Reviews for Hotel De La Porte Saint-Malo

Review 1:Nothing negative to report!

Review 2:The breakfast was lovely, in a pleasant, cozy dining area. The room, though a tiny bit dated, was very thoughtfully furnished with everything we needed in a very comfortable space. The hosts/owners were very helpful, friendly and spoke excellent English. Parking was easy to find and right across the street.

Review 3:The Hotel De La Porte Saint-Malo is perfectly sited for visits to some of the most interesting towns in Brittany not to mention Dinan itself. It is located just outside the old town and has easy access and free public parking nearby. The owner and his wife were very helpful and friendly. Their homemade jams were a highlight of the more than generous breakfast. Were were so satisfied with our stay that we extended it for one more night.

Review 4:Nothing adverse to report on this hotel.

Review 5:Perfect location for exploration of the town. Excellent breakfast, loved the home-made jams, fresh fruit, croissants, bread etc..

Review 6:Lovely room and garden. Excellent breakfast with home made jam and local farm apple juice. Also lovely local cider you could buy and drink in the courtyard garden.

Review 7:Very unclear that sitting area outside bedroom window, beyond dining room was in fact exclusive to the bar area and we felt embarrassed when we were told not to take our own drinks there.

Review 8:Easy walk into Dinan. Fresh room and very quiet

Review 9:The owners are friendly, welcoming and helpful. This small hotel has a relaxing ambience. It has a comfortable lounge and sheltered courtyards outdoors. The rooms are also comfortable and spotlessly clean. Breakfasts are wholesome and substantial. It is situated in a quiet area of Dinan within a 5 min walk of the Medieval Centre. There is easy public parking just outside the hotel. Our 2 night stay was far too short.

Review 10:Nothing

Review 11:Pretty, impeccable small hotel perfectly placed to explore Dinan. Very welcoming owners. Large attractive bedroom and generous bathroom. Good breakfast.

Review 12:Extremely kind and helpful owner. Managed to provide gluten free options which we needed. Delicious breakfast. Helpful advice about choosing restaurant for dinner.

Review 13:Just outside the old town walls, there was easy parking, but only 10 minute walk from the restaurants. The owners are very friendly and made us feel welcome. The family room was a good size.

Review 14:The (single) room was very basic, where tall/heavy people have a problem getting there (to be reached by several small stairs) & moving around inside (very small)

Review 15:Very nice & typical building, in walking distance of the historical city centre

Review 16:A LOVELY HOTEL, FEW MINUTES WALK TO RESTAURANTS & SHOPS. VERY FRIENDLY HOSTS, GOOD BREAKFAST WITH HOME MADE JAMS, YOGHURT ETC. WILL BE BACK SOON I HOPE.

Review 17:5 mins walk to old town walls, the port and a large selection of bars and restaurants. Free parking in nearby streets. Hotel interior maintained to a high standard. We had a lovely loft room, with a double & 2 single bed beds, ensuite bathroom, and plenty of space. Great value for money.

Review 18:Lack of tea/coffee facilities in the room, but in the morning it was available at minimal cost.

Review 19:Lovely quiet location, a stone's throw from the beautiful town and it's restaurants/shops. A small room but very quaint and although the shower didn't look much, it was very powerful. The hotel had lots of character and was very clean and ideal for a much needed good night's sleep.

Review 20:The welcome, location, comfort and breakfast were all excellent. Parking is also available and the hotel is just a short walk from the old town which has many good restaurants to choose from.

Review 21:Not sure all the good reviews were staying at the same hotel! Dull, dismal, damp smelling room. Very basic and it wasn't that cheap. Greeted by very aloof man with long greasy hair. Reception had strong smell of dogs. Key fob was really grubby so certainly no attention to detail here. Didn't even try breakfast so can't comment.

Review 22:Nothing really

Review 23:Easy walking distance to the historic old town of Dinan. Free parking (on the street) was easy to find. The room and bathroom were a good size and very comfortable. Overall, very good value for money.

Review 24:The toilet flush from the adjacent room was rather noisy. The room was a little on the small side.

Review 25:The location was good, close enough to the centre of the old town, but still quiet and peaceful. The room was very clean and the bed comfortable. Breakfast was a real treat excellent value for money. The best coffee I've had whilst in France - hot and full flavoured. The owners were friendly and helpful.

