Reviews for Britannia Hotel, Stockport
Review 1:The rooms are dated, and the room smelt of stale smoke. It was like a throwback to the 1980's, and I didn't feel comfortable with what looked like illegal immigrants staying there.
Review 2:wow! no tv remote!! is this the dark ages? 4 channels???????? very dated public areas, cluttered and untidy reception. scary lifts. lots of I presume DSS staying there wandering round. would of not paid more then £39.
Review 3:easy to find, and was cheap. room was nice and warm as was the water for a soak.
Review 4:The mattress was quite hard, wasn't too keen on the bed sheets etc but other than that the room wasn't too bad and I also got Wi-Fi in my bedroom. What I didn't like was the condensation on the windows in the lobby and countless people using their laptops, I am assuming its cos they didn't have any Wi-Fi in their bedrooms. Think its overpriced for what you pay x
Review 5:The food was good and some staff were very friendly.
Review 6:Lots of immigrant / asylum seekers hanging around and in the entrance smoking. Our room was freshly decorated but there was a distinct smell of cigarette smoke. Ok for one night.
Review 7:Low cost and bedroom was nice (bathroom dated but clean). Location suited us. Ideal for one night.
Review 8:We were asked not to provide our own snacks/drinks however bar prices were high, and not available throughout convention.
Review 9:Attended convention, friendly staff, enjoyed the trip, rooms were equipped with sufficient tables, (and extra chairs were available).
Review 10:We had booked an "executive suite" & the room couldnt have been worse. It was slightly bigger than a box room with a double bed squashed in. The bathroom was tiny, you wouldnt swing a cat in either the bathroom or the bedroom. The receptionist was in no way polite & proceeded to discuss another colleagues bad dress sence & how she was given her last uniform warning or she'd be shown the door! How unprofessional!! The resteraunt was closed, bar food was served which was muck. There was no room service but we could collect our own food & bring it to the room with us if we wished. There was nowhere in the surrounding area either to get food. There was maintainance work being carried out from 6am in the morning. Check out was for 11 & reception were phoning our room from 10 30 to get us out. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. It stank, it was in a terrible area, the staff were ignorant& untrained& the atmosphere there was terrible. Dont get me started on the music coming from the gym! Do not stay here folks. Truly horrendous!
Review 11:We didnt like anything about this place. If we had to dig deep we'd say the bed was comfy but thats it!
Review 12:Our view was of an immediate brick wall .... Not sure why they bothered putting a window in as we were really warm but the window did not open and there was no fan etc , the shower soap stink of something I cannot even describe it was a cheap deal however I have spent less at other hotels and found myself in a room with better conditions
Review 13:Bedding was clean
Review 14:There is no fire alarm for the deaf guest Not enough milk for a big mug No biscuits No shampoo/bath No heating on - I had to put it on as it was freezing!! No Bedroom TV Subtitles
Review 15:The food was excellent There is TV subtitles in the bar area which I had to sit there all night which was felt unsettled as I would have like to sit in the bedroom :-( There is no fire alarm for the deaf guest Not enough milk for a big mug No biscuits No shampoo/bath No heating on - I had to put it on as it was freezing!! No Bedroom TV Subtitles
Review 16:Bed way too small for 2 adults No tv remote in the room Curtains far too short for the window Could hear people talking and snoring through paper thin walls
Review 17:Bed sheets were clean enough
Review 18:Room was dirty especially kettle and plugs had to clean them myself.
Review 19:Friendly staff gym and pool on site although I didn't find pool or use facilities
Review 20:lack of disabled bathroom facilities very dated decor cramped rooms being overwhelmed in the public spaces in the evening and at breakfast by the guests at a private function the web site photos were not an accurate reflection
Review 21:friendly helpful reception staff very hot water , good shower in my room, not my mothers designated disabled room
Review 22:We spotted this hotel with great reviews and decided to give this ago. When we arrived we weren't explained our check out time, I had to ask on the 2nd night, he didnt go through the facilities or breakfast and dinner options. Just felt non of the staff wanted to be there. Before we booked the hotel it seemed on the website there were gym and pool facilities but when we arrived to the hotel it wasnt included and felt this was very misleading we were both disappointed. If this was stated clearly and knew gym and pool had additional charges we wouldn't have chosen this accommodation. The heating didn't seem to work properly and the room was very cold. Towels had stains but as it was our last day we didn't mention anything. We couldn't wait to leave the hotel and therefore we will not recommend this to anyone nor will we come back.
