Reviews for Clarion Collection Harte & Garter Hotel & Spa

Review 1:The fact that the accommodation in the annexe was only available by walking outside and around the corner which meant that we had the same thing to do to reach the restaurant section for breakfast. Also, our room was at the top of the annexe which was only accessible by stairs and there were 57 of these which really was not acceptable.

Review 2:The room was very warm and comfortable and the staff were very pleasant and helpful.

Review 3:Bar service very poor. Late night Brandies served in what I'd describe as glasses from the bathroom to rinse your mouth. They weren't even the same size. When I asked about this the barman couldn't see the problem and was uncourteous. In a Windsor hotel you'd expect some of the staff to be English.

Review 4:The Bed

Review 5:Internet was available but good luck accomplishing anything. Constantly disconnected with terrible speed. Very loud rooms with creaking of boards due to upstairs patrons. Rooms were not dirty but not clean. Tub had a hard time draining and i was always standing in water. Smoke detector was flashing above bed every two seconds and I'm told that is normal. Good luck sleeping with the flashing lights and creaking boards)

Review 6:Location is the only upside to this hotel.

Review 7:Fantastic location. Opposite the Castle, close to pubs, restaurants and train station. Decent size room although a bigger bed would be nice. Good breakfast.

Review 8:The room was a huge disappointment compared to our expectations, small, unpractical, dark and cold. Facing towards the back of the hotel. Do not think for a moment that what you see on the pictures is what you get!

Review 9:Nice and hospital personnel Good breakfirst

Review 10:It plainly suffers from poor maintenance. Our room had a heater which worked, but could not be adjusted, so was much too hot for us. The receptionist on duty could not remedy this, and so switched it off and lent us a portable heater. Then as we settled down to sleep, the headboard fell on us. It had been fixed to the wall, but had come adrift from its anchorage and was just propped up. A phone call to reception was thwarted by the bedside phone being defective - we could hear them, but they couldn't hear us. We finally made them understand they should come, and when they did they quite quickly took us to another room. Which was faultless. But it does not speak well for the vigilance of the management of the observational skills of the chambermaids that these faults should remain undetected. Nor is it an isolated case. One of the toilets downstairs had a toilet roll holder about to fall off the wall. And most unnervingly, a part of the pediment in the dining room had been temporarily propped up to prevent it from collapse. To their credit, the hotel did apologise for our defective room by giving us a free breakfast (normally £10).

Review 11:It is indeed ideally placed for central Windsor - we were there for the theatre - and it is a hotel of character with a welcoming atmosphere.

Review 12:We felt that the seats in all the main areas, especially the restaurant were very grubby and we chose not to sit on them, choosing a non-upholstered one where possible. We felt they let the hotel down, a pity really as we couldn't fault the friendliness of the staff, the variety and quality of the breakfast, the clean bedroom and bathroom and the excellent location of the hotel.

Review 13:See opposite.

Review 14:Room was very noisy at night ! Lots of telling and noise from close by pub and there was a homeless guy laying in the doorstep of hotel which made me feel particularly upset. I also think the 'spa' was an incredible disappointment, was dirty and a waste of money!

Review 15:We had a castle view room which was fab, and the food in the restaurant was excellent, as well as generally nice decor

Review 16:Room was very noisy with air conditioning or fan that did not relate to the room and the smoke alarm flashed constantly through the night.

Review 17:Location was excellent

Review 18:To get to our room, you had to leave the Hotel walk to the corner, turn right, down the street then turn right again into a little alley, then access this locked door, then on to your room. This was the only part that was inconvenient.

Review 19:Location was great

Review 20:The spa is not in hotel you have to go outside and around the corner. They don't provide towels and you can can use spa for two hours as a hotel guest.

Review 21:Comfy bed nice view of castle

Review 22:Cleaning staff are noisy in the morning, so was unable to lay in (and I missed breakfast to do so) Bed and room a little tired

Review 23:The location is excellent

Review 24:"Spa" not attached to hotel - stretch to call it a Hotel & Spa when they are so detached. No discount for being hotel guest vs. member of the public. Very very noisy in the evening - didn't get to sleep until 3am because of people shouting in the street. Receptionist very unfriendly - demanded room number when we tried to enter the hotel in the evening, yet did not check this to anything - pointless control. No fridge in room. Toilet seat hinge broken. Blind in bathroom hanging off. All in all - hotel has seen better days!

Review 25:Location - very good opposite the castle.

