Reviews for Clifton Lodge Hotel
Review 1:Very limited choice of evening meals unless you like everything fried! Drinking at bar was far too expensive. Had to visit local pub for a better choice of meal and cheaper drinks.
Review 2:Comfortable rooms. Friendly staff.
Review 3:2 days in a row we had to go to reception for towels on the day we arrived we also had to pick up an additional cup and saucer and glasses for the room. The room was extremely warm and as we were on the ground floor there was no relief as we couldn't open the curtains or the windows, we also had to pull the bed out to plug in the bedside lamp. I wouldn't stay here again.
Review 4:Nothing
Review 5:The evening meal was expensive for not much, this consisted of Salmon and chips for £12 comprising of a small piece of previously frozen salmon (a fist size) and some chips... very poor value for the price.
Review 6:Staff were friendly.
Review 7:Located in an urban residential area, at the time of my stay lots of road repairs and late night traffic controls nearby, expensive food and breakfast relative to other places.
Review 8:Helpful staff, parking at back, has good WiFi access, reasonable walk to pubs and amenities in Wycombe.
Review 9:We arrived teatime & was hoping to have a meal.but they dont do them on weekends.so had to go back out & search round for somewere
Review 10:The rooms were nice and clean.breakfast was nice
Review 11:They didn't know we were coming despite us booking through Booking.com in April (5 months before) and so we ended up being put in a single room as it was all they had left. We had a very small double bed in a cramped room but only one towel and only one cup with tea and coffee for one. No hairdryer in the room so I had to ask (though was given one promptly). Bed was extremely uncomfortable! The mattress was far too soft and neither of us slept properly at all. Very annoyed that we were charged full price when our room had clearly been given to someone else and we were left with an extremely poor alternative!
Review 12:Location, extremely close to city centre! Staff were friendly.
Review 13:We had a lot of trouble with the key sticking in the door and eventuallythe receptionist gave us another key which was better but not brilliant. The room itself although it looks recently refurbished, it could do witha clean lick of paint. The toilet was temperamental - flushed ok atfirst, but wouldn't flush ten minutes later. The cooked breakfastwas not the best - cheap ingredients - felt like we were in a café andat £7 each - kinda wished we hadn't bothered. Not a lot on offer -cereals, juice, croissant, tinned apricots.
Review 14:The lady on reception was faultless, very friendly and helpful. Westayed in the 'house' next door to the main block (room 1a). Theroom was a fair size and looked newly refurbished, the shower was a goodsize. The wi-fi signal was good. Plenty of parking space.
Review 15:Poor public transport links to the centre of High Wycombe. I would advise travellers to bring a car.
Review 16:The hotel offers reasonable value for money. It does not pretend to be a luxury hotel and the prices confirm that. The staff were very friendly and helpful
Review 17:The walls are too thin, you can hear everything, I got woken up regularly throughout the night by people banging doors next to my hear. The staff checking me in was rude and blunt. The bed was hard, the pillows looked 100 years old.
Review 18:Free wifi
Review 19:No hair dryer in the room. On Saturday we were at the breakfast room for 8am. Nothing there, and no indication of when breakfast would be served, so we went out for breakfast.
Review 20:Location was almost perfect.
Review 21:Lack of fresh fruit at breakfast. Interminably long narrow corridor with large number of fire doors which were very tricky to negotiate with several bags and nobody to help carry them! Could not connect to internet on my laptop for the entire three days that I was there... Hotel seems to be favourite with groups of football playing school kids who all got up and left at 5am making a lot of noise, which was very disturbing.
Review 22:Friendly helpful staff. Well appointed bathroom.
Review 23:Noisy plastic undersheet on the bed, we were non bed-wetting adults! Kettle on floor, crazy noises thru night from doors slamming and some sort of electric pump or similar coming on regularly thru the night. Room not ready when we arrived well after 2pm.
Review 24:Safe off street parking.
