Reviews for The Carlton
Review 1:Access to the car park is very narrow and so one has to be careful while reversing to the road in front. Heating is on timer and stops after 1 am to 5am. Bath room and its heater was cold and heater was not heating so I had to change settings. Morning lady was not polite and welcoming regarding need for heating. Single glazed windows do not insulate room well.
Review 2:The room is clean, fresh and nice. Bath room is clean and nice too. Restaurant is clean, tidy and nice along with fresh. Reception is good, has day newspapers and nice sofa benches to sit and talk. Breakfast is cooked and is mix of Continental and English. Parking is off-road and so car remains safe. Evening lady was very polite and nice.
Review 3:The short walk to the town centre was via an uphill gradient, challenging especially against a strong wind.
Review 4:All staff were first class, friendly, very helpful. My wife took ill during our visit , we found the hotel people very considerate, caring and most helpful. I must point out illness had nothing to do with the hotel. Warm and cosy at all times.
Review 5:My partner fell in the tab you need to have bath mates he had a broken toes
Review 6:I am always in the city so country side was quiet and I enjoyed it breakfast very good.
Review 7:Lack of communication and the fact they didn't tell me breakfast finished at 8.30. What normal hotel finishes breakfast before 8.30. Terrible customer services when I challenged the fact I hadn't been told
Review 8:The room we were in no 7, the light came through the window, just needs a thicker curtain and one could hear the traffic, the heating was not on after 9pm. We did let a staff member know but the heating wasn't turned on or up. The shower had no power. The rooms at the back behind the parking seem very nice and I would recommend asking for 1 of these.
Review 9:Great breakfast at a reasonable price
Review 10:My room was not serviced after the first night and towels were left outside my room with a bottle of water. The heating went off so it was cold during the night.
Review 11:The beds were comfortable.
Review 12:It happened to be the coldest night of the year so far, the room was cold.
Review 13:The staff were very nice, the room was cosy. Breakfast was good. The location was the main decider for us as we were visiting family nearby.
Review 14:Firstly checked week before and was told i was in the separate annex at the rear of main building. Upon check-in the very grumpy unfriendly owner? Told me i was in the main building 'but it is a very nice room' It was ok.....the main issue was the SLAMMING of doors from the kitchen / office below.... from 6am in the morning and in the evening. some of the furniture actually moved due to the violence of the slanming... very annoying as was awoken by this on 2 of the 4 mornings.
Review 15:Very clean....well apart from the carpets
Review 16:A bit silly that they couldn't do a breakfast order in the morning. We forgot to order the night before. Walked past the kitchen on our way out...chef resting on the fridge, 1 customer in the restaurant....
Review 17:On arrival the lady checking us in, was lovely. Our room very comfortable, situated toward the back. We extended our stay for another night. If we were to visit Rugby again, we would look to stay at the Carlton.
Review 18:The room was really small but the really bad thing was the bed. One of the worst I've slept in. Really cheap thin mattress. Awful and not a cheap room!
Review 19:The girl working there was great. I was hungry but the kitchen was closed. she went and made me cheese on toast for free. Really nice of her.
Review 20:Possiably only an issue with room 20 due to its location but the wifi wasn't an option. took 20 mins for an email to send.
Review 21:Staff were very helpful. Even posted items I left behind to me.
Review 22:The bathroom was not particularly clean, with hairs all over the bathroom floor. The bed was very narrow and I'm sorry to say, very uncomfortable. We found it way too soft. Although we asked for a quiet room, the one we got was on the first floor, overlooking the road. We were kept awake by noise created by pedestrians until the early hours. Eventually, at 2:00 am, a very noisy group stood right under the window, at which point I had no alternative other than to put ear plugs in, in order to get any sleep. From around 7:30 am, there was all sorts of noise from the surrounding rooms, making any further sleep impossible. All in all, given the combination of noise and a narrow, uncomfortable bed, we did not get much sleep.
Review 23:The location was very central and within an easy walk of the town centre. The staff were friendly and accommodating. The room was nice and big, plenty of cupboard and drawer space. It looked cosy and comfy.
