Reviews for Hubert House

Review 1:Helpful staff. We were leaving early in the morning, before breakfast, and we were offered cereals, fruit, yoghurt and more in the room so we could eat before leaving. Really good service ! Comfortable room, 2 minutes from ferry.

Review 2:Something not so important, the kettle had a funny smell, but maybe because was a bit old.

Review 3:Lovely place, the room was decorated and kept in a perfect way, very warm and with all you can need. The breakfast had a nice buffet and beverages were served by the same polite gentleman that showed us the room at the arriving, good choice of international food with the possibility to ask anything else (I am lactose intolerant and as I told him he provided me a nice substitution for the milk).

Review 4:Very friendly and accommodating. Excellent location - walk to castle, train station, ferry terminal. Clean, cosy room with classic English decor. Good breakfast.

Review 5:Room was very small but certainly comfortable. However, a room is only for sleeping so this does not detract from the experience.

Review 6:Brekky included. Freindly staff. Car parking. Close to the main part of town.

Review 7:Man answering door was less than hospitable to an old lady who had just lugged her suitcase from bus terminal in the rain - and then up the 2 levels of stairs to entrance. I felt like I had disturbed him and did not feel welcome despite I was the one paying to be here!! Room was very, very small- bathroom especially!!!...not sure it would accommodate a stout person. Room musty smelling: not fresh at all.

Review 8:Hot chocolate packet available. ...made myself a hot drink on arrival.

Review 9:Steep narrow stairs but I guess that's part of the charm of a Georgian terrace.

Review 10:Excellent location with off street parking next to a pub with great food. Friendly host. Clean comfortable room. Nice breakfast.

Review 11:The person who you meet on checkin who i am assuming is the owner, clearly didn't want to be doing this particular job and made you feel like you were intruding. No information was volunteered

Review 12:Lovely old building and cute decor in room with very comfy bed and pillows

Review 13:The only good things were the location and that the room was clean. The windows have single glasing and are thus very loud from the street traffic. The man we saw on arrival and at breakfast was very arogant and unpleasant. Everything about the hotel and him was pretentious without having any basis in reality. Decoration is a matter of taste - it was definitely not ours. All in all: "wanna-be classy" without the class.

Review 14:Simply top notch Stairs were a hike but quintessentially cute and a reflection of the region Equally unique was the host Peter, an affable individual with loads of personality Cannot rate this with any higher accolade Will definitely return

Review 15:As the first timer staying in a guest house, I arrived earlier than thecheck-in time, which I took it for granted as an ok thing for all otherkinds of hotel and hostel. So I rang the bell many times, as I have noknowledge why I needed to wait for so long at the gate. I am sorry if mymany-time ring has irritated the host. In fact, I think I did. And thehost was really mad at me with his British humor and I was scared tospeak another word, feeling like in elementary school in front of astrict teacher. That is the whole story. So I behaved myself during mywhole stay and I did not dare to be late for the next day'sbreakfast.

Review 16:Room is good

Review 17:We were suppose to have a balcony/patio and ipod dock and we didn't. We were on the top floor with lots of little stairs to manoeuvre. Also was not told that there would be a surcharge for using my credit card.

Review 18:good location and big room

Review 19:The view from my room was spectacular. I'm also a huge fan of their eco-friendly policy and their conscious efforts to be sustainable. The staff were very cordial and accommodating, even when I wasn't necessarily the most coherent of guests.

Review 20:I had to beg the host to carry my suitcase to the top floor (i`m a girl, who`s travelling alone)... not very nice, but he did it :-D ! Thanks for that ! And sorry, but i couldn`t really understand the `humour` of my host... a little bit weird ;-)

Review 21:I had a single bedroom at the top floor. It was small with a small bathroom, but very clean. A bit noisy at night and some strange exhaust ducts near the window... so i had to close it. Breakfast was ok, muesli, fruits and toast with jam, in a nice and clean room. For freshly cooked breakfast you have to pay more. Really good starting point for visiting Dover Castle (loved it!) and the White Cliffs! Parking in front of the house - perfect.

