Reviews for Smiddy House & Russell's Restaurant
Review 1:This little hotel gave us during three days a most wonderful experiense. So many good things to say about the stay. The welcoming by Robert in the door promised already at that time that this stay would be great. We don´t know how to make people understand how delightful the dinners were. Everything was most beautifully presented and the taste in the starters and the maincourses brilliant. Not a bit of a mistake anywhere. The sittingroom was very relaxing with beautiful furniture and soft jazzmusik in the background. If we should mention one not that good thing about the hotel was the size of the room but the beds offered very good sleeping during the nights. And as we were there for stalking it didn´t matter, the mountains gave us space enough! And the breakfasts! One warm croissant immediately served at the beginning and then different special courses every morning among the sausages, eggs, bacon etc. So thank you Robert and thank you Glenn for unforgettable stay!
Review 2:Although spotless, our room was quite small.
Review 3:The host Robert was lovely and the food was the best we had in Scotland. Great location for exploring the surrounding area.
Review 4:Loved the two bedroom cottage. Beds very comfortable. Lush thick towels and lots of them. Great soaps and hand lotion. Robert and staff friendly and helpful.
Review 5:The manager, Robert, and the chef Glen were very welcoming and hospitable and the menu selections were just wonderful. We felt we had known them for years. Thoroughly recommended.
Review 6:The rain!! However it held off long enough for us to do a lovely walk which was recommended by Robert the owner!!
Review 7:Very comfortable with lovely touches such as highland soap toiletries. Cottage was quaint very cosy and a wee home away from home! Owners lovely and chatty and very hard working!!
Review 8:We were a bit large for the double bed, but then that's our own fault!!
Review 9:Everything. The owners go above and beyond to be helpful. Even offering us a lift in to Fort William if we needed it.
Review 10:No a problem for me but some guests may find the location, at a road junction, a bit noisy at times.
Review 11:Excellent accommodation, superb food and no effort too much to make my stay comfortable.
Review 12:While the house and rooms were beautifully decorated space for luggage in the room was manageable but a bit tight
Review 13:Robert was the ultimate host making you feel so welcomed and comfortable. The tea served in the sunroom upon arrival was particularly nice and the restaurant food was top quality.
Review 14:Smiddys was an amazing experience. Rooms were top quality and the restaurant food was just superb. Better than all of this though was the friendliness and personality of the hosts. It was a joy to meet and get to know both. Robert was an outstanding 'front of house' and his stories and anecdotes were hilarious. We arrived as guests and left as friends. Cannot recommend Smiddys mose highly.
Review 15:This is the best B&b I have stayed at. Robert is a fantastic host and Glen an excellent chef. The whole experience was first class! Thanks guys x
Review 16:Our room was a little small but very clean and comfortable.
Review 17:Food outstanding in quality and presentation. Service excellent. Staff very friendly and helpful.
Review 18:This was a fantastic place to stay, really fabulous hosts, very welcoming and helpful! Lovely rooms, just a shame we couldn't spend longer in them!
Review 19:There is nothing to dislike about The Smiddy & Russell's Restaurant.
Review 20:The Smiddy and Russell's Restaurant is a fantastic guest house, we had wonderful welcome from Robert, the food was fantastic, and the whole house was immaculate, we had a lovely stay didn't want to leave.
Review 21:Rooms are a wee bit small, but everything was very comfy and spotlessly clean.
Review 22:The Host with the most - so attentive. Made us feel so welcome after a long drive to get there. The food was also very good indeed. Tremendous breakfast - I had to roll out of there in the morning... :)
Review 23:We only stayed for four night! We couldn't take Glen, the head chef, home with us to cook for us!
Review 24:The friendliest and most professional service. Nothing was too much trouble. The food was most definitely the best for miles, quality fresh local produce.
Review 25:Nothing! The whole experience was very positive. We will be back!
Review 26:We liked everything! We stopped off on our way to Skye and I would highly recommend it. From the minute we arrived until the minute we left it was a fabulous experience. The Smiddy house has a great atmosphere. Very relaxing, cosy and friendly. The food in Russell's restaurant was wonderful. The owners are doing a great job.
Review 27:Slightly noisy room being on a main road.
Review 28:A welcome of cake, sherry and hot chocolate in their new garden room. Our room had every luxury and there was a good modern shower room. The evening meal in Russel's Restaurant was superb - the best meal we had during our week's holiday. Breakfast of smoked salmon and scrambled eggs was all we could fit in after the evening before. Altogether a lovely finale to our trip.
