Reviews for Bells Hotel
Review 1:The bed was so uncomfortable I could feel the springs in the mattress had to lie on a pillow for comfort. Next morning I asked reception if they could put a duvet on the mattress, which they did.
Review 2:Staff were friendly and helpful. Restaurant only a few steps from hotel. Which was very convenient.
Review 3:Not much but if I had to pick something, we didn't have any heating in our room and it was freezing. Also the pillows were not the best!
Review 4:Staff were helpful and friendly and the room was nice, big (as we had a cot) and clean.
Review 5:Upon arrival our details were at hand in spite of the fact that I had booked the stay back in May!! The reception Staff were very welcoming and pleasant .
Review 6:Not a bad experience but in heavy traffic we overshot the entry.
Review 7:The great helpfulness of your staff, friendly and sensible. We were making a brief family Christmas visit to our son in Coleford and Bells provided us with exactly the comfortable and convenient accommodation we had hoped. We will certainly return.
Review 8:The toaster at breakfast was hard to use, but it was a fantastic breakfast.
Review 9:Brilliant 24 hour reception and night porter, after a long day, he was welcoming, and efficient. The family room was great for two colleagues sharing as it was in an L shape.
Review 10:I left my contact details regards booking a bowls tour for 40 people. I also requested a reply through the internet but I have not been contacted. I was impressed with the facilities. Bells a potential loss of £8,oooto £10,000 business.
Review 11:The meals were excellent. The staff were always pleasant.
Review 12:The cold water was hot and yellow until you ran it for a while, The water system was very noisy and waked me up several times through the night
Review 13:Rooms were very homely. the drinks basket was well stocked with biscuits and a good selection of drinks.
Review 14:noise. From 6.30am each morning it was like a hurd of elephants throughout the hotel constantly. Walls thin so could hear every conversation and couldn't sleep.
Review 15:late bar and location to the wedding we were down for
Review 16:The location was a little hard to find, and also the room was very hard to find.. The guy behind the counter helped me, and he struggled to find the room also, as it wasn't signed posted properly..
Review 17:Very friendly and helpful staff.. Clean and comfortable..
Review 18:The restaurant was slightly over-run at breakfast time due to a huge number of rugby fans so we had to wait a little to be served but the staff were friendly.
Review 19:Comfortable beds.
Review 20:Lumpy bed, polyester duvet and pillows. Exceedingly creaky floorboards in the corridor outside our room, so that everyone walking past woke us up. Very noisy guests returning at 2pm.
Review 21:Convenient location for the Wye valley. Spacious rooms with clean facilities. Breakfast was good, with friendly staff.
Review 22:The beds were not very comfortable, my husband's side had springs which dug into him.
Review 23:The location was great for attending a local wedding and would be a great place if exploring the Forest. The staff were helpful and were able to get us an early check in.
Review 24:This was a last minute booking, having been let down by another hotel. There was a warm welcome from staff, a clean and spacious room, and a good breakfast. Quiet location close to the beautiful Wye Valley.
Review 25:Noisy doors! Cigarette butt's outside the clubhouse door, no visable sign of any where to put them either!
Review 26:Food was great. Room was very comfortable. Very clean. Staff made us feel welcome.
Review 27:Did not like the narrow corridors as I am prone to claustrophobia. We were booked into room 12 which I would not want again as the floorboards creaked terribly. The crockery was far too heavy, ideal for weight lifters.
Review 28:Very pleasant location and outlook, easy parking.
Review 29:The walls are too thin, I could hear the person above me snoring, when the toilet was flushed in another room I could also hear that, also the doors bang very loudly.
Review 30:It was close to Forest Hills to allow me to attend a function
Review 31:The only problem was late night/early morning banging of doors and loud voices. I realise that golfers may have early tee off times but not everyone needs to be woken at 6.30am on a Sunday morning!!! Perhaps golfers could be more considerate to other guests who are not there for the golf.
Review 32:Although the room was a single it had everything I needed. The bathroom was good too.
Review 33:Dirty tiles in bath area. Beds different sizes and comfort, one small and lumpy one ok. Grumpy stressed loking staff in restaurant and bar area. Not many smiles or welcomes.
Review 34:Nice location and views, nice food.
Review 35:Very noisy corridor with the bed head against the corridor wall. I think it was the water/heating system that made a loud and strange noise every so often which woke me several times.