Review 22:We arrived early at 1300 due to some connection issues. Owner greeted my wife very gruffly and suggested we were imposing by being there at such a inapproproate time.. We agreed to leave and return after 1630 but after discussion were allowed to leave our bags, Owner stated that since we were only staying a single night, we would have to take the room on 3rd floor. There is no elevator and a winding staircase with several doors. We had to ferry our over-night needs from our bags left on first floor. My wife was turned off by the reception.

Review 23:The room was nice enough.

Review 24:Location was perfect. Close to the castle and the town centre. A five minute from the station and the ferry terminal. Room was really big and spotless.

Review 25:Really very small room, hardly any space for anything. Even smaller bath. Very steep and narrow stairway.

Review 26:Convenient location close to the port and town centre, very friendly host. Car park is available but is very small. The room was clean and quiet.

Review 27:At first I found the owner's manner seemingly off putting but I gradually warmed to him and he was very attentive at breakfast.

Review 28:The stay represented good value for money. Good attention to detail - the little things. The quality of the soap, the matching decoration of the room with the chair cover, curtains and bedspread.

Review 29:Late check-in (4:00 pm) Owner was curt at check in and breakfast. We arrived at 3:15 after being told by the cleaning lady, to come back anytime after 3:00.

Review 30:Room was excellent Location was excellent Breakfast was good

Review 31:Great location to Dover Castle and a short walk to the city centre. Room was large with a balcony and a lovely outlook. A short taxi ride to the cruise terminal. The owner is very obliging. Would be happy to stay there again.

Review 32:Great welcome and professional standard. What a gem of a place and peter runs a tight ship. Very high standard indeed. Will stay again in a heart beat

Review 33:You need to be aware of the stairs starting at the entrance and then within the facility, which are somewhat narrow.

Review 34:The host was very gracious in allowing us to store our luggage in the front hallway prior to check-in and then allowed us to leave it in the room until it was time for us to leave, which was later then normal check-out. He even carrier our bags downstairs, which in our opinion went above and beyond. We tend to over pack.

Review 35:The Georgian suit does not have a patio or balcony (the latter is just a50 cm deep shelf for placing flowers, you can not step out on it). Idon't know to what the 'patio' refers to, but anyhow, exceptfor the odd bed, this is just a very ordinary b&b room, withoutpossibilities to step outside directly from the room. We chose thisplace for one night largely to have some place to sit outside in theevening and could not do that. Expensive.

Review 36:Close to both the cliffs and the beautiful city.

Review 37:The room was beautifully made up in 'Ole English'decor...only wish we had snapped a couple pics before propietor starting turning it down for the night....

Review 38:*Don't be scared off by Peter, luckily the people checking out as wearrived gave us a heads up. He is very to the point, efficient, and verylikable once you give him a chance. *No early check-in so have a plan.*Water pressure is very weak in the shower, no shampoo orconditioner...just a body wash.

Review 39:*Location is perfect. *The Georgian Suite was fabulous, loved it, veryclean and super comfortable. *Lovely breakfast, made to order for a costbut not necessary. *Peter gave us lots of evening eating ideas. *We hada ton of luggage...Peter had it all neatly placed in the room when wereturned from the castle.

Review 40:Being told I would be charged extra for late book in. On the day I travelled operation stack was in place, I got lost on the way and scraped my cat on the hotel wall because one car had taken up the middle space leaving no room for anyone else.I found the welcome unfriendly.

Review 41:As a solo traveler for the first time, I was nervous about staying alone. But the staff was so friendly and the location was very central to the castle and cliffs! Beautifully well kept B&B

Review 42:The only drawback are the stairs. We removed what we needed from our suitcases for a one night stay, and left everything else in the owners quarters on the ground floor. This was inconvenient, but no big deal.

Review 43:We had a beautiful room overlooking a small park. Very bright, comfortable and clean. Dover Castle in a relatively easy uphill walk from the premises.

Review 44:Didn't have one. This is a coment, not as strong as a criticism. A small discount could be offered for guests who have to catch an early boat and therefore miss breakfast.

Review 45:The cost was appropriate

Review 46:The shower was weird and not functioning properly. Way too many stairs to go up to the room and down more to the breakfast. The owner/manager was not exactly welcoming. Seemed errogant and condescending.

Review 47:The room was spacious and comfortable.

Review 48:We liked the free car park adjacent to the Hubert House, this allowed us walk to the many nearby places of interest. The Guest House Breakfast was very good and the staff were pleasant and efficient.

