Reviews for Hotel Cafe Royal
Review 1:The lighting in room could be more flexible and brighter.
Review 2:The location is excellent and love the historical background of this hotel. Staffs are lovely.
Review 3:I have requested through booking.com to have twin beds in one of the rooms we booked- but it wasn't given to us until NEXT day. However, the polite reception employees tried resolving it.
Review 4:The friendly staff and how they made everything easy
Review 5:Breakfast would have been better suited to a buffet style as opposed to al acarte
Review 6:The staff were extremely efficient they have a fantastic eye for detail and even remembered my sons name after one intro
Review 7:Club privliges paid for...club closed, but we were offered to be allowed in to the bar on new years eve for 50 GBP per person....and on top of paying 1200 GBP a night with no breakfast for a room with windows that looked like they had last been washed during WWII...well gosh what more could I say than...hmmm
Review 8:Like real estate...location location etc
Review 9:We had bad incident at the spa as my friend therapist were just awful and rude to her for the 80 minutes session. Didn't get an apology when I raised the issue but we weren't charge for her service. Didn't feel the room was cleaned properly on daily bases. wish it was cleaned more throughly. Booked a driver to Hampshire and they quoted me for 180 for the ride not mentioning it was per hour and then at checkout i was charged 500 something. Even thou i thought i would only pay 180 I paid 360 for driving us there and back for the hotel. wish the staff were more specific. Lastly the beds for us were a definite problem it just felt so uncomfortable even thou the room was great I wish the bed were just as luxuries-t.
Review 10:we had the grand superior room with two single beds, the room space is amazing we had it at the second floor which was fantastic we had wide windows which is always a plus. The room for me was absolutely amazing more beautiful than the connaught room and the beaumont. However the cleaning and the bed mattress were a problem.
Review 11:The price—but its right in the middle of London and couldn't have been much better!
Review 12:There's very little about this hotel that I didn't like. Its gorgeous!
Review 13:they charge for printing documents over 10 pages!!! 1st time this happens to us in a hotel of that level
Review 14:location!!! room is very comfirtable & clean. very good service
Review 15:The only criticism was that our room was a little on the warm.
Review 16:The attention to detail was excellent! the staff were very happy to help in anyway they could, that's a real tribute to the staff training and senior management.
Review 17:Nothing.
Review 18:Avery thing , best hotel in London felt like a VIP . The room was equipped with cutting edge technology + I loved the idea of the lift . Soo cool . One thing is it's a bit expensive but it worth it .
Review 19:Lighting was too complex in bedroom. Shouldn't need an engineering degree to work it out!
Review 20:Location is great, nice design and style inside. Enjoyable atmosphere in the Cafe for breakfast, although expensive. Comfortable bed and nice bathroom.
Review 21:Please be careful with hotel concierge staff, I bought opera ticketsthrough them, but they over-charged me over 50% on purpose withouttelling me the details.
Review 22:awful breakfast, no variety at all You need to wait almost half an hour to get a decent piece of food, even though there are only a few more people at the restaurant. Worst breakfast experience in London ever.. The front desk staff's English pronunciation is bad.. There are far more elegant and luxurious hotels nearby for this value.. room toilet is too small
Review 23:Excellent location clean and good rooms
Review 24:The pictures of the room I selected in booking.com is a bit misleadingespecially in this hotel as rooms does vary from floor to floor
Review 25:Everything was ok during the stay
Review 26:some things didn't work in the room such as cartains didn't close properly TV not enough music chanels Water pressure in the shower low
Review 27:Location and service
Review 28:moment walked the rough the door the staff were attentive. The level of device was world class. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone who expects the best of everything. I like the ocsar wilde bar afternoon tea and it's my favorite place in the hotel and It is known and famous since 1865 .
Review 29:Low security in regards to Elevators cards check.
Review 30:1/ Excellent Location. 2/ Excellent staff 3/ Excellent Room facility (Bathroom, design, ..etc.) 4/ Great WiFi 5/ Great spa & Gym
Review 31:The sign to the spa is very discreet, the operator didn’t give good instruction to the direction to the spa. Despite this, the swimming pool is worth visiting given it is in Central London. It’s not easy to find a clean and high standard pool in Central London hotels. The decor of the room is good, but make you feel like staying inside the box coz it’s all mounted by wooden panel inculding the roof!
