Reviews for Cairngorm Hotel
Review 1:Cold breakfast room. Piped music
Review 2:Comfortable bedroom with proper bath. Excellent dinner, first rate service. Central location. Victorian style. Excellent breakfast. Very good value.
Review 3:Nothing.
Review 4:We have eaten in the Cairngorm before but this was the first time we have stayed there. The room was large and had everything we needed, all the staff were very helpful and they even surprised my wife on Friday night with a birthday cake. The food was also very good. To sum up hotel, staff and food excellent we would stay again.
Review 5:Only complaint really was the noise of the electric shower. It sounded like a very loud drill. Did not affect holiday in any way however.
Review 6:Homely atmosphere, excellent food and service, clean and tidy room, nice traditional bar with entertainment, reasonable prices for food and drink, close to transport facilities, central position, pet friendly.
Review 7:We were told our room would be noisy due to being over the bar and a live singer. However, once the night ended we had people under our window until 1am making vast amounts of noise. Also smoke came through our window where they were smoking. We were also overcharged and had to have bill recalculated.
Review 8:Great breakfast and bath in room. Dinner was nice too and good location
Review 9:Nothing really except the was nowhere to eat with dog, but they allow dogs to stay in the hotel. Seems silly to allow dogs yet have no area where owners can eat!!
Review 10:Lovely Scottish Hotel with charm. Excellent food and good value too. Top location.
Review 11:My son and I checked in for the Xmas break and enjoyed a lovely time at this hotel. The staff were friendly and accommodating. The food in the the restaurants was of a high standard and good value for money. The room was pleasant and clean and quiet. In all a good choice.
Review 12:The location is a blessing with the train and bus station right across the street. The hotel decoration is an absolute dream and the breakfast room is lovely in a cozy scottish way. The hotel restaurant food is awesome. At first the prices can seem a bit high but the size of the dish totally explains it... the individual doses are super well served! Definitely a place to return to.
Review 13:Rooms a little dated..our room located above a function suite with a party on til 1am wasn't ideal. Wallpaper peeling off the walls let it down a little.
Review 14:Centrally located, ample parking, friendly staff, drinks and meals charged to room made things easier. Nice decor...nice atmosphere.
Review 15:Firstly, the room was cold. During day time - morning and late evening we were in room only- the heater was warmish but after diner they probably switch of the heater to save some money so it was really cold that time.
Review 16:The best part is the restaurant.there is a variety of starters and main courses that are so delicious and fresh. Also the staff in restaurant were so kind on the contrary of hotel staff.
Review 17:Could have done with another chair in the bedroom.
Review 18:Made to feel very welcome by the reception staff. The room was fine for the one night but lacked sufficient wardrobe facilities if one were to be staying more then a couple of days.
Review 19:There are stairs but they helped out with the luggage. Probably due for new towels. The food in the restaurant at dinner was a bit ordinary.
Review 20:This is the place to stay in Cairngorm. Great staff particularly at reception, so helpful. They have recently replaced the beds so we had a huge kingsize which was very comfortable, even the pillows were good. Shower had good pressure. Great to have the bar downstairs and breakfast was excellent
Review 21:Have stayed there several times and always made welcome. Meals are good and plentiful. Staff can't do enough for you and are always cheerful. Well run establishment.
Review 22:Nothing would have no hesitation in returning
Review 23:Loved the location, staff were so friendly and helpful. The breakfasts were excellent. The main bar had a great atmosphere. The accommodation was very comfortable.
Review 24:We had a wonderful experience at the Cairngorm Hotel. First off, the customer service was outstanding. All of our interactions with the staff were excellent, friendly and attentive, and I would like to specifically mention Sandra who could not have been more helpful or pleasant throughout our stay, thank you Sandra! This is a very busy location, with the restaurant and bar on the main floor, but our room being located on the second floor may has well been on the moon it was so quiet! The room itself was lovely, with a nice sitting area. A very comfortable stay was had. The restaurant was fantastic! I highly recommend the steak and ale pie, which was one of the best I had on my trip. The included full Scottish breakfast, cooked to order, was a great start to each day. For dinner we were seated in the turret on our first night in Scotland, which is a great memory. The location is great, very central to the area. We won't hesitate to return on our next trip!
