Reviews for Contractors Guest House
Review 1:noisy during the day . when the car goes into the yard, run over on the street sewer cover. the sewer lid rattling is very very noisy . good - quiet at night , the car is not running. it is silence :)
Review 2:clean , warm, a quiet , good night's sleep, free tv, free wifi, free tea. fridge, microwave oven, cutlery ,
Review 3:Car park, about 100yds away, behind sister hotel, going to be a problem when that opens up. The railway line at the rear of the property. Bit mean with the sugar, tea and coffee..2 satchets of each
Review 4:The price, one of the cheaper places in Wycombe. Pub across the road served good food, excellent value. The name says it all
Review 5:Uncomfortable bed and only 1 pillow which was very thin also bathroom light and fan is on a sensor and stays on for too long which makes it very noisy at night
Review 6:Good location and plenty of parking
Review 7:we where a couple which means we were 2 but you gave us ONE towel please sought that out that was one dissapointment thing .
Review 8:It was very nice no disturbance it was like we are at home very simple I will book again next time
Review 9:noise, noise noise. Windows don't shut properly so outside traffic noise comes in, building is full of saniflo unit so every time anyone uses a toilet there's 5 min of noise... far and away the noisiest building i've ever been in and impossible to sleep in
Review 10:location was good and a relatively nice building
Review 11:The "Car Park" was a bottle and can dump with the distinct possibility of having a few syringes around , i had to park back up at the hotel for fear of having no car to come back to Had the cheek to charge a key deposit, then tried to deny that there were extra charges. I was told by another guest that the room was slightly larger than a prison cell
Review 12:There was a bed and four walls. The Bird in The Hand pub (not the Lap Dancers pub)
Review 13:The room was in a separate house from the hotel a quarter of a mile away with a huge pile of rubbish outside. We only had 1 cup and a used spoon between us. The bathroom was small but ok. The pillow was the size of an after eight mint. The hall and stairs carpet was dirty and the front door was difficult to unlock . All in all shabby
Review 14:The room or flat was old and shabby looking with handles hanging off the hob was old and looked dirty as was the decor glad we changed it to only 1 night but when we drove down to drop the key back at the Buckingham hotel they did say they did cooked breakfast there so we stopped there its not called the contractors hotel though so not easy to find
Review 15:We came to go to hellfire caves and the high Wycombe park we achieved 1 out off the two as the park didn't open until 2pm which I thought was a bit late so we started back home and went to Windsor great park instead
Review 16:There are a lot of negative reviews on this hotel, which as far as I'm concerned are completely unfounded. The rooms are clean, the staff are helpful, I was in a top floor room, and had no problems with water pressure and had excellent wifi.
Review 17:The only thing I would say is that when the credit card machine was slow to work the reception person tried to blame it on my card, rather than the connection which I found to be a bit strange.
Review 18:We liked the rooms as they were self contained clean and comfortable. The breakfast was great. There wasn't any noise from other rooms. Free parking.
Review 19:Very hard to find and the new name was not on the confirmation email or any other correspondance so wasted a lot time finding it.
Review 20:This hotel is very clean and everything we needed for a short visit.
Review 21:The name of the hotel is Contractors Hotel yes? Why is Buckingham on the door?VERY confusing when trying to find it at night
Review 22:Convenient for town center
Review 23:The room 17 was far to small for a double. Couldn't fully open bathroom door as it hit the end of the bed. The room should really only be used as a single
Review 24:The room was clean and tidy facilities in the room where very good also
Review 25:the wc facility is far too small and was in need of repair under the sink is badly finished therefore allows dirt build up, shower was powerfull enough but wouldn't suit a larger person, glass shelf between mirror and sink is a terrible idea as I like to brush my teeth over the sink and really wasn't possible. I think corner shelves would be more suited.
Review 26:The bed was comfortable, shower power was good.