Review 25:The bed was a bit lumpy (being picky) The room was a bit cramped for two (again being picky) The Wi-Fi didn't work in our room.
Review 26:The staff made us feel that nothing was too much trouble without being patronising. The breakfast was excellent. You could actually shut the doors without slamming them! The Wi-Fi in the lounge was good (quick).
Review 27:Single bed two narrow had to push it up against a wall. Did not notice that wifi was not available in all bedrooms.
Review 28:clean an tidy, great shower an great staff
Review 29:The hotel was a little shabby, could do with a re-paint. No food was available in the evenings during a weekend stay.
Review 30:The room was small but comfortable.
Review 31:On quite busy main road but didn't disturb us that much at night. Railway at back of hotel but couldn't hear trains from our front room.
Review 32:Pleasant staff, very clean comfortable room.On-site parking. 24 hour access.
Review 33:There was a horrendous skid mark in the toilet which was not very pleasant at all! It was a really small double bed but then it was cheap so you get what you pay for.
Review 34:A group of 6 of us had a wedding in Marlow and this was around a 25 min taxi drive and much cheaper than staying nearby. It had everything we needed. We were 3 couples and I think I lucked out on the room as it was definitely the smallest however it had everything we needed. The breakfast was only a fiver and definitely helped soak up some of the alcohol from the wedding.
Review 35:Was very happy with my stay at this hotel. The rooms had been recently refurbished and everything was nice. The bed was so comfortable that I fell asleep very fast which is not the norm for me! The staff were very friendly and helpful.
Review 36:The best thing about Clifton Lodge is the friendliness and welcoming attitude of the staff. The food is great and you get a fairly good choice on the menu. The staff are more than happy to make any alterations to the food that you want. All in all its a great place to stay with great value for money!
Review 37:Ground floor booked as I am slightly disabled a very kind lady gave us her room this room was very small not suitable for me I had ask eked for an accessible room
Review 38:Arrived at restaurant at 7.30 and checked the menu and made our choices. Were told that the only choice was burgers or salmon and chips, then was told there was fresh lasagne. My husband had salmon which was very dry and I had lasagne which was cold, tasted like it had been defrosted and not heated very well - certainly not fresh.
Review 39:Nice room and friendly staff.
Review 40:Nothing really. it's 1.4 miles from the town centre but apart from that no problems.
Review 41:Set staff who changed my room because I couldn't get wifi in the one allocated. The receptionist called u half an later to check that all was well. Very pleasant and helpful staff.
Review 42:Otherwise lacking simple basics. Mattress incredibly old. Overall not very fresh smelling throughout (fried food smell overwhelming) and generally outdated. I did have a newly fitted bathroom but the bath was half the size of a normal bath and the shower was just a cord extension from the tap.
Review 43:Many, many thanks to the wonderful reception/bar staff who provided me with her own personal hairdyer.
Review 44:Everyting about the Clifton. Will us again
Review 45:After a very long and hot trip up from Cornwall this was a haven. Looked at a couple of local pubs for evening meal and NO WAY - back to the Clifton. A superb evening meal at a very reasonable price.
Review 46:The walls are very thin and you can hear everyone doing everything. Also there wasn't much available from the menu as they are changing suppliers.
Review 47:The bed was very comfy. Best nights sleep away from home in a long time. Staff were friendly and welcoming and tried to accommodate our requests. Great parking and free, great signal WiFi.
Review 48:People going in and out of the communal bathroom, and an inexplicable mechanical noise made it impossible to sleep. Breakfast was appalling.
Review 49:The location was good and the evening meal was ok
Review 50:I was very happy with my room but the whole building was in need of paint/renovation.
Review 51:I liked that the wifi was good, the bathroom was very clean and breakfast was nice. Staff was very helpful when I came in late in the evening and couldn't get the outdoor code to work.
Review 52:Rooms are accessed along long narrow corridors that are not suitable for large bags
Review 53:Excellent modern facilities; quiet and comfortable. Range of food available
Review 54:Plenty of free parking and the evening meal was excellent. Although the room was small it was very clean and comfortable with an en suite bathroom which was spotless. Will definitely book again when visiting family in the area.