Review 36:Lovely staff and clean and comfortable room. Nice breakfast. You did a good last minute deal for my son who wanted to come at the last minute
Review 37:The staff couldn't have been more welcoming or helpful, finding a place for us to store our bikes in safety, photocopying part of our OS map and even making a reservation at a local restaurant for us. The fact that the accommodation is in a separate block from the restaurant and events area meant that we were able to get a good night's sleep, although my single bed was not the most comfortable I have ever slept in. The hotel is on the edge of the town and, having its own course, seems to cater mainly for golfers. Although not in the least bit picturesque, it is clean and reasonably comfortable.
Review 38:Breakfast was ok - strange set up splitting people between various rooms to eat. Bed was just about ok (single room, single bed, single space). For what I paid, I'd have expected a bit more! I guess there's a lack of choice in the area though, so they get away with it.
Review 39:Good Location - handy for what we needed
Review 40:The only real dislike was hot water in the cold taps! Also I would have liked some drawers, there were just two small ones although there was a good cupboard with plenty of hangers.
Review 41:I was lucky to get a half-price offer at Bells Hotel, otherwise it would've been way beyond my budget. I loved the setting on the golf course, and having breakfast in the clubhouse. I had a single room which was very masculine in style with a "director's" type desk and chair, so it looked like an office! I had problems with the bathroom because there was hot water in the cold tap! I had to run it for ages to get cold water. The shower and bath were good, though I found the shower hard to operate, I would have preferred a simpler control. The toiletries provided were good quality and I found the shampoo and conditioner excellent. I had a very comfortable bed and great supply of tea, coffee etc. with 2 small packets of biscuits supplied every day. I also enjoyed the breakfast, a good Full English and I particularly liked the croissants, although they were snapped up quickly by all the male golfers!
Review 42:No bad experience, just average standards in all.
Review 43:Location - just a minute away from our objective and close enough to the centre to walk in if we wanted.
Review 44:Room was quite stuffy and the windows could not be opened fully as we were on the ground floor. More air flow would have been better.
Review 45:Room was clean and bed was very comfortable.
Review 46:poor breakfast, not much choice for the buffet breakfast, menu said large selection of cereals, there were three choices, the selection of yogurt was one, had to ask for fruit, they had melon, grapefruit and tinned mandarin oranges. ( who has tinned mandarin oranges for breakfast )
Review 47:room was ok
Review 48:The bed was a bit hard but then no bed is better than your own.
Review 49:We liked that the place looked better in the flesh than on the pictures. The breakfast was excellent and the hotel was quiet when sleeping. Overall we could definitely use the hotel again.
Review 50:Dirty room damp around windows and on curtains, bath panel hanging off, guests very noisy, you can hear everything going on outside your room
Review 51:Leaving was the best thing about this hotel
Review 52:Busy weekend for the golf club ie golf comps and wedding reception.staff were very busy in the bar/restaurants but eh that's good business
Review 53:Location was perfect for our time in the Forrest of dean.
Review 54:Our room was close to the dining complex and there was a party going on so it was quite noisy.
Review 55:The breakfast was served up very efficiently and quickly and with a smile and a friendly word. The bed was very comfortable. The room was clean. The receptionist was very helpful.
Review 56:Staff generally very efficient but can lack a friendly smile although catering for a wedding party was probably quite stressful!. I'm fussy when it comes to pillows and the ones in the room were a little flat and tired!.
Review 57:Comfortable good sized room. Facilities good although TV very small!. Room service very efficient. Overall, well impressed.
Review 58:No negatives provided.
Review 59:Comment direct from Sub-contractors "The lads like the digs, it's clean, nice and comfortable, with a good breakfast to set them up for the day"
Review 60:Everything was perfect from the moment of arrival. Greeted warmly and efficiently. The restaurant was good and well served by most pleasant staff with Judy having a smile for everyone.
Review 61:Pipes constantly hissing loudly when toilets were flushed in other rooms felt like we were sleeping in a public toilet - very perculiar - also emergency light was fitted in centre of room and glowed brightly all night, not conducive to a good nights sleep.
Review 62:The rooms were clean and functional in corporate style. Beds were reasonably comfortable,
Review 63:The twin rooms were quite small and were extremely hot, leaving the windows open was not an option as the rooms were on the ground level, the droning noise from the taps we all found to be extremely annoying and the strong smell of disinfectant in the common areas was overwhelming, especially at breakfast, but didn't detract from the nice breakfast.