Review 24:Bathroom a little dated
Review 25:Room Modern and comfortable. Was going to venture into town for something to eat, glad that it was raining so ate in the hotel and was very pleased with the food and value both evening and Breakfast
Review 26:Room was very cold and had to change, gloomy rooms poorly furnished. Shabby decor traffic noise, breakfast scanty choice, hardly any Salmon with the scrambled eggs not worth the price
Review 27:Reception staff, location near station
Review 28:The rooms were a little dated. While there had been some redecoration, the general amenity was disappointing. And the need for a comfortable bed was unfulfilled.
Review 29:The location of the hotel was good and was walking distance from the centre of town.
Review 30:Someone in the room next door was snoring wich we could hear through the wall and kept us up all night aswell as the noise from the traffic, when we opened the curtains we discovered that the windows had been previously opend and we're actually opened all night we hadn't realised as the curtains were drawn and it was dark when we first arrived
Review 31:Decor was really nice and clean.. Friendly staff
Review 32:The room smelt badly of cigarette smoke on arrival despite the window already being open. We left it open while we were out too but the smell didn't really subside. Bedding wasn't particularly clean, or perhaps was just old stains, but either way wasn't pleasant. For the price we paid too I was really surprised how small the room was.
Review 33:Good location; not necessarily easy to find but in walking distance of town centre without all the noise of late night traffic/people
Review 34:The website booking didn't correspond with the hotel. We had to book the last room left, which turned out to be a single although that wasn't clear on the site. Luckily, there were actually doubles free when we got there.
Review 35:The staff were especially helpful. They bent over backwards to make our stay enjoyable and effortless. They are a city centre hotel with lots of quiet ground floor rooms off the main road. A rare find.
Review 36:Public areas shabby and in need of upgrade. Really dull bar with unfriendly bar girl who just wants to close early. Hideous outdated decor in bedroom, but should have known as that's clear from the photos. WAY overpriced. I visit Rugby once or twice a year, and chose this hotel as it's close to the Station. Never again!
Review 37:Clean modern bathroom. Comfortable bed.
Review 38:The smallest room I've ever been in (including my en suite at home), grumpy staff, over-priced breakfast in cramped eating area, someone vaccuming in the hallway and banging my door at eight o'clock at night. The incontinence sheet on the bed summed it up. This is a B&B that serves evening meals - 'hotel' is a stretch to say the least.
Review 39:Room was nicely decorated. Very clean.
Review 40:Shocked to return to our room at 10am after breakfast in town to discover two window cleaners had let themselves into our room. Bags, purses, valuables all open for the taking if given the opportunity. Although all was fine, the experience left us feeling our security and privacy had been greatly compromised. The manager did write to apologise, but this should not have happened in the first place.
Review 41:It didn't really feel like a hotel due to the layout. Very small with no atmosphere but if you want a nice quiet overnight stay with dinner then it's fine.
Review 42:The cleanliness struck me immediately. Evening meal was excellent.
Review 43:Poor internet connection in the bedroom. Parking limited and can be inconveient if insfficient spaces available on site.
Review 44:The welcoming and unpretentious air of the hotel and staff.
Review 45:Shower wasn't great, slow water projection. Toilet was noisy. Bed was noisy. Creaky floor boards
Review 46:Location is good. Smart appearance and rooms are spacious. Decent value for money
Review 47:No bad experience, but we were lucky on both visits to be able to park on site, as the area doesn't look the best.
Review 48:Our second stay, and good experiences both times. Great to have a restaurant, as being able to eat in was a real bonus. Staff are friendly and helpful. The hotel clean and comfortable. And dinner and breakfast delicious.
Review 49:Being a lone diner in the restaurant i was sat in the corner very much away from the other diners. Every table had a flower and candle on with the exception of mine. Would have rather been sat next to the other diners as to not have felt so obvious I was dining alone.
Review 50:Staff were super friendly. I arrived early and they prepared my room early so I could check in early. Went out of their way to make my stay comfortable and enjoyable. Room was very clean and was generally lovely. Communal bar area was very quaint and lovely. Restaurant food was delicious. I only wish I could have managed to eat more. Plenty of choice and the restaurant staff were very attentive.