Review 29:Find it difficult to think of anything
Review 30:Wish we were staying longer, our room not huge but adequate. Beautiful décor lovely finishing touches and what you expect from 4star. Any requests were met and remembered which I have found sadly rare on our many weekend trips in UK Food excellent, will be back.
Review 31:The only thing we did not like was having to leave!
Review 32:We arrived earlier than the proper check-in time but were greeted by Robert and upgraded to the Smiddy House. The accommodation was luxurious and we were very pleased with everything. The breakfasts were fantastic and we ate each evening in the restaurant as well. The menu and cooking were superb. We could not recommend this establishment too highly.
Review 33:Russell's restaurant was fantastic. We loved the food and the excellent service. After being on the road for the day, what a place to come home to. We were very pleased with the room and also the quality of furnishings. Dinner was exceptional and we wished we had booked for a longer stay.
Review 34:I didn't get any sleep the first night as the mattress was worn out and I fell out of the bed. The Mattress was replaced with a new one the next day, we were given a nice card a bottle of wine & some chocolates. The standard double bed is to small for me so I didn't get much sleep the second night. The room was small but I think a king size bed would fit in. The smallest TV I have seen in a room. Having said that I would recommend staying at this guest house, if your comfortable in a standard double bed.
Review 35:Robert and staff made us feel very welcome. Russell's restaurant, the food & service were excellent with a warm friendly atmosphere. Room was very clean with plenty of attention to detail. Location for walks on Ben Nevis was good.
Review 36:Nothing to dislike except we didn't stay longer.
Review 37:The moment you arrive you are made very welcome and everything is done to ensure you have a wonderful stay at this great place.
Review 38:Didn't find fault with anything
Review 39:We were upgraded to the cottage which was so relaxing. And as for the food - superb. Breakfast left no room for lunch and dinner will be hard to beat
Review 40:The room was quite small, but the quality of the food and service more than made up for it
Review 41:The standard of the food and service in Russell's restaurant was faultless
Review 42:Didn't like leaving . . . LOL
Review 43:Food - amazing Breakfast - astonishing Room - great Cleanliness - faultless Everything else - superb Possibly the best B&B and evening meal ever, the steak was the best, I could go on but this is a truly great place to stay, if in the Spean Bridge area. Absolute Quality!
Review 44:The front bedroom is very compact with little storage. We stayed 3 nights so they moved us to a slightly larger room. The sleep was only fair as the weather was very warm and despite a fan being providedwas still difficult to sleep.
Review 45:There was lots of choice for breakfast. The usual cooked breakfast, lovely fresh fruit salad, pancakes and lots more. The evening meals seem a little expensive but quality is very good. The bedrooms are nicely decorated and very clean. The pillows are nicely plump.
Review 46:The bed was a bit small, but the room had everything in to make our stay enjoyable.
Review 47:As soon as we arrived we were made to feel at home,A welcome drink with lovely cake, and a glass of sherry to start the short break in Smiddy. House. The restaurant was exceptional, staff very helpful, with food to die for!! we will be returning ASAP.
Review 48:A very warm welcome from the proprietor set the tone. Excellent, spotlessly clean accommodation with plentiful white fluffy towels and gorgeous Scottish toiletries. Superb dinner and even better breakfast. A highland gem
Review 49:We stayed for five nights. The location is central to the western coast and an excellent base for touring. Robert and staff could not be more attentive, we were made to feel completely at home. The food was excellent and served promptly. We have never stayed somewhere where we were treated with such sincere kindness and courtesy. We would strongly recommend this facility to all.

Review 56:Lovely B&B with cozy rooms and outstanding breakfast ('Royal Eggs' special). Restaurant is on the pricy side, but the food served there is worth it.
Review 57:I already mentioned. And the location at a crossroad is not optimal.
Review 58:Very friendly reception, nice interieur, good beds and bathroom, but rooms a bit too small, you hardly can place your luggage. The restaurant is very good, has excellent cuisine.
Review 59:Not a single complaint — and we can be fussy.
Review 60:We were immediately made to feel at home by the co-owner, Robert, when we arrived at this beautifully maintained hotel. Our room was immaculate and comfortable, the food served in Russell's exceptional. We only wish we had been staying more than one night.

Review 62:It was a rare combination of modern facilities and home-style spirit that gave you a comfortable feeling that you've come for a family reunion. Review 80:In case of dinner the mandatory 2 course menu for the property guests makes it a little underwhelming.