Review 32:The staff are all well mannered except the chauffer that drove us to the airport. He was kind of rude when he saw my child left the empty doggie bag in the car, he impatiently asked her to remove it when we were leaving the car upon arrival to the airport. I supposed he could clean up the little garbage as we had loads of baggages to carry. I didn’t expect to pay GBP110 for this kind of service.
Review 33:Nothing negative about this hotel!
Review 34:Everything! Location was brilliant. Literally 100 metres from Piccadilly Circus! Service was outstanding by all staff members. Loved the underfloor heating in the luxurious bathroom, not to mention the secret TV hidden in the vanity mirror. Beautiful decor throughout entire hotel.
Review 35:No lobby
Review 36:Very convenient location and frien. Transportation, food, grocery all available within few minutes walk. الموقع ممتاز، المواصلات قريبة جدا، سوبرماركت خلف الفندق، مطاعم كثيرة
Review 37:We had two rooms, the junior suite was great with big windows, but the deluxe room was dark. considering this we thought this room was a bit pricey
Review 38:The spa and the pool were great
Review 39:The room is a little spartan, with no cushions or backrests to watch TV in bed or such. For two people in the room, seating was a challenge. The furniture in the room was also limited with the bed side tables in particular being poor. Lighting is not so good... There is little space to put your own belongings as every where there are papers from the hotel, too many collaterals.... These should be reformatted and put into one location rather than all over the room...
Review 40:Staff are outstanding, friendly, efficient and anxious help, they are very international and professional. The food is excellent. The old Art Deco style of the hotel was fascinating, although I would have appreciated a downstairs seating area to watch the world go by. Interior Design is very reminiscent of modern Tokyo, clear, functional and well maintained.
Review 41:Seemed staff was very young, almost none of them from the U.K. as most of them had South/East European accents. This is not a bad thing but said in this case something about the owners/management budget to run the place. When I booked the room, I booked a junior suite with club lounge access…. In the rest of the world it means the same but not at Café Royal, it’s a questionable area with exclusive access, just another restaurant / bar. Anyway I should have kept reading during the booking because it was somewhere mentioned. Then when we wanted to visit the so called “club lounge” it was closed, even the reception staff did not know about it (none of them including the concierge). When they asked the manager they were told it was Sunday…. As I wrote, great facility, staff makes the best out of it, location is great, management did not fit at all with the good things we experienced.
Review 42:Great facility, great location
Review 43:The rooms seem cold and Spartan. No cushions to relax, insufficient seating options, very poor bedside tables which are overcrowded with hotel stuff leaving no room for your stuff. Rooms are a victim of design rather than comfort. Lighting sucks.
Review 44:Staff are generally fabulous, helpful, friendly and very competent... they are a great reason to stay before you consider the excellent food, the great ambience and attention to detail. The shower in the room was wonderful...
Review 45:Only issue was the in room lighting controls - complicated and you could never find the right setting!
Review 46:Quality of the rooms. Notwithstanding the location the rooms were very quiet.
Review 47:We had some problems with the credit cards given that we had such a long stay. It was all sorted out eventually but next time I would probably prepay prior to arrival otherwise they block that large amount on your credit card which can be very inconvenient as we were travelling for a few weeks prior and still had those blocks on our card and can take more than a week to come off. The cost of phone calls to book theatre tickets from the room is very very high. More than the cost of the theatre ticket! The hotel was very good when I pointed this out and didn't end up charging us for the calls. But beware, ask Concierge to make sny bookings!
Review 48:We had a very large and beautiful junior suite overlooking Regent Street which was perfect for the three of us. The bathroom is amazing with heated floor although London was hot while we were there! And didn't need it really. The staff were very helpful. Concierge staff were my favourite. Very friendly and went out of their way to help us including going to the tube to top up my Oyster card! Food was good and they went out of their way to preparel late night dinners in the lounge after we can home late The proximity to everything was the best thing. We went to the theatre every night and walked each time. We felt very safe and happy here for the thirteen nights we stayed
Review 49:The sofa bed isn't one of the best we've experienced. And wewere charged two hundred pounds more than our actual bill. Butwhat's worse than that is when we called booking.com customerservice to solve this problem with the hotel and instead got a veryunhelpful and rude person on that line who kept interrupting mewhile speaking and kept on explaining to me what their procedure islike instead of getting straight to solving our problem. This was myfirst time calling customer service for help which was a big fail ontheir part.
