the time it was quiet, and we thought a little music wouldn't kill us, so we agreed to take the room. At about 9 we were prepared to turn in for the night because we had to wake up at 4, the music started blaring. We were directly above the stereo system, and it was like the music from the wedding was going on in our room. We could hear every word, the walls were shaking from the bass, and the crowd of people were screaming along with the songs right below us. We tried to tough it out for awhile, but it became clear we would not be sleeping at all in our room. My wife had enough and went downstairs and asked them to change rooms. Thankfully, they were accommodating, and moved us into a much smaller room across the street. We had paid 70 quid for a deluxe room, but ended up in a much smaller room. The size of the room wasn't an issue and we slept well, but we were not even offered to get a discount for the price of the smaller room. This was a case of mismangement- they could have given us the room across the street and immediately offered us a discounted room rate, and sold the room above the wedding party to a member of the wedding party. Instead, we had to deal with 2 hours of blaring music and the inconvenience of changing rooms to across the street, and were not even offered the discounted room rate. Because of this blatant mismanagement, we won't be staying here again. The hotel itself is very nice, but next time they decide to host a wedding they need to manage it so that their paying customers who need to wake up at 0400 are not severely inconvenienced because of it.
Review 56:The room itself was very clean and the hotel was beautiful. The food at the restaurant was excellent and the service at the restaurant was excellent.
Review 57:We got the hotel only room next to the road. There were not many cars, but we could not sleep for those who came. At 5 o'clock in the morning, it sounded as if there was a plane that landed on the roof. And so it continued (the hotel was the front end of the runway). We did not close an eye that night. It cost 16 Pounds with taxa from the airport to the hotel. And we waitet ½ hour for one. So it's just as cheap to book on SAS Radisson, where you can walk to / from the airport.
Review 58:Beautiful old hotel.
Review 59:The floor in my room didn't feel clean in my bare feet so put a towel down to stand on otherwise all was fine apart from problem with room key but that was an ongoing problem I was told.
Review 60:The hotel looks lovely but as I had a standard room this was in another building opposite and the room was very small.
Review 61:2 mins to landing for the planes overhead. Quiet between 12 midnight and 6am but forget about sleep at other times!
Review 62:Gorgeous big room and really helpful staff
Review 63:Being so close to the airport it is understandably noisy from all the aeroplanes and would therefore benefit from double-glazed windows!
Review 64:Was exactly what we wanted - very close to Stansted Airport ready to go on holiday. The grounds were beautiful, just right for an evening stroll when we got there!
Review 65:Room was very hot, but when you had the window open its very noisy from the planes so didn't sleep well, could do with air conditioning
Review 66:Staff were extremely helpful and accommodating, lovely location rooms clean and spacious
Review 67:Had to change room. Had one tiny room ground floor facing the road. Very noisy. Not double glazing windows. Reception very helpful. Moved into a different one (with double glazing) where found couple of bugs walking around the room. Restaurant is good. Each airplane was making my room shaking. Hotels near airports must be very well isolated.
Review 68:Close to airport.
Review 69:the plane path obviosley but did not detract anything from staya
Review 70:the location wasgood, the food at restaurant vg and service friendly and helpful.the grounds were a welcome relief.
Review 71:The planes from Stansted flying right over us early in the morning.
Review 72:Very convenient from the motorway. Easy to find. Friendly staff and comfortable, clean room.
Review 73:Close to the airport so a little noisy until 11pm, but the cost and comfort outweigh this inconvenience.
Review 74:Very modern rooms but with a warm, comfortable feeling (some places can be impersonal) with lots of amenities, tea/shampoo/wi.fi etc... Very clean and pleasant - and very good value for money.
Review 75:The hotel suffers from being on the Stansted flight path!
Review 76:The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Although we arrived late, the receptionist and the bar manager between them ensured we had some delicious food.
Review 77:The venue is under the main flight path for Stansted Airport, so very noisy most of the day (one every minute). The bathroom needs at least two grab bars. One in the shower and the other near the toilet for those of us with mobility issues. There was a lack of information in the room about how to use the facilities. The television had no remote control. I asked for one, but it took 24 hours for it to arrive.