Review 49:Not a bad experience, but steep steps up to front door, though owner helped with luggage.

Review 50:Comfortable, though tiny, single room. Perfect for one night, bit cramped for any longer. Characterful hotel, at bottom of the Castle Hill. Well placed for short distance to ferry terminal. Taxi only £3.50, or ten minute walk.

Review 51:Very friendly and courteous proprietor, a spacious room with comfortable beds and an efficient shower. The continental breakfast was excellent with home made fresh croissants every morning. and fantastic coffee!

Review 52:The hotel a victorian building which has lost none of its charms. The room we had was large and spotless. the facilities were good. The room had a shower room which was small but again spotless. You can upgrade and having had a quick peek at those rooms I can recommend them. They are beautiful! We were catching the early ferry and so were to early for breakfast however the manager put us a continental breakfast togerther in our room whichwas very thoughtful. There are good tea making facilites in each room and unlike the big hotel firms who restrict your tea, coffee and milk this hotel don't. We shall stay here again. An easy walk into the town. Parking is available here. I would recommend this hotel.

Review 53:Although states non smoking repeatedly in the room, it is sadly quite clear it has been smoked in. Very smoky smell:-(. That was the only negative.

Review 54:Hubert house is where many of the swimmers of the Dover strait stay. And location proximity to castle gteat

Review 55:The room was a cupboard with a double bed in it. It had none of the charm that the rest of the house promised.

Review 56:The owner was very nice and the location is great.

Review 57:Beautiful and comfortable room with a view, Peter´s support for our trip to London the next day, the pub around the corner (see the Channel swimmers´ signatures)

Review 58:A classic older style hotel with a beautiful Georgian style room was delightful. Peter, our host, is engaging and very knowledgeable. ( ask him about Channel swimming). There is nothing out of place and the breakfast is comprehensive. The location is central and quiet with off street parking.

Review 59:This guesthouse is a lovely, characterful building close to the White Cliffs and Dover Castle. We arrived 3 hours early for checkin but the lovely host Carmen allowed us to check in, she also made breakfast for us an hour earlier than usual as we had to catch the ferry. Our room was spacious with lovely views, spotlessly clean and great wifi. The only negative was that the bed was uncomfortable. Great value for money.

Review 60:Nothing

Review 61:Awesome location; we walked everywhere from here (Dover Castle, Cliffs, Ferry to Calais, train station, wharf, etc. The breakfast was good for continental, not too many choices. The room was very comfortable, clean, quiet and reasonably priced. The inn keeper was pleasant and very accommodating.

Review 62:very comfortable accommation with free parking ,free wifi and great history of Cross Channel Swimmers. Breakfast excellent and location ideal for ferry port

Review 63:Wifi connection in room was difficult - could only connect in corridor

Review 64:Great value for money, close to the port, friendly and helpful staff, good breakfast

Review 65:It was warm, comfy, clean, friendly, close to the sea front and pubs. Breakfast was superb and gave us loads of strengths for the long trip through Europe. We have already booked our next stay.

Review 66:Minor thing of breakfast not starting until 0730hrs so makes catching an early morning ferry a bit tight.

Review 67:The interior decor, facilities in the room, pet friendly, the pub next door offering food and the proximity to the ferry.

Review 68:All the staff was lovely and helpful. They kept my backpack before check in so I didn't have to carry it all day. The ensuite room was enormous, super clean and tidy. It even had a new Tv which, at the end of all the sightseeing, served us quite well. The continental breakfast was so good and plenty to choose from. It's perfectly located 5 min walk from Dover castle and town centre so it's quite easy to reach the white cliffs and the sea front.

Review 69:Receptionist can be a bit patronising and scary at times.

Review 70:Breakfast was excellent. Bed super comfortable. Great location. Super clean rooms, toilets and common areas. Parking space. Real coffee at breakfast.

Review 71:Hard beds

Review 72:Big room, great central location to day trip from, wonderful English pub next door to relax in after day trips. Dover Castle was very interesting with lots of history Roman to WW2...My kids loved the stay much more vs the luxury London hotel.

