Reviews for The Britannia Inn
Review 1:Worn out mattresses in our room. Use of 'frozen' chips and burgers not acceptable these days especially at the price paid.
Review 2:Location, car parking, bus stop nearby.
Review 3:The pub is very cosy and characterful unfortunately the bar is tiny and we were unable to squeeze in for a drink -however we did take drinks up to our room
Review 4:Very dog friendly
Review 5:This is the first time we have stayed at the Britannia but it will definitely not be the last. With the sheep freely roaming around the village and the ambiance of the pub, this is truly a delightful place. The staff are attentive but not intrusive, food is plentiful and very good, just what you need after a days walking. Bedrooms are nicely decorated and well equipped; we had a lovely comfortable bed and woke refreshed. After a good breakfast we were ready to start another day exploring this beautiful location. I cannot recommend the Britannia or the location highly enough and if you get a chance please check it out - you will not be disappointed.
Review 6:We have stayed many times at the Britannia and it has always been a good experience. However, this time the room we stayed in, (Room 4), was very run down. There is one very small window, which is fine due to the building being old, but the flowers in the boxes on the windowsill stopped any light at all entering the room, making it dismal. For £99 per night, I would have expected at least one small bar of soap in the bathroom. You get this even at a Premier Inn, which is half the price to stay. The food in the restaurant was good, but not exceptional for the price. The staff behind the bar were not very friendly. I don't think we'll be coming back. I have stayed at better B&B's than this.
Review 7:The location of the hotel.
Review 8:Flakey wi-fi set up and not entirely happy having to use facebook to log-in and then find I've published to any and all where I'm staying. Not a problem, but seems presumptious at least. They might want to reconsider that aspect...
Review 9:Location, ambiance, staff, food
Review 10:The evening meals were overpriced and overcooked and the choice was not great. The chef had trouble with poached eggs, and the rest of the breakfast was convenience food from tins, packets and jars, although the cooked breakfast was average.
Review 11:Location. Start of many walks in the middle of the Lake District, from easy to difficult
Review 12:Very conjustet little hotel on top of a pub. Noisy. Old. Not many options in veg food, Remote location... far from shops and restaurants
Review 13:Once you are locked inside your room there's comfort with some pub noise... nature views were good from windows.
Review 14:It was a pity it was a very wet weekend. However we've stayed there lots over the years and it's still one of our favourite places to stay in the lakes. We didn't eat there apart from a lovely breakfast. Staff couldn't be more helpful. Thanks to the young man who booked our taxi and served us breakfast. I really like the way they are so welcoming to dogs. Made me wish I'd had one
Review 15:Bed very uncomfortable springs coming through bed requires replacing did not sleep well television Not working did report it but not repaired.
Review 16:Food and drink very good and good Location.
Review 17:I didn't like the Cumberland sausages - they were too big and not cooked well enough for me. Two smaller ones would be better. Also, on very warm but wet days dry seats under open umbrellas would be great and would alleviate the congestion inside.
Review 18:Location and friendly helpful staff
Review 19:Dining outside on a wet day, everyone heads inside so tables can be hard to find on busy day. But, it's the Lake District, no one can do anything about Lake District weather.
Review 20:Excellent as always, I've stayed here 7 times over the last 20 years, it just gets better. Love the location, food is good, good choice of beers.
Review 21:Room smelt a bit damp but was clear and we'll presented.
Review 22:Nice place over all but just not my ideal pub accommodation. Although the beer was good there's not really a bar type room to sit in until the food has finished. On a sunny night it would be lovely sat outside.
Review 23:Although we did not use the restaurant, I agree with other reviewers that the 10% surcharge to eat in the restaurant seems unnecessary, especially as the bar was more convivial.
Review 24:Comfortable room with lovely views, and ability to get a nice beer and meal just downstairs.
Review 25:Bed was a little too firm for our liking, but this is just a personal preference
Review 26:Super friendly staff, room was immaculate and cosy, and very welcoming.
Review 27:It was very difficult to find a place to sit to have a pre - dinner drink. 8 of us had an 8pm dinner, since the two sittings started early at 6.30pm. The lounge area for residents was blocked off with a dining table and it was too cold to sit outside. The bar area was full. Our bedroom had an extremely small shower. Quite expensive compared with other Inns of similar type.
Review 28:The staff were very helpful but there did not seem to be any specific management.
Review 29:Nil.
Review 30:Location excellent, plenty of walks to suit all abilities. Good food, good beer, comfortable room peaceful evenings when all the day trippers have gone. Retains old world charm, very enjoyable stay.
Review 31:Bar meals little pricey even for central Lakes, but quality good
Review 32:Pub ambience. High quality walking at all levels.Weather was superb.Staff all v good and friendly
Review 33:The noisy neighbour, who must have come in and out of his room, slamming the door at least 7 times in half an hour, but that's the luck of the draw ! Also the constant humming from what I assume was an extractor fan or something, outside.
Review 34:The room and bathroom. The beds were very comfortable. The bars were proper old pub, rather than a cold wine bar type place. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. The evening meal was first class,as was the breakfast.
Review 35:Nothing not to like really. Bed too firm for me but that is just my opinion.
Review 36:Beautiful location. Cosy and welcoming inn. Staff friendly and food excellent. Definitely stay again.
Review 37:My only comment would be that there was a generator or air con unit outside our room that hummed all night, as a light sleeper it disturbed me. My partner was not troubled by the noise.
Review 38:The place and our room was lovely. The staff made us feel welcome, the food and service was very good.
Review 39:Decor all rather dated.get rid of the red flowery carpet and stark white walls. It was all ok but price wise bit toppy for what it was
Review 40:All lovely, friendly staff. Good beer.beautiful location.
Review 41:The place was overcrowded especially in the evening . The dining room was too packed so we went to a nearby pub for our evening meal.
Review 42:Excellent location - we did not use the car for our stay because of the good walks from the door.
Review 43:The Pub could do with a bit of upgrading without losing its atmosphere. Bed a bit hard.
Review 44:Location, friendliness of staff, quality of food and good variety of real ales in the bar
Review 45:Nothing
Review 46:The staff, accommodation, and food excellent and the inn is perfectly situated for gentle or strenuous walking. Weather was perfect too during our stay.
Review 47:Whenever we come to the Lakes we always visit Elterwater and the Britannia Inn, but we have never stayed until now. We stayed 2 x nights Bank holiday Monday 25.08.4 and Tuesday 26.08.14. Couldn't fault a thing. Lovely staff, especially the irish barman! Even the weather was excellent.
Review 48:the whole inn is bursting with history and we loved the old rooms, the tiny bar and the beautiful flower boxes outside all the windows. the staff were extremely friendly, our room was cleaned each day and the wonderful Lake District Farrer tea replenished! Breakfast was great and the night we ate in, the food delicious. although we had a room at the front just above the bar, we were amazed at how quiet it was after around 9.30pm.
Review 49:Understandably, as we had a dog, we had to have breakfast in the hallway; a little chilly first thing in the morning. Maybe it could be served in the bar room which is less draughty?
Review 50:The whole ambiance of the place, from the witty, helpful and pleasantness of the staff to the stunning setting. The food is excellent.
Review 51:Bed mattress was pretty hard so not the best nights sleep, but others might find okay.