Review 78:The bed was large and very comfortable. The bathroom was a good size and I loved the shower. The breakfast was excellent and the staff were very pleasant. There is good open space for dogs (a bin for dog waste would have been nice)
Review 79:The staff were poor. The receptionist was especially rude and grumpy towards us because she could not find out booking. The restaurant staff were not very attentive for dinner. Very noisy at night from the planes taking off and landing.
Review 80:Its very close to the airport and the grounds of the hotel are nicely kept. The breakfast is pretty good as well as the dinner.
Review 81:The wasps. I know it is to be expected with the location but feel the hotel should supply some of the candles that deter wasps from the tables. 4 of our party were stung. Luckily none of the children were.
Review 82:The rooms were comfy and a great breakfast was supplied
Review 83:Cold atmosphere. Bland restaurant menu. Cheap wine sold at expensive price. The cooked breakfast is left in stainless steel containers with a lid on, left to go soggy.
Review 84:The duck pond.
Review 85:Big black hair on towel (couldn't have been my own), broken toilet. Staff were talking about me very loudly in the kitchen trying to teach each other how to pronounce my name which I found rude and distasteful.
Review 86:Beautiful room, building and grounds. Excellent shower room.
Review 87:The person at reception didnt seem to be listening. The services (food? Breakfast to room? Bar open? Wifi?) werent pretented. Wifi worked only at the garden. At the morning at the restaurant we had to discuss whether the breakfast included on the price or not. We didnt have time to eat it because the warm stuff needed to be orded (no buffet as we assumed). There were no lights and signs around the proterty to be seen for people arriving at night. Noice of the deparing airplanes might be disturbing for light sleepers.
Review 88:Offer for large room suited for us - wanted to do the packing for departure. The main building and settings looked fine. Near the airport Stansted.
Review 89:Couldn't get WiFi to connect but wasn't critical so didn't raise it as an issue.
Review 90:great location - only 5 minutes to Stansted Airport. Lovely setting
Review 91:The advertised free wifi did not work for the family room, no good for teenagers. Under the flight path but that is to be expected!
Review 92:Location for airport was good.
Review 93:The location is convenient for the airport but has low flying planes overhead. The sound proofing was good in the bedroom but the outdoor bar restaurant area and open patio doors was very very noisy. On a hot night, I couldn't open the windows as it was too noisy.
Review 94:Beautiful building and setting.
Review 95:There was a strange noise in the room (unbled radiators?) and they were unable to sort it so immediately changed my room - which was an upgrade - without quibbling.
Review 96:No wifi in my room, so I needed to go downstairs to work. I couldn't make the shower run hot -- barely tepid for the most part ... could have been my mistake, though.
Review 97:Staff was lovely, food was nice
Review 98:Unfortunately the wet room, although a good idea, wasn't designed well and water didn't drain properly. Telly didn't work, but only a minor prob.
Review 99:Great for the airport, very helpful staff and manager, rooms pleasant and very clean. Restaurant was really nice and staff helpful. Not too expensive for an evening meal.
Review 100:At time of booking I did not realize hotel was quite so close to flight path at Airport. Felt dining room meals were overpriced. On both nights we stayed there were weddings in hotel so main hotel was busy & noisy.
Review 101:Staff were very helpful.
Review 102:Travelling to the hotel by taxi would have been a bit expencive (14£).
Review 103:The hotel was located in a very beautiful countryside, only 4,6 miles away from the airport. It was ok to walk there. The room was just perfect.
Review 104:I WAS GIVEN ROOM 23 WHICH HAD A FAULT IN THE BATHROOM , THEN GIVEN ROOM 29 WHICH ALSO HAD A FAULT THEN GIVEN ROOM 18 WHICH WAS GREAT . NOT TOLD BEFOREHAND THAT IT IS RIGHT UNDER FLIGHTPATH TO STANSTED AIRPORT HENCE VERY NOISY .
Review 105:THE FOOD WAS GOOD AND THE STAFF WERE ALL VERY FRIENDLY . THE LAKE AND THE GROUNDS WERE A LOVELY SURPRISE .
Review 106:No Air Conditioning in the rooms, it was really stuffy, which resulted in a real bad nights sleep!!!! Would stay here again but only in the winter months.
Review 107:Excellent location to Stansted Airport and excellent breakfast.
Review 108:The place is on a low flight path and planes are loud. I was told I could leave my car there for the duration of my time away and rang to confirm at no charge, but was not the case when I arrived and cost to leave it was more than the room. ( I had a lift organized but cancelled it ) Be Very Aware If Staying Here . I'm not happy :(
Review 109:The experience has left a sour taste.