Review 50:The hotel is on a very busy shopping street "regent'S."The suite was really nice with some cool features in the bedroom &bathroom and it is very quite, even though it is on a loud and busystreet. Staff were friendly but not very hospitable. The suite we bookedfor 2 nights was expensive.
Review 51:2 years ago, when hotel just opened, everything was fine. But, now, they have nothing to deserve the money you pay. Personel, serving, internet etc. The worst expensive hotel in the world. Stay away!
Review 52:Nothing
Review 53:I went to the café for breakfast and the service was poor and the attitude of the staff felt such a contrast.
Review 54:We felt valued from the moment we arrived. The environment was stylish and the spa was really relaxing.
Review 55:There's not one single thing we were unhappy with.
Review 56:The warm welcome upon our arrival continued throughout the whole of our stay. The hotel is sumptious, calm, inviting and beautiful. The CR team were a delight....always smiling and engaging and the facilities (inc. The Spa) were top notch. Thankyou so much....we loved every moment :)
Review 57:I couldn't work out the bluetooth to the modern speakers and the instructions were not easy to follow - and I'm a techy! I think maybe it just doesn't work with smartphones? I'm sure help would have been at hand if it was that important but it was a niggle.
Review 58:The mix of old archtecture and a vintage style together with how modern and spacious the room was. It had a wonderful atmosphere bang in the centre of Picadilly Circus!
Review 59:Beautiful decor, tasteful and comfortable. Fantastic spa. Lovely staff who very kindly sent us a cake and cocktails as a anniversary present. Great location, attention to detail with everything. Even simple room service sides where done to a very high standard.
Review 60:The rooms are very high tech, buttons for the curtains, blind, and do not disturb sign, but the staff guided you all through it.
Review 61:The ambiance was great, staff were superb, and very attentive. location is excellent for shopping and theatre.
Review 62:The lighting in the room was too dim. There was no option to brighten. Also at reception I couldn't read my bill it was so dark. The staff agreed with me.
Review 63:The staff were very professional and also friendly.
Review 64:This is a fabulous hotel. Luxurious surroundings are complemented by superb service. The staff are friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble.
Review 65:Wonderful place to stay for a special occasion, in the heart of London. The staff were absolutely superb, as was the accommodation and the public areas of the hotel simply spectacular. We received a complimentary bottle of Veuve Cliquot .... Says it all really !!
Review 66:Scandalous service charges in the bar, £10 to serve drinks across thebar, really!! Also, it's a shame that access to The GrillRoom/Oscar Wilde bar seems so guarded, we didn't manage to getin during our stay.
Review 67:Location of the Hotel and the great staff.
Review 68:There was a buzzing noise in the ceiling that was a bit disruptive, but they wrote off my laundry bill to make up for it. Also the lighting could have a brighter setting when needed.
Review 69:The overall design of the hotel from the original grand exterior, and the opulent foyer and stairwells, to the beautiful modern wood paneling and Carrara marble bathrooms. All the fittings are spot on. Very well executed
Review 70:Superbly friendly staff- truly professional. I only mentioned once that we were there for my mother's birthday and when we got back to our room a bottle of champagne and macaroons had been sent up as a present. V appreciated!
Review 71:We asked for a quiet room and that was delivered. Our room on the 6th floor was quite contemporary. The bathroom was really nice. All the mod cons were great, our only gripe would be that the walls were covered ceiling to floor in wood panels so it felt a little bit like we were in our own tomb! Only one window in the bedroom. We ate in the Cafe just for the experience.Lots of cupcakes ( fake ) on display but none available for eating. The cost of dinner and breakfast is what you would expect from a 5*hotel.
Review 72:The original parts of this hotel are truly beautiful and it is in a great location for Piccadilly Circus, Leicester Square, Carnaby Street and many of the theatres.
Review 73:The mini bar items were pricey as one would expect from a five star hotel.
Review 74:Stayed with my daughter in order to attend a hen night in Soho and we had 2 large and comfortable single beds in a quiet room overlooking the street. The doorman and concierge were friendly and efficient. Service is excellent. The rainfall shower was super. Would recommend for a special treat.
