Reviews for Alma Lodge Hotel

Review 1:Check-in & Reception attentive, efficient & staff overall friendly & willing to assist with any problem even if not directly assigned to that particular duty.

Review 2:Wifi internet was disappointing in rooms 24 and 25. The connection was erratic and frustrating. Even though we reported it to the reception on several occasions, it seemed they were unable to fix it.

Review 3:The rooms were very clean and comfortable. Breakfast was excellent. Good service all around.

Review 4:Nothing to dislike.

Review 5:The interior of the hotel is lovely with a comfortable, welcoming and homely feel. All the staff were warm, friendly and efficient from the receptionists to the evening waiting staff and breakfast waiting staff. The food was excellent both evening restaurant and breakfast.. The room was clean, warm and comfortable. I would not hesitate to stay there again or recommend it to others. My wife and I stayed over Christmas and will use it as first choice on any future stays.

Review 6:I wish that the wifi had worked properly in our room and the room was a little dated but nothing majorly wrong.

Review 7:I thought it was great value for money especially with breakfast being included. The staff and security on the reception desk were very funny and made me feel welcome as soon as I arrived! I stayed over as my works Christmas do was being held in the main function room and I'd definitely be tempted to stay again!

Review 8:I really can't fault the Alma Lodge on anything, and having stayed there a number of times over the years I can speak from considerable experience. Nice, friendly staff. Clean, comfortable rooms, and very quiet too. I've had a good night's sleep every time I've stayed there. The location is perfect too, being on the A6 it gives you easy access to the town centre. Visiting Stockport? Stay at the Alma.

Review 9:No lifts and room some way from dining room and reception. Travelled with elderly mother who found the distance and stairs to be difficult.

Review 10:Great spacious rooms. Very clean. Good value. Would recommend.

Review 11:noise old facilities bad breakfast no mini bar

Review 12:i was luck to pay for the expensive room. colleagues went for the basic package and their room was a disaster

Review 13:Breakfast. You have to wait for the cooked foods to be put in the hot trolley....which is served more than 5 minutes after. It should always be readily available, consodering the number of guests they have

Review 14:Room is quite comfortable for a family. Beds are made up neatly and overall cleanliness is good

Review 15:You shouldn't be running out of toilet roll in the Ladies on a busy party night. And the shower in my room was rubbish - the low pressure may be understandable, but the holder doesn't work either so what little water there was was pointing at the wall.

Review 16:Most of the staff were very friendly and helpful (desk staff in particular put themselves out to help), but I was definitely tutted at by one member of staff when I asked for a pot of tea after breakfast. The hotel is very nicely done up and spotlessly clean.

Review 17:Once i got back to my room i realized that all my clothes , luggage etc were disappeared..after an initial shock i went to the reception and i have been informed all my stuffs were moved to another room because of some problems at the bathtub. Problem is that noone informed me about it, so you can immagine how shocked i was once i entered in my room without find all my stuffs! Other little problem: shower gel should be provided in a bigger daily quantity(20 ml per day is not enough!)

Review 18:very clean rooms and very helpfull staff at the reception(especially the gentleman that work during weekend at the reception and that managed to find for me an adaptor for my laptop. Thank you very much Sir, without your help i was lost ). Front of the hotel there is a bus that bring you to Manchester city center and also to the airport. Breakfast is OK. To sum up: I May go back to this Hotel because i liked very much how helpful is the staff at the reception

Review 19:There was nothing not to like.

Review 20:Friendly & helpful staff, excellent location, excellent accommodation, I will definitely stay again, thank you so much!

Review 21:Our corridor smelt of cigarettes and when our taxi didn't turn up in the centre of town, the late night reception staff refused to get in touch with a taxi company for us. We couldn't get a signal to google a company in Stockport, so we spent about 30 minutes in the freezing cold trying to find one. Not happy!

Review 22:The lady at the reception was very nice, and the breakfasts were good.

Review 23:Staff on reception very caring and helpful. Needed an extra night in same room , they were alert to any cancellations and quickly had it sorted for me .I felt cared for .

Review 24:Nothing to complain about.

Review 25:Very comfortable hotel. Excellent foold in the restaurant. Freindly staff. Not a new establishment but clean and not shaby.

Review 26:Bathrooms needed towel rails and hooks.

Review 27:Staff were fantastic. Convience of restaurant or bar meals. Public transport was on door step and ran regularly.

Review 28:One of the waitresses had very long hair not tied back. Staff was informed.

Review 29:Luigi's Restaurant was a pleasure. The food was excellent and the service.

Review 30:Staff is not the friendliest. Helpful but just not friendly. (no good morning, no - can I help you)

Review 31:Breakfast included. Generally clean and comfortable

Review 32:Food was an issue on one occasion when I was given a half raw piece of salmon which I sent back only to be told that most people prefer it that way. Really!!!

