Reviews for Macdonald Frimley Hall Hotel & Spa

Review 1:not anything although the location was somewhat hard difficult to find

Review 2:loved the old world charm and the Restaurant Manger (older french gentleman) was brilliant in service, recommendations and ensuring we were served extremely well.

Review 3:Didn't dislike anything. Great location in terms of where we needed to be over the weekend. I read quite a few reviews that were written over the Christmas holidays that bemoaned lack of staff, thankfully we didn't experience that issue, though this was after the holidays.

Review 4:The premises are lovely, the hotel staff efficient, very friendly and helpful. Our room was clean comfortable, with a very clean bathroom. Very comfy bed. The breakfast was excellent, we were impressed with the layout and quality of the food. The yogurt dish, black pudding and aausages and coffee were my favourites. Restaurant staff very friendly and attentive. We only stayed one night but enjoyed our stay and highly recommend the Frimley. I would like to go there in the summer in order to sit outside in the lovely garden and take advantage of the surroundings. Didn't have an opportunity to try the pool or spa, nice to know it's there for future use.

Review 5:I was there 3 nights and each night my card key locked me out of the room meaning I had to trek to reception on each occasion to get it reset.

Review 6:The rooms are clean and comfortable and quiet. This is the second time I have stayed here and it did not disappoint.

Review 7:A low, mechanical rumbling noise at night while trying to sleep (perhaps from the store cupboard next to our room or from the leisure centre across the car park?)which lasted till about 2am.

Review 8:Frimley Hall is a beautiful building to stay in

Review 9:Seemed short staffed and two of the members of staff we came in to contact with were very new and therefore slower or unable to help us.

Review 10:Food and facilities

Review 11:staff were going through the motions - Spa receptionist was bored to the point of being rude and the bar food was below par for the cost

Review 12:The hotel receptionist was sincere and welcoming

Review 13:It didn't embrace the Christmas spirit in either the lounge, dining room or its staff. The room bed-side light did not work and the cold tap in the bathroom delivered tepid water. Two cups of coffees were provided without saucers. No waiter service was apparently available in the lounge area.

Review 14:The building, grounds and entrance hall were all impressive but did not live up to its first impressions.

Review 15:Some technical room fails which really should not be and some overbooking issues which were quickly sorted.

Review 16:The friendly nature of the staff and the can do attitude.

Review 17:Bed very uncomfortable dip in the middle, took so long for anyone to answer the phone for room service, and did not bring ketchup with the fish & chips, but by the time it came food was cold. Took a long time to check out in the morning too. for the price paid, breakfast should have been included and is at competitor hotels in the area that we usually stay at for work, but they were fully booked so we thought to try this hotel

Review 18:Staff friendly, room clean

Review 19:Dinner was not available, due to xmas party bookings which also caused further inconvenience. Not our first stay at this hotel, but would look for an alternative for our next trip.

Review 20:Rooms were clean and comfortable

Review 21:Paying £145 for a room which didn't include breakfast. Also getting charged £11 for a glass of wine at the bar.The reception staff were a bit stuffy.

Review 22:The Hotel grounds were lovely and the Spa was friendly with a big pool.

Review 23:The rooms were far to hot. The bed in our executive room was very small and far too soft and bouncy - every time my husband moved it was like being on a roll-a-coaster!

Review 24:All the staff were beyond helpful especially Gemma!

Review 25:See above - but on the whole good. Taxi service arranged was safe, on time and I felt very secure. Eating At the bar in the evenings alone was fine. Breakfast was very good. Staff excellent . Although night time bar / room staff We're understaffed and had too much to do they coped extremely well. Rooms were very clean and organised well.

Review 26:Staff very good. Could have been a slightly better experience. Arrived on a weekday evening to a wedding with quite lively guests! Layout of hotel slightly worrying for a female guest traveling g alone ...long corridors - wedding guests etc

Review 27:Food/drinks a little expensive for the quality. Location is quiet but a little out of the way.

Review 28:The booking price was good and the room/bed comfortable.

