Reviews for The Windsor Trooper

Review 1:Stairs were a steep climb, tho there are ground floor rooms available.

Review 2:We found it easily. The staff were very friendly through out our stay. The secure car parking was a plus.

Review 3:Breakfast not available until 8am. As I was on business I needed to be out by 7:30. This was not clear when I booked and I did not find out until after I had paid the full amount. No alternative arrangements were offered. I asked that as I had paid for two breakfasts which I could not have perhaps one bar meal in the evening could be offered in return. This was not possible.

Review 4:Clean room, comfortable bed.

Review 5:Within easy walk of town, castle, shops and riverside, tidy breakfast, and free parking on a first come basis, on street free parking overnight till mid morning, metered in daytime.

Review 6:Nothing breakfast was great too. We loved windsor as a place to stay

Review 7:We had a fab time. It seems this site isnt working as it wont lat me select the smiley faces I would pick 4th or 5th smiley face for all for comfort, value etc

Review 8:Bit dark on walk from pub to rooms

Review 9:Rooms in a courtyard next to the pub , the pub had such a nice atmosphere , and was so welcoming for my cousin and I , we felt we could stay for a glass of wine (or 2)

Review 10:Could do with new pillows.rooms could do with a new carpet and lino in the bathroom.dining room in need of a good clean.very dusty cob webs everywere

Review 11:The breakfast was very good.the staff were very nice and very helpfull.

Review 12:the parkinng place space - availability nor always - was inconvenient at the very first night when we checked in - and made us find somewhere else - and as at this very first nught we were not used to "english" rules - we parked "somewhere else" incorrect ((( causing penalty ((( but after that - we were ok . and the space at trooper also was available !!! ))) Consireding this just like "experience" ))) ........

Review 13:the girl - I think Kolie - maybe the spelling is incorrect - sorry - she is just making the place ))) - veeeeery friendly and helpfull - thanks !!! All the other aspects are also quite good - the consequence place/money/needs ... the beer is just GREAT )))))))))))) We were living NOT just above the pub - that is why even on September 19 when England won in rugby - )))) - it was still VERY possible to sleep at night ))))) THANK you the trooper ))))

Review 14:The bed base was broken and the temporarily addressed by placing a large plank of wood under the mattress. This made the bed extremely uncomfortable to sleep on to the point that I ended up sleeping on the mattress on the bedroom floor. One of the worst nights sleep I've ever had and no form of compensation was forth coming.

Review 15:Location is convenient

Review 16:The parking was disappointing as the main reason for choosing. We didn't get a place so had to park in main shopping car park at £15 per day.

Review 17:Good sized bedroom and modern bathroom

Review 18:Only the early morning noise from the planes coming in to land at Heathrow, which can be offset by the closeness to that airport if you happen to be leaving from it as we were.

Review 19:The location was great, staff excellent, breakfast good, rooms good value and as a family the self contained unit was perfect with a lot more room than a regular hotel room. Plus there is some onsite free parking. Walking distance to the Castle plus a short drive to LEGOLAND, Hampton Court Palace, Ascot Racecourse and Go Ape adventure course in a nearby local forest.

Review 20:We were in room 7 and found it really very warm. Could not open the window. But there was a large fan there thank goodness.

Review 21:The staff were excellent and really friendly and the food was good. Really comfy beds.

Review 22:quite OK

Review 23:Nice address, not too far away from the historical center - all necessary things available -next to the pub, so quite, no noises (except for the planes)

Review 24:Facilities were tired, lamps didn't work, beds lumpy and weren't attached very well. Noisy with customers in beer garden and dogs barking.

Review 25:Staff were friendly and helpful.

Review 26:The staff were great. We had forgotten that we had booked room only, so when we turned up for breakfast the chef had already left. We were still offered breakfast, but we didn't want to put them out, so just asked for tea and toast. This they did for us and didn't charge us for it because of the "mix up", which was entirely our fault. Great service above and beyond. The car park was an added bonus in Windsor.

Review 27:Room no.2 which was small with no wardrobe just 1 coathanger on an 8" rail. Drawers smelt bad, couldn' t store clothes. Had to wait 15 mins in car park one morning as pub & restaurant hadn't opened.

