Reviews for Chatsworth Hotel
Review 1:Sadly, major building works going on the 1st floor, interrupted our afternoon snooze, but sure the works will be worth it.
Review 2:Bruno was a star, allowed us to view 3 rooms and pick which one we liked, very helpful. Great location, very central on the prom. Grand old building, in process of being renovated and greatly improved, fingers crossed.
Review 3:Having to leave.
Review 4:Room is a perfect size, staff polite and efficient , Breakfasts freshly cooked and tasty, optional evening meal ,excellent choice and value.
Review 5:beef wellington soggy pastry because no crepe between meat and puff as is standard. (Ex Savoy chef with 45 years experience and many year as Cunarder... always gonna be dissatisfied )
Review 6:cheerful staff ok stay. could be better
Review 7:Wifi was not avaliable in the bedroom but in hotel lounge area only
Review 8:Very friendly staff, quick & easy checking in Bedrooms were very clean and nicely furnished Breakfast was excellent with plenty of choice Parking was accessible nearby but limited spaces.
Review 9:My partner arrived later at the hotel and received very bad service from staff on the desk. My partner was wearing tracksuit bottoms and a coat having just finished work and felt like he was treated very bad due to his attire.
Review 10:Location, room only on first floor so didn't have to struggle up lots of stairs.
Review 11:Had to wait quite some time on arrival at reception for someone to appear. Booked a double room but it was twin. Asked for double but told they were all taken but that the housekeeper would come to make up a double. Nobody appeared. Poor decor /furniture in room.
Review 12:Breakfast was excellent
Review 13:Room was very small but had everything we needed. This didn't spoil our stay as we were only staying at the hotel overnight. We were not advised upon booking, that the hotel offer free parking vouchers.
Review 14:Location, reception with old metal fronted lift. Didn't eat at the hotel so can't comment. View from the room was stunning close to the pier. Bed was comfortable and the room was nice and warm. Parking literally round the corner was £3.00 from Saturday lunchtime to Monday morning.
Review 15:The room was basic, at best. We were unable to use the shower, being on the top floor there was no pressure. Also there was no drinking water in the room. (tank fed supply is not suitable for drinking)
Review 16:The food was good
Review 17:Cleanliness of the room was poor, there was lack of organisation around the staff, no attention to the detail speaking about the room.
Review 18:Location was great, staff was alright, but there was hardly anyone at the reception when we needed. Breakfast staff was great.
Review 19:If anything the facilities in the rooms need to be updated.
Review 20:Beautiful sea views. Friendly helpful staff. Well located. Comfortable & clean. Bountiful breakfast.Ideal for a weekend away.
Review 21:Bugs in the bed. Curtains swaying where the wind was coming through them. Bathroom was like an ice box
Review 22:Staff were pleasant and very helpful and a very nice looking reception area.
Review 23:we did ask for a sea view room when we got there was told all sea view rooms had been allocated radiator was stone cold and shower was Luke warm if you could get any pressure from it toilet handle was broken on cystem we didn't make any complaints
Review 24:Location parking
Review 25:The single room was dreary and was at the back. Noisy screetchy drilling going on during the day. Breakfast overpriced.
Review 26:The location of the hotel is great - our double had seaview - near the pier.
Review 27:None, all was superb.
Review 28:When we arrived we were made very welcome by the gentleman on reception. The hotel was nice and warm and very bright with an excellent seaside location. Free parking is available on street adjacent to the hotel or for 20p for 2 hours on the seafront. The rooms and bathrooms are a little dated, but there is a refurbishment starting. The bar had a really nice atmosphere and the breakfast was absolutely first class. Once the rooms are refurbished this will be a 10 out of 10 hotel. The staff were all very friendly and extremely well organised and trained. I would recommend this hotel to anyone staying in this area and we will definitely use again.
