Reviews for Best Western Lansdowne Hotel
Review 1:The shower head seemed to be locked in the "save water" mode, which struggles to even get you wet! Solution: have a bath (defeating the idea of saving water), or take the shower head off and use the shower hose as a hose pipe! Strange to try and save water during the wettest winter ever!
Review 2:Price is incredibly competitive even for off season, it would be hard to find anywhere that offers such value let alone a prime location on the seafront. The bed was super comfy, the place is warm, clean and has a bar/restaurant. Breakfast was great, absolutely first class.
Review 3:I booked late when I got to reception the man was extremely helpful we had a long journey so was great to stay in a clean warm room breakfast staff were extremely helpful service fantastic
Review 4:Communal areas smelt like a care home. It was very cold on arrival until they switched on the heating. This place is looking very tired . It will be left behind unless there is some serious investment
Review 5:Location. Room was big
Review 6:Disabled ramp needed for the amount of older people who stay.2 indoor lifts were tiny and ancient one broke down while we were there. The floors creaked on every step along corridors and in our room annoying for others too Some staff were not attentive in the lounges clearing tables after coffee Hotel seemed quite cold at times also the bedroom heater came on too late. The bathroom was the warmest place to be. Dining we were given 3 different area's to eat on our 3 nights which we didn't like..
Review 7:The location was perfect, and a sea view room was worth the extra money Most staff were very friendly, helpful, The lovely attractive building with many different lounges, which were bright and spacious, although but it does need a revamp, the food was very good, and very well served by happy and efficient staff, lovely hot scones served in the afternoon a nice treat with tea or coffee, good evening entertainment, beds really comfy and warm, we would certainly return one day.
Review 8:Bed in booked original room looked as though it had been laid on and there were also crumbs on bed. Moved to a superior room (at no extra cost) which was roomier. However the shower pressure was disappointing
Review 9:Good sized room (eventually) with a sea view.
Review 10:Nothing to dislike but perhaps the corridors could do with decorating
Review 11:My husband and I went for New Year's Eve, and although we were too late for booking the gala package, we had a meal in the bar,and was made to feel very welcome, and they even gave us a free glass of champagne and joined in with the dancing at 12.00. Also the breakfast was brilliant with lots of choices
Review 12:I think the hotel generally need upgrading. There was a rather "faded" feel about the decor and facilities.
Review 13:Happy about location and the courtesy of the staff
Review 14:Christmas evening meal was a bit disappointing and not enough entertainment for us , we had an 18 and 7 year old
Review 15:Such comfy beds and a lovely size family room . Breakfast was superb .
Review 16:The room is outdated, the bed and bathroom are old, reasonably clean but outdated. Okay for one night but not a holiday location.
Review 17:Location is good, we had a nice sea view room. The town is nice, quite good restaurants and close to the seven sisters and beachy head area.
Review 18:One of the rooms allocated had very noisy floorboards which creaked every time I walked across the room. Also, the room then allocated on third had constant movement between the lift, double doors to the store cupboard.
Review 19:The breakfast was very good. Also, I could be in the hotel and not feel conspicuous that I was on my own.
Review 20:The curtains obviously rehung when paintwork was still wet, also hanging down at one end of curtain rail, looked shabby.
Review 21:Convenient for our needs, a celebration lunch in a hotel next door.
Review 22:Pets (dogs) in communal food/lounge areas and on the seats! Not nice as allergic and no warning about this! Shower bit weedy! All clean but decor needs updating.
Review 23:Sea view,
Review 24:We were told parking was free on the road and ended up with a parking ticket. Also I ran a bath and it was full of dust and hair so possibly hadn't been cleaned for a while.
Review 25:Very friendly helpful staff, nice location
Review 26:Could not fault this hotel.
Review 27:We loved everything about this hotel. Staff, bedroom, lounge areas and dining room excellent. Only had breakfast, you could not have found better. Going back with a group in February as excellent access to the theatre's.
Review 28:The bar was not available until 6pm on a Saturday evening when there were a dozen or so people hanging around from 5ish!
Review 29:Location. A good number of separate rooms to relax in to the front of the building.
