Reviews for Sir Christopher Wren Hotel & Spa

Review 1:It would be great if you wouldn't need to go through outdoors to get to the sauna, it was heavily raining, so wasn't very pleasant. Also, we were told that for NY Day the breakfast was joined with brunch and therefore cost £20pp. It was a good, but regular size breakfast though, which made us feel that the hotel management decided to make use of the occasion and make more money by charging a bit of a rip-off for breakfast.

Review 2:Great location of the hotel, clean, good facilities, very comfy bed. The check out was extended till 1.30 pm as it was New Years Day, so was lovely to be lazy for a bit longer and sleep in.

Review 3:The staff were very helpful and nothing was too much trouble. Easy walking access to Windsor and Eaton. Nice room and all facilities available for our stay. A good nights sleep and a very pleasant overall stay.

Review 4:Heating in room 020 was a mystery It either blasted out very hot or cold air, with the smallest of adjustments it was a long way to the bedroom - lots of stairs and no lift.

Review 5:Located in a very central position, easy walking to either Windsor center or Eaton. Excellent masseuse in hotel spa, also a well equipped gym. Food in restaurant was faultless Cosy lounge with fire

Review 6:The room was un a separate building and no clear indications were provided. Additionally there are no elevators and stairs are quite narrow. We did help old people to go through the stairs.

Review 7:Location was nice and when requesting a silent room it was provided.

Review 8:young inexperienced staff, a used condom on the floor of our room, no free parking, moved to a room with massive industrial air vent noises. We got 10% off for one of if not THE worst hotel experience we have ever had.

Review 9:Central location

Review 10:The hotel is tired. We also had a poor experience with a waitress who was very rude when we pointed out my wife's glass of champagne was flat. It was a bit of a rabbit warren!

Review 11:The bar and location

Review 12:Location is great.....beside the Thames with both Windsor and Eton beside the hotel so a great many restaurants to choose from. It is a magical place to stay around Christmas time

Review 13:Being in the Annexe instead of the actual hotel. Very noisy with late night revellers.

Review 14:Lovely hotel, room and staff. Food in restaurant was amazing.

Review 15:The bed had a rip in the sheet, and the headboard kept banging on the wall each we Moved. Ended up putting a towel behind. Couldn't open the window for fresh air. Didn't expect this in a top end hotel. Couldn't get the wifi either.

Review 16:The location was amazing

Review 17:Room was cold and the heating was a fan assisted unit, which was quite noisy at times so did not sleep too well.

Review 18:Welcoming and friendly staff. Very helpful and good customer service. Lounge areas. Great location, minutes walk to Windsor Castle and main shopping area.

Review 19:The bar got a bit noisy in the early evening with a black tie do waiting to go in to dinner.

Review 20:Very nice. Perfect location, excellent, professional staff, well appointed rooms, breakfast overlooking the river.

Review 21:Poor service on Saturday night when the hotel was busy, only one person in the bar making cocktails. Couldn't get a drink, let alone food. Decided to go somewhere else. However excellent service recovery from the Reception team.

Review 22:Excellent, friendly staff, particularly on reception. A lovely meal on Sunday evening when the hotel was much quieter (thank you Ortan!).

Review 23:We had to wait 10 minutes to check in at 6pm only one person working reception. I would have thought 6pm a reasonably busy time but the receptionist did not call for extra help. The room was in an annex across the road this was unexpected and as it was raining not at all welcome. The noisiest night I have experienced in a hotel. People in the room above walked around for what seemed most of the night resulting in a lot of thudding and creaking and we could hear their conversations clearly! The metal stair case outside of our room made it very noisy during the evening and early miorning as people checked in and out. Oddest of all was the toilet located in a wet room which meant the toilet and floor got a soaking after every shower. I had to wipe the place down so we could use the facilities without getting wet!! It was an accessibility room but I am not sure a disabled person would enjoy the wet room set up any more than we did and the shower controls were not at all easy to turn.

Review 24:The room was comfortable and clean. Bath robes and bottled water were useful. Room service food was good . Great location for sightseeing in Windsor and the valet parking came in useful.

