Reviews for Spean Bridge Hotel

Review 1:The wood panelling looks shabby, the central heating was switched off although there was a fan heater left in the room for us. The restaurant was closed but bar meals were available, the barman was more interested in watching TV than returning for our sweet order, after 25 minutes we gave up. The tables have plastic tablecloths and the seat was torn.

Review 2:The hotel was very clean, and the meals were very good.

Review 3:Very run down car park and outside areas could do with some landscaping, Wifi only available in entrance of main building

Review 4:Cabin was comfortable and clean

Review 5:Okay the hotel may look a little dated and may some maintenance on a couple of things but the place is spotlessly clean the beds comfy the staff very helpful giving useful advice if needed the full breakfast for £7 sets you up for the day , would definitely return when up this way again .

Review 6:The shower was terrible, the shower head fell off its mounting as it was not the right size. The heating did not work in the bedroom area. WiFi was only available next ti reception, for £74 a night I would have expected more.

Review 7:The room was clean although nneeded a little TLC

Review 8:No hot water in bath. Shower came off the wall. many of the things on the breakfast menu were not available. The "Fresh fruit salad" was tinned satsumas

Review 9:The location

Review 10:1. The initial reception was poor; 2. No offer to help with my heavy bags, I was just pointed in the right direction; 3. The room was not very good for the price, not helped by the fact the TV did not work. Only offer was for me to move to another room but by this time I had unpacked etc; 4. The shower facilities were a joke; and 5. Quality of food was not good. I could go on....

Review 11:Other than the quality of the beer there is very little that would tempt me to stay at this Hotel again.

Review 12:Hotel is historic and has a Commando Museum room on site. For history buffs this is a great addition. We stayed in a small cottage room away from the main house and it was clean and comfortable. Initially we were put off because it was very cold but with heating system and extra heaters procured from main desk we were comfortable. Main hotel is a little musty but our cottage was not.

Review 13:I did not like the fact that there wasn't any Wifi to my room. When I had been told it was available. Wifi was one of the main reasons I booked into the Hotel!!!!

Review 14:I liked the fact the room was big enough to share with my travel friend.

Review 15:No WiFi in the bedroom, only on the hall... or in description we were supposed to have. Nowadays I think hotels must have WiFi everywhere :/ Not easy to plan a trip without internet!

Review 16:The bedroom was not bad, and a little bar with friendly staff... seems like a "family hotel"... Spar nearby

Review 17:The double bed broke without any misuse! Signs stating that a charge would be made for any unauthorised use of the kettles. Not really the hotel's fault if people behave that way but also slightly off putting when making a morning brew! Hotel building and decor looked a bit tired in places.

Review 18:The accommodation was reasonably clean and offered good value for money Breakfast could be ordered on the day, with plenty of choice including cooked options

Review 19:The only downside was that the hotel restaurant wasn't open in the evening, even though we were told it would be - probably because it was still off season (we stayed the last weekend of March). This meant I had to take the kids into the bar, which was full of Saturday night drinkers. I wasn't too happy about this really, but the food was good and the service friendly.

Review 20:I booked a family cabin because I was walking with two of my children. The kids and I loved our accommodation, especially the swing chair on the porch and the super-comfy beds. Just what we needed after our long trek from Fort William.

Review 21:Looks a bit tired in places. Food very good but a little pricey. Non-cooked breakfast option very limited.

Review 22:Great location. Chalet cleaned and towels changed daily. Most staff very friendly. Remember its a 2 star not a 5!

Review 23:Parts of the decor look tired and in need of brightening up. The coffee served at breakfast was not as hot as it should have been, for some reason, even after I pointed it out and was brought another serving.

Review 24:V good location and welcoming staff

Review 25:The hotel is run down and desperately needs a makeover.

Review 26:The chalets were in better condition than the hotel. We had clean linen and towels and room cleaned daily. Bar meal was good unfortunately room was cold, fireplace was not lit and moved to the resident lounge which was warmer, Here we played games and had a fun evening with the kids and our friends .

Review 27:Room a bit cold and pillows need renewing. Double glazing would be a great help, and there needs to be some maintenance done.

Review 28:Location, staff, food, Commando Museum.

Review 29:The tv was too high on the wall had to be in bed to watch it comfortably not everyone wants to watch TV in bed also the mattresses on the bunk beds were a bit lumpy and uncomfortable

Review 30:The chalets were well heated so cozy and well equipped for the purpose of my visit

Review 31:Chairs could have been more comfortable Top bunk mattress smelled of urine

Review 32:Reception very friendly and helpfull Chalet quiet with adequate facilities for the price - TV, tea / coffee. Plenty of options for shopping and meals on hand

Review 33:Plumbing is unhygenic - water bubbles up through the plughole in the bath when water is run down the sink in the room - or in another room. TV didn't work at all. Tried a second room - it didn't work there either - 2 nights without TV. :Layout of hotel is disorienting. Promised "take-away" has closed down and been replaced by restaurant prices. More issues too numerous to mention.

Review 34:The staff didn't try to deny there were real problems

Review 35:A warm welcome and help to take our luggage up to our room. An interesting Commando Museum within the building. Very helpful smiling dining room Staffn

Review 36:This place is clearly past its best. Whatever connection it had with the Royal Marines is now gone. The 'museum' was tired, and the video player told volumes about how up to date it is being kept. The restaurant looked as if it only catered for the reunion business, and there were large obtrusive TVs in all public areas. There is a need for real rethink, or else I predict an early closure.

Review 37:Closeness to railway station

Review 38:Nothing

Review 39:Location was good for travel in each direction and had good views of the surrounding area, the proximity to the mill and local shops. Food was good and staff pleasant. Good car parking

Review 40:We found this a good hotel for getting away from large towns. It was a 40 mile drive to Loch Ness. The hotel is fairly old and sad, but the room was comfortable and the staff were lovely and helpful. The food was okay, but overpriced for the quality.

