Reviews for The Rodney Hotel Bristol
Review 1:Thought there was a lingering smell in the bathroom of drains etc.
Review 2:Easy access to town. Room was clean and comfortable. Staff pleasant. Value for money.
Review 3:Could do with a lift especially if on top floor.
Review 4:Lovely hotel with excellent staff. Room was cosy and we'll equipped.Breakfast brilliant with extensive choice.
Review 5:The price was not same what offered! There wasn't power in the hand shower. The top of the toilette was moving. The handle of the toilette flush didn't work.
Review 6:The location of our room was by the kitchen and it was extremely noisy until 1 in the morning. We could hear everything! It kept our baby awake. Avoid room 5!!!
Review 7:Location, beautiful building, spacious room
Review 8:1. limited parking, 2. rooms on three floors but no lift
Review 9:1. The staff were excellent. 2. The menus and food were good for a small city hotel. 3. The location near the Clifton Downs and the Suspension Bridge was good
Review 10:TRITON POWER SHOWER Should not have the word "power" in the title & also varies from warm to scalding without touching it! Could actually be dangerous
Review 11:Fantastically soft bed Mini french press to make coffee in the room was fantastic
Review 12:Avoid room number 5! It is on the hall floor, near the restaurant and staff kitchen entrance so it is quite disturbing till late night. There was no warm water in the early morning and the room was pretty cold as the heating wasn't on all the time.
Review 13:Cooked breakfast has a nice range of meals, friendly staff.
Review 14:The hotel is tired, the room door badly fitted, window terrible (kept sliding down) and needed replacing, shower very poor & the shower head corroded up, bathroom had a bad odor, bed was comfortable and sheets OK, very tight room i.e. from walking in to bed to wardrobe and bathroom door awkward to open and get round. Room not clean & fresh. All the carpets need replacing and the decor repainted.
Review 15:The staff were friendly, parking was OK, Breakfast was good for cooked side (but no fresh fruit for yogurt) it was central to where we were meeting our customer. My colleague and I had stayed before and the room I had was tidy and clean with a reasonable shower if I recall. Bar was nice but pricey.
Review 16:bucket on landing outside my room - i think because of a leak; shower not great; wind howling round window; I booked online but was then requested to pay extra - was cleared when the manager checked my booking.!
Review 17:location and feel of the hotel; dining room comfortable bed
Review 18:This hotel is NOT a 24/7 hotel. The restaurant closes after breakfast on Sunday and reopens on Monday for breakfast. The bar is also shut all day Sunday. Don’t take a lot of luggage unless you are a packhorse. There are no lifts and you have to carry all your luggage to your room. We stayed in an ‘Executive’ room, it lacked space to put our clothes away so we had to leave them in the suitcase. The room was so small you could not swing a cat and not being able unpack the suitcase made it worse.
Review 19:The restaurant provides excellent food, the staff just need to learn to smile.
Review 20:Breakfast could be improved eg fruit salad, yoghurt, healthy cereal, not just packet sliced bread. And a free large bottle of water in the room would be more welcome than a packet of biscuits.
Review 21:Bed comfortable, very clean and nice new shower.
Review 22:Noisy when events running, basement room next to gents toilet and under hotel entrance. Bathroom - ideal for short people, not for those over 5'7". Shower ridiculous height. Room not properly cleaned each day. Damp showing through paintwork/decor.
Review 23:The location. Staff were friendly. Hot water fast, which was fortunate as had to have baths not showers. Comfortable bed.
Review 24:i thought that the room was too small and for the amount of money that it was overpriced. especially as a solo traveller. also there was some wear and tear on the carpets and the painting wasn't that well finished.
Review 25:I liked the staff and the location. the breakfast was good and the restaurant and bar areas were nicely decorated, and cute.
Review 26:Very overpriced. Rooms were clean but single beds and cramped. "Parking" was offered, but only in the 4 spaces directly outside the hotel - and charged.
Review 27:Nice location, very friendly staff.
Review 28:There was a wedding on that took over the whole hotel, it's space, it's staff . Was in a tiny room on the top floor that was like an oven.