Review 55:Bed not too comfortable and being in another building meant nesding about with a code on the door lock.
Review 56:Clean and comfortable with a bar and restaurant , good choice of food .decent breakfast.
Review 57:We liked having spaces to chillout besides the room. Good outdoor seating and a lounge with comfy sofas. The bed was comfy and the roomhad a good shower. The manager on duty was hard case and made us laugh.
Review 58:Breakfast wasn't included, which was ok on Sunday as we new we had to pay for this. Unfortunately, when we came down on Monday there was no breakfast. We were advised that they mainly catered for work people so didn't do breakfast on Monday. It should be made clearer as the literature said breakfast Mon to Fri was 7.00 to 8.30.
Review 59:Staff were very friendly and helpful.
Review 60:Room numbering was slightly confusing and navigating through the building was not easy as the corridors were too tight. There was repair work going on at the time therefore didn't help much for the aesthetics.
Review 61:The room served its purpose and was reasonably comfortable. All the basic expected ammenities were available. One member of staff on duty who was reasonably hospitable.
Review 62:Great room, clean & tidy with friendly staff. Will use again.
Review 63:The narrow stairs and the room small but very manageable for one night
Review 64:Reasonable price and easy ride to airport!
Review 65:Breakfast and bathroom quiet parking
Review 66:We stayed two nights and our room wasn't serviced during that time.
Review 67:friendly staff
Review 68:Convenient for the places I needed to visit. Spotlessly clean. Posh bathroom!
Review 69:A very nicely upgraded hotel with all the necessary facilities. Bed very comfy. Staff friendly. Nice breakfast. On site car free car park.Nothing
Review 70:Bed uncomfortable/could feel springs! Extractor fan funnel from kitchen downstairs outside our window noisy. No fan in room to circulate air.
Review 71:The bar wasn't open!! The toast for breakfast had only been shown the toaster & parts of the full English were cold.
Review 72:As above
Review 73:Friendly staff, fairly easy to find, good value for money and clean and comfortable
Review 74:No Restaurant on Sat Night No Bar on the weekend Bed too small for 2 people
Review 75:room clean
Review 76:Tea/Coffee/Milk used in bedrooms not replaced.
Review 77:Staff were excellent
Review 78:No Wi-Fi in bedroom( not working) but OK in bar area.

Review 94:Grubby carpets in hallways, cooked breakfast cold, except for the fried egg, , cold coffee on stand
Review 95:comfortable bed, , cleanroom, large shower,
Review 96:Staff
Review 97:It's far from the city center
Review 98:Clean, not outdated
Review 99:Ease of booking, comfort.
Review 100:Bathroom and toilet very clean but small. General cleanliness throughout. Bed very comfortable
Review 101:Bit to far out of town
Review 102:Comfortable
Review 103:Room 22 was next to extractor fan. It was a bit noisy. Room were quite stuffy. Needs a fan in hot weather.
Review 104:Friendly staff. Good location. Great value.
Review 105:I didn't like the fact that we were not told the time of breakfast, having been asked would we like breakfast in the morning and asked would we like to pay that evening after we had finished dinner, which we did £7.50 each. In the morning we looked around for something in the room which would have informed us of breakfast times but there was nothing, we went to the restaurant at 8.40am ish to be told it had finished being served. We said there was nothing in the room to say what time it was, we were told there should be a laminate in the room, we said we didn't see one, we looked everywhere when we went back to the room, but we didn't find one. We thought breakfast would be served till at least 9am. So we said we would have a refund, they said they couldn't, they could give us a limited meal at 10am, we said we couldn't wait that long we needed to get into town. The young lady also showed us a sign on the wall behind the reception desk which had bar times at the top and underneath where the paper had curled up and we could only see when she pulled the paper down were the breakfast times. This was never shown to us on checkin or when i paid for the breakfasts at reception the previous evening. If our eye sight was not good probably we wouldn't see it in any case. They also said they cater for the majority and they have a lot of workmen using the hotel. We went back to our room and my husband reminded me he had given himself his insulin injection so he really needed to eat, luckily i had bought some cereal bars the day before which he had. When we checked out there was still no refund forthcoming. So we left with nothing. We feel that they were quick to ask for the money but not so quick to say breakfasts are served at.... Which would be good customer service, especially as they finish serving quite early compared to most places we have stayed.