Review 27:When I arrived I had some trouble finding the hotel and had to check into the Buckingham hotel (where their admin is) and was offered a room in that Buckingham hotel. That was fine and negated the need to move again. I was late to arrive so it was a bit difficult to find a parking space; my room was right in the top of the building and at the end of a small corridor; no doubt it complied with all the health and safety/fire regulations but I don't like to sleep on the second floor with only a one way out. The decor and rooms were all modern, clean and functional. I would use the hotel again but not that room.
Review 28:Car parking was poor, has to park behind another house then walk to where I was staying. Funky lot and tbh just seemed dodgy although nothing happened to my car for the week I stayed.
Review 29:Everything you need for a business trip
Review 30:Said to hubby not many women stay here. Why? There's no mirror to dry my hair. Lack of plates/cutlery for eating evening meal
Review 31:Price, free parking and wifi
Review 32:The area was a bit run down & the road, well track up to parking (about 50-75 metres from building) was really rough but seemed sage & secure
Review 33:Bed, after a long day (although only a single) was v comfortable
Review 34:Breakfast was a flat rate and could have been presented better.
Review 35:Room was spacious and beds were good. Had tea making facilities and cleaned and replenished each day. 15 min walk to shops.
Review 36:The covers were soft to my skin. The room had an en suite toilet, sink and shower. There was a kitchen sink, microwave, fridge, kettle and tea and coffee making facilities. It was clean and the window could be opened well. If I needed to stay somewhere in High Wycombe this would be my number 1 choice.
Review 37:No parking on site when there say there is, bed far to hard & to noisey with train at the end of the garden, wouldn't stay there again.
Review 38:Nothing
Review 39:The rooms got ridiculously hot, made it hard to sleep in, but other than that nothing.
Review 40:The rooms were great for value, also good that were had a communal area for us as a team to gather. rooms were lovely, comfy beds.
Review 41:Arrived at a really nice looking hotel then we got directed to a basic rough looking council house , , doors slamming all night , the smell of drugs and smoke , less than average room, dirty walls ...
Review 42:The staff was friendly
Review 43:Only thing that would make the stay better would be a small shampoo and wouldn't mind paying a few pounds extra for a hot breakfast.
Review 44:Staff very helpful, room comfortable
Review 45:the bins overflowing and stored at the front entrance,6 bins full .saturday night 6.00 rat scuring around the front entrance, cleaners knocking on our doors at 9.10 am although it is a 10.30 check out
Review 46:basic accomodation in a central location
Review 47:If I'm honest, I was a little worried that one of the smoke alarms had been removed from the hallway. I had 3 children scattered across 2 floors. However, there were other working ones. One of which seemed a little shoddy but it worked. I would have thought a hotelier would have replaced them. I think legally there were enough in the property, but doesn't fill you with confidence.
Review 48:We had booked the hotel as it offered the best value for us. 2 adults and 3 children. When we arrived we discovered we had a 2 storey apartment, relatively new, very clean, lovely views. Definitely wasn't expecting that. It was lovely.
Review 49:Nothing really. It' on the A40 and opposite pubs, but nothing terribly negative even with them present
Review 50:It was clean, easy to access, perfectly acceptable for an overnight stay for someone seeking budget accommodation
Review 51:Pillows are very thin, even with two together and each time I stay it's always in a different building to the check in.
Review 52:Cheaper than other accommodation nearby
Review 53:There wasn't always somebody manning the reception desk so you would have to call a number to ask someone to come or try and find them. Thee was a breakfast service but we left before it was started so can't comment but there was no dinner or food/drink service open on the night we stayed which was a Saturday.
Review 54:The room was well facilitated with en suite, TV, iron, fridge, tea and coffee making facilities and we had access to free wifi.
Review 55:Car parking -couldn't park on site second evening had to park on road
Review 56:Nice mordern clean Microwave Fridge more in line with what is standard in USA appreciated it
Review 57:Room smelt of smoke, tiny sink, room in a different building 500 yards from check in building.