Review 33:We liked the comfort of the room, the beds were lovely and there was a bath.

Review 34:Breakfast staff unwelcoming, people having breakfast almost a problem for them?

Review 35:All staff except for breakfast team were excellent, hotel clean and comfortable with everything we needed.

Review 36:Too many Stairs,,,it was difficult without a lift I have lung cancer and my daughter is six months pregnant ,so carrying cases up and down stairs was tough

Review 37:It Was clean

Review 38:The shower - instructions including tuning the hot bath tap on and off and then the water was tepid with low water pressure.

Review 39:Free parking, full English breakfast

Review 40:I was on crutches and there was no lift so I had to crawl up the stairs to get yo my befdroom and yet I had e mailed ahead to let them know that I was unable to get up stairs

Review 41:The food was good

Review 42:The staff at night were rude... no lifts in the property for those of age... I was carrying bottled watter and other glasses on a try up three flights of stairs and not a single person helped me up. There were spiders and mould in the bathroom

Review 43:Nothing about this place was nice

Review 44:The knocking shop being run in the next door room. How does a prostitue operate in a relatively small hotel with only one entrance in and out past the main desk for her clients. Clearly someone knows about it and was being paid a backhander. Horrible night!

Review 45:Location was easy to find, room was clean, breakfast was ok.

Review 46:When secondary double glazing was pulled back to open window you can hear the traffic noise. However this was not an issue in October.

Review 47:Large quiet room with plenty of space. En-suite bathroom with full size bath and shower over bath. Breakfast was as expected in a large hotel a self serve hot buffet with the usual cooked English Breakfast items and a self serve cold buffet with as expected juices, milk, fruit salad etc. The location is ideal for us so this is a return visit to Alma Lodge Hotel.

Review 48:We have never stayed in a 4star hotel with such good service and facilities yet alone this excellent 3star hotel. We only stayed one night on route to the airport the following day but we will certainly use it again.

Review 49:waitress in restaurant a little surly and made it quite plain that it was time for us to go so that she could go home

Review 50:revisit hotel where we held our wedding reception 45 years ago

Review 51:The location and appearance of the hotel are less than impressive. Very dated in the reception and corridors but better in the rooms.

Review 52:There is little on the plus side other than the bed was reasonably comfortable and had good pressure from the shower. The staff in the restaurant were friendly and efficient, the food was okay but nothing special.

Review 53:Hotel located along the main road about one mile from Stockport town centre. The 192 bus to Piccadilly passes in front of the hotel so perfactly located for travel into Manchester and into the Peak District. The breakfast buffet is very good. I have stayed at this hotel before and will do Again when in the area.

Review 54:No drinking water available in the room, room looked completely different to how it did online, was expecting a bit more. Breakfast was running low and not topped up. (9am)

Review 55:Room was clean and fairly spacious. Good selection of TV channels to watch in the evening. Quiet and bed comfortable. Allowed me to check out at 12 instead of 11 due to a late business meeting.

Review 56:Breakfast items running out before service was due to end and being asked to leave the dining room almost immediately after 10am.

Review 57:Comfortable rooms at a reasonable price.

Review 58:Room was rather hot, so had to open window and there was a noisy event taking place in the hotel which lasted until about 12:30

Review 59:Easily reached by public transport

Review 60:Room more than big enough for 3 adults, and was spotless. Ate in the restaurant in the evening which was also very good. Great value for money, would definitely go back if I was visiting the area again.

Review 61:Could hear noise from club downstairs. I think there was a wedding but it wound up about 11 so wasn't too bad.

Review 62:Good staff. Clean room, free wi-fi, good breakfast, good value for money. Convenient to davenport train station.

Review 63:Not a bad experience, just the room was a bit depressing, and although I booked a single room I am not used to single beds.

Review 64:Staff were lovely, from reception to waitresses.

Review 65:The 1st morning was buffet breakfast, the food wasn't as hot as it could be. There was a long wait for fried eggs and the young members of staff didn't seem to know what was expected of them in their role.

Review 66:The breakfast was better on the 2nd morning. The order was taken by a lady and the food was hot. The room was comfortable.

Review 67:The staff at breakfast could have been more helpful. No-one was very keen to ask if we wanted tea or coffee.

Review 68:A very quiet room which was appreciated considering there were two weddings taking place.

Review 69:Looking at the menu I found the prices high. Parking not very good and trying to exit the hotel very difficult.

Review 70:Doors which had been taken off the wardrobe. Lighting poor

Review 71:Breakfast was terrible we went down to breakfast at 9 .on a Sunday breakfast is served 8 til 10 ran out of bread bacon eggs butter everything was cold.

