Reviews for Brooks Guesthouse Bristol
Review 1:Great location. Delicious breakfast. Clean and comfortable room with high quality furnishings. Great price with late booking. Arrived at 11.30pm and wasn't an issue. Friendly and helpful staff.
Review 2:Dear Brooks Guest House, We recently stayed at your guest house for a night and sadly experienced a few issues that affected our sleep and leisure. Firstly, on the website it was clearly advertised that in our room there would be an Ipod dock, ironing facility's, a fan, an alarm clock and a radio, however this was not the case, as all of these facility's were missing, and they were all apart of the price? Secondly, getting to sleep was difficult as there were many noises from others near by, I understand that it is a guest house and others will be up late at night talking, however, the room was also advertised as soundproof. Another issue with the room was the heater, the heater was not working properly and on the screen I couldn't see whether it was on or off and what temperature I was putting it on, also it kept turning itself off, this was not ideal as a draft coming from the closed windows. Finally, at precisely 23:09 the fire alarm went off and lasted for roughly 2 minutes with no body around to find out what was going on, this caused us to panic, get up and get dressed for no reason , I believe for the safety and well-being of your guests somebody should have been around to tell us what was going on. Many Thanks Mica Williams. Our booking number is BK20712/1/1 Room 18.
Review 3:Lack of staff communication Booking was cancelleled behind my back The whole 'retro' approach is great idea but doesn't reach dizzy heights or expectations Better availability in Bristol for less
Review 4:Location - for food money entertainment etc but poor for appointment
Review 5:The initial arrival, which was about 9pm on a pre Christmas Thursday night, meant the area was full of party goers, it was dark and difficult to locate BUT a call to the hotel put things right, they were very helpful and we found it.
Review 6:A real hidden gem in the centre of the city. Very friendly staff and a delicious breakfast.
Review 7:I was put in a caravan on the roof, which was sub-zero despite the radio and fan heater and offered little soundproofing. Was that cold got zero sleep and could here everything from the bars below. Suggest the caravans shouldn't be advertised in the winter - genuinely unhealthy.
Review 8:Central and beautiful location. Opposite a lovely market. Quiet (which is amazing considering how central it is. Lovely staff. All works very smoothly. No problems at all. Incredible value for money (though did have a discount as January not a peak time). Made Bristol visit twice as enjoyable.
Review 9:The beds were extremely uncomfortable, very lumpy, clearly a very old mattress. Also the room was very very hot and there was no way of cooling down as the windows wouldn't open nor was there AC. Noise, during the night there were people shouting loudly in the hotel courtyard.
Review 10:The location was abit noisey being in the centre of Bristol it should be expected though! Nothing at all against the hotel
Review 11:Very friendly staff lovely clean modern hotel
Review 12:We couldn't work the fan in the shower room. We had to ask for some items that were missing from my daughters room.
Review 13:We liked the location and the helpful staff. We also liked it's individuality.
Review 14:Noise from the bar next to our window - I doubt window was properly closed.
Review 15:Location is very nice, staff was nice - giving advices of the places to visit and also gave us an umbrella so we will not get wet while sightseeing
Review 16:Walls were a bit thin, could hear other guests.
Review 17:The comfy bed was amazing, didn't have breakfast but it looked incredible and rooms were simple but perfect for our requirements.
Review 18:There was a broken window in rocket 2 and when I woke up there was a massive puddle there and ta where I had my speaker close by, so it could have damaged it also the rocket was freezing even with the heater on because of this
Review 19:No handwash in the bathroom, however I think this was a simple oversight that I should've flagged earlier. Confident the hotel staff would've rectified.
Review 20:Great location, friendly and attentive staff. Home away from home, cosy room and lovely hearty breakfast.
Review 21:Firstly, not the problem of the Guesthouse, be aware that this is in the centre of Bristol, parking is tricky, only in NCP carparks, many of which have low entry heights! The room was nice, but the walls are thin, and the outside noise was also off-putting.
Review 22:The location of the Guesthouse is central, right by the St Nicholas market. The breakfast was varied and well cooked. The staff friendly and helpful.
Review 23:We had some unexpected noise during the night but the staff were very nice and compensated us with free breakfast.
Review 24:Very friendly staff, super breakfast and great location.