Review 73:Our room, the Georgian suite, was delightful. A luxurious and comfortable four poster bed. A lovely en-suite bathroom, with a deep bath, great for relaxing in after a cold and rainy day walking on the cliffs. Overall, a lovely guest house with interesting historical photographs, paintings and art works about Dover covering the corridor walls. A tasty breakfast cooked to request. Also the fact that they catered for dairy and wheat intolerance was great =)

Review 74:My parents had booked a room for me and my fiancee before we travelled to Paris. The staff were friendly and made us feel welcomed and the room was amazing and comfortable. It was an overall excellent experience :) and we'd definitely be travelling back to Dover and staying in the same hotel:)

Review 75:Nothing!

Review 76:The interior decor, very comfortable room, that we could take our dog, on site parking, very good continental breakfast, friendly welcome, very hospitable housekeeper, excellent location for the ferry terminal. The oldest pub in Dover next door 'The White Horse'. The Channel swimming history of the owner Hubert.

Review 77:I like a powerful shower and the shower wasn't quite doing it for me. Other than that it was a fantastic place to stay.

Review 78:Very nice little hotel. Room was large and immaculate. Very comfy bed. Breakfast the next morning was nice.

Review 79:We were on the top floor so the stairs were a bit of a challenge with luggage

Review 80:Good sized bedroom, very well fitted out and comfortable. Excellent breakfast and well located for Ferry Port and Dover Castle. Parking on site

Review 81:It is a very lovely b&b very much enjoyed our stay! They only grumble would be the size of the duvet, I'm pretty short, but the duvet was even shorter, did not cover the feet at all. Otherwise, great.

Review 82:Good location close to the ferry terminal. Spotlessly clean room and friendly owner, will certainly stay again. Adjacent to the Hubert is the White Horse, an interesting pub, serving food.

Review 83:Perhaps having the cooked breakfast included in the overall price, although the inclusive continental breakfast was first rate and the coffee was excellent.

Review 84:Excellent location - within walking distance of the town and station. Very well situated for the castle and the port. Beds were very comfortable - best hotel-night's sleep I have had in a while.

Review 85:Windows to be closed during the night as the noise from the harbour can be heard.

Review 86:Chats with our host at breakfast time; great service for breakfast; comfortable beds, cosy interiors; close to ferry, white cliffs & lighthouse, close to make a daytrip to Canterburry. Would come again.

Review 87:The owner stayed 10 minutes with us in the bedroom when we arrived just to take away the decorative cushions from the bed and to arrange the room. It was a bit embarassing.

Review 88:The georgian suite is beautiful and incredibly comfortable. The furnishings were really refined and the bathroom looked new and shining.

Review 89:1) Very rude, inhumane, and cold behaviour form the owner as if we were staying for free 2) The TV was inside the cupboard in one corner of the room 3) The suite was too heavily furnitured - felt like sleeping in a museum 4) The breakfast option was too scarce - just had nuts and toast as a vegetarian 5) If you want to go - you need to live, breathe and behave in the manner the owner wants you to - you get that kind of feeling 6) Dont go if you want to spend your holiday and want to have a good, happy mood 7) Its better to stay at the beach front hotels - there are plenty of them including Premier Inn - as you don't get anything special staying here 8) There are so many instructions to follow - you might need to take notes and revise them every morning to stay for a couple of nights.

Review 90:Still thinking .....

Review 91:I got the impression that the owner had lost interest in greeting his guests and was rather bored with the whole thing.

Review 92:Location and very clean, spacious room.

Review 93:Nothing.

Review 94:I just loved the B&B in general. Close to the shopping centre and Dover Castle, room was very roomy and comfortable. Breakfast was very nice, the owner was very helpful on where to go. Free car parking.

Review 95:Lovely English B&B. Clean comfortable and host was lovely with typical warm English humour.. Room was really lovely and had a great nights sleep. Breakfast was very good too. Would love to have spent more time there as Dover is a real pretty town.

Review 96:Breakfast was lovely. I got a lot of advice on places to visit and how to get there. My room was quite small but as it was just me traveling it was perfect. Good central location within walking distance of the castle, cliffs and western heights. I would definitely stay here again.

Review 97:The onsuite facility's in our room could have been a little bit larger, taking into account the size room, the wifi was not availible in the top room, the signal was non exsitant

Review 98:The bedrooms were big and the beds were very comfortable, the full English breakfast was very reasonable priced if you wished to upgrade from the buffet one, it felt very homely, and mine host was very nice and chearful.