Review 51:A bit chilly in room could of done with an extra blanket in the wardrobe. Breakfast would have been better if there was more choice of juices and jams
Review 52:Decor, cleanliness, shower gels, comfort
Review 53:Not much i didnt like. Some of the time the WiFi dropped out and some of the TVs in the room are showing their age a bit. Stairs are steep to upstairs rooms but there are plenty of warnings - also no lift for those heavy bags.
Review 54:Quality of food, service and approachable staff. Free to come and go as required. proximity to railway station and other restaurants and town centre
Review 55:Being chased as to when I would arrive. The bed was small. The bedroom walls are paper thin. Attitude of breakfast room staff. Wouldn't unlock the door 10 mins early so I waited outside in the cold. No choice of table for breakfast as it was already predetermined like in a b&b guest house. Will definitely not stay here again.
Review 56:Not much really. Bar Lady who doubled up as the receptionist was very pleasant.
Review 57:Nothing
Review 58:I could turn the radiator off in the bedroom so i was very comfortable for sleeping. Sheets were soft and clean Location was great, room was up an alleyway so was very quiet. Breakfast was great.
Review 59:No bathtub in the hotel room. Outisde metal staircase to the hotel room.
Review 60:Hotel location is close to city center (10 min by walking) and to ALSTOM site. Selection on food in hotel restaurant and near by shops is huge. Rooms are clean and refreshed. Very nice service by personnel.
Review 61:Room was too small for the amount charged. Very cold room Ist morning breakfast didn't like it was streaky bacon. Drinks seemed expensive.
Review 62:Boxing day breakfast, parking available. Help to get a heater for room which was cold.
Review 63:the stairs are a bit narrow would be different for those with mobility issues.
Review 64:The service was exceptional and the food was up there with the best. would definitely recommend it and would stay there again.
Review 65:I left early before breakfast and all downstairs area was locked with no obvious key drop for early check out
Review 66:I had a relaxing and enjoyable stay. Room comfortable and restaurant served excellent quality food.
Review 67:Internet wasn't working. Bed was hard. I was at top of steps in courtyard and it was noisy with people coming in and out until midnight.
Review 68:Lovely scented room, room was spotless. Good shower and clean bathroom. Lovely bedding and décor. Room was nice and warm
Review 69:My husband and I stayed at the Carlton on Friday evening. When we arrived we were greeted by a friendly member of staff, who checked us in straight away & told us how to get to our room. The reception area is small and homely. Our room and on suite were very clean and looked like they had been recently refurbished. There were tea and coffee facilities in the room along with complimentary toiletries in the bathroom. We didn't have an evening meal but we did have a full English breakfast which was cooked perfectly. I would definitely recommend this small hotel and wouldn't hesitate On staying here again. Good food, clean and friendly staff, what more could you want!
Review 70:No wifi Walls in court yard rooms were flimsy do we were woken by early start of guests next door. We presume they were woken by our late night too. My friend said his bed was not comfortable although I had no problem with mine.
Review 71:Friendly staff Well located for station and town centre
Review 72:We have stayed at the Carlton three times now and we always enjoy our stay. The staff have always been polite and obliging even when we asked to move rooms as we prefered one we had stayed in before, Our room has always been cleaned to a very high standard too. We both look forward to further visits to the Carlton Hotel
Review 73:Front rooms are a bit noisy, but we have the windows open, if you are ok with closed windows this isn't an issue.
Review 74:Nice comfortable hotel. Great restaurant and helpful staff.
Review 75:I had a "small single room" for 2 nights : comfortable, spotlessly clean, well-equipped (hair-dryer, ironing board!), quiet. Brilliantly placed for the station and the town centre, just a few minutes walk. People really nice and on the ball. It's definitely my place in Rugby - along with The Squirrel for a beer!
Review 76:Dressing table chair very noisy room 17. Taxi number given they asked for money up front so never went with them know matter how many times I said it was recommended by your hotel.
Review 77:Very nice stay breakfast was amazing thank you plus lovely staff.
