Reviews for Crabble Hill House
Review 1:1) Location was not perfect but was known when booked so no fault of anyone. It is not 'in the thick of things' as much as that is even possible when lodging oneself in River, Kent. 2) Especially in winter when the inconvenience is most notable, this way of designing separate faucets for hot scalding water and icy cold water will never be understood by me :-)
Review 2:1) The host was pleasant and helpful - proactively providing info on eateries as much as he knew. 2) Big and clean bathroom. 3) Spacious and clean bedroom with well-maintained equipment (e.g. bed/mattress, kettle, etc.). 4) Nice view from Mulberry room 5) Good choices for Breakfast, well prepared, and tasty
Review 3:The bed was a little bit soft but that's just personal preference.
Review 4:Friendly welcome in a well equipped B&B. Good location with plenty of parking available, comfortable room & excellent breakfast. Offers great value for money for our nights stay before catching the ferry just a short drive away.
Review 5:Nothing not to like....
Review 6:Very nice property, very friendly/helpful owner. Decent size room even for the single.... The room was clean and you get more in your room here than you can get in big companies... Looking forward to coming back...
Review 7:I was staying there for the second time. It's a very nice guest house, good value for money. Not too far from the port of Dover if you travel by car. Dogs friendly. Very clean rooms, nice breakfast. Will stay there next time when I travel to UK.
Review 8:Really friendly, helpful host with a lovely dog, very interesting art deco house with a view across the valley from the breakfast room, really comfortable, beautifully decorated room, excellent breakfast. Incredible value for money.
Review 9:Excellent service, very personable. Gary is excellent host. Breakfast was superb. Room was a little chilly but additional covers were available and an electirc fire should we need to use it.
Review 10:No heating in the bathroom,Room had very limited heating , heating on from four for two hours no heating during the morning or day bed sheets were clean but worn ,bed hard and high to get on pillows to hard.
Review 11:Location
Review 12:Gary made us welcome on our arrival and offered his assistance in several ways to make our stay more enjoyable. The property has character with original features wonderfully cared for.
Review 13:Lovely interesting art deco house with many original features. Easy parking and very convenient location. As a solo woman traveller I felt safe, comfortable and at ease.
Review 14:everything was wonderful!
Review 15:Gary was an excellent host and very personable. Very helpful with lots of answers to our questions. Location was perfect: on a bus line which we used to go into town. Beautiful B&B newly redone and a lovely view.
Review 16:We love this Bed and Breakfast. Gary is charming, welcoming and a real joy. There are lovely views from rooms at the back of this elegant house. Gary has recommended some great places to eat in the area, both on this occasion and previously. We will definitely return.
Review 17:Everything about Crabble House is fabulous!!! The staff are friendly, polite and helpful. It's standard of cleanliness is wonderful. The rooms are wonderful.
Review 18:Immaculate throughout and a calm, restful environment. Attentive, friendly host and, to top it all, a comfortable bed in a beautiful, spacious, period property. I'd recommend Crabble Hill House without hesitation.
Review 19:Rooms a little old fashioned could do with revamp but overhaul very good
Review 20:Very nice place with good breakfast and only 10mins from ferry port, nice overnight stay
Review 21:Gerry was great, helpful and friendly. It was a pleasure to stay here for one night before we proceeded to the ferry Port which was about 10 Minuten away.
Review 22:Can be difficult to find. If using a GPS forget Dover and insert "River" as the suburb, which apparently is the correct suburb.
Review 23:Very comfortable. The host was most welcoming and helpful with advice. Excellent breakfast selection.
Review 24:Gary, the owner, was very welcoming & volunteered useful information about the area. Views from the dining room (rear of the house) very pleasant. Highly recommended
Review 25:The manager was very friendly and welcoming. We had a very relaxing night before catching the ferry the following morning which is a very short drive away. Would certainly return here if we repeat this type of holiday.
Review 26:Had to pay cash as no card options, wasn't really a problem but unusual now a days.
Review 27:Breakfast was amazing with lots of choice. Owner very friendly.
Review 28:the hotel is an old house converted into a hotel. That means the the bathroom and shower are separated and you have to get out of your room to get to the bathroom.
Review 29:The host is very friendly.
Review 30:It looks quite isolated , but there is a pub where you can have a drink or some dinner just five minutes walking.
Review 31:Wonderful breakfast. Owner looks really passionated about what he is doing, that explains how good is all managed and arranged. Superb relation quality-price.
Review 32:The bed was stupidly soft and we didn't really get a good night sleep before our ferry, which was the whole point of our stay. Staff very nice. The driveway was also very steep and difficult to park on.
Review 33:Lovely house with character, and old-skool B&B charm. It was in a really pretty location, just a short walk from the river. Sadly, I didn't get to make much use of the facilities or surroundings as I was quite poorly drying my stay, and had to leave early.
