Reviews for Shendish Manor Hotel
Review 1:Customer service in restaurant not good. Manager actually forgot to give us a dessert menu so we never had a dessert. Plus bar man took forever serving us our irish coffee and a capachinno. When we asked for it he wasnt very apologetic, manager didnt seem to care either. Lounge area pretty dull and lifeless in the evening, no music.
Review 2:Bed was very comfy. Food in restaurant very good.
Review 3:It would have been good to know in advance that the road to the manor was not accessible by foot after dark! Fortunately we had a touch otherwise it could have ended badly. Room was a little run down with leaking ceiling, cigarette burn marks on thr bath etc
Review 4:Excellent value for money, beautiful surroundings, A delicious varied breakfast and I was very pleased that hotel staff honoured my special request.
Review 5:The staff told me upon arrival I needed to pay £180 in total although the room was £58 when I asked why I was told it was incase I wanted anything charged to the room to which I said I didn't want anything and I was told there was no way around it in the end after a 10 minute discussion i was told i could pay just the £58 for my room which is what i had originally asked to do. Also my "double bed" was two single mattresses pushed together which was extremely uncomfortable
Review 6:The dinner in the restaurant was lovely and very reasonably priced.
Review 7:Bathroom required some attention, sink pressure meant you got wet when you washing your hands and shower very noisy
Review 8:Really good stay, breakfast was very good. Nice hotel and room comfortable
Review 9:I didn't think the price matched what you got and I stated it was for my husbands 50 th but got nothing or even a happy birthdayx
Review 10:The rooms were spacious very pleasant staff
Review 11:Not much in the hotel to do. While walking to our room at 3pm there were still breakfast try's along the corridors.
Review 12:Nice cosy room comfortable bed and big tv.
Review 13:Our only minor gripe is that breakfast room was poorly lit. It's probably lovely on a summer's day as there's a wall of windows, but in midwinter it was barely light outside so we ate in semi darkness!
Review 14:The staff were helpful and professional. Our rooms in the modern wing were spacious and clean. Beds were really comfy, there were all the usual facilities, I especially liked the large TV and clean, modern bathroom.
Review 15:The staff were courteous and professional, the rooms clean, the setting of the Hotel excellent coupled with ample parking. The food was well prepared with a varied choice.
Review 16:Staff were clearly wanting to be elsewhere as they looked uninterested and one tried to over charge us in restaurant when he was the one who served us!
Review 17:Food, cleanliness and views were excellent.
Review 18:Parked in a space below a tree which is apparently notorious for bird s**t. Car was covered in it by the morning and had to clean it before leaving. Hotel & room were spotless
Review 19:Couldn't expect more for price, great value. Only issue was a missing tv remote from the room, but a replacement was supplied to the room within minutes.
Review 20:Shared a disable room with my mum and would have had a better sleep with single beds rather than a double but double disabled room was only available.
Review 21:Size of the room. Breakfast was very good and staff very helpful. Lovely views from breakfast room. Lovely quite location.
Review 22:Only one mirror in room and no where near a seat or area to put items to be used, hair dryer, makeup etc.
Review 23:Staff very helpful, room very comfortable, had accessibility room.
Review 24:Service was very poor with staff who hadn't had training. Wrong breakfast order came out 20 mins after ordering and then it was only 1 meal out of 4 - the egg was also raw. Staff were not attentive but did move us rooms when the heating didn't work. Shame really as relied On good reviews . Unprofessional
Review 25:Rooms were clean and comfortable when the heating worked . . . Dinner was also nice (bar snack). Perfect location for the Warner bros Harry Potter tour. Receptionist was helpful!
Review 26:N/A
Review 27:The property was beautiful absolutely stunning! Even though there was a work do and a wedding on this did not impact our enjoyment at all. The staff couldnt do enough and were very happy and ready to help! Room was very big and comfortable with a great bath/shower room. Room rate fantastic for the service we received, room itself and breakfast in the orangery :D thank you!