Review 72:The breakfast staff wasn't there to help had to keep asking for the things we wanted, breakfast wasn't that great luke warm not hot and rubbery

Review 73:Rooms where really clean and tidy everything was there we needed and comfy

Review 74:Noise from parties/functions (we were warned of this in advance) Limited hot water/weak shower on Saturday morning

Review 75:Price, location, good breakfast, friendly staff

Review 76:Booked a taxi with receptionist on check in but at time of arrival it didn't come. Checked with new receptionist and it had not been ordered by original receptionist. Luckily she was able to re order and it came within ten minutes.

Review 77:Clean hotel. Very comfy bed. Bedroom itself well maintained and everything I required. Nice buffet breakfast. Would definitely stay again if in the area.

Review 78:WiFi next to useless. !0 mins needed to check email. Needed to open door to room even to get signal. (no its not my equipment 3 top of the range devices and plenty of skill) Evening meal in restaurant almost inedible. Appeared to be microwaved economy freezer food but at a premium price with fast food outlet service. At least breakfast was edible

Review 79:Clean and bright. Comfortable room but would expect that having booked a premium room

Review 80:The only problem I had with my stay was when I ordered room service. I only order a chicken salad sandwich with side of chips. I was advised it would be 20 mins. After 30 mins reception called to see if my order had arrived - to which my answer was no. She said she would chase it. After 1 hr and 20 mins my food finally arrived. No apology or discount was offered.

Review 81:The room was cosy and had everything needed for a very comfortable stay. Enjoyed a lovely bath also :) Very lovely family run hotel. Would definitely stay again.

Review 82:nothing

Review 83:Everything was explained by the staff for cleaning of the room & bar facilities over the holiday weekend. The breakfast has very good choices : Cereals fruit and cooked all varied and excellent.

Review 84:No lift. No detachable shower fixture. No mixer tap at sink. No towel railing in bathroom. Breakfast time needs to be extended. More selection of breakfast.

Review 85:Staff. Comfort. Location.

Review 86:breakfast was average not special. coffee at the restaurant was weak and awful coffee in the morning was strong and awful.

Review 87:Convenient location. good and clean room pleasant staff evening meal in luigis

Review 88:The hotel although clean, is very tired and in need of a total refurb and upgrade. Waited 20 minutes in the lounge for a coffee having asked the receptionist but no sign of any waitress so eventually had to go elsewhere.

Review 89:Good breakfast.

Review 90:Windows are double glazed and quiet. However if window open at night the main road is still busy and noisy.

Review 91:Well managed and efficient hotel. Extremely clean with attention to detail.

Review 92:Good location for links to train, buses . Good choice and quality of food in restaurant and for breakfast. Friendly staff. Very clean premises. Plenty of supplies of beverages in room.

Review 93:The internet connection was dreadfull . The evening meal was not of a good standard. The hotel was noisy. I was awoke at 2am by a person down the corridor shouting on his phone. this went on for 10 mins. I made my complaint to night porter. Nothing done. Did not even visit. I am only 5 ft 11 and the bed was very small the sheets were up to my chest and when I tried to get warm by pulling the sheets up, they came out of the divan and I was very cold . Room was the far side of the hotel. With Suit Case Laptop and Projector and no lift it was a real problem

Review 94:The location to my work place was good

Review 95:The shower was very poor, in wrong position, also the water in the sink wasn't suitable for drinking.

Review 96:Very clean, large room. Nice places to sit and have a drink downstairs. Enjoyed the breakfast.

Review 97:Courteous helpful accomodating staff, went beyond the call of duty to place my wife and I in a room well before normal check in time, thank you. I cannot speak too highly of all the excellent service we received at The Alma Lodge, particularly at a busy time for them (wedding).

Review 98:I have no complaints about Alma Lodge hotel.

Review 99:I particularly enjoyed the great service provided by Christos in the dining room. In fact all staff were very helpful. The food was very tasty.

Review 100:Can be a long walk from reception to your room if you have difficulty walking as the hotel is horseshoe shaped, but the plus side is you can be well away from the function room. Wi-fi dropped out a couple of times but did work most of the time.

Review 101:The staff on reception and in the breakfast room were friendly. Car parking has plenty of space even if you get in late. Clean and tidy rooms. Plenty of choice on the Breakfast menu.

Review 102:My car was damaged in the car park and the person who did it drove off. There is no CCTV at this hotel. Be Warned!

Review 103:Food in the italian resturant was superb

Review 104:There are not enough coat hangers 5 for two people is insufficient double would be better. TV was too low could not virew sitting up in bed.

Review 105:The room was lovely and clean staff very helpful and breakfast excellent.