Review 29:The pool and steam room were poorly maintained and there was a smell of drains this was the main purpose of the stay so very dissatisfied

Review 30:The bed was comfortable

Review 31:Food options and space at the bar is limited. If you are not fastenough to book dinner at the restaurant you are left the bar as thealternative option.

Review 32:Nice and clean rooms, location, building full of character and nice Spafacilities.

Review 33:The only thing was couldn't wash just my hair as cold water wasn't working on bath, shower OK though.

Review 34:Lovely hotel, staff polite and room really clean and comfortable. Was just there literally overnight so didn't try any of the facilities.

Review 35:Our only complaint was that the temperature in the room couldn't be controlled as "the management has decided that the heating should be on, so open the window if it's too hot.....it's not an air conditioning unit anyway"!

Review 36:Convenient for my visit, masses of parking, very polite and helpful staff. Breakfast was delicious but the full English took a long time to arrive as they had a big table to serve! The continental help yourself section was very good.

Review 37:managed to order fish and chips after ringing room service eventually rang reception - received food after 45 minutes having been told there would be a £5 tray charge. Reviewed bill only to discover there was a discretionary charge added without my consent. Meal was very small - mushy peas were horrific and looked like they had been left out - dry and didn't even attempt to eat them. Will not be staying or eating here

Review 38:No lift in hotel. We were in a very distant room and had to climb too many stairs, too many times. Also no-one to help with luggage. Had to haul it up & down ourselves. Disaster for older people. Also. Room not serviced at all for total 2 night stay.

Review 39:The hotel Location and the breakfast experience were good.

Review 40:The staff was icy at best and condescending and hostile at worst. The bathroom in my room was festooned with hair (and NOT from someone's head) and the toilet would flush very poorly (I would have produced more water sneezing into the bowl). I asked someone to fix it before I went out and when I came back, reception snippily informed me that the toilet worked just fine. When I said that it really didn't, the staff insisted and then patronizingly explained that I "had to wait between flushes so the cistern could fill up again - maybe that was the mistake". And for all of that, I paid 118 pounds for one night. Worst place I've stayed in in a long time and absolutely shocking that it has a 4-star rating.

Review 41:Beautiful building

Review 42:The hotel facilities are quite run down, especially the spa. There are always piles of dirty towels at the spa reception area; the ladies changing room is always damp; the sauna is too small (it can only accomodate 2 people), and the steam room is never hot enough. Our room was quite comfortable, but curiously the mini fridge was removed, and there was a very limited choice of toiletories (they didn't even provide body lotion or conditioner). At these prices I feel a little ripped off.

Review 43:Excellent location, we enjoyed beautiful walks in the area.

Review 44:Décor and facilities are old and tired and staff is very unhelpful.

Review 45:The grounds seemed very nice (although didn't get to explore much) and the building is quite charming.

Review 46:I had a brick wall inches from the bedroom window which blocked the natural light. When I queried this i was met with a degree of frostiness. Certainly very compromised natural light should be in the description. There was a noise of a machine all the time but most notable during the night.

Review 47:The room was nice and the bathroom excellent. Emily in the pool area was warm, welcoming and a credit to herself and the hotel.

Review 48:Booking in was a shambles had 2 rooms booked took over 30 mins to book in had issue for breakfast as even though paid for it wasn't recorded in the restaurant. Am disabled asked for very few stairs had over 2 flights asked for 2 rooms together as teenagers in other room they were on a completely different floor. Whilst there a wedding totally encroached on hotel... not enough staff for wedding and hotel...was supposed to be 4 star certainly not in service if so would have given 2...when arrived bottles and glasses everywhere on small walls and stayed that way all night never cleared... cigarettes all over floor near entrance so got stuck to shoes and walked into hotel

Review 49:Spa was great staff really nice in spa

Review 50:late table, surly waitress, took 1hour and 15 minutes from sitting to main course. Food nice but overpriced. 12% service charge - surely in this country it is 10 and not added automatically. too many hotels now do this.