Review 23:Our room was at the end and it was on the ground floor.
Review 24:The other guests. A hotel with that normal reputation, an I felt like I was in Seria.
Review 25:Great place. Stayed before but full of immigrants. Seems like a holding place for them. Staff were brilliant. Just weird that some council houses them there at tax payers cost.
Review 26:Smallness of room and old feel to the room could have been updated
Review 27:The rooms were small and out dated but very warm and after 3 nights did feel at home and didn't want to leave
Review 28:Only stopped one night but no food was on offer around tea time so asked about any pubs nearby Windows where all cracked but did a good meal but had to watch our backs.
Review 29:Politeness of staff and location for Manchester airport
Review 30:No hot water in the morning for shower. Entrance to the on site leisure club is not included and is an additional fee, lockers can only be locked if you purchase a padlock. Breakfast buffet minimal.
Review 31:Reception staff friendly and helpful.
Review 32:hotel being used to accommodate many immigrants, I felt that we should have been made aware of this at the time of booking.
Review 33:We regularly use Britannia hotels as they are often in historic buildings, clean and simple hotels. Good breakfast.
Review 34:Everything else it was dirty and the knobs had come off all the drawers so couldn't use them chair was stained and there was a plastic bag covering the smoke alarm would include the picture of the smoke alarm but won't let me
Review 35:The reception area and the bed
Review 36:Poor quality room decor and furnishings. Carpet not hoovered. Hairs on bath and sink. Water already standing in kettle. Poor view from window which could not be opened for fresh air. Distinct smell of weed on the landing!
Review 37:Located close to the venue I was attending. Bed clean and comfortable.
Review 38:Breakfast bland Chair in room rickety minor repairs needed in bathroom Noise at night from fans or boilers near room
Review 39:The staff the plentiful hot water
Review 40:The beds were like sleeping on a slab of concrete, the most uncomfortable I have ever slept on. Also the food was ok but not great.
Review 41:I liked the spa some of the staff and the fact that it was clean
Review 42:There was an awful smell in our room and a leak coming through the ceiling in the corridor. Our TV didn't have a signal and the staff failed to fix it (they did at least try) or replace it and we didn't have a kettle in our room.
Review 43:On the plus side, the buffet style cooked breakfast was very nice.
Review 44:1. Head board on bed not fixed. 2. Side of bath not fixed to bath and hole in wall. 3. No food available at lunch time had to go to shop across road.
Review 45:Water dripping from light fittings, mouldy basket of rocks as decoration, dirty carpet, no food available (at 8:30, in a hotel!), barmaid not allowed to give change so we can eat from the vending machine. Dad got given a room that already had a guest in, the reception is an endless stream of complainers and some of the 'guests' were not allowed their keys until their 'officer' turned up to vouch for them. An absolute disgrace of a place. Shut it tomorrow, but give Matthew a job somewhere, he deserves it. Totally ruined stay.
Review 46:Mathew on reception.
Review 47:I didn't like having to wait quite a while on arrival. In fact the queue grew while we were waiting. I eventually went behind the desk & knock on the office door to gets staff attention. No apologies were given for us having to wait. No hot water to the bath/shower. Again no apology from staff. A bell on the desk would be helpful to attract the attention of staff when unattended.
Review 48:The room was in need of decoration peeling wallpaper no plug in thebathroom not clean at all. Full of asylum seekers who hang about thecorridoors and intimidate guests
Review 49:We stayed in room 67 and we hardly slept coz of someone above us was banging and walking around all the time i would like to stay again but not in that room
Review 50:The staff very polite and the food I had and my partner had love it
Review 51:The thinnest pillows I've come across and a car park that will be a perfect skating rink in a couple of months.