Review 25:On checking in the receptionist explained that we couldn't book a table for evening meal and we may need to wait for a table. We ate out. On return the Hotel now resembled a Refugee Camp feeding station, with all area full, including reception area, with families eating,- Apparently it is like this every night, with self-catering holiday makers descending on the Hotel to eat, due to the price value of meals - It is not what I expected, and with price they are charging for B&B I expected a more peaceful and relaxing atmosphere. It could be an excellent hotel, but the management have sold out for the profits that can be made by producing cheap and cheerful food for the holiday self catering market. Can't blame them for that, but the reality should be better explained prior to booking. Won't return - lesson learnt. Rooms cold at night and radiator gave little warmth -- electric fan heater in room to supplement heating, but with temperature expected in Aviemore I would expect C.H. to cope with cold.
Review 26:The main reason for booking was location in centre of Aviemore and photos of hotel portrays a comfortable good quality hotel.
Review 27:Didn't bother us too much but the street outside was quite noisy into the early hours. We would still ask for a front room again though.
Review 28:As always the hotel had very good food, a relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff. We had a lovely, large, front facing bedroom. Entertainment available. Ideal for trains and buses. We will be back.
Review 29:Wi-Fi is always important to me when I travel, as I live in Bulgaria andcurrently have a business project going just now, and the best way tocommunicate is via internet, email/Skype. I tried to log on, butcould not after many attempts. I asked at reception, and it would appearthat I was not the only one reporting problems! I was told to try acomputer shop adjacent to the hotel called 'Baztex'. The guychecked my laptop and told me it needed servicing, I had reformatted itjust 4 months previously, so did not believe that was the problem, buthe offered to service it for a 'mere' 49.95 gbp !! He thenchecked a schematic layout of the hotel router system on his pc andasked which room I was in, and told me which router I would be logginginto, then changed the password ( to no avail by the way), so it wasobvious that it was he who had installed the Wi-Fi system in the hotel.I had stayed in 7 different hotels in different countries en-route tothe uk, and no problems at any with Wi-Fi, so I suggest the Cairngormditch this guy and get a bona-fide installer and probably save themlosing more customers
Review 30:I have stayed here before on several occasions, and have little or nocomplaints about the hotel. It is old style Scottish, and the bar andrestaurant are very good, very good food and lots of choice ofbeers/ales in the bar.I Stayed on a Tuesday night and it was full, and the restaurant was full in the evening as well. Only complaint isthe Wi-Fi,
Review 31:The toilet cistern leaked ALL night with a high pitched hisssss. Mentioned it to the reception staff when we paid. Did not seem that bothered.
Review 32:Food is excellent.
Review 33:Room was meant to bo one of their best, windows wouldnt stay open had to wedge open with a coffee jar ! Chairs in room were torn and the whole room was dated and very very tired.
Review 34:Food was first class, the staff very friendly and helpful
Review 35:Half of the staff was very friendly and helpful, but the other half wasn't friendly at all. I felt like disturbing them just by being checked-in. Breakfasts was a mess!!! Staff was shouting loud and throwing spoons and etc in their boxes when cleaning tables. No peaceful mornings at all, was the same every breakfast.
Review 36:Lies very close to train and shops/restaurants.
Review 37:The wifi was rather poor, unfortunately.
Review 38:I loved the location, the hotel itself, and the friendly and helpful staff. The breakfast was also excellent. All in all, a great place for a holiday.
Review 39:Room and bathroom decor was very tired and in need of a refit Smoked haddock breakfast left me unable to eat for 2 days
Review 40:Great location in the middle of town Cheap and lively bar Great value dinner
Review 41:it can be very busy in the bar / restaurant as a lot of locals and people not staying in the hotel visit the facilities and as a result it can be difficult to find a parking space.
Review 42:atmosphere in the bar with live music. close proximity to Glenmore Forest / Cairngorm National Parc.
Review 43:The hotel was very expensive for the facilities, no lift - not funny when you have a lot of luggage and put at the back on the second floor, tight bedroom space for a twin room, old bathroom where the shower fell apart. Bathroom accessories were not replaced, neither were the biscuits and coffee even though we were booked for three days. Had to ask for everything. WiFi was shocking and they blamed our electronic items but they worked perfectly in the restaurant up the road. The staff managed to get the WiFi working after a lot of effort but by the time we reached our bedroom it failed each time. Car park full with non residents so VERY difficult to park. Basically an ageing property that is over priced and relying on past reputation.
Review 44:Bed linen and towels
Review 45:Hotel furnishings, beds etc are a bit run down.
Review 46:Great location. Very friendly bar staff. Tuesday night is quiz night. Food and drink prices very reasonable and good sized servings.