Review 51:Surroundings and bar staff

Review 52:Long wait at reception to check in and out. Phone constantly ringing whilst waiting, very annoying.Booked twin rooms but did not get them. Fire alarm going off at 5am, not their fault but along with other issues spoilt our 1 night stay. Would not stay again.

Review 53:Swimming pool was lovely. Staff nice but working under a lot of pressure. restaurant food good but pricey, best choices had expensive supplements and had to wait long time for our meal.

Review 54:We were kept.awake.by drunken.swaering.until 2am and awaoken at 5am.by a faulty fire alarm. As a.consequence we only had time for breakfast before having.to.check out and leave and never got to use the spa which was why we were there!! We told them.this and the receptionist asked me how.much of a refund i wanted. I said i had no idea and he said he would get operations to call me. They never did so I emailed the hotel but still got no reply

Review 55:Impossible to find as the wrong post code is at the top of the booking confirmation, pool too hot & heavily chlorinated, food expensive and not that good.

Review 56:Luxurious room, lovely setting, good gyms, complimentary bottle of wine & a birthday card from the Manager in our room on arrival, which was a lovely touch.

Review 57:The room I was allocated was quiet and was a very good size with all the facilities I was looking for. The building overall and the grounds made it feel very relaxing even knowing how busy the local area is.

Review 58:The room was very small. Not what I was expecting based on what was advertised. A bit over priced. Would have liked a larger room.

Review 59:Nice hotel and property

Review 60:Nothing

Review 61:Such an amazing treat staff was awesome rooms clean comfy and very spacious food to die for absolutely couldnt fault it we will be back. The hotel is so beautiful and serene.

Review 62:Very overpriced, receptionist unhelpful, room tired, mould in bathroom, torn carpet, not in keeping with its four stars. Probably great in its day, could do with a refurbishment and some serious staff training, I got the impression they are all about the corporate and wedding events. Even when concerns were brought to their attention I got the feeling they couldn't care less.

Review 63:Ample car parking.

Review 64:We did have a few issues with our room but very kindly the young operations manager and the young gentleman working that evening very kindly helped us change rooms. The gym was really good but pool and changing area were very wet where it hasn't been mopped up.

Review 65:The breakfast was lovely, best thing about the whole weekend, the service was great.

Review 66:The Wedding at the venue took over most of the communal areas including the Library, lounge etc The restaurant was fully booked when we checked in. upon advice we took breakfast in our room, which was cold. Overall even despite the welcome gesture of a room upgrade & a bottle wine - travelling to this hotel for a very poor experience is not some thing that should be recommended.

Review 67:The Duty Manager performed well, when we complained.

Review 68:The sink in the bathroom was slow to empty. But a tiny fault really.

Review 69:Excellent meal in the bar as we arrived after the restaurant was open. Cant rate the service and the quality of the food highly enough! Nice room and comfy bed. The full scotish breakfast was first class and came with great coffee!

Review 70:It was only a one night stop but we still felt very welcome and it was extremely good value for the standard of hotel. There was a wedding there but the staff were very helpful and ensured that we weren't disturbed, and as we got back late they were very happy to accommodate this. The room was clean and comfortable and additional requests were not a problem.

Review 71:Staff were excellent. Dinner was especially good. Rooms are smallish and no twin rooms have walk-in showers. But very clean and well looked after. Would stay there again.

Review 72:At times I felt as if this place was run for the benefit of the staff rather than guests. Bar service was very slow. Breakfast does not start until 8am on Saturdays, which means that you pay for a breakfast that you don't get if you have to leave early (eg to attend a service at Sandhurst). I ordered a cooked breakfast to be delivered to my room at 7am, but was told that this was impossible, although a relative in another room did get his cooked breakfast. The supplement for room breakfast is a ridiculous £17.50. This spa does not open before 8am at weekend. The wifi is very slow

Review 73:The location is pleasant.

