Reviews for Forest House And Bluebell
Review 1:It was a good location, close to amenities in Coleford. The owners and staff were friendly and very helpful. I enjoyed the stay, it was relaxing, comfortable and restful. The owners recommended some good pubs close by and booked a table.
Review 2:Sue and Kevin, the proprietors, were the most helpful hosts one could imagine. They did everything possible (including cooking a personally tailored breakfast!) to help us (a large family travelling with two very young children) and to make us feel happy and comfortable. We heartily recommend Forest House. Thank you!
Review 3:Really friendly owners. Booked us a taxi and served us breakfast earlier than usual because we needed to get away. A lovely couple. A good room and tasty breakfast.
Review 4:There was no restaurant, though this was featured on the website. It closed some months ago. So I had to walk into the village in the rain to find a meal in a local pub.
Review 5:Friendly staff
Review 6:The ladies were incredibly friendly and helpful, I tend to stay at chain hotels so it was a nice welcoming touch. 2 mins walk from the centre which is ideal and the room was nice.
Review 7:The photo was a little misleading in that I thought the property was more rural than it actually was.
Review 8:The owners were extremely friendly and welcoming. As the on site restaurant was closed, they were extremely helpful in recommending somewhere to eat, and actually rang and booked the restaurant for us.
Review 9:Great place with wonderful hosts and superb breakfasts. Charming accommodation in pretty town. Sue and Kevin made us really at home and were very helpful in giving us information about the area.
Review 10:Main room light would have benefited from a few extra watts; its dimness didn't flatter the room.
Review 11:Good looking building, located within easy walking distance of the Town Centre. A convenient base from which to explore the Wye Valley (in better weather than we had). Nice to be offered fresh milk for the tea tray.
Review 12:I had the most lovely welcome, nothing was too much trouble, and enjoyed a delicious omelette and accompaniments in the peaceful dining room. The bed was really comfortable and the pillows were amazing, so I had a really relaxing night, refreshing sleep and it was really quiet. Breakfast was awesome - so much choice and great customer service. As a lone woman traveller, I felt safe and very well cared for. I really hope to be able to stay again and really recommend it to travellers.
Review 13:Need to sweep up the autumn leaves at the entrance. On arrival it looked very neglected The restaurant no longer open was a little dissapointing
Review 14:Good breakfast Comfortable bed
Review 15:Very noisy at times due to doors slamming, just need to place some door cushioning pads or some sort of door restraining devices especially on ground floor.
Review 16:Very friendly hosts and staff.
Review 17:Bedroom carpet filthy Mould and grime on shower door. Bed linen curtains and towels very poor quality. No staff, had to wait 8 minutes to check out owner cooking breakfast, !! Both chefs had left so no evening meal breakfast very poor ( the first time we have eaten black mushrooms. Parking a joke I could go on and on. Will never stay there again or recommend to anyone
Review 18:Convenient for our travels
Review 19:Some areas of the property look tired and in need of refurbishment. Be advised there are no lifts and members of our travel party had to carry luggage up three flights of stairs. The entrance has no lighting at night.
Review 20:The Forest House is centrally located in the Forest of Dean. Staff was friendly and helpful and the rooms were large and very clean. The breakfast was plentiful and delicious.
Review 21:Really not what we expected. The hotel is more an old fashioned guest house that badly needs updating (but that would remove some of the 'character') Avoid Room 6 if you dont want to hear every tap running toilet flush !
Review 22:Dinner and breakfast were very good
Review 23:Lovely family run hotel, great old hotel with character and they looked after me really well after cycling 80 miles that day. Definitely best place in the town
Review 24:Not 1 bado experience
Review 25:Second visit here. Staff extremely helpfully. Evening meal and breakfast excellent catered brilliantly for food intolerances. Will come again
Review 26:pillows - didn't realise there were firmer ones available until the morning bedroom décor etc tired fatty bacon - one rasher only - half fat However, I appreciate that new owners need time to get to grips with what they have acquired. T
Review 27:fresh milk for tea, porridge, superb evening meal attentive hosts - but hostess should have more confidence in her staff, repeatedly asked for orders already taken - just a bit irritating, better than being ignored though
Review 28:Rooms and bathrooms needed a little updating.
