Reviews for Boxmoor Lodge Hotel

Review 1:The double beds were small. Also the bathroom was quite tired with a dripping bath tap. Although it was very clean

Review 2:The food in the restaurant was excellent at dinner and at breakfast.

Review 3:The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and even looked after our little dog while we went out. They could not have been better. Food in the restaurant was good and the breakfast excellent.

Review 4:Poor service in the restaurant. Waited 25 minutes to attract the attention of the waitress to give her my order for desert before leaving. Chalet style rooms providing modest accommodation for the price.

Review 5:Welcome was friendly and professional. Restaurant food was good..

Review 6:Bed wasn't very comfy. But loved the room.

Review 7:It was well laid out and was a lovely room. Breakfast was very nice and the décor everywhere was really nice and especially the Xmas decs and the outside lights were really pretty. Staff very pleasant.

Review 8:MY GROWN UP SONS HAD TO SHARE A SOFA BED - A TRIPLE SINGLE BED SET UP WOULD OF BEEN APPRECIATED BUT SADLY NOT AVAILABLE. A COMFORTABLE ROOM AND STAY ALL THE SAME .

Review 9:LOVELY BREAKFAST :)

Review 10:The staff were fantastic. We had to travel last minute with our dog and they could not do enough to help us. They looked after him and gave him a walk while we had to go to an appointment, providing service way beyond their remit.....wonderful people.

Review 11:Everything about the Boxmoor Lodge was great! It looked beautiful with all the Christmas lights and decorations. It was perfectly situated for our visit to the Harry Potter Warner Brothers studio tour. The staff were friendly and helpful. Our room was very clean and comfortable, warm, cosy and equipped with everything you could need. The breakfast in the beautiful conservatory was cooked to perfection. A very pleasant stay and will be returning again next year. Recommended on all levels.

Review 12:Booked this for a one night stay as part of my boyfriends birthday - brilliant location for if you're wanting a trip out to the Harry Potter studio tour. Staff were really friendly & welcoming - breakfast on the morning was lovely too!!

Review 13:Room was basic and bathroom dated. Location was difficult to find with sat nav. Breakfast times were early for a Sunday. Noise from adjAcent rooms, road, railway and from the function tent.

Review 14:Food was good

Review 15:Excellent lodge. V firendly and accomodating staff. Even offered separate rooms which was above and beyond! Highly recommended. 24hr bar is a bonus too

Review 16:All good

Review 17:WIFI fantastic and fantastic underfloor heating. Great location for Harry Potter tour, lastly huge hot breakfast and friendly staff well done.

Review 18:The smell of damp or mould in the downstairs lobby area of the block I was staying in ( Room 22)

Review 19:Friendly and helpful staff Plenty of parking Easy Access to rail & road links Comfortable bed

Review 20:The room was very warm. The put- up bed for our daughter was not very comfortable. We did not feel able to keep windows open being on ground floor

Review 21:Staff really friendly and welcoming. Good breakfast included in price. Convenient location for our purposes though not a pretty location.

Review 22:Nothing.

Review 23:Excellent location for a visit to Harry Potter World and Bletchley Park. Spotlessly clean, super room, friendly and helpful staff and great breakfast.

Review 24:Room was far too small ,as overseas travellers we had large Suitcases, there was no where to put them..ok if you had no luggage ...had to push the bed up against the wall to have some walking room, and space for suitcase ,,no chair.. Room was far too hot on arrival,,, fan didn't work. So had to open windows ,to cool the room to make it liveable..

Review 25:Lovely place to sray

Review 26:Unfortunately our room was located above the toilets of the function room, with the doors banging shut & the loud hand dryers in constant use till 12.30am and then being woken up at 6.00am with the sound of bottles being poured into the wheelie bin.

Review 27:Very Clean & Professional Hotel, Would be happy to recommend , despite the negative remarks.

Review 28:Didn't manage to turn off the radiator but I neglected to inform the management.

Review 29:The staff were very friendly & helpful. A charming venue with plenty of parking space

Review 30:The toilet was not cleaned well and smelled of urine . The housekeeping woman knocked on our door after 5 minutes of checking in and almost about to open the door with her key then the second day 1 hour before checking out she knocked on our door again .

Review 31:It is in a nice location if you re doing the grand Union canal walk - the breakfast was good .

Review 32:The rooms are dated and not what you would expect for £100 per night. The staff were only ok they did not greet you with a warm smile. The hotel is in a noisy corner

Review 33:Not a lot really, the breakfast was ok

Review 34:The breakfast sausages, yum! £75 for one adult and three kids maybe a little pricey. Lovely surroundings and staff were very pleasant. Overall stay was fine.