Review 29:Staff were very friendly.
Review 30:Calling the room I was in an executive single was very misleading - room 25 was most claustrophobic, while room 29 was better, it was still very cramped in the bathroom. The bed was not very comfortable in 29 - base and mattress didn't match.
Review 31:Friendly staff and very helpful
Review 32:I was charged for Parking that i did not use. Room service food was awful. restaurant food was over priced There was an argument going off between staff and customers when i arrived and i couldn't check in due to this.
Review 33:Wifi access should be free of charge. Would be nice if parking was free for residents.
Review 34:Excellent location. Comfortable room. Friendly, helpful staff. Relaxed atmosphere. Look forward to visiting again
Review 35:I despair when I walk into a dining room with music playing, especially when, as here, it is not quite loud enough to hear properly but just loud enough to be irritating. Breakfast was dreadful - the cheapest, nastiest pieces of bacon, an inedible sausage and (for heaven's sake!) a dollop of overcooked tinned baked beans. The room was tiny and poorly sound-proofed. This hotel charges for wifi access, which strikes me as needlessly stingy and old-fashioned. On the whole, this hotel is best avoided. I will not be staying here again.
Review 36:Being put in a room on the third floor for first night. Due to an injury was not good. We were relocated 2nd day and our stay was really good after that
Review 37:The staff were very helpful. The location was good. The meal was beautiful.
Review 38:The room was very warm, and on the top floor so all the heat obviously rose up there and I couldn't open my window very wide (which I would have thought is for safety reasons). A small fan was provided, but this just wasn't enough and only kept me awake. The room was also on the road side, and there was a bus stop was directly outside the hotel. - my cd player/radio didn't tune at all! -many of the tv channels were unwatchable due to poor reception.
Review 39:-Facilities, tea/coffee. -Breakfast was v good -Even though I couldn't park outside the hotel, the hotel were v helpful in suggesting alternative parking on nearby streets using a parking permit which I paid £5 a night for which was really reasonable.
Review 40:We were here for our sons wedding. We used the back garden which was ok but could be made much nicer if some gardening and tidying up was carried out! A little effort here could make a great deal of difference! Not enough serving staff at breakfast. Waitress overwhelmed!
Review 41:Wedding meal was excellent quality - served nicely with staff able to place exactly what we had preordered without questioning.
Review 42:Rooms fronting back garden preferable, much cooler, & quieter. Best is 1st or 2nd floor, 3rd floor hard work, no lifts. Frequent weddings or parties in summer, OK, but can be noisey if hoping for early night!
Review 43:Great location. Nice gardens for drinks. Easy to get buses or taxis right outside into town centre, & several eating & drinking places close by.
Review 44:The weather was hot in Bristol when I visited and unfortunately my roomwas too - it was like trying to sleep in an oven, small fan made nodifference. Slept with the window open but very noisy as hotel backedonto a main road. Room was tiny and they also need blackout curtains.Left room late on 2nd day and it was'nt cleaned or bed made - verypoor. Breakfast average, staff very average - a few more smiles wouldbe nice! Visit Bristol a lot as family live here but would never stophere again.
Review 45:Location excellent, hotel nice downstairs & nice reception
Review 46:Over priced. Room stank due to bring next to the gents loos. Could hear everyone's movement from upstairs due to the room being in the basement. Rudely woken by the 'pop man' delivering early as the room was also next to the cellar.
Review 47:Friendly staff, comfortable bed and lovely breakfast.
Review 48:Television was not operational in one of the three rooms we booked and did not have a cable installed for the signal so it was not just a temporary fault.
Review 49:function/dining room should have been a lot cleaner. bedroom window paint was virtually non existent
Review 50:very friendly staff, excellent food, great facilities, would return
Review 51:The hotel was generally good although the standard of decoration wasn't good - insufficient attention had been paid to preparation. The rooms was comfortable but the restaurant and bar furniture has chairs reminicient of school (60years ago) and the rough wooden tables did nothing for the appearance of these rooms. The restaurant menu would appeal to fans of Master Chef and although the food was tasty and well presented it wasn't my preferred carvery style meal of meat and at least two veg.