Review 34:A beautiful, dog friendly place with very nice rooms and a fantastic breakfast. Very warm welcome from Gary. He informed us about the village (local pubs, places for the dog, supermarket etc.). This place (including village and surrounding area) is too nice to stay only one night. Next time, we have to stay longer!
Review 35:The bed was comfortable but just a little soft along the edge which made me feel as though l might slide out.....!
Review 36:Thank you Gary for sharing your beautiful home. Well appointed room, spotless facilities and a great breakfast to start the day. We really appreciated Gary taking the time and effort to produce gluten free breakfast options. Top marks to a top host.
Review 37:Crabble Hill House and in particular the host Gary welcomed us very friendly and with a wonderful atmosphere. We had a lovely room with a bay window, but the bed was really small (which was correctly stated on the website, so we knew).
Review 38:Very tiny room with very small bed (too small for 2 persons). No bed-side tables. Noise from the road. There are other cpacious and quiet rooms, so be aware when ordering.
Review 39:Friendly host, generous breakfast, nice house
Review 40:We found our stay to be comfortable. The bedroom and en-suite were large and airy with large windows over looking a beautiful garden. Breakfast was excellent with a variety of choice to suit every taste. Thank you
Review 41:We had a bit of difficulty finding the house initially. Look for River Dover.
Review 42:When we arrived our host made us welcome and our room was very comfortable. Breakfast was good and overall a lovely stay. Also five minutes from Ferry port.
Review 43:The plug in the on-suite sink. However, once my partner was told how to use it, there were not futher issues!
Review 44:The warm welcome and the owner remembered me from a previous visit. The size of the room was amazing and the breakfast and variety was outstanding
Review 45:Our GPS directions took us to the wrong London Road but that was our fault and we had actually driven past the house earlier.
Review 46:Amazing location and lovely view from our spacious room. Great advice on where to go for an evening stroll and do a bit of exploring.
Review 47:nothing not to dislike
Review 48:From our first phonecalł to Gary we new we had found a great place to stay. We had the Mulberry room which was big and had a king size bed which was very comfortable. Even though it is on a busy road it was very quiet and our room had a beautiful view of the village of River and the hills beyond. Breakfast was a treat with Gary cooking a scrumptious hot brekkie and having a friendly chat to all of us. His knowledge of the Dover area was very helpful to us and on his recommendation we visited the village of Canterbury, which was fantastic
Review 49:Cash only.....not very convenient.
Review 50:Beautiful house, spacious bedroom, lovely en suite and excellent breakfast. Gary was very hospitable and looked after us very well.
Review 51:The location is only 5 minutes from the ferryport, excellent welcome and great recomendation for somewhere to eat within walking distance. Fantastic Breakfast in the morning would definately stay again.
Review 52:The traditional English breakfast Gary served every morning is the finest breakfast I have ever eaten. I mean that. Served with coffee and juice, I did not have to eat for the rest of the day.
Review 53:We loved everything. Couldn't fault Gary, our host, nothing was too much trouble. Thanks for letting us check in early and looking after us so well. After lots of travelling we could relax with use of the whole house. The breakfast was fantastic and everything we could have wished for.
Review 54:Nothing really.
Review 55:First night we had the front room, 2nd night we were given the mauve room looking out the back, a much better room. Breakfast was great.
Review 56:Not easy to find. Hotel sign too small to see, especially at night. Interior needs an update.
Review 57:Nice spacious room and fairly good facilities. Good breakfast.
Review 58:We arrived having had an 8 hour journey to find that the ceiling had fallen in when we entered our bedroom, this was in no way the fault of the owner who immediately said he would clean it up, but asked if we could go "for a walk" for 15 mins to give him time to do it as he didn't have another room to offer us. It would have been nice if he had offered us a pot of tea in the dining room whilst we waited rather than expect us to leave the premises.
Review 59:Lovely house with some nice features
Review 60:Not really good when depending on public transport. I came too early resulting in a 'pretty unfriendly un-welcome' - no answer on either home line nor mobile phone nor door bell. The single room has a private bathroom + toilet, but not en-suite.
Review 61:After everything was settled all was fine (see below). Very pet friendly. Nice area.
Review 62:Very accommodating when we rang up to say we would be late on arrival. Very enjoyable stay, which enabled us to set off on the second stage of our journey refreshed and well cared for.
Review 63:Cardpayment would be nice but the ATM isn't too far
Review 64:Friendly staff, clean room, very nice breakfast, easy parking and perfect for a rest before taking the ferry
Review 65:No room for a bedside tables so nowhere to put my book or a glass of water. Shower was quite erratic running very hot then cold.