Review 26:The only negative things I have got are... 1. The hallway carpets in the hotel could do with updating... 2. The spa facility going could with a bit of a clean... 3. The spa can be used by non-residents of the hotel for the same price - hotel guests should receive a discount. 4. The spa staff allow people to walk around the spa with shoes on - this is a little off putting.

Review 27:The hotel location is fantastic - right on the high street, with Windsor Castle towering above you. Shops, bars, pubs and restaurants are all a very short walk away, as is the train station. The hotel bar is small, but welcoming and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Although we didn't eat in the hotel restaurant, the space looked great and so did the menu. We had our room upgraded for free to a castle view room, and although the room wasn't massive, it was more than comfortable and big enough for my partner and I. We used the small spa facilities - £15 for two hours and it was nice enough. We ordered breakfast in bed and it was absolutely amazing - great food and great value for money!

Review 28:It was a little noisy if you are based at the new part of the hotel which is about 300 metres from a nightclub. But we did get to sleep in the end.

Review 29:Thank you for a lovely stay, great location and good value for money.

Review 30:No plug for the bath and the sink kept blocking up. Did complain, but nothing was done about it.

Review 31:Loved the cosy, spacious room with a good view of the castle

Review 32:The walls are very thin so we could hear the conversation of people on either side of us. The hotel is a bit dated and needs some work. I asked for information on champagne when o booked as it was a surprise for our wedding anniversary. They only messaged me on the day we were travelling to Windsor. The only other problem is that there is no parking. We parked in the King Edward car park for £20 a night

Review 33:It is centrally located so a great base

Review 34:found the breakfast could of done with a little bit more for vegetarians. And food wasn't to hot.

Review 35:Being next to Windsor Castle and shop bar and restaurants

Review 36:Fiddly electric heater in the room, takes a bit of getting used to.

Review 37:It is exactly opposite the Windsor Castle, and right next to the main pedestrian shopping street and the train station. Location could not be better.

Review 38:Not a spa hotel. There happens to be a spa there but it's totally extra and no free access for hotel guests. Small rooms, creaky floors, difficult to regulate temperature, pretty basic coffee tray.

Review 39:Excellent location, great breakfast, friendly staff

Review 40:Nothing at all to spoil our stay.

Review 41:The staff are beyond helpful and friendly: they come across as genuinely warm and are quite charming. Brilliant location. Lack of a carpark shouldn't put you off. The carpark they recommend you use is at most a ten minute walk away.

Review 42:If I was to find something bad which is extremely difficult I would say it would be to have a fridge in the room.

Review 43:Location opposite Windsor castle, walking distance to all shops and restaurants and a 5 minute walk to the river and Eton bridge. Great staff, lovely hotel full of character.

Review 44:Staff not giving correct information about breakfast times. I had tocall reception the night before as details not shown in the hotelinformation booklet. I was told 11:00 was the finish time. When Ichecked out at 10:40 the receptionist had to call the restaurant to seeif anything left as on that day it was 10:30. They were very helpful& we had a nice breakfast. So all was good.

Review 45:Location & staff

Review 46:At 4am there was a disturbance outside that went for 1 hour...it was awful to hear the violence of the group outside and the amount of time it took for the police to arrive . The receptionist in the morning was very defensive when I questioned her about events and although not the hotel's fault the lack of empathy shown when I described my disturbed sleep was not good. I felt the hotel should have shown some sign of good faith with a discounted stay but they didn't even mention it - conclusion would be that I wouldn't stay again and wouldn't recommend which is a shame as its a nice venue.

Review 47:Lovely views of the castle ; nice size room

Review 48:Tired property, was I am sure once fantastic. Food in restaurant was Christmas buffet - stayed on 19th December, was poor quality and not worth the nearly £30. Needs a serious revamp - loud from street at night.

Review 49:staff were very attentive - superb views on castle

Review 50:The ensuite needed some maintenance, the shower door of the enclosure could not be shut completely, the shower head could be of better quality, the towel rail did not heat up so was not working. The plug point could not fit the kettle plug.

Review 51:The room was perhaps a little tired but it was clean

Review 52:Wonderful location with views over the castle. Great for shopping & eating in Windsor. I found the staff very friendly & our room was really spacious.

Review 53:Saturday night was a bit noisy, with a party going on in the bar downstairs. We were on the 4th floor but could feel the bass until the music went off at midnight.

Review 54:Fantastic location, directly opposite Windsor Castle. The Castle view room allowed us to look over the walls and into the Castle. Excellent!

