Reviews for Achnabobane Farmhouse
Review 1:Breakfast focused on cooked meats and usual fried things which was disappointing having given 3 days' notice of not requiring cooked breakfast. This should mean decent bread and fruit as an alternative. Only boring packet cereals available, although yoghurt was nice enough. So many notices around everywhere about 'do this and don't do that', almost felt like I was in a strict bording school.
Review 2:Nice, comfortable room and fabulous view from window.
Review 3:Not noted pior to arrival the removal of shoes. Overshoes could of been provided or notification of house rule
Review 4:Excellent Breakfast, excellent views and dog friendly
Review 5:It will be nice to have an attached bathroom.
Review 6:The quiet, cosy, clean and beautifully decorated bedroom. The friendly and accommodating host. The nicely prepared home cooked hot breakfast.
Review 7:Lovely farmhouse that is out of the way of towns and lovely and quiet. Beautiful view of the surrounding mountains from bedroom window. Good proximity for hiking up Ben Nevis. Run by a lovely friendly gentleman.
Review 8:Is a farm house but no actual farming done. Rooms are small.
Review 9:Very quiet location but need vehicle. No public transportation. One-man owner is very pleasant and makes great full English breakfast.
Review 10:I really didn't like his attitude towards his guests and feel he puts the guests 2 to his dog For example we were told his dog makes a mess outside so we have to take our outdoor shoes off! 2.Breakfast will be between 8 and 8-15 is that caring for his guests NO 3 Hate sauces that are in sachets you get it all over your hands 4.the toilet upstairs is so tiny I was catching my knees on the opposite wall 5Plaese don't make a mistake ta not filling in your breakfast form properly For £72 for single room was by far the most expensive and certainly not the best we stayed in.I knew I had made a bad mistake on arrival when Neill said lets talk about the ground rules instaed of saying welcome to ... If you have any doubts just say Gloucestershire is gods county not the true one Yorkshire

Review 12:Neil is a great host, he's very helpful and friendly. His homely and comfortable farmhouse is in a breathtaking countryside (the view - WOW!!). The homemade and freshly prepared Scottish breakfast (new-laid eggs!) gives you a perfect start to explore this wonderful part of Scotland. I felt very welcome at every moment of my stay. Thank you very much! Best wishes, Monika
Review 13:Neil made a wonderful breakfast! We had the breakfast there: fresh eggs from his chickens, self made sausages, ... The rooms were clean and perfect and we were happy to get "home" to them. Neil, Thank you also for your stories.
Review 14:it will be better if check in time could extend to 10pm. Because most of time, mobile phones can hardly get signals in highland.
Review 15:tidy and comfort rooms, owner's dog is cute and friendly. it is great to have a basin in every room
Review 16:Can't think of a thing--other than we only had time for a one night stay.
Review 17:Enjoyed meeting the host and visiting with him. Enjoyed the view from breakfast room.
Review 18:Breakfast timing was very early, if you are in holiday you don't want to get up so early. 7 miles town centre need to go for food both way 14 miles.
Review 19:It is nice and quiet area. Breakfast is very good.
Review 20:The owner is friendly and knowledgeable about the local area and is used to guests of all nationalities. Breakfast was great, good choice and good quality.
Review 21:Reprimanded for arriving late, though we had emailed to say our arrival would be after 7 pm. Not quite the Highland welcome we anticipated, shall we say!
Review 22:Very good location
Review 23:The owners excellant knowledge and history of the area and the best roads to take to see the very best of the Scottish Highlands. Will definately stay again
Review 24:Myself and friend we're mountain bike racing at Fort William so the location was ideal. Louise (owners daughter) was extremely welcoming and very helpful.
Review 25:Stopped over one night on our way to Skye . Owner poorly and unable to provide cooked breakfast so would of been nice if they offered a reduction .wouldnt have accepted it but the gesture would have been appreciated! No problem with our two dogs over all reasonable !
