Reviews for The Norman Guest House
Review 1:The Guest house was so comfy. The Inn keeper was so kind and available with great information on local food. Location from ferry port was so convenient. Cab was easily accessible and close to guest house.
Review 2:Bed not comfortable. Not ensuite but actually had shared bathroom to ourselves.
Review 3:Location good for us. Good hospitality. Breakfast good. Very clean.
Review 4:Leaving.
Review 5:Laz and spouse were friendly, helpful, genuine and cheerful. Breakfast over the top good and plentiful. Convenient location. Room was cozy and comfortable.
Review 6:The place is accessible from town centre and the train station. Lass was very nice to offer us a bigger room, I liked it when we came back and we have fresh towels and the room was made up again, breakfast is great you will be offered top up of coffee, tea, toast and fresh juice. the price is reasonable but above all is how the owners treats you. I highly recommend this place.
Review 7:I really didn't like being up all those stairs and if I booked again I would request a room on the first floor.
Review 8:Very comfortable room and the host was most charming and helpful. Excellent breakfast too.
Review 9:The hospitality of the landlords. There was an issue with the water in our room so they efficiently moved us to another room and were very apologetic about it.
Review 10:The owners were excellent, they went out of thier way to help me with being gluten and lactose intolerant. very very helpful. gave us some local knowledge on where to go and see. husbands food was excellent
Review 11:We had to be out at 3_00am for the ferry so no breakie. No ones at fault.
Review 12:Friendly and very helpful. As my husband has a disability they offered to move to another room but we were fine.
Review 13:The house has 3 floors which would not suit all travellers as the stairs are narrow and steep to the third floor.
Review 14:Breakfast excellent, the couple that operate this B & B are very good at what they do. Friendly, helpful and efficient.
Review 15:Nothing really. If I had to say something the beds were a little firm but that's just personal preference.
Review 16:Owner was lovely very helpful. Amazing location for ferry.
Review 17:The only downside is the rooms don't have on suite bathrooms but this is only a very minor niggle and in no way detracts from the overall experience and would not put me off staying here again.
Review 18:The staff were extremely helpful and couldn't do enough for us. The hotel was very well placed for traveling from Dover too.
Review 19:Set over a few floors so might pose problems for some guests. Also opposite train station but noise not a problem for us.
Review 20:Friendly owner who suggested nice restaurant. Made you feel very welcome. Breakfast was excellent. Very clean rooms, comfy bread. Wifi worked. Parking on street.
Review 21:Extremely friendly and polite host, always ready to help; traditional English room (good size and well-equipped; room spotlessly clean and well made up in the morning); wifi worked very well; B&B situated directly opposite train station (only 30 minutes away from Canterbury); close to city centre and supermarkets; trips to Dover Castle and the White Cliffs
Review 22:There was considerable road noise and the close proximity to the station caused a problem in the early hours when a maintenance crew started work with what appeared to be an angle grinder
Review 23:Comfortable romm and proprietor was very friendly. We left too early for breakfast
Review 24:Our room was on the third floor. Our suit cases were carried up and down for us, which was great, but would have preferred a room lower down.
Review 25:Opposite railway station as we caught the train to London.
Review 26:We were expecting to have parking reserved in the hotel car park and this was not the case. This may have been our error in communication, and there is a lot of on street parking, but would recommend others to make sure they have a space reserved if that's your expectation.
Review 27:The owners are friendly and helpful. The room was a good size and comfortable for the whole family.
Review 28:Location on main road and next to station was rather noisy. Wifi didn't work in our room ( although owner offered us a chance to access it by sitting in the dining room.)
Review 29:Very friendly, helpful owner. Room was well decorated and equipped.
Review 30:I don't like shared bathrooms. very hot day when we were there ,found that the windows didn't open very far .very stuffy night
Review 31:the owners were great , ,breakfast was fantastic.really clean room ,beds comfortable
Review 32:Bed wasn't the best ive ever slept in but not the worst either
Review 33:Very friendly owner was very helpful he even got up early to cook our breakfast as we were leaving earlier than breakfast cooking times
Review 34:The owners were absolutely wonderful to work with. Excellent communication and they went the extra mile for us. We had an exceptionally early train to catch and they had a hot breakfast prepared over an hour earlier than their usual starting time. A must stay if you are in the area.
Review 35:the stairs are quite steep heading to the rooms and on the 3rd floor it is a little warm. There is no ac.
Review 36:The place is well kept. Clean and has all the things that you'll need. The breakfast was lovely. Staff are very polite and helpful
Review 37:The husband and wife were extremely helpful and courteous providing us with much useful information about places of interest in the local area. Our Australian member was visiting a local war grave site and photos were exchanged with Marie, the landlady who made a special effort to arrive in the morning to bid us a kind goodbye.