Review 52:Spotlessly clean throughout the room, warm and welcoming on a cold November night.
Review 53:Very poor unhelpful staff while trying to book a room. Room was uncomfortable and the bathroom was dirty. Worst hotel I have stayed in anywhere in the world.
Review 54:Nothing.
Review 55:The evening meal was about 5 out of ten. Breakfast was 3 out of ten. Everything was dried out and when I asked the waitress for soft eggs, the eggs in the tray had gone rubbery I was told the chef was busy. Really. at 9 Pounds odd for a breakfast. The room had a nice view of the garages.
Review 56:Very outdated television, no comfortable chair to sit on in the room Poor security door locks
Review 57:Comfortable bed, good shower Good heating & hot water
Review 58:Overpriced slum. Refugee housed in hotel, homeless outside. Scared to park car in carpark. More like a hostel than hotel. Avoid like the plague, no exaggeration!
Review 59:The location was close to a wedding venue.
Review 60:The rooms need updating and the walls are thin so we could hear the people around us - particularly on the floor above.
Review 61:The location was good for us and the staff were friendly and helpful. The area was quiet and the rooms were well equiped.
Review 62:The room was supposed to be a double one and it was actually a three quarter bed in a single space. Consequently there was only one bedside cabinet? The room was always too warm even with the window open. We couldn't find a socket for the kettle and had to ask the cleaner, she was extremely helpful and got us an extension which had to be placed into the only socket in the room, not very safe!
Review 63:Easy to getting into town centre, bus runs every 15 minutes.
Review 64:the quality of the restaurant and bar food was not great. I will not be staying here again.
Review 65:the accommodation was booked purely due to its location to where I needed to be
Review 66:Decor needs updating. Loose floor board in bedroom. Doorlock worn and difficult to open until shown by maintenance guy, no guidance from reception.
Review 67:Easy access to bus services. Good car park.
Review 68:Didn't do food at time stated on card in room Room too hot, could not open window Ground floor room so windows where locked, Breakfast was cold, even though it was under heat lamps
Review 69:Location not bad
Review 70:The pictures on the website is very misleading and nothing like the actual thing. Room was way too hot because radiator was on full blast, towel in bathroom had a mark, puddle behind toilet. Had to heat up the kettle on my bed as lack of plug. Nothing against refugees but some were staying there and was very noisy In the corridor early hours of the morning. Wifi was very weak and kept shutting off. Bathroom need updating badly
Review 71:The staff at the breakfast room was very friendly and breakfast was lovely
Review 72:Nasty place do not go there they will not help u at all service is Vile and the place is disgustingly dirty and they do not clean the rooms
Review 73:Nothing I've asked for my money back they refused and have stop reply to my msg
Review 74:I stayed 5 nights. One of those nights there was no heating in the room at all. The corridor smelt of damp and this lingered in my room. On another night there was, again, no heating in the room. Only by complaining did they put it on but I had to wait a full one hour and having to complain again before they put the heating on. I would not recommend this hotel for business people or anybody who wants warmth in their room on a November night.
Review 75:Hotel appeared to be a homeless shelter according to the clientele that were lounging about the corridors. I felt unsafe and would never return to this hotel, broken mismatched furniture in the room, uneven bathroom floor, lights not working, shocking.
Review 76:Not very much from the outside it looked lovely, but this turned out to be a facade.
Review 77:Ment to be a spa Hotel? to use the pool etc was extra payment & also had to pay to rent towels & buy a padlock for locker. The Spa is run by a separate company within the Hotel.
Review 78:Nice old Hotel.
Review 79:The floor carpeting was absolutely disgusting. Too many late night wandering people. No food available, unless you paid and ate at buffet. Back lane noise at all hours.
Review 80:Dinner was a less than mediocre buffet. There seemed to be a lot of young people lurking in the corridors. Some of the room decor was badly in need of refreshment. My rather ancient telly didn't seem to have a remote control any more.
Review 81:A massive off street car park.
Review 82:The staff are rude, the rooms are dirty , the shower mixing taps don't work. The hotel smells, it has asylum seekers hanging around all the time, and finally they charge 50p to use a debit card. Tha worst hotel on the planet.
