Reviews for Innkeeper's Lodge Rugby, Dunchurch
Review 1:Nothing, everything was perfect
Review 2:The room was cosy and warm. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The food in the evening was exquisite. Definitely would return again
Review 3:Nothing really - bathrooms could do with a bit of a facelift, especially the showers - new tiles and new screens or curtains wouldn't go amiss, but they are clean and functional.
Review 4:Comfortable rooms, friendly staff, we often stay here, as it is close to our children. We had a very nice meal in the restaurant, which is very cosy with log fires.
Review 5:Lovely room, spotless bathroom, comfortable beds and first class food for our late supper. Despite Christmas festivities going on below us the room was very quiet and we enjoyed our overnight stay as we travel the country visiting family
Review 6:Only 2 problems - 1 - lack of soya milk - staff explained I could inform of dairy free requirements when booking, which I will do next time, but it seemed a bit antiquated not even to have long life soya milk available as an alternative. Second problem - I was seated for dinner, ordered a drink, then left for 15 mins before drink arrived and I could order - it only happened then because I asked another waitress. I had booked for 5.45 as I knew it was a busy day but it was still quiet where I was sitting and other guests were served before me.
Review 7:Relaxed, friendly atmosphere - staff mostly very friendly and helpful.
Review 8:Stayed in Room 10 with my elderly Mum. I never mentioned this at the time of booking but there were some very steep steps into and out of the bathroom! Mum managed the stairs OK - bathroom was big enough to have a party in! If you have mobility issues this might not be the room for you!
Review 9:Staff lovely and friendly. Vintage Inn with decent pub food and complimentary continental breakfast, Very clean and comfortable room and bathroom at a very reasonable price, thank you
Review 10:Bed was really old and soft...needs new mattress. The supper was awful. Bad food, not fresh fish, overpriced. Mediterranean vegetables, £4 for a tablespoon! Puddings were tasteless. Very disappointed - need a proper chef who knows about cooking proper food.
Review 11:Atmosphere.
Review 12:Beware. The company that owns the hotel rooms is not the same company that run the pub where hotel guests check in. As a hotel guests you will be treated as an inconvenience if you arrive at a busy time. Not very welcoming, After complaining about my wait at the check in desk I was checked in then directed to my room through a fire door. The door closed behind me and later when I tried to retrace my steps back to the pub the the fire door was closed and could no tbe opened from the outside. I found myself in an external but courtyard, in the rain in the dark with no obvious way out. Obviously I did find a way out but it was not a great experience. Then on my return to the room I couldn't get on to wifi because they use O2 wifi which requires the input of a code sent to you by text but there is no mobile signal!!! I called reception and explained that this area had very poor mobile reception and this was a frequent problem. They could offer no solution. Eventually I did get on to the WIFI walking around the car park in the rain looking for a place with a signal to retrieve the code. Not a great stay
Review 13:The room was fine, breakfast was ok, easy to find
Review 14:Room smelled of drains, we tracked smell down to the shower drain and told a member of staff when we checked out. But she didnt apologise or even make a note of the problem!
Review 15:Location
Review 16:Access from the bedrooms to the main building was not good at some times of day with fire type doors closed preventing access from the outside courtyard.
Review 17:Staff very helpful
Review 18:Shower pressure could be better.
Review 19:Lovely hotel, excellent food and very warm welcome from the staff. Would certainly stay again and would recommend.
Review 20:Our room was very hot when we arrived and overlooking the crossroads of a busy junction. I asked to be moved, front of house were helpful but the duty manager dismissed us completely, subsequently our stay was either hot and a quietish or warm and very noisy dependent on whether the heat or the noise was the most painful thing from 1am through to 8am. The room was passable for a village pub but no more. The breakfast was a joke, a few cheap pastries, cereals and toast, all accompanied by the overpowering smell of brasso as the staff polished the metal on the bar only a few feet away. It would be so easy in huge pub to provide a quiet space for guests to have breakfast. Such a shame as until recently we lived locally and the pub gets rave reviews for food.
Review 21:That I got to come on to booking.com and share our poor experience.
Review 22:The first night something kept switching on, it was about every 8mins so didn't sleep to good, but there was no noise 2nd night.fr
Review 23:Very friendly staff, comfortable, and it just seemed very welcoming. We would come again and recommend it.
Review 24:Cleanliness - there were chips on the floor when we were going to breakfast - not been hoovered or picked up. The room was damp - you could smell it despite the use of some air freshener to try and hide it. Stank, so I didn't sleep well. Staff friendliness - average to poor. They need to remember who the customer is. Especially on checking in!
Review 25:Not a lot. Location.
Review 26:Not a bad experience as such at all as a really nice little place...continental breakfast included which for the price feel a full cooked breakfast would be better value.