Review 75:Great location and very comfortable room. This hotel is not cheap but I did feel I was getting what I payed for. The deluxe room was spacious, especially the bathroom. The Nespresso coffee machine was a very welcome touch.
Review 76:checking out, we didn't want to leave, apart from that nothing
Review 77:out of this world facilities in bedroom and the informative & friendly staff who make you feel your the only person staying there.
Review 78:These people really try it was not the cheapest but well worth the cost. stayed at many 5* hotels in this area and this is equal to the savoy in my opinion.
Review 79:- very slow WiFi " have to pay for higher speeds". - mobile service coverage are weak inside the room. - bad views from the room " not on the regent st. " - weird billing system. - not that much for that value of money.
Review 80:- Great location. - Staff. - very clean rooms.
Review 81:Price is steep, it is central London of course but still. Portland rooms are a bit too minimalistic, almost bunker-like. The scenic city view is a total euphemism (at least in our room). Credit card was blocked upon arrival (which is fine) and then it takes about a week for the block to be lifted. Never had that before. Consider that quite unacceptable.
Review 82:Great location and the service is truly 5 stars! Rooms are modern and we especially loved the bathroom/shower!
Review 83:One of the best 5star hotels in london. Well designed and proportioned room and good value compared to other similar hotels. Beatiful interior features and excellent service. Definitely worth revisiting.
Review 84:The room way too small, awful atmoshere No bath therefore not 5 star They forgot to deliver our Sunday Times The location is awful if you arrive by car. The 'high tech' was way way over the top. I will never return. The Langham IS 5star star !!!
Review 85:The bed was comfortable The shower was good.
Review 86:We needed to make a reservation at 8:30pm for a lite-bite at 9pm even though the restaruant wasn't full? The same table were free when we returned 30mins later? We tried to book a Spa package for two several weeks ahead, but these were unavailable, apperntly due to staff training?
Review 87:The facilities, food and location were good.
Review 88:Rooms facing the inner street are not recommended I could not tolerate the first room and had to upgrade to a junior suite facing Regent's street
Review 89:Comfy beds Location is unbeatable Perfect soundproof system despite being in the heart of London Walking distance to most important tourist attraction areas Little pricy but worth it :)
Review 90:Just loved everything , it was the last night of our honeymoon after going to New York & vegas and they made us so welcome . A all round class A performance from all the staff . Thank u cafe royal , we will be back
Review 91:One of the staff was really rather unpleasant
Review 92:Beautiful hotel, great location with wonderful amenities. Steeped in history and has a relaxing feel throughout.
Review 93:Nothing. All was perfect
Review 94:All was perfect! The personal is very nice , the room are big, clean and nice, the food was excellent, the SPA perfect, all very very good.
Review 95:Limited dining solutions Reception area and corridors (gloomy) Air-conditioning and poor room lighting
Review 96:Location Swimming pool and SPA Building atmosphere Stuff politeness and availability
Review 97:Lighting was dim especially when during winter when sometimes you want more light in the room.
Review 98:Great service by all hotel staff. Excellent location. Staff willing to go out of the way to assist you
Review 99:Limited TV channels for children
Review 100:Customer service and welcome Attention to detail by staff Standard of rooms Spa and pool area Dining Location Room facilities and service
Review 101:The only little moan I could have was the eggs at breakfast. They were tasteless and breakfast was not value for money. Service was good.
Review 102:We really enjoyed our stay at The Cafe Royal. The staff, our room, our dinner in the restaurant, our lunch in the Cafe were all excellent. We will certainly stay again.
Review 103:Everything at the Hotel Cafe Royal was perfect, from the staff to the suite. Just perfect. The location couldn't be better for Xmas shopping either!
Review 104:No mirror in the bedroom which is a pain when you want to use hair straighteners / hair drier
Review 105:Best hotel I have ever stayed in. Quality of service, facilities and professionalism of all staff is simply exceptional. Nothing is too much trouble. I'd mentioned it was my husband's birthday and when we were shown to our room there was a complimentary bottle of champagne and a birthday cake waiting for him. Such a lovely gesture!
Review 106:Bed was big but hard Breakfast was too expensive and waiter was not professional
Review 107:Loved the decor: modern and cool but also classy, chic and glamorous. Loved the location: can't get more central then this. Close to shops, restaurants, everything. Loved the staff at reception and concierge James, he got us into a great restaurant last minute on friday night
Review 108:The only negative was the price of drinks/food but with price comes quality.
