Reviews for Sportsmans Arms Hotel

Review 1:Conveniently close to the A38. Welcoming and helpful hosts; clean and comfortable room, well-kept beer; a great breakfast and excellent value. What more could you ask for?

Review 2:i guess the only downside would be no food is served other than breakfast but there is another pub two minutes walk away.

Review 3:We were made to feel very welcome - have to be honest, thought it would be noisy and stinking of beer being a pub but we were very surprised at it all. Christine and her husband were brilliant and very friendly.

Review 4:Allocated wrong room (lower standard than that which I had paid for). No wi-fi in room despite it being advertised as such. Very small and basic accommodation. Mix up with the billing arrangements.

Review 5:Warm welcome and very well looked after. No evening meal available but nice, local restaurant within easy walking distance.

Review 6:Owners friendly and professional. Room well furnished, clean and pleasantly decorated. Conveniently positioned for my needs with plenty of parking space. I will most likely go back again.

Review 7:Bed a bit hard but didn't affect my sleep.

Review 8:Nice clean room with kettle, bath, shower, towels, soap & shower gel provided.. In a quiet location with friendly staff & locals. Breakfast available if wanted.

Review 9:Shame they don;t do evening meals - especially given the breakfast was so good!!!

Review 10:Location excellent - personal & friendly welcome and a terrific breakfast - THANK YOU!

Review 11:It is a sports pub, with football on 2 tv s plus darts match, but we didnt mind that , as it was quite late when we arrived , and we just needed to sit and have a drink. Only problem was another guest had tv on sports channel on annoying sound level from midnight until 2 am. Not much sleep, as we kept on thinking it will stop soon , surely .

Review 12:Just handy location for next days visit.

Review 13:Nowt.

Review 14:Excellent pub and accomodation. Staff were friendly and helpful. Cannot fault the breakfast or the hospitality in any way. Excellent restaurant just up the road.

Review 15:I'm vegan so the breakfast options were a bit limited. Having said that I didn't ask about this beforehand so perhaps I could have had something different if I asked in advance!

Review 16:Really friendly staff, beautiful room, comfy bed, great price. Location was perfect for a wedding in Menheniot!

Review 17:Christine & Rob are the perfect hosts, looking after us. Loverly cooked breakfast (Vegi). The room was a good size with a very comfortable bed, large TV, and plenty of room to relax. Perfect location to explore Cornwall. Highly recommended.

Review 18:V friendly owners. Good location, really nice, well equipped rooms. A little over an hour from Penzance and a better overnight option if travelling back from the Scilly Isles.

Review 19:The only thing I didn't like was it is literally next to the train station and can be very noisy if you have the window open in the summer not too bad when the window is closed

Review 20:Christine the owner is lovely nothing was too much trouble very welcoming and friendly the room was spotless and the bed so comfy sadly no breakfast with the room that's extra had a brilliant night in the bar and playing pool it is in the middle of nowhere if you don't drive but is directly opposite the train station location and the views are fab

Review 21:Nothing in particular ', but would be nice if they allowed pets if I was to spend more time there !

Review 22:Cleanliness of the room and in the pub, good secure parking, nice friendly hosts , good price, good sized single bed , pleasant room and surroundings.

Review 23:The wifi was very intermittent on both our Apple and PC. (This probably would not have been too much of an issue if we had not been resident on business.)

Review 24:Great room with super comfortable bed! Friendly, helpful staff. Although the pub does not do evening meals, it is only a couple of minutes walk from a very good pub/restaurant.

Review 25:No negative aspects of my stay at all.

Review 26:The bedroom was wonderful. Spotless and quality bed. The hosts and local are charming. Excellent beer and top rate value for money. This place is a little gem. Lovely cooked to order breakfast too.

Review 27:Free Wifi was from the Cloud, no reception in the room but they did have a separate guest lounge. No food available in the evenings. I was put in the room nearest the railway (4) so noisy, even though other rooms were vacant but maybe becos it was the cheapest?

Review 28:Owners made me feel very welcome & were very helpful regarding local area. Very nice, rural, quiet Inn with big garden & views over valley. Lovely duck down bedding -very comfortable.

Review 29:Nothing

Review 30:The proprietors, Rob and Christine, are friendly and helpful, and made my stay enjoyable with good recommendations for places to visit. My room was lovely, clean and modern. The bar is a great place to relax in the evening and chat with the staff and some of the locals. Breakfast was great, cooked fresh while I waited each morning. They have a nice garden bar out back that would be lovely although I didn't use it, as I was only there during the evenings.

Review 31:Not a bad experience but a suggestion: web site stated evening meal not provided when in fact bar meals are available and I suggest website is amended to clarify this.

Review 32:Staff welcoming and friendly. Rooms clean and well furnished, bed exceedingly comfortable. Facilities all we required. Location convenient for our purposes, close to Plymouth and the coast.

Review 33:nothing....loved the whole experience

Review 34:friendly owners, lovely clean rooms refurbished since my last stay. spacious and comfortable. plenty of parking space. lovely cosy feel to the bar area with log fire. full English breakfast was delicious would highly recommend to anyone who is looking for a friendly relaxing break.

Review 35:They didn't start serving breakfast until 7.30am which is the time I had to leave, they could have offered to make me something to take with me.

Review 36:The owners were friendly and sociable

Review 37:There was nothing we disliked about this place

Review 38:Very friendly and welcoming . Easy to find and an ideal base to get about and see Cornwall. Will definitely go back for a return visit.

Review 39:Nothing!

Review 40:Friendly welcome, very clean room with excellent facilities. Warm welcome in the bar and not far from local attractions and shopping. Will definitely use again.