Review 35:Everything,friendly staff, especially Sian and Mark,The meals were fantastic, firstclass would highly recommend.Comfortable room, very clean, lovely location, would definitely recommend and come again.

Review 36:We stayed at the weekend and when asked what we want for breakfast there was no menu stating what we could have. apparently there's a menu during the week but not at the weekend.

Review 37:Beautiful setting.

Review 38:third persons fold down bed opened up in front of room door,

Review 39:great location for visiting warner bros studio tours london, 15 min drive away. breakfast was great and cooked to order. staff very helpfull and cheery especialy reception lady.

Review 40:The bathroom was damp and the shower curtain needing replacing. No Sky movies as advertised. No air con so the room was stuffy. Although breakfast was 'cooked to order' the congealed eggs had been sitting around for a while. Looking closely the general areas could do with a good clean.

Review 41:Location was ideal for our purpose as my husband needed quiet rest after hospitalization and the room was on the ground floor making ease of access

Review 42:very friendly. excellent breakfast. best of all Charlie the cat. he doesn't live here but is always about for a stroke and a cuddle, the most sociable cat I've ever met. adorable. makes it home from home

Review 43:We chose this hotel as it seemed an ideal location for our trip to the Harry Potter Studio Tour - and it really was ideal! The staff were very friendly and helpful, our family room had a lovely modern bathroom, the restaurant/breakfast room was a really lovely conservatory and the meal we ate in the evening was absolutely divine!

Review 44:We could not fault anything, full marks to everyone at the Hotel. We would recommend it to everyone.

Review 45:As we was going to see Harry Potter tour, the location was excellent. We travelled from the Midlands, we found the Hotel very easy, the staff was very help full and kind on our arrival. The breakfast was very good and set us up for our journey back home.

Review 46:I loved the fact that the room was in a separate building. Nice and quiet. The bath was huge, not your usual bird bath like travel lodge. I had sky sports in the room which I've not had even in the more expensive hotels. I had meetings in the evening so didn't eat there for dinner but the breakfast was very good with lots of choice. Free wifi and free parking. Spot on.

Review 47:The TV only had two channels with clear picture the other three were unwatchable. In the morning we had no hot water for shower or bath so the only option was to wash with the cold water or boil a kettle. At breakfast when the lack of hot water was mentioned they investigated and we were told that the boiler connecting to our room was switched off but no proper apology was given. Hair dryer was very old style connected to the wall on a stretchy cord. If you were mid way through drying your hair and let go of the button to brush your hair the dryer would cut out and not restart for at least 5 minutes which makes drying hair a slow process.

Review 48:The room was slightly dated but clean. Plenty of parking.

Review 49:Not a bad experience but the location is next to a noisy busy road, andthe breakfast bacon was of poor quality, tasted "piggy". Ishould have stuck with the cereal and lovely fresh fruit and notbothered with the cooked breakfast. Also the bathroom did not have aplug to dry hair - although it was nice and roomy.

Review 50:Lovely friendly staff, fantastic greeting by Monsieur. Nice room, very clean.

Review 51:Not once did they ask if we were ok, or make any kind of conversation. We had to ring and ask for tv control, and wifi password. The tv channels were not working as stated and as we were in the hotel from 6pm plus on both nights with a 5 year old it wasn't good. Needed updating, was spacious inside but it smelt old and there was dead spider and cobwebs behind the chair in room. I think the location and breakfast were fab but over priced. We didn't eat in restaurant on the night either as it was very expensive and nothing apart from chips for a 5 year old.

Review 52:Breakfast couldn't be faulted although on first day we stood quite a while waiting for the waiter to seat us, even though there was lots of empty tables. I heard him say where shall I put the ones with the kid, which I thought didn't sound professional. Lots of food choice and was all lovely.

Review 53:Reception staff were unfriendly and unwelcoming except for the young lady who was available at breakfast time. Breakfast a disaster, no menu for choices, which we would expect in a hotel!!! Sausages raw, mushrooms not much better, this left us very disappointed.

Review 54:Location was good for what we wanted. Room very clean and comfortable.

Review 55:Used to live in Hemel Hempstead so knew it had a good reputation. It was all I'd hoped for. Excellent breakfast and I am coeliac, gluten free cooked breakfast and roll provided. Very happy, hope to book again in Sept.

Review 56:Staff were friendly and welcoming Even though we had an issue with the room initially it was dealt with promptly and the maintenance guy came to help and resolve the problem on his day off. Breakfast was very nice and good quality product used.

Review 57:Breakfast at weekend seems to be crammed into 1hr so why the staff were so flustered that people kept coming in at the same time is laughable. There were tables that were vacated but not cleared and reset and it seemed to take an age to get things ordered. The breakfast was good but perhaps if they extended the breakfast times they may be able to satisfy the paying guests that seemed to be a problem for at least one member of staff. What do you expect when people book for B&B!!!