Review 28:Shortish walk to castle, good breakfast.

Review 29:arrive early to get a parking space. directly on the landing path for Heathrow airport so no chance of a lie in. overall a good and friendly place to stay.

Review 30:good location, friendly and helpful staff, good sized room and facilities.

Review 31:The zip & link bed was uncomfortable as the join was too pronounced and I generally felt it was time for it to be replaced. No bathroom extract or the facility to open the window. Sound proofing could be better.

Review 32:The member of staff who welcomed us was very helpful & friendly.

Review 33:Shared a twin room with my daughter, unfortunately my bed was uncomfortable and dipped in the middle, my daughter's bed was fine. Would have liked orange juice option at breakfast.

Review 34:Very handy for the shops and attractions.staff helpful and friendly.

Review 35:Having arrived in Liverpool via boat at around 9pm to some shocking traffic on the M6, it seemed I was going to be arriving later than expected to the hotel. So I gave them a call to let them know I’d be later than the check in time I selected on the website of 10pm-11pm. First of all, there was no answer so I left it half an hour. When the lady finally picked up the phone, it was around 10.30pm, and she said ‘We close now, so there won’t be anyone to check you in. Also, I have had no notification of you being booked in’ despite the fact I’d provided card details via this website. It was incredibly hard to then find a free room that late at night. I’m not sure who’s at fault - Booking.com or the hotel, as there should never have been a 24 hour check-in selection.

Review 36:When I spoke to the landlady on the phone, she seemed nice.

Review 37:Bed was very uncomfortable .. Slanted into the middle .. Snapped all nails on one hand trying to open window which sprang down with force

Review 38:Good location to legoland

Review 39:Disappointed with accommodation. We thought we were booking a family room as we are a family of 2 adults and 2 children, instead we were given 2 separate rooms initially on 2 different floors, although this was changed to rooms next door to each other but both with double beds so we had to each share a bed with one of the children as they were too young to be in a room alone. Rooms were not particularly clean and towels were frayed and tatty. Also the card entered at time of booking was charged before we had even arrived even though booking.com website says that wouldn't happen. Windsor Trooper refused to allow us to cancel booking without charging us full price as we only booked the day before and didn't realise we had been given separate rooms until we rang them to check after booking

Review 40:The room was unclean, not safe for children, noise outside until 3am, room was boiling hot but having windows open meant really loud. Not for a family at all stay well clear unless you want your holiday ruined! The windows are floor level and open fully so a child could easily fall out.....there was a giant pin on the floor and the room in general was not clean. 2 of the sockets were cracked and very dangerous.

Review 41:Nothing

Review 42:The room was extremely hot, even with 2 fans going, which resulted in a poor nights sleep. Also, no one was around when we wanted to checkout in the morning so we had to leave the keys in the room as we had plans made.

Review 43:The pub was very nice and friendly.

Review 44:We booked a room for a family of 5. Unfortunately there were only enough beds for 4. Our 9 year old daughter had to sleep in the small double with my wife and I.

Review 45:The lady serving our breakfast was nice.

Review 46:The rooms could do with refurbish they didn't feel very clean. We woke to find slug trail all up the stairs and over our baby's pushchair. When eating breakfast there was slug trail all over the carpet which put us off our food.

Review 47:Booking.com doesn't make it clear they offer breakfast. Saw sign and went to ask in the morning. Was told breakfast needed pre booking - Shame on booking.com not the Windsor trooper!

Review 48:Good location, decent family room - little ones loved the windows. Good value for money. Lots of people in pub but room situated far away enough so not to disturb the children. Couldn't ask for more for money.

Review 49:Unfriendly, unwelcoming staff. They didn't welcome us and no information such as wifi and breakfast was giving to us at arrival. When we asked for info staff got rude. The rooms are very small . You have to watch the roof above your head. The toilet is between the two rooms. Not well maintained small apartment at the top of delivery room which you can hear the noise. Not comfy place to stay.

Review 50:The location

Review 51:Lovely, friendly staff. Location far enough away from central Windsor but close enough (less than 10 minutes walk) from all the bars, restaurants and sights. Serving great food and beer. Would stay again..

