Reviews for Victoria Square Hotel Clifton Village

Review 1:Few minor irritations: bathroom was OK - not nearly as nice as the other bedroom in or booking. Remote not working, table lamp socket not working, no lock on bathroom door. French doors locking system a bit dubious. reported all this to receptionist so, hopefully, sorted. Microwaved bar meals.

Review 2:Quiet room. Friendly staff. Comfortable bed. Property left behind in room returned by post swiftly. Took on board reported faults.

Review 3:incredible kindness from the staff who have all gone out of their way to help at a challenging time. I would particularly like to thank the wonderful Manager here for all she did for us.

Review 4:Slightly difficult to find parking given that we arrived in the dark evening and couldnt find the entrance to it though was helped by the staff. Only thing we could have wanted was a pool which the hotel doesnt have but was otherwise amazing.

Review 5:Perfect location, central but not distrupted by traffic. Very helpful lady at reception. Immaculately clean and quirky lay out to the hotel, with steps up to reception from outside with our room downstairs and toilet down a further two steps within the room. Perfect for leisure. Couldnt be more pleased with the price, location or room.

Review 6:Would have been lovely to have had a drink in bar area on arrival at hotel but it was all closed up. It was fairly late, about 11pm..but this would have been nice. Felt like more of a guest house than a hotel.

Review 7:Gorgeous area, hotel room roomy enough, lovely views.

Review 8:n/a

Review 9:Ideal location for our visit to SS Great Britain. It is also close to the zoo & a short walk to Clifton Village for restaurants / shops.

Review 10:Bathroom in our original room had not been cleaned properly, but we were given an upgrade to a different room.We have used this hotel before and were not as impressed this time

Review 11:It was basic but clean and perfect for purpose. Just a note that there wasn't any bottled water in the room but was a lovely place to stay.

Review 12:Lovely place - highly recommend.

Review 13:I really wanted to like this hotel, and although the location and staff were lovely, we did experience a few things that put a slight downer on our stay. Our double bed (though good mattresses bedding etc) seemed to be made of two singles pushed together, with a double sheet on top. The shower was a little disappointing too, you could get clean, but it kept varying in pressure. Felt like it needed updating. We thought breakfast was included, so it was disappointing to discover it was £10 extra a head, after paying £89 for the room.

Review 14:Very helpful, friendly staff. Bedding was clean and good quality.

Review 15:Builders at the hotel ruined our stay. Apparently emails were sent which we did not recieve! People come to Bristol for business, to shop and to party and spend good money to get a sound nights sleep! Why have the builders start work at 8am banging and sawing and drilling?!! Checkout is 11am, they should start work at 10.30am and finish later! Our planned day of shopping was ruined as our sleep was ruined!

Review 16:A bit shabby, thin partition walls allow you to hear what your neighbouring guests are up to. Seems pricy for what it is.

Review 17:Convenient for Clifton area, obviously

Review 18:Located on the top floor noise from water tanks very disturbing -no ventilation except small fan in bathroom -not made aware of parking charge.

Review 19:Clean and tidy but nothing exceptional.

Review 20:Room 244 had cracks up the wall, cobwebs on the ceiling generally very tired decor. Also scaffolding outside the window, there was supposed to be building finished by September, we stayed in December! Disappointing

Review 21:Location

Review 22:The location was perfect as my son a student at the university lives on the same square. It is a charming building, a lovely very clean romm and very friendly helpful staff.

Review 23:Had a problem with the taps/shower. We both struggled to turn off the water after a shower.

Review 24:Nice comfortable room. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Good breakfast. Would definitely stay there again.

Review 25:Awful shower. I came to Bristol to attend a black tie dinner and had to have a cold shower at a trickle and abandoned my plan to wash my hair, there was not enough pressure in the system to do this. Next morning the temperature increased to lukewarm but still couldn't wash my hair.

Review 26:Good location, decent room.

Review 27:I booked a single room, not one with restricted leg room. I accept that I am taller than your average person but if the bed is going to be slotted into a confined area then make this clear.

Review 28:The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. I misread the breakfast times and came down 30 minutes too late but the staff very kindly cooked breakfast for me!

Review 29:Bed in room we were put in was a bit too soft for me. That however is just personal preference.

Review 30:The hotel gave us an upgrade which was nice and much more spacious. Always easy to get everywhere on foot from this hotel. Staff always helpful and friendly and breakfast fab every time.

Review 31:I contracted food poisoning during my stay ( confirmed by 2 pharmacists locally) however although I reported this several times to the reception and had to stay on re illness, I was not contacted at all by any manager. This spoilt an otherwise good experience. The other staff (other than manager) were pleasant.

Review 32:Nice hotel in an elegant square.