Review 66:Freindly welcome and helpful proprietor.lovely room and a really comfortable bed. Tea/coffee making facilities and a bottle of water in the room. The proprietor even brought us some wine glasses whenhe saw we had wine with us. Good breakfast, freshly cooked with plenty of choice.
Review 67:The only draw back was that it was quite a long way from the centre, but I realised that when I booked.
Review 68:Cleanliness and a lovely breakfast served up by the owner who was extremely pleasant .
Review 69:Google maps and sat navigation send you to the wrong address! Use latitude and longitude to find the place!
Review 70:Fantastic host, very warm welcome. A reasonable price for either a sort stay or several days.
Review 71:The fact I had booked a double room and was given a small single (can't say it's the owners fault as another guest was sick and couldn't leave) but was charge the same amount. I should have been given a discount to be honest. The wifi drops out when in the room but is consistent in the communal rooms. The property is actually quite hard to find but the owner is very helpful in getting you there.
Review 72:Nicely decorated, good facilities, excellent bed. Breakfast is good
Review 73:Weather was warm and sunny during day but got very cold at night. Room was quite cold as windows are a bit drafty and heater too small to heat up the rather large room adequately. Shower room for this large family room is very small, poss a converted cupboard, with no heating that we could see.
Review 74:Beautiful B & B in stunning location with fabulous views. Lovely large old house which is very sympathetically decorated and furnished to bring out the character of the building. Gary was a first class host looking after us really well. His breakfast was fabulous with so many choices and exceptionally well cooked and presented.
Review 75:Nothing
Review 76:Everything,Gary was an absolute gem.The perfect host made us feel at home, recommended places to visit,as for breakfast nothing was too much trouble, varied choice every morning, always piping hot, cannot fault anything.
Review 77:difficult to find even with a satnav central heating poor. very cold rooms. heated towel rail not functioning. no table in room. nowhere to put drink etc
Review 78:pleasant host. good choice at breakfast comfortable bed .clean comfortable décor and structure very good
Review 79:The stay was not long enough!!
Review 80:This really was a breath of fresh air compared to a lot of hotels I have stayed in. The personal service received was warm and the owner was very proactive in making sure all our needs were met.
Review 81:The location was excellent, although a bit difficult to find because it's not actually in Dover, but River Village. Very good park and drive only 10 mins away into Canterbury. Gary the owner was very welcoming and was always on hand should any problems arrive. We had a brilliant two night stay and definitely stay there again.
Review 82:I'm 6'5", tables at breakfast a bit low.
Review 83:Surprisingly big room/bathroom/bed. Everything clean, nice view, good and quiet location. Delicious breakfast.
Review 84:Owner allowed me to go in earlier and put my bags in room, so I could explore the countryside. He was very helpful and couldn't have made me feel more at home. I felt immediately comfortable. I had a bathroom and toilet to myself, which was adjacent to the room, which was very cosy and comfortable. Will definitely be back again for a visit. The next day started with an excellent breakfast, home cooked with fresh pots of tea. Thank you for a wonderful stay.
Review 85:Not the owners fault at all, but don't rely on sat nav for directions. Can easily get lost, or I did anyway. Had good directions from the owner how to get there.
Review 86:Impressive big room and ensuite bathroom. Nice shower and some toiletries even provided. Big comfy bed. Great views and great looking garden but a bit cold to go out there this visit. Breakfast choices brilliant. Very impressed with this place and would definitely stay again. Within easy drive of ferry or tunnel.
Review 87:Have used many b&b, but this was excellent overnight stay after travelling from the north to catch a ferry the next day. Excellent welcome, wonderful property, very friendly host, very good breakfast. Will definitely use whenever we travel via Dover.
Review 88:Gary very helpful with info for eating places, plus directions. Would have been very happy to stay for a week but just needed b and b on way to Dunkirk for Remembrance day. Hope to return one day when in Dover.
Review 89:There was nothing that we didnt like. and could find no faults at all
Review 90:My wife and I liked everything about our stay. we could find no faults at all.We were made very welcome by Gary and would definitely recommend this place to anyone. We shall stay there again on our trips to Dover
Review 91:House was difficult to find in the dark. The room was on the street side, with a lot of traffic on the busy road. The high bed had a soft mattress that wasn't very comfortable.
Review 92:The house owner was very friendly and helpfull, cooked a good breakfast. The room was rather big with an attached big bathroom with a good shower.
Review 93:Poor WiFi signal Hotel located on busy main road Dated bathroom and toilet Incorrect postcode on website which meant that I had trouble finding the B&B
Review 94:Very friendly and excellent staff (Gary) Very good value for money Exceptional breakfast
Review 95:Nothing at all.