Review 58:Basic and cheap and clean. Ideal for a one night stop over. Friendly staff.
Review 59:Radiator didn't work on my first night. I reported it to two different staff and was given two different excuses, but it got fixed on my second night. The receptionist on my arrival could be more friendlier, it will go a long way to make guest feel welcome. Buy all in all it was good value for money.
Review 60:Was given a better room with a higher value.
Review 61:We couldn't get the shower to produce hot water but that could have been because we were not used to the type of shower, we didn't say anything as we were only staying one night. No plates, cups etc in the self catering kitchen.
Review 62:Every thing in the bedroom looked new and well cared for. We liked having our own fridge.
Review 63:Apart from the venetian blind getting stuck - which was possibly my fault-no problems.
Review 64:It was a pleasant and spacious room.I appreciated the fridge and it was really good value for the money.
Review 65:When I arrived I was made aware that the booking I had made was for workmen and I was given a free upgrade to a lovely room in the hotel! Lucky for me they had a room though! so it is not a process I would recommend .
Review 66:No one likes to be charged £100 without prior knowledge. You are required to deposit this before you check in. As if that's not bad enough, it takes ages before it's paid back into your account.
Review 67:Good value for money minus the hidden charge.
Review 68:There was no chair in the room, so had to sit/eat on the bed; or eat whilst standing at the sink/stove! Room 5 is located in the attic with sloping ceilings forming part of a sloping roof; up 2 staircases. Car parking is available but not outside the room. I stayed in nr 84, car parking was ten doors away at nr 114 and collected/delivered the key from nr 156. Fortunately, nearby on-street parking was possible over the weekend but is restricted/metered Mon-Fri 9am-6pm.
Review 69:Reception staff gave me a better room that was still unbooked over the weekend. Room 5 has an electric hob, microwave, toaster and fridge to allow for self catering. Therefore, good value for the reduced price over the weekend :-)
Review 70:A very small point, there could have been few utensils in the mini kitchen
Review 71:Perfect for an overnight, very clean, easy access, liked the mini kitchen in the room
Review 72:I specifically requested a smoking room and confirmation notated it as a preference but when I arrived I was told that none of the rooms have a smoking option. Very misleading. Also, the WiFi interfered with my Facebook online service and I was unable to login. Reported to reception but unable to help.
Review 73:Price and location
Review 74:Lack of any table, which would be convenient if there is a kitchen in the room.
Review 75:The 3-beds room was quite large. It had basic kitchen equipment: microwave, tea/coffee/milk set. The room was tidy and every day cleaned. The bathroom had european style valves for water (not English with separate taps for hot and cold water)
Review 76:The shower enclosure!!!! It could of been better!
Review 77:The accommodation was clean and welcoming. It had just the right amount of facilities which made my stay a pleasant one. I was impressed with the security of the building and it left me to concentrate on what I needed to rather than worry whether my car is safe etc. I was also impressed as I could not hear other guest even though there were other people in the building.
Review 78:It's quite noisy. Trains passing, other guests moving around, and traffic. I'm not a light sleeper, but I struggled to sleep.
Review 79:Very clean and warm. Staff are excellent.
Review 80:I have never met hotel staff so rude.... I travelled six hours I couldn't check in at 11:30pm..i had to sleep in my car because the staff refused to check me in...refused to let me speak with the manager and told me I could go to hell because they changed a payment policy which I wasn't informed about.this was not my first time there..very horrible
Review 81:noise from the main road windows could do with been better insulated
Review 82:clean and tidy we stayed 114 room 3 the shower was great and they cleaned the room daily
Review 83:Depending on the night parking may be an issue
Review 84:If you want good value for money in a clean room with extra convenience factors such as ironing board, iron, kettle and tea ad coffee then it would be hard to beat this place.
Review 85:There are some minor faults with some aspects of the rooms such as water leaking from shower cubicle onto the floor a little bit, but they have not caused much inconvenience.