Review 74:Room was dirty- food on the floor. Had to ask twice for it to be cleaned. We were offered a bottle of wine. I said I can't have wine because I'm pregnant, can you offer anything else? They sent wine. Only space in the spa for the whole 3 days was one 30 minute slot- not enough for the 45 minute treatment I wanted. Spa staff said I could have shortened treatment to fit 30 minutes and only told me after it was the same price as a 45 minute treatment! Complete rip off. Would not recommend this hotel.

Review 75:Comfortable bed.

Review 76:Woken up at 8am as we were put in a room next to washing machines , when we were on a relaxing break away. Had room service for breakfast, they forgot cutlery

Review 77:The fire alarm went off at 5am and we had to evacuate the hotel

Review 78:Was okay, a bit expensive for what it is really, rooms are okay bit small, was nothing special don't think i'd go back, there isn't much to do in Camberley, you would need a car to go further

Review 79:The spa could do with a jacuzzi.

Review 80:Staff were very friendly, professional and accommodating. We had a lovely bottle of wine and card wishing us a happy 1st wedding anniversary which was a lovely touch. Our TV didn't work properly and the reception staff were very accommodating in trying to resolve the issue. Breakfast was fantastic!

Review 81:Paid for executive room, very poor compared with other hotels I've stayed in around the world. Have paid a lot less for far superior rooms. Breakfast far too expensive.

Review 82:Very little

Review 83:The staff were not happy, couldn't get into the spa. The hotel wouldn't served afternoon tea at 3pm!!. A catalogue of disasters throughout our stay. Many other guests were complaining so it wasn't just us. Wouldn't go back again or recommend.

Review 84:The bed was very comfortable

Review 85:Aircon wasn't working. Breakfast really expensive and food not topped up regularly enough.

Review 86:My request for extra pillows was taken into account and I didn't have to ask for more. The Swimming pool and relaxation area were pleasant. Gym also looked good but didn't have enough time to use it.

Review 87:Staff were a bit 'wooden' and not so 'caring' as one would expect. For example compare staff service at Premier Inn compared to this one.....! Not rude, nice enough.

Review 88:The reception/entrance hall ambience, very grand. Nice old 'Lodge' with history. Though not played upon enough. I wish I'd had time to enjoy the pool and spa.

Review 89:On check in at 2.30pm told I couldn't eat on the restaurant as it was already full; could oy eat in the cubby hole bar or room service. The spa was disappointing and got my treatments wrong. Staff need to learn personalisation of service.

Review 90:The hotel is a lovely example of history with beautiful grounds

Review 91:Being a busy weekend, there were wedding functions going on just underneath our room which meant loud music kept us awake till after midnight. Also, some of the staff could have been trained better in customer service and politeness.

Review 92:The location of the hotel is awesomely serene & quiet, it feels like a world away from the hustle and bustle of Greater London yet only 40 mins drive away. Hot English breakfast provided was of excellent quality.

Review 93:No complaints

Review 94:I loved everything. We were there for a family wedding & the setting was absolutely beautiful. The staff were very friendly & helpful, room was lovely, & there was a separate breakfast room for the wedding guests which was a great idea.

Review 95:Could not eat in restaurant , could only swim, no spa treatments available, staff behind bar were not at all friendly, disappointed

Review 96:Lovely setting , room was very nice , shower was lovely

Review 97:Mattress was quite bad and old, breakfast price for 16GBP is way too expensive for this area, although the quality of food is good. there is no lift available and staff is not too happy to help with your lifting your luggage up. Prices in bar are like London central area, too much for country side. reception is slow, if there is one person than queue comes up. There is absolutely nothing to do in this town. Cleaning is never able to make it until 2PM. Bathroom is also quiet old, renovation would not hurt. I've booked family executive room, but i think there is no difference with standard room. They rip off only for putting small sofa in the room. Room was super small.

Review 98:interesting old building, very beautiful garden. very good wi-fi.

Review 99:unhelpful staff when trying to book a restaurant reservatiobn - was told it was fully booked and then when arrived the restaurant was empty all evening!

Review 100:Pretty surroundings and relxed aqtmosphere.

