Reviews for Aubrey Park Hotel
Review 1:The noise was still a big problem, but the hotel handled our complaint well. Telephones in room didn't work.
Review 2:Staff were friendly, made good suggestions and due to a Christmas party offered to move us to the far side of the hotel to reduce the impact of noise.
Review 3:On arrival we were advised that our booking had been cancelled although why is still a mystery. I had booked a suite for my wife and I for her birthday and an adjoining double room for our daughter. These were already occupied by other guests when we arrived. The receptionist Lauren worked very hard to find us alternative rooms and she also refunded the cost of breakfast. Well done Lauren for rescuing a potentially bad situation. Only other gripe is that the corridors are narrow when when are carrying big cases and the number of stairs to navigate.
Review 4:Lauren the receptionist worked really hard to find us rooms after our booking was cancelled by the hotel. The beds were very comfortable.
Review 5:Suite quite a stride from the reception. Bathroom extractor fan very noisey overnight. Breakfast expensive
Review 6:Stayed here many times, the room is ok & comfortable, location suits. This time I booked a suite, really good size room, space to relax, larger bed.
Review 7:Food very expensive on menu,it was very tasty, but did not receive a great amount, very good quality, would of liked more vegtables
Review 8:Excellent buffet breakfast, well presented, was not rushed to leave table when finished,10 out 10 thank you
Review 9:Room was very hot and Windows didn't open. No smoking which is normal but no quick route to the outside or explanation on where allowed to smoke. Stayed in back end of hotel, very long walk to the outside!!
Review 10:I liked the location and free car parking.
Review 11:When we arrived in the pouring rain we were welcomed with a warm greeting.. We were upgraded to a family room and the booking in process was quick and efficient. They even put are sons milk in their refridgerator. They couldn't do enough. Breakfast was hot and tasty the waitress service was excellent. I would feint rely recommend this hotel. Love to come back in the summer as to take advantage of the beautiful grounds.
Review 12:Aware that hotels make their money at Christmas but feel that if they wish to give over the hotel to evening functions they shouldn't have guests staying not associated with these functions. Unable to dine in the restaurant and unable to use the bar until the evening functions moved out
Review 13:Hotel was adequate as handy for the wedding we were going to
Review 14:Shame that all the lights in the room (apart from reading 'spots') were on a single switch, so all on or all off.
Review 15:the professionalism and attention to detail
Review 16:We stayed Christmas eve through to day after boxing day visiting family. There was a UK holiday group in. About over 100 mature people. Walking sticks walking zimmers. There was not enough staff in my opinion. Eating in the brasserie on Xmas eve was not allowed as they were setting up for Christmas day. Ate in the bar with a dog barking at me and the dog had an odour whilst we ate. The breakfast was awful. Soggy hash browns. Sausages were ok. The eggs were black underneath . They were dried up and unedible and described as fried eggs. There was one toaster that needed the toast to go through twice. Coffee was poor we paid for a coffee soon after breakfast because i knew it was from a machine and ground coffee. We were not part of the party of the more mature people and the itinerary so...everything took so long. It was one of my worst hotel experiences. There are no shops nearby. They had no cans of coke or any juice to buy. The staff were very young and run off their feet. They were very pleasant and I think they put up with a lot. I will never re visit . It was more like a care home than a hotel. I would not rate this 4 star.
Review 17:The room was clean. Staff ...when we seen them very friendly. Not enough of them
Review 18:Some rooms on the upper level are not fully accessible by lift. There is a flight of stairs to the upper level which may be a problem for elderly and/or disabled guests. Also these stairs do not have proper safety rails fitted on both sides of the stairs and so pose a health and safety risk. This issue has been raised with reception at the hotel. The fire escape stairs from the upper level also did not have safety rails fitted on both sides.
Review 19:Usual friendly greeting at reception and excellent customer service.
Review 20:I didn't like having to pay as soon as I arrived. I don't think I have ever had to pay as soon as I have arrived before. Plus when I got room service they wouldn't put it on room. Very inconvenient
Review 21:I spent two separate nights at this hotel punctuated by another night elsewhere. The bedroom telephones did not work (in two separate bedrooms.) Breakfast was a bit wishy washy with some hanging around and food spoilt by being too long under heat lamps
Review 22:Location convenient for motorways. Many staff did not speak fluent english but struggled to do their best.
Review 23:A pool / spa / gymnasium would have been very nice. No parking spaces both nights we stayed due to functions at the hotel
Review 24:Friendly staff, nice dining and bar area, very good location to local amenities
Review 25:Bar and brasserie area quite basic and pub-like. Not an appealing place to eat so we went out.