Review 86:I've been staying at the hotel many times and will not change to any other because: * rooms are quite warm * rooms are cosy * staff is very friendly, organized, and professional
Review 87:On my last stay, the shower doors didn't open properly. I had to squeeze through them before they sprung back on me.
Review 88:I don't live local to work and stay here when we have social nights. I probably wouldn't stay anywhere else. You get what you pay for and when all you want is have somewhere to sleep, this place is perfect. Clean, tidy and the reception staff are always friendly.
Review 89:1. The room was that small the toilet door couldn't be opened as it is stopped by the bed. 2. There were that many cobwebs I thought I was on set of an Indiana Jones movie. 3. Splatter marks on the walls in various places. 4. Mold in the toilet window. 5. A mattress so hard it felt like I was trying to sleep on a dining table. 6. The duvet was about as thick as a pack of Post-Its. 7. No WiFi as stated on website.
Review 90:The Hotel was surprisingly good, 5 minutes from town centre by taxi, max 20 minutes in walking distance. The room was absolutely new, although you could hear the noise from outside, if there was any. TV, Tea & coffee making facilities, microwave and fridge, and a really nice bathroom included. All in all, good experience.
Review 91:No kitchen in the house I was living
Review 92:Staffs were very nice and since I was located from the main building, I was allowed to use the microwave. The room was very clean and the bed was comfy. Felt secure and would certainly recommend their service. Thanks for the good time
Review 93:Check in at different location with very vague directions to the building. Really noisy residents. No staff in the building. It did the job but won't go again. Thanks.
Review 94:Had a decent sized room with twin beds, only cost £30. Own toilet. Tea and coffee facilities and tv
Review 95:Very hot, heating on too high, can't turn off! Scared to open window because of other guests Old men drinking strong lager outside door asking me if I have been working hard (well, someone has too!)
Review 96:The price was fantastic Staff friendly Good sized room and facilities
Review 97:Staff were helpful and friendly. Room and the part of the hotel it was in was all newly decorated and spotlessly clean. Everything in the room was new and included a fridge and microwave. Excellent value would definitely stay there again.
Review 98:-not good value for money -no parking outside -smoke alarm looked like it was not working -room too hot (not able to amend) -cobweb in room -alive spider in bed
Review 99:Wi-fi
Review 100:Although the room was well laid out and it was clean and tidy my say was ruined by the thin walls. I was able to hear the people in the next room snoring and people getting up at 5 in the morning for work.
Review 101:The only thing I did not like was the traffic noise depending on which room you book.
Review 102:Value for money Great shower power Relatively clean Availability of kitchen
Review 103:Squashy. People outside the building smoking, it blows into the room. Minimum power plugs for charging equipment.
Review 104:Cleanness was a joy. Beds comfortable and clean, towels fresh. This place was basic and I guess reasonably priced. Access to Oxford possible without paying Oxford prices.
Review 105:Lack of parking was told when we arrived that there was parking behind hotel parked there for 3 days then to get a call to say I need to move my van as we were parked in someone else's car park I am then told the parking for the hotel is up the road about 10 houses away behind another house wasn't happy at all about leaving my van full of tools up behind this house in a unlit area
Review 106:Fresh towels everyday also milk coffee sugar replenished daily bit of a kitchen in room so made meals rather than eating out
Review 107:The exterior of the hotel didn't look safe - being a group of girls we were a bit apprehensive. The bathroom needs to be replaced - the water pressure was non-existent and it was very dirty (we wore flip flops for showers)
Review 108:Big rooms
Review 109:wash hand basin in the en-suite is very tiny but I can't see what they could do about this.
Review 110:I have stayed here before and it is very clean and tidy. there is just about sufficient parking as it's in a busy area and the staff are very friendly and efficient. The prices are reasonable as well.
Review 111:Only slight (and to be fair it is very slight) drawback is the parking. Enough spaces available at the rear car park but no dropped kerb (although it is a low kerb) for access.