Review 30:Shower over the bath ran too hot, even with cold tap on full. Breakfast items could have been hotter.
Review 31:Large family room with an extra toilet and washbasin. Complimentary bottled water. Comfortable and elegant lounges. Good service from the staff.
Review 32:The location was ideal as we were going to the Theatre. Parking was easy, we have a Blue Badge and could park almost outside and did not have to pay in the low season
Review 33:Booking in was a little stress due to begin with the man on reception stated we were not booked in
Review 34:It was very busy at the bar but Tom the barmen made a specail effect to make sure every one was happy
Review 35:Reception staff on arrival rather 'off-hand'. Some staff's lack of English meant one or two minor 'mishaps'. We'd also paid in advance but due to the aforementioned reception staff on arrival, were charged again for the first night B&B on checkout. Checkout staff were fine in dealing with this problem
Review 36:Comfortable good sized bedroom with bath Quality breakfasts with a wide choice of options included for the standard price Ground floor has a series of 'social areas' and extended bar spaces plus an area specifically for dogs and their owners
Review 37:Breakfast was not plentiful and they ran out of things and their was a bit of a hiatus with the serving staff on the morning we had breakfas!!
Review 38:Fabulous location sand v helpful staff
Review 39:the room was next to a very noisy lift which was constantly used even at 3.30am.
Review 40:Even though sleep was interrupted we would stay again but not in that room.
Review 41:The pavement, had been fouled by a dog, on the Saturday, & was still there on the Sunday. Outside the HOTEL. The COUNCIL Should be checking & prosecuting.
Review 42:This is our 3rd stay. And our ROOM 238 was spacious, & Clean, & the staff were very helpfull. We will return. Excellent.
Review 43:Last two days a convention took over the hotel blocking the entrance, and at least 4 people smoking at front door all day. Cheap seat fitted to the toilet, bent and moved when used.
Review 44:Cleanliness and location.
Review 45:The shower in the bathrooms is in a bath, which is a bit complicated
Review 46:We could change the room because of too much noise in the booked room and were lucky to get an excellent room with ocean view!
Review 47:the room was not as expected - nothing like the photos on the website. Our room was tiny with one single bed up against the wall. Would not have stayed there if the pictures on the website had been more like the room.
Review 48:The staff were very pleasant and helpful. Hotel in good location. Lounge areas very cosy and comfortable. Bar facilities good.
Review 49:Mild spell but heating on high so couldn't sleep under the thick duvet so just slept under the cover. Food only fair. Had a beef stew but it was inedible as too salty.
Review 50:Good position. Friendly staff. Good breakfast,
Review 51:The rooms could do with some updating and the doors slam shut when left to close. Also, make sure you're not staying by lift. The staff very kindly moved us to a quieter room when I requested.
Review 52:Location. It's right on the promenade at the quieter end. Perfect for walking! The cooked breakfast was decent and the staff were helpful and pleasant
Review 53:Apart from breakfast the dining room food was below the general standard of the hotel.
Review 54:Efficient and friendly staff. Elegant public rooms. Well lit comfortable bedroom with armchairs and table and sea view.
Review 55:no power sockets need the bed, few in the room in general. Wifi was weak when working, was down for about half a day during our stay.
Review 56:For us it was fine as it was a 5-8min walk from the car park..elderly might want to park on the street until 6:30pm (pay display, better prices than London.) Pool table in the basement
Review 57:Room was unbearably hot. Window opened on flat roof where rubbish had been discarded including a pair of underpants!
Review 58:Staff were polite and friendly. Breakfast was good and location was ideal.
Review 59:Unfortunately the hotel was full the weekend we chose. We were allocateda room in the back of the building with the lift as our immediateneighbour, despite requesting an up-grade at the time of booking for asea facing room. Our sleep mode was severely impaired - not happy.
Review 60:We enjoyed our visit and will use the hotel again in future.
Review 61:Felt that bar staff appeared minimal - many times saw other guests waiting for a member of staff to appear behind the bar. Also felt bar area could be larger and more comfortable.
Review 62:Location excellent and wonderful comfortable lounges - ideal for reading. Helpful staff both behind reception and housekeeping.
