Reviews for Brownsover Hall
Review 1:A lovely old and interesting property but it could do with a bit of a make over the decor looked a bit tired. I stayed with my daughter and was a little concerned when the door to the room would not lock. I called reception who sent a man to look at it, of course he managed to lock it but it was very stiff......I did succeed in the end but not easily. Bathroom was freezing even though heating was on, windows were responsible and need replacing. There was also a problem with the sink being blocked which led to an unpleasant smell. I did mention these issues on checkout and was thanked for letting them know, not convinced anything would be done about it though. Food in the bar was ok but overpriced. Breakfast was basic for the price and the full English was only mediocre.
Review 2:Beautiful old property in a lovely setting.
Review 3:As above
Review 4:Main house looking tired, Left to find our courtyard room by ourselvesin the dark late at night ???? "Turn left its round there" Atbreakfast my father requested a slice of bread to go with his breakfast,it was carried through the dining room in the waiters hand !!!! Not veryprofessional or hygienic for a supposedly "grand" hotel.
Review 5:Despite heating it was a little cold especially in the bathroom. We had put on the form that my husband was disabled but were given no accessibility information.
Review 6:I liked the old building especially the dining room. The bed was very comfortable. The staff were welcoming and informative about the building. The grounds were very scenic and would look lovely in the summer.
Review 7:The only thing I didn't like would be that the bathroom is not always as cosy as the rooms. I had 2 different room there both lovely though.
Review 8:I have booked the Brownsover only for one night to start with and ended up extending my stay for two extra night rather than going to a hotel downtown. The place is absolutely charming, nicely decorated, a lot of character, lovely staff, good food. It's only 5min away from the town, £6 by taxi. I strongly recommend it.
Review 9:Windows in room would not lock Windows old and draughty Tiles on Bathroom floor look as if they have been cracked for a long time Table top was dirty
Review 10:Location
Review 11:the décor was just a little bit tired but acceptable due the building being old. the grounds to the hall were also wonderful.
Review 12:The venue was fantastic just loved the building, and the service from the staff was good
Review 13:I thought the bar area looked a little bland in comparison to the rest of the interior. The food was good but the only nut that should ever be included in a soup is butternut ;) Walnuts did not work!!
Review 14:The location and the house are breath-taking. The house was gothic but cosy.l and the room was spacious and comfortable. Staff were very friendly and professional. I will definitely stay here again!!
Review 15:No bad experience at all. I was next to a corridor door which other guests swept through quite noisily disturbing my sleep but otherwise okay. The room was a little expensive but I guess people were paying for the experience. The food had a good range but again a little expensive.
Review 16:Atmospheric place and there was a wedding taking place but the staff made special effort to ensure I was looked after and not lost in the mi-lay of wedding guests.
Review 17:This hotel is used for various functions and on the evening of my visitit was being used for a murder mystery evening. I stayed quietly out ofthe way. I was therefore disappointed to be "ticked off" by aMrs Mopp character for failing to stand up when the "Colonel"entered the bar even though she was fully aware that l was not withthat group.
Review 18:The property clearly has both history and character though l did feelthese characteristics were not always used to their best advantage.
Review 19:We were in rooms 1 and 2 and they were lovely. The quiet little area outside our two rooms was useful. We also visited a friend in The Stables and were amazed at the space. The complimentary prosecco and chocolates were very nice. We had a family celebration and the service and the food for 36 people were exceptional.
Review 20:Although not on this trip - after booking a room, it is worth asking if it is close to an event/party. I have had a few experiences whereby the room was located next to an event which, disrupted my night.
Review 21:The room was well located and the staff are always incredibly helpful.
Review 22:We enjoy staying in traditional properties which, although showing signs of age, retain a hint of old world style and charm. We had an enjoyable 3 day stay while attending a family wedding in the area. The staff were friendly and effective and the room (in the stables) was clean. The extensive grounds were well maintained. All in all ,a very pleasant stay giving good value. We will stay here again if we return to the area. Thank you
Review 23:Service with a smile would of been nice when we checked in !! We were away early in the morning so we were told we could have breakfast in our room at an extra £3 tray charge each, then to be told we couldn't as the chef didn't start till just after 7am ! When we checked out we asked if we were getting charged for breakfast, was told they were just putting some breakfast out if we wanted to take some with us, when we went to look there was nothing and still got charged and was told we would have to take it up with the manager! . Such a shame as it was a lovely hotel !!!