Review 83:Leaving
Review 84:The room was like a sauna, the window was nailed shut so if there had been a fire in the hall we would've burnt to death. Worst hotel exp I've had.
Review 85:Nothing!
Review 86:Did not think it was good value for money. Having checked in, they took the full cost of my stay, which reception said was normal, ( never done this before ) I was unable to charge drinks or food to my room, because I had already paid, very strange !!!
Review 87:Location was OK for my trip
Review 88:Was worst place I've ever stayed in I never give rubbish feed back but it was the worst room ever .The wall paper was falling off the wall and wardrobe was at least 80 years old terrible place not even good enough just for bed to sleep in
Review 89:Nothing
Review 90:Dirty rooms, shower stone cold, dirty cutlery, paid for a executive room and was given a family room, carpet on its last legs, stains everywhere.
Review 91:Parking
Review 92:The room on both nights had a constant dripping sound from the room above it sounded like the shower was leaking or some thing. The bed was uncomfortable and only had one pillow
Review 93:the food was awful, the hotel was over run with foreign people, the toilet seat wasnt on properly, there was hairs on the bath, the tea/coffee was absent, the floorboards above were so loud.
Review 94:The hotel is very tired and worn. In need of extensive regeneration. Customers who require to smoke should do so at the back of the building and nowhere near the front door. Not somewhere I'd stay for a week but ok for a night or two.
Review 95:The room was "fine". No better, no worse. Clean comfy bed with tea making facilities. An adequate toilet and bathroom. Clean towels. All that was required for an overnight stop. Seemed very busy on the night we stayed. We did not eat in the restaurant but it was very busy. Nowhere near as bad as some of the reviews make out.
Review 96:The cleanliness of the bathroom was very poor and the room could do with a complete redecorating. The place is being used as a dumping ground for imigrants who abuse the no smoking system and sit all day on the stairs and congregate in front of the hotel doors getting in everybodys way. All in all I would not reccomend this hotel and would warn others to steer clear.
Review 97:The staff were friendly and helpfull
Review 98:The room was too hot to sleep in, radiator could not be turned off and window was wide open. Also room was above sauna! Toilet dangerous to sit on as it was coming off the wall. Wallpaper peeling off the wall. Bed was hard! TV had 3 channels. Kettle had bits in it and no milk was kept in the room. Room fittings were either loose, missing or about to come off. The room smelled as well. If that was not enough, sleep was impossible due to the heat and the sound of the ventilation fans running outside my window. For the 2 day stay, I also had a load of toilet rolls and mouldy towels outside the door to my room.I would of complained however I fear that they would of offered a free meal would of gave me extra reason to complain!!!! Even the cleaners had nothing good to say about it. Hotel over ran with what seemed immigrants which gave the hotel an uneasy feeling and I was staying on my own. Highlight of the stay was getting a knock at 2230 to a woman at the door ready to deport me!!!! Worse hotel that I have ever stayed in bearing in mind that I have been to ones used for Stag Dos in Blackpool.
Review 99:Nothing at all
Review 100:Hotel worn out, dirty, thread bare, furniture past its best. Three course menu dried up, not enough and tasteless!!
Review 101:The staff tried to accommodate me when the first room was terrible, second room occupied and third room below average!
Review 102:Heat and noise from air can or extraction fans
Review 103:Superb location, super staff, it's just a bit old and not well insulated and even though the heating was off the rooms were roasting with rising heat and then a mad fan running outside my window as I had to open it to cool down. All said it's great value, a great location and stay there
Review 104:smelly room was musky also bathroom was mouldy and bedsheets had wine stain on them we had a carvery in the resturant which was not very good at all overall not a very good place to stay
Review 105:cheap
Review 106:The bedroom and the bathroom are in need of decorating, bathroom particularly needs new flooring. Room was over warm athough radiator was not on.
Review 107:Helpfulness of staff was good. Breakfast was good. Bed was very comfortable.