Review 29:Very friendly staff and absolutely amazing food. They were very accommodating to all the families needs including a last minute pizza request! Would highly recommend the place to friends even though the accommodation itself needs a little updating.
Review 30:Wifi reception was somewhat erratic, although this is what we have at home as well!
Review 31:Friendly reception, even though we were quite late in arriving. We enjoyed our dinner in Bluebell.
Review 32:Room 2 was very noisy on the Saturday evening. Could hear toilets being flushed from all angles, floorboards upstairs and voices downstairs. The loud guests were sorted out with a call to management, but general house noises were a but much. Luckily the positives of the place outweighed this one negative.
Review 33:Very friendly staff, nice big room and bed. The location is close to a town so convenient for shops, and also very close to the forest of dean. Food in restaurant delicious but a little more expensive than we're used to.
Review 34:Minor: I noted that parking was a close call.
Review 35:Convenient location local to immediate village centre and central to Forest area. Sue and staff were helpful and nice to talk with. Rooms were fresh.
Review 36:Unidentified smell in room. We were offered chance to move rooms for second night
Review 37:Food in restaurant was very good - pity it was closed on the Sunday night
Review 38:Nothing bad to say - the owners were really friendly and helpful.
Review 39:My boyfriend and I stayed for the bank holiday weekend. It was a perfect location to explore the surrounding area. The hotel was cosy and clean and good value for money although the town is VERY quiet with nothing going on however that suited us as we just wanted to get away.
Review 40:The hosts were wonderful, really helpful and friendly and they genuinely did their best to accommodate every possible need that customers might have. The room was very clean and you could tell they pull a lot of effort and heart into the place. The restaurant was great as well
Review 41:There was no parking available at the hotel when we arrived so we had to park on the street.
Review 42:The offer of fresh milk to take to the room. It makes all the difference to a cup of tea. There were plenty of tea bags in the room.
Review 43:Just make sure you don't get bedroom No 6.The back wall which has the bed head against it backs onto the other rooms Shower and toilet!!!!
Review 44:Nice dinner ,nice breakfast
Review 45:The hosts, staff and food were so friendly and the environment relaxed clean and bright. My room was spacious, truly comfortable and had a very calm ambience, altogether charming. Definitely worth a visit again and highly recommend.
Review 46:Nothing
Review 47:Really good friendly welcome from the owners. The evening meal in the restaurant was excellent. We would definitely stay again if we were in the area.
Review 48:Forest house is family run warm and welcoming from the minute you get there! Great location for travelling into cheltnam Gloucester monouth and the forest of course! The room were great size and had everything you needed very good showers! We ate at the restaurant and all we can say is wow the food and service were second to none! We will definitely be coming back for a second visit
Review 49:Well furnished and comfortable room, lots of hot water with good water pressure and big fluffy towels. The staff and management are very friendly and helpful and the food is lovely. I notified the hotel that I am gluten free and they were able to provide GF alternatives for me, which is a great relief to me when travelling.
Review 50:£80 rate on booking when 75 published. expensive prices for the quality of menu 830am earliest breakfast.. way too late. plasticky bed covers/sheets
Review 51:nice welcome, easy parking
Review 52:The only drawback which isn't a complaint by any means is there is only a small reception area where you can sit down and have a drink however that adds to the ambience of the place.