Review 38:Nearby railroad and birds produce a lot of noise early in the morning if the windows are open. If they are closed, the room gets stuffy very quickly because it is small, as is usual in this part of England.
Review 39:Parking was available, internet was working well. The owner was very kind and welcoming and recommended a good pub for dinner.
Review 40:The parking had a very narrow entrance. But the host guided my husband very well.
Review 41:The host was very friendly, and the breakfast was very good. The beds were also very good.
Review 42:Too much noise comes from the station and from the road. The rooms on the last floor are like sauna, very hot there.
Review 43:Very close to the train station and very clean.
Review 44:Just need a little update with decor in bedroom.
Review 45:very good service and able to do very early breakfast before we catch early ferry. Owner are very polite and very helpful.
Review 46:We really enjoyed our stay at the Norman Guest House. The couple running it were very warm and accommodating and the facilities great. It's a simple but very warm and comfortable stay.
Review 47:Not so keen on the tight staircase but this is an older property, so not unexpected.
Review 48:Greeting was warm and friendly, owners very welcoming and helpful.
Review 49:The nearbye trainline disturbing in the back rooms.
Review 50:The room was very well prepared. The breakfast tasty with ample refills of coffee. The parking secure.
Review 51:WE LOVED EVERYTHING!!!
Review 52:Les was a wonderful, gracious host. He was very knowledgeable and extremely helpful!! Overall B & B Clean and exceeded what we expected! Delicious breakfast, lovely room. Couldn't have asked for more!! GREAT value for the money!!4
Review 53:Stairs to room - I had a heavy suitcase and the room was a little hot for us Australians - not sure how to turn it off. Street noise might worry some travellers!!
Review 54:The breakfast and the service were great
Review 55:The family room (2 adults and 2 children) was prepared and ready to go on our arrival, so many hotels/B&B's just don't get this right. Such friendly staff who looked after us very well.
Review 56:Nothing! Our only regret is that we had to rush for an early morning ferry. Breakfast had been offered at a very reasonable rate.
Review 57:Very warm welcome. Useful info for eating out in Dover. Host seemed to make every effort to make our short stay pleasant and comfortable.
Review 58:You can hear the neighbouring railway station and pub a little bit at night - but if you're used to town/city noises, you'll sleep right through!
Review 59:The staff were incredibly friendly but also discreet (British :) ) - happy to talk at breakfast and answer all our questions, but never imposed themselves. The beds were just the right hardness/softness.
Review 60:The hosts were very very friendly! Extrodinary service oriented! We felt really comfortable in the guest house! I would definetly recomend this place!
Review 61:Nothing
Review 62:The location was excellent. Easy walk to town centre. Our room was lovely, very clean and well appointed. Great breakfast included in the price and served by our hosts Laz and Dev who went out of their way to ensure we had everything we needed. We left a bag of medication behind when we left and Laz chased us all around town until he found us. Very grateful!
Review 63:The owners are incredibly nice and helpful! It seems they will go out of their way to make sure you are happy during the stay. Location is just across the road from the train station, which was perfect for us. Cannot imagine a place being any cleaner - everything seems like new!
Review 64:Didn't know we had to be in early, was told not to come in late after the first night out in town until 2am and not been particularly noisy. There was nothing on the website to indicate that the owners required guests to be in their rooms by any particular time, were made to feel quite uncomfortable.
Review 65:Good location for the ferry and town centre
Review 66:The breakfast was great and the owners very welcoming and thoughfull. The house was lovely and spotless, and make you feel in home. We would definitely recommend it
Review 67:Nothing (rooms on upper floors of a Victorian house, I would not bring here my 90 year old mother)
Review 68:Very courteous owners, good clean facilities, comfortable beds, very good breakfast. Thank you!
Review 69:We were made to feel very welcome, the hospitality was superb, we were going to miss breakfast on the first morning of our stay due to an early ferry but the owner got up earlier to make our breakfast for 6.30. Excellent !! The owner was so friendly.
Review 70:We stayed in an ensuite room, on the top floor (perhaps the only onethey had) but as overseas travellers and 2 suitcases 27kgs each, toughgoing getting to the top. Both side lamps did not work, but one wasfixed immediately.
Review 71:Breakfast was good, everything thing else ok.
Review 72:The owner helped me to park my car in private. Bedroom and bathroom were what one may expect. Reception when arrived was charming. I would stay there again when in Dover.
