Reviews for YHA Bristol

Review 1:hot drinks not available before 8am. Not good if you have an early departure. Patchy wi-fi, dipped in and out

Review 2:Location Excellent, staff were helpful & friendly enough.

Review 3:you changed to new bed which has no pocket to lock up, that was really inconvenient. I miss old days bed with pocket.

Review 4:convenience! I just poped in to get sleep to be able to drive back to plymouth. And it was great for that purpose. I had very nice sleep between 18h to 1am. aaaarh. Thank you.

Review 5:Very poor noise isolation. You can hear people in other rooms and people talking normally in the streets, from the second floor. WiFi signal is poor, could not connect to the network at all.

Review 6:I would have like if breakfast is included and can have basic facilities like drinking water tap.

Review 7:It was not over crowded and I could check in 24hrs anytime of the day. Place was secure and easy to find. It was not at all stinking like some hostels do. Beds have distance from each other and rooms are big and spacious. Would like to use it again if get the same deal.

Review 8:My room was on 5th Floor and the lift was not working. Over to that room was built in attic space with window broken. It was cold whole night. I won't recommend it to anyone.

Review 9:Location and Staff.

Review 10:No power on the fourth floor. Could not have light or charge our phones which was a problem as many of us needed them for sat navs etc. Staff were very slow.

Review 11:Location Comfy beds

Review 12:Everything was great but there was no hot water in the shower of our room. We went to the shared shower outside of the room but the temperature fluctuated.

Review 13:Good location. Friendly staff. Comfortable room.

Review 14:Unfortunately the lift didn't work and we were on the fifth floor, but we did have warning of this before arriving.

Review 15:Very friendly staff, amazing location, very handy baggage storage, good food,

Review 16:Poorly designed showers that get everything else wet in the shower room. The lift is very slow, especially since it is the only way to move around the floors. Room 308 is very small & felt very cluttered with 4 of us in it, & since lots of other rooms were empty, it felt rather mean to put 4 in such a small room. Only 3 out of 4 power points worked in Room 308 with 4 of us in it needing to charge phones.

Review 17:The kitchen is large & spacious, with lots of cooking space & fridges. The kitchen was for the most part reasonably clean & tidy & dishes were clean. The kitchen had plenty of utensils, I found everything I needed.

Review 18:The room was very small and lacked a TV. Very basic. For the money breakfast could be included. I was positioned at the back of the Hostel overlooking a street - lots of noise from revelers and buses at night (24hour services).

Review 19:Clean and functional room. Central location near attractions and amenities.

Review 20:Outstanding location, good friendly atmosphere, Modern & well designed building, helpful staff, very clean, good breakfast facilities, excellent value for money.

Review 21:Breakfast buffet was underwhelming and some of the communal areas were a little tired looking. Some little extras such as shampoo/soap would be inexpensive to provide, but in £40 a night rooms would make the deal feel good value.

Review 22:Brilliant location and lovely cafe at reception. Nice view of water from our window, and I slept well on the comfortable bed.

Review 23:Window to a busy street, although roomates very considerate, I just couldn't sleep...can't really blame the hostel for that.

Review 24:Room very clean, staff 100% friendly and helpful.

Review 25:Would be nice to have a free car park. Had to use the NCP overnight which cost £21.

Review 26:Very pleasant and helpful staff. Rooms and facilities very clean. Location was brilliant.

Review 27:bed as im old first night i had no sleep as i could not climb it be great idea if when booking one was asked age then if possable allocate bottom bed

Review 28:breakfast was excelent

Review 29:It resembled, because it was,a building site, inside and out,NO bar,NO Lounge,NOowhere to relax or sit in peace and quiet. I should have been informed of this when booking!!

Review 30:Great position on the old quayside

Review 31:light doesn't work in room so i can't charge my camera/phone.

Review 32:- pretty big blanket compared to other hostels. - self catering - free bag storage service

Review 33:The site had building works which we weren't prewarned about, so many facilities weren't available. We paid £5.25 per head for breakfast which was cold, even though we were first to be served. Didn't get £5 deposit back for returning our key either.

Review 34:The staff were friendly and helpful. The family room was cosy, even though it was cold outside. Liked the duvets which are much nicer than hotel sheets.

Review 35:I made a written request for a bttm bunk due to a disability and was allocated a top bunk on arrival. Had to change rooms to get a bttm bunk but this meant accessing the room by stairs. Also site was undergoing refurbishment and caused disruption to the facilities available which was not highlighted on booking. The staff, although friendly, did not understand English fluently.