Review 26:Comfortable room. Staff helpfully gave us a quiet room as there was to beca big party and music in the evening
Review 27:I've never posted a bad review yet but the horrifically stained sofa in our suite deserves a mention. We tried turning the cushions over but it was even worse. So in the end were restricted to sitting on the bed. Was a real shame as the rest of the room was spotless. We also poorly timed our arrival at breakfast as food had been sitting some time although when our friends joined us 10 mins later fresh plates had been put out. Suggest turning food over quicker as eggs were not edible and sausages hard from the heat lamp. Unfortunately due to the above this is the first hotel we have ever stayed in that we wouldn't want to return to in the future.
Review 28:On a positive note the staff were very friendly and the bed in our suite was super comfy with lots of pillows. The bathroom was spotless and there were loads of towels provided. We also really enjoyed the dinner provided for our event which we felt was of high quality. The rural location.
Review 29:Although we were informed that there would be a party on Saturday night, we were assured our rooms would be quiet. This was not the case as the bass could be clearly heard. It did stop at midnight but that is not really good enough.
Review 30:Comfortable and clean. Nice bar.
Review 31:Room service - food was less than satisfactory ad pizza was not cooked and burger tasted like a fast food take out and it was very costly fir what we received. Very loud noise every time kitchen staff rolled trolly outside the building next to our room. Very loud banging noise intermittent through the whole night. Very loud humming noise from some were also.
Review 32:Bath and nice shower room and flowers were left for birthday in our room.
Review 33:We booked for a quiet night and a nice meal. Whilst we understand it is Christmas party season, we would have liked to have known beforehand that the restaurant was actually closed and only bar meals were available. Also could not believe how one of the managers was speaking to his staff in front of us, not a great way to motivate staff!!!!
Review 34:The hotel is in a great location close to towns but also out of the way and quiet. The staff were helpful and polite.
Review 35:Music in the bar and lounge area would have been nice to give it a bit of atmosphere, another couple commented that 'there was no life' the tv was on but no volume. Specially near Christmas it would have been nice to have some low volume tunes!!
Review 36:Young lady on Reception was lovely, very friendly and relaxed yet professional. We were advised that there would be 2 Christmas functions on later that evening, we were eating out, but it would probably be noisy when we returned. We said that this wouldn't be a problem at all but they moved our allocated room to further away from the areas where the parties were taking place. Room was lovely, spotless and comfortable.
Review 37:Reception staff, there was an English gentleman who seemed to be superior in position to the others, probably in his mid thirties. He was blunt when taking our second payment in advance and we felt he was distrusting us when he hadn't noticed we had made a 'new' booking on booking.com to extend our stay, we didn't know he hadn't noticed our booking because we've made a note about it in the new booking that we are already checked in and wanting to stay longer. He wasn't friendly and was very direct when taking payment which we didn't hesitate to do but it's just the way he spoke was quite a put-off. We even tried to exchange a nice and short conversation with him about our stay and the reasons we we there but he wasn't interested and the girl next to him joined the conversation and was responding while he's silent abc feuded on his screen. This isn't hospitality and not warm not friendly. Otherwise, the rest of staff were very nice and helpful especially the ladies serving at the brasserie.
Review 38:Clean and convenient
Review 39:They attempted to charge us an additional £10 a night for a cot, despite the Booking.com T&Cs saying children in cots stay free. If you are staying here with a child be aware of this extra charge! My wife found the mattress in her bed uncomfortable (double bed was two single mattress), once we changed sides she was able to sleep better.
Review 40:Nicely decorated rooms, sausages at breakfast were very tasty. Lots of car parking space.
Review 41:To noisy! Could hear next doors TV all night while trying to sleep and other guests who attended a Christmas party were very loud in the corridors! Also on the morning on the way to breakfast they was a strong smell of vomit! Cleaners did their best to clean it up but the smell was somewhat overpowering! I appreciate this hotel caters for wedding parties and other kind of parties but it might be useful to advise guests during booking or check in that there is a planned party and it could be noisy! We did complain and received a 50% refund. I'm sure it was just a bad weekend for them however I would be reluctant to book here again.
Review 42:Ideal location near the motorway and the check in was very quick.
Review 43:However, had a stinking nights sleep with a racket from next room all night, I informed staff on checking out, to a " oh yes, that will be the XXXX(nationality) couple" if it was obvious they were a potential problem why put them in a room next to me and a young child!!. After that no interest, suggest Premier Inn type stance
Review 44:The hotel was very nice and near M1 and a lovely little village to stroll to
Review 45:All round very happy with this hotel,we only stayed one night, but as one of my daughters arrived early they very kindly booked her in her room,if I need to be in this area again I would stay here again.thanks.