Review 110:Our bathroom had mold in it and was flooding with water!!! There was a ants nest at the front door of the old part we where in. Bit off putting.
Review 111:This is a truelly beautiful location and amazing old house a real gem.
Review 112:Very noisy due to aircraft taking off directly overhead every 5 minutes No wifi in room (room 60)
Review 113:Very nice gardens. Freshly prepared breakfast to order
Review 114:Right down the airport runway. Aircraft take off every minute from 5am to 11pm, flight path exactly over the roof, 1000 feet, and terrible noise. No wifi in the rooms, only at lobby.
Review 115:The house, the garden, very nice.
Review 116:Airplanes 10m above your head every 2 minutes. Mercifully it does stop about midnight but starts again about 6.00 am. Mediocre breakfast. Room was very small such that you could not pull the chair back from the desk because the bed was in the way.
Review 117:It was close to the work I needed to do. Staff reasonably friendly. I guess if you are catching an early flight, or arriving on a late one the location is ideal.
Review 118:Wifi didn't reach to stable rooms
Review 119:Close to airport so noisy with aircraft noise but that's to be expected having the hotel so close to the airport. A nice hotel & comfortable too
Review 120:Wet room shower, drenched the whole bathroom.
Review 121:So much nicer than the plastic, chrome and glass of the airport chain hotels. Easily found just off the M11 . Stunning gardens, good menu if a little pricey.
Review 122:We did not appreciate being woken up by people letting go of doors so that they slammed .The vibration caused our door to jump as well as the sound this was disturbing .
Review 123:The staff were all very pleasant and helpful. The hotel was very clean.
Review 124:The room had no Windows we could open. Just patio doors. As a ground floor room we couldn't leave them open at night. No air con so very uncomfortable
Review 125:Decor was nice. Great room size
Review 126:It took a little while to get used to the planes, but the traffic eases mid evening by which time it was almost unnoticeable
Review 127:The hotel gardens were lovely to walk around and the staff could not have been more friendly and helpful
Review 128:Wifi was particularly strong, but worked enough for what I needed to do
Review 129:Room was perfect The breakfast was fantastic - lots of choice and cooked breakfast was delicious Service was great
Review 130:Room was comfortable, if a little bit pokey. The major irritation was being directly under the flight path of Stansted Airport.
Review 131:Lovely hotel, in nice surroundings. Enjoyed breakfast here. We weren't here long enough to explore the immediate area.
Review 132:The bed slid around on the floor whenever we moved or sat down on it, there is virtually no phone signal and no WiFi offered in our part of the hotel, so I couldn't do my work. The noise of the planes flying overhead is SO LOUD and there is no double glazing!
Review 133:Our room was very clean and cosy (we stayed in the 'paddock' separate to the main hotel building). The setting is lovely, in the woods with little traffic around.
Review 134:Very Noisy, right under the flight path of Stansted, plus we were in a wing which had a very loud door that was banging every time somebody walked through it.
Review 135:Clean Room and nice and close to Stansted.
Review 136:The soundproofing of the room was very poor (you hear everything what is happening at the reception and in the corridor). The aircraft noise is also huge but you can't do anything for it.
Review 137:Location and surroundings.
Review 138:Would like a spa or massage treatment etc option
Review 139:The food was of excellent standard The room was of excellent standard We just absolutely loved the place We even picked up the wedding brochure
Review 140:Noisy - close area to the airport but thats understanable. No wifi and no reception. Hardly any phone signal. No AC in the room (dont know if was broken or if there is none in the rooms). A bit too expensive for this kind of service. Hotels closer to london are including free dinner or breakfast (sometimes both) Dinner was ok but not the greatest.
Review 141:Breakfast selection was really good. Freshly made English breakfast varieties. Nice area surrounded ducks, birds, trees. Very close to the airport.
Review 142:The noise from the passing aeroplanes was horrendous and caused a very restless nights sleep; combined with noise from doors closing and the nearlby corridor
Review 143:The staff were amazing, very friendly and attentive
Review 144:If you are a light sleeper you may experience some disturbance by flights coming over.
Review 145:Very helpful and friendly staff at reception & restaurant. Breakfast is fabulous.
The Fine Print
The hotel does accept group bookings.