Review 58:nothing to dislike

Review 59:Everything about this hotel is good /close walk to the station and easy to get to by road its ideal for visiting Harry Potter studios as its only one stop away. Why pay rip off high corporate prices that doesn't include breakfast wifi and parking, London is only a half hour train journey too

Review 60:Room was too warm and only way to cool down was to leave full window open, which I was nervous about on ground floor. Shown to a table with crumbs/fresh tea stain at breakfast both days and no clean cloth offered. No kids' channel on TV. No member of staff smiled at us.

Review 61:Very tasty breakfast. Very convenient location.

Review 62:The staff were excellent, the room had everything we needed, the breakfast was very good and it was nice and quiet. The gardens around the property were very pretty.

Review 63:Road and rail noise, no pretty view although the hotel grounds were smart and clean.

Review 64:Friendly staff and excellent breakfast in a nice light dining room. The hanging baskets were very attractive in the grounds.

Review 65:Lack of facilities available on Sunday, lost our booking for Sunday lunch, so had to eat out. Room small, shower smaller. No air con.

Review 66:Good location, easy to find and park. Excellent breakfast V.good Wi-Fi service

Review 67:Reception and bar were closed when we got back from our meal at 9.30pm, yet the hotel information said that the bar would be open until 10.30pm. When we rang the number on the door however the staff member unlocked the bar and did serve us a drink. So, it was resolved, but better signage or information in the room would be better as we were worried about disturbing staff if they were off duty! Better reception/more channels on the television.

Review 68:The staff were friendly. The room was very clean. There were extra pillows available and a fan. The breakfast was really lovely with lots of choice.

Review 69:Room was not very clean, lots of cobwebs and dust around. But the bedding was lovely and clean and the bin was emptied every day

Review 70:Breakfast was lovely, the reception staff were amazing and a great help.

Review 71:Lovely staff on reception and at breakfast grounds lovely nice clean rooms just a lot of cobwebs and spiders inside and outside but other than that it's was really nice

Review 72:No anti-slip mat in the bath for taking a shower. Film channel not working. Unable to sleep with window open.

Review 73:Location to station. Well kept grounds. Neat tidy rooms.

Review 74:It was the hottest week of the year and there is no A/C at this hotel.

Review 75:Location, staff and hotel in general. Food was very good, and a short walk across the canal to a nice pub.

Review 76:ground floor.. Did not feel comfortable leaving big window open while in bed.. Room very warm

Review 77:Very friendly helpful staff... Accommodation clean and comfortable even though a little worn and dated... Definatly would book again.. Lovely grounds

Review 78:The signal on the TV was a little week and we couldn't get the film channel or channel 5. I didn't realise when I booked that there would be an early check in fee.

Review 79:The staff were lovely.

Review 80:The only thing is the walls are quite thin but only a problem if you have noisy neighbours!

Review 81:The breakfast was delicious and the food in the restaurant was superb! Location great and quiet considering how close the road is. Staff really welcoming and friendly, the place had a very homely feel.

Review 82:There was a pot of noise from the marquee below our bedroom window, but to be fair we both managed to fall asleep despite it.

Review 83:We thought it excellent value for money.

Review 84:It was unfortunate that there was a wedding reception right next to our room. Just one of those things, I suppose.

Review 85:We only stayed one night. The staff were all very helpful and friendly.

Review 86:Two glasses of wine for £14 was a bit steep.

Review 87:The room was very cosy and warming it felt like home. The staff was great and very sociable especially Cheryl.

Review 88:Nothing

Review 89:Excellent hotel and staff were faultless, nothing was any bother. The room was fab and breakfast was out of this world. We also had evening meal at the hotel which was faultless. 5 star service. And staff.

Review 90:The shower holder in the bathroom had obviously been glued back together after a previous break and it broke again when I was using it. Could do with being replaced rather than patched up!

Review 91:Staff were great and the hotel was excellent value for money.

Review 92:The hotel was peaceful and restful. Fellow guests were polite and aware of others. The service at table was very friendly and attentive to the needs of all

Review 93:Excellent meal in the restaurant - al fresco on a lovely summer evening. Great service all round. Lovely surroundings - beautiful flowers etc. in the courtyard. Breakfast was excellent too.

Review 94:Bathroom decoration tired and needs refreshing. Would love to see pretty curtains finish off these cottage style rooms.

Review 95:Location to Boxmoor Village is excellent. Public areas bright and clean, gardens well tended. Linen is first class, bed linen clean, bright white, and towels fluffy and bright white.