Review 46:Breakfast buffet not topped up regularly. Had to ask for more when ran out & tea/coffee. No leisure facilities. Bar area needs updating.
Review 47:Staff very helpful & room clean. Breakfast was delicious when they brought it.
Review 48:Stayed at hotel for a night with my partner for a quiet night and staff were very friendly. Also I must point out the worker that was on shift on saturday 22nd November at around 2am quite tall he went out of his way to make us a pizza and chips even though the kitchen was closed thank you very much you made it a very pleasant stay for us as we didnt go to sleep hungry thanks to you we will definately be coming back and also recommending this hotel to others! ?
Review 49:Nice enough hotel, friendly staff and a good breakfast. Room was spacious, comfy bed and some complimentary treats on arrival. Bar was reasonably priced too. Would probably stay again.
Review 50:the room seemed very warm, turn off rad, open window (in november) & still hot.
Review 51:close to motorway but still fairly quiet, nice size room, staff very helpful & friendly especially georgia
Review 52:The layout is strange but have stayed there on previous occasions. However we had to asked to be served twice at the bar as we couldn't see bar staff, also had to have a wine glass returned as there was lipstick markings on it and another wine glass was changed as it had a big chip on the rim
Review 53:Refurbishments have been done to a good standard. Plenty of on-site carparking Continental breakfast was good value with a good choice of cereals and fresh fruit and croissants, full English breakfast was overpriced.
Review 54:Good room with a comfortable bed and exellent bathroom. Relaxed comfortable bar area and very helpful, friendly & polite staff both in the bar and restaurant, Enjoyed the meals served.
Review 55:Despite telling them we had two wheelchair using children the room had steps down to the lift they had a ramp but then had more steps to room eventually took us around the back and went in through the patio doors. They were very apologetic two free glasses of wine, but it really wasn't acceptable.
Review 56:Lovely big bedroom we had family suite which was lovely, had breakfast which was nice. Was quite at night.
Review 57:Mattress a little too hard
Review 58:the hotel was excellent value for money, rooms very clean and good coffee and tea making facilities in the room. Breakfast very nice. would definitely stay there if I had to go to that part of the country again.
Review 59:Many of the rooms are overlooked by other wings of the hotel and as none of the rooms have any net curtains or blinds you cannot open the main curtains due to lack of privacy. This can be a significant inconvenience.
Review 60:Friendly and helpful staff - good for parking
Review 61:Some staff in restaurant didn't have very good English which does make things difficult
Review 62:Lovely grounds Great room Delicious food in the brassiere
Review 63:We used this hotel last year and the reason for the eight of use to return was the excellant meal we had. However this was not repeated and what we had we all felt was overpriced. Pity. Breakfast on the other hand was very good.
Review 64:Location as we were meeting friends from birmingham.
Review 65:Paper thin walls - Woken up by the family next door talking - Unfortuneatly it was at 07:00am on a Sunday morning. Felt like they were in the same room !!
Review 66:Efficient check-in
Review 67:Minor - newspapers, requested in person and on arrival form, were not delivered. The bar area is a bit dismal and prices over the top for an ordinary bar area - £14 for wine and G&!!! We only went once.
Review 68:The staff very friendly and courteous - particularly in the Bistro. Great pet-friendly accommodation. Housekeeping excellent - room was immaculate over our two night stay. The field at the back of hotel was ideal for exercising our dog. Great value for money.
Review 69:Not a very good quality of sleep as a wedding reception taking place (loud music in the evening, drunk people walking up and down the corridor for half of the night, small children running up and down the corridor in the morning...).
Review 70:Nice location, free parking, good standard of accommodation.
Review 71:Staff were excellent in the restaurant and the food was served quickly my daughter was offered an alternative soup even though it wasn't on the menu and the food was excellent too
Review 72:Bar unattended, so had to go to reception, then the man who eventually served us had no idea what he was doing. Another customer joked and said it was like Fawlty Towers and we have to agree. At breakfast my husband asked for scrambled eggs and got a disgruntled response from the staff and she stormed off and he didn't know if she was going to get it or not. The lady behind us was about to order the same and changed her mind from the unpleasant response my husband got. It turned up very quickly and was very nice, but no need for that attitude.
Review 73:Comfortable bed and clean. The breakfast was good , but see note re staff attitude.
Review 74:Pillows in the room were little hard and toilet had a leek ( this was all sorted and we were given a new room)
Review 75:Relaxing atmosphere, wonderful staff and best of all the quality of food in the restaurant.