Review 25:We stayed at Riverside the 1st time, didn't like it, too noisy. This time we were in the actual hotel, the room was lovely, comfortable and clean, Our favourite Windsor hotel. Well recommended.

Review 26:The

Review 27:As above.

Review 28:We were put in a ground floor room in the annexe, room was lovely and clean, but very loud with late night revellers up until 4.00am, due to its location.

Review 29:None.

Review 30:We have stayed here before, lovely building, location fantastic, great feel to your stay, food in the restaurant fantastic...Staff in the restaurant brilliant, and fun....Will come back for another visit...

Review 31:Some places in the hotel can be a little old and tired

Review 32:Staff are wonderful and very helpful. Nothing is too much trouble and were a great help to us checking in early when we arrived from Australia

Review 33:beautiful room staff were fantastic and so helpful great location for all the sites in Windsor and on the river as well what a bonus just to add the parking facility was perfect left the car safe and sound for all of our stay

Review 34:building is of course old and thus sometimes a bit noisy, especially, like I was, in the back next to the parking lot.

Review 35:Great location, nice staff, perfect gym

Review 36:The fact that breakfast was not included in the price was disappointing. The prices of the restaurant were rather high, so I dined out.

Review 37:The location was perfect. The staff courteous and helpful. The room clean and well appointed.

Review 38:Unfortunately, I made a mistake and booked the wrong night. Not only did they charge me for the wrong night but they charged more for the night we did stay and didn't even offer breakfast! And, we went up the back stairs and next to the service entrance to our room. Not very good experience at this hotel!

Review 39:The hotel is in a nice area of Windsor and close to everything.

Review 40:Room very ordinary, opposite a night club so noisy Saturday night (and early Sunday morning when it sounded like bins being emptied),bed too hard, poor quality bed linen, shower didn't work properly.Grossly overpriced for what it was.

Review 41:Location to the station.Main building nice and staff friendly.

Review 42:I was given a first floor room, for 175£, overlooking the parking lot in the back of the hotel. There was no A/C and when I opened the window, to air out the room, it smelled of car pollution and I could hear the jets taking off from Heathrow close by. There were no curtains on the bathroom window, just see through window fixings, so no privacy. Hotel staff kindly hung a sheet over the window for me. Avoid room 51 at all cost.

Review 43:Location was excellent.

Review 44:Very old , old hotel spread in 3 annexes , small rooms. Could do with some updating.

Review 45:Location is just great on top of the river and just a short walk from the Windsor castle. Very polite staff.

Review 46:The room was over stated advertised as a whole lot more glamorous than it was small and really not worth the money

Review 47:The location of the hotel was perfect for the stay next to the river with a lovely terrace two minutes walk to the castle

Review 48:The staff was great. There are lots of rooms but some have steep stairs to get to them. Overall a very nice place to stay and a wonderful location! Minutes from Windsor Castle and nearby Eaton College; close enough to Oxford which was our next destination.

Review 49:We loved the location, the hotel is situated on the river ... well actually there is an annex across the street. You might want to request the river view, the room was lovely and the views and sunset were amazing! Windsor Castle was a very short walk away.

Review 50:Very difficult to find the hotel car park - no clear signage. Once in and parked it is very difficult to figure out how to get out - again no clear signs. Breakfast is very average. Asked for poached eggs on toast and was told to make my own toast which is bizarre. Once the eggs arrive, you queue to make your own toast and the eggs are then cold.

Review 51:Good location and wifi.

Review 52:Staff were very friendly and efficient, we were originally given a room outside of the hotel but as I was on crutches they changed this without us asking for a room inside. Location was excellent and would definitely recommend it

Review 53:the room was of poor standard had no air conditioner as stated on the webpage water pressure was poor lamps didn't work they came and replace the globs no lifts. room was on 2nd floor so had walk up all those stairs

Review 54:the staff were great

Review 55:The room was separate from the hotel, so we had to walk in the rain to the facilities, and it didn't feel like a hotel experience.