Review 73:Town closes up at 5:30 - nowhere to eat dinner except 2 carryout places.
Review 74:Very close to ferry, nice short walk to downtown and port/waterside. Staff was friendly, room was clean and comfortable, breakfast good too. Nice place to stay!
Review 75:There are some vibrations from nearby trains which might disturb you if you are a light sleeper.
Review 76:Everything was clean, breakfast was good with very personal service. Excellent location near the train station.
Review 77:This is a relaxed and comfortable establishment with an excellent location. We were made to feel extremely welcome by the lovely host and would definitely recommend a stay here.
Review 78:There was nothing not to like
Review 79:Friendly helpful owner Excellent breakfast Secure parking Clean comfortable Guest House Close to pubs and restaurants
Review 80:Pillows
Review 81:Straight over road from train station & few minutes drive to ferry. Spotlessly clean. Pleasant, friendly and very helpful owners. Cereals if wanted and full English breakfast and toast with choice of brown or white bread. Bed, mattress very comfortable.
Review 82:First time in a Guest House by a train station and on main road... noisy and with vibrations from the trains and traffic... uncomfortable bed... and could do with black out lining on the curtains from the bright street lamps and illuminated train station. My fault for not doing a more in depth check on the location before hand.
Review 83:Fantastic for the promenade, Ferry, Castle, Petrol station etc... Delightful hosts, very clean and nicely decorated with delicious breakfasts, fab shower facility and free WIFI, on road parking available and overall great value for money... you get what you pay for.
Review 84:Wifi a bit fickle depending upon where you were in the house. Everything else was great.
Review 85:Very friendly owners who went out of their way to remember our names and get to know us. Family room was perfect for a family of 4. Breakfast was delicious. Beds comfortable.
Review 86:Nothing.
Review 87:It was close to what I wanted to see ie Castle, museum, Roman house, shore. It was right across from the train station. Excellent breakfast and never had trouble sleeping. Within 100 meters of a convenience store (water and small items). The owners happy to give advice and very friendly.
Review 88:Road noise. ( ask for a room towards the back).
Review 89:Lizards instantly makes you feel welcome and at ease. He is quite charming and very efficient. Just what you need after a 1000 mile drive! The B&B is good, clean and comfortable. The breakfast is just out of this world.
Review 90:A very cosy hotel with home atmosphere, located conveniently close to the ferry terminal. Nice clean room, tasty breakfast and friendly & helpful gentleman host.
Review 91:We knew the guest house was by the train station, and there was noise from the trains all day and night. I think we got somewhat accustomed to this by the second day.
Review 92:Norman and Des were great host/hostess! Room was charming and comfortable. Great breakfast and service. Nice location for walking to restaurants, the shore and the Dover Castle. Good value!
Review 93:the room was very small tiny window that only pushed out about 4 inches and the room was so hot and stuffy not comfortable at all. the noise from trains at the railway was all night
Review 94:location to railway, breakfast was good

Review 96:Noisy trains right beside this location that run all night.
Review 97:Lovely owners, friendly and they remember your name. Great location for anyone arriving by train. Excellent breakfast and extremely clean facility.
Review 98:Leaving my car parked in front of the guesthouse on a busy road. We had luggage for 2 adults and 2 children that we had to carry up 2 flight of stairs.
Review 99:The staff were friendly and helpful and the location was handy for Dover ferry.
Review 100:The staff were very accommodating as we were traveling from Scotland. There was big delays at several points of our journey and honestly did not think we would make it down. We got there in the early hours of the morning and they were kindly enough waited for us and let us is. We were very grateful for the kindness after our stressful journey. Unfortunately we did not have time to get breakfast as we had to catch our ferry. But the while place smelt amazing. I would definitely visit again!
Review 101:Breakfast times were restrictive (7 - 8.30am) and inflexible. We prefer a lie in when away for the weekend, so we skipped breakfast. Noise from trains disturbed sleep Wifi did not reach our room Walls are very thin so we were woken by other guests
Review 102:Location is perfect for catching the train to & from Dover
Review 103:Room excessively hot and sharing a bathroom although this did not actually cause any problems in the end.
Review 104:Room was a good size with 3 beds and owner was very welcoming
Review 105:Located directly next to a train track means rumbling and noise. Room gets rather warm with no way to cool off. WiFi did not work in room, on stairs, in breakfast room, anywhere we tried actually. While the devices connected to the WiFi, we were unable to use the internet at all.
Review 106:Very friendly and helpful staff, good and tasty breakfast to start you off into the day. Despite having shared facilities, it was very clean. Easy to reach by train and car. No more than 10 minutes from Ferry Terminal by car.