Review 33:Bathroom a bit dated.

Review 34:Excellent location for Clifton Village. Comfortable room & good breakfast. Not a fancy boutique hotel but then not a fancy price! Good value for money.

Review 35:The standard of cleaning could have been a little better e.g. my teaspoon was clearly used and their were a couple of light hairs on my shower tiling.

Review 36:Excellent location in the heart of Clifton, great staff and excellent breakfast.

Review 37:Bathroom very dusty shower lacked power.

Review 38:Close to our daughter who lives nearby. Walkable distance to shops and restaurants, bars. Very friendly reception staff.

Review 39:Bit of a walk to city centre but that was OK as it gave us options We were unlucky as we stayed on Halloween night which was noisy

Review 40:Location for village, bridge ans Ashton gate. clean rooms with a good breakfast. Cheaper Car parking which is Bristol city central is very expensive

Review 41:rather expensive for what you get; not enough water pressure on top floor; no hot water; very slow internet

Review 42:good location for Clifton and city centre; quick reaction on shower problem

Review 43:The toilet flush in our lower ground floor room was temperamental! More serving utensils required for the help-yourself breakfast. The car park is not the biggest but heh this is Clifton....there is parking!

Review 44:The room was spacious if a little cold. Very clean and comfortable. Good location for Clifton Village. The buffet breakfast was varied and semingly regularly replenished. Would recommend.

Review 45:The room had huge marks all over the walls and some plaster had fallen off the wall by where the headboard should have been, the bathroom was dirty.

Review 46:It was in a nice location, but too expensive for the facilities.

Review 47:My friend and had a large twin room with a view. Staff were very nice and helpful..breakfast was varied and plentiful . Buses stoped outside but lots of things to walk too.

Review 48:I checked in at 11:00 p.m and the night porter was exceptionally helpful; friendly and not too familiar. I was staying over-night after meeting friends after work.

Review 49:Door lock on pre booked room was broken, preventing entry. Staff attempted to move to another room which was very small (having booked a large double accommodation - this was not adequate). Then shown to another room after some time waiting and in a separate building to the original room and bar/restaurant, which was in need of decoration and had an unpleasant aroma. Following this, shown to a further family room which was extremely basic, again in need of updating, dirty bed linen, dirt on walls and stained curtains. Having seen a number of other rooms felt it pointless to move again so simply put up with the poor standard... However did complain to reception where I was informed that the manageress would be informed and in touch. Limited private parking spaces in hotel car park and scaffolding covering exterior of building.

Review 50:Front of house staff were friendly and breakfast reasonable.

Review 51:My room was freezing cold. There were two radiators neither of which seemed to work. The night porter brought me a plug in electric heater

Review 52:Friendly and helpful receptionist.

Review 53:Cooked breakfast could have been a bit hotter. Poor quality desk in room awkwardly placed on a hearth looked ugly compared to rest of the room.

Review 54:Lovely period building with generous size room and outlook over the garden. Very quiet location with no traffic.

Review 55:Bit noisy in a basement room at the front (voices outside late at night and traffic/buses early morning)

Review 56:Good price, ideal location near to our son's Uni accommodation, onsite car park, nice breakfast

Review 57:Everything about the hotel was brilliant. The staff were all very kind and helpful nothing was too much trouble. We asked for a couple of things and they were supplied.

Review 58:Heating doesn't really come on.

Review 59:Came here with my boyfriend to stay the night as we were travelling to Scotland, loved it soooo much we extended our stay for another night, lovely spacious homely rooms and very very friendly and understanding staff. I would definely always return, very impressed thank you :)

Review 60:Bedrooms need better lighting as too harsh - lamps would help to create more cosy environment . Shower was terrible as head was too small but bathroom was nice In family room.

Review 61:Fab location on lovely square in Clifton. Friendly helpful staff and lovely breakfast . Gorgeous Georgian building with huge warm rooms .

Review 62:Room TV was tiny and on a low table, so not easy to view

Review 63:Great location next to restaurants in Clifton village with parking if you don't too arrive late

Review 64:Room was expensive for a small double.

Review 65:Location was ideal for visiting Clifton and parking was useful. Room was adequate and clean. Bed was comfortable. It was good that we could book just 1 night's stay at a weekend when Clifton Down would not allow that.

Review 66:Surly staff at times. Took a friend three attempts and over 12 minutes to reach me by telephone. First two times nobody answered and phone went dead on the third try the receptionist made poor excuses and took ages to identify my room

Review 67:Extremely noisy guests in room above ours, kept us awake all night. Room drab. Room needs redecorating and furnishings more appropriate. Wall mirror too high.

Review 68:Excellent breakfast. Friendly staff. Large bed.