Review 29:This hotel has just been taken over by new management and Bruno the manager was very welcoming. he explained that they are currently refurbishing the rooms. They have the oldest lift in Eastbourne which was great fun if a bit rickety :) I wasn't feeling well I the morning so my husband asked if he could take scrambled eggs and juice to my room and they were very helpful. All of the staff were very helpful. The bar is very comfortable and feels quite grand. The only2 things I would say as a negative is that although the room was clean the wallpaper which is woodchip had obviously had a leak or damp in the past so had blown and just painted over which was a bit unsightly. Please get new pillows I struggled to sleep as they were so hard and flat. the bathroom was very clean and Like it had just been refurbed. .
Review 30:As above
Review 31:Extremely disappointed with the broom cupboard that was a double room ensuite. Maybe the photo selection that is on your website should also include pictures of room 50.
Review 32:First room, located on the top floor, was very small with a tiny window. Not much of a view, but they moved us to a larger room the next morning. The building, although very charming still, could do with a little restoration here and there. This place has some quirky and very nice original features and it would be shame to see they disappear through lack of proper care. This building certainly deserves it.
Review 33:Rriendly and helpful staff. Very good location, right by the pier. Good breakfast. Building is full of charm and it has some delightful original features. A window into a glorious bygone era.
Review 34:The only problem I would mention is that there was no grab rail in the shower and my partner has a disability - osteoarthritis in his knees - so he did not feel safe using the shower.
Review 35:The hotel was reasonably clean and comfortable, the food was good and the staff excellent. We were given a side sea view room which was a nice surprise. We were made to feel very welcome.
Review 36:Bathroom was dirty and shower curtains were very dirty - yellow I would say. The phone hasn't been cleaned for a while. Facilities are old. Room is cleaned on a daily basis but quality is lacking.
Review 37:Very nice and friendly staff. The best asset of this hotel. Breakfast was very nice as well. The lady that served us twice has excellent customer service skills.
Review 38:Weak shower but have had worse in other hotels.
Review 39:The quietest hotel that we've stayed in..no banging doors, roudy people or noisy lift. A very relaxing atmosphere and lovely building. No problem parking. Would highly recommend.
Review 40:stay here 11/10/2015 arrived at the hotel 14.30 checked in and for £1 got a carpark space 50yrd from hotel...ok when booking I did request a bath as was my partners birthday so had bubbles for the bath... was top floor o dear not a good start no bath jst a small shower the room not big enough to swing a cat in and was a double..?? 2 windows nice view apart from the staring seagulls .went down to the lobby to speak find out where was our bath..?? the gentleman said all the bathrooms had been taken up by a coach party but could speak to the manager see what he could do for us ..?? spoke with e manager said it was my partners birthday and thats why we chose this hotel said give us 15 mins and il see what we could do for you . All I can say is the manager could not do enough for us gave us room 10 a twin room made up for a double front of hotel view perfect not to nosey either , big bathroom and a bath wow lets get the champagne open yer ..big massive and very combatable bed warm room as sun in on all day..had a few drink and a meal then bed by 11pm.woke up by 7.30 so up and ready for breakfast by 8.30 wow nice pot of tea then a full English for me lovely fresh orange juice cereal almost everything you could have for a breakfast .. staff lovely and friendly as well very welcoming ..checked out of room by 10.30ish all in all would I stay here again if I could get room 10 that's a big yes :).
Review 41:The immaculate dining room & efficient service was marred by poor food.described as mouthwatering beef was stringy & tough. Pathetic piece of Gammon, not well cooked. Warmed up roast potatoes.I am always surprised that a Hotel Kitchen can serve such poor food.
Review 42:c Comfortable pleasant surroundings
Review 43:The staff were all very friendly and extremely helpful at all times. The food was excellent. Breakfasts were brilliant. The chef cooked the poached eggs to perfection
Review 44:The hotel manager Bruno, his deputy whose name unfortunately escapes me, and all members of staff, were very helpful and welcoming. We were upgraded from a room with limited sea view to a very nice suite which gave us panoramic views - and sounds - of the sea.
Review 45:Not many dislikes, but the room was a little small. The breakfast was a little on the small side although you could go for second helpings of serial and fruit.
Review 46:Original Victorian building with loads of unique features, the dinning room in particularly is really nice. The location is great, it is right in the middle of the promenade, with only a 2 minute walk to the pier.