Review 28:We were told breakfast finished at 11 buy it actually finished at ten, so we missed out on breakfast the morning after our stay who have we had payed for.
Review 29:The bedroom was lovely comfortable stay and the atmosphere in the evening in the lounge was lovely.
Review 30:Sometimes there are several trays of dirty crockery littering the fairly narrow hallways or piles of dirty linen and this is when we check in, in the afternoon. Housekeeping staff can be very loud, no chance of a sleep in if we've had a late night. We've also been disturbed by knocking at the door at 8.00am with the woman returning 20 mins later to try again. I've learnt to hang the do not disturb sign on the door.
Review 31:We stay here regularly because we like the experience so much. Perhaps I shouldn't praise the hotel too much as there have been occasions, when weeks in advance, I've found all the rooms booked on my preferred date! The reception staff are always delightful, as are the staff in the restaurant, though the quality of service can vary possibly due to waiters being new to the job.
Review 32:As always when I stay at the Shendish Manor Hotel, the staff are wonderful, the place is gorgeous and the food is good. Probably why I come back. Have been several times.
Review 33:Unfortunately we were given room 70 which has the view of a wall approx. a couple of metres away even though we booked quite a long time ago.
Review 34:Amazing value for money and very helpful staff.
Review 35:The pillows were small and slightly uncomfortable
Review 36:Beautiful hotel and surroundings. Clean and tidy. Friendly staff, good breakfast. I would recommend.
Review 37:Excellent hotel, my partner and I needed a night away and this was perfect! We went to the Harry Potter studios and it was in the perfect location, not to close and not to far away! It has beautiful grounds and we may even book for our wedding in the future.
Review 38:Rooms a bit dated . Pity there isn't a separate bar that you could go to or even sit at instead of having to go to the Library area ( or reception as it seems to be ) even to have bar good you seem to have to eat it there.
Review 39:Friendly staff, nice food
Review 40:broken toilet seat it had a crack in it(and not that's not a joke), did report it but wasn't changed.
Review 41:lovely and clean, good staff and food, nice room, value for money
Review 42:The restaurant didn't have much vegetarian choice leaving us no choice but to go out to dinner.
Review 43:Staff were helpful, it was quite with beautiful surroundings . Room was good clean and comfortable. Lovely breakfast perfect poached eggs , very attentive staff
Review 44:We were a bit disappointed with the amount of sandwiches we recieved with our high tea....there didnt seem to be enough to go around. Not value for money.
Review 45:Very family friendly
Review 46:I wasn't fond of the fact we were a young couple and there wasn't much going on on a night
Review 47:The receptionist was lovely and the staff we very helpful it was good value for money
Review 48:The catering team couldn't quite cope with 2 simultaneous events and a full dining room resulting in main course suffering.
Review 49:Location, venue and people.
Review 50:Nothing breakfast rushed told find a table not one table free all dirty. Breakfast ok but waiter hit my table 7 times. Not a nice environment
Review 51:On arrival first impression was good. The receptionist very polite friendly and good start. The room ok but toilet to close to door making it difficult to sit on and bed very uncomfortable came apart in the night cleaners outside door at 8am shouting polish or check I believe so I opened my window to find 2 cleaners smoking outside my window not good
Review 52:Friendly/helpful reception. Attentive dinning room staff. Beautiful surroundings and ambiance. Comfortable and pristine furnishings. Ample car parking - without additional fee.
Review 53:Not very clear notice of the main entrance from the road- could be better lit, as could the drive up to the hotel.
Review 54:Very helpful, friendly staff - everyone offered a greeting. Lovely room - very quiet. Food was fabulous although a "lighter bites" option wouldn't go amiss!
Review 55:Welcome at reception was a little drab :(
Review 56:I needed a phone charger late at night and thus was sorted super quick !! The menu and quality of food in the restaurant was superb!