Review 52:The location in Clifton was excellent, close to a bus stop with regular services into Bristol, plenty of cafes, bars and bistros locally and a great fish and chip shop just around the corner.
Review 53:The sat nav didn't recognise the post code given but I did ring them and they directed me.
Review 54:The staff were very friendly and helpful. There was an issue with our hot water but they sorted it out immediately. Very impressed.
Review 55:My room was in the basement & by the men's toilets for the bar/restaurant. The wooden floors in the bar/restaurant made it extremely noisy & difficult to relax in the evening.
Review 56:The location is good. The staff were lovely; attentive & helpful.
Review 57:The room was VERY small with not much storage space. Definitely unsuitable for along stay. The bar was very expensive.
Review 58:We visited to attend a wedding at this venue, staying in the hotel was very convenient.
Review 59:Parking. Very few spots in the lot so I had to park on the street and my car was robbed.
Review 60:The location is waterfront and just a short walk from the brighton wharf. Quite nice.
Review 61:Room small.
Review 62:Friendly and helpful staff, the room and bathroom were spotless. The hotel has a shabby chic decor which adds character. Although parking has been mentioned as a problem, we were there for Friday and Saturday visiting friends and only needing the hotel for sleeping and found that there was always street parking available at £1 per hour (max three hours) and that worked just fine. The hotel has a small number of resident parking spaces it can provide for a small charge.
Review 63:Double beds are rather small for couples, avoid highest floors, as no lifts, best rooms face inwards to garden for quietness.
Review 64:Location perfect for enjoying Clifton shops, cafes, restaurants, and the bridge
Review 65:Conflict between functions and hotel guests.ie could not use bar. Another problem was on the Tuesday breakfast time,Dining Room not available and the substitute Bar area was too small for number of guests
Review 66:Helpful staff. Excellent well cooked breakfast especially properley cooked poached eggs
Review 67:Very nice service - they contacted us at booking to clarify our wishes for the rooms and we got the rooms we wanted. The hotel has a classic feel, sort of "old fashioned" but in the good way. The rooms very really nice with fresh fruit, a French Press and loose coffee or whole leaf tea leaves. The breakfast was very good in the nice restaurant. Great neighborhood with lots of small cafes, restaurants and shops - and the suspension bridge within walking distance...
Review 68:The hotel has a garden front & back, which offers a peaceful place to enjoy the outside. Inside, the staff are very helpful & the rooms & decor are elegant & tranquil.
Review 69:Room 11 was ridiculously cramped and ventilation non existent. Cigarette ends littered under tables in front garden. Taxi ordered unsuccessfully. Private party shut bar. Booking details mishandled. I could add more.
Review 70:Location.
Review 71:The descent to our ground floor (basement in my opinion) bedroom was down a grimey bed-sit land stair case that needs redecorating and a new carpet. The bedroom room was OK but needed really needed decorating. I'm 6'1" and I couldn't stand up in the bathroom as the ceiling was too low!!
Review 72:Location, Breakfast (very good), Function Room and Bar.
Review 73:Breakfast was poor no cereal bowls or side plates waitress grumpylike she did,t want to be there bacon cold and caked in whitewatered fat. Yuk.
Review 74:Reception
Review 75:Room 17 described as an 'Executive' room was little more than a damp box. requested move to another room. Given room 8 in which we were just able to move round the bed. Far from Executive space.
Review 76:Attention paid by staff. Cleanliness of premises. Good breakfast.
Review 77:Parking is a pain. Bathroom had been poorly decorated. Room was cramped.
Review 78:Nice location, beautiful building, nice breakfast, pleasant little garden at front of hotel.
Review 79:really pricy for such a tiny room, on top of this high price have to pay extra for internet and parking, breakfast although decent, is slow
Review 80:very helpful staff, ok breakfast
Review 81:Executive single was small and a bit pokey, hardly room to move around.