Review 106:I was there with family for my sons wedding the hotel was good but because there were two weddings going on the facilities were restricted Which was a little disappointing

Review 107:It was a fair walk to our room and as I have a problem with stairs I found the going from one level to another a bit difficult. I was aware that the hotel did not have a lift though.

Review 108:Welcoming friendly staff. Hotel clean. Room very quite considering we were so near the main road.

Review 109:Down for breakfast Sunday morning, 9.30. No juice, only cold plates, no eggs or mushrooms. Order of scrambled eggs almost thrown on plate. Breakfast staff very rude and unhelpful

Review 110:Room was very nice and comfortable for three adults

Review 111:Waitresses were rude and unhelpful - full range of breakfast items were unavailable - the food that was available was luke warm :( Asked to leave 10 mins before official end of breakfast in order that they could get ready for lunch - NOT IMPRESSED!

Review 112:Everything was fine spoilt only by the breakfast experience.

Review 113:Instant coffee at breakfast, although filter was produced on request. Bit tired surroundings.

Review 114:Staff v friendly, bedroom great and cot provided, v comfy bed. Good music playlist over breakfast (luke sital-Singh, lana del Ray, the staves etc)

Review 115:Suprise suprise we arrived at around 12.35 only to be told the room wasnot ready, even though the other lady said that I would be able to getchanged somewhere. In the end the reception called house keeping and tofind our room was in fact already ready. All that fuss for nothing, andthe extra stress for me after a 6 hour drive there.

Review 116:My sister was getting married 30th May, I booked this hotel weeksbefore, and was made aware that the check in time was 2pm, the same timeas the wedding. The lady I spoke said this would not be a problem

Review 117:There was a sensor light by wardrobe and bathroom that kept flicking on and off whenever we walked anywhere near it, this was very annoying! The bed was rather too firm for our taste.

Review 118:Location very good for purposes of our stay, not far from Stockport rail station. Very clean and good size TV in room plus kettle with tea and coffee in room. The room was very quiet which was nice. Breakfast buffet was great! Good choice, great coffee. A great value stay for a one night trip for a family celebration.

Review 119:Bedroom was awful, cheap nasty old brown decor, tasteless furniture and fittings and definitely not worth the money. Awful up lights in room and horrible bathroom.

Review 120:Goats cheese salad. Clean bathroom.

Review 121:To many stairs before we reached our room, on arrival staff not very pleasant,. very good service at breakfast but again staff could have been more pleasant.

Review 122:Breakfast, room cleanliness

Review 123:No lift. Was ok for us but anyone with mobilty issues could struggle.

Review 124:99% of staff were friendly and welcoming - a massive improvement on last stay as this was the other way round. Just one member of staff let you down this time. Despite a smile and a good morning from myself, the reply was a grunt and no eye contact made.

Review 125:No lifts.

Review 126:I liked the cleanliness and the fact that the rooms had plenty of light and most impressive was the power points near mirrors so you dont have to be a contortionist to dry and style hair.

Review 127:My only bad experience was that I couldnt find anything to moan about.

Review 128:Accommodation very good. Food very good. Staff very friendly and efficient. Organisation top class.

Review 129:Being told I couldn't sit in the window at breakfast because it was set up for lunch - not very welcoming when you first come into the dining area. Cooked breakfast dry in warmers and eggs hard. Bar prices quite expensive charged just under £2 for half a pint of soda water out of pump dispenser - thought that was a bit excessive. When checked out wasn't asked if we'd enjoyed our stay.

Review 130:Room and surroundings. Very pleasant reception staff on arrival. Friendly waiter at breakfast.

Review 131:Very noisy funeral party there on the night we stayed. We had to leave the bar due to the noise. Breakfast was a bit bland, we had to ask for tea etc as it was not offered

Review 132:Bed was super comfortable! Rooms were large. Plenty of parking outside. Reception staff are very nice

Review 133:Saturday breakfast like a bun fight. Cold toms, undercooked bacon two waitresses who could not keep buffet stocked which caused a q. Sunday different breakfast room with hot food and pleasant relaxed atmosphere. Wish they would cook the bacon properly but that's a personal choice.

Review 134:Friendly staff, clean room and very comfortable bed.

Review 135:A light in my room on a sensor. Would switch on every time it sensed me moving. Very green, but slightly irritating.

Review 136:Staff were very helpful and friendly.

Review 137:Room 28 suffered noise from air-con but this did stop later on. Walls may be a little thin, could hear TV or music from other guests.

Review 138:Friendly reception staff. Clean room, comfortable bed, lovely on suite.

Review 139:first single room very old fashioned. i had been told that there was a function on that night but that noise and disruption would be minimal. It was far from it ,the music was pounding from below. when I complained i was told that I could be moved but would be charged extra. I complained again at 11pm as I couldnt sleep, this time they moved me .2nd room was lovely.

Review 140:nice breakfast