Review 47:Misleading information, booked room only wife and family booked in whileI was parking car given paper stating on bed & breakfast whenchecking out charged £9.90 each for breakfast. Would not go back
Review 48:Central location was good , close to bars and restaurants nice town
Review 49:Creaking floors, crackings on bottom walls. no freeview. Your wardrobes and bathroom need updating.
Review 50:Staff very polite, respectful, friendly. Best location. Great breakfast.
Review 51:insulation tape around the leaking shower, rolled up cardboard stopping the wardrobe from falling forward, hairs in the shower, flacked paint on the floor from the crumbling wall, peeling wallpaper, grotty paintwork, and a telly that loses signal.
Review 52:staff were polite
Review 53:No plug for basin. TV not working properly and the bedroom phone also not working. However the manager, made great amends for those problems, as listed. Nonetheless when I first arrived with a rather rude receptionist to greet me, I was reminded of another hotel, further west, in Torquay, I think!
Review 54:The manager was pleasant and helpful, after an initial mistake re my girlfriend coming on the Saturday night, so we decided to stay an extra night with a £10 reduction fee. The double room we had on Sunday night was v good and had a sea view. Also due to other errors he allowed me a free gratis meal on Saturday night, so all in all well done!
Review 55:Staff were excellant, especially Bruno and Steve. Had problem with booking, not the hotels fault, Bruno put himself out to rectify the problem and took care of us for the entire stay. Will definitely stay again, don't often receive that sort of service, was well impressed.
Review 56:The receptionist was very friendly & my husband & I & the other members of our party were checked in very quickly. As it was our 30th Wedding Anniversary, we were treated like VIP,s , we were given a round table by the window with good views & we also got complimentary Bottle of Red & White wine. The waiting staff were very attentive & the food was excellent with a good vegetarian option.
Review 57:I felt rushed at breakfast, there was not enough time to eat cereals and fruit before hot food came and instead of taking it back to kitchen when they could see we were not ready they left it on table to get cold
Review 58:The location was fantastic
Review 59:The room had cobwebs, and my husband found the shower a little on the small side.
Review 60:The staff were very friendly, the breakfast choice was excellent and tasted lovely. The lift was amazing - loved the upholstery! We loved the location, great for the beach and shops. Had a very enjoyable weekend
Review 61:Room was adequate, bathroom was very poor, akin to having a shower in a cupboard! No sink in the bathroom!!
Review 62:Location... staff were excellent, lovely food
Review 63:the size of the room is really big, we expect the twin room with 1 double bed, the room has 1 more extra bed, and a fantastic sea view, really impressed a lot
Review 64:the staff are all very efficient and friendly nothing is too much trouble. The building is interesting and the rooms are clean and comfortable. Excellent location close to the sea, the pier and town
Review 65:The hotel does need to be redecorated a little bit, the bed were far far to soft as well; every time we turned over it felt like we were going to fall out of the bed. Our shower was leaky when in use causing water to go everywhere
Review 66:The hotel is old so it's nice to see that it's character has remained intacted like the old elevator
Review 67:Evening Meal Oh dear, Oh dear! not anyway near the expectations described on the menu blurb- Highly trained chef's, Food cooked fresh, &. so on & so on. Therefor, great expectation of succulent Roast Beef and all the trimmings from the menu. However, what we received was a 'School Dinner' comprising of 2 round slices of thinly cut compressed Beef from a catering roll, & a .limited range of microwaved vegetables. We could not give full marks for comfort which it deserved to be because.............Hot Water was not HOT it was SCALDING!!!! Dangerously so if adjusting Shower or Bath.
Review 68:Staff were well trained, welcoming, attentive, clean and smart. Hotel was spacious and decorated to a high standard - Oh the Lift! - A Fantastic Ornate Original. Worth staying at the Hotel just to have a ride in it! However, there is a BUT......
Review 69:Hotel is in a perfect location with fantastic views of the sea and sea front. A room with a side view of the sea and a balcony made the stay perfect. Staff are especially friendly and helpful and rooms very clean, bed comfortable. To improve, a more powerful shower would be good and rooms could do with some updating, however, that would mean prices would have to go up and then you would not get to enjoy a fantastic hotel, in a perfect location, with great staff for a realistic price.