Review 36:quiet night and good sleep

Review 37:The services are not and we had booked for a dorm with an attached bathroom which we did not get also the room had a broken light

Review 38:The staff are nice and friendly

Review 39:Street noise most of night with window shut. Secondary glazing needed badly! No signage on street to temporary entrance!

Review 40:Great location. Peaceful and quiet inside the building. Helpful and friendly staff. Comfy beds. Cleanliness. Lovely showers etc.

Review 41:- I did not like the pipes making noises. I can only think it was the heating pipes. - the duvet was really thick for me.

Review 42:The experience one staying in a hostel was new. The environment was really nice.

Review 43:Maintenance is sadly lacking. Bedside lights not working, urinals leaking, toilets out of order.

Review 44:The location is excellent although it is very noisy at night whether your are at the front the or back.

Review 45:Shower drain was clogged (water would leak bathroom floor and then into room). Lack of wireless reception in the room. Hostel entrance was not clearly marked due to construction work.

Review 46:Friendly staff, clean bed sheets.

Review 47:I do t like sharing a room, however considering the place, everything was fine. There was only 1 person in a room designed for 4.

Review 48:The price was really good.

Review 49:Room was extremely basic, literally 2 bunk beds, nothing else.Have stayed in other hostels whose rooms are abit more inviting.Room felt like detention centre! They have signs either end of building telling you to use other door whilst building works are on..We were walking from one end to the other with all our bags.Carpet in room needs replacing.

Review 50:Location,staff were lovely.Restaurant good.Good sofas and books around.

Review 51:Although in a great central location it was very noisy outside being opposite the bars etc. Hostel being refurbished so no chairs or cupboards in the room at all .

Review 52:Staff were very helpful. Good central location

Review 53:The showers are those that you have to keep pressing to get water, it is really annoying to try to shower. However, the bathrooms are really good (outside the rooms).

Review 54:The staff was really great and the hostel was very well located.

Review 55:parking an issue and the rooms were cold. The radiators wouldn't turn on. We slept with our socks and jumper on

Review 56:Excellent location, modern toilets and showers, comfortable lounge area with good wifi.

Review 57:I declined the breakfast as it looked dried and unappealing and a Weatherspoons breakfast is avalible for half the price 5 mins walk away

Review 58:Staff were excellent and very helpful

Review 59:No towel available. When asked to be provided, staff said there is a problem with towel supply and apologised without suggesting ways to get towel. I had a whole day of travel and had to go to work first thing in the morning hence having a shower that day was of priority. Unfortunately this place did not provide that basic neccesity. Shower room with malfunctioning light. Shower water turns cold after a while and not ideal as weather is now turning colder.

Review 60:Location reasonable.

Review 61:This hostel could be great but it's poorly run, cleaning is very poor - hoovering only many days apart, bathrooms skim cleaned, self catering kitchen is usually disgusting, maintenance ditto, care over late entrants and late noise makers all but non-existent, little or no verbal instructions about cleaning up the self-catering kitchen etc. I gather it's due for a refurb. Perhaps YHA could do a refurb of managers here (some fundamental training!) and if needed increase the cleaning/ maintenance budget. I stay all over the country and this is the most complacent ill-run hostel I've stayed in. Sadly I need to stay regularly so this is an observation over years.

Review 62:It's location. Staff and visitors are great with anyone with extra needs.

Review 63:Funny shower but this is not so big deal since you can enjoy this funny experience.

Review 64:The located in front of beautiful river and just a few minutes from the temple meads station on foot.

Review 65:The only problem was that it was cold in the evening . we were on 5th floor . and there was no heating although my room booking said I had paid for a room with heating . I don't want to waste energy but I do think that it is reasonable to have a radiator on in the evening in mid October . That is why I didn't score the comfort or value for money higher.

Review 66:Location and informal friendliness and general comfort of the hostel facilities . Especially liked the waterfront café area.

Review 67:My roommates wake up really early around 5 in the morning. Maybe the next time, they could put people with similar age groups in a room if possible.

Review 68:The location is really good and convenient. The bed is comfortable too.

Review 69:Would have preferred a single room, but that would be too much of a luxury - can't afford it, anyway.

Review 70:I like sleeping near to open water - it has such a calming effect!

Review 71:The after-party at 5am in the room nextdoor!

Review 72:The YHA is situated right on the Harbourside, easy to find and in a convenient location. The facilities are good and staff is friendly and extremely helpful. Being on the Harbourside, the street can get a bit noisy at night but that it is to be expected.

Review 73:It was a bit noisy, the lift broke down so we had to lug everything up and down five flights of stairs and (niggly point here!) the hooks in the showers dump your clothes on the wet floor.

Review 74:Friendly staff, fantastic waterfront location.

Review 75:I walked past it 3 times, as it had a different name on the door.