Review 56:Really big bed and nice location

Review 57:Room was clean and had all facilities Bathroom was large and included bath and large shower Bed was big and very comfy Views of the Thames and Windsor Castle

Review 58:It`s a bit pricey considering you have to pay an extra £16 for breakfast and £15 per day for car park. This should all the included in the rate.

Review 59:Excellent location, very helpful staff

Review 60:Location was brilliant and we took the water taxi to the race course which was right outside hotel. Adam on reception was very friendly, cheerful and helpful. Thank you

Review 61:Unfortunately the room was very small, we couldn't get in to the bars as there was a wedding on. The room was also very hot no ac and quite scruffy. No impressed!

Review 62:The staff were lovely

Review 63:old bathroom with cracks in the bathtube, shower head could not be fixed, little and cold water only. ventilation not working. prepayment upon arrival neccessary

Review 64:No Parking but it only cost £6.00 at the train station for Saturday and Sunday

Review 65:Staff were very accommodating to my need of milky coffee and not those silly cartons they leave in your room. Asked for some milk at the reception and I was asked if I would like the jug warmed up - that's a first! Very good service and a lovely hotel.

Review 66:Lack of carparking, however does have designated car spaces in a near by NCP parking

Review 67:Location was excellent. In centre of town and close to all sites and good restaurants

Review 68:Awful room on top of a wedding party, very noisy until early hours, had to move at 12am. Not a very nice breakfast, all very cold.

Review 69:Nice location. Rooms were ok.

Review 70:The room was absolutely tiny, not really what you'd expect for the price. We were glad to only be staying fir one night.

Review 71:Fantastic location and generally a very nice hotel.

Review 72:The room was a little hot, the shower not very powerful and although the bed was super wide it was a little short.

Review 73:The location was perfect to explore Windsor. The staff , especially the consearge were helpful, friendly and polite. The riverside terrace was particularly lovely for drinks at sunset.

Review 74:Our room was up several flights of stairs, negotiated through a set of winding hallways with short sets of stairs in between. Fortunately the front desk is quite happy to provide luggage assistance, as it is doubtful we would ever have been able to negotiate it with our bags! And then there are the rooms. Well equipped but quite small, there was not enough space to leave our bags open in our room.

Review 75:The Sir Christopher Wren Hotel in Windsor has had a colourful if somewhat mysterious history. Ideally situated beside the Windsor-Eaton bridge, "Wren House", as the main house was known, is a Grade II listed building with beautiful period features. We have stayed in this property once in the past, but in 2011 it was taken over by Sarova Hotels and has undergone extensive renovation. If you like history, you should love the Sir Christopher Wren. Our room was quite serviceable with adequate power points and even air conditioning. We did not elect to take the breakfast package, but after trying several local spots, we found that we actually paid more on the outside, so we took it the last day of our stay. It was plentiful and enjoyable. Finally, perhaps one of the most important features of this hotel is the location. It is only a block from Windsor & Eaton Riverside station and just down the street from Windsor & Eaton Central. Windsor is a top location, so of course there are plenty of shops and restaurants to delight any interest.

Review 76:Pillows very uncomfortable and hotel does not have AC nor elevators. Many stairs to rooms. Breakfast only buffet and hardly any choices from a la carte. However, Staff willingly took bags to rooms.

Review 77:Excelent location. Staff was friendly and helpful. Nice terrace bar/restaurant.

Review 78:The hotel is spread over about 5 buildings. We were in the 4th building (across the road from the main building so no facilities) Whilst there is nothing 'wrong' with it as such I cant help but feel disappointed by the visit. The room was very bland and white/beige and had the feel of a basic/old travel lodge. Not what i was expecting. Amazing bathroom but a depressing room (but clean)... only issue was the head of the bed was against the corridor wall and anyone banging doors outside vibrated against the wall so you knew about it. Not what I was expecting from the hotel - thought it was going to be of a higher standard but for what we needed it was serviceable.

Review 79:great location.

Review 80:Unfortunately our room was located on the street side, and on a Saturday night this meant we experienced a lot of noise from the street itself until after 4am which was really disappointing. A large extractor fan was also located outside on our side of the hotel, which again made quite a noise throughout the night. It is for this reason that I would not stay at this hotel again, unless I was assured a much quieter room location.