Review 55:Very noisy outside room from 6.30-7am onwards. Possibly goods entrance/exit outside room on 1st floor , but had an extremely disturbed nights sleep

Review 56:Directly opposite Windsor castle and next to the train station

Review 57:The fact that we were sent to a separate building than the one we booked. The spa facilities were fully booked so we were unable to use them. Staff didn't seem to have much in the way of customer service skills.

Review 58:The actual hotel is lovely however we were allocated room in the townhouse which was off the high street. This is not what we booked! The hotel wanted £20 extra for a room in the main hotel, on top of the £150 we'd already paid! The room was lovely but the view was of a brick wall... Not impressive at all. Breakfast was lovely!

Review 59:We were in a room at the back of the building and there was a lot of noise from the nearby clubs which unfortunately kept us up most of the night! Worth trying to get a front room - other than this the hotel is lovely.

Review 60:Lovely rooms and staff, great location opposite the castle.

Review 61:There were no problems as such, but getting to the restaurant from the main hotel was a little tortuous!

Review 62:Staff were efficient and friendly. Breakfast was wonderful!

Review 63:Not being aware of extra cost for use of spa (it's in the small print) or that this was only for 2 hrs use. Our view from our room - the roof of the spa.

Review 64:Location; size of room; spa facilities on site

Review 65:Staff on reception did not know what they were doing, they had all the booking.com details yet i had to log on to my account on my phone to prove the price i booked it at as they were trying to charge me the wrong amount. Two receptionist on duty, one of them was hopeless, it took over 10 minutes to check in on a prebooked room. They also gave one of our party the wrong room key, resluting in a trip back down to reception to sort it and then having to drag luggage even further. Bar staff were rude and very short with, they also had a "I couldnt care less" attitude

Review 66:Location is great for Windsor, i booked early so the room price was also good.

Review 67:rooms were small and located at the rear of the hotel too many stairs and not easily accessible after using the lift didn't think the payment was value for money also justbecause a function was on the restaurant was closed to guests

Review 68:Position of the hotel some of the staff helpful

Review 69:Did not realise we would be staying in separate annex space at the back of hotel. Far less attractive. Room was very large - but not as characterful as any of those on website. Disappointingly more corporate.

Review 70:Great location. Very large room.

Review 71:Not being informed beforehand that my room was at the back of the hotel which means a 3 minute walk out of the hotel down the high streetund to the back of the hotel. No lifts if you have heavy luggage, but accompanied by receptionist who offered to carry my bag

Review 72:Quick and helpful check in

Review 73:Disappointed for the money paid for a higher end room 410 that it didn't include breakfast. Also room and certain areas within the hotel need some TLC ( windows are falling out in our room )

Review 74:Staff at reception and serving afternoon champaign tea excellent

Review 75:We arrived and ended up being walked down the street to a lane way where a building was and that was where we were staying. Was apart from the hotel. They also gave us the wrong key so after we were shown the door of our room the gentleman left and we went to open the door. It had someone else inside. The guy on the desk wasn't too apologetic to be honest. That night we were woken up I would think over 6 time due to noise on the street. Over all I felt very overlooked as a customer of the hotel. Employees were bland and not very welcoming. If they even explained where we were going instead of just marching us down the street to our "hotel" room that would have been nice.

Review 76:Great location - in the centre of everything and directly across from the castle. Room was comfortable and clean.

Review 77:Cold shower! Noise from church on Sunday morning, rude unhelpful staff when we suggested we were unhappy with these issues. Expect a lot more for what we paid.

Review 78:Location is great, rooms very pretty, comfy bed.

Review 79:Quite basic- we had got married but we had no special treatment, even when I turned up in my wedding dress- I had to carry lots of bags up lots of steps! Breakfast etc a bit too pricey. Over 3 days there was no wifi- even though I was supposed to be free.

Review 80:The room was warm and comfortable. Location fantastic and lots of hot water for a bath!

Review 81:Spa was terrible. Lift wasn't working we know for over 2 weeks. Heating not working in room. Being ignored by bar staff.

Review 82:The room was lovely. Reception staff helpful

Review 83:The room was not as per the description, lift wasn't working down to spa which meant you had to walk 500 metres outside to get to it, somewhat spoilt the whole experience.

Review 84:Great location opposite Windsor Castle and next to all the shops.

Review 85:The hotel is a little old but quite charming. If you want sleek and modern then this is not quite it. Some of the appliances (bathroom) could do with an update. Windows could be updated (double glazing, new paint)

Review 86:Location is excellent! Room a little on the small side but was more than enough for one person. Very comfortable and big bed Was quite warm in the room but not too hot.