Review 101:Found it hard to book spa appointments: I was "too far in advance and the book wasn't ready" / out when they called back to confirm my appointment (nothing on answer phone?) and no response to my email except for the standard reply that I would be contacted - wasn't. No trace of my booking on arrival, all spa appointments taken. Hotel information in room generic and not welcoming. Notice said lounge not accessible after 10.30 both days. Bar area linked to the corridor. Unexplained small gratuity added to our bar bill at checkout. Dirty sheets, bottles and glasses stacked end of our corridor for the day - both days. Room spotless at ground level, but a scattering of cobwebs in wardrobe and ceiling. Only dinner option was at 9 pm next day. Grey looking dining area. Woke with back ache both nights. At check out, 2 staff watched as 1 very courteous staff member struggled with long queue - no one wanted to pay over £3 for privilege of a quick check out system for staff's benefit. It just wasn't the luxury treat I expected so even the small things bothered us by the end.

Review 102:Good sized pool, not too busy. Enjoyable steam room and sauna. Great place to sit outside and drink as long as you don't mind the wedding crowd next to you - we didn't. Loved the lounge. Room and bathroom fine - lovely toiletries. Staff overall very friendly and helpful.

Review 103:The hotel seemed very under staffed. Service was very slow. This was not through lack of effort on the staff's part, there just wasn't enough of them. We waited over an hour for a bar meal two of the three nights we had one, and another five minutes for the cutlery. I didn't dare ask for sauce. Most of the times I rang Reception there was no reply. I asked for an accessible room for my elderly parents. They were taken in through an accessible door at the rear of the property only to be walked miles (passed our room) to the other end of the hotel. They ended up using the stairs as it was less effort than the long walk and then down a slope through the car park. Chaos ensued on the Friday night when we tried to access the hotel after a day at the races. They were hosting a prom. The hotel is accessed through a housing estate, cars were parked on one side of the road and a convoy of prom vehicles and proud parents blocked the other. When we did eventually reach the hotel grounds we were not directed and there was no where to park. We were just told the parents wouldn't be there long. I must add we were unaware of any noise etc after the parents left and the party started. Our room was in the modern part of the hotel. The acoustics insulation between the bathrooms was non-existent. Overall I was expecting more from Frimley Hall, it felt a like a step up from a travel lodge but with inflated prices.

Review 104:More than half of the staff were very hard working and went out of their way to help. The rooms were very clean Lovely gardens, perfect for a nice drink outside in a lovely setting.

Review 105:Room similar to travelodge but much more expensive, located in a 1960's building round the back. Five foot double bed. Six people for breakfast sidelined onto far too small table behind door when other tables available - restaurant manager full of his own self importance and poor at his job

Review 106:Main house reception & outside front garden terrace

Review 107:Paid extra for an Executive room that looked over very noisy kitchen fans, very little sleep due to not being able to open the window! Very sad!

Review 108:Lovely hotel, amazing food especially the Pea velouté!

Review 109:Only complaint, with a 88 year old dad whose celebrated all his big birthdays here! - a lift would be great! Would like to think we'll come back for his 90th!

Review 110:We had our wedding reception here 30 years ago and despite now living in the U.S. And families all over the UK we come back for every milestone event in our family. A special place for us!

Review 111:Rooms were situated far from main hotel, long corridors. No major complaint except felt that it was not best value for money.

Review 112:Hotel with old style charm. Convient location (if you have a car)

Review 113:Room doors banged shut, you could hear them all over the hotel. Breakfast hugely overpriced and the staff were not particularly attentive.

Review 114:Stunning hotel and grounds. Lovely rooms that were clean and tidy and well presented.

Review 115:Apart from the lack of a lift, there is nothing to dislike about Frimley Hall.

Review 116:My husband and I went to Frimley Hall for a 4 night stay. We loved the hotel and the beautiful gardens and terrace. The hotel is in an idyllic setting. The staff were very efficient and everything was perfect.

Review 117:Room was a bit warm at times and its location (above the air-con units) limited opening of windows. Breakfast could have been better (had clearly been kept warm for a while).

Review 118:Easy access to Ascot, comfortable room, lovely lawn area out front, decent fish and chips from the bar.