Review 82:Staff were very helpful when I couldn't find the hotel and with any difficulties.
Review 83:With rooms that tiny they should have given more thought to furnishing. The bed was horrible. Mini bar does not chill.
Review 84:Really great location next to Clifton bridge.
Review 85:Although I was lucky and got a parking slot, parking in and around this hotel is a challenge. I do object to having to pay for wifi in this day and age.
Review 86:Excellent reception staff, friendly and attentive. I was on business travel and the room was ideal for my purpose
Review 87:The room was tiny, as was the bathroom, could hardly fit in there. No duvet, sheets were clean but top blanket was not. Additional items where charged to my card after I'd asked to clear my bill and checked out. Very annoyed at this. Wifi is an additional charge.. Come on. Filter coffee in room.. Nice.. Nope it's stale and dusty. Gross. Fruit on arrival was nice however did not replenish during the additional days I stayed. Would not recommend staying here.
Review 88:Staff were nice Restaurant was nice
Review 89:Friendly & helpful reception staff - she suggested an excellent restaurant nearby as the hotel was hosting a wedding reception. Great location right in the centre of beautiful Clifton.
Review 90:Curtains could have kept out the light better. Tv could have been biggrr
Review 91:Staff were very cheerful & helpful. Room was small but very good vault for money. Bar was very nice, didn't eat in the restaurant.
Review 92:Unfortunately, I got a room at the front of the hotel - overlooking the bus stops and taxi rank - the latter being busy with noisey revellers until 01:30. Result - terrible sleep! Although I was assured a receipt would follow by email - it hasn't. Rather stingy with milk cartons and biscuits.
Review 93:Check in straightforward and hassle-free., Staff welcoming.
Review 94:Althought I only wanted to check my email box the paid wifi was too low and week to use it. The parking places should have been more.
Review 95:Everyone and everything was very friendly.
Review 96:Generally great but cheap blankets that slid off the bed and walls had damp marks. But a good price for a base in central Clifton that had everything we needed. Ground coffee and fruit in room was a nice touch. Attentive staff.
Review 97:The fact WiFi is not included in a hotel like this is ridiculous in the 21st Century. Also lack of parking is frustrating.
Review 98:Overall the hotel was great; friendly staff, good breakfast, clean, however for the high price we paid for the room (was a treat for a special occasion) it is embarrassing that they charge for WiFi and have no parking.
Review 99:Hotel restaurant meal a tad expensive. Room a bit tired and in need of refurbishment. No duvets! Blankets instead...a bit old hat.
Review 100:The bus service excellent...just outside the hotel.
Review 101:We were in room number 5 and we found it quite noisy as there was a staff door next to it which was in use until quite late and early the next day. The water in the shower on the night (about 2200) was cold.
Review 102:Location for my conference the next day. Good value for money. Excellent location
Review 103:The mattress and pillows. Stay would have been perfect if the mattress and pillows were more comfortable. But would definitely recommend!
Review 104:The hotel was very good value for money. The staff were excellent. Very fluffy towels and clean room!
Review 105:Friendly staff Good bar Good food deals in hotel Wifi available but expensive Cheaper to book through bookings.com than direct. Recommended course hotel
Review 106:The only negative is parking, few spaces and almost impossible to park in the area for more than two hours.
Review 107:Great location in Clifton, ten minutes walk from city centre. Lovely breakfast.
Review 108:Many small quibbles with the room; it was too small and very hot by the morning. The toilet seat was askew. The bath plug didn't fit. The TV was too small and only had a small selection of channels and no teletext. Sash cord windows look good but need secondary double glazing; traffic noise was intrusive (and next door room). We were lucky to park right outside, not sure where we would have parked otherwise.
Review 109:Clifton village is awash with excellent pubs, bars and hotels. The local architecture and gardens are splendid.
Review 110:Executive suite? We had to take it in turns to get changed. Bulb gone in main light. Blankets dirty (6 tried). No parking @ hotel. It would even be grossly overpriced for a student room. Sorry but never again. I would go for the stables next time.