Review 24:Evening meal was excellent
Review 25:Hotel was lovely room very nice paid extra for wine and chocolates in room dissapointed with chocolates breakfast not that impressed 1slice of bacon 3 mushrooms 1sausage not very good value for price room wasnt ready on arrival
Review 26:The lady on reception was very rude huffing and puffing. Not at all helpful, when checking out I was asked do I have an express check out, when I asked what this was she made a big thing of telling me and it turns out just if I had already paid for the room! Just ask if I had to pay still don't be rude and after talking to others they all felt the same! Considering she is he first person you meet didn't look good for the place. £240 for 2 nights isn't a problem when friendly staff! If I spoke to customer in that tone I'd have no job
Review 27:Size of the room was good, looked smart and cleans
Review 28:The hotel is faded and needs an injection of vitality - the room was okay but the sash window fell like a guillontine when opened because it had no weights and the bathroom needed some basic repairs.
Review 29:This is a convenient location for travelling on elsewhere but not for a longer stay.
Review 30:1) Block/Bay in Room No (beyond ) 28 are located in back yard , named STABLE, is a real Stable definitely not suitable for any Human being. 2) In STABLE , there is NO WIFI Connection at all. One will feel totally Isolated . 3) Windows are located at very elevated height , and facing second level room , affecting PRIVACY. 4) There is No Security Camera at the Stable Bay entrance and a real security threat and a great concern.
Review 31:Location close to Tech park.
Review 32:Nothing.
Review 33:I really couldn't believe the value for money that this hotel offers. It worked out £3 cheaper than Premier Inn and Travelodge. You get complete and utter luxury. The staff are utterly professional. The hotel and grounds are second to none. This is definitely a place my wife and I will return to. My only regret was that I didn't book an extra day.
Review 34:The standard of finish on the inside. Very dated in the bar area/ breakfast room and bathroom in room.
Review 35:Loved the building....from the outside. Beautifully kept.
Review 36:Please update your room facility, especially the bathroom. We do expect a hot water to come out of the shower with this price range, and not wash in a freezing cold water.
Review 37:Did like a historical building with atmosphere of a country manor. Breakfast was pleasant and tasty.
Review 38:Rate included breakfast which we were looking forward to. Unfortunately not served until 8 am which considering we were there for the grand prix was too late because we wanted an early start. We asked if we could have a continental breakfast seeing as we would have to miss cooked breakfast. We had a tray to the room which was cereal and toast, not the breakfast i'd been looking forward to but my fault for not checking the timings. As we left I was told there was a tray charge to pay of £6 which I objected to. When I complained I was told that in the small print on the menu it did advise of this charge. Annoyed that we had not just missed breakfast but I had to pay a further £6 for having the tray brought to our room when I'd already paid. I liked the hotel but felt this was greedy and on that basis would not go back.
Review 39:Location set in lawned gardens was lovely. The hotel had lots of character.
Review 40:Noisey room could not sleep people banging n crashing around above our room. Looked like staff accommodation but we're told it wasn't glad I wasn't in that room then as the curtains were minging
Review 41:Nothing
Review 42:Business travelers and meetings are a large part of this hotel's revenue stream. The juxtaposition with people traveling for leisure needs occasional flexibility, but this is not a big issue and the hotel staff work well to manage the situation.
Review 43:The hotel is located close to a busy area, but it is both quiet and tranquil. The staff are friendly and helpful and the facilities are as advertised. The restaurant menu is excellent for both breakfast and dinner.
Review 44:Breakfast was delayed on Saturday, although this incovenience was reflected in the final bill.
Review 45:We were given an unsatisfactory room because of the stairs. It was changed to an excellent ground floor room when we complained.
Review 46:It was a warm night but we were unable to leave the windows open as they were so large and we were on the ground floor. It felt unsafe to do that. Some kind of safety catch to enable the windows to stay open safely or aircon would be good.
Review 47:The room was nice. The disabled bath enabled me to enjoy my first bath in a long time. I really enjoyed it.
Review 48:All the staff was so friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble and they made our stay a lovely experience. We had a modern spacious room in the converted stables and fresh towels every day. Sitting on the terrace with a pot of coffee or glass of wine watching the activities of the abundant rabbits, squirrels and birds was great fun. Breakfast was a wonderful array of fresh & dried fruit, juices and pastries but didn't have the cooked although it looked very good. Evening menu is a good range to suit most tastes. Some dishes were fantastic and some were ok but overall a great experience and def booking again.