Review 57:Not as much solution at the bar but it wasn't hat much of a bother. I wanted to have a nice dark rum but only had caption Morgan's
Review 58:I liked how they made my stay personal with my girlfriend, by wishing her a happy birthday with a lovely selection brownies and cheese cake.
Review 59:Apart from a nearby broken lift announcing "doors closing" repeatedly during early hours, all was excellent.
Review 60:Relaxing ambience. Well appointed rooms. Excellent food.
Review 61:My only critisism of the hotel was the bed. By far the most unfomfortable bed and pillows we have had. Was like sleeping on a rock for the night. Part from that the hotel was spot on.
Review 62:The location was beautiful, out the way and quiet which is what we look for. The bar facility and lounge area was extremely relaxing and comfortable. We didn't eat at the hotel but the restaurant was lovely. We booked a double room which had a nice view, enough space and a nice bathroom. Our purpose for the trip was somewhere to stay overnight as we visited Harry Potter studios which was 15 mins down the road in Watford. Finally the staff we exceptional, made us feel very welcome and made sure we really enjoyed out stay.
Review 63:No view - overlooking the walls ! The accommodation is not responsible the photos. And we have heard all the noise from the corridor in the room at night ...
Review 64:Had to have 2 rooms as they didn't have a family room but felt they could have put additional beds in the one room as the size was large enough
Review 65:Service was excellent. Hotel was great.
Review 66:Was a bit of confusion over a bill we had.sorted quick enough but was a little upsetting
Review 67:Very clean and tidy.staff very helpful and couldn't do enough to help
Review 68:Whilst the evening meal was generous and well presented with a decent choice, it's not fine dining and varied considerably in qualiHotety from the first to the second nights of dining.
Review 69:Convenient location with free parking and wifi. Package included an evening meal each night and a generous buffet breakfast.
Review 70:Nothing
Review 71:Upon arriving I was allocated one of the newer 'motel' rooms but I asked about staying in the original manor house. The reception staff were lovely and found a room for me on the top floor which was absolutely luxurious. I had travelled the length and breadth of the UK for the previous month staying in similar places and this was by far the best, and cheaper than the nearby Premier Inn! I had dinner and breakfast in the restaurant which were both well presented and tasty. A beautiful property in a lovely setting.
Review 72:Room was a little cool and the air conditioning unit just blew out cold air, even on a hot setting. It felt ok in the morning, but when I first walked in the evening before, it would have been nice to have a bit of heat.
Review 73:Lovely comfy bed. And great to have a bath in the bathroom.
Review 74:We were near to the lift and next to a very noisy room which kept slamming doors. But it didn't ruin our stay.
Review 75:The overall hotel was lovely and the staff very friendly and accommodating
Review 76:Great location for Harry Potter studios, and other attractions around the London area. Really relaxed atmosphere around the hotel, rooms were large in size and food was really good.
Review 77:there was a service road right outside the window, no real problem, but a couple of cars and people went past.
Review 78:The room was wonderful, bed was super comfy. Buffet breakfast, which was hot and a good selection.
Review 79:Expected a king size bed for the price of the room. Duvet was two singles zipped together to form a double, not comfy either. Yellow stain on the white duvet. Have slept in a better bed at a premier inn hotel!
Review 80:Grounds were beautiful. Great breakfast.
Review 81:The staff where lacking any management control, despite been lots of them. Very limited dining options menus etc, not surprising as it took two and a half plus hours to supply a basic meal
Review 82:Facility is brilliant, spacious, clean & well kept. Polite. Great atmosphere.
Review 83:Had lots of problems with dinner, meals arriving 1/2 an apart and 3 having to be returned, service quite slow, but to be fair they had new staff being trained. Sat down to eat at 7.15 was still there at 9.45 waiting for dessert
Review 84:Bed was comfortable
Review 85:Heating was not working in the room but a electric radiator was brought up to our room which was absolutely fine
Review 86:Extremely friendly staff, very good food, great service. We had visited Harry Potter world and this hotel was just 5 miles away. Highly recommended. .