Review 53:The management and staff were really helpful, pleasant nothing was too much trouble.I had a 3 tier wedding cake and centre piece glasses of flowers which needed to be inside and not left in the car over night.Sue (manageress)volunteered to help if it needed repairing. Both Sue and Kevin were pleasant and chatty. The staff were so helpful. The evening meal was of a high standard. The breakfast menu was extensive. You could mix and match any of the items. Kevin keeps a good draught beer lager and cider with a variety of bottled beer. Well worth a visit. We shall be back. It's a Cosy place. With lovely people.
Review 54:Needs a general update. There was 2 windows both with window seats. My 2 yr old son was able to open the windows - that was a but frightening. So child locks needed i would say.
Review 55:We booked a family room. Nice room with books/toys/games for the children. Needs updating.
Review 56:none
Review 57:The friendly atmosphere, the caring owners and pleasant staff made our short stay very memorable and could not be faulted and we would not hesitate to return.
Review 58:Nothing to dislike
Review 59:Everything The warm welcome when I arrived The food is mouth watering, tasty and excellent value for money The friendliness and kindness of the owners and their staff
Review 60:Location was central for our needs, and easy to find. Room very well set up, clean and quiet and all facilities there. Owner very helpful and friendly. Breakfast was excellent and really did feel like good quality local food was used. Only comment is that choice of fruits a bit limited.
Review 61:The water pipes for the room next to ours were noisey when the occupants used the bathroom.
Review 62:Great location, very relaxing surroundings ,excellent food breakfast & evening meal
Review 63:We loved how the owner, Sue, bent over backwards to make our stay special. She gave us fresh milk for tea, upgraded our rooms and helped us with directions for our next destination.
Review 64:Decor in reception (first port of call) however we were informed by new owners that they were in the process of renovating throughout (only taken over 8 weeks ago).
Review 65:Location, friendly staff, comfortable bed in large room and selection at breakfast,in large dining area.
Review 66:Sue and staff were very friendly and helpful, very nice room. Good evening meal and breakfast. I forgetfully went off with the room key and Sue was very good about it as I couldn't return it until the next day.
Review 67:Lack of proper lounge area and drinks/tea and coffee service. Rooms were comfortable, restaurant was great but there seemed to be something slightly lacking in-between. Perhaps I have 'hotel' expectations of a guesthouse though.
Review 68:Owners and staff did everything they could to make our family group (13) happy. We had a lovely stay.
Review 69:No bad experience, initially allocated room 2, asked if we could be moved to room with a bath and softer bed, no problem, moved to family room, would stay again once beds changed! Needs a lounge to relax in.
Review 70:Restaurant, fantastic quality and value, waiting staff superb, decent Prosecco at £20 a bottle. Couldn't find any fault whatsoever.
Review 71:The building is superb with lots of traditional features, the room was excellent and very comfortable, our food was perfect, the proprietors Sue and Kevin could not have been more helpful and the beers available were top notch.
Review 72:New owners who while still bedding in are perfectly lovely, accommodating and welcoming and seemingly have grand plans that will make the already lovely rooms even nicer. Booked due to attending a wedding locally but stayed on because the surrounding area was so nice.
Review 73:Rooms and towels a little old and dated. New owners have just taken over and said they were in process of updating rooms 1 at a time, WIFI a little slow in our room but it worked and was free.
Review 74:We were a little sceptical and wasn't expecting a great deal due to the price. I'm not one to leave reviews but was pleasently surprised with our short stay. The boys 5-7 were very happy the place was very child friendly and had games and Lego in family room. Great breakfast lots of choice
Review 75:The new owners where helpful and accommodating. The food was excellent and the staff efficient and friendly. I would not hesitate to stay here again in the future.
Review 76:My only hope is that with the new owner comes a little bit of new decore as it's a little dated. If they have the money to do so the hotel will be amazing as they definitely have the staff to support them.
Review 77:When we arrived the owners had owned the hotel for a whole of 3hours! They and the rest of the staff are wonderful, really friendl and eager to please. We brought our dog with us who was made to feel as welcome as we were. The food in the restaurant is amazing! Even if you don't stay here book a table because it is well worth it.