Review 26:The owner of the property is friendly and will do anything he can to make your stay enjoyable. We admire his determination to continue offering a good standard of comfort in difficult circumstances, and wish him all the best.
Review 27:Where do I start. A few bullet points - the owner, adcting as the main staff, was downright unfriendly - unlike specified in the booking, the B&B was unable to provide cooked breakfast on one of the days. Yet there was no compensation offered for this and we still had to pay the same price - for breakfast one hado t be present between 8am and 8.15am (yes, 15 minutes slot) - unbelievable! - there was a strong reflector practically shining into our window, and the blackout curtains were not big enough so let a lot of light in around the edges - really disrupting sleeping! - lounge was actually closed at any time outside of breakfast, so nowhere to relax and just locked up in the room - even though we had a room for double occupancy only, as booked on booking.com, we had to pay a full price for 3 people even though this was specifically advertised as option for double occupancy Overall, I would really not recommend this taking unless you have no other choice in Fort William or in the area
Review 28:There is a nice view from outside of the window and the place is within reasonable distance from Fort William
Review 29:The owner was obnoxious and rude. Could not offer full breakfast but still charged for it and added a credit card charge even though we were paying by debit card.
Review 30:breakfast was not what we expected and had paid for but no concession given on cost of stay. Also, when we booked it was said that the 3 person family room(s) (at extra cost) was all that was available. When we arrived, they were still advertising vacancies and we were the only guests apart from one other couple. Only one hard dining chair to sit on in our rooms, hardly comfortable.
Review 31:very dog friendly
Review 32:We should have paid heed to the negative reviews before we booked this. Even then we were not prepared for a poor excuse for a continental breakfast which should have been a full breakfast. The title words were Neil's when we asked to cancel our second nights stay due to a completely unwelcoming experience, the breakfast being the last straw. We would certainly not recommend this place to anyone.
Review 33:Nothing.
Review 34:booking.com site does not state that due to bad health the proprietor cannot provide cooked english/scottish breakfast. You get cold ham and cheese and plenty of excuses why they charge full price and deliver a sub standard service. You will arrive to an A4 on your bed detailing the proprietors recent cancer problem (nice) and hope you understand that is why you pay for you dont get. If you do book ring through first and check the shower works upstairs. This guy knows full well that it is not fit for purpose but still takes bookings. Disgusting. He is not fit enough to run this business properly so for his own sake should close and reopen when well and stop ripping off guests. Sole proprietors should protect there business with critical illness cover. That would have solved all issues. Im sure the car is insured but he failed to insure himself! Crazy. Oh and the Cockerell will wake you at 4am ish then on the hour. Avoid!
Review 35:View from the window.
Review 36:I didn't see anywhere on Booking.com that there was a charge for using debit cards. Nor did the host alert me to this. Maybe I missed it but perhaps it should be more prominent
Review 37:location great, wonderful views, friendly host
Review 38:lack of places to put things in room and bathroom-ie hooks, chair
Review 39:lovely setting and views, entertaining pets, good and generous breakfast, hospitable host, helpful signage
Review 40:Sharing a bathroom with strangers (my fault for not reading carefully). Very flat pancake pillows.
Review 41:Nice room, lovely location, spotlessly clean! Folded napkins, attention to details, working farm of great interest to us. Scottish gentleman host was fun to talk to.
Review 42:A little bit overpriced in my opinion and his rules are a bit strange !!
Review 43:Good Location if your climbing Ben Nevis , comfy beds and kept clean. Ps, the owners barking mad lol !!
Review 44:No complaints
Review 45:Achnabobane Farmhouse is a very pleasant change of pace to the normal b&b in the city. Neil, owner and farmer runs a clean, comfortable and very quiet establishment just outside the small village of Spean Bridge a good stop if traveling to or from Fort William. As he explains on arrival, it is a working farm and asks that you leave your shoes inside by the front door and I am amused at the number of reviews by people who complain about this...get a life! If you want good quality accommodation for a good price then Achnabobane is a good contender.