Review 81:The hotel was lovely and the room itself was impeccably clean. The terrace was a beautiful place to sit by the river in the sun and I couldn't recommend it highly enough. The location of the hotel itself is very central.

Review 82:We noticed that there where several issues relating to the bathroom ; Shower not very strong in flowing. Hook on back of door fell off , and there was a crack in the bottom of the shower floor. And I woke up in the morning and noticed that i had been bitten numerous times Bed Bugs!

Review 83:Great Location on the River, good Staff, reception, bar staff etc . Great atmosphere within the hotel.

Review 84:Booked a twin room. Hotel sent confirmation double room phoned hotel andexplained that a twin room had been booked and payment taken in full onthe 23/02/2015. Reservations at the hotel said they would changethe booking to a twin room.Had to stay in a double room. Not happy hotelover priced will not stop there again.

Review 85:Single room v disappointing compared to the opulent rooms downstairs and double rooms that guests in my party had. Breakfast was v expensive and not included in room price.

Review 86:Location superb and staff v helpful.

Review 87:Had a power cut 7.30 Sunday morning but only lasted half hour, the thing is only one person on reception and they said there was nothing they could do as manager does not start till 8am ...... what about your customers!

Review 88:Rooms spotless so clean. Breakfast excellent

Review 89:fantastic location on the river and bridge between Eton and Windsor. Hotel nicely situation dispersed into reused buildings rather than a big single block.

Review 90:I stayed in the main building in a single room with no airco which is not necessarily a bad thing but the window could only open about 15 cm. It will be definitely hot on warmer summer days. Water pressure was quite low in shower (bathroom was nice!)i. Shower quality is a very important feature in a hotel room.

Review 91:Wonderful atmosphere, great location and terrace. Good breakfast. Well equipped room.

Review 92:The closeness to the Thames River with a patio setting serving delicious Pimms. A wonderful place to meet with friends and enjoy their restaurant cuisine, both a high standard and value for money.

Review 93:Staff at the bar gave us the tray of drinks to carry ourselves and then staff at breakfast did not even come over to offer us coffee, we had to ask halfway through B'fast. They seemed more interested in clearing down.

Review 94:The bellman/porter was so nice and could not have been more helpful - thank you! we had may bags and they were meant flights of stairs!

Review 95:Our room was not in the main hotel. Our bathroom was visible as street level with no frosted glass. Car park ok if you own a fiat 500 other wise it's very tight. Premier inn just as nice.

Review 96:The non cooked breakfast options were poor. No museli, most breakfast cereals seemed to be aimed at children

Review 97:The location could not have been better as the hotel looks over the river

Review 98:Unfortunately the weather was very hot, one room the air conditioning broke down and the noise from the street during the night disturbed my friend quite slot. The other room had no air conditioning. In neither case was a fan made available.

Review 99:The hotel was lovely and we enjoyed our stay.

Review 100:We were staying in an annexe of the hotel which is above a takeaway so the smell at night is not very pleasant. The room is on a slant (room 86 ) so everything slides down even your drinks off the tables.Would not class as an executive room.

Review 101:the location is excellent. friendly staff and helpful

Review 102:Set menu choice too limiting and wine as part of the package not very good, would have preferred a choice and paid an additional sum for better quality. Didn't have breakfast, silly charges.

Review 103:Enjoyed views from the terrace. Such a convenient location. Staff ever so helpful

Review 104:Our room was right at the bottom of some stairs where there was some noise from the guests coming and going. The pillows were a little hard too. However neither of these things would stop us staying here again!

Review 105:The location of this hotel is perfect, just off the High Street with beautiful views of the river. Great choice for breakfast. Staff very accommodating in all areas of the hotel. We were able to leave our luggage when we checked out to collect when we were ready to leave Windsor.

Review 106:I stayed in Windsor for the weekend prior to business meeting in and around London. The location near Windsor Castle is great, but off the main street.

Review 107:I only regret that I didn't have time to enjoy the spa facilities.

Review 108:The staff was very pleasant and accommodating. The location was fantastic. Loved the tea selection and biscuits in the room.