Review 52:Great location for legoland friendly staff and very helpful. Comfortable and all you need for a couple nights stay. Brilliant yummy food from the pub. Would definitely use again.

Review 53:None really, but we were in room 3 which is on the top floor, my wife and me are agile so it didnt bother us but definately a problem for older people or infirm

Review 54:Central location, car parking on site. Staff very helpfull and knowledgable about Windsor. Great Indian restaurant within 200 yds

Review 55:The staff were lovely and it was very relaxed. Nothing was too much trouble. Live music in the adjoining pub on Saturday night was an unexpected treat.

Review 56:Room was uncomfortably hot & due to small children unable to leave windows open. Didn't like carpet in bathroom

Review 57:Pleasant staff. Excellent location for legoland

Review 58:Inadequate lighting on stair well making this a fairly perilous exercise at night, reported, but they didn't bother to sort this out. Toilet would not flush, again reported but not sorted. This made the stay truly horrible. Hated the "couldn't care less" attitude.

Review 59:Not a lot.

Review 60:Breakfast has no veggie option and cereal etc not easily offered. We went to Monty's up the street,. Loads veggie options, friendly staff and welcoming cafe

Review 61:Good value room, basic but comfy.

Review 62:the washing machine didn't work, and we felt sometimes like a bit of a nuisance for arriving at the bar/desk, but overall it was lovely

Review 63:handy location, separate room for the parents, ability to make our own breakfast, good space.

Review 64:The mattresses and pillows were worn out and need immediate replacements. We could not open one window at all, it was very hot in a room (at the top). Someone who is very tall might find difficulties to move in that room (family room). If you are planning to stay with kids then i would definitely choose a different place to stay. Saturday evening very loud music till late hours!!!

Review 65:The location is good, 10 min walk to Windsor castle. Lots of restaurants, pubs and shops close by.

Review 66:Upgraded! to an apartment as was double booked. Double bedroom had no window only a small roof light. No means of escape in a fire other than through an upstairs window out of the second bedroom, Light switches extremely difficult to find. Electric shower was cold and both stand alone fans did not work. Doubt any of it complied with Local Authority Building Regulations. Would not return.

Review 67:Excellent breakfast

Review 68:Lack of parking is a bit of a problem. I parked behind the local college, which is available during the weekend.

Review 69:The room was very comfortable and clean.

Review 70:This is probably the worst paid accommodation we have ever stayed in. Don't expect that you will have parking. We had to park in the street and pay for parking around the neighborhood during the days we were there. the beds were unbelievably uncomfortable, mattress old and warped. The furniture was grimy and dirty. Many things needed repair eg the blinds, the washing machine (unusable) the shower door didn't close, many lights blown and the whole place needs a good clean or refurbishment. If you are very tall be aware that the door height is around 5'2". The staff don't seem concerned when I mentioned some of this to them. Look for somewhere else if at all possible as it is very poor value for money.

Review 71:The location is good, 10 min walk to Windsor castle.

Review 72:Its slightly `quirky`--but really local to the centre, with a great Indian right next door! Room even had a fridge--something you won`t often find in the big chains these days--and the beers good! Would definitely stay again--a tad expensive considering no breakfast, but then again, not by the standard charges being made in the area.

Review 73:No air condition in room left window open heaps of bugs flew in. There was no Fridge in room! Bed only had winter blanket which were not good as night were very hot.

Review 74:Close to shopping and restaurants. Friend bars staff.

Review 75:The mattresses were worn out and need immediate replacements. The choice at breakfast was poor and very basic. The beds were not made up properly. My wife came out in a rash on returning home. GP said it could have come from the bed.

Review 76:Not much.

Review 77:ok so the decor is a bit tired, but look past that & its a great place to stay, who honestly lives in a house that dosent need any work doing

Review 78:the breakfast ewas fab, the beds where very comfortable, rooms very clean, check in & check out very quick

Review 79:We are not sure if there was a party somewhere in the hotel or if themusic came from the pub below our room, but it didn't stop until3am!!!!! We didn't sleep at all and had to race the followingmorning. Not staying in the same place again.

Review 80:The hotel was close to everything.