Review 25:Carpets in the corridors are soiled with fluids !! pity as the rest wasclean room was small but cosy shouldnt cost more than we paid inbooking .com 50 pounds outside lacked attention winter time but itsxmas §shower needs attention room 7 and also needs to be cleaned aroundthe grooves stained !
Review 26:Decoration and situation and bed .
Review 27:Parking is nearby and we forgot to ask for the discount voucher at the hotel. Paid £21 for less than 12 hours. (Usually it's £14.)
Review 28:Location is central with easy access to good restaurants.
Review 29:Mattress needs replacing. Some noisy late-night revellers passing by in street outside until 2.30am.
Review 30:Helpful, friendly staff. Excellent breakfast. Everything you need for a short stay. Central location.
Review 31:I couldn't see how to work the heated towel tail in the bathroom! Could have asked but I was only there for one night, so it wasn't really an issue.
Review 32:Comfortable room, with clean bathroom and all the facilities you need for an overnight stay.
Review 33:The beds. We had a twin room and both beds were really uncomfortable as they gave no support. They were like hammocks - extremely soft.
Review 34:Rooms were nicely furnished and decorated. Dining room area was very welcoming. Well placed for most city centre attractions. Staff were very helpful.
Review 35:Drunken idiot guests rampaging round the hotel at 2am on one occasion.
Review 36:Great room...very clean and tastefully decorated. Lovely bathroom. Staff were fabulous- friendly, helpful and welcoming. Location was excellent for exploring the city.
Review 37:Double room (number 11) so small only one person could sit on chair, the other had to sit on bed. Bathroom very cramped.
Review 38:Right in centre of town but quiet location. Good breakfast but expensive unless you book direct. Josef was very friendly and helpful.
Review 39:What I liked were: The caravan on the roof... and the location... although difficult to find the place at first, it turned out to be a gr8 location...
Review 40:A little noisy at night, but this is not a complaint. As the guest house is in the heart of the city you have to expect there to be noise. Guest house itself is very quiet. Rooms a little small.
Review 41:Staff very friendly. Guest house very clean and comfortable.
Review 42:Brooks provides a really different and delightful experience to a hotel. The breakfast is great - everything freshly cooked to order. You can't beat it.
Review 43:Unfortunately we were next to a very loud pub, they seemed to be emptying bottle bins for about an hour . The music was really loud with a heavy base, people singing and shouting all night until about 3.30am. around 6.30 am stall holders started to set up next door etc so in all we got about three hours sleep. Shattered for work the next day, if I could have got a bus home that night I would have left. Shame - it was a nice room and hotel.
Review 44:Nice room and great property
Review 45:It can be noisy as close to a couple of bars but not much they can do about that I suppose apart from soundproofing.
Review 46:Friendly staff. Great location and somewhere different to the normal standard type hotels! Amazing breakfast too!
Review 47:Shampoo was supplied but no conditioner! Also selected the preference for a 'quiet room' when booking, but got a room opposite bars/nightclubs (at least it was a Sunday night) and was woken by rubbish collection vehicle early in the morning.
Review 48:Hotel was cosy and was in a great central location, just seconds away from St. Nicolas market.
Review 49:Our first room number 19 was very disappointing. Wallpaper was peelingoff, damp patches and very pokey. The view was to a wall. No WhiteCompany toiletries as described. Not what I would consider a superiorroom. Room 2, our second room was better, but a little tired still.Could do with new carpets at the very least. The hotel is is very noisy. There was a big group of ladies having a party in the public area whichmeant we couldn't use it. We attempted to watch a dvd in our roombut gave up as the noise was so bad! Noone to contact as reception leaveat 8pm! Very disappointing as we were celebrating my daughters 13thBirthday after a very difficult year. Unfortunately our stay was nowherenear as special as I expected for the price I paid. I would really likefor someone from the hotel to contact me please
Review 50:I loved the location, very pretty and atmosphere very good. Glad that Icame by train as parking would have been a big issue. The bed was verycomfortable and had feather pillows which was lovely.
Review 51:Some of the rooms are next to a loud nightclub that has a 2am license. So, if you're staying on a weekend and are not too much of a night owl then you might want to make sure yours isn't that side of the building or bring earplugs.
Review 52:Super-central location with friendly staff, a generous breakfast and a quality shower. On weekends breakfast is served until 11am, which is a real boon if you've been up late.