Review 49:The newspaper hanger in the Frank Whittle Bar as it was way to complex for me and i dropped the paper all over the floor !! No reflection on the hotel just my clumsy paws !
Review 50:What a stunning building and the staff were excellent
Review 51:Hotel took full amount for food, not £25 per head per night for meal plan, as advertised! Noisy room - no. 29 - in middle of car park. Noisy room - cars back and forth; and woken at 3.30am by hotel staff member "discreetly" putting check-out bill under door! Breakfast tepid - certainly not worth £12.50. Evening meal nothing special - certainly wouldn't have stayed there if meal plan wasn't going to be adhered to! Lack of staff to deal with complaints on check-out. Took advantage of holding card details and took what amount of money they wanted, without contacting to agree amount - as promised!
Review 52:Looked nice - that's about it!
Review 53:A bit dusty, but maybe that's olde worlde charm...
Review 54:Great value, pleasant grounds, friendly staff, good food. Even a spooky stone staircase accessible from some rooms...
Review 55:No one on reception. I had to wait between 10 and 15 minutes to check in.
Review 56:Getting up in the morning the birds singing rabbits hopping about on the lawns.. What a start to the day
Review 57:The bedroom was lovely we were in the converted stables. We had an evening meal which unfortunately was not very good it was luke warm and overpriced.
Review 58:Water took a while to heat but expect this in an older building. The only other down point was the lights through the window at night from the lights on the hotel and the light under the door into the room. Not a deal breaker just meant the room wasn't completely dark. Drinks were very expensive.
Review 59:I stayed in the main hotel and the room was to die for. The bathroom was bigger than some rooms I've stayed in at other hotels. The bedroom itself was Devine. Sash windows. Beautiful features.
Review 60:Breakfast was the only element that let the hotel down. It wasn't included and wasn't worth the 12.95pp we paid.
Review 61:The hotel itself is beautiful, outside and inside. We enjoyed a gorgeous afternoon tea in the empty bar. Staff were attentive. Lovely walk in the Woodlands and along canal. Room is cosy and comfortable.
Review 62:We had a beautiful room in the main house over looking the gardens. The bathroom was also very large and furnished with a shower bath. Great bathroom for a soak and a glass of wine. Staff were very attentive and friendly. Would definitely stay again.
Review 63:The price of the wine in the bar :(
Review 64:The staff were lovely and accommodating. The room was comfortable and clean. The hotel is a gorgeous building. Definitely my first choice when visiting Rugby.
Review 65:The location and hotel were beautiful, very peaceful and quiet. We were attending a wedding at brownsover and decided to treat ourselves to a superior room for the weekend. The room was lovely and very spacious however, it was lacking a superior finish. The bed and bedroom area were cosy and roomy. The bathroom was very disappointing, very bland and un cared for, cracked in the sink and the shower was rubbish. My partner burnt her leg on the shower because it was scalding hot and could not be altered, house keeper and duty manager came and sorted it although we were told " they would see what they could do by way of apology" nothing was forthcoming. The furniture and carpet are in desperate need of updating as there were stains and marks all over. Overall we enjoyed our stay but would go for a standard room next time, apart from space it had nothing special.
Review 66:Food was bland, could do with a gym, bar area was a tad small for the size of hotel. there was supposed be a ghost in the building he must have worked behind the bar because I couldnt find him - could be expensive compared to other local hotels
Review 67:Location, Car Parking, Free Wifi
Review 68:Restaurant staff scruffy, extra charges for virtually everything ( even a couple of wine glasses in room) ridiculous! Bedroom very small and pokey. Toilet constantly dripping at night, trees bashing room in night, pillows very flat... Not much sleep! Building very nice inside very tired inside, decor tired, needs sprucing up desperately. Breakfast edible (wanted to charge extra for lots of things, other places we've stayed was included) would never recommend to anyone ever. I've never given a bad require for anywhere before but felt I needed to be honest, wish we'd stayed in a premier inn , there's 1 round the corner!
Review 69:Bathroom was ok!
Review 70:Facility is lacking administrative organization and charges need to be reviewed for accuracy. Hotel attempted to charge more for accommodation than was agreed at booking. Wi-fi is not available throughout as advertised and confirmed verbally prior to us booking.
Review 71:A lovely location and character of facilities. Staff are friendly and helpful.
Review 72:Breakfast was very poor. Executive room in the Stables didn't have mini bar or cable TV. Bathroom small with stand in bath shower.
Review 73:Secluded location and pretty grounds.