Review 99:Due to overnight roadworks, traffic was diverted in front of the hotel which meant lorries on their way to the ferry terminal.

Review 100:Pub next door was excellent - also offered food. Continental or buffet breakfast available. Excellent tea/coffee facilities also with own fridge. Delightful interior designing. Dogs allowed for a surcharge. Additional services offered such as bike storage, walking boot cleaning. Peter, the proprietor and channel swimmer, was an attentive host. Excellent location for both the ferry terminal and castle, also in to town for numerous evening eateries.

Review 101:Nothing really, maybe other guests would prefer a cooked breakfast this would have been extra cost but not a problem for us as the cold buffet very good

Review 102:Hubert House Georgian Suite lovely a touch of luxury exceptionally clean filter coffee and yummy biscuits, parking and a short walk to the Castle and town. option of a quilt or blanket on the four poster bed and as we arrived in beautiful September sunshine the option of a blanket made for a more comfortable night sleep

Review 103:There was nothing not to like.

Review 104:Perfect location to visit Dover Castle. Great accommodation, good facilities, friendly host and excellent value for money. Would certainly use again in that area.

Review 105:Hubert House was very close to the ferry terminal - which was why I was in Dover, but also very near to the town centre. Facilities were clean and comfortable.

Review 106:The rudeness of one member of staff. The steps and stairs. the noise of the seagulls ,traffic and clientelle of the adjacent pub.

Review 107:The fact that by mistake I booked a single room but both my wife and I were accommodated. The location for the Ferry to France. Cleanliness.

Review 108:Large room that was well decorated the hotel has a long association with channel swims continental breakfast is more than sufficient with cooked available at a very small cosy

Review 109:Very poor selection of toiletries just shampoo n shower gel. No hand soap or conditioner or bath foam or body lotion and I expect this if paying £100 for one night. Requested vegetarian breakfast options when booking in the morning ... Told no veggie option available at all on arrival. Opted to forego this n just have buffet ... Cereal n parties n fruit. Overslept n woken by staff saying owner was waiting in kitchen to give us breakfast so rushed down n then met with rudeness n aggression n told we were too late. So why wake us? Unhelpful, unprofessional and I will question the gold award they plug on their ads. Save your money and go somewhere your business is welcomed.

Review 110:Bed was very comfortable in Georgian room.

Review 111:All guests should feel welcome and comfortable regardless of nationality etc. I hope they work on this. Furthermore, I was unable to take a shower without banging my elbows on the sides. Persons of large girth will definitely struggle in the shower. The car park is tight to get in and out and is unsuitable for cars with low suspension as there is small hump on the right hand side (you wont see it in the dark).

Review 112:Well situated and not far from the Ferry Terminal. Continental Breakfast was good.

Review 113:Staff were welcoming, friendly and helpful. The room was spacious, very comfortable and spotless. The buffet breakfast had a good variety and there was plenty of it. Convenient parking and access to ports.

Review 114:We have stayed here several times. The rooms are nice, the owner is very friendly and helpful. We will certainly stay here again on our next holiday in UK.

Review 115:Dirty . £100 per night Not including a cooked breakfast. Discusting

Review 116:Nothing shower head broken and she was aware of it and just laughed in our face . Tv in a cub board which you couldn't see in bed . Top bed covers need a good wash just tacky and dirty not what it looks like in the advert . Felt swindled out of money

Review 117:It's all a bit tight ! Persons of, er, large girth may struggle in the bathroom. Please demolish the little wall round the car park. Dover is very shabby and down-at-heel - what an introduction for our foreign visitors !

Review 118:My fifth stay at this delightful little guest house. Excellent location, a few minute's drive from the ferry terminal, a short walk to the town centre, and next door to the best pub in Dover, which does superb food. Very clean and nicely decorated, and fantastic value for money. Lovely breakfast. Car park. Highly recommended.

Review 119:The steps up to the front door are steep, but then, it seems all of Dover is up hill!

Review 120:very close in to town. Probably the most beautiful and spacious room outside the castle we stayed in last year! Peter was wonderful and took such good care of everything for us. He makes an excellent full English breakfast, on request. (continental breakfast is inluded with room.)