Review 78:We loved everything about it.
Review 79:Friendly,genuine welcome. My daughter and I were attending a wedding at Clearwell Castle which was only a few minutes away so this hotel was ideally situated. Everything in the room was perfect mainly it was lovely and warm to return to on a very cold night.Breakfast was very good, there was nothing not to like about this hotel. Would definately return.
Review 80:WiFi needs improving to make it useable in all rooms.
Review 81:Large comfortable rooms with modern conveniences. Great staff and wonderful food - nothing was too much trouble. Their website breakfast review is all it claims. Great value for money - we will return in the New Year 2015.
Review 82:Paid 55 pounds on booking .com for 1 adult 1 child. But when i went to pay it was 65 and was told its a good deal as its usually 80 for duel occupancy.
Review 83:Great room and food.
Review 84:Limited parking, had to park on street, but quiet side road, so not a big issue
Review 85:Good sized, attractive bedroom Excellent service from all staff that we came into contact Superb food, dinner delicious (recommend the raspberry pannacotta) and breakfast equally good (thick bacon, free range eggs)
Review 86:nothing to complain about.
Review 87:My fiance and stayed here as a friend was getting married at clearwell castle. Lovely comfortable b&b, brilliant location, staff very nice and helpful, nothing too much trouble . Great room, couldn't really ask for more! Planning a trip back in the near future.
Review 88:Coleford is very drab. Certain areas of property need a feather duster.
Review 89:Lovely owners and most of the staff are really nice, just one stupid girl behind the bar on our first night, far too familiar. The only place in Coleford that we would stay. Nice food, great breakfast. Requested a couple of special things for our anniversary and all done with a smile and care.
Review 90:Dinner service was a little slow & disorganized (not terrible though) and there were problems with the wifi going out
Review 91:Two comfortable rooms for parents & older teen kids, pleasant and helpful staff (gave us some good recommendations on things to see in the area), good food (both the included breakfast & dinner in the restaurant), attractive property
Review 92:Not a thing.
Review 93:A beautiful, fully restored building with a warm, comfortable ambiance. Charming host & staff made us feel quite at home. Within easy reach of the Forest - a great central position to explore this lovely region.
Review 94:Having to leave !
Review 95:Everything. It was the perfect weekend. Staff 1st class made to feel very welcome. Catered for dietary requirements . Food amazing. Cannot fault anything
Review 96:Damp in my room above bed was ugly to look at... Saw a better bigger room than mine and I paid extra for best room!
Review 97:Lovely little Hotel, needs touching up a bit but the food was awesome, worth visiting for that alone!! Staff are very pleasant and the owners are extremely nice and helpful... I paid extra for premium room then saw another room way better than mine so that was annoying!! That aside if they did some cosmetic work inside that would make me go back, as again the food was amazing!
Review 98:Thank you Sue and Geoff for a wonderful evening and morning. It was the perfect English send off for my parents before they flew back to SA. Lovely rooms, dinner and breakfast!! You will see us again.
Review 99:The owners are lovely and helpful. The food is excellent. Good location for touring the Forest of Dean and Wye Valley. Good sized rooms. Charming house, very clean.
Review 100:Floors were a bit squeaky and there wasn't an abundence of parking spaces but that wouldn't stop me from returning in the future.
Review 101:The staff were lovely and friendly and the breakfast was absolutely gorgeous. The rooms were nice and spacious and very tastefully decorated. Overall it is a lovely little place to stay and perfect for the purpose we needed as we were attending a wedding at Clearwell castle which is a short drive away.
Review 102:The only minor issue I had was that, given the popularity of the restaurant downstairs, if you are out and come back before 11pm it might be hard to park in the B&B parking and you might need to find parking on the side street.
Review 103:I was really impressed by how warm the welcome was at this B&B. The rooms were big and well equipped, the people very friendly and helpful and the made to order breakfast really nice and timely served.