Review 46:Not a lot
Review 47:Really relaxed, casual, bit like being at home Neil was very helpful, friendly, accommodating and very entertaining. Breakfast was great in all very value for money
Review 48:Plumbing needs to be improved it was tricky to get a good flow from the shower.
Review 49:Ideal location. Good breakfast ideal set up for a walk up Ben Nevis. Easy to find. Secure car parking.
Review 50:Being "told" to present for breakfast at 8h00 along with the other 7 guests and then in addition to having to wait for poorly cooked breakfast, having to queue for the single toaster and the single milk jug. Tinned fruit (peaches) and jams etc in sachets did not give a "farm breakfast" experience.
Review 51:Cleanliness. View of mountains from dining room
Review 52:It took a little bit of patience to figure out the shower faucets to get the water temperature quite right. But otherwise a perfect stay
Review 53:The gentleman who owns/runs the farmhouse showed great hospitality and kindness. I needed a ride back to the start of a trail, and he was generous to give me a lift so I wouldn't have to pay for a taxi ride. Very warm and open!
Review 54:This is a charming farmhouse run by Neil, a friendly and warm host. The rooms were spotless and the view of the mountains from the window was simply breathtaking. A sumptuous breakfast included homemade sausages and homemade whisky marmalade. Add to it a menagerie of animals, including a friendly dog and assorted chickens and sheep made for a very relaxing stay. Will book again next time I am in the area.
Review 55:Nothing. (Except I forgot to ask Neil for some fresh eggs before leaving- ended up having to go buy some from a supermarket. But that's myown fault.)
Review 56:* The location - very easy to find and very well sign posted. You cannot miss it.* the host - Neil is a fantastic host, very friendly and helpful. Couldn't fault him. * the dog - soo cute! * the breakfast - delicious and a large choice to choose from! Oh and the marmalades are fantastic. And the fresh eggs from the hens in the garden. (You can even take some eggs back home with you!). * the room - We stayed in the Family room, which has an ensuite bathroom. warm, very clean, comfortable beds, hot shower. can't fault it. And the wifi worked very well in the room. the view - we could have seen Ben Nevis hadn't it be hiding behind the clouds.
Review 57:Not en suite, but this would have been difficult given the nature of the building.
Review 58:Very friendly proprietor. Good location in relation to mountains (I was there to climb) and evening eating places. Easy to find. Nice breakfast. Excellent mountain views.
Review 59:Nothing
Review 60:We arrived late in the afternoon and the owner booked a table for us in a local restaurant! The guest house was very clean, smelled lovely and the breakfasts were very good. Neil was very helpful about ft he area and the best routes to travel. We had a really good time there :)
Review 61:For price, and comparing it to the b&bs we stayed in later in our holiday, it wasn,t good value. No ensuite and a strict breakfast time (8-8.15), made me thankful for the sink in the room. Sorry don,t do shared showers, but my fault for not checking, expected 3* to be totally ensuite. Used my own towel for fear I would get make-up on it and be charged for it: I'm pretty sure replacement towels are legitimate business expenses. Taking off your shoes when surely you could just check your soles! Being expected to leave detailed card info on sheet in hall for all to see. We were aware that the host was a widow, we felt he was just trying to manage best he could, but from previous reviews it seems that these issues arise again and again to no avail, so it is probably useless to tell him to lighten up a bit. However others seem very happy with this accommodation, it is after all entirely subjective.
Review 62:hospitality tray, mint on towel, clean, available nightcap, comfortable bed, dog friendly, lovely views
Review 63:The fact that we had to share a small bathroom and separate toilet with two other couples
Review 64:Friendly host who gave us good advice for our sightseeing, beautiful surroundings, great breakfast and a comfortable large room with large enough TV
Review 65:No room for cases in room, no seat in room. Maybe our room was smaller than the others.Toilet needs to be enlarged.