Review 70:Public areas of hotel e.g. bar, reception, restaurant were very nice however although large (with an unexpected sea view), our room was a little tired e.g mismatched furnishings and fittings, the general decoration was certainly showing its age
Review 71:Sea front location. Room with sea view. Very pleasant staff. Good cooked breakfast. Excellent value for money £58 for the night
Review 72:I have stayed here quite a few times. Good position on the seafront, and close to the town centre , shops, restaurants etc. Friendly staff. Clean and comfortable. I like the old fashioned lift !
Review 73:Pressure of my room shower was very low to compare with my house The room door was short leaving a big gap underneath The room was not hoovered for the 4days we stayed in
Review 74:My room was at Sea view, food was nice, parking was good and the parking fee, the service at the reception and dining (restaurant ) was very good.
Review 75:The bed could had been double instead of two singles together and the mushroons in the cooked breakfast came fron a tin and not fresh .
Review 76:Our room was amplious with beautifull views , very cleen and staff was extremely friendly .The old lift was fun !
Review 77:Bedroom and bathroom badly needed updating...corridors on 3rd floor very dated
Review 78:The staff were all very friendly..breakfast lovely and fresh...lobby area with great feature lift
Review 79:I wasn't a fan of the decor and the window in the bathroom was falling off its hinges but this didn't effect my stay really.
Review 80:Slept well, had a goof view and was about a 10 second walk to the beach. Friendly staff and good breakfast.
Review 81:Perfect. Unheard of. Thanks.
Review 82:Fantastic last minute bargain. Wecoming staff, very helpful. Comfortable bed, lovely view. Quiet, even with door open, that led onto the balcony. Perfect for me.
Review 83:There was nothing we didn't like.
Review 84:Staff friendly, nothing too much trouble always had a smile for everyone. Meals were brilliant. Will definitely be going back there
Review 85:It's one of those Victorian seafront hotels that really needs to be demolished and re-built - retaining the attractive facade if possible but installing comfortable and appropriate rooms. Our room was not great - the bathroom was so small that the sink was actually in the bedroom, next to the bed. The decoration had been there for about the last twenty years and the entertainment facilities (a TV with bad reception) could not distract from the depressing spirit of the place. It was also so hot that we would not have slept, were it not for the quantity of Belgian beer we had consumed at the excellent Belgian cafe, a few doors down. At breakfast the next morning there was no mention of the vegan arrangements, and the waitress did not appear to understand enough English for us to explain this so we just selected the vegan options from the English breakfast menu. The food was very poor, hash browns only partly cooked, toast scarcely browned, the cheapest baked beans in the universe and mushrooms which appear to have been boiled or something. I would find it hard to believe there are not better places in town.
Review 86:The hotel is well located on the seafront, close to the pier etc. The female receptionist when we arrived was very welcoming - we had requested vegan food and she had asked the chef about this. The lift is also very special - a true throw-back to the golden age of the hotel (i.e. about 100 years ago!).
Review 87:1) Staff acting unprofessional. Gave the key to a twin room when a double was booked and blamed the mistake on the previous staff shift. 2) After having checked into the room, reception phoned the room without request - INTRUSIVE. 3) Breakfast day 1 - took an order, wrote it down and forgotten to bring toast. 4) Breakfast day 2 - room order taken at reception. Reception did not advise on the cost of room service. 5) Breakfast day 2 - forgotten the toast again. 6) Reception phoned the room BEFORE the check-out time to "remind" the need to vacate the room by 11am. RUDE. UNPROFESSIONAL. 7) The bathroom window did not close at all, the lock jammed 8) Labels/notices were not provided for "Please do not disturb" and "Please clean my room" 9) No instructions/information leaflet in the room on essential phone numbers and any other T&C and services available. 10) The mirror light in the room flickered, had to keep it switched off.
Review 88:Big room. Comfortable bed. Good location.
Review 89:Shower not very good, slow to heat and unstable temperature. Bed very hard, not very comfortable.
Review 90:Staff were excellent, location hard to beat. Restaurant food and service as good as any .