Review 87:Receptionist on arrival was very formal and not particularly welcoming. Single room was quite small, but not excessively so for hotels in the town.

Review 88:Location is great, right opposite the castle in the centre of town. Rooms are clean, well-appointed and comfortable. Staff at breakfast were friendly and there was a good choice of quality food.

Review 89:Our room was directly opposite the castle which gave it fantastic views, however we paid extra to have this room but it's windows were directly above a bus stop so we were kept awake until gone 3am by loud and rude people waiting for their bus home! Staff then woke us around 6am as they started moving loudly around the hotel.

Review 90:The Spa was around the corner from the hotel and opened to the public, which meant that we got stuck with a very talkative elderly gentleman that could talk the hind legs off a donkey. We wanted to relax. I thought it should have been 3 stars. It could do with remodernising the furnature especially in the bar area.

Review 91:The location, staff and food were lovely.

Review 92:The restaurant ceiling could do with being fixed as it seems they've had a leak. Also the carpet on the stairs could do with replacing, however just being picky. The rooms were faultless.

Review 93:The staff were so friendly, helpful and professional. Accommodated our every need. Location can't be beaten and views of castle are amazing!

Review 94:Water pressure poor resulting in toilet flushing problems.

Review 95:Location, breakfast, comfortable bed. Always feel very special when we stay here (this is our 7th visit). Christmas lights switched on whilst we were there and tree just opposite hotel was very pretty.

Review 96:Room was small, noisy and has had an ongoing noise issue. Sounds like a large truck idling right outside your window. Our second room suddenly had no tv or phone on the last night. Staff moved her to a smaller room, cold and noisy. They did provide a refund for that night only when we complained about the downgrade!! No view whatsoever out our room.

Review 97:Location is wonderful. Right across from the Castle. Staff were friendly and helpful

Review 98:Amazing experience overall, staff answered all questions easily, and seemed to value our time spent there. The upgraded double room was spacious and luxurious, but the difference between the castle view with balcony and the side / castle view without seemed a little large. But still very good experience

Review 99:It was money's worth and I have no complains

Review 100:The staff at reception was extremely friendly and helpful in accommodating our luggage as well as moving it to the room. A smile can go a long way and on vacations good natured staff can make you overlook many things a hotel may lack. :)

Review 101:No hotel car parking facilities had to walk about 10 minutes away to Windsor Eton Riverside Station for a suitable long stay parking place.

Review 102:Very central location, easy for visiting The Castle and lot of choice for restaurants within a few hundred yards from hotel, not to mention The Theatre Royal nearby.

Review 103:I know I booked with you and got a deal but that shouldn't be any different to what the rest of the party booked ??? The room was on the small side, there was a dirty soak left behind the curtain !! There was blue toothpaste marks up the wall of the bathroom, hairs in bath and shower. When showering and the soap suds were in the bath there was black fluff ?? Came from plug hole. Also there was a fan of some sort - not bathroom, going all night. Couple of light bulbs not working. .. Not brill.

Review 104:We stayed in room 1. The net curtains needed a very good wash but otherwise the room was clean. The carpet via the back entrance (past the spa) to our room is particularly dirty and caked with mud /dirt. The back door also needed a really good clean. Small details but they make a difference.

Review 105:We have stayed at this venue before. Great location for shops and central to Windsor. The room was incredibly spacious and is very good value for the money. Lovely clean bedsheets - crisp and white.

Review 106:Party held downstairs. Our room was above a bass system and kept us awake until 1am with banging headache and earache. Staff didn't care.

Review 107:The room was a good size.

Review 108:The rooms was nice but was a bit dimly lit

Review 109:The location of the hotel and the excellent breakfast in the restaurant with the fabulous back drop of Windsor Castle

Review 110:Confusion on arrival & sent twice to wrong room, Spa not great, equipment not working. Upgraded to Bridal suite which was stunning

Review 111:Location excellent, stunning Roll Top bath

Review 112:Very bad room Room120 on a Friday night with the nightclub outside is a complete joke Loud loud music till early early hours and then a big fight outside and more noise

Review 113:Location

Review 114:How cold the room was and the dinning area. When they got the bill wrong at the end of our stay and the girl ask some-one what to do and they were quite rude to her in front of us?.

Review 115:How close the hotel was to local attractions and amenities.