Review 63:Room far to hot even with window wide open plus they empties the dustbins or something around 5:30 am Shower in bath not practical for older person and no other room available would ensure you don't get one of these rooms when booking
Review 64:Old fashioned English hotel with nice friendly atmosphere
Review 65:The night of Sept.8/15 the smell of salmon from supper time was quite strong in front lobby.
Review 66:Close walking distance to pier and shopping and clean and comfortable room.
Review 67:The food was outstanding. Every dinner menu I chose was excellent with really generous helpings. We were there for four days and the menu was varied each day. As for the breakfasts all choices were catered for; hot food, cereals, toast with quality jam/marmalade, croissants, fruit juices. All meals arranged with clean white dressed tables. Coffee and tea plentiful and came in individual pots. Young waiters very helpful and smiling always. All staff pleasant and helpful.
Review 68:The section Type of Traveller in this survey. I cannot answer it truthfully as I was with my brother. I do not regard 'mature couple' as a proper description of us, so I have ticked solo traveller which is not accurate !
Review 69:My brother and I having been staying at the Lansdowne for many years. We like the consistency of the high standard of service. It is clearly a hotel run in a way to make the residents feel that they are being well looked after
Review 70:Getting to our booked family room required negotiating 4 or 5 stairs down then big step into the room so not suitable for my 90yr old mum
Review 71:The receptionist and manager had such helpful attitudes and spent a lot of time showing me alternative rooms until a suitable one was found
Review 72:Great location, beautiful hotel and staff were extremely helpful when we needed advice on local area, breakfast was lovely and staff very prompt and polite, my partner and I are coming back in October for a long weekend to relax and can't wait, highly recommended
Review 73:The loo seat was loose. My companions shower head & holder fell apart. The duvet was too hot with no other options The description "meal options" actual means NO BREAKFAST!
Review 74:Rooms were spacious, clean & reasonably well decorated
Review 75:The check in/out was quick and easy, the staff really friendly, the breakfast was really tasty and there was plenty to choose from. The room was really clean, comfortable and we had a fabulous view of the sea. I would definitely stay here again
Review 76:Breakfast service on the Sunday was very poor We asked for a news paper for two mornings, but none were delivered.
Review 77:The food was good Hotel was quite clean It was in a good location
Review 78:As vegetarians we asked for veggie sausages, listed in the menu but a waiter gave us a simple we don't have, the staff at the restaurant were not very attentive and they forgot one pot of coffee.
Review 79:the location, the room was very spacious, the social areas.
Review 80:The one thing that let it down was that I used the public toilet in the morning and reported to staff that there was no soap in either of the dispensers. I am sorry to say that later that day (a lot later) this still had not been addressed. I ended up having to report it to reception. This one thing let the hotel down!
Review 81:It's obvious that the Lansdowne has had a face lift since we were there last. Our room was excellent with new drapes and newly upholstered chairs and stool. Adequate hanging space and a lovely large bathroom. We found the bar food was superior to the restaurant food and a lot cheaper!
Review 82:The first night we had a very hot room with a radiator that could not be turned off even though it was summer. However the staff moved us for the rest of our stay, without any fuss, to a lovely room with a sea view.
Review 83:A good quality hotel at a reasonable price and very friendly and helpful staff.
Review 84:None
Review 85:Very efficient and friendly staff, lovely double sea view room.. A most enjoyable dinner. Maitre D, helped to make the evening, professional but funny.
Review 86:For the money I paid I would have expected breakfast to be included. Room was a little too warm for me.
Review 87:Staff were great. Room was a very good size and comfortable.
Review 88:Not a dislike, but a minor oddity - our room (245) had two picture hooks on the wall, one above & one opposite the bed, but no pictures, although there were agreeable paintings in the hotel's public rooms.
Review 89:We liked the spacious room & bathroom, the comfortable lounges with good views of the Western Lawns & the sea, the lunch in the bar & the breakfast in the restaurant, & the easy access to the promenade.
Review 90:The room was too small, no air conditioning and the bathroom and furniture both need updating. Only a trickle of water from the shower.
Review 91:The location was good and the staff were very helpful.