Review 91:The hotel rooms could do with some revamping now. Also, I found the shower to be fairly poor - the water pressure was only just adequate.
Review 92:The best part about staying here was the friendliness of the staff. Also the historic lift was amazing! The location is superb - right on the seafront. The breakfast was very enjoyable.
Review 93:only moan was shower and bathroom a bit tight for space
Review 94:the staff were exelent the spoke nicely to us and could not do enough for us you should be very proud of them we will come back sometime in the new year thankyou
Review 95:The only bad experience was the shower in room 42 was not working properly...thermostat had gone -so water was too HOT to use. Reported this out to reception and the maintenance man went straight away to have a look. It seems the shower may possible need a new part as still running too hot.
Review 96:The staff are very perfessional and friendly. The staff in restaurant were very attentive and made it very special...we rated it 4* as food was good..nicely presented. Excellent customer service all round.
Review 97:Only downside was there was a streetlight right outside our window and therefore the room never got dark at night. Obviously not the hotels fault but did make it a bit difficult to get off to sleep/
Review 98:Beautiful building full of character, spotlessly clean, friendly staff, great location
Review 99:Very pleasant & helpful staff. Cheap parking permit for 24 hours have to ask hotel staff though we had already paid & displayed very comfortable enjoyed overnight stay. Defianatly reccomend
Review 100:The service was excellent and the staff were very helpful. The food was very good and there was plenty of it. The room was very comfortable and clean. I had a lovely weekend. I would highly recommend this hotel.
Review 101:Couldn't shower one morning, wasn't told they were doingmaintenance, the day after it was just a drizzle of water. The room wassmelly and dusty. For this price, I honestly expected more. In the otherroom we booked, the contractors left hot water running in the bathroom, when we came back after a walk, the room looked like a sauna and scaredthe hell out of us. Not a great experience.
Review 102:The kindness of some of the waiting staff
Review 103:Their staff made a mistake on the parking permit they issued for us (they forgot to write the hotel name on it). When we checked out, they promised to cover the ticket for us. But 2 days later, they send the ticket bill to us. They have no credibility. Do not trust them.
Review 104:The hot water took ages to come through and the water pressure in the shower was weak - we were on the 4th floor so maybe that had something to do with it?
Review 105:Excellent location, friendly, helpful staff, comfortable good sized room with tea & coffee making facility, the lift was great, breakfast was fantastic!
Review 106:The staff were utterly charming . My wife has a mobility problem and they were without exception very kind and helpful. We had dinner 2 of the nights and it was very good quality and well served We live in Eastbourne and were there because of alterations being done to our. We will certainly be recommending the Chatsworth to ant of our guests coming to the South Coast.
Review 107:Moved room as no mirror in bathroom so unable to shave. Moved straightaway to a twin room. One bed had a piece of hardboard under the mattress, no protectors on the pillows. Only biscuits on arrival. Shower water went off while soaped up only way would come on if turned tap on in the basin . Bathroom very small like a cupboard and room very hot.
Review 108:Staff in all areas friendly a efficient . Lucas in particular very good to residents and his staff. Anticipated guests needs and assisted. Newly taken over snd needs a lot spent on rooms, bathrooms etc. Well positioned for all areas.
Review 109:The "safety bathmat" was quite lethal. it did not fit in the bath very well and slipped around as you showered. I was glad that my husband who is disabled found it impossible to get into the bath.
Review 110:The friendliness and efficiency of the staff were second to none. Without exception they did everything they could to make our stay very enjoyable. We were very impressed with the efficiency of the lift which had obviously been there for many years - many modern lifts are regularly out of order!
Review 111:We asked for a room higher up in the hotel and was given a room in the roof unfortunately this meant we had a small bathroom with a small shower cubicle and very little water pressure from the shower. We had no TV aerial when we arrived and bed side lights not working. We reported these problems and they were rectified the next day.
Review 112:The staff were pleasant and helpful. Nice dining area where you could have a leisurely breakfast. Plenty of choice of food and cooked breakfast served nice and hot. Enjoyed outside seating area at the front of the hotel where you could sit and enjoy the sun and watch the world go by.