Review 47:The wonderful staff at the front desk. They arranged for a taxi to take us to Kincraig. Best of all, a staff member came to meet our train passing through on our return from Kyle to Edinburgh, handing off a jacket my husband had left behind in our room 3 days earlier!
Review 48:You can't reserve a table for lunch/dinner at all. If you want to have a drink and than have dinner you have to go to back to reception and if there are no tables free you are put on a waiting list and given a pager. Why not just let residents book?
Review 49:Excellent breakfast made fresh to order. Comfortable, clean room, good curtains that actually block out light. Windows that open wide.
Review 50:It is difficult to find major faults though Sunday night in the resturant was very noisy.
Review 51:warm welcome and helpful polite, friendly staff. Food was very good though portions very filling.
Review 52:The noisy bar across the street, open until 1.30 or thereabouts. Not good when you've a 25 mile hike ahead of you!
Review 53:Friendly and helpful staff, Room, Breakfast was great, The bar and lounge, Pets allowed.
Review 54:Although not a great problem for our group there is no lift.
Review 55:Staff very friendly and always willing to assist. Superb atmosphere in the bar. Great location in the centre of the town.
Review 56:The Lodge feel; the food, the friendly staff and the location for access to outdoor fun in the National Park. Also across the street from the Scotrail line.
Review 57:Leaving to continue on to Aberdeen
Review 58:No airs and graces, looks posh, feels posh but after 6 days walking from Oban and not exactly looking (or smelling fresh) we were treated like kings. Biggest bed in the world to boot.
Review 59:Nil.
Review 60:The locaion, train and bus accross from the hotel. Full English breakfast. Helpfull staff, comfortable room and not noisy. My third stay coming up soon.
Review 61:At first we found it difficult to access our bedroom which was on the the second floor, however the staff came to the rescue and relocated us to the first floor and helped us to remove our belongings
Review 62:the friendliness of the staff, the location of the hotel, and the very good food with such a variety and available all day
Review 63:Bad smell in the room, smell of sewage from the bathroom. Very hot, making it hard to sleep. Slow wifi.
Review 64:Staff were friendly. Breakfast and evening meals were good. Great location.
Review 65:Car parking was minimal, struggled to find a space - breakfast needed to be a bit earlier (but it was worth the wait)
Review 66:The staff were excellent, great food and a welcoming bar....
Review 67:The steak I ordered was not what I wished, and it was returned the same way, except the vegetables were now cold. It was a disappointing meal.
Review 68:Everything was fine overall.
Review 69:Although the dog was allowed in the room and the reception area he wasn't allowed in the bar. The reception area is grand and you can take a drink through, however, it's not really the same as being in the bar environment.
Review 70:Lovely hotel, friendly staff and the room was very nice especially for allowing dogs. (Some pet friendly hotels only offer basic / unrenivated rooms for dogs.)
Review 71:We were disapponted with the hotel restaurant hotel food. We ordered steak and 18.95 and it seemed very much like pub good, steak was cooked Medium tO well done and I asked fOr medium rare. Onion rings from frozen along with frozen chips. Very basic for the class of Hotel, expected alot more.
Review 72:I enjoyed the scenery and the local heritage. All so welcoming and polite with excellent knowledge and ideas where to go.
Review 73:Very small room, and bathroom not appropriate as my burn on my thigh isEvidence that scolding hot towel rail at the height of the loo with noroom is very dangerous. Just lucky I do not take legal action.
Review 74:Food very good
Review 75:Shower Ceilings No lift Heating poor
Review 76:Food excellent Staff brilliant Accommodation so so. Won't stay in the attic again but the hotel staff and regulars all really good spuds.
Review 77:Bathrooms could be updated although they were clean and functional. Lighting could have been brighter in room. WIFI although free was slow and log on tricky.
Review 78:Staff were very helpful and friendly. Beautiful building in the heart of Aviemore, the location couldn't be better. Looking forward to going back.
Review 79:Haven't got a clue !
Review 80:The staff made it for us even when they were not looking after us ! They were so attentive even to day visitors never been anywhere like it !!!
Review 81:Would have preferred soap dispensers in bathroom. Toilet did not flush properly and took an age to refill. Toilet rolls, tea bags etc. not replaced during our stay. (Had to ask for toilet rolls)
Review 82:Very friendly, helpful staff. Excellent food. Comfy bed and nice room.