Review 78:Lovely hotel in the centre of Rugby. Rooms very clean, nice decoration and fresh towels every day. Evening meals exceptional and good value for money. Owners and staff lovely, excellent customer service. Will definitely return.
Review 79:The noise of water flow in the piping system in the annexe was a distraction. Water pressure is clearly very high. Noise disturbance could be reduced by lowering water pressure at stop cock
Review 80:Friendly caring staff and location close to town centre.
Review 81:Small car park which is first come first served. Otherwise it's street parking nearby.
Review 82:Clean room with a good size bathroom. Excellent breakfast. Nice dining room. Quiet at night (at least it was when I stayed there).
Review 83:Very noisy pub across the road, the music could be heard through the windows, luckily the music stopped just before we decided to go to sleep but could be an issue for anyone wanting an early night (i'm sure you could ask for a room to the rear and possibly wouldn't be an issue for a mid-week stay)
Review 84:Friendly staff, excellent breakfast, comfy bed, very, very clean
Review 85:Didn't realise that Restaurant was closed on Sunday.
Review 86:Close to town centre and railway station. Good Indian restaurant almost next door...Curry Club
Review 87:The hotel lies on a busy nog very nice street. We had a room at the front so the roadnoise was there. There are parking faciliteit however the passage to these places is very narrow and not for the fainthearted.
Review 88:A little more attention to catering for an ever increasing number of allergies or medical conditions that seem to be inherent in modern society. I am controlling Diabetes II by diet, so sweetner as an option on the breakfast table would have been appreciated. Catering packs of diabetic jam and marmalade should now be a standard option. One had it as an option, where I stayed recently but having requested it 3 times from both the restaurant staff and reception and not been offered it, I gave up.
Review 89:The room was in a detached area from the main building and therefore there was no road traffic noise. It was halfway between the main railway station and the town centre so not too far to walk for either. They had toothpicks on the dining room tables which is a rare thing these days.
Review 90:Location isn't brilliant the 'deluxe superior' double bed was tiny and not at all deluxe or superior Only parking for about 6 or 7 cars
Review 91:Hotel cleanliness was excellent Lovely big bath towels In room tea and coffee facilities were good Breakfast was good Staff were very polite and helpful
Review 92:Everything was fine for me .. I managed to get one of the limited parking spaces. The bar was a bit pricy but comfortable and adequate for my needs - I did have a drink at the bar while waiting for my friend. Staff were charming and attentive .
Review 93:I had to have a random visit to visit a friend. The hotel suited where I needed to be - I was delighted as it was far better than I thought it would be - I wish I had arranged to have dinner as they have a proper restaurant not just fast food / snack - I did not eat there but would do if I returned.
Review 94:I have learnt many gross swear words between the hours of 11pm-02300hrs whilst we were trying to sleep.. A beautifull kebab/takaway shop just outside our room window which is right next to the hotel entrance.... Never again...............
Review 95:Liked the price per night......£65 Overall quite sufficient..... no passion or feel about the hotel.... blandish......
Review 96:Room 17 is not as good as 20 but both are called Superior and are the same price. Room 17 bed was quite small for a double.
Review 97:Room 20 is excellent; restaurant was high quality.
Review 98:The car park is a bit of a tight squeeze & only fits 5 cars. There is other parking near by.
Review 99:So pleased I booked here rather than the Premier Inn on outskirts of Rugby. We were in room 20, which had a double bed and en suite. They room was fantastically clean & the en suite had a decent sized shower. Didn't stay for food but the menu looked good and was reasonably priced. The hotel is only a 10 minute walk to Rugby train station too.
Review 100:Outside from road i thought not up to much as the hotel is incorperated with other buildings
Review 101:Friendly Staff, once through passage pleasant surprise. Nice interior
Review 102:Lack of parking
Review 103:Clean and comfortable
Review 104:Na

Review 112:Shower not hot enough
Review 113:Convenience
Review 114:Small rooms, steep stairs and dated décor
Review 115:Good location, easy walking distance for town centre.
Review 116:Damp corridor wall. Room not warm. Old building.
Review 117:Clean modern bathroom fittings. Good food. Attentive staff.