Review 113:Curtains need updating, needs blackout curtains if guests don't want too bright early morning.
Review 114:Sea view superb, size of the room excellent, breakfast and service very good, price really worth.,location the best.
Review 115:Would have been nice to have WiFi in room !! As made community rooms packed ! So hence no seating area free !!
Review 116:Staff very friendly ! And helpful ! Dinner at ! night very good and great presentation !
Review 117:I couldn't get WiFi in my room, although I was told it would connect. Nothing to complain about tho.
Review 118:Helpful & friendly staff. Lovely to have fridge in the room, I have stayed @ Chatsworth before, actually in same room but don't remember there being a fridge. I have stayed in other hotels in Eastbourne, I'll certainly stay at Chatsworth again.
Review 119:Upon arrival very unattentive staff. Lift not working. Small room. Terrible smell. Sloping ceiling in bathroom-you couldn't stand under shower. Water pressure low in shower. No wifi in room. Bed very uncomfortable. No air-con. Bar not managed-same person as on reception. Drink had to be returned. No Sky TV.
Review 120:Leaving
Review 121:had bad room first of all the room smelt musty and damp. it was dark as well. was moved to a sea view room fantastic view but lack of cleanliness don't get me wrong the sheets were spotless but there was lots of dust around the skirting boards and the room just looked dated. the tiles in the bathroom floor were cracked and a few hairs on the floor. we cleaned the bath before use and it had a tacky plastic shower curtain and an old shower with duel taps which kept over heating. breakfast time certain staff were not that nice as if it was a chore to serve us as we didn't decide fast enough.
Review 122:the bed and the fridge and the fantastic view after we were moved.
Review 123:The drain in the shower was slow.
Review 124:The staff being were so friendly and helpful. The location was brilliant and the room was good value for an overnight trip.
Review 125:The only thing I didn't like was that we weren't booked to stay longer! I felt really at home there. As it turned out, I'm glad the first hotel was unable to honour our booking as the Chatsworth is a little gem.
Review 126:We booked this hotel at the last minute, since the hotel where we had already booked a twin room telephoned us on the day to say that actually they couldn't provide a twin room after all, only a double - which my teenage daughter refused. On arrival we were greeted by friendly helpful staff, and discovered we had been upgraded to a sea view at the Chatsworth. Couldn't have been happier with our stay, location was perfect literally opposite the beach and plenty of places to eat, shops etc just a 5 minute walk away. The room had everything we needed, including comfortable seats in the lovely bay window where we could sit and listen to the music coming from the bandstand, or enjoy the view of the pier and the beach. The breakfast was great, unhurried and plenty of choice, and served by cheerful friendly staff. The bathroom, although in need of a bit of updating, was more than adequate for our needs and everything was very clean. I heard another guest saying the hotel is due to be refurbished during the coming year - some of the decor is looking a little tired - but I hope they don't make too many changes to this charming hotel. Despite being along the sea front, and it being high season, it wasn't noisy at night and we slept well in the comfortable beds.
Review 127:uncomfy bed shower not very good no power lack of real ales and lagers in bar please note im not complaining
Review 128:our stay was very nice staff were excellent we had a meal and breakfast food was 100% hotel clean
Review 129:Rooms were very hot even with a fan, bathroom was very very small. I struggled to sit on the toilet because it was so cramped and I am 28.
Review 130:Breakfast, Location.
Review 131:Very Small Room, No bathroom mirror, Toilet cistern Broken, Shower broken, no air con just an old freestanding fan. None of the staff were English. No parking at the hotel so parking is a serious issue if there is an event on. We had to park half a mile from the hotel and walk.
Review 132:Great location, Great Dinner and Breakfast, Friendly Staff. Excellent silver service in the dining room.
Review 133:Customer service is exceptional. All staff were so polite, helpful. They were just amazing and made the holiday. Meals were excellent and restaurant staff were 5 *.
Review 134:Staff didn't provide information at check in. We needed to ask even where the room was located.
Review 135:The decoration is great and we loved the lift. Room was simple but cosy and clean.