Review 96:Warm welcome. Excellent free wifi. Free parking. Comfortable bed Free toiletries. Coffee tea & biscuits in the room. Wonderful breakfast included in the price.

Review 97:We had a family room but it was a bit cramped for 4 and the wifi signal was very weak.

Review 98:We loved the food here, clearly this hotel is a local foodie destination. We had dinner and breakfast and the kids were catered for very flexibility.

Review 99:3 key things. If there is an event on in the nearby marquee expect a lot of noise - we had this 2 nights in a row till after midnight. Also, finding a parking space can be difficult when its busy. The number of TV channels is minimal - 5 main channels plus Sky sports channels. Finally, our room was left unlocked by cleaning staff with valuables in it, but staff didn't seem overly concerned by this.

Review 100:Excellent location near the common/canal and free parking - 5mins walk to rail station and frequent trains to London. Rooms were a reasonable size and the free wi-fi was appreciated, although furniture was a bit dated. Good value, especially with the inclusion of breakfast which featured a good choice of cold and hot items, cooked to order.

Review 101:Noise from a party that was on, but hey , if we were invited we wouldn't have mind...

Review 102:Nice room and fabulous breakfast. All you need for a short stay.

Review 103:Double-bed duvet size was a little small for 2 adults - shame as otherwise the bed was very comfortable and this would not out me off returning. Hopefully they will take note and provide wider duvets - hate fighting the missus for half the covers :)

Review 104:Spacious rooms with clean fresh bathroom. Courtyard annexe rooms make car access good for loading/unloading. Best Full English we have eaten for a while. Smiling friendly team.

Review 105:If I had to say anything the tv reception was a little poor but didn't effect our stay x

Review 106:Very comfy and friendly experience. Breakfast was amazing and rooms were very clean. Well worth the money x

Review 107:Excellent location for visiting Harry Potter. Rooms were nice and clean bathroom was well done. Staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was wonderful. Would certainly go again if we were in the area

Review 108:Quiet and comfortable room, easy parking, very good shower, very good breakfast, service attentive but not too intrusive, for me this time the walking-distance to the station was a key requirement. Would stay again.

Review 109:Older furniture and equipment in rooms, functioning but showing its age. Slow WiFi in my room - may not be the case in all.

Review 110:Very friendly staff, great breakfast and restaurant food. Comfortable and quiet rooms.

Review 111:The rooms were located away from the main reception, so perfect for a good quiet night sleep. I liked the well equipped bar with lounge even though we didn't have time to use it! Very pleasant dining room, couldn't fault the plentiful English breakfast.

Review 112:Bed a bit hard.

Review 113:Speedy check in and out, comfortable room, friendly and efficient staff, very clean, close to train station, powerful shower, amazing breakfast in lovely conservatory. Will stay there again.

Review 114:Duoble bed OK, but matress a bit "tired".

Review 115:Not too large, 25 rooms. Very good English breakfast. Good location, centres of Hemel and Berkhamsted easily accessible. Close to good walks on Boxmoor Trust land, and by Grand Union Canal.

Review 116:got to hotel at 9pm after finding directions unhelpful. restaurant was closed (fri night) given directions for 2 min walk to harvester and assured kitchen open (not true!) tv only has 4 channels and sky sports

Review 117:the breakfast which was included was fab!

Review 118:Although the decor was a little dates still cosy, TV didnt have the best picture, and due to us being downstairs we heard evey little noise from upstairs .. doors being shut etc

Review 119:The room was comfortable and clean, and the staff were friendly and advised on where we could eat etc, due to it being a sunday the restaurant was not open. The rooms were like little self contained flats, and had the perosonal touch that you dont get at places like travelodge and Premier Inn

Review 120:TV signal was very bad on channels 2/3, hot water tap was very, very hot

Review 121:Location, friendly staff, great food, calm surroundings, chalet style accomodation

Review 122:Not a major problem, but the room got very muggy at night and had to open tthe front window and also leave the bathroom door open with the bathroom window open to get some air.

Review 123:Room was comfortable and a good size. Shower and bathroom facilities were ggood, service good no complaints bar one.

Review 124:Not a lot!!

Review 125:This small privately run hotel is staffed by people who really care. You are treated with respect, consideration, friendliness and efficiency. I couldn't wish for a better place to stay.

Review 126:Bar prices were a bit of a shock!! But we are from Manchester - perhaps prices in general are higher in this area.

Review 127:Accommodation is excellent value for money and the staff are friendly and helpful.

Review 128:The tv system and some of the furnishings could do with an update.

Review 129:As always, the feeling of being a guest rather than just a customer. It is an attractive location. Quiet and I feel safe there.