Review 53:The rocket had a few things that could have improved our stay. The door to the loo was loose but as we are handy people we fixed it ourselves, but still the door was tricky to use. The sky light being over our bed without a blind meant I woke up really early as I'm light sensitive. If it's too difficult to organise a blind, some eye masks would do the trick for me. Also the lead on the radio was coking apart so the radio kept switching it self off!
Review 54:It was fantastic location and lovely place and we stayed in a rocket on the roof which was so fun! The staff were lovely and helpful too!
Review 55:Unfortunately, there was no wifi in all of the guest rooms. Room/bathroom was a little dark, and it would have been great if there were more sockets (especially in the bathroom). Only one key for a double room.
Review 56:Very tasteful and modern interior furnishing.Super friendly, attentive and multilingual staff. Nice breakfast.
Review 57:The room was very small, there wasn't a wardrobe (though there were hooks dotted about the room) and it was noisy (both the corridors and from the outside courtyard) which made it difficult to get a good night's sleep. I would expect more for the price.
Review 58:Staff were great,guesthouse was clean,decor modern,nice communal areas,good location.
Review 59:rooms are tiny and there are no wardrobes - just hooks. It's ok for an overnight stay but not if you are there for a few nights.
Review 60:great breakfast and nice atmosphere in the hotel - it's got a cosy feel
Review 61:Remember to get a car park pass or a one night stay can cost you £36 in parking fees if you are not careful.
Review 62:Great location, relaxing laid back atmosphere.
Review 63:Plain, drab and characterless room. Poorly fitting toilet seat. Noise, especially at night. Lack of sleep due to outdoor noise Lack of atmosphere
Review 64:Understanding and accomodating attitude of staff.
Review 65:There was quite a bit of noise from outside late at night including an alarm going off so maybe the windows could be a little better at keeping noise out. The bed was a little soft for us.
Review 66:I liked the decor and friendliness of the hotel staff. The breakfast was very tasty with lots of option. The location was good for exploring Bristol.
Review 67:Nothing
Review 68:Location, quirky - especially the rockets on the roof. It was my birthday, and was given a bottle of wine, which was a lovely thought. Will return, and try a hotel room next time
Review 69:Very hard to find! Only thing missing is some sort of work station/desk
Review 70:Loved the intimate ambience and breakfast was amazing. Rooms are on the cosy side but beds and duvets very comfortable. Will be back with my daughter to stay in the rooftop caravans.
Review 71:Possibly a couple of extra biscuits on the hospitality tray!
Review 72:The staff were welcoming and friendly. The location is very central and contrary to some other reviews I had seen we found it to be peaceful and quiet.
Review 73:Parking expensive £16 for 24hours. Breakfast was £8.50pp booking though booking.com so decided to go without. Small double was very small so got quite hot & there was a lot of noise next to the b&b at 5am (maybe from the market opposite?)
Review 74:Contemporary, quality accommodation in a central location. Lovely shower. Honesty bar a lovely idea, although didn't have chance to utilise it.
Review 75:The only thing we thought would be useful is some information about breakfast/checkout times etc.
Review 76:Excellent location, very friendly helpful staff and nice rooms. The caravans are particularly special.
Review 77:Room was a little small and outside it was a little noisy. Breakfast was expensive so we went outside.
Review 78:Stylish room, clean and in a good location near nice restaurants and cafes. Great deal with local NCP car park for a reduced rate
Review 79:Unfortunately the room was substandard, the window wouldn't close the sink was loose and the shower door was falling off. The room had 3 singles and not a double :( The service was 1st class unlike the accommodation, I've stayed twice before not again.
Review 80:The member of staff was brillant, I booked a caravan and he ungraded me to a room.
Review 81:The setting was central with a lovely court yard. Guest house was very well decorated, and the staff were fab and very friendly and helpful. Would definitely return and recommend it to others.
Review 82:The night staff were particularly helpful and friendly. The guest house is right in the middle of town within easy walking distance of loads of interesting restaurants and pubs. In spite of this it was very quiet. We stayed in one of the 'rocket' caravans on the roof - great fun.
Review 83:Such a noisy location! The bed was too soft, the airco didn't work and there wasn't a wardrobe or shower caps.
Review 84:Right in the middle of town, friendly staff, fab breakfast.