Review 41:The hosts were very welcoming, and the stay was perfectly comfortable, I would stay there again, it was a convenient location for my business purpose.

Review 42:The very misty Cornish weather, but that was really no surprise!

Review 43:We were only passing through on our way to visit our daughter, but were made to feel welcome by Rob and Christine. Very nice breakfast. Can confirm most of other previous guests favourable comments. What else to say?

Review 44:All the pub was excellent great beer, great staff, fine views had a great stay. The bedroom was very clean and excellent bed. Would go back anytime.

Review 45:Nothing not to like!

Review 46:The hosts were very welcoming and attentive. Our room was of generous proportions, beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean. Breakfast was delicious.

Review 47:Not one thing.

Review 48:In no particular order:- the location, the hosts (Rob and Christine), the ambience of the place, the supreme cleanliness of the room and its decorative order, the transport links, the local customers (it's a proper local pub - but not at all noisy), the easy access to dining facilities, the total experience. And I must mention the beer!

Review 49:Very pleasant couple run a very clean and well appointed village hotel. Cheap bus trip into Plymouth within 5 minute walk, as was a good restaurant called The Hayloft. Excellent base to visit Plymouth and other seaside areas, along with Lands End and Cornwall in General.

Review 50:The room we had was really big and so was the bathroom. It was a nice change after having some really small rooms the previous week. The breakfast was also good.

Review 51:It would have been great if they served evening meals, especially as the breakfast was so good!

Review 52:The owners were exclent and couldn't have been any more helpful and friendly. The rooms are extremly smart and immaculately presented and well equipped. The bed was very comfortable and had crisp white linen sheets and and the breakfast was excelent. A great place all round and exceptional value for money.

Review 53:The only criticism would be that the bed was so soft we were just not used to it. Used to a firmer bed.

Review 54:Made very welcome by all. Nice big room with on suite. Very clean and cleaned daily. Tea & coffee replaced daily so we could have a drink in our room. Central location. Hair dryer in the room.

Review 55:The train could be a little loud however, I didn't hear it at all through the night

Review 56:I used up all my milk on the first night. After I got back from a very long day working, there was not only more milk but additional milk so I didn't run out again. That gesture was really thoughtful and appreciated. The bed was exceedingly comfortable and despite not serving food, the owner, Rob, recommended a great restaurant. The towels were super soft too!

Review 57:Very clean and comfortable rooms with lovely ensuite facilities, great breakfast. All the staff are very welcoming and helpful, good range of beers in the bar.Easily accessible from the main road and routes to Looe and Liskeard.

Review 58:Very clean. Room very good size and very comfortable. Convenient to one of the main routes to Cornwall. Close to main railway line but it did not bother us. Good overnight stay.

Review 59:A fantastic place to stay - straight from the warm welcome from Christine and Rob we felt really relaxed and right at home. Lovely room, great breakfast in the morning and a lovely pub for a drink in the evening. We'll be back!

Review 60:Close to the railway which may not suit everyone. We live by a railway and felt perfectly at home!

Review 61:The welcome was wonderful, we were made to feel like old family friends. Room was spotless and comfortable. Breakfast delicious.

Review 62:We stayed from the 18th-20th July in room 5 ( Double ), all we can say is that if you book here you will not be disappointed, the whole weekend was perfect and Christine and Rob are outstanding Hosts, looking forward to staying with you both again

Review 63:The only thing i could possibly say against the Sportsman's Arms is that tha dovet on the bed was to heavy for this time of the year. But as we did not mention this, i don't realy have a complaint.

Review 64:We enjoyed our stay at the Sportsman's Arms. Wonderfull people, both staff, and the local pub users welcomed us and were very inquisitive as to where you came from and where you were going or had been. This made for a welcom to join them in there leisure time and to be part of the conversation going on.

Review 65:nothing

Review 66:chris robert very nice people the host very nice tick all the boxes chris said you'd like to treat people as she treated self i would recommend this to everybody places very clean a very good breakfast

Review 67:I feel these are only minor points, but the latch on the bathroom door didn't seem to work, and neither did the light above the mirror.

Review 68:Christine and Rob are fantastic hosts and were very helpful. Christine went out of her way to make us feel welcome. The room we booked was spacious and allowed plenty of light in.

Review 69:Wifi was a problem, but it was nice to be incommunicado for a change.

Review 70:The decor itself was quite understated and its proximity to the railway station is ideal. Only the occasional train does a request stop, but this was most convenient on the day of departure (10.38 Sunday morning) and you can just flag the train down. The hotel is pretty close to the Menheniot Turn bus stop, which is great for getting into Plymouth and, except Sundays, for riding as far north as Bodmin General or Newquay. After a day out it was nice to drop into the bar for a quiet drink and catch some of the World Cup. While very friendly, the owners leave you to yourself, which is as I prefer it. Would stay here again and bring the family.

Review 71:The only disappointment was the Wifi, which just didn't work for me.

Review 72:Very friendly owners. Once I'd figured out where the pub was, it proved to be very close to the 593 bus route (Meheniot Turn) with the nearest stop just a couple of hundred yards up the road. The occasional train stops there on request too. You can travel direct from Bodmin General, which is very useful. Decent restaurant up the road (The Hayloft). Meheniot village itself, where there is a Spar, is a good walk across the valley along typical, high-hedged roads. My room looked onto the main railway line (great for trainspotting) but not noisy at all. Nice bar. Decent breakfast.

Review 73:Shane they don't do evening meals.

Review 74:Nice quite place with a good view from the room. Plenty of parking with a train station 2 minutes away. Breakfast very good.

Review 75:Every thing to a high standard,Very clean! Staff are polite and friendly.