Review 76:Very bad service at breakfast. No tables in the restaurant available. None in the bar area some very low tables in the top bar area were free but not set for breakfast. The waitress said she would lay the table but forgot. We returned with our food then had to search for the waitress. She then came with cutlery but no cups. She then turned with cups and tea and coffee but no milk or sugar. The food was now quite cold! As table was very low it made it difficult to eat off. On checkout I waited to be asked if everything was ok with our stay but was not. I asked if she was going to ask about our stay. I then told her about the breakfast experience and she went to get the manager. A Scottish man appeared but didn't seem to care. His excuse was that a lot of people arrived at the same time! He asked if I had paid and when I said yes said ok and walked off. The minimum I would have expected would be a refund for the breakfast. I will not be returning!
Review 77:Not a lot!
Review 78:No bad experiences .. but could have had softer pillows.
Review 79:The hotel and grounds are spacious. Staff were efficient and pleasant. Our comfortable room. Great breakfasts!
Review 80:The king size bed was two singles linked together..The restaurant which was the main reason for booking was not available due to a private function and toddlers banging on the door at 2.30 am
Review 81:Customer service skills over the phone (esp. for room service) could be much better. Was transferred to multiple members of staff before I was able to make a card transaction over the phone- 10/15 minutes for a usually easy task.
Review 82:Room and bathroom; facilities were very clean and bed was comfortable. Very swift check in and check out service.
Review 83:Noise from upstairs - you could hear every footstep and late night telephone conversation. I wasn't over keen on the restaurant/ I felt it lacked a bit of atmosphere.
Review 84:Cleanliness and rooms were good The bar/lounge was fine
Review 85:The staff reception were Blunt, unhappy and had zero customer service skills. Hospitality requires an individual who is warm and welcoming not cold and miserable.
Review 86:The comfort of the room was good.
Review 87:A wedding was being held in the hotel which wasn't a problem considering we were out miles away down the labyrinth corridors away from the noise. However, having dinner in the bar area felt awkward as we were among wedding guests and the bride herself so we ordered room service. An hour and a half went by and still not burger or the carbonara! After ringing down to ask it's whereabouts we were told there was a room mix up and our food would be delivered fresh within 5 minutes. Can you make a carbonara in 5 minutes? Neither could they! Quite clearly been microwaved as the sauce has curldled and separated. Having already paid for the meal and waited almost two hours we ate the food and waited until morning to mention our ordeal. Checking out we were dealt with by Matthew, who has clearly had enough of customer service, questioned us paying for our room service which was taken by card payment the night previous. He then said "oh yes, yours was the one with the room mix up" with no apology or sympathy. After telling him then we wouldn't have had it if it wasn't already paid for we showed our receipt to hear a very unsure "I could refund it if you want", We questioned if he was sure because his face and tone suggested otherwise.
Review 88:The hotel seemed clean on first glance, however a few details let it down. Our bin hadn't been changed from the previous guests, a tissue box which had 1 tissue in was in our bathroom and a stained carpet to top it off.
Review 89:A wedding was held there and as the night progressed so did the quality of the environment. When we went down to breakfast a drunken guest was found sleeping in the corridor by reception, there was cake, food and tissues in the corridors, external fire escape doors had been left open so corridors were very cold and drafty and outside in the car park a glass had been broken leaving lots of shards which had not been cleared away - Sloppy management attention from my perspective!
Review 90:Whilst exterior dated, interior very modern and fresh.
Review 91:It's a decent hotel, but it does have its issues. There was a wedding and several other functions on and it was extremely noisy and busy. The front desk was extremely slow, the shower wasn't working in our room and the bed was extremely uncomfortable. There were so many cars from visitors to the functions that we couldn't find anywhere to park, there should be guest only parking. The rooms were very far away from the front desk, which isn't great for me because I couldn't remember the route.
Review 92:It's in a great location
Review 93:I was not able to check in early. I only wanted to say the day (9am to 9pm)and not overnight I ended up paying the whole cost
Review 94:Comfortable stay. Nice location. Lovely staff .
Review 95:It was very busy in the hotel so there was no tabel available for diner. That was something we liked to know before so we good reserve a table
Review 96:Room was clean and big
Review 97:The executive suite had 2 single beds pushed together and was a small room, not worth the money in my opinion, ive stayed in standard cheaper rooms that were better than this.
Review 98:The food was very nice in the restaurant.
Review 99:Room service menu every limited poor selection and not clear what the food accompaniments were. Route march to room got sent 2nd floor lift broken and room not on 2nd floor! Door key didn't work 2nd night which is always irritating
Review 100:Room was a good size & room service was efficient
Review 101:Rooms very small+cramped. Went to our room once checked in, another couple was already in there who had checked in 10mins earlier! We booked+Prepayed for breakfast but we're told the next morning we hadn't+asked to pay again.