Review 109:Not a very warm welcome at reception, and a very warm room (air conditioning simply wouldn't work). Avoid in summer.

Review 110:Excellent friendly restaurant staff, nice location on the river close to castle and theatre.

Review 111:The hotel is tired and very overpriced. We had to change our room as the fan did not work and it smelt of cooking from the kitchen. (room 45) There are other hotels in the area which seemingly is worth a punt, especially if you are paying top prices.

Review 112:Location

Review 113:-No elevator -Some furniture could use some refurbishing -most of the rooms do not have a river view

Review 114:-Just a couple blocks from castle and main tourist areas -Friendly staff -Large room and bathroom -Free Wifi

Review 115:ROOM 27 MUST BE THE MOST BASIC OF STANDARD ROOMS, LOOKING ONTO A CABLE-END THE WORST ROOM IN THE HOTEL THERE CANNOT BE ONE WORSE. ACCESS ONLY BY SEVERAL FLIGHTS OF STAIRS, AND THIS RESERVATION WAS MADE IN JANUARY 2015

Review 116:THE AREA OVERLOOKING THE THAMES, THE SITTING ROOMS.

Review 117:receptionist on arrival was not very friendly and didn't feel as welcome as other places we've been to. Just a smile helps.

Review 118:Friendly concierge made welcome

Review 119:stained carpets, poor decor, small and uncomfortable beds, excessive music, lack of empathy from staff about such a poor stay. Expensive and not value for money

Review 120:location

Review 121:Wasn't very impressed the last time I stayed here, but they have really upped their game and the service was good plus I had a nice comfortable room.

Review 122:NOTHING HAD A PERFECT WEEKEND BREAK.

Review 123:Location, friendly staff. Just few mins walk and the main street is there, but this is on a nice street with the bridge to walk into Eaton and has a lovely outside terrace to sit out next to the river. Windsor nice with plenty of shops, bars and restaurants. .

Review 124:some issues over a follow on reservation but these were resolved amicably. Some rooms are in need of refurbishment but nonetheless are comfortable and adequate for short or long stays

Review 125:Location - short walk from the Castle and across the river to Eton. Grand rooms are excellent and sought after. Must book these in advance.

Review 126:Awful receptionist who was rude discourteous and didn't tell us the truth about having to wait for a room for 2 hours! Her attitude ruined what should have been a good weekend. Luckily for her some of her colleagues were more polite!

Review 127:The location was good.

Review 128:Nothing at all

Review 129:We liked the wonderful appointed drawing/living rooms which all guests could use. The comfortably appointed bedrooms and the very convenient location.

Review 130:I suppose it would have been good to have a lift, but it was no big deal.

Review 131:Beautiful drawing/sitting rooms, comfortable and clean bedrooms,,convenient location.....what more could we want.

Review 132:£30 car parking for two days!!!! To stay in hotel car park!!!! Which we were told, we only paid if they had to park it in a car parking area away from the hotel. Also there is no lift!!! My husband has a knee problem, and found the stairs painful. We should have checked if there was a lift. Being a hotel we assumed there was one....

Review 133:Cleanliness. Location is excellent.

Review 134:The service in the restaurant and bar was the worse we have ever experienced. We waited over half and hour for 2 Pimms and one sandwich. We never received the mayonnaise which we had requested or cutlery. Even going to get it ourselves proved impossible. The staff were friendly but just did not perform. We ate our salad fries and club sandwich with our fingers. The only thing they remembered to bring up was the bill. Because of this we chose not to eat our evening meal there and not have breakfast which was £15.99 on top of the £140 we had spent. We have received far better service in Guest Houses for a lot less money. It was a shame as we had hoped to stay again in August for four days.

Review 135:The location was perfect. The reception staff very friendly and helpful as too were the porters

Review 136:Restaurant service diabolical they forgot our order despite drinks being paid for. One of our rooms wasn't ready until late. Observed many other people also complaining about wait for rooms

Review 137:Location and quirkiness of the hotel itself. Service recovery by Danny duty manager good. He owned the problem