Review 26:Great location - 2 min from la porte Saint-Malo, and short cut to the old habour with amazing old houses, and Capucine Mazilles s lovely artshop. Cosy and clean little singelroom on the topfloor. Very helpful staff: On my recuest, recommendation of the super restaurent Unicorn. When leaving - and as the taxi did`n show up - the hostess herself drew me to the station, so I would`n miss my train and flight in Paris. Merci beaucoup. Birgit Birkerød D.K

Review 27:Stephanie and Laurent were very gracious hosts who went out of their way to make us feel welcome. Our room was immaculately clean and the bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was substantial and consisted of cheeses, croissants, cereals, fresh fruit, home made breads, jams and yoghurt. Easy walking access to the village and the port. Would thoroughly recommend this hotel and we will endeavour to come back again to enjoy the charm of Dinan.

Review 28:We didn't receive the email with map so it was a little difficult to find.

Review 29:Nice, small family run hotel in an excellent location, 2 minutes from city walls.

Review 30:Our room was not one of the best in the hotel - damper and darker than others. Unfortunately the nicer ones were unavailable for us.

Review 31:Laurent was a wonderful owner and host. He gave us all kinds of advice on Dinan and personally looked for a parking space for us and help us with our luggage. He also gave us help us help on our wifi related problem. Breakfast was simple but enjoyable. The location is great, only 100m from a city gate and quite at night.

Review 32:A lovely hotel, close to all the shops, restaurants and beautiful views of Dinan. The owners were more than helpful (even providing crutches for my son when he hurt his foot!), very pleasant, friendly and excellent hosts. Our room was clean and comfortable and we loved the boutiquey feel of the hotel. We only had breakfast twice as it would have significantly added to the cost of the holiday over a week, but it was delicious with home made jam and yoghurts. Lovely quiet, pleasant place, just outside the city walls. Highly recommended.

Review 33:bit creaky but then again the building is hundreds of years old!

Review 34:good location great croissants at breakfast pleasant family feel happy to help and speak in English

Review 35:Excellent privately-run hotel, friendly and welcoming. We were on motorbikes and they made garage provision for us overnight. We found the rooms were simple but clean and comfortable. Breakfast was a good standard and plentiful. The harbour area with bars and restaurants is a short walk away, although quite a steep climb returning! Recommended!

Review 36:A charming hotel at the edge of a lovely historic city. Steps away from strolling along the ramparts or having a bit to eat in one of the local eating establishments. Beds were comfortable and our "family" room worked out just fine. Breakfast was delicious.

Review 37:We stayed at the Hotel De La Porte Saint-Malo on a cycling touring holiday and were made to feel very welcome and very comfortable. Secure storage was available for our bicycles, we had a very pleasant room with our own balcony. The booking was made via the internet and was one of those rare occasions when the actual hotel is even nicer than it appears from the advert. The Hotel De La Porte Saint-Malo is in an ideal position if you are visiting Dinan and we would highly recommend this hotel.

Review 38:convenient location; relatively easy parking. An interesting city. Outside the city wall but with easy walking distance of most facilities.

Review 66:A very comfortable room complimented by friendly and helpful proprietors all within easy walking distance of the town centre.

Review 67:Bright and comfortable room, great location and friendly run.

Review 68:Shower fixed at too low a height to have a proper shower.

Review 69:Location, facilities and price.

Review 70:It's quiet location and the friendliness of the owners. Nothing a problem for them. Perfect location for a base to see other must see things.

Review 73:Everything!! Perfect in so many ways.

Review 74:a pleasant short walk from the centre of town and really enjoyed the homemade produce at breakfast

Review 75:Lack of parking (although the owner did let me park in the - very limited - lock up offsite parking).

Review 76:Walls are a bit thin but an old town house so to be expected.

Review 77:Breakfast with home made jam. Friendly staff. Big beds in family room.

Review 78:zero!!

Review 79:AMBIANCE FRIENDLINESS SERVICE...excellent and discrete food location

Review 80:The owner was so helpful with directions to boulangerie and places in Dinan. We enjoyed our 3 night stay. Hotel is in great location.

Review 81:The entrance hall was a little cluttered and the bathroom towels rather thin.

Review 82:Parking outside, proximity to town centre. Fine for a nights stay.

Review 83:Wi Fi hot spot demanded more registration information from me than I am willing to give on line. Other hotels generally just issue a password.

Review 84:Stopped off for one night en route from Oleron to Cherbourg. Well situated very close to the interesting part of Dinan. Very attentive and friendly English speaking owners. Nice rooms and atmosphere. Strongly recommended.

Review 85:Nothing not to like. Has all the comfort, facilities and servicesyou'd expect in a hotel in this price range.

Review 86:Location was excellent; short walk into the old city but with carparking available immediately across the street. Owner/managers werewonderful - friendly, extremely helpful and interested in all ourqueries. Even saved a car park for us on market day when restrictionsapplied. Room was simply furnished but spacious, clean and comfortable.French breakfast very good with house-made jams and yoghurt andsensational bread. Sunny courtyard garden perfect for a drink in thesun. (Try the cider made by owner's brother) Would definitely returnif we should be so lucky.