Review 85:it wasnt in the street it was advertised in...Very difficult to find the entrance, and as there is no parking dragging your case around the streets was frustrating. Also our room was advertised as 'Bed with Breakfast', so when we were charged £8.50 for the bowl of cornflakes and pot of chamomile tea I had we were shocked!!
Review 86:The room was very clean, not much space as it had 3 beds in it but it was sold as a 'compact' room. Placed in St Nicholas market it was perfectly placed for our shopping trip.It was a clean comfortable room, and had we not eaten breakfast it would have been good value.
Review 87:The rooms are possibly a bit on the small side, if one wanted to nick pick, but that is unavoidable and as the lounge is very comfortable you don't feel the need to sit around in your room.
Review 88:The location was terrific, the breakfast superb. Generally a very nice place to stay that I wouldn't hesitate to recommend
Review 89:The noise of bottles dropped in the middle of the night in the bin, no shelf in the shower for soap and shampoo made it difficult to use products, limited seating room at breakfast prevented me to have breakfast as all tables were full, two (small but nevertheless unpleasant) cockroaches in the room
Review 90:great central location, small but comfortable room
Review 91:Quite a few bars around wasn't ideal for us as we were travelling with young children, but not too much of an issue as we stayed on Sunday night so wasn't too disruptive.
Review 92:The location was excellent, very close to city for shopping. The staff very kind and aimed to meet our needs as much as possible.
Review 93:Stayed in the airstream mobile homes on the roof. Great fun. Quirky but still v comfortable including shower room, full sized double bed and flat screen TV. Fab!
Review 94:Bit noisy on the side my room was on - facing the slug and lettuce. Did not bother me but light sleepers may want to ask to be on the other side.
Review 95:Fantastic location, comfy rooms, nice decor, super breakfast. So great to find such a cool place to stay in the heart of the city.
Review 96:Was told that the parking would have cost half price , instead I had to pay £ 16 pounds to park the car in A public garage that would have cost £ 21 , considering that I left the car there for 8 h , I was quite disappointed, if I had been told exactly how things were I would have found an alternative.
Review 97:Everything was perfect , breakfast is outstanding and the chef as well as the ladies helping out were very professional and extremely friendly .
Review 98:The room furniture was a bit Spartan and the chest of drawers was very stained and had broken handles : it looked shoddy. The carpet was badly stained in places.
Review 99:Breakfasts - good quality and nicely cooked.
Review 100:I stayed 4 nights. Room was small and fairly basic although comfortable enough. Not keen on the Hessian carpets. I was glad I had the room to myself as there was no wardrobe or chest of drawers and little space around the bed. Needed a light above the mirror for make up. The windows did not block out the sound of the bar across the road. Luckily I sleep well.
Review 101:Superb location on top of the wonderful St Nicholas Market. 10 mins from the harbour, theatres, Colston Hall and buses. Plenty of eating out options. Friendly staff. Excellent breakfast and lounge area.
Review 102:The pigeons are rather noisy in the morning , we were in a caravan on the roof.
Review 103:Quirky ! Very clean and comfortable bed . Breakfast cooked to order , lovely.
Review 104:We had a room that overlooked a restaurant/bar across the road which could get noisy.
Review 105:Lovely hotel in a great location in the centre of town. The staff were warm and very helpful. Breakfast was fabulous. The room we had was small but we'll put together.
Review 106:Bed was a bit lumpy and soft, but didn't hamper sleep too much. Room was a little noisy, could hear beat of music at night and in early morning (before 7) could hear the fountain which was just outside our window in the courtyard, not ideal. We were in room 2.
Review 107:Good location, and staff were flexible with check in and very friendly and helpful. The lounge/breakfast area was nice as was the room. Shower satisfactory.
Review 108:Noise during night, from outside and room next door. Reception closes 23.00 h. Discussion about whether I and colleague had room reservation or not, while it was clear from Booking.com we had.
Review 109:Good bed. Very clean room. Good breakfast
Review 110:nothing
Review 111:Excellent location, quiet but central, great breakfast, lovely bathroom, supersoft beds, tea/coffee making facilities in room, were able to leave luggage there on last day
Review 112:When we arrived there wasn't anyone on reception so we couldn't get in. Although only for a short while. I asked for pressed in room had to ask for it. So it won't such a surprise.
Review 113:Lovely place. Staff very accommodating ref room requirements.