Review 104:Very well received on arrival and made very welcome. Shown to our room which is a lovely touch and sadly lacking in most establishments these days. Lovely room, spotlessly clean everywhere. Probably the best breakfast I have had for years. Will definitely stay again.
Review 105:Coleford itself has little going on - but this did not bother us as we had our own transport and we were able to travel out to local places of interest. The location of the hotel wouldn't put us off visiting again though.
Review 106:Friendly welcome from the owner who showed us to our room and brought up fresh milk to go with the tea, coffee and biscuits provided. The room was very clean, well presented and a good size. Shower was also clean and worked well. The bed was one of the most comfortable hotel beds we've ever slept in. Breakfast was great and included local produce. Great value for money all round.
Review 107:Nothing...car park a bit tight but plenty of nearby places to park.
Review 108:Quiet central location, Friendly owners and staff, good facilities, nice clean and in our case large room, excellent food both for breakfast and in the restaurant. Highly recommended :-)
Review 109:Car park a bit small but no problem for my little car.
Review 110:Owners were very nice. My room was at the rear of the hotel so was pretty quiet. Well furnished and comfortable. Great dinner in restaurant. Equally good breakfast. Will stay again. Well located in town.
Review 111:nothing to dislike
Review 112:Very clean and comfortable. We where made very welcome. excellent food both breakfast and evening meals. good gluten free menu. Will be going back again
Review 113:Couldn't get back into the car park in the evening so had to park up the street but at least it was in a quiet area so my car was safe. I heard that the restaurant food was exceptional so maybe that is why the car park was full !
Review 114:Ideal location for attending a wedding in nearby Clearwell Castle. Good value for money as a solo traveller. Owner was very pleasant and very helpful even carrying my luggage to my car parked in the street. Nice size room and ensuite , all spotless.
Review 115:The owners of the Forest House Hotel have created a welcoming, friendly, relaxed and comfortable place to stay and from which to explore the Forest of Dean and surrounding area. In particular the delicious breakfasts were beautifully cooked and presented, and (unusually) proper thought had been given to vegetarian options - including sweetcorn fritters! We would stay here again without any hesitation at all.
Review 116:Food slightly expensive but good.
Review 117:Friendly and welcoming owners, despite us arriving straight from a days riding the trails at FOD. Good food, locally sourced and catered for different dietary needs. Nice little bar, good choice bottled beer. Great full English breakfast. Rooms clean and tidy with TV and free wifi. Willing to store bikes over night. Ideal location to explore FOD.
Review 118:Great hosts and food - the real traditional English breakfast!! A shame that we did not have time to sample the evening meal. Excellent value and atmosphere. We will visit again.
Review 119:The ambience created by the owners-professional and friendly. All staff were good. Very comfortable back bedroom with plenty of space. Lovely food. Good location. Really enjoyed our two nights there
Review 120:There was nothing to dislike
Review 121:Fresh milk for tea and coffee offered on arrival. Friendly welcome and the superb food in the restaurant. Everything about our stay was excellent.
Review 122:Nothing!
Review 123:Friendly and efficient, allowed early access to room so I could change for a wedding. Restaurant very good using local ingredients open to non residents. A very good stay,
Review 124:The village/town of Coleford has limited attractions but is a useful base for nearby Monmouth or beautiful Ross on Wye. The hotel is directly opposite the fire station but there were no call outs during our stay.
Review 125:Sue warmly welcomed my Mum and I and ensured our rooms were next to each other. The rooms were spotless, tastefully decorated and the power shower hot and roomy with soft, fluffy white towels and clean, crisp cotton bed linen. The breakfast was delicious 10/10 (we did not need dinner but the restaurant choice looked enticing)and the hosts accommodated our early departure plans. I would stay here again and recommend to others without hesitation.
Review 126:Lovely room, great breakfast and friendly staff.