Review 87:The restaurant food was very good but bar drinks were expensive and staff were unsure on how to make many types. Understand staff training has to be done by mentoring is key. Overall the Hotel was very good.
Review 88:The restaurant was overpriced the food was not good at all. Myself and my partner's food was tough and not cooked correctly at all - something you would expect when paying £40 for two courses.
Review 89:The hotel itself and rooms were very classy yet modern, very clean and cosy.
Review 90:We stayed on a Sunday night. Suspect when its busy it will be noisy??
Review 91:A 4 star hotel that lives up to its rating. The dinner was really quite good: indeed for a 'conference hotel' it was exceptionally good. Highly recommended
Review 92:Shendish Manor is a beautiful hotel, I enjoyed my stay there for many reasons. •The food was good quality both the main menu and the breakfast. •The Manor is in a scenic quiet location, it was good to sit outside and not be disturbed. •The staff were helpful and very polite.
Review 93:If the driveway leading to the hotel were resurfaced I would have given location full marks. We have stayed here on several occasions and it seems to be getting worse. Such a pity.
Review 94:The staff were all efficient and courteous. The food was well presented and served. Our room was very comfortable and contained everything required.
Review 95:Room service unpredictable. Dinner reservation information sketchy. Badcoordination Bad communication Maitre d rude at dinner. Never contactedManager as promised
Review 96:Rural location and easy access to major highways & trains
Review 97:The view from the window was rather disappointing and I found the room to be very hot and dry despite having the window open.
Review 98:I liked the bed, it was very large, comfortable and had plenty of cushions. Additionally, the room was very spacious and furnished nicely.
Review 99:The room was spacious and fab but if I had to be really picky it was that our room had a view of a painted brick wall.
Review 100:It's a beautiful building, grounds and location. Service and friendliness of staff lived up to reviews.
Review 101:People roaming corridors at 3am and 4.30 am having come from the bar shouting and laughing at the top of their voices keeping us awake
Review 102:Hotel grounds and staff were first class
Review 103:We specifically asked for a Room in the Manor House which was a huge mistake. We were allocated a room on the 2nd Floor at the front. 2 Skylights you couldn't open and a small sash window. No large window view' at all. The 2nd Floor Corridor & Room were hot, you couldn't use the talk fan supplied in the room for noise, and if you opened the small window for air, the room was invaded by gnats. Never had a room where only choice of pillows was 'rock hard' and it's the worst nights sleep my wife and I have ever had in a hotel. To add salt, at 6.45am on a Monday morning an HGV Delivery Truck pulled up outside the front under our window and proceeded to unload - the noise was ridiculous given hotel rooms above, but I guess this didn't really matter as we had both been awake throughout the night and certainly since 4am anyway. Was truly disappointing - we had 2 nights booked but checked out at 7.30am after the first night. Guess our mistake was not asking for a Room in the modern wing which we learned had Air Con. Anyway, perhaps most disappointing is that we were told the Manager would ring us - as yet NO CALL received. The Manor looks nice from the outside, it's attached to a Golf Club and we may have given benefit of the doubt and tried the Modern Wing at some time, but clearly customer after care is not a priority for this place.
Review 104:Prospect of authentic Manor House. Having stayed at Coombe Abbey, we expected a nice Manor House.
Review 105:Own a big car, road to manor was single track so not good when 2 vehicles trying to pass each other. Walls very thin, lot of noise from neighbouring rooms
Review 106:Nice spacious room with comfortable bed
Review 107:Being debited £50....just in case..???? No place to enjoy a drink, other than lobby. Stale water smell, when entering room.
Review 108:Breakfast, and staff where friendly and approachable
Review 109:Service from restaurant staff not very good. Made out that the restaurant was very busy yet it was only 25% full. Staff forgot what we ordered and kept getting our order mixed up with the next table.
Review 110:Nice location
Review 111:Noisy private party in function room next to restaurant
Review 112:Comfortable queen sized beds, great bar and restaurant service, hearty buffet breakfast, stylish dinner location
Review 113:Television in my room only worked intermittently. Had finished my breakfast by the time they got round to asking me if I wanted a hot drink.