Review 41:The locals use the bar and if you have children you probably won't want to go in after 7 as it started to get rowdy. Not a child friendly bar really but then again it's for adults I suppose.! Didn't bother us as we only went in for one and sat in the comfy lounge out the bar area where it was quiet.

Review 42:Location is good for fort William. We stayed one evening and had a quiet pint in the bar, can't comment on breakfast as we didn't have it but the cabin was clean, shower good, and heaters work well. Would recommend for a couple of nights but wouldn't want to stop there for a week unless you were just using it as a base .

Review 43:Room was in desperate need of a make over- prisons have better decor than this place. It was way over priced for such a down at heel hotel. Won't be going back ever

Review 44:Nothing about this hotel would recommend another visit. Very eastern block shabby mish mash of furniture room with probably the oldest and smallest style TV ever seen outside a junk shop! Didn't want to tempt fate by staying for breakfast. I. Short I liked nothing about this hotel

Review 45:The wifi is a joke (and a bad one). It hardly ever works. The food in the restaurant is very average. In summer the so-chalets were chilly. Overall the comfort level was rudimentary. No shampoo provided.

Review 46:Rather scruffy and open car park. Wasps in the area of the Fish and Chip area.

Review 47:Very comfy room (34) Spotlessly clean. Quiet. Very helpful Good food.

Review 48:We were bitten by bed bugs. Matrasses in bunk bed were terrible, in other beds they were fine. Polish staff was correct and polite, but lacked any feeling for hospitality and friendliness. Breakfast not included and rather over-priced. Orange juice on menu was replaced by apple juice without any information or asking, because they "ran out of orange juice"! Fungus in shower.

Review 49:Excellent alternative to Fort William. Chalets are nice for families.

Review 50:no fridge in chalet.we thought it was self catering so brought food with us that went to waste.no cooker either just a microwave.this may have been an oversight by me and not checking the fine details though.

Review 51:location.accomodation was nice and comfortable.staff were friendly at check in and out.didnt have much to do with them as we were in a chalet and not a room.

Review 52:Decor is very tired and nothing matches. Could do with a face lift and bringing into the 21st century

Review 53:Plenty of space in the room. Everything you could want provided. Staff extremely nice and helpful especially the young man who served breakfast each day all alone, he worked very hard indeed and was still pleasant friendly and polite

Review 54:Very limited transport links to Fort William. Breakfast not included in price.

Review 55:The room was clean and comfortable. The staff were polite and courteous .

Review 56:No wifi in the rooms Pricy for the services offered Not a family friendly bar Restaurant was empty and did not look welcoming. Better to eat somewhere else for breakfast and dinner. Old train station restaurant and the cafe were very good options!

Review 57:Excellent beds Quiet

Review 58:Nothing, given the price and location.

Review 59:Two of us were there to climb the local hills for three days, and it was an excellent base. The staff were friendly and the service good. The menu was simple but adequate for our purposes and the rooms clean and again suitable cfor our needs.

Review 60:The toilets next to the bar, reception and restaurant are in a terrible state and so is the enclosed area visible from the restaurant with the wrecked wishing well. Bar had some noisy drunks in about midnight, hold up that was us!

Review 61:Lodges where excellent for our group of charity trekkers of Ben Nevis £99 per night, still don't belive we got excellent lodgings at such a bargain price .

Review 62:Attitude of chip shop staff Smell of cooking throughout premises Uncomfortable beds Inadequate ventilation in rooms Decor looks like an explosion in a junk shop

Review 63:Value position

Review 64:Would not use for a longer stay for a longer stay.

Review 65:Clean and comfortable room. Bar okay. Didn't sample the food. Used as an over-night stop on a tour of Scotland.

Review 66:On entry room appeared as expected but the bathroom was poorly maintained with sewerage smells in the room. These came from toilet which bubbled as you used the shower.

Review 67:Main hotel is dated, could do with freshening up.

Review 68:Lodge was clean with lots of room, recommended for walkers as its 'ok' but wouldn't want to stay if I was doing anything other than a quick stop over.

Review 69:Wifi in the far away rooms doesn't work, room could have been cleaner and strange smell in bathroom. Staff weren't overly friendly and breakfast not included in price; separate and expensive.

Review 70:Good location and facilities, basic but you get what you pay for

Review 71:Bunk beds not very comfy, bar lacked a bit of atmosphere - ac was freezing.

Review 72:Stayed in cabins which were perfect for the four of us on an overnight stop. Food was fine. Everything clean. Would stay again.

Review 73:It wasonly for one night and we wished it had been for longer. We loved the lodge facilities as we didn't have to worry about keeping the youngsters quiet. I also liked the Commando display in the hotel.

Review 74:Excellent accommodation for the price. We were visiting to climb Ben Nevis the next day and were pleasantly surprised by the chalet size and facilities. The staff were friendly and made provisions for us as we arrived at 1 am in the morning. Breakfast was also decent and good value. If in that area again I would definitely book a room.

Review 75:Décor of the bedroom, were quite old fashioned.

Review 76:The staff, were so friendly and helpful

Review 77:Shower very poor. No locks in the bathroom

Review 101:No telephone in room.

Review 102:Very obliging, helpful staff, nice room. Breakfast not included in price but reasonably priced - great choices.

Review 103:The wifi was horrible, lots of walking around trying to get it to connect

Review 104:We were out the back in a cabin, which had a small verandah and swing chair.

Review 105:Bar was not very cosy or inviting

Review 106:Friendly but not pushy staff, breakfast good value for money

Review 107:There is nothing I fault in anyway