Review 111:Receptionist tried hard to remedy faults Bathroom was clean
Review 112:Tiny room. No phone signal. No free WiFi. Charged £6.50 to park outside hotel overnight. Most other people on my course had complained about noise or heating.
Review 113:Good location. Staff were friendly.
Review 114:A nice place to stay when my husband was kept in overnight at the Nuffield Hospital, just a five minute wall away. Friendly staff with a relaxed atmostphere. My single room was really comfortable complete with mini bar and TV.
Review 115:Parking - very few spaces outside hotel. drove for 20 mins plus to find a parking space else where. Limited parking needs to be more advertised on site and that there is no other car parks near by.
Review 116:Breakfast was not the feast I anticipated for the expense. Room was not as large and luxurious as the pictures eluded to. Mini bar frige was broken and therefore warm. En suit was very small and not what we expected. Bed was uncomfortable small and sagged in the middle.
Review 117:Friendliness of the staff
Review 118:meals were cold - even the soup, and sent back the fish twice as was cold stains on the quilt no infomation in rooms re breakfast times and evening meal times no menu for the evening meal either small bed and no bedside table
Review 119:friendly staff - a lot were new liked the proper coffee in the room
Review 120:Shower was dangerously hot. No thermostat to regulate temperature.
Review 121:Staff very friendly. Room was in basement. Little dark but very cosy. Breakfast great.
Review 122:The (twin) room was dreadful. Very small, full of damp and adjacent to the gents loos downstairs. The bathroom was unnecessarily massive and dark with a tiny mirror and the shower was so low that even for a women you had to crouch down
Review 123:location - slap bang in Clifton near the Primrose Cafe
Review 124:I was on the 3rd floor....no lifts....made me realise how unfit I am. However the hotel made sure that my mother had a room on the ground floor. Very limited parking at the hotel but the staff were very helpful in directing me to parking in nearby residential streets and although I was a bit doubtful about this it was perfectly fine.
Review 125:It is a great location for visiting clifton village. A bus stop opposite for buses into the city centre. And great cafés and restaurants close by. The suspension and the downs a little walk away. Staff were friendly and helpful and the hotel comfortable.
Review 126:Lack of parking at and around the hotel The desk staff got our name wrong, and did not have us down for breakfast when we arrived. They did not know where some of the main tourist spots were in Bristol. The breakfast could have been better, not as good as the Premier Inn.
Review 127:Mainly friendly and were able to get a good taxi service.Efficient check out.
Review 128:room VERY small and wall flaking with what looked like damp. double bed against wall with no access for other person. bed also under open window.
Review 129:location was excellent. night porter was very efficient and helped with room move. other staff were very friendly.
Review 130:Would have liked a little more milk in the room. Also, parking and wifi were an additional charge, which was a pity but then the charges were displayed at reception.
Review 131:Small but perfectly formed single bedroom with real coffee! Delicious evening meal at No. 4 with good wine list and a really tasty, freshly cooked breakfast in the morning. Convenient parking too. Staff very helpful & pleasant.
Review 132:the receptionist (david) remembered that i was visiting someone in hospital and asked when i returned to the hotel if everything went well. very nice personal touch, thank you
Review 133:Six flights of stairs Dreadful room in old servants' quarters with damp in ceiling - supposedly executive double Bathroom not updated for 30 years Fire door locked Implied a public car park nearby but there is no parking
Review 134:The receptionist was very pleasant.
Review 135:Being double booked! Mini bar broken Out of date drinks in fridge Room cleanliness
Review 136:Location Period style Friendly and helpful staff Restaurant food. Complaint resulted in speedy resolution by Jess on reception.
Review 137:Very uncomfortable bed, tired decor (filthy carpet). My room was right next to the restaurant toilet and the door banged loudly every time someone went in. Also the hotel boiler sounded like an express train and went on for long intervals until late in the night. No ventilation in bathroom.
Review 138:Ideal location. Very helpful staff. Excellent selection of drinks in room: real coffee, herbal teas, etc, and fresh fruit.
The Fine Print