Review 27:Lovely little place.... Quirky little features, carpets nice and clean, appeared newish which I like. Bathroom nice a clean, reasonable fittings etc and hand soap and shower gel....tea and coffee facilities...nice to have a late night fob to get back into the premise which was fully explained...
Review 28:Stairs, creaky floor board, not possible to open the window because of road noise, the room was just in the corner of a cross road with trafic lights.
Review 29:Very friendly staff, good accessibility to restaurant and bar. Good parking. Adequate bathroom. Good beds.
Review 30:We stayed at this Inn for one night as we were attending a funeral the next day. The room was very spacious and very clean. The shower was the best we have had in a hotel, the bath towels were enormous. The beds were very comfortable.
Review 31:Our room did not have air conditioning, which wasn't ideal during the recent hot weather.
Review 32:My friend and I travelled to Dunchurch for a wedding. The location of the hotel was very convenient, as both the church and reception venue were only a 5min walk away. Our room was spacious and clean, and the bathroom was probably the biggest I've ever seen in a hotel (we stayed in room 10). The food was very good and quite reasonably priced.
Review 33:As with old property it takes some up keep some areas were a little tired and the floor boards creaked quite badly, but as I said its a very old building and this will not put me off returning
Review 34:Great location, value for money, very nice courtyard to drink and dine in. Still has its oldy worldly charm you can imagine the horse drawn coaches pulling in. Staff were very friendly
Review 35:One of my few requirements when I book anywhere to stay (the others are a clean room and a comfy bed) is a hot shower in the morning and when we woke up on Sunday morning there was no hot water at all! We had to boil a kettle and wash in the sink in the bathroom. When we went to breakfast and mentioned it we were told that it had just come to their notice and they were doing something about it and there would be hot water in half an hour. This was no good to us as we had to eat and go. It was a great disappointment especially as until then we had been pleased with the hotel
Review 36:We were really pleased when we arrived to find the The Dun Cow was a lovely old pub in a very pretty village just outside Rugby. The staff were friendly and helpful. Our room was fine - comfortable and clean with everything we needed. We decided to have an evening meal in the restaurant which was good value for money and again, the staff were friendly and helpful. We were also pleased to find that included in the £65 we paid for the room (which we felt was good value) was a buffet breakfast which was all we wanted anyway.
Review 37:Courtyard needs a clean up. Out of hours entry exit via the bin store! Yuk!
Review 38:Room, Shower Superb. Food Presentation Good, Flavour Great! Friendly Staff
Review 39:After helping ourselves to breakfast at the self service table and eating it ...We had to seek out the waitress for coffee and interrupt her conversation with other staff. and she still took another 5 minutes to come and deliver a rather cool, weak cup of coffee. Not a great start to the day!
Review 40:Lovely building, surroundings and room, good food in the restaurant. Room was spacious and single beds wide and beautifully clean. Good hot shower.
Review 41:People in next room coming in at 3am and causing noise on the Friday night disturbed sleep Had to knock on room wall Missed breakfast time due to catching up on sleep
Review 42:Although a large car park during meal times it can be busy to find a spot close to the rooms when unloading luggage. I would reserve some spaces for residents.
Review 43:Location second to none and all you need in close proximity
Review 44:Limited breakfast choice if you stuck to the included breakfast, and items were running out and not being replenished without request. Need more variety of breads and and savoury items, ie cheese or hard boiled eggs!
Review 45:Evening meals were very reasonable and a good variety.
Review 46:Several things not available on the menu, but it was Saturday night and very busy. Our companions unfortunately had a disturbed night with people talking loudly all through the night in room 14 (they were in room 15).
Review 47:We had a comfortable, quiet room as requested. We had a delicious evening meal in the very busy restaurant. Serving staff were very friendly and efficient. The hotel is very old and quirky, which I like.
Review 48:My colleagues room was musty it obviously had a problem as there was a de-humidifier in the room, this room should not be used until they have rectified the problem as it could be a health hazard
Review 49:No bath in large bathroom space. Residential side of business separate from bar and food..no charging food /drinks to room, hot items at breakfast have to be paid in cash if you have any besides the rather boring inclusive cold offering. Not sure how they can be 'separate business' when they share staff! Bar closed 10.30 pm Sunday no exception for residents even if you had just arrived! No lounge area as whole pub stuffed with dining tables, and busy with diners, outside benches left littered with dirty glasses and fag ends from smokers. Room clean but in the cold light of day upholstery very mucky in breakfast and other areas.
Review 50:'Olde worlde' building, nooks and crannies, creaking uneven floors, large shower. Real fires.Breakfast staff pleasant.