Review 87:The water could have been hotter - fine for a shower, but lukewarm for a bath.

Review 88:The hotel was in an ideal situation for us, wanting to look round Dinan and leaving for the early ferry from St Malo in the morning. Mine Host looked after us brilliantly both when we arrived and next day. A wonderfully welcoming fire. If we visit the area again, we will certainly book there if we can Excellent breakfast.

Review 89:Room had a slightly damp smell, and the wifi was a little sketchy.

Review 90:The location in Dinan was excellent....about a 200 m walk to the city gate. Free public parking just a few steps from the hotel. Excellent breakfast....best croissants we had in France. Helpful host.

Review 91:Wifi was a bit difficult.

Review 92:The hotel had a very welcoming, relaxing atmosphere. The host was helpful but not intrusive. One felt very comfortable sitting by the fireplace or in the common area....books and games were available. The family room was cheery and comfortable for three adults...quite large bathroom. The breakfast was plentiful and very good. All in all one felt very much at home.

Review 93:Just one small thing - in the shower stall there is no soap holder. Hardto figure out what to do with it!

Review 94:A very pleasant stay just outside the city walls so just a tiny walk andvery convenient. When I first met the "manager" I was takenback by what I thought was an aloof attitude. But he turned out to be amost helpful person. I had a very nice room with a private littleterrace. Someone mentioned the duvet being too warm. Yes it was but Ifound that true in several small hotels.

Review 95:The top bedding was much to warm for our comfort this time of year; what would have been more suitable would simply be one top sheet. The top bedding would have been more appropriate for December and later. We regret that there was no place to rent bicycles.

Review 96:We liked being just outside the old city walls, so there were not quite so many people about. The second room that we had there on the inside was perfectly quiet and spacious. Great for two people. The location was great for access to extensive walking and hiking trails.

Review 97:Nothing to dislike.

Review 98:Quiet location, Close walking distance to Dinan town. Very good friendly service. Excellent continental breakfast & always offered more. Comfortable room with patio. Would definitely return.

Review 99:Room was somewhat awkwardly shaped and could have been uneasy to reachwith heavy suitcases. Free wi-fi access entailed logging in every time.

Review 100:Excellent location - a few minutes walk from the old city with plentifulcurbside parking (we did get a parking ticket one night, so look at thesigns before you park). Rooms are clean, newly refurnished and large, and the hotel is located in a pleasant old house. Hotel staff washelpful and friendly, giving advice for nearby attraction and so on. Wetook the 8 eur breakfast which was very nice. Overall, excellent valuefor money.

Review 101:No restaurant or bar

Review 102:Very friendly and helpful owner, comfortable and clean rooms, an excellent breakfast at a very reasonable price. Ideally located for the main historic part of town, which is just five minute walk away. We had toured Brittainy for about 8 days, and this hotel was easily the best we encountered.

Review 103:not much parking around the hotel.. a little car park around the corner, but always seems to be full. the receptionist moved his car and allowed us to take his space instead. very kind, and car was safe on the street for two nights

Review 104:lovely room, nicely decorated. window in room and bathroom! friendly staff. lovely breakfast. excellently located. we would return!

Review 105:A small thing really but there were no facilities to make tea/coffeein the room which meant there was no option to get a drink after thereception/bar closed at 8pm. As an observation we thought it wouldhave been really nice to have had the option to enjoy a glass of wine orcider in the bar area or courtyard after 8pm in the evening but to befair the early closing was made clear in advance and on arrival so not acomplaint.

Review 106:Really friendly, warm welcome. Great location ( about 5 minutes walkfrom centre of Dinan). Very attractive setting, traditional feel, lovelyspacious family room. Very helpful hosts who spoke excellent English andgave good recommendations for restaurants etc. Fantastic breakfast whichrepresented very good value for money. Would definitely stay here again.

Review 107:The was not a thing that I could or would complain about. Hotel Porte St Malo was great.

Review 108:We enjoyed our stay at the Porte St Malo, in Dinan, the family business, I assume, was excellent, clean, with great, comfortable, and large bed and spacious, spotless bathroom. Breakfast was not inluded in the tariff, but it was not expensive and was a generous and tasty start to the day. The hotel had unite, small walled gardens and a great sitting room with Wi-Fi and computer access, great when you are far from home. The hotel was quiet and well situated, only 200 m from the walls of Dinan. Our hosts were very friendly and always most helpful.