Review 76:It was well sign posted with good directions in town how to get there. It was clean and looked really smart, I was surprised as its better than most hotels I've stayed in before. I would definitely stay there again, it was safe, quiet and I enjoyed staying there.

Review 77:Shower had nowhere to hang clothes without getting soaked so had to leave them out side door, lockers in room were a bit confusing, need a second toilet downstairs for the cafe/ bar area!

Review 78:Excellent location, was able to leave luggage, bar/cafe on site so was handy as a solo traveller for meeting in with other people to chat. relaxed atmosphere.

Review 79:A bit of noise from the nearby bars

Review 80:Central location by the quays, pedestrianized area, lots of restaurants and transport links in the area, as well as key city center sites.

Review 81:too pricey for what you get! paying £30 pound per night for a bunk bed in hostel is a little bit too much.

Review 82:staff really nice. especially the Italian host!

Review 83:Could not get the internet connect on the fourth floor, which I suppose is to be expected but would have been nice to have.

Review 84:The location was perfect from me attending my next day meeting.

Review 85:We booked an en-suite room and when we got there, there was a sign saying it wasn't working. I have read several people's reviews saying they had the same problem so I guess they just don't bother to fix it. We complained and they didn't offer to fix it and refused to change our room (we knew for sure there were going to be rooms available the following day). They offered us free breakfast instead, but not for the three nights that we were going to be toiletless, but just for the first day. After complaining again we got free breakfast for an extra day.

Review 86:The location was great

Review 87:The staff couldn't find our reservation initially. And the lift wasn't working which wasn't great as we had luggage and were on the 5th floor.

Review 88:Value for money and location

Review 89:Even late checkout is only 12, which means if we wanted a shower after running we had to pay a non residents charge!

Review 90:Great location for running Bristol half marathon

Review 91:There is one small lift that broke down during our stay (one of my party is not good at walking stairs, & we were on the 4th floor). Fire doors to stairs close LOUDLY and we were woken by a sustained cannonade early in the morning. The safety light in the room includes a green diode brighter than many a nightlight, which cannot be switched off. Bathrooms were insufficient for the number of people, & one shower did not drain away well. To cap it all, the breakfast which is heavily advertised using attractive graphics of sunny-side-up eggs actually offers very tired scrambled egg.

Review 92:Great location for a city break. The staff were courteous and helpful, obviously sympathising with the problems we were encountering in the property.

Review 93:The super slow lift (elevator) -- Only one lift for 4 floors of accommodation, and FIRE DANGER = there was no accessible stairway as an alternative to the lift. Stairway doors were locked.

Review 94:The location -- waterfront, across from cafes, restaurants, cinema, clubs, theatres.

Review 95:I'm 57 and could afford more expensive places so what I say isn't so relevant. It's a noisy environment with people banging doors in the corridors. staying in a room with strangers is easier when young. Strange noises and smells and the oh so different needs so 4 in the room went to bed before me!!! But one came in at midnight and woke us all up then I left really early but tried hard to be quiet. It's probably not for me anymore but the Bristol location is fabulous. I would have liked soap in the dispensers in the loos. Not providing it presents health issues to others not to those who won't bother washing properly. Anyhow if you are young and want to see Bristol it's an amazing base.

Review 96:Location and staff very good

Review 97:That old matresses were stored outside my room, and when pointing out the fire hazard to straff nothing was done about it. All against före/safety regulations.

Review 98:Location and character of old building

Review 99:We were in room 507 where this is a large pipe which made an awful noise and seemed programmed to start up at 03.40 am which woke me up each morning before the seagulls. The connecting door between the 4th and 5th floor needs something fitted to stop it slamming which also frequently woke me up. Hideous lift access from reception to cycle store and left luggage areas which wasted us a lot of time going up and down and round and round and the need constantly to use the key card.

Review 100:Wi-fi signal is not strong from certain rooms :( but anywhere else, especially in public areas, had strong connection!

Review 101:Very good value for money, good location!

Review 102:It was quite expensive for a youth hostel (168 EUR for a quadruple room for one night) and the wifi did not reach to our room.

Review 103:It was clean, located in the centre of the city and the staff was friendly.

Review 104:The only downside is the lack of stairs. Effectively, only a lift is available which sometimes means you need to wait a bit.

Review 105:Absolutely fabulous location - easily beats 5-star hotels in this respect, very friendly Staff.

Review 106:Not much i didn't like, going home as i would like to investigate Bristol some more, but this isn't the venues fault!