Review 51:Nothing. I liked everything about it.
Review 52:The food was really really good. The staff couldn't have been more welcoming or nicer. The bedroom was very comfortable and spacious, and the bathroom, although it wasn't the most contemporary, was modern, clean and spacious. Also great to be able to stay in your room until 12 noon.
Review 53:The bathroom in the family room was very cold having no heating in the morning but the bedroom was nice and warm
Review 54:Liked the oldie world decor and the staff were very accommodating as we needed to leave earlier than breakfast started but were allowed to help our selves to ceriel and toast.
Review 55:You could only get a cooked breakfast by ordering it and paying extra. It should be reflected in the price to include a continental and/or cooked breakfast and people can choose.
Review 56:I liked the room and the ambiance of the lodge.
Review 57:After checking in came back down for a drink but staff so busy we gave up waiting to be served at the bar and went over to the Green Man!
Review 58:Clean and comfortable bed. Even thought the pub was very busy with a great atmosphere the room was quiet, clean a good size and comfortable. Breakfast arrangements and lay out much better than the last time we visited.
Review 59:The breakfast was uninspiring poor service and unclean tables and when we left the hotel there was no one around to say goodbye and thank you to
Review 60:The ambience and evening meal.
Review 61:Confusing checkin location, but very efficient staff when we found out where to go.
Review 62:Location Busy bar area Excellent service at breakfast Character property Warm room
Review 63:Accessibility for wheelchairs is awkward as there are no automatic doors and corridors are narrow but this is the same complaint across the UK at many other hotels/guest houses. Otherwise, the Dun Cow is a great place to stay.
Review 64:Location was very handy for friends and family. Food is very good value, staff are friendly and helpful.
Review 65:No complaints.
Review 66:Ambiance of the bar restaurant areas with open fires. Clean comfortable spacious rooms. Good food at reasonable prices. Excellent continental breakfast buffet. Good free onsite parking and good reliable WiFi everywhere.
Review 67:The up and down stair access to the bathroom was difficult with poor headroom. OK if you are generally fit but definitely not for anyone with hip or mobility problems.
Review 68:Very spacious and well appointed bedroom with good easy chairs. The bathroom was palatial - big enough for a party! A room of real character!
Review 69:Busy road junction adjacent to room. I found that the pillows were very uncomfortable.
Review 70:Convenient location close to Rugby. Evening meal was very nice. Bar setting was pleasant and had a good choice of ales.
Review 71:The room was not quite up to standard really. Hairs in the bathroom. Stans on the carpeting, and dirty looking tiles in the shower. The paint was alos peeling and falling from the cubicle. Not very impressed.
Review 72:The pub/restaurant was good. Food nice. Rather busy place, but no long waiting times for food etc.
Review 73:Not enough staff - we struggled to pay our food bill at the end of the night. In the end we gave up and paid the next morning. Also very loud fire alarm went off twice in the early morning
Review 74:Fantastic value for money and a lovely place
Review 75:Unsure where to check in Bar staff serving customers keeping us waiting without acknowledgement
Review 76:Comfortable, well kept historic building good breakfast good price Top end of 3 star
Review 77:Spacious well equipped clean room. Close to the M1 motorway yet in a quiet village setting. Good traditional bar with good atmosphere and good food at reasonable prices. Basic but very adequate continental buffet breakfast included. Plenty of free parking and good WiFi signal.
Review 78:This property is basically a huge noisy bar restaurant with rooms above. It is located immediately on a busy noisy road junction. The breakfast included in deal was a pathetic continental type and if you wanted cooked it was extra.Room initially given was not what was advertised.
Review 79:Bedroom which we finally got was comfortable
Review 80:First thing you noticed on entering the room was the musty smell. This was a ground floor room looking onto the square in the village but the main window was right next to the pavement and the traffic lights so consequently not peaceful. The other side window didn't open, was rotten or filthy, didn't inspect closely enough to identify which and the view through this window was not only masked by muck, but also by the prolific weeds growing in the vacinity. Breakfast staff (one only) was quite brusque telling you there was an additional charge for anything cooked. Overall not a great stay but at £62 for the night I suppose what do you expect? Won't be returning or recommending though
Review 81:Room was spacious and had a good sized bathroom with nice powerful shower
Review 82:- Had food when there and stuck in a corridor to accommodate larger groups.
Review 83:- Friendly and helpful staff - Decent room - Generally pleasant experience
Review 84:Internet using O2 WiFi is atrocious. I only managed to connect for one hour during a 3-day stay, despite several hours of trying. Because of this we have changed to another hotel for our next visit to Rugby at end of September.
Review 85:Everything, except ...