Review 83:In my opinion..I found this hotel to be just about perfect. Located just meters from the rail station, and bus stops, and with shops, and cafes, bars etc within a minute or two walking distance, you won't be too concerned about wearing yourself out.Staff were friendly, and it has a nice bar too. Didn't have an evening meal here but breakfast was very good.
Review 84:Bed was Uncomfy. Room was a bit small. Expensive for what we actually recived. However, overall, the hotel was good, would go again.
Review 85:Staff were excellent. Atmosphere at the bar was brilliant at night.
Review 86:Bar is characterful with good selection of ales. Could have more comfortable seating and draft exclusion from entrance door
Review 87:Nice traditional hotel with good bar food and friendly efficient service. Room quality good and comfortable with excellent breakfast. Would definitely use again
Review 88:Nothing
Review 89:Staff were always on the ball. The quality of the food served in the restaurant was excellent and reasonably priced. It is an old building but has been very well maintained with all it's character stil there and yet of a standard you would expect in a good hotel. I would definitely return and recommend to others!
Review 90:Thin walls Being woken up by next door having a shower at 6am Small room Bed was 2 single beds together which things uncomfortable Poor TV reception
Review 91:Breakfast Lovely staff Location Parking Clean
Review 92:That our holiday was over!
Review 93:Staff friendly and professional, obviously well trained. Bar run well.restaurant well run, food great, room very comfortable and clean, great shower.
Review 94:The bathroom smelt very strongly as if someone had been smoking in it
Review 95:Staff were really great - very friendly & helpful, excellent choice of food & delicious
Review 96:I cannot say anything bad about our stay at this Hotel. From check in to the food, cleanliness of rooms and friendly efficient staff we both had a great time. We will go back and would happily recommend to others.
Review 97:Cutting my head on a low 'eave' in the room, which had no warning tape. Overall, in need of updating.
Review 98:Good, lively bar. Excellent 'front of house'. Large room.Excellent choice of fresh fruit for breakfast.
Review 99:Nothing at all everything was perfect
Review 100:The hotel was central for our golf courses and everything about the hotel was perfect.Rooms were clean and large enough.Food was excellent and plenty of it and there was also a bar or should i say a pub attached.
Review 101:It rained most of the weekend not that hotel could do anything about that. Other than that I have nothing negative to say about my weekend away.
Review 102:The whole package was great, the staff were very friendly and helpful, the food was delicious, the room was lovely and the bed was huge and comfy. The entertainment was good too.
Review 103:Can be noisy and there is no public area away from the noise. We have stayed many times here and enjoyed the great company but some people could find it too noisy.
Review 104:Great atmosphere- friendly an welcoming staff. Well organised to deal with large numbers wishing to dine. (Saturdays in particular many non-residents come in). Very comfortable beds. Excellent food in good quantity.
Review 105:The only thing I would say was that the housekeeping comes round rather early
Review 106:Have stayed here quite a few times and would never stay anywhere else when in aviemore , this hotel has the best breakfast ever and the bar is a great place to have lazy afternoons and fun evenings. Staff are brilliant and I can't recommend this hotel highly enough
Review 107:There was not anything we did not like
Review 108:Friendliness of staff, Choice and quality of food Amazing breakfast :-) Entertainment in the bar All round great place to stay
Review 109:The room was a little small. A more summery menu would be a appropriate for the season.
Review 110:Great location Bountiful breakfast Varied food menu Friendly staff, especially the receptionists
Review 111:The room we stayed in 121 could do with a revamp. The wardrobe was tiny and there are no chest of drawers, change the bedside tables for small chest of draws would help. Ideal for one person but not for couples.
Review 112:Excellent location
Review 113:Didn't get milk and tea bags replenished for morning tea but didn't spoil stay.
Review 114:Food was very good and obviously lots of people thought so as restaurant very busy. Location excellent. Overall pleasant stay.
Review 115:It allows dogs and we had one that howled whenever it was left.
Review 116:Restaurant, bar and staff leave nothing to be critical about and it has a traditional feel for its location.
Review 117:baths were steep to climb into - no supporting rails.
Review 118:We stayed in the Cairngorm for fun relaxation, and enjoyed our experience beyond expectation, The hearty highland buffet was an excellent dinner, and breakfast was tremendous 100% a winner, But most of all staff played their part by a mile, cheerful and helpful, all with a smile. Blessed by great weather, scenery devine, a truly fantastic holiday, we'll remember for some time.