Review 112:If you're looking for budget accommodation, no frills but all the essentials, then this is the place for you. Staff at check in are pleasant and courteous, room has all the basics and even found there were kitchen facilities. Well worth the money.
Review 113:Would have liked a face cloth to use in the shower. There was hair on the sheets and when I complained and asked for a change of sheets or change of room, they just brushed the hair onto the floor. No one was there to help carry my bags up the stairs.
Review 114:Wifi, tv, nice washrooms, fridge, microwave, polite staff
Review 115:Don't like having to repark the car or walk 20 houses down to collect the key and return the key. This is the first time that I saw that the bathroom was not as clean as it usually is
Review 116:I have stayed here several times and will continue to use them as my first choice. It is usually clean pleasant and close to the town centre. Also good value
Review 117:Needed to check in at No.156, Park at no.114 and walk to No 84 (Contractors Hotel). Actually a room to let rather than a hotel The area is very seedy
Review 118:Cheap Clean Quiet
Review 119:If you had unreasonable expectations and thought that for the cost you would get luxury, it would be a disappointment
Review 120:If you set your expectations on what you are going to receive for the cost, then you won't be disappointed. Value for money.
Review 121:The 'hotel' comprises several converted houses along the same road. My room was 100 yards from the car park, and 200 yards from check-in. Just be aware if you have heavy bags or limited mobility.
Review 122:It was cheap, easy to find, simple, clean, and provided everything I needed
Review 123:parking was not provided although stated in the ad, staff asked for a deposit on top of the rent, room was in a house far from main building
Review 124:very cheap, clean, comfortable
Review 125:Room was clean and tidy and good value for money. Close to town centre. would stay there again and would definately recommend to friends. Would have been good though to have extra hand towels as only bath towels were available. But in general we had good night sleep.
Review 126:The bathroom was flooding when we took a shower because there was no barrier to water and not even a drain outside the shower! The kitchen was a joke, we were 3 and there was only ONE glass and one teaspoon. Big shame!
Review 127:Our bed condition was not the best you can find.
Review 128:The stuff was really friendly and our accommodation was really enjoyable. Also they gave us plenty information when we needed them.
Review 129:N/A I tried to see if I could get to Milton Keynes or Birmingham from where I was saying but realised it was too far out. I would have to get the train from High Wycombe and take a train to get there. Would take too long to get to if it was just for a daytrip .
Review 130:It was very near the main attractions such as West Wycombe Park. High Wycombe Museum. Hughenden Manor. Was.easy to get to the station too. Very good.for retail shopping.going to the movies at Cineworld and Eden Shopping centre. And was very close by to where my friend live so went round to visit . Would definitely come here again :-)
Review 131:got a different name now called Buckingham so difficult to find firstly. Bed linen didn't fit, bottom sheet didn't tuck in. Bathroom awful shower water spilled all over the floor, water not hot. Promised parking and when we came back after evening out car park full.
Review 132:Mattress comfortable.
Review 133:Sink - excruciatingly small: you need to be a sniper to spit out ifyou're rinsing your mouth/brushing teeth and even to washyour face.England's terribly hard/earthy water >> the electric kettle provided was all covered in lime... I didn't even waste my time to dig it out :/ Wifi has password but noone at the reception (which is in another building about 10 mins walk) bothered to tell it to me upon check-in. Pub across the road - very noisy (I checked-in on Friday night).
Review 134:Cheap. Shower and toilet - en-suite. Good to sleep over a night for acontractor.
Review 135:The rooms are dirty We also booked an apartment that sleeps 4 they just cram beds into rooms then call this an apartments
Review 136:Nothing the place is stinking and dreadfull
Review 137:Staff always very helpful
The Fine Print
Please note that check-in is at the Buckingham Hotel, just a short walk from the Contractors Hotel. Guests will be provided with keys and directions to the room.