Review 69:More plugs near the bed would help but not a deal buster

Review 70:Lovely reception from Agata on reception and treated very well. I will for sure be back! The room was clean, great facilities and super rooms.

Review 71:The first room we were given had just lining wall paper on the walls which was ripped in places and very dirty. The paint on the skirting boards and the wood work around the windows was chipped all over. The sash window wouldn't close at the top. The bedside lights were coming away from wall and looked quite dangerous. The second room had just been decorated therefore was cleaner but stank of paint. The carpet, curtains and pillows hadn't been washed which you would expect in a newly decorated room. Definitely don't recommend.

Review 72:The bed was comfortable

Review 73:Expensive for the standard of accommodation. For the price, would expect better shower, soap bars not squirty soap, less tired looking furniture and carpets. Also doesn't have to be quite so hot everywhere.

Review 74:Great location and building. Large Victorian room. Quiet (where we were at back). Lovely staff.

Review 75:Room could have been slightly bigger.

Review 76:Great location for our needs as it was close to the zoo and close to where a relative lives. Clifton is a great area with shops and cafes and it was not far to walk into the city. It was clean and had everything we needed for a short stay.

Review 77:difficult to find car park entrance no signage, car park very dark, room very hot small fan provided but ineffective. Blind didn't completely cover window by the bed so wasn't private. Television very small in impossibly high location with poor reception

Review 78:Comfortable bed, quiet location, plenty of choice for breakfast.

Review 79:Have stayed here a few times and this time I was in the building next door on the top floor which meant carrying bags from car up lots of steps to reception then down again once checked in and up lots more stairs. No offer of help from staff who could see I had suitcase work backpack jacket etc, I had to make two trips and all in pouring rain!

Review 80:Good location and all important car park

Review 81:The rooms in the second building (away from main reception) was very dated and needed a deep clean. The reception staff changed my room without any fuss. The WiFi connection is pretty bad.

Review 82:Great location. The staff are very friendly and helpful, the gentleman serving at the bar in the evening was particularly welcoming.

Review 83:All good.

Review 84:Located overlooking park on one side and wooded area on the other. Close to shops in the village and not far on the bus into Bristol centre. Staff very attentive.

Review 85:Not so much a bad experience but some of the rooms are on the second floor and there isn't a lift. However, if you need to avoid stairs then the hotel staff were very helpful in changing our room for one on the first floor or ground.

Review 86:Perfectly located in Clifton village but only 5 mins walk away from Whiteladies and Park Street, there is a bus stop just opposite the hotel that takes you to Temple Meads etc. The hotel is on a really pretty square with a lovely green, there is parking at the hotel and if you are there on a Sunday there is free parking on street too. The hotel is comfortable, clean, nice bedlinen and the staff are friendly and helpful. It is a good three star standard, but you will want to call the Victoria Square Hotel your 'Bristol home', its great.

Review 87:The stairs. Our room was situated right at the top in what might have been the servants rooms, we were asked if we needed a hand with our luggage which we declined but would have taken up on if we had been informed just how many stairs we had to climb, otherwise great hotel.

Review 88:The location is central to a lot of attractions, breakfast was really good and the bus stop was just outside the hotel.

Review 89:Parking can be tricky if you are there in the daytime. However you can park locally 9 pm- 9 am without a permit. The hotel charges £5.

Review 90:Very pleasant and helpful staff. Great location. We have stayed before and will do so again

Review 91:Shower cubicle door hanging off, a single room so small I lived out of a suitcase all week, towel rail radiator not working, bulb gone in room and not replaced.

Review 92:Checking out on the final day!

Review 93:It was conveniently located to where I needed to be but which did not have accommodation. Likewise breakfast was easy to have prior to starting my day. It was also close to a bus stop which gave ready access to Temple Meads stAtion.

Review 94:Both the room and bathroom were quite small, hence very small wash basin. WiFi signal wasn't strong enough at times.

Review 95:Clifton is a very nice area, quiet outside, atmospheric period piece building, friendly staff, excellent breakfast.

Review 96:We have no grumbles!

Review 97:Being upgraded on arrival to a larger room. Good service at reception and friendly ,helpful staff at breakfast. Good location.

Review 98:Nothing too major but hallways could do with a bit of redecoration.

Review 99:Nice clean hotel, good buffet breakfast, stayed in a basement room which felt very airy with big window. Free high speed wifi.

Review 100:on check-in the receptionist kept us waiting for ages [about 8 mins] whilst she tried to sort out another booking on the phone - need more staff!!

Review 101:big comfortable bed, good breakfast, brill location.

Review 102:Rather noisy - doors banging and bins being filled/emptied - in the night. No visible way of changing the temperature in the room. Rather tired decor - especially the carpet!