Review 81:Bedroom floor wasn't very clean with a hair band and an empty chocolate wrapper under the bedside table

Review 82:Independent accommodation as we were taking part in the night ride and didn't get back til 5am so hopefully didn't disturb anyone! Close enough to walk into town but far enough away to be unaffected by any noise too. Bedding - fresh clean and very comfortable Price - a bargain!

Review 83:Not having somebody on the door - felt vulnerable being next to a noisy pub and only a Yale lock between. Not all the lamps worked. bed was two singles pushed together - not a proper double bed

Review 84:Very nice shower. clean warm

Review 85:Could do with updating but was comfy and clean. Could do with black out blinds.

Review 86:Comfy and spacious apartment for a family of 4. Facilities were good. Location was excellent.

Review 87:most of it

Review 88:we have stayed here before, but it's desperate for a refurbishment, a good clean sound proofing new beds blinds and curtains. With the poor beds and pillows the noise from the people upstairs ( who to be fair were only walking around their room) the customers in the pub it was a really unpleasant 3 nights sleep. There is aeroplane noise which was ok in comparison. It has the ability to be a gem but is obviously being worn into the ground. But it's a fab location on way into Windsor (10 min walk) with lots of good restaurants and bars on the way.

Review 89:The pillow were far too flat and uncomfortable. The wi fi did not work until several complaints to the management and after a 4 hour wait was up and running. The room was very cold and the radiator only worked in the bathroom. We were given an electric heater much later on in the evening. The bathroom light did not work if the bedroom lights were switched on.

Review 90:Very convenient position for shops and cafes

Review 91:It didn't bother us at all, but there is live music on weekends and you can hear it from the rooms. If you need silence to sleep, this isn't your place, but we enjoyed the energy.

Review 92:The staff was very helpful, the location is perfect for site seeing around Windsor.

Review 93:Parking was a little tight, but it was free so that's a good thing.

Review 94:Location was ideal for visiting the town and castle, within very easy walking distance.

Review 95:The door very low to the master bedroom. My husband always banged his head when coming and going out from the room.

Review 96:Has our own entrance door.walking distance to Windsor Castle.good value of money.

Review 97:I can imagine that the pub would be noisey/raucous on a weekend. We stayed on a Sunday night so it was quiet.

Review 98:The location was great, at the bottom of Peascod Street, St Leonards Road has some lovely shops. Quiet location. Fabulous value for money compared to other accomodation in Windsor.

Review 99:Well located, the room was very clean & had the amenities required. Didn't eat there so cannot comment on the food. Very popular pub and was busy. Car park is small, but we left our key with the staff, who, kindly moved it off the road for us.

Review 100:Didn't much like being at the top of three flights of stairs, nor having to go outside to be able to get to the rooms.

Review 101:The room and bar were nice and clean. The karaoke on Friday night was great fun.

Review 102:Room could have been cleaner radiator had coffee stains on and quilt cover had a boot mark on just really needed a good clean

Review 103:Location was good for centre

Review 104:Felt more 'utility' than 'luxury' TV remote control had been taken, and was not replaced during stay Recurring power cuts No telephone to contact 'Reception' - had to walk to pub each time

Review 105:Proximity to Town Centre Mini kitchen with fridge Really comfortable beds Plenty of room Plenty of fresh towels

Review 106:The toilet seat was broken, There were no pans, glasses, not enough mugs or cutlery. The curtains were ripped, the bed was uncomfy, the lights blew, No cupboards for clothes. No hanging space for clothes. The one cupboard in the bedroom was inaccessible and dark.

Review 107:My friends. The location

Review 108:very clean tidy modern rooms. Breakfast was hot well cooked. We arrived late so chose to eat there food was good. Cheerful friendly locals mixed crowd. Would definitely use again.

Review 109:Would definitely stay again, great value for money between 3 of us staying in the apartment. Could do with some updating / modernisation but was perfect for our night away and the staff were so lovely. Breakfast was yummy and such great value with the price of the room. We loved it! Pub had a disco and after our night out we came back to the pub to enjoy the music and drinks, such a fun night :-)

Review 110:Wish there was a bigger car park.

Review 111:Windsor Trooper is located conveniently in Windsor. Rooms were clean and well-maintained. Staff were friendly and efficient. Meals were delicious and great value for money.