Review 64:The beds were very comfortable, breakfast was lovely and the bar food and service were also good. Receptionist was very professional and very helpful. Nice views from the breakfast rooms too, nice ambience.
Review 65:Minor cleanliness issues in the room - dust along the top of the bed headboard and a lot of hairs on the floor behind the bathroom door.
Review 66:Early breakfast times, quality of breakfast, nice location and the free wi-fi
Review 67:Not a bad experience but as a hotel that had family rooms there wasn't a children's menu or half portions for children that was easily accessible. We had to keep asking!
Review 68:The loudest squeaky floorboards I've ever heard, both in the room and the corridor.
Review 69:Location, views, cleanliness, food and tea, coffee and biscuits, rooms were big and had good ventilation. The bathroom was clean and roomy.
Review 70:Room nine - Had to wait ten minutes at reception whilst someone was deciding what to order for their evening meal No acknowledgement from receptionist that I was even there. Booked double room got one with single beds. 2 out of five lights in room failed to work Room walls so thin I felt at times like joining in with the neighbours conversations. Breakfast served in golf club opposite which is ok had the sausages not been raw and the english breakfast deep fired in tired oil !. Complaint to receptionist solicited a sorry !. Needless will not be stopping here again.
Review 71:Shower worked and plenty of hot water. room itself clean and adequate tea, coffee facilities.
Review 72:Tiny TV that didn't hold any signal, dreadful WIFI, stopping me from working, and the food was horrendous, except for the scrambled eggs on toast.
Review 73:Bed was really comfortable, staff were nice, facilities ok
Review 74:Trouble with WiFi during our stay..
Review 75:Good Hotel, nice surroundings, clean tidy and friendly. Booked with a group of friends on a motorcycle tour. Ample parking and made us feel very welcome. Rooms were good and clean. Very nice stay - recommended
Review 76:The panel was hanging off the front of the bath and there was nowhere in the bathroom to put any toiletries out.
Review 77:The room was nice and clean. Had a very pleasant stay.
Review 78:There was a lot of maintenance required left note to this on departure could have done with no waterproof cover on bed cold on back thanks
Review 79:Good view good breakfast
Review 80:Food in the restaurant was equivalent to the average carvery but priced about double.
Review 81:The room was comfortable, clean and well-furnished. Facilities were good. Wifi did the job. The staff were all friendly and helpful.
Review 82:Room long walk from entrance and I'm disabled. Towel rain leaking over bathroom floor, bedroom radiator not working and bed soggy soft ! Golf Couse layout confusing . Could not get Wf in room .
Review 83:Good food and prompt service .
Review 84:Breakfasts were expensive with a limited range and average quality.
Review 85:Bar Snacks were excellent quality and value for money. Most of the staff were friendly and helpful.
Review 86:Rather noisy but this isn't the hotel's fault- guests coming to bed after midnight talking rather loudly despite the notices asking them to take other guests into consideration. Rooms ok but a bit bland decoratively speaking. Cost wise a little on the expensive side for what we had.
Review 87:Accommodated 5 adults and one toddler very well. Only stayed one night so didn't Need the wifi so no comment above
Review 88:MORNING COFFEE WAS POOR
Review 89:THE FRIENDLY AND RELAXED ATMOSPHERE
Review 90:Limited evening menu and rather drab dining and entertainment facilities. Bed rather lumpy.
Review 91:Comfortable room overall.
Review 92:Littlemore separation from club members. There was an event on the Friday night which ended uo a little laddish and rowdy.
Review 93:Staff and service.

Review 119:Restaurant was a little unorganized.
Review 120:Nice location, friendly staff, comfortable room.
Review 121:Bed mattresses require to be replaced.

Review 123:all good
Review 124:close to forest of dean, the local town is nearby good clean hotel with a nice breakfast, what more could you ask for
Review 125:Shower temperature varied from freezing to boiling hot all on its own as other rooms used their showers.
Review 126:Friendly staff, cheap
Review 127:Quiet and comfortable for an overnight stop. Obliging staff.
Review 128:Clean, friendly place to stay. Good for a stopover or if you want to play golf at its integrated golf complex.