Review 108:Dark room - badly in need of re-furb - damp bathroom to the extent of the bottom of the door frame was missing through damp rot. TV wouldn't tune in to any channel.
Review 109:Room 61 avoid like the plaque! Window was nailed shut room was like a sauna didn't sleep a wink even with a fan I got from reception awful will not stay again!
Review 110:The mature lady that was cleaning the reception area the next morning was very helpful unlike the young man on reception he was useless!
Review 111:Not being informed at the time we booked that we could opt for lesser meal prices. We booked from the U.S. and only saw the sign whilst checking in, but by then the offer not available.
Review 112:The staff was very pleasant and did their best to make your stay a pleasant one.
Review 113:Hotel is past its Prime. My room was ok but I have had better for the same money.
Review 114:Friendly staff and a decent location for the north west gaming centre.
Review 115:Felt very very uncomfortable with the numbers of men sat in the corridors, on the stairs and in the entrance/exit to the building . . . I would NOT recommend this hotel to single women, it's very intimidating
Review 116:Staff and room good
Review 117:The room was really outdated and in need of decorating. The bed was hard and only had one pillow. Had poor nights sleep
Review 118:Close access to drive to Manchester airport
Review 119:My husband stayed on fri nite but the bar closed and even residents couldnt get a drink !breakfast wasnt the best either
Review 120:We attended a wedding so was great that it was all held in the hotel and we could go to bed without having to travel home !
Review 121:Room was awful, small, old, dated, smelt of stale smoke. Bed uncomfortable had a bad neck since, shower head broken, fizzed out rather than poured. I'm 5ft7 and had to bend down to get my head wet. Graffiti on back of the door. Kettle hadnt been checked as still had old water in it. Glasses provided were mucky. Can get much better rooms at premier in.
Review 122:The reception they are not welcoming people in a good manner.
Review 123:I like it the room it was clean and big with everything needs and also the breakfast was an excellent.
Review 124:Grubby hotel in need of a facelift, staff very young and inexperienced, bar very expensive.
Review 125:Puss in Boots round the corner, lovely food, friendly welcoming staff, waited on hand and foot, brilliant.
Review 126:How there wasn't much coffees, sugars, teabags and also milk! I don't think the shower gel facilities were that great.
Review 127:I like how all the staff were very polite and friendly!
Review 128:Two small nails (possibly large Panel Pins) sticking approx 1 cm out of loose beading to the side of the bed, definite health and safety issue. No bedboard. Pillows against the wall with wall mounted light switch protruding
Review 129:Location was convenient
Review 130:The room was very poor. There was wallpaper coming away from the wall & there was a lot of damp marks as if there had been a leak at some point. Even the carpet in corridor was water stained. Whilst eating my evening meal in the restaurant other guests thought it ok to start piling their empty plates on my table as the staff were too busy to clear them. I personally feel the price I paid for the standard of the hotel was far too high!
Review 131:The room was a bit cramped and also too hot for my liking. There wassome form of air conditioning unit mounted on the wall but this was verynoisey. The television was from the ark (ols tube type!!); I'dforgotten just how bad the picture was.
Review 132:The staff were friendly and I was upgraded from a single to double room. The gym facilities looked quite good but I didn't use them.Gatecrashed the wedding reception and had fun.
Review 133:Too many leaders, not very easy when you are carrying or rolling a big luggage. The lift is very tiny. I didn't get an in-time response for my airport pick-up request. I had to book a taxi by myself
Review 134:Bar opening times
Review 135:Don't get me wrong your not going to take your wife for romantic weekend away but I can't believe how bad some of the reviews were. It's cheap for a reason but it's definitely clean and more than acceptable for how much they charge. I would personally stay again.
Review 136:Turned up - people hanging round rear carpark so parked on main road Charged an extra £10 for early checkin - fair enough Walked to room - staff eating their lunch in hallway sat on stairs Room - bathroom - broken taps - hair (not mine) in bath ! Stayed until around 5.30 - checked out and booked in elsewhere - never again ! Expensive trip to Manchester for me but prepared to pay extra to stay somewhere else
Review 137:Hmmmmm ! Difficult question