Review 106:The room had every thing we needed, the bathroom was good with a lovely spa bath, unfortunately when i had finished using it I couldn't get the handle which raised the plug to work so i ended up leaving the water in the bath. The evening meal was enjoyable but there were only chips available they had run out of potatoes so i wasn't able to have a jacket potato.
Review 107:Minor gripe - Tv, lamp etc all unplugged when I arrived. Had to move heavy bed to plug lamp in.
Review 108:Very spacious room. Clean and comfortable. Nice welcome.
Review 109:Corridors seemed narrow. Shower not very powerful.
Review 110:Room was clean and comfortable. En suite of a good standard. Staff were very helpful. Good parking.
Review 111:The shower in my girlfriend room would not get warm and she came to my room to have a shower and my shower was to hot and it could not be altered and I think it is wrong that the manager should come to the desk in his pyjamas when we rung the bell for service shall never go back there or recommend any of my friends to go either totally upset my girlfriend and that in turn upset me
Review 112:There is nothing negative that I can say about the hotel or the staff fantastic
Review 113:The staff there were fantastic had a lovely time in the hotel and we enjoyed it very much
Review 114:I had stayed at the hotel a couple of weeks ago and it was a pleasant and quiet stay but on this occasion I found it to be noisy and the mattress was a bit too hard for me so I did not get a good night's sleep.
Review 115:Plenty of parking space also that they were prepared to exchange my courtesy Saturday breakfast for an Friday evening meal because I was leaving early Saturday morning.
Review 116:The Staff were very helpful and friendly. The room was a good size with a very comfortable bed. The TV signal quality was good with good range of channels. The food was excellent. Large car park. Free wifi throughout.
Review 117:Possibly because we were not expected the radiator in the room would not work. On request a portable heater was found which worked well.
Review 118:We arrived at the weekend and were the only guests. Having made an error in the date, we were however looked after very well. The room was on the small side but the bed was very comfortable
Review 119:I had to wait a while at Reception before I was given a room. The restaurant was not open on a Friday night. The taps were on the sink didn't turn off without a lot of effort and I was unable to tun a bath, as the valve would only allow a shower
Review 120:The breakfast was good, the bed was fairly comfortable and the staff were friendly
Review 121:On arrival I was advised the hotel was full even though I had booking confirmation. The staff did manage to sort the issue out.
Review 122:Ample parking on-site. Clean rooms, good breakfast choices.
Review 123:booking form said room had wi-if. It did not Narrow corridors, numbering of rooms very odd. Took about 10mins for hot water for a shower to come through
Review 124:Comfortable bed Good location Nice size car park
Review 125:I didn't like the plastic sheet under the bed-sheet. I didn't like the heat in the bedroom.
Review 126:I had a bad fall in town, and was issued with crutches, so I could not climb their stairs. They refunded me the charge for the third night of my stay.
Review 127:The reseptionist was sulking because we had booked through booking.com, not very friendly, it smelled terrible in the two rooms we got, there is mold there, I would not recommend this place to my worst enemy.
Review 128:I was in a double room, with very limited space to actually move around, I couldn't walk round the bed. The furniture looked as though it had been bought from a second hand shop and looked shabby. I had no phone in my room, although according to there leaflet in the rooms, every room has one, and you couldn't make outside calls with them anyway, which was an inconvenience. The one girl that seemed too do everything didn't interact with the customers hardly at all