Review 96:Loved everything! We were taking an early ferry to Calais and combined a visit to Dover Castle for half-term break. What a lovely surprise! The property was beautiful and well maintained. The huge room looked out on the garden and hills. The decor of the room was gorgeous--all solid wood floors, custom furniture, stained glass, plush towels, beautiful bed linens. The bathroom was modern and spotless. Gary was warm, welcoming and made a wonderful cooked breakfast which was far above the standard English breakfast fare. I would highly recommend Crabble Hill House for an absolutely delightful and great value stay! We will return.
Review 97:I would liked to have an earlier book in time.
Review 98:Gary was very friendly and helpful and the choice of breakfast was great. The room was amazing in fact the house and garden was too.
Review 99:The fact that we had to leave!
Review 100:Gary the host was very kind and checked us in early. Crabble Hill House is very inviting and our room was very classy. In fact the whole place is beautifully decorated and you feel very comfortable staying there. Breakfast was delicious with good coffee. We were sorry to leave and would have liked another night. The whole place is spotless and it is easy to see how much care goes into looking after it. We will definitely recommend this place.
Review 101:It's a fantastic and highly-recommended Guest House. Very cosy, clean and comfortable. Very friendly and guest-orientated host and his family. Nice breakfast.
Review 102:Very warm welcome, and fantastic customer service, nothing was too much trouble. Even though we departed at 3.30am breakfast was waiting for us as requested and great local knowledge as to where to walk the dog and eat etc. Thank You Gary
Review 103:Absolutely nothing.
Review 104:We were travelling with our two dogs and a husband in an electric wheelchair. On arrival we were greeted by the owner and welcomed so warmly. We had spent the day in Dover and were tired. We needed to charge the wheelchair but couldn't take it to the room as there is no lift but it was not a problem as I was helped to get it out of the chair and get it into the house where we put it in the lounge. The dogs were greeted as part of our family and I had extensive walks and parks explained to me so that I knew where to take them before bed. The house was immaculate but I was not made to feel they were a nuisance. The room was fabulous, very large, bed so comfy and lovely views. We just relaxed straight away and in fact ended up asleep very early as we relaxed so much. We were up early the next day to catch a ferry and were ready early for breakfast. Again, no problem, we were called through early as we were ready. The food was excellent. Cooked freshly and to order. The price for this stay was excellent value for money and in fact we paid more than the asking price as we both felt it was such good value. Nothing was too much trouble. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend a stay here.
Review 105:What a lovely place to stay. The owner was a great host, offering a very warm welcome on arrival and an excellent breakfast, which was piping hot. My room was very comfortable and extremely clean. I will definitely stay here again in the future.
Review 106:A very small suggestion for our room - a surface in the bathroom to place our toiletries would have been very useful!
Review 107:The food was excellent (an amazing breakfast!). The room excellent with a very comfy bed and a lovely view from the window! The owner was very helpful and did all he could to make our stay perfect.
Review 108:Booked the place for my parents as they had an early ferry. After reading the reviews I decided to book Crabble Hill House and I am glad I did. They were in awe of the place and highly praised the host.
Review 109:We were most impressed with the friendly welcome by Gary, and found everything very comfortable, clean and tidy. Breakfast was excellent and Gary made our stay most enjoyable and homely.
Review 110:The quality of the food for breakfast was a bit cheap, but good and fresh. In the room one of the lamps was not working.
Review 111:Very nice and quiet B&B. The room was very clean and beautiful, with en-suite bathroom. The owner is kind and helpful, ready to help and to give all informations and directions you need. A bit far from Dover centre, so you may need a car (parking is available), but if you don't have it, it's not a problem at all as the bus stop is just in front of the House. Buses go directly to Dover and other nice cities as Canterbury. We stayed just one night, so we couldn't enjoy the stay too much, but was comfortable and warming. Breakfast was rich and range of teas always ready. Location was quiet and calm, the garden was amazing and the room very cozy with free wi-fi. Bed was fantastic! Definitely reccomended, I will go back soon for more nights!!
Review 112:A really magnificent place well cared for. Helpful on arrival showing the building and our room. Large room and bathroom. Great advice on sightseeing and eating out. Lovely cooked breakfast.
Review 113:The breakfast was amazing and our host provided everything you could think of. The house is so beautiful and so was our bedroom and the shower was excellent.
Review 114:We booked a twin room and the beds were very narrow and a little rickety.
Review 115:Lovely warm welcome, and nothing too much trouble. Beautiful property and unique decoration and furnishings. Huge bathroom
Review 116:My son's single room was small with a single bed and not that much less expensive (including one breakfast) than our double room (including two breakfasts).
Review 117:Spacious and quiet room. Free off-road parking. Good breakfast. Tea/coffee making facilities in room. Friendly owner.
Review 118:Very warm welcome, even though we arrived later than expected. Brilliant, large room. It was very clean. We have a baby and the cot was all set up. Breakfast was fantastic, wide selection. We stayed one night before getting eurotunnel in morning and would definitely stay again.