Review 109:The decor was Amazing the staff and the way we was treated was excellent. Oscar Wilde bar is a must fantastic atmosphere and even better champagne.
Review 110:Several promises were made by staff, none was kept. Including a promise that a manager would call me. No mobile phone reception on 2nd floor.
Review 111:Not much to be honest
Review 112:Noting.
Review 113:Unbeatable location, perfect confort, very friendly and professional staff, nicely decorated large rooms with all the conviniences. It was really a pleasure to stay there.
Review 114:Just two small things: there was no toilet brush, the pillows were too soft and flat
Review 115:Location, Style, Atmosphere, excellent Gym and Spa, Staff! Special thanks to the Concierge (A Gentleman from India, unfortunately I don't remember his name)
Review 116:The professionalism, courtesy, knowledge and welcome by Staff. We were returning guests and the welcome etc was outstanding. We will be returning in December- can't wait.
Review 117:I think the service in the restaurant has to be improuved
Review 118:I liked a lot the design, the furnitures and the bathrooms. the spa also has a great program for yoga and beauty staff
Review 119:Room not ready till after 3pm poor service in restaurant shown to restaurant then told breakfast finished shown cafe seated then told this is reserved not welcoming at all
Review 120:Spa excellent. Room comfortable
Review 121:sent pants to be dry cleaned one day before checking out. but being told it was not ready when check-out (11.30am). The hotel asked me to come back again in the evening to collect it. Spent an extra 40 pounds and 1 hour to be able to take my pants back. It seems they take it for granted that their time is more valuable than mine and I should pay for the transport by myself. really poor customer service!
Review 122:room is spacious. free wifi. location is excellent.
Review 123:I didnt like this hotel at all!! It is so dark inside that ir make me feel claustofobic. On the other hand, I booked it because of the swiming pool but we could only use it restrictly during the morning and one hour in the afternoon till 3.30 if going with children. And the water was really Cold. It is not a children friendly hotel. I would not come again to this hotel, it is far too expensive and the rooms and swiming pool facilitéis where a dissapointment.
Review 124:The entrance of the hotel is impressive. The doormen always helpfull with an umbrella if needed.
Review 125:All staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Room overlooked Piccadilly Circus, but secondary double glazing provided excellent soundproofing. King size bed extremely comfortable, room was very quiet and had efficient air conditioning. Many restaurants and bars locally with Shaftesbury Avenue (theater district) literally just round the corner. All in all a classy, top quality hotel, couldn't fault it.
Review 126:My room was advertised as having a Nespresso machine. When I was taken to the room it didn't have this nor did it even have a kettle. I had to ask 3 times before a kettle was brought to my room. Mansard room was very dark Light operation is very technical and lights are on motion sensors so go off easily TV is difficult to use Spa lift is very difficult to find Public areas especially lobby area on each bedroom floor is very classy but poorly lit and so quite creepy if no one else is around
Review 127:18m swimming pool is great for laps Regent St was shut to traffic when I left so doorman walked some distance with my bags to get a taxi Window in room opened so I could get real air instead of relying on air conditioning Great bathroom with separate wet room
Review 128:Almost nothing !
Review 129:Location, the big red London bus stop right in front of the hotel door ! Bed and linen is so comfortable. Wholefoods just behind the hotel Tube is just few minutes walk
Review 130:A bit dark in the hallways. For a hotel with high ambitions they should have more flowers on the empty tables around the hallways.
Review 131:Very nice and big rooms. Extremely quiet consider the location. Great staff. Helpful. For me this was a perfect location although a bit expensive. The slippers in the room are the best I ever had, I don´t often use them.
Review 132:This is minor, but the lighting was a bit low in certain areas.
Review 133:Great staff, spacious room, very comfortable surroundings, very clean & updated. Room had blackout shades & double paned windows. Lots to do when you step outside hotel.
Review 134:Can't think of a thing!
Review 135:We had a thoroughly enjoyable stay at this hotel. It is expensive but you get what you pay for with plenty of well trained and attentive staff, beautiful rooms and excellent facilities. We would definitely recommend the Cafe Royal.
Review 136:Lighting poor. Dark in daytime with only one window. Give them good notice if you want help leaving with your bags.
Review 137:Staff were great. Bed very comfortable.
The Fine Print