Review 107:Location is superb and for the money the place is good, with comfortable bed. Bristol is busy so can be noisy, especially here on the Quayside. This however is not the fault of the hostel, hence me not putting this comment of things i didn't like> Staff friendly and the ones that i spoke to were particularly easy on the eyes

Review 108:Not a great place if you're travelling alone and you want to meet people, the atmosphere is quite impersonal. The floor of our dorm was a bit dirty (it hadn't been vacuumed before we arrived).

Review 109:The location couldn't be better. There was a bathroom and toilets in our dorm of 4 people.

Review 110:I had made an initial reservation for two nights after which I had a change of plans and informed them a few days in advance through booking.com that I was only going to arrive on the second night. When I arrived I was told my booking had been cancelled and was asked to pay again, I had little choice at that point but would never go back again.

Review 111:Nothing

Review 112:Noise from other hostel visitors, beds and pillows not comfortable, showers with broken parts, locks,no way of keeping clothes dry.

Review 113:Location, nice loft room, quiet TV area.

Review 114:Paid for en-suite room but toilet flush was not working. Staff seemed un-concerned and only belatedly apologised. Very noisy party in same corridor which continued all night. No apparent enforcement of noise rules

Review 115:Location. Breakfast.

Review 116:The wifi is weak and be prepared for noise. I wore ear plugs and it was fine.

Review 117:Amazing location with a view of the river. Fantastic all round for the price.

Review 118:They mixed up my booking so I spent a night in the wrong sex dorm and when I complained I was told it was my fault for not informing them of the mistake.

Review 119:The hostel needs more regular maintenance. The lights don't work properly; the lift is always breaking down

Review 120:Wonderful location, friendly staff and good facilities

Review 121:sharing a bathroom with the floor, a bit untidy but expected this, but hotel clearly gives you the option,

Review 122:the location was brilliant, the building was great, rooms were clean.

Review 123:A little bit more info on where to park and cost of overnight charges would have been useful. I say this in the full knowledge that Youth Hostels traditionally cater for back packers and cyclists; and Bristol is one of the cleanest, greenest towns in the country!

Review 124:Friendly, helpful staff. Comfortable public areas.

Review 125:Very busy when I was there, got the impression it's like that quite often so except to be sharing with a full room. Was also very stuffy. Is what it is. Breakfast not great.

Review 126:Location is quite good albeit quite loud as you would expect from the centre of a major city. Nice and clean, very fresh interior.

Review 127:5th floor room, lift only reached 4th floor which was a bit of a problem due to the amount of luggage we had (travelling to Glastonbury)

Review 128:Great location at a great price.

Review 129:We came home at around midnight to sleep but after 2 hours were woken up by what sounded like a large party of men. They sounded like they were running up and down the stairs and jumping on them,They were shouting loudly to each other and were slamming the doors loudly. The noise continued well into the early hours when it became light at which point it gradually stopped.

Review 130:The staff were great...really friendly and helpful and consequently very apologetic on behalf of a really awful stag party that kept us awake all night.

Review 131:Wifi only works near the source, not very well on second floor and not at all on the 4 th.

Review 132:Three beds ensuite and common kitchen with fridge. Very close to the Watershed Cinema, restaurants, the M Shed (museum), and River

Review 133:Its clean but the lack of those little things like dry spaces/hooks in the showers and shelves next to upper bunks are a pity and so easy to fix if there was just that bit of thought.

Review 134:Location right on the fun of the quay with lots of nightlife but that makes it VERY VERY noisy at night. Walking distance to train station. The cafe is a really comfy place with good pastries.

Review 135:Not a bad experience but would have appreciated a better quality pillow [very uncomfortable] and did not see the need for central heating in June.

Review 136:Got what I wanted and expected.

Review 137:i had very heavy luggages and nobody helped me to put them in the taxi or open the door . No internet connection in the room.

Review 138:Quite clean , the price, nice kitchen

Review 139:We would have loved an extra hour or 2 later for check out time but I guess perhaps 10am may be an average time.

Review 140:Location was excellent and the rooms were good for a brief night or two's stay

Review 141:This time Wi-Fi wasn't working properly in our room on third floor, most of the time we only had perfect connection in the lounge area at the reception. But it wasn't big deal since we were out most of the days. Breakfast wasn't too good, so next day we bought our food and used kitchen.

Review 142:It was my second stay in this hostel, this time again during Temples Festival. I really like this place, it's in the city centre and you can meet a lot of other festival's attendees.

Review 143:No wifi in the room at level 5, not enough place to hang my cloths in shower room, there is a small hanger but it's too low and cloths get wet when I shower.

Review 144:Location, helpful staff.

Review 145:There was only 1 lift which took ages to get upto our room with lots of people saying

Review 146:It was close to everything and the rooms were comfortable. Great for a weekend away.