Review 92:In the busy time, it's quite difficult to find the car park close to the hotel.
Review 93:The seafront is in front of the hotel (only across the road). The room view can see the seafront as well. Cleanliness is dominant. The cable TV is many choice with the strong signal. The snack bar with tea bags are fully free provided.
Review 94:The size of the double bed was little more than a large single bed. The room was huge so would have accommodated a King-size bed which you usually find in hotels of your standard
Review 95:The convenience of the hotel
Review 96:Would like more variety with breakfast menu. More fish on the menu -for those who do not like meat. The Wi-Fi WAS A BIT SLOW.
Review 97:Beautiful location, very pleasant staff and responsive staff-who always smiled.
Review 98:Superb location right on the best part of the seafront, great value, I had a comfortable quiet room (at the back) and nice bathroom, friendly staff, and loads of armchairs in comfortable lounges all facing the sea. Lovely bright dining room and lounges. I didn't dine so can't comment on the food.
Review 99:The housekeeping staff forgot to provide the laundry bag in the room so I went to the reception desk to ask for the bag. It was around 22:00 on that day, and according to booking.com the hotel should have 24 hrs reception. Unfortunately nobody was at the reception, and I had to ring the bell and wait for 10 minutes for someone to come and help. A lady wearing black uniform jacket was not far from the reception, she had seen me waiting there but never came and help. Finally a kind guy working at the restaurant passed by and got a male staff to help me with the problem. That staff was friendly and was trying to get a laundry bag for me, and the lady with the black uniform jacket had finally came to the reception. No one apologized for no laundry bag in the room, and when I repeated that I needed a laundry bag, the lady with black jacket only dropped one sentence without any smile:'' not today. Tomorrow.'' It was the male staff who finally brought me a laundry bag on that day, and he also helped me with my lugguage. The next day when I required room service for the breakfast, a staff from the restaurant simply brought the breakfast to my room with a cold face, ''enjoy'' was her only word and no smile at all. The other thing I disliked was the bathroom, there were some hair in the bath when I checked in and entered the room, can't stand this, but I had to clean the dirty things before using the bath. The hot water in the bath was not hot, and the water from the shower was small. All the above made my visit to Eastbourne very unhappy. Had tried many hotels within the UK, this is the worst experience, will never come to Eastbourne again.
Review 100:Room was fine, with good sea view.
Review 101:No music in the lounge in the evenings. Toilet situated behind the bathroom door makes it difficult to sit on the seat, very cramped.
Review 102:Staff all very friendly.
Review 103:Room was a little stuffy and could benefit from ac or at least a fan in Summer, slightly noisy but weekend and party / wedding on so to be expected
Review 104:Staff, location and comfort were great did not eat there for dinner but looked good, breakfast was good and tasty
Review 105:bedroom not made up until had to ask for it
Review 106:really good position for getting around the town and theatres plenty of lounges and comfortable chairs. helpful staff.
Review 107:the only thing was the hot water. It never seemed to be hot my father who is 81 wanted a bath but the water was to cold to do this, maybe it was just a problem whilst we were there, I hope so.
Review 108:brilliant location, friendly staff, relaxed easy ambiance.
Review 109:Rooms are rather dated but scrupulously clean. The additional £10 for having the dog seemed rather odd given no charge for children who I know would have made more of a mess
Review 110:Brilliant location and we had a sea view. We had our dog Monty with us and he adored the balcony plus there being a special lounge where dogs were allowed so he could join us for post dinner drinks. Staff were all super friendly and very helpful
Review 111:We are a couple who have several little breaks every few weeks. We stay at Great Western hotels whenever we can because you can always find a welcoming smile, good service and great food, spotlessly clean hotels with an eye to guests comforts.
Review 112:There was a bike race on, so the road in front of hotel was closed for the whole weekend. We had to use much more expensive parking areas and my elderly grandmother had to walk far as a result. There was also a super-loud (much too loud to sleep) concert/show in the hotel until 1am!
Review 113:Staff were friendly and tried to be helpful. Room had a nice view of the sea. The hotel has a number of nice lounge areas with comfy chairs, and although we didn't have a chance to use them, it looked very welcoming.