Review 114:The triple room was two single beds and one sofa bed! This was not mentioned anywhere in the description. It was an expensive night on the put-up bed :-(
Review 115:The location for the hotel was great for us as we wanted somewhere central and close to all the pubs/clubs
Review 116:Room not ready on our arrival smack on earliest check in time but supplied with lovely coffee to help pass the 20 minutes slight delay.
Review 117:Convenient city centre location, close to car park, could not expect it to have its own. Pleasant staff. Entrance nicely set back from busy market area. Liked the hooks on the walls instead of wardrobe.
Review 118:the fountain outside the window is noisy at night, can disturb sleep.
Review 119:beautiful décor, very comfortable bed, a fantastic location, I would definitely recommend it, we've been twice already!
Review 120:There wasn't much not to like. Could only be better with a jacuzzi in your bedroom
Review 121:Located next door to Bristol's St. Nicholas Market. A thriving Exotic food market. Clean, modern and a nice change from the average hotel 'chains'
Review 122:Noisy from the local bars, and then an early start in the morning when the cleaners came in to clean the bars and they put the load music on again. Would stay again though if ever in Bristol but would request a room facing the court yard.
Review 123:Loved the hotel, room was a bit small bit everything we needed and beautifully decorated. Staff very friendly, breakfast excellent and great value for money.
Review 124:Some tiny details let it down...stains on the carpets which I appreciate will happen however there are so many fantastic carpet cleaners out there this could be avoided....as well as this there were some shower products left in the bathroom half used by the previous occupier
Review 125:Fantastic stay, staff very welcoming and attentive will definitely be back
Review 126:Everything was fresh and clean although the room was not large it was adequate for one or two nights. The bed was very comfortable ,the shower was good, what more could you ask? Breakfast was delicious and nicely presented. Coffee was a bit weak .
Review 127:Nothing bad to say
Review 128:Staff were very polite. A lovely clean modern guesthouse. Would definitely stay again but perhaps next time in one of the retro caravans. Very conveniently situated
Review 129:Our only problem with this hotel happened as soon as I walked throughthe door, my boyfriend and I arrived separately to the hotel, him beforeme, and as I arrived at the check in, I was completely shocked to findthat my boyfriend had successfully gotten into the room, checked in,having only given my name. The hotel had absolutely no knowledge of whoI was staying with, I had given no name, no information, no nothing. Soreally, they had let a complete stranger in the room that I had bookedwithout even checking with me. I would have been more than happy forthem to ring me and check with me first, but no communication happened. So this problem had our trip off to a negative start. Unfortunately ourlate check out was forgotten and we had a knock on the door at 11am butthat wasn't that big a deal. Beautiful, we were in 20 on the secondfloor. Of course as bath people, we would have loved one but understandthat not every hotel can provide this!
Review 130:We were very happy with the rest of our stay! The room is absolutely Theshower had lovely pressure! Everything in the room & bathroom wasdecorated to a very high spec. The bed was luxurious! Mattress waslovely and soft, duvet the same, and the entire bed was so spacious! Wehad a marvellous night sleep! . Overall I do recommend this hotel to ahigh standard :)
Review 131:Constant noise until 4:30 a.m - drunks and venues. No ventilation, no phone in room, very poky room and very very small bathroom. Very narrow hallways felt like a fire trap. Unhelpful staff with poor english and very poor attitude. Over-priced and nothing to recommend. We relied on reviews of this website which was misleading.
Review 132:Proximity to markets etc
Review 133:1) Downside to central location is noise from pubs and restaurants. 2) TV remote missing, bedside alarm/clock not working (power supply missing). 3) Bin in bathroom but not bedroom. 4) No fridge. 5) Dim bathroom lighting.
Review 134:1) Very convenient central location. 2) Friendly staff. 3) Attractive interior with character and pleasant courtyard.
Review 135:The only things letting it down were the stains on the carpet...one in the room but several on the landing.
Review 136:Great location, super helpful staff. Recommended a fantastic place for dinner nearby. Good use of space in our triple room and en suite. Would definitely book again.
Review 137:The mattress wasn't great on my bed but I was sleeping alone so it didn't bother me much.
Review 138:Friendly, engaged & helpful staff. AMAZING caravans on the roof - I took my Mum as she's obsessed with vintage caravans and booked her into a small one by herself, she loved it!! Breakfast was delicious & great value. Very clean, great decor & amazing location right next to St Nicholas markets.