Review 103:The bed and the duvet. Very comfy. A decent amount of milk for tea in the room. Efficient and helpful staff.

Review 104:didn't have breakfast this time too canteen like and the tables are too close together and for ten pounds you can get better just across the park although if it were raining i would eat in the hotel but insist i sat in the main dining area not the small area where the food is

Review 105:third time at this hotel ...fantastic location and all the staff are really helpful and friendly, bus stop into bristol and back again right outside and all the rooms we have had have been spotless....

Review 106:One of the staff members at breakfast was very surly. The bar closed very early. The night porter was rude.

Review 107:The reception staff were pleasant and very helpful.

Review 108:My shower didn't work which was nightmare and the wifi was sporadic but they reduced the bill to compensate

Review 109:Lovely bed lots of pillows and cushions tv that works lots of channels a good desk chair etc and lots of tea and milk and biscuits

Review 110:Rooms weren't very well sound proofed. Water pressure In shower was low.

Review 111:Lovely hotel. A fair way from the station but well placed for the sights. Room was very comfortable. A really comfy mattress which helped with a good nights sleep.

Review 112:Breakfast times were short, but then it is a small hotel!!

Review 113:Great location, friendly staff.... Everything you need in a hotel... Not luxury, but v functional and practical....

Review 114:No elevator. Rooms on 2nd floor are up an incredibly steep and awkward flight of stairs.Standard rooms are very small and cramped. Whole building in need of major refurbishment. Huge cracks in outside walls of second building.

Review 115:The location is excellent for visiting Clifton.

Review 116:Charging £5 for the car park just because street parking is chargeable. Surely this should be a hotel asset. Whilst the breakfast is good it is pricey at £9.95. On the Booking site it looked like a good deal at £76 for one night but when you add parking & breakfast it actually feels quite expensive for a 2 star hotel.

Review 117:Location, friendliness of staff, breakfast & general fitting out of the rooms

Review 118:Price:quality ratio. Unfriendly staff. Huge cost for a tiny room. Terrible wifi signal that cut out every single minute of our stay. Charge for parking.

Review 119:The location in the middle of Clifton.

Review 120:Was given a room with someone already in it! Blinds don't fit windows - street can see in! Pillow case with bloodstains

Review 121:Staff pleasant but going through the motions Bus stop right outside Walkable to the suspension bridge

Review 122:Paid £10 for car park even as a hotel guest. I think this is a ridiculous price and hotel guests should be able to park for free.

Review 123:Location was within walking distance to clifton village. Many shop, cafes and restaurants that are worth the visit. Receptionist was friendly and helpful. Check in and out process was swift and hassle free.

Review 124:Excellent and warm welcome with great staff. Breakfast was lovely with a nice variety of choice and a great pot of tea. Room was warm and clean and nicely furnished. I will definately be staying here again.

Review 125:Bathroom had smell of drains about it. £5 car parking charge for guests a bit cheeky.

Review 126:Room 207 had double aspect and was comfy and spacious. Staff friendly and enjoyed breakfast.

Review 127:Room was very noisy and lights coming on and off outside all night, had a terrible nights sleep. Poor parking which I had to pay for even though it was on there premises.

Review 128:Room and facilities good. Location good staff friendly.

Review 129:Very pleasant stay. The hotel is located in a nice surroundings of Clifton, close to monumental Brunel Suspension Bridge and a lively Clifton village with some decent pubs, cafes and restaurants. The bus stop is just outside the hotel (beware of a tricky Britol public transportation scheme). The room was recently refurbished and a small double was far bigger than we have expected (speaking from the experience in UK's hotels). Very clean, big wardrobe with hangers and no dirty carpet on a floor (what a nice difference from the usual stuff in British B&Bs or hotels). Special gratitude to Ms.(or Mrs.) Kasia from the reception desk who was very competent, helpful and simply a nice person to speak to. Her advices on what to do and see in Bristol were also very useful.

Review 130:Felt it was expensive. Charged extra for parking.

Review 131:The staff were very helpful and courteous. Breakfast was excellent. Convenient location. Would stay again, free wifi.

Review 132:Some simple maintenance work is missing (light bulbs, shower handles etc.)

Review 133:Location, and the fact that it looks like they are putting an effort in renovating and updating the property.

Review 134:Limited parking, confined space sloping in part, gravel surface difficult to grip on slope, narrow access and no spaces after 9pm when returning after night out. On street parking also difficult.

Review 135:Peace and quiet.

Review 136:Hotel a little shabby in places and felt the shower in bathroom needed updating - very weak water pressure. Car park very awkward and large vehicles could struggle

Review 137:Loved the location overlooking the leafy square. Good sized room and very quiet