Review 114:Great Service. Comfortable room, adequate breakfast.
Review 115:This hotel is in a lovely setting very quiet and peaceful the hotel is furnished to a high standard and food staff and service couldn't be faulted
Review 116:On our first evening we went to the restaurant for an evening meal and had to wait over an hour for our main and no apology was given, the food was delicious when it finally arrived. The second evening we went to the local Chiquitos, less then five minutes drive and no problems waiting for food. Unfortunately the breakfast was not much better, on both mornings the glasses and cutlery were dirty and when we complained we were given even dirtier replacements.
Review 117:It was in the ideal location for our visit to The Warner Brothers Studio Tour. The room and surroundings were amazing and great value for money.
Review 118:The hotel is about half a mile up a minor road/ driveway. It is a very pleasant location, but not ideal if wanting to walk to local venues.
Review 119:The hotel is in lovely grounds and the rooms are spacious and smartly decorated.
Review 120:Rip off breakfast. Plus they block your card for the amount of your stay plus a bit more in case you spend something in the hotel. Then charge you for your actual stay and will not remove the block for a week. One night cost me over 300. Not good enough
Review 121:Nice gardens
Review 122:I found a dead moth in my room, even though it was dead I really don't want it in my room. Also I did find it strange that there was no water in the room.
Review 123:The reception staff are not very "friendly" very abrupt and I did not feel very welcome, I felt it was just very in and out. They where also very quick with everything not taking time and I find that very unwelcome as I was attending a family wedding.
Review 124:The mattress was a little hard for me and the kids.
Review 125:The staff were smiley and v helpful. The venue is beautiful and the service at all times was fantastic.
Review 126:Beautiful surroundings and gardens. Even though there was a very large wedding taking place, you would never have known as it was very quiet. Would definately recommend it!
Review 127:Mobile reception was poor. I wish I had known in advance that there was a pool we could book to use, as I had not brought my swim kit, which was a real shame. There was a wedding party and lots of vehicles out front which made the disabled access /parking for us a bit tricky. The breakfast location was difficult - not in the dining room (maybe they were setting up for the wedding?) but up some steps along an uneven floor through a long corridor - and we could not find the room where the buffet was laid out at first - staff were not helpful, which was difficult as my husband is blind and I am arthritic.
Review 128:We booked an evening meal for four. The quality of the food and presentation was excellent, as was the service. The grounds are very well kept. The decor is shabby chic, which I liked. Clearly the hotel has been brought back from the brink of disrepair, and is still being upgraded.
Review 129:buffet breakfast not as hot as I would have liked, need to turn the bain maries up a bit
Review 130:great facilities, excellent quality of standard room, as good as most superior rooms I stay in. Dinner very good and very sensible prices all round. Really enjoyable stay!
Review 131:They charged me ten pounds more than my booking .com booking took two pounds off because I had breakfast there but were not interested when I queried it
Review 132:Beautiful setting smart and comfortable I arrived v late and was not a problem for them
Review 133:Staff were uninterested. Room door wouldn't close properly and staff were not concerned. Bar staff were inexperienced and being told off by restaurant staff.
Review 134:Beautiful surroundings
Review 135:Struggled to work the tv as instructions were unclear. Honestly I struggled to think of something negative.
Review 136:The location is stunning with wonderful tranquil grounds. The staff are friendly and welcoming and the room is good quality.
Review 137:Very disappointing that the breakfast not included in the stay as the price of the room should then be less. The cost of the breakfast was too much as that put on nearly a third of the cost of the room. This made is that the stay was not value for money.
Review 138:The location and the friendly helpful staff.
Review 139:It would have been great if breakfast was available until 10.30
Review 140:The gardens were lovely, beautiful peaceful picturesque setting. Comfy beds, spacious double room and easy to connect to wifi to keep my son happy.