Review 112:It was above pub , so there was loud music till early hours on the Friday & saturday! Would of liked some warning when booking about this!

Review 113:Spacious comfortable room!

Review 114:although the situation of the accomadation was what was expected i thought that the accomadation was far to small and definatly not worth what was charged, there was no television remote and the tele was only 8 inches below the ceiling the electric kettle didn,t work until you jiggled the wires about. The bed was only a foot away from the wall on one side, and to top it all there was a live rock band on under the room, won,t be stopping there again thanks

Review 115:It taking nearly 2 hours to check our contractors in as they couldn't find the booking that I'd made on booking.com

Review 116:Staff seemed friendly over the phone

Review 117:easy to sort out problem, sweep rubbish leaves and debris from front door of unit, would make all the difference, and only take a moment.

Review 118:location great, good value for money, would definitely go again.lovely big bed.

Review 119:Smoking area close to bedrooms. Only a problem until bar closed but a little noisy with chatter until then. Not rowdy though.

Review 120:Proximity to the main areas of Windsor including the Castle.

Review 121:walking distance to the centre of Windsor; close to shops, bars; The Windsor Trooper offers good pub food at cheap prices and is a popular evening spot with lots of atmosphere. The showers in the rooms are lovely, hot and powerful and the beds are VERY comfy after trailing around town all day. Breakfast is worth trying too - local produce, very tasty! We'll be back next year.

Review 122:When we arrived they had no record of our booking and seemed disorganised. After initially saying they thought they might still have a room for us they came back to say they were full. Fortunately they know the B&B owner across the road so we ended up going there which was fine for what we needed. Apparently this has happened before so my advice would be ring and speak to them after booking. Also we could hearthe disco from across the road on sat night so if you want somewhere quiet I wouldn't recommend it!

Review 123:Room too small, bathroom facilities poor. Had to phone hotel to get into property for breakfast as all locked up at 9.15am.

Review 124:Good location. Friendly staff.

Review 125:Not the impression I gained from the website photos. It was a pub that did accommodation. Parking limited. Décor and furniture pretty tatty - looked dirty. Accommodation was a separate entrance off the road. First hall light didn't work so groping around in the dark to get to next one. Room had the net curtains lying on the floor. No information book so had to go back into the pub and ask about WiFi. Food ok but very basic - in keeping with the pub. Breakfast didn't start until 8am and customers waiting around on pavement as the staff were late - didn't open up until 8.10. In spite of promising to provide an invoice didn't do so and had to dash as supposed to be in office at 8.

Review 126:Location

Review 127:Breakfast was a disappointment in that it took ages to get served even the basic tea/coffee option. There were few breakfasters present but service was really slow - something to do with the waitress also being the previous night's late night barmaid perhaps?

Review 128:I am familiar with "The Trooper" as a pub and the accommodation was as expected. A friendly welcome and early book-in of our luggage and provision of a room key even though the room was not due to be ready for some time was most helpful.

Review 129:poor service . checked in late . wasn't any offer of breakfast. just given key for room . no direction to room . I believe under new management. They need to get rid of barman with arrogant attitude .

Review 130:location

Review 131:Advertisement stated secure car parking. We had to park on the road - metered! No respite for Sunday either. Notice in bedroom about breakfast times on Sunday, but front door locked and no access advised. Fortunately a staff member came out a side door and took our keys.

Review 132:The room was well furnished, bathroom clean and all was obviously just renovated. Staff booked us in, did not explain that although it was booked as B&B one had to order breakfast separately, we left without breakfast.

Review 133:Needs more parking.

Review 134:It was a well appointed room. All you could ask was supplied. Staff very happy and helpful. Fantastic breakfast. Very close to Windsor center.

Review 135:Checked with the staff on Sat. morning what times meals would be served in the evening. We were told 6pm until 9pm. We got back at 8.30, went to the bar to say could we order food, but was told "no we've closed the kitchen early" I did advise the member of staff that we had checked food times after we ate breakfast. The response was "well I wasn't working this morning and I decided to close early".

Review 136:Everything was good as indicated in the q/a above. We have stayed at The Trooper on two previous occasions and would always go back.

The Fine Print

Parking is on a first-come, first-served basis.