Review 119:it was not good value for money. the room was old, tired, small and cluttered. Not like the images on the website. Bfast was terrible. we were given burnt toast. they couldn't cope with the number of guests they had.

Review 120:Seem to have been bitten down both cheeks and both sides of neck. Can only presume I received these from the pillow. They are very red and inflamed and a bit painful. sorry!!

Review 121:The setting is wonderful and easy to get to races from this Hotel.

Review 122:twelve and a half per cent service charge. not only in the restaurant but also on all drinks at the bar. Extortionate.

Review 123:Lovely building with good leisure facilities. The food in the restaurant was very good.

Review 124:Considering the high prices, I was surprised and annoyed to find that I had been quietly charged £3 for using a credit card, and also to have a "discretionary service charge" for the expensive bar drinks added to the bill. I saw these by chance at check out and had them removed (but I had to used a debit card instead). In all my years of extensive traveling I have never seen this before and it left a bad taste. There was no apology from the staff when I objected, they seems quite indignant at my attitude although I was calm and polite.

Review 125:Attractive old-style building

Review 126:Wonderful wedding venue. Helpful, friendly staff. Lovely accommodation. Wedding breakfast and actual breakfast were delicious. Thoroughly enjoyable stay and amazing wedding, which ran like clockwork from start to finish. Many thanks to everyone at Frimley Hall.

Review 127:I had a room which interconnected with another. This proved rather noisy - just two people talking and laughing but as I was on my own it was quite intrusive. The curtains didn't quite meet in the middle so it took a bit of fiddling to keep the light out The cooked "signature breakfast" was a bit pale and uninteresting.

Review 128:I had a comfortable, well appointed room in the modern part of the hotel with everything I needed. The kettle was faulty but this was replaced at my request. Lovely bathroom with a "to die for" power shower, and lots of luxurious little extras. Set in pretty gardens, spa and pool on site

Review 129:So unfortunate to have a lovely stay tainted by the cold nature of reception staff on arrival at reception and rudeness of reception staff on departure. Having witnessed a particular member of staffs rudeness to the guest before us it came as no surprise when my sister who is visiting from SA and I were met with disdain at our every query. Left with a bad taste in my mouth.

Review 130:Delicious food and excellent wine. Great spa facilities!

Review 131:Room on small side, no in room safe

Review 132:Beautiful English Garden ,friendly staff , a very pleasant short stay in a lovely boutique Hotel in a leafy , green peaceful location .

Review 133:The breakfast was great, the room was clean and I liked the sitting area in the room. The entrance was grand, the garden lovely & the staff friendly... I'd stay again if I was in the area.

Review 134:Hotel was predominantly geared up as a wedding venue. It is not geared up for a quiet relaxing environment where you felt most catered for. My room was noisy. Benefits from the spa being a separate building.

Review 135:Lovely friendly helpful Spa staff. Explained treatments and effects. In particular a young beautician named Devon who could not have been more pleasant.

Review 136:Bed too soft held onto edge Alnight hoping not to roll in middle.awake most of eve .too tired to use spa facilities and too late after waiting 45mins for cooked breakfast and then had to be re-ordered as ticket thrown away. Do buffet style and have someone at hand doing fresh fried eggs!!!!

Review 137:I could hear the other guests tv from my room and the walls felt thin as I could hear them at night also!!

Review 138:The fridge in the room was a great touch!! A lot of space even though a classic double. Very kind when I had to check out a day early as my friend who I was meeting ended up in hospital back home so I needed to cancel my 2nd night which was no problem at all :)

Review 139:The bed was a little uncomfortable...could use new mattresses. The rooms are small. Carpet in hallways jaded. The couch was old with sagging springs with a broken zipper on the pillow with stuffing coming out. Didn't have a fridge for my first stay..(i should have requested one) .Did have one on my second stay.

Review 140:The grounds are lovely and beautifully kept. The spa was excellent...loved the pool. Looked after very well by staff. Nice complimentary toiletries in bathroom.