Review 86:Would be better if more family rooms were available or the option to sleep 2 small children on extra beds in a double room rather than needing 2 rooms for a family of 4.
Review 87:Fantastic welcoming and very accommodating staff, very comfortable rooms and great meals.
Review 88:We were a group of 11 staying the night before a family wedding - 13 of us eating in the restaurant. Friendly and efficient welcome from, I think, the manager. The rooms were clean, pleasant and have character. The meal was very good - well arranged and nicely decorated restaurant lively (but not noisy) and relaxing. Staff were very helpful, efficient and flexible.
Review 89:bad news when you had to get up in the night. the loo was up one flight of stairs and down another. not a shared bathroom just a little difficult to reach
Review 90:large rooms comfy single beds
Review 91:Bed very uncomfortable hard to sleep left with bad back Jug with milk at breakfast had cream stains on it. Window in room did not close had to ask for soap for bathroom to wash hands
Review 92:Nice village
Review 93:There used to be a good continental breakfast but the items on offer have dwindled considerably. Having to ask for hot water rather making the porridge to one's own liking was not acceptable! Storage space in our room was limited to 1.5 very shallow drawers plus the wardrobe which already contained other items.
Review 94:When we arrived the second bed hadn't been made up but staff were really quick to sort it out. Found the staff really helpful and polite and always trying to deliver great customer service. had a really good nights sleep & the room was really big, easily accommodating 3 of us.
Review 95:It is situated on a busy road so depending on which room you are in early morning road noise can be intrusive.
Review 96:Good sized rooms with excellent en suite facilities. Food is exceptional.
Review 97:The only downsides were the poor wifi and the bins being emptied rather early in the morning!
Review 98:We stayed at the Dun Cow as an over night stop whilst travelling from the Northwest to Kent for a holiday. It is ideally placed close to the motorway and the staff and food were excellent.
Review 99:the continental breakfast which each morning run out of orange juice, brown bread for toast, plates and the selection of yogot. the only thing that did not run out but was not wanted was the conversation with the waitres.
Review 100:every thing except continental breakfast service.
Review 101:to eat bad food was dry and poor value for its money and it should inclueded cooked breakfast just add a small charge for our english people, also u should of had more staff on for breakfast people where waiting for a number of items not organised
Review 102:to sleep there good
Review 103:Friendly staff and very comfortable rooms, especially after a long day. Dinner menu good and very satisfying meal. Thank you. Already booked to come back on next trip and now my preferred place to stay in Rugby.
Review 104:Wi-Fi????? What Wi-Fi? Doors could do with door closer on the suppressed the slamming of the door particularly the security door at the top of the stairs. Better light over or near access to Room 4. I found it very difficult to find the key hole at night because it was so dark. Room 4 was noisy with lorries and motobikes on the roads outside but it wasn't really a problem a to me but maybe would be to others. Television remote didn't work satisfactory as the bed was too far away for the remote to function well. All nit-picking which shouldn't distract from a lovely, homely hotel. Better than many 4 star hotels I've stayed in that's for sure!
Review 105:Pretty much everything. Staff courteous and very helpful. Breakfasts mnagnificent and great value for money. Floorboards were creaky but charming and added to the character of the hotel. Not much to ciricize really. Great value for money in a hotel that exuded warmth and hospitality.
Review 106:Very homely sort of place
Review 107:Lovely environment, excellent food and great staff.
Review 108:The breakfast is very very poor the worst I have had in a hotel of this kind
Review 109:The staff are good
Review 110:THE ROOM WAS GREAT. FOOD VERY GOOD, STAFF VERY HELPFUL. WILL RETURN AGAIN
Review 111:cold beans for breakfast, sent it back then toast was cold, very dirty untidy eating area
Review 112:it was handy
Review 113:Nothing to dislike!
Review 114:Cozy and welcoming.
Review 115:Location was good and the breakfast provided with the room was good quality.
Review 116:catered for coeliac diet
Review 117:Lack of parking for hotel guests Breakfast on both mornings ran out of items well before end
Review 118:Room was clean if a bit basic.
Review 119:location, comfort, pleasant staff
Review 120:But tired and road noise. Bar isn't open to residents after hours
Review 121:Reasonable and great beers
Review 122:car park is large but is always packed by people in the pub and the restaurant
Review 123:location and price
Review 124:rooms were spacious and clean and comfortable.staff were polite and helpful from arriving to leaving.food was excellent
Review 125:Lovely cosy room (10) and huge bathroom e cells t location for our trip. Will stay again
Review 126:comfy clean room no sky tv but for one night very nice
Review 127:the rooms, the atmosphere, the food
Review 128:Rooms and food very good
Review 129:Great place to stay. Easy parking, very clean and comfortable room. Nice meal and atmosphere.