Review 74:The decor is worn and needs updating, The staff cannot cope when theres a wedding on, No consideration for non wedding guests. Rooms need TLC, our windows were propped open with used shampoo bottles.
Review 75:The building and grounds are beautiful Good location for visiting Rugby
Review 76:Be prepared for noise from adjoining rooms as this is an old building and floorboards creak!
Review 77:This hotel was our second choice but we would certainly make it our first choice next time. The hotel itself is a wonderful building, steeped in history and the setting is so beautiful. I can understand why there was a wedding party there and we were lucky enough to see their fantastic firework display! Our room was in the Coach House and very comfortable for our overnight stay whilst visiting family nearby.
Review 78:No extractor fan in the bathroom and the window did not open but it was still a lovely space.
Review 79:Loved the room we had at the front of the hotel, would request the same room again. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was a great size and everywhere was very clean. The grounds were also immaculate and extensive surrounding the hotel.
Review 80:Stable location poor.If located on the ground rooms you cant have the windows open.Upstairs rooms access is a very narrow staircase. shutters on windows means you cant leave open if you dont want the morning sun to wake you up. no a/c the main building is tired and needs refreshing
Review 81:The Breakfast was ok
Review 82:Although our room was excellent in the stable block, there was too much noise from the room above, perhaps more insulation would be advisable for future guests benefit
Review 83:The informality of the occasion. The food was excellent, nothing seemed to be too much trouble for the staff, a big thankyou to them
Review 84:Bath not big enough for me an the wife to be in together :-)
Review 85:We stayed in room 18 right by the old tower, the room was spotless, the bed very comfy. Breakfast was excellent, all in all a great stay
Review 86:Brownsover hotel failed to process our reservation despite Booking.com confirming. When we arrived all rooms were booked and hotel staff could only offer to organise a transfer to another hotel, their chosen alternative recommended as 'nice'. Our stay began having o walk through a police-assisted,drunken, bloody fight in reception followed by a bed which was wet having been urinated on previously, filthy dirty bathroom uncleaned and very very sparce furnished room. Breakfast was awful with only egg, sausage and bacon on offer. Horel was filthy dirty. Would not trust Brownsover again to administer a booking.
Review 87:Location excellent..
Review 88:Was given wifi codes but did not get wifi in the room. Not really a problem as we had not gone away to go on the internet!
Review 89:Lovely hotel. Ate in the restaurant and the food was very good.
Review 90:A little tricky to find late in the evening from the centre of Rugby.
Review 91:Comfortable and spacious room and bathroom. Good tea and coffee available.
Review 92:Everything was good
Review 93:Comfortable Extremely close to where my family live Late checkout
Review 94:No cocktails, dusty behind the sofa. A bit awkward for those with limited mobility
Review 95:A good ambiance, pleasant staff, comfortable
Review 96:There was mould in the corners of the room which gave the room a musty smell. Needs taking care of- room 30
Review 97:Really lovely and helpful staff.
Review 98:We enjoyed the amazing gothic architecture and the walk to the nature reserve through the gardens.
Review 99:Very attentive staff excellent bar meal
Review 100:Dining room felt a little cool
Review 101:Individual styled bedrooms. There was a wedding party but had no disturbance at all.
Review 102:For an executive suite we thought the room was v small & basic. No mini bar, broken iron And basic cheap tea and coffee options
Review 103:Very poor wifi.
Review 104:Beautiful building, idilic surroundings
Review 105:Lovely location and very good service. Will definitely go back again. The restaurant was lovely too
Review 106:Staff not very welcoming on arrival.
Review 107:We stayed in the stables was really quaint.
Review 108:Wi-Fi was shocking!!!
Review 109:stay here a lot as comfy rooms, great beds, ideal location and food always very good
Review 110:but internet if you need , forget that.
Review 111:Good location, good historic building.
Review 112:A little tired upstairs en route to bedroom
Review 113:Great hotel and friendly staff
Review 114:We were in a stable room and dust was heavy on stable dividers
Review 115:The building is very interesting
Review 116:There was a lack of staff at breakfast and therefore poor service.
Review 117:Interesting building lovely grounds friendly staff great food
Review 118:No A/c
Review 119:Useful to have a late check-in. Nice big room and the room deal including prosecco and chocolates made the stay extra special.
Review 120:Beautiful setting, close to shops and facilities. Comfortable beds, spacious room.
Review 121:We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Brownsover Hall. The staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful and made the time there even more enjoyable.
Review 122:Would have liked real ale on draught in the bar
Review 123:Décor was superb, breakfast amazing