Review 116:No parking on site which at the beginneing was a big turn-off for me. However I actually really enjoyed the walk from hotel to station car park (5 min) as it is alongside Windsor Castle. Also the staff made it a bit easier by suggesting I unload my luggage at the hotel door and then go and park so I could walk back unburdened with baggage.

Review 117:Location was Great - loads of pubs and restaurants very close by. Although the room was smallish it was very comfortable and I was on my own so I didnt mind. Bed was great, shower was very great and bathroom a nice size, not pokey. Staff were really friendly and helpful. I had a faulty iPhone charger and had a very low battery so the receptionist allowed me the use of hers for an hour or so in the morning so as to give my phone a boost. Another thing I really liked was the freshly cooked breakfast instead of a buffet. They do this at quiter times of the year to avoid too much waste and it made for an exeptionally good breakfast. Sausages were very good quality. Wifi was also decent speed.

Review 118:Nothing

Review 119:The staff are outstanding the receptionists were so kind and helpful the housekeeping man on the 4 floor could see I was looking lost came up and asked if he could help me. Just a great hotel you should be proud of your staff. Great location. I would recommend this hotel to any body who wants a clean hotel and great staff.

Review 120:Reception staff could have been more welcoming. Plus the Stable Spa had problems so our booked treatment was hindered.

Review 121:Comfortable room. Staff in dining area excellent.

Review 122:First room we got had a perfect view of the castle, but the room was not very clean and it was twin beds pushed together and one was higher that the other, so requested to change to a room with double bed as I was with my partner. We got moved to another part of the hotel wich was in another building, the bed was comfy but extremely loud in the night as it was right next to a club. The reason I booked this was because of the spa and I was extremely disappointed as it was very small and very dirty paid for 2 hours couldn't even stay an hour.

Review 123:The location was perfect. Breakfast was good and the staff very friendly.

Review 124:Was not in the main hotel but down an ally off the highstreet. There was a night club not far away and all you could hear until 3am was the bass from the music. The view from the window was a brickwall.

Review 125:Was in a great location near everything!!!

Review 126:Ceiling in breakfast room and other part of hotel need sorting out large lamp shades in bar area need cleaning just general tidy up all over

Review 127:Staff great location of room great breakfast great situation of hotel spot on will stay again

Review 128:Nothing to report

Review 129:The colonial style and décor of the of the hotel and the room . The room view could not be better. In fact, if you looked hard enough, you could almost see into the Queens private quarters...the castle is that close ! The staff were amazing, really friendly and would do anything to make our stay just perfect. The spa is also top notch, the best in Windsor !

Review 130:Asked for a champagne bucket before the visit and asked again when we got there. On the Third attempt we got the bucket put in our room.

Review 131:The room was excellent very private and exactly what I asked for. It was a special occasion and the hotel was brilliant for our stay.

Review 132:We were shown a room which was awful, the decor could be lifted in most of the rooms, but after my compliant the staff offered another room which was much better still a little tired looking but clean comfy and spacious

Review 133:The staff were excellent and so was the breakfast

Review 134:Even though we got a view of the castle, it was too noisy to sleep. Therefore, i would suggest to rather ask for a quiet room rather than a view

Review 135:The hotel room was very nice and spacious. The staff was always friedly

Review 136:Pictures on the Web site are NOT a reflection of where the "Room" is. If your a single lady, make sure your room is in the HOTEL and NOT the rooms down a dark alley with broken bottles and urinating males outside. If you have high heels and long dresses for your evening out, be warned that this is not the place for you. Dirty tea stained walls and very bad damp / smell in room which according to front of house manager, that's down to the age of the building......When advised / questioned about this, he said he would look for himself and call me with further feedback...That is now a week gone and no follow up call.

Review 137:Our room was at the back of the hotel, when booking said I had a view but the window was frosted glass and when opened all you could see was air conditioning unit, and no telephone in the room as advertised

Review 138:Bar staff not friendly Reception staff very busy Checking in wasn't good had to wait for room

Review 139:Location great Breakfast and breakfast staff great

Review 140:We didn't like the noise at closing time from local night clubs people shouting even though we had our windows shut and was on the top floor it still woke us up at 2 am......

Review 141:The location was great as was the breakfast, the staff were very pleasant and our room was fantastic overlooking Windsor castle lots to see and do locally.

Review 142:Our room in the other building was lovely and enjoyed the views of the castle during breakfast. We would have liked more information on whether the stay included spa use as this was unclear. Great location and value and we would stay again.