Review 102:Great location.
Review 103:The facilities are also used by others eg gym, pool Hotel needs refurbishment but for the price was worth it.
Review 104:Comfort, staff were very accommodating Facilities, gym, steam room, sauna, pool Last minute birthday cake
Review 105:Allocated a distant room although husband clearly struggling on crutches. Stairs not clearly marked so I fell on them. No staff available trained on use of available (& apparently inappropriate for adults) wheelchair. No non-dairy spread at breakfast.
Review 106:Clean room, complimentary snacks & water, tea coffee. Staff tried to be helpful.
Review 107:Bar staff weren't the fastest. No light or heat in the outdoor patio area after dark.
Review 108:Nice location with lots of country paths & walks right on the doorstep. Room was very comfortable.
Review 109:The breakfast choice was very limited and only okay
Review 110:Room was very nicely decorated, very comfortable and spotlessly clean. Staff were very friendly and helpful.
Review 111:No disabled parking, there was a wedding on and the wedding cars were all parked in the disabled spaces. Parking was limited. If you are going to stay here I would check there is not a wedding on first as it got quite noisy especially at 3am
Review 112:Checking is was good and the staff helpful
Review 113:I requested well done bacon at breakfast and I had burnt bacon and so didn't eat it. Not to worry next time I hope its better
Review 114:Comfortable and clean. Staff lovely and helpful
Review 115:Having enjoyed an excellent break we noticed we had left some luggage at the hotel. This turned out to be not such a problem as the hotel sent the item to us through the post. Excellent service and hotel
Review 116:perhaps because of full occupancy the bar lounge area was full of people eating no where to sit and just have a drink from the bar, ended up taking a drink back to the bedroom.
Review 117:location was excellent, bedroom large and very clean nice on suit.breakfast very good
Review 118:Breakfast service - short staffed, disorganised, kept running out of cooked items on the buffet and not able to keep up with demand. Chaotic.
Review 119:Nice quiet location, large room perfect for family, comfortable bed, clean modern bathroom.
Review 120:Felt like a rabbit warren of corridors to get to our room from reception- but the staff acknowledged this with little jokey messages posted up on the way!
Review 121:Friendly helpful staff
Review 122:See above!
Review 123:I liked the venue although we couldn't get wi-fi! Very annoying we tried and tried but did get it. Also at night there was a fire door that kept on slamming!
Review 124:I thought the buffet breakfast was a bit average and should have been included - to pay £11.95 a head felt a bit much.
Review 125:Really lovely staff: helpful and friendly, always a big plus when you have children. The evening meal in the brasserie was excellent. The decor and room itself were great. Well positioned for visiting Watner Bros studio. Would definitely go again if in the area.
Review 126:Room and bathroom were both a little cramped, but perfectly adequate. Although quite handy for St Albans, Redbourn itself does not have anything to recommend it.
Review 127:The room was clean and the staff very helpful and friendly. Quiet location.
Review 128:Only problem was not told at time of booking about steps up and down. Ramp on steps was very steep.
Review 129:all of the staff were very helpful. One man told us we needed to change rooms because of steps. Came and helped at desk.
Review 130:The room was rather hot but we just assumed that this was because the weather was hot on the day we stayed.
Review 131:It is a quiet location. Staff were polite when I phoned and on check in/out.
Review 132:No net curtains, and the room was over looked by the main hallway, so had to keep the curtains closed at all times. In the shower, the hand grip made the washing area small, and the door kept attacking me. Also a long and winding way to the room.
Review 133:The bed was very comfortable, and the TV had excellent coverage.
Review 134:Room disappointing - uncomfortable sofa bed with ill-fitting bedding; loose taps in bathroom; not enough cups etc in bedroom; kettle broken (but quickly replaced). Dinner v disappointing - not offered children's menu even when asked staff if one existed; portions far too big.
Review 135:Reception staff friendly; good breakfast. Good location - easy access to Harry Potter Studios.
Review 136:We have stayed here on so many occasions but tthere was something missing this time - smiles! I have always rated the staff very highly but the service seemed a little off-hand and disinterested. Shame! The hotel itself is really nice and the standards of cleanliness are excellent and the location is lovely.
Review 137:The reception staff refused to change the room which was not properly cleaned and with dull view using words like: What do you expect for £62 pounds? We just paid for the room and left right away!
Review 138:The location!
Review 139:Facilities limited (no pool, etc), upstairs rooms rather stuffy in warm weather.
Review 140:Location suited our needs (close to Harpenden), rooms smart and well maintained.