Review 114:Beds were comfortable; I stay in hotels a lot and uncomfortable beds are the bain of my life, so this was great. Lounge was really well set out and pleasant, with delightful views and the bar staff were particularly pleasant.
Review 115:The toilet brush was filthy. No access to the balcony (1st floor).
Review 116:Very comfortable bed! Bathroom and showeroom were handy for two people getting ready at the same time. Lovely sitting area.
Review 117:The breakfast was very disappointing being a buffet, worst scrambled eggs we have ever had, the rest of the food was just warm, toast should be served at the end, as when we came to eat it at the end of the meal, it was like cardboard
Review 118:The staff were very friendly and our room overlooking the sea was excellent, although the bathroom was rather tired
Review 119:It was good all round. Can't say I have any complaints as such, but events outside hotel were a bit disturbing. Not their fault though.
Review 120:Well run hotel, no problems for guests, i.e. excessive noise, cleanliness, good properly cooked food and comfortable.
Review 121:I wrote to the hotel before we went there but did not get any answer.
Review 122:Nothing wrong with the hotel really, but I thought it was a bit expensive. You can get the same standard somewhere else for a lower price so I guess it is the sea view you pay for.
Review 123:Could not open the windows properly, so inside it was a sauna. Keep the don,t disturb sign outside the door if you want have an afternoon nap, everyday there was a knock at the door just when I had lied down on the bed for a variety of reasons.
Review 124:The view is excellent
Review 125:The price was far to high for the standard of room.Plus the day before stayed at The View just along the road which was half the price of the Lansdowne more modern and included breakfast!!
Review 126:I thought we had booked a breakfast but this was not on the list.
Review 127:I was extremely impressed by this hotel. The staff were extremely friendly, the rooms were all beautifully decorated and the food was very good. Ideally situated for walking and for the shops. We had a lovely large room with ample room to sit and enjoy the views over the sea. Would definitely visit again.
Review 128:The staff were very helpful particularly as I was a late check in due to a long journey. The hotel and bedroom were clean and tidy and just what I needed for a short stay. Would stay again.
Review 129:The facilities for getting a wheelchair in and out were not good.and the lift was hardly big enough to take chair and myself
Review 130:The room was lovely and with sea view. Breakfast was good with nice selection
Review 131:Very hot in the room at night, so wife could not sleep. Reception could not award my BW reward points as I did not have my card with me..
Review 132:Convenient location, lovely breakfast, helpful staff
Review 133:Nothing to report.
Review 134:Spacious, well-furnished, well-lit bedroom, and elegant and well-maintained public rooms. Desk staff excellent. Superb dining and restaurant staff. It is civilised and elegant without being pretentious. This makes it the perfect English seaside hotel for us.
Review 135:I couldn't stay longer...
Review 136:The team at Lansdowne Hotel is one the best teams I've ever comeacross. Sue is such a nice lady and Vicente unbeliable friendly. Theirdevotion and willingness to help is something I haven't seen in awhile. It is worth to mention the breakfast team and its manager, faultless!!! Well done you all!!
Review 137:We booked only a few days before and were told on street parking was available "across the road" for £1 /day courtesy the Council". We understood that two hours before we arrived on Thursday the Council confiscated the parking and closed the drop off access from Saturday 05-00 to 20-00 on Sunday. The only benefit was no traffic from 06-00, which had woken us on Friday. The Council attitude to hotel guests was contemptuous. They could have reserved parking for us in adjacent side streets, but did nothing so they filled with cycle competitors and supporters cars. I had to travel half a mile to find parking-making my £1 voucher worthless. They were difficult with the hotel about a drop off zone round the corner and made a coach drivers loading task very difficult. The cycle racers treated us as an intrusive nuisance.
Review 138:Hotel room overlooking the gardens and sea was very good. Staff helpful, breakfast good. Convenient for the main attractions.
Review 139:We enjoy our stay every time we visit.
Review 140:The hotel interior is in keeping with its 1930's-50's charm and is not pretending to be anything else. By retaining these elements and not updating it to a contemporary feel-the hotel remains a wonderful time capsule and an experience well worth repeating.
The Fine Print
